A Little Memory
(Captain) and Rackam stop by a small kingdom where they meet Laguna, a warrior that loves to hear stories. As a rule, Laguna challenges (Captain) to a duel, but ultimately loses. They all go for a drink, and Laguna explains her love of milk. When (Captain) and Rackam decide to return to the ship, they notice Laguna wants to come with them, and so they invite her to join the crew.
(Captain) and Rackam are visiting a small country. They stop by a local tavern and have a drink.
Laguna: Cheers.
Rackam: Cheers!
Rackam: Man, this ale is really something!
Laguna: Yes, everyone who comes here takes a liking to the beverages.
Laguna: Hee hee... And I'm glad to see you're no exception!
Rackam: Hey, what are you gonna get, (Captain)?
(Captain) smiles back at Rackam and says juice would be nice.
Laguna: All the drinks here are great! Even the milk and juice!
Rackam: Is that why you get the milk?
Laguna: Yeah, that's right. Anything else would put me to sleep.
Laguna: So I always drink milk! I love the stuff, so don't worry about ordering anything else for me.
Rackam: Isn't she just adorable, (Captain)?
Laguna: It might just be my opinion, but you shouldn't tease people, ya know...
Laguna: Anyways, you guys have been to a bunch of places, right? Why don't you tell me about your travels?
Rackam: Well, all right. Let's tell her about that time we went to the Mist-Shrouded Isle!
And so, Rackam begins to tell Laguna about their exciting adventure.
Laguna listens to Rackam with great interest, reminding (Captain) of the time they first met.
On the way back from one of their missions, (Captain) and Rackam stop by a small kingdom to take in the sights and relax.
Tough Guy 1: Ahh!
Just as the two of them make their way into town, a man goes hurling past them.
Rackam: Hey! What the heck was that?
Laguna: It's just my opinion, but... you probably shouldn't mess with people if you don't know their strength. Now you're gonna pay.
Tough Girl: Ah! I'm sorry! Please don't hurt me!
Tough Guy 2: We get it! We'll never bother you again!
Dozens of others rush by, apologizing on their way out of town.
Laguna: Humph.
Villager: Thank you, Laguna!
Awestruck Child: Wow! That was so cool! Thanks for saving the day again, Laguna!
Laguna: Haha. No need to thank me. I'm just glad you're all okay.
Rackam: I get it now. Those guys were tryin' to rob this place. That girl must have stopped them.
Laguna: Hm? Who are you two?
Rackam: Oh, uh, we're not here to make trouble! We were just passing through and wanted to relax for a bit.
Laguna: So just some regular guests, then. Please, make yourselves at home.
Laguna curtsies to them with a kind smile on her face.
Her warm welcome puts Rackam at ease, but (Captain) won't be swayed so easily. Laguna is still holding her weapon, after all.
Laguna: Well, then. It's quiz time, adventurers. Which one of you is stronger?
Seeing Laguna in attack position, Rackam quickly raises his hands in surrender.
Rackam: Hey, hold on a second! Aren't you supposed to be welcoming us? We're not bandits or anything!
Laguna: Yeah. I guess you aren't. At least, you don't seem like it. That said, I would appreciate your cooperation.
Laguna: I've got one rule and one rule only, and it's never been broken since I became a guardian here.
Laguna: Anyone that comes here has to face me. And since you're in a group, I want the strongest among you.
Rackam: Huh? What kind of rule is tha—
Laguna: This is just my opinion, but... any adventurer worth anything has been to all kinds of places and seen all kinds of things.
Laguna: That goes for the two of you as well, doesn't it? I love stories about that kind of stuff so—
Rackam: I mean, sure, we've been to a few places, but...
Rackam: Hmm... Can we settle this without fighting? If you want a story, I'll tell you a story.
Laguna: You can learn a lot by crossing swords, too. And besides, I love a good fight.
Laguna smiles without the slightest hint of malice or hostility.
Rackam: Geez. She comes across as terrifying, but how can you say no to a pretty smile like that?
(Captain) nods in agreement, weapon at the ready.
Laguna: You know, I really appreciate you accepting my request. Okay, let's do this.
The battle between the two fighters ends as (Captain) knocks Laguna to the ground.
Laguna: I lost... I haven't lost in a long time. You're starting to remind me of him!
Rackam: ...Him?
Laguna: Oh, uh, never mind. Hey, you should let me buy you a drink! I know a good place down the street.
And with that, Laguna takes (Captain) and Rackam to her favorite spot.
Sitting in her element, Laguna asks (Captain) and Rackam all about their adventures.
Just as (Captain) recalls their chance encounter with Laguna, Rackam's story comes to a close.
Rackam: That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! And man, it was weird.
Laguna: Wow, I've never heard of a place like that. You guys sure have been around!
Laguna is basking in the afterglow of Rackam's story when (Captain) notices the sun beginning to set.
Rackam: Dang! Is it that late already? Ah well. We'd better head back.
Laguna: Aw, are you leaving already?
Rackam: Yeah. Our friends are waiting for us.
- We should hurry.
- We can tell you the rest onboard.
Choose: We should hurry.(Captain) offers an outstretched hand to Laguna as they say this.
Laguna: What? You want me to come with you?
Laguna: ...Well, okay. Let's go, then.
Choose: We can tell you the rest onboard.Rackam: Hold on a second. Are you saying you want her in our crew?
(Captain) nods.
Laguna: I mean... As long as you're okay with it, I really wanna tag along.
Continue 1Rackam: What! Are you serious?
Laguna: Hey, what's that supposed to mean? Were you just messing with me? That's so mean...
Rackam: We weren't messing with you. We're just a little... concerned. You're a soldier, aren't you? You can't just up and leave like that!
Laguna: I won't be gone forever. I'll be taking a little break, that's all. It'll be fine!
Laguna: Besides, I've been saying for years that I want to go on an adventure.
Laguna: It might just be my opinion, but... you shouldn't waste a good opportunity. Don't you agree?
Rackam: I see your point. You're totally right.
Laguna: So, what do you say, (Captain)? Can I go with you guys?
- Welcome aboard! Let's get some milk!
- Nah, I changed my mind.
Choose: Welcome aboard! Let's get some milk!Rackam: Haha! Sounds good to me! Let's get the best milk money can buy!
Laguna: Don't make fun of me! You're gonna make me mad. ...I will take some milk, though.
Choose: Nah, I changed my mind.Laguna: Oh, I see what's going on here... That's pretty mean, y'know. You're gonna make me cry...
Seeing her reaction, (Captain) panics and tells her it was just a joke.
Laguna: What? Really?
Rackam: Haha! You really had her goin' there for a second, (Captain)!
Laguna: Why would you joke about that?
Rackam: Aw, come on. That's just (Captain)'s way of having fun!
Laguna: Oh? Haha... Don't tease me like that...
Continue 2Laguna: In any case, I'd be grateful if you took me along.
Laguna: I look forward to traveling with you, (Captain). You too, Rackam.
Laguna gives a nod and a wink to (Captain), who gladly accepts her onboard.
Thus concludes the tale of how Laguna, the curious warrior, joined the crew.
Potentially Invincible
One day, (Captain) and crew see Laguna feeling down. Her room is a mess with souvenirs, but she can't bring herself to throw any away. To help her get things in order, Lyria suggests they go into town to buy some shelves.
One day, (Captain) and company see Laguna feeling down. Nearby, Rackam looks guilty for something he said.
Concerned, the crew approaches the two of them to help.
Vyrn: What's wrong? Were you arguing?
Rackam: No, it's not that. I know Laguna doesn't like people peering into her room, but...
Lyria: Why, what's wrong with her room?
Laguna: Umm...
The group takes a peek into Laguna's room and are astounded by what they see.
Strange souvenirs fill the room from corner to corner, taking up any and all available space.
Vyrn: Wow...
Laguna: Well, uh... I saw all these things in the places we've visited and I just couldn't help myself.
Rackam: You'd better think about ditching some of it. How are you supposed to live in here?
Laguna: But if I throw anything away, the memories will go with it! There's no way I could bring myself to do that.
Laguna: And don't say things like that! You sound just like... him.
Lyria: She doesn't really have to throw anything away, does she?
Laguna: What do you mean? It sounds like you've got an idea, Lyria.
Lyria: An idea? Well, how about buying some nice big shelves to put it all in?
Vyrn: Hey, yeah! That's a great idea! Let's go find some!
Laguna: Sorry to be a bother. I just can't bring myself to throw any of it away.
Rackam: Heh heh, don't you worry about it! I'm just sorry I couldn't think of a better idea!
Rackam: We'll have to fly through monster-infested skies to get to town, though. Stay sharp!
Nodding, (Captain) prepares the ship for the journey ahead.
Potentially Invincible: Scene 2
The crew arrives at the town and buys some shelves. After shopping, they visit a local restaurant, where the crew asks Laguna about someone she keeps mentioning. It turns out he is Omar's Odyssey, her legendary spear containing countless memories. As the crew prepares to leave, they are stopped at the door by some strange men.
The crew arrives at the town and buys some shelves. After shopping, the crew visits a local restaurant.
Waiter: Welcome! Here are some drinks, on the house!
Rackam: Wow, this place is great! Thank you!
While enjoying their free drinks, the crew decides to ask Laguna about something that's been on their minds.
Rackam: Hey Laguna, who exactly is this guy you keep mentioning?
Laguna: I wasn't trying to keep it from you, but he's... Well, it's kind of a long story.
Laguna pulls out a massive spear and raises it up for everyone to see.
Vyrn: He's... a spear?
Laguna: This isn't any ordinary spear. This is Omar's Odyssey.
Laguna: It's a legendary weapon that's existed for thousands of years, and contains memories from countless battles.
Lyria: It's thousands of years old? That's incredible!
Laguna: When it shares its memories with me, those memories become my memories. Its experiences become my experiences.
Laguna: With the knowledge it provides, I can defeat any enemy in any environment, no matter the odds.
Vyrn: Wait, what? I'm, uh, not sure I understand what you mean.
Laguna: Basically, I can use the memories from this spear to predict, analyze, and counter any enemy I run into.
Laguna: I guess what I'm sayin' is, it can make me unbeatable.
Laguna: On top of that, it has a mind of its own. He talks to me all the time in a gentlemanly voice.
Rackam: Man, that's awesome! Wait, so... why don't you use it?
Laguna: I just don't feel right about it. It would be like cheating or something.
Rackam: That's not exactly the kind of weapon anyone can use, though!
Laguna: Yeah, you're probably right. I'm the only person who can wield the thing.
Rackam: Well then, it's not really cheating, is it? It's just proof of your strength!
Laguna: Maybe you're right. Anyway, don't worry about it. He and I both agree this way is best.
Vyrn: But if you're not gonna take advantage of it, why keep that thing around?
Laguna: Simple. We get along. We both like fightin', and we both like travelin'.
Lyria: Oh, I get it! You and Omar's Odyssey are friends!
Laguna: Hahaha. Yep, you nailed it. We're about as close as friends can be.
Rackam: Friends, huh? Can't complain about that. Well then, ready to head back to the ship?
Just as they stand up to leave, a group of mean-looking guys steps in front of the door.
Mean Guy 1: Heh heh heh. Where do you think you're goin'?
Mean Guy 2: Time to empty your pockets, pals!
Laguna: Heh, these guys don't know what they're up against. Rackam! (Captain)! Let's send 'em running!
Rackam: I guess we're gonna have to do just that. You're goin' down, boys!
Potentially Invincible: Scene 3
Our heroes put up a good fight against the thugs, but their foes have a trick up their sleeves. The waiter had poisoned their drinks, causing them to collapse. Laguna fights back by drawing memories from Omar's Odyssey, and then banishes the attackers. Awakening, the crew returns to the ship with the shelves, but ultimately finds that Laguna's room is not much better off than before.
Mean Guy 1:
Mean Guy 1: Agh... We can't even touch these guys!
Laguna: Well, duh! I hope you've learned your lesso—
Laguna: What the? What's... going... on?
With a puzzled look on her face, Laguna slowly collapses to the ground.
Rackam: Hey! What's... happening?
Vyrn: Wait... It's... happening to me... too?
Lyria: Oh no... (Captain), I can't...
Succumbing to the same fate, the rest of the crew collapses to the ground, unable to move.
Waiter: Whew. It's about time that poison started working.
Rackam: What? Those drinks were... poisoned? You conniving little—
Mean Guy 1: Hahaha! That's right! The waiter was in on it the whole time!
Mean Guy 2: After our little guests fall asleep, we go and take all their stuff!
Mean Guy 1: Heh heh heh! Don't worry, you won't remember a thing. You'll just be taking a little nap! Heh heh...
Laguna: Well, that's reassuring.
Mean Guy 1: Yeah, if we roughed ya up, it'd be a pain in the neck to clean up the pl— Wait, what?
Mean Guy 2: What the—? Hey! You're supposed to be sleepin'!
Laguna: I pulled some memories from this guy. Memories of fighting while enduring poison.
Laguna: Those memories are now my experiences, so now I've got an immunity.
Mean Guy 2: Huh?
Laguna: To put it in tiny words you'll understand, your poison can't hurt me anymore.
As Laguna picks up her spear, a ruthless grin slides across her face.
Laguna: It's just my opinion, but... guys like you don't deserve any mercy. Omar's Odyssey, it's time.
Laguna: Thrash 'em.
Mean Guy 1:
Mean Guy 1: Aaargh!
The screams of the thugs end with the sound of a blade. As the room goes silent, the crew loses consciousness.
Rackam: Ungh...
Rackam: Huh? Hey, are you guys all right?
Lyria: Uh, yeah... I think so.
Laguna: Oh, you're awake.
Laguna: While you were out cold, I had the pleasure of kicking those thugs out of town. And that waiter went with 'em.
Vyrn: Did you do all that by yourself?
Laguna: Nah, I had this guy with me the whole time. All right then, let's go! I wanna get those shelves set up!
Vyrn: Wow, so what you said about Omar's Odyssey was true...
Laguna: Hey, what's that supposed to mean? You didn't believe me? That's not very nice.
Vyrn: Sorry! I'll get you some milk! Just don't hurt me!
Laguna: Fine. Let's get outta here, (Captain).
Laguna begins to walk back toward the ship with a scowl on her face.
Wondering about Laguna's powers, but also needing to get back, (Captain) and company make their way toward the ship.
Laguna: Why can't I get everything to fit in this thing?
Vyrn: Hey! I told you to organize it! You're just stuffing it all in!
Lyria: Hee hee... Laguna sure is a strange one.
Rackam: She can clean up a battlefield, but she can't even clean up her own room.
Laguna: Those things aren't related, you guys...
Lyria: Hee hee... Let's help her clean up her room, everyone!
With a smile, (Captain) steps in to help finally get Laguna's room in order.
Harmonious Resonance
After taking a good long look at Laguna's Omar's Odyssey, Galadar prances off, fully inspired to forge a mighty new weapon. Laguna chases after him when the spear pleads to her for some more time with Galadar.
Laguna appears distressed as she looks at the souvenirs scattered across her room.
Laguna: Sigh...
Vyrn: Geez, keep this up and the new shelves we bought'll fill up in no time!
Laguna: Sorry, but I just can't get myself to throw any of them away...
Lyria: That just goes to show how important your souvenirs are to you. Come on, we'll help you get things in order!
Laguna tidies up her room with (Captain) and company's help.
Lyria: Yikes! What's happening... Eep!
Laguna: Lyria! Are you okay? Here, hold on to me!
The crew draw their weapons in preparation for battle.
Vyrn: There's only one person that can make the ground shake like this... It's gotta be him!
Lyria: Ah! I think you're right, Vyrn!
Galadar: It's just good ol' Galadar here! Ye in there, lassie?
Vyrn: Heheh, I knew it!
Laguna: Haha! You really had us spooked there! I'll open the door now.
Laguna: Hey, Galadar... Can you keep it down next time you knock?
Galadar: Rest yer fears, lassie! I put those hinges in, and I know best how sturdy they are! Gahaha!
Vyrn: You don't get the big picture, do you, big guy?
Galadar: Listen, lassie, I was hopin' ye could help me with a wee somethin'.
Laguna: Hm? And what might that be?
Galadar: Any chance I could sneak a peek at yer Omar's Odyssey?
Laguna: Uhm, I always make sure to take good care of him. I'm pretty sure he doesn't need any repairs...
Galadar: Gahaha! That's not why I'm askin'. All I'm sayin' is it'd be a real belter if I could take a good look at such a legendary weapon.
Lyria: Teehee, Galadar always gets so excited when it comes to weapons.
Vyrn: You know, Galadar just might be able to talk to him.
Laguna: (No way—I seriously doubt that...)
Galadar: Pretty please?
Laguna bursts into laughter at the sight of such a tame, puppy-eyed Galadar.
Laguna: Ahaha, sure thing. I just finished cleaning up my room after all.
Galadar enters the room at Laguna's invitation.
Galadar: By me bearded hammer! I could learn a thing or two from ye about keeping a room clean!
Laguna: A... Ahaha... I guess it just comes naturally to girls.
Vyrn: Hehe! We're the ones that helped tidy it up, you know?
Lyria: Teehee, it's a good thing we put in the time and effort to do it right. Don't you agree, Vyrn, (Captain)?
Laguna: Hmm?
Laguna shares a brief exchange with Omar's Odyssey, after which she lets out a chuckle.
Laguna: He says he can't wait to see what Galadar will do to him.
Galadar: Bwahaha! Omar's Odyssey is on pins and needles, ye say? Well, he and I are gonna have a blast together!
Galadar: Heh heh. To think that those rumors o' ye gabbin' with a legendary weapon were true!
Galadar takes Omar's Odyssey from Laguna and confirms its makeup, firmness, and shape.
Galadar: Oh, this is no ordinary steel, I tell ye. This luster, this texture... I've never seen anythin' like it!
Galadar: Mighty fine spear ye've got here! Light as a feather, and tough to boot!
Galadar: Great breaded Scott! Look at how the tip forms the shape o' a claw! And ye haven't got a single chip on it!
Lyria: Ehehe, I've never seen Galadar so happy.
Laguna: I've always believed that people who can get really engrossed in something tend to be masters of their craft.
Laguna: Anyhow, why we don't talk over some milk?
The crew looks on warmly as Galadar obsesses over Omar's Odyssey.
Galadar: Oh!
Still in a state of rapturous ecstasy, Galadar leans back and bumps into the shelves behind him.
Laguna's souvenirs come tumbling down, making a mess of the room.
Vyrn: Oh boy... Right after we cleaned up the room too!
Lyria: Ah...
Laguna, however, pays no heed to the mess and instead approaches Galadar.
Laguna: What's wrong, Galadar? Did something happen?
Galadar: Haha... It... I mean he just spoke to me!
Laguna: Truly? But how can that be possible?
Galadar: It's not in me blood to lie, lassie.
Galadar trembles with excitement at being able to communicate with Omar's Odyssey.
Laguna: (Heheh, and I thought I was the only one who could even hear him!)
Galadar: Tell me, laddie, what kind o' smith gave birth to ye?
Laguna cannot hide her surprise when Galadar gently pets Omar's Odyssey and resumes talking to it.
Galadar: Gahahahaha! He's quite a stubborn one, if ye ask me!
Laguna: Really? I always thought of him as such a fine gentleman...
Galadar: I tell him I'll turn him into the very definition o' perfection, and—
Vyrn: Wait, that would mean...
Galadar: Believe me when I say I know how good a weapon Omar's Odyssey is. I just thought he'd kick even more booty with some added weight.
Galadar: So I make him an offer, but the bloke actually refuses!
Galadar: Well, I guess that's that. After all I'm not one to force anythin' doon people's throats... or should I say hilts? Gahahaha!
Laguna: Ahaha, so that's what you two were talking about.
With a satisfied grin, Galadar hands Omar's Odyssey back to Laguna.
Galadar: Really appreciate it! Now I want to make a weapon like yers that can gab with its wielder!
Galadar: First step is decidin' the material to use! Oh boy, am I itchin for some forgin'!
Galadar happily prances out of the room with a spirited look on his face.
Vyrn: Well, I'm not really sure what to make of that just now... Galadar sure did look happy though!
Lyria: Yeah! And Omar's Odyssey stood up for himself when it mattered!
Vyrn: Hehe! This is Laguna's partner we're talking about here after all!
Laguna: Hm? What's that supposed to mean?
Lyria: Ahaha... A while back, part of Katalina's sword chipped off.
Lyria: And when she asked Galadar to take a look, it ended up becoming really heavy!
Vyrn: Hahah! I remember that too! Katalina could barely hold it up!
Vyrn: Thankfully though Galadar was able to restore the sword to its former weight, so that turned out okay.
Laguna: That actually happened? Phew, I'm so lucky he turned Galadar down for me.
Laguna: Hahah! You're right! That would have been bad for both of us!
After some pleasant discourse with her spear, Laguna lets out a big sigh.
Laguna: Well, I could really go for some milk right now.
Vyrn: Sounds great! But how about we tidy up the room again before that?
Laguna: Huh?
Eep!
What? But how?
Laguna breaks into a panic when she realizes her souvenirs are strewn all over the floor.
Laguna: But we cleaned up the mess just before... How did this happen?
Vyrn: Wait, you mean you just
noticed?
Laguna: Sigh...
Vyrn: I guess it takes a Laguna not to notice.
Lyria: Teehee. Laguna and Galadar really lose themselves when things get fun!
Laguna: Sorry...
Vyrn: Hey, no worries! We're here to help!
Just as they begin to clean up, Omar's Odyssey speaks to Laguna.
Laguna: I know, right? Ahahah! I'm so glad you're able to speak to someone other than me now! Hm? You want to speak to Galadar right this moment?
Laguna looks apologetically at (Captain) and company.
Laguna: I'd hate to just leave you guys here when you're going out of your way to help me, but...
Vyrn: It's cool, Laguna! We know what's up! Omar's Odyssey gets what Omar's Odyssey wants!
Lyria: Yeah, please don't worry about it! We can clean up some other time!
Laguna: Thanks, everyone...
Laguna's lips curl into a smile as she dashes toward Galadar's room with spear in hand.
(Captain) and company happily watch her scurry out of the souvenir-filled room.
