Background

Ten years ago, Siegfried was recruited into the Royal Knights of Feendrache by King Josef, who personally instructed him on knighthood. Although his dubious origins and rough mannerisms caused conflict with many other knights, Siegfried slowly grew in reputation. Along with Gunther and Hagen, Siegfried was one of the commanders in the Fafnir Suppression Force; however, mid-battle, Hagen initiated his plan to have the other two knights slain in the battle and steal glory for himself. Siegfried sacrificed himself to defeat Fafnir, and his life was only spared by drinking the dragon's blood.

After apprehending Hagen and returning to Feendrache victorious, Siegfried became known as the "Dragonslayer" in honor of his valiant actions and King Josef appointed him as his personal bodyguard. Soon, the Royal Knights of Feendrache was reorganized as the Order of the Black Dragons, with Siegfried as its new captain. Gunther and Kriemhild, Josef's attendant, married and moved to the region of Burgundy.

Over the years, Feendrache grew ever more prosperous with the help of Isabella and the primal beast Sylph, who used Fafnir's blood to create a magical elixir called alma. As Feendrache's fame grew and its military might distinguished itself from surrounding kingdoms, the Order of the Black Dragons attracted the likes of Lancelot and Percival—both who became his co-deputy commanders.

Then a village became inflicted with a mysterious epidemic. The villagers came to the King for aid and Josef sent Siegfried to investigate. There, the knight discovered that alma created a poisonous by-product that was dumped into the river by soldiers of Feendrache. Seeking to inform the King, Siegfried came back to the castle only to be framed for his liege's death by the true culprit of conspiracy. The King told Siegfried how to escape with his dying breath and he escaped into the rainy night. Branded the "Kingslayer," Siegfried became a fugitive and worked behind the scenes so he could one day expose the true villain.

This section contains spoilers. Continue reading at your own discretion.

Time would pass and a certain crew would visit Feendrache when Siegfried unsealed Fafnir to lure the person who framed him. That crew and the knights who had once served their Kingdom next to Siegfried discovered his innocence. They worked together to bring the truth to light and out the conspirators poisoning the Kingdom.

Even though his name was cleared, Siegfried turned down the offer to become the captain of the White Dragon Knights. Taking responsibility for the uproar he caused and for the knights he harmed in the process, Siegfried left to go on a journey. Though he can return to Feendrache any time he wishes, Siegfried continued to search for ways to help his country from afar.

End of spoilers.

Trivia

Etymology

  • Siegfried's name and background are drawn from the protagonist of the Middle High German epic Nibelungenlied, who killed a dragon and bathed in its blood to become nearly invulnerable.
    • His character weapon, Ascalon, is not from the Nibelungenlied but it fits the dragon-slaying theme; in legends of Saint George, Ascalon was the name of the lance used to slay a dragon.
  • His charge attack "Schwarze Faenge", or Schwarze Fänge, means "black fangs".
  • His first skill, "Uwe", is a German masculine name of debated origin.[7]
  • His second skill, "Manigance", is French for "scheme"[8] as well as the name of a French power metal band.

Happy Birthday Cutscenes
# Link Text
1

Happy birthday.
Allow me to join you in celebration of this very special day.

2

Happy birthday.
Time passes, day by day, month by month, and soon an entire year has already moved on.
I was thinking about what to surprise you with and I've come up with the perfect gift for you. Are you ready?
Speechless, are we? Okay, here it is!
(Captain) immediately braces for the worst. Paying no mind, Siegfried begins contorting his body into a bizarre dance.
Old stories claim that it's easier to be possessed by evil spirits on your birthday.
I stumbled across this dance in old literature. It's said to be especially potent at warding off evil.
With this dance, I wish you happiness and good health. Care to join me?

3

Happy birthday to you.
This will be the third year I get to celebrate this day with you, isn't it? Time goes by so quickly.
This year I got you a tongue tingling gift, (Captain). Would you like it?
Siegfried takes out a handful of bright red fruit. They're long and slim with pointy ends.
This is a special seasoning that grows on a certain island. Not only is it extremely spicy, it's said to ward off evil spirits with its spiciness.
Or rather, it's supposed to help boost your immunity so you don't fall ill.
I also got a recipe to go along with the gift. Let's head to the kitchen and cook it up at once!
I'm quite curious to know how spicy it is. Shall we eat it together when it's all done?

4

Happy birthday, (Captain). Time passes oh so quickly.
This is a present from me to you. It's supposed to be a decoration for your room.
Siegfried hands (Captain) a peculiar object that resembles neither an animal nor a fish.
On certain islands, this doll is said to ward off evil spirits. Leave it where all can see.
I have one in my own room. It's unique appearance helps me gaze at peacefully for long periods of time.
If we wish for the safety of the Grandcypher, we can even place one on its nose.
(Captain), if you have a moment, would you like to come with me and do just that?

5

Happy birthday, (Captain). I see you've made even further progress since last year.
To commemorate your growth as a fine skyfarer, I'd like to give you a present.
(Captain) opens the package to find a cloak with strange designs embroidered on it.
I've been told that this cloak has a story behind it and is something given on birthdays.
The embroidered designs are meant to be blessings, in hopes that the wearer's dreams will come true, and also to protect the wearer from harm.
Actually, this cloak seemed so impressive that I bought one for myself as well.
What do you say we wear this together today, (Captain)?

Happy New Year Cutscenes

1

Happy New Year.
A new beginning is upon us. This year I hope to grow even stronger by your side.

2

Today should be spent surrounded by family, or so everyone says.
Humph. Well, I don't really have any family, so it doesn't concern me I guess.
What? What's with that face? Yes, the crew and I are friends, but...
You're right, I suppose. In a way, we're also a family.
Let's be sure to make lots of great memories this year!

3

Is that you, (Captain)? What's the matter? Hm... You've come to wish me a happy New Year?
I see. You brought me some New Year's snacks as well? Mm... Then I gratefully accept.
Don't be shy. Please come inside. You wanted to eat them with me here, no?
Mm... Your heart is just easy to read is all, (Captain).
Food is more delicious when you're sharing it with others. Am I right?
I'm sure the crew has been at your side all day, so I'm touched that you'd go out of your way to come see me.
Now let's not stand and chat! Have a seat while I make some warm tea!

4

Happy New Year.
What now? You're surprised I came to see you just to say that?
Well, you're always going through the trouble of coming to see me, so I thought I'd return the favor.
But I thought it might be a little strange to come empty-handed.
That's why I brought the Lucky Laugh game. You know it?
You're blind-folded and try to build a face from pieces you have. Then everyone laughs with you at the silly face you've made which brings luck.
You seem to know what I'm talking about already.
Heh heh... Want to play?
Let's say that the person who makes the funnier face wins.

5

It seems that people tend to set new goals and make their wishes at the start of a new year.
I tried following everyone else and writing down a resolution. What do you think?
Siegfried holds up a piece of paper with the words "Loyal Knight" on it.
You have quite the expression on your face. This is the title I received from His Highness—there is a special meaning to it.
Feelings are something that change over time. I chose to write this so as to remind myself that I must not forget what I had originally set out to do.
Heh. I'm glad you understand.
Have you set any goals for yourself, (Captain)? Why don't you tell me about them?

Valentine's Day Cutscenes

1

Happy Valentine's Day. Today is the day you give sweet tokens of gratitude to others.
Hm? Only the female crew members are giving gifts today, you say?

2

I kind of messed up last year's Valentine's Day, didn't I, (Captain)?
For this year, I practiced what to say a few days ago. I'm prepared for any present you give me.
So go ahead, (Captain), and give it to me whenever's convenient for you. Hm?
Ah, I see... I'm supposed to be spontaneous, not rehearsed.
Shoot... I failed again! Wait, wait, give me another chance. Just come in from the door and start over. Is that okay, (Captain)?

3

It's Valentine's Day... I need to make sure I don't do anything off-putting to (Captain)...
(Speak of the devil! Now's my chance... I'll watch her from afar while pretending not to notice her...)
...
...
...
Hm? I don't look well? No problem. I'm just perfect.
Hm? Don't tell me... I stirred up worry by pretending not to notice you?
I see... In order to pull off a surprise, acting natural is the key.
Ah... Look what I've done another year in a row!
Greeting, light chat, and eye contact... Good. I've got it.
(Captain), I'm sorry about this once again. But could you please give me another chance? Just one more...

4

Is it Valentine's Day already?
I'll need to take the steps necessary to properly accept (Captain)'s gift this year.
First... Casually say.
"What a surprise to see you here..."
I think...
Then I exchange pleasantries...
"It's cold out. Take care not to get sick."
Yes... That'll do...
Then (Captain) will present the present and I'll kindly respond...
Hm?
(Captain), did you see all that?
This box... Oh, you brought me chocolates? Thank you.
Oh no... All that preparation for nothing...

5

(Ah, there's (Captain). All right, now to act like how I'd practiced earlier...)
Oh, hello, (Captain)! It's pretty cold lately, huh?
Looks like it snowed quite a lot yesterday. While walking down the street, I saw some boys beating the cold and making a snowman.
It looked like they were having trouble putting the head on the body, so I gave them a hand.
By the way, (Captain)... Did you want to talk to me about something?
Is this... chocolate? Thank you, (Captain). I'll take my time to enjoy it later today.
(Phew... Okay, I think I acted pretty natural this year.)

White Day Cutscenes

1

White Day is finally here, it seems.
And I'd like to thank you for all you do.
Let's see... How about a lesson in sword fighting?

2

Do you have a moment, (Captain)? Seeing as it's White Day, I've prepared a small gift for you.
I'm not well versed in such customs, so I hope it's to your liking, (Captain).
I give this not out of duty, but of my own volition. Please accept it.
Why are you hanging your head? Have I erred again?
No? You're... happy? Well, I'm relieved, if that's the case.
After all, this gift for you, (Captain), is heartfelt.
Let's continue exploring the unknown together.

3

(Captain), thank you for the chocolates on Valentine's Day.
The flavor was exquisite... I was surprised to learn that it was homemade.
I want to repay you for your kindness, (Captain). So I brought sweets for you as a token of my thanks.
Go ahead and take it. Of course, these chocolates are especially for you.
You think I don't know what I'm saying? Heh... I know very well. And I've come to know more than you think...
When I think of someone I want to hold dear to me, you're the first person I think of, (Captain).
Hm... Now why are you looking at me with that face? Could I have said something to upset you?
Oh, you're just surprised? Ah, I see. I'm sorry. I mistook your reaction for something else...
I want you to continue being my ally in battle, (Captain), as we continue to support each other. I trust you want the same.

4

(Captain), can I borrow you for a moment?
I need to let you know how I really feel. So here...
I just need to get this off my chest and into the right words...
(Captain)... I...
Hm? Why are you looking down? Did I say something wrong...
Oh, you're just surprised? Then I have succeeded!
I wanted to say that I... respect you as a great leader. That is all.

5

Sorry for calling you out here all of a sudden, (Captain).
I've brought you something in return for your gift the other day.
But I have something I want to say before giving it to you.
I'm afraid I've been wrong in the way I expressed my gratitude up until now.
You were always so thoughtful and sincere toward me—I apologize for how ill-mannered I've acted in return. I'll show you here just how sincere I am as well.
(Captain), your homemade chocolate was delicious.
Here's something from me in return. Yes, I baked it myself.
Did I leave it in the oven for long enough? Okay, that's good. I'm glad I did my research before attempting to make it.
Actually, I have another recipe I'd like to try sometime. Will you taste it for me when I make it?

Trick or Treat Cutscenes

1

Happy Halloween.
Pranks are not my strong point. Would some candy suffice?

2

It looks like the season of costumes is upon us once more.
I'm no good at pranks, so I couldn't join in on the fun last year.
But after traveling with this crew, I think I have a few ideas up my sleeve.
So, what kind of pranks do you enjoy, (Captain)?
Don't be shy. What prank would you play on me? Tell me!

3

When the weather starts to get this chilly, it means the Halloween festival has come back around.
Now then, you've come up with a special trick to play on me this year, haven't you? Go on and give it your best shot.
Hm? Rather than play a trick, you want to be tricked instead?
Hm... I see. This is a bit difficult... What sort of trick would be good to try?
How about if I switch your weapon with my giant sword, (Captain)? It'd be a bit annoying to get used to!
Hm... A more playful trick, you say? What should I do...
Well, they say it's best to watch an expert if you wish to get good at something. So let's go and see what the kids are up to!
We'll have them play a trick on us. That should give us some real food—or tricks—for thought!

4

(Captain)...
Shh!

(Captain) is invited by the hiding Siegfried to join him.

You're here just in time. I'm getting ready to scare some children who will be coming by any moment...
I was able to master the art of hiding, but I'm not sure exactly how I should scare them.
I supposed something frightful will do the trick, eh? I can mimic the movements of the undead quite well.
Hm... I see your point. It may not be wise to put fear into the children's hearts... A simple startle should be sufficient.
Here they come. Will you help me give them a good trick!

5

Oh, is that what you're going with for this year's costume, (Captain)? It looks good on you.
Actually, I tried dressing up this year myself...
The cloak I wore had wings and the children loved it, so they're borrowing it for the time being.
No, it wasn't a bat costume. It was a dragon.
I sewed scales from a real dragon onto the cloak, so it feels quite real too.
Heh. Since everyone loves it so much, venturing deep into the mountains of Feendrache to gather the scales was worth it.
I'll show you the cloak once I get it back. Then you can tell me what you think of it.

Happy Holidays Cutscenes

1

Happy holidays. Santa's on his way, but have you been good this year?
I see... You're not a kid anymore, eh?

2

Even I could stand to relax every once in a while, right?
This time of year always reminds me that I'm not a child anymore.
Anyway, I'm off to deliver presents now.
There's no need to worry. I'll wear the red suit instead of my usual armor.
You've been good this year, (Captain). Perhaps there'll be a present waiting for you as well.

3

Happy holidays! Good to hear you sounding so cheery, (Captain)!
On the way here, a group of children I'd given presents to last year ran up to me. It's clear they've got their hopes up for this year.
But giving a child a gift with their promise that they'll be good for a whole year is a flimsy bet when it comes down to it.
But their bright smiling eyes looking up at me as they asked about their presents was proof enough. They'd honestly kept their promise all year long.
Now then, I think it's time for St. Nick and his reindeer to make an appearance and drop off these gifts!
But don't fret... I was sure to get a gift for you too, (Captain)!
Everyone knows that you've been good this year, (Captain). You deserve a present!

4

Happy holidays, (Captain)!
You want to know what this big bag is for? I'm going to go pass out presents to the children.
Last year, I promised the kids if they were good, I'd visit. I can't let them down.
Heh heh... I like the ring of Siegfried Santa anyways.
Hm? You'll help me pass out the presents?
That'd be much appreciated.
It's not like these are heavy or anything, but some of the stuff just won't fit in my one bag.
You'll get a present too once we pass all these out.
Come on, (Captain). Let's go.

5

When I went to give the children their presents as usual, they gave me an invitation to a party.
On the back of it, there's even a drawing of me looking like quite the hero. I'm honored.
I'm very touched that someone like me would receive such a heartfelt invitation—I never thought that day would come.
On the invitation, it says that I'm welcome to bring a friend to the party. Would you like to come, (Captain)?
All right, then change into this costume.
It's time for St. Nick and his reindeer to give the children a nice surprise!

Ominous Shadow

(Captain) and the crew unexpectedly reunite with Siegfried, who's been sending monster-hunting rewards back to his homeland to help restore it while searching for a way to cleanse it of its pollution. They decide to help him and add him to their ranks.

(Captain) and the crew hear tales of a disturbing presence described as a dark shadow that has thrown a village into an uproar.
On a mission from the Knickknack Shack to search for the shadow, they arrive at the village.
Vyrn: So what can you tell us about this black shadow?
Mayor: Well, a few days ago, a suspicious swordsman with a great sword showed up in the forest outside the village.
Mayor: A young woman from the village vanished in the forest around the same time.
Mayor: To make matters worse, something is messing with the crops in our fields every night, so all the villagers are terrified.
Lyria: That's horrible... We'd better put them at ease!
Vyrn: Yeah! No black shadow's gonna stop us!
Thus the crew heads to the dark forest where the black shadow is said to appear.
Vyrn: Yikes... This place is creepy.
Lyria: Yeah... Vyrn and (Captain), please stay close to me!
(Captain) and the crew suddenly hear something stirring nearby.
Vyrn: Look! I think there's someone with a great sword in the shadow of that tree.
Lyria: You think that's the black shadow? Whoever it is just went into that cave!
Vyrn: All right... Let's follow, but try not to get spotted, (Captain)!
(Captain) and the crew follow the black shadow into the cave.
They soon reach an empty space inside the cave.
But watching the shadow as secretly as possible proves difficult.
Lyria: It's too dark to really see much.
A woman suddenly cries out from near the black shadow.
(Captain) and the crew dash in to help.
Vyrn: Hey! What do you think you're doing?
???: I'll ask you instead. You've been tailing me for a while, so what do you think you're doing?
Lyria: Huh? Is that... Siegfried?
Siegfried: Is it you guys? The crew from before?
Vyrn: Whoa! You were the black shadow all along, Siegfried?
Siegfried: Hey, keep your voice down...
Village Girl: Save me! I've been kidnapped!
Lyria: Please calm down! What's going on here?
Siegfried: Hey! Didn't I tell you to be quiet? It'll hear you!
Monster: Grrr!
Lyria: Eek!
Siegfried: Hyaaa!
Siegfried cuts the monster in two with a single rapid slash.
Siegfried: You're not hurt, are you, Lyria?
Lyria: No, I'm fine. Thank you, Siegfried!
Vyrn: So there was a monster hiding around here? What's this all about?
Siegfried: For the past few days, I've been pursuing this monster, which has a price on its head.
Vyrn: I see... So what about the girl?
Siegfried: When I finally located the monster's lair, I found the girl it kidnapped collapsed here.
Village Girl: Thank you so much for saving me!
Vyrn: So this monster is the one that's been devastating the crops?
Siegfried: Indeed. I realize that all my lurking about made the villagers feel uneasy...
Siegfried: But I didn't want to turn up without proof and end up getting wrongly accused again.
Lyria: And with all that, you ended up saving me again.
Vyrn: All right! Let's go back to the village and tell them what happened!
With the return of the girl to the village, the case closes on the black shadow.
(Captain) and the crew remember Siegfried from an incident in another nation.
Siegfried and the crew joined forces to expose wrongdoing that plagued that nation, but they didn't see each other after that.
To celebrate this reunion, they go to a village tavern to catch up.
Vyrn: So why are you only hunting monsters that have a big bounty on their heads?
Siegfried: Ah, that's a personal matter...
Lyria: What's wrong? If you're having money problems, we might be able to scrape some together for you!
Siegfried: Don't be silly! Children shouldn't say such things.
Lyria: Sorry...
Siegfried: But I appreciate the sentiment. Rest assured that I'm not trying to hide anything shameful from you.
Siegfried: I have a good reason for hunting monsters with bounties on their heads.
Siegfried: It's to send contributions to assist with the revival of my homeland, Feendrache.
Lyria: I see... That would definitely require money.
Siegfried: Even though I'm away from my country, I still want to help out with its revival in any way I can.
Vyrn: That's our Siegfried! You continue to consider the needs of your country like a truly noble knight!
Siegfried: It's really the least I can do to make amends to my country.
Siegfried: But there's actually something I'd much rather give to my country than money.
Lyria: What do you mean?
Siegfried: Well, during my travels I heard rumors of mystical mollusks said to cleanse all blight.
Vyrn: Mollusks? Why would you bother looking for something like that?
Siegfried: I think I can use them to quickly cleanse the parts of my country that are still polluted.
Siegfried: But I still have no clue where the shells can be found.
Lyria: Then why don't you let us help you find them?
Siegfried: That's most kind of you, but aren't you trying to reach the Island of the Astrals?
Siegfried: Are you really willing to take a detour? Or have you given up already?
  1. Oh, lighten up already, Siegfried!
  2. We'll give up the dream...

Choose: Oh, lighten up already, Siegfried!
Siegfried: Excuse me?
Lyria: Hm... You can get way too serious sometimes, but you're still a great person, I think!
Siegfried: Urgh...
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria. You're not exactly helping here...
  1. You're serious, but in a cool way!
  2. We're just kidding! Let's find those shells!

Choose: You're serious, but in a cool way!
Siegfried: Hold on. Are you making fun of me?
Vyrn: Ah! But you look pretty happy regardless!
Siegfried: I'm not especially thrilled. I don't really concern myself with what others think of me.
Lyria: But you really are cool, Siegfried!
Siegfried: Give it a rest. Just tell me what's going on with the Island of the Astrals.
Lyria: Well, we haven't actually found any more clues about the island yet.
Vyrn: Yeah! I mean, if we knew where to go, we wouldn't be running into you on a random mission from the Knickknack Shack!
Siegfried: You know, I'm starting to wonder if you guys are really going to be okay.
Lyria: Really? Then that's one more reason for you to come with us!
Vyrn: Yeah! You're the Dragonslayer after all! So what do you say? Will you join our crew in return for us helping you find those mollusks?
Siegfried: What have I gotten myself into...

Choose: We're just kidding! Let's find those shells!
Siegfried: Enough with the jokes already. Just tell me what you plan to do about your journey.
Vyrn: We haven't even decided where to go next, so don't worry about it!
Lyria: Yeah! And your strength will help us no matter what happens anyway!
Vyrn: So why don't you join our crew in return for us helping you find those mollusks?

Choose: We'll give up the dream...
Vyrn: Hey, (Captain)! You can't be serious! You're joking, right?
Siegfried: ...
Lyria: Wait! I'm sure (Captain) has more to say.
Vyrn: Hey, just tell us you're joking! C'mon, (Captain)!
  1. We can't just bail on Siegfried!
  2. ...

Choose: We can't just bail on Siegfried!
Vyrn: Oh... So he's that important to you, huh, (Captain)?
Lyria: You've been wanting to help Feendrache ever since that incident, right, (Captain)?
Siegfried: I see... But even so, you'll never give up on reaching the Island of the Astrals then.
Siegfried: You know, neither of us has much of a way with words.

Choose: ...
Siegfried: What's wrong? I can't read your mind, you know.
Vyrn: That's right. You gotta speak up. Right, Lyria?
Lyria: It's just a hunch... but I think I know how (Captain) feels.
Lyria gazes into (Captain)'s eyes for a moment and then begins to speak softly.
Lyria: I think (Captain) wants to say that finding the Island of the Astrals isn't worth it...
Lyria: If it means abandoning someone who's in trouble right before your eyes.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Siegfried: I see... So that's your answer then.
Siegfried: You know, neither of us has much of a way with words.

With a gravely serious expression on his face, Siegfried stares into (Captain)'s eyes.
He senses something deep within those eyes, and he slowly opens his mouth with apparent resolve.
Siegfried: Understood. You've certainly made yourselves clear.
Siegfried: Perhaps it was fate for us to be reunited like this.
Siegfried: (Captain), I would like for you and your friends to help me out with both my search and the revival of Feendrache.
Vyrn: You got it! Those mollusks will be easier to find with all of us looking!
Lyria: That's right! Siero might know something!
Vyrn: Besides, Siegfried will probably end up framed again if we don't look after him!
Siegfried: Indeed. That's not the least bit funny, but there's probably some truth to it.
Siegfried: You'll help me if it ever happens again, right, Lyria?
Lyria: Yeah! I owe you one after all!
Siegfried: I appreciate that. Well, it seems that my life is in your hands for the time being, everyone.
Thus the lone swordsman Siegfried joins the crew on their journey.
And with an unwavering faith, he is determined to discover what he yearns to find.

Purifying Shell

With Siegfried's homeland of Feendrache suffering from pollution, (Captain) and the crew accompany him to a village with mollusks that can solve the problem. They learn that the mollusk population has declined, but monsters invade before they can learn more.

One day the crew gets information from Sierokarte about the mollusks said to cleanse all blight.
To find out if it's true, (Captain) sets a course for Bloodshell Village.
Siegfried: I'm sorry... Once again I've caused us to take a detour on our journey.
Vyrn: Don't be silly! We promised you that we'd check out any rumors we got about those mollusks!
Lyria: Exactly! Besides, you help us all the time.
Lyria: Let us help you for once! Right, (Captain)?
Siegfried: Thank you... It relieves me to hear that.
Vyrn: Don't sweat it! Hopefully we'll find what you're looking for this time!
Siegfried: Indeed... Looking back, this mission has caused enough trouble for you guys already.
Vyrn: Look, Siegfried! I think that's the island!
The crew reaches Bloodshell Village and promptly visits the village elder's house.
Siegfried: So we heard there's a type of mollusk near this village that can cleanse all blight...
Elder: You're right... There are indeed venomolls to be found nearby.
Siegfried: Venomolls, huh? Could you tell me more about them?
Elder: They're just as you've heard: peculiar mollusks that favor a diet of poison.
Elder: The water around our wasteland here was once cleansed of pollution by those miraculous creatures.
Elder: However... their population has decreased a lot since then, and finding them won't be easy.
Siegfried: I see. But why'd the population drop so dramatically?
Elder: Something began dwelling in the lake, disrupting the ecosystem out there.
Elder: Because of this, the water in this area is undrinkable and we're forced to get water from a distant water source...
Vyrn: Oh... I'm sorry to hear that.
Siegfried: But what exactly lives in the lake? Can't anything be done about it?
Elder: We'd love to do something, but no one can step foot in the forest surrounding where the venomolls live.
Lyria: Why not? What happens if you enter?
Elder: ...
Vyrn: Come on... Can't you tell us? We really need those things!
Siegfried: Wait... He must have his reasons.
Elder: You aren't the only ones to come here asking about the venomoll rumors...
Elder: But no one who enters the forest in search of them has ever returned.
Siegfried: What do you mean?
Elder: Exactly what I said. Whatever lies in that lake will eat anyone who ventures there.
Elder: I hope you understand now... Don't throw your lives away so easily.
Just then, a villager dashes into in the room.
Villager: Elder! Monsters suddenly appeared around the village! There's a whole group of them out there!
Elder: What? Hm... They're back again. Quick! Gather any man who can fight!
Siegfried: Hold on. Just leave this to me.
Lyria: Ah! Siegfried!
Vyrn: All right! Sound's like we're up too, (Captain)!

Purifying Shell: Scene 2

To get the mollusks, (Captain) and the crew must defeat the deity Odoro living near the lake. Siegfried is determined to go after it for the sake of the village and his homeland.

(Captain) and the crew wipe out the monsters that appeared around the village.
They gather before the elder once again.
Elder: Incredible! You defeated the monsters so quickly.
Vyrn: Heh-heh! How do you like that?
Elder: Perhaps you can beat Odoro... No. I'm getting ahead of myself.
Lyria: What is this Odoro? Can you tell us?
Siegfried: There's a country I want to save with the help of venomolls.
Siegfried: So please tell us. There might be something we can do.
Elder: Hm... Well, if you insist.
Though reluctant, the elder quietly begins to speak of Odoro.
Elder: Odoro is a creature so horrific we fear to even speak its name.
Elder: It has claimed the venomolls' lake as its territory and rules as the area deity.
Elder: Ever since Odoro appeared, monsters began inhabiting this region.
Siegfried: Just what kind of monster is this Odoro?
Elder: I know not... No one has returned to tell the tale.
Elder: The previous elder, who also knew of Odoro, left us with a parting message warning us not to go near the northern lake.
Vyrn: Whoa... This Odoro sounds like really bad news!
Lyria: Yes... I don't sense a presence right now, but it could very well be a primal beast.
Siegfried: All right... If we defeat this Odoro, will you let us have some venomolls?
Elder: Humph... Certainly. If you have the power to defeat Odoro, that is.
Vyrn: Yikes... This might be a tough job even for you, the Dragonslayer.
Siegfried: Maybe you're right. But I must go even if I don't stand a chance.
Lyria: Siegfried...
Elder: Is there nothing I can say to dissuade you?
Siegfried: I'm afraid not. I going to put an end to this.
Siegfried: You said the northern lake, right? (Captain), what will you guys do?
  1. I'm ready!
  2. I'm shaking...

Choose: I'm ready!
Siegfried: Humph! I knew you'd say that.
Siegfried: I'm counting on you, (Captain).

Choose: I'm shaking...
Siegfried: Ha-ha! You're trembling with excitement! It's a sign that you're ready to fight.
Siegfried: Don't worry. Once the battle begins, your bravery will steady your hand.
Continue 1
Siegfried: All right... It's time to go!

Purifying Shell: Scene 3

Siegfried, (Captain), and the crew head for the northern lake, debating along the way what sort of creature they will face. The moment they reach the lake, a roar echoes through the air.

Siegfried, (Captain), and the crew advance through the deep forest toward the area of the northern lake.
Siegfried: Our destination should be just ahead. Keep your wits about you.
Vyrn: R-roger that! But what exactly could Odoro be?
Lyria: It's scary that no one knows what it is...
Siegfried: How about it, Lyria? Do you sense any power nearby?
Lyria: No, I don't sense any primal power, or even primal beasts.
Vyrn: What if it happens to be sleeping right now and then suddenly wakes up? Is that possible?
Siegfried: Heh... Well, we'll have an especially grumpy monster on our hands if it is.
Vyrn: Yikes... I sure hope not.
Siegfried: Don't let your guard down. Judging from what the villagers say, it must possess great power.
Just when they reach the northern lake, there's a deafening roar.
Vyrn: Whoa! Is that thing Odoro?
Lyria: No way... Is that really its true form?
Siegfried: Well, whatever it is, it's the ruler of this lake... Don't hold back! To arms, (Captain)!

Purifying Shell: Scene 4

Upon presenting the venomolls to King Carl, Siegfried is invited by the monarch to return to Feendrache. But he chooses to continue journeying with the crew, hoping to repay his debt to (Captain).

After defeating Odoro, Siegfried, (Captain), and the crew leave Bloodshell Village and its grateful residents behind.
They head directly to Feendrache with a cargo of venomolls curled up in their purifying shells.
King Carl: Siegfried! (Captain)! I'm truly glad to see your faces once again.
King Carl: Now, Siegfried. What is it you've come to discuss?
Siegfried: Your Majesty...
Siegfried tells King Carl about his journey to find mollusks rumored to cleanse all blight.
Siegfried: And here they are... The famed venomolls.
Siegfried: If we release these into the river, they'll feed on the pollutants and cleanse the water.
King Carl: What? Is this true?
King Carl: Siegfried! (Captain)! You've done this kingdom a great service.
Vyrn: You know, Siegfried never stopped thinking of the kingdom even while journeying with us!
King Carl: Siegfried. There are none more loyal than you.
King Carl: What do you say? Will you return to serve me again?
Siegfried: ...
Lyria: (Captain)... is Siegfried really going to return to his king?
  1. That might be for the best...
  2. I wanted him to stick with us longer...

Choose: That might be for the best...
Siegfried: Humph! So you think my place is at the royal capital?
Siegfried: I appreciate your thoughtfulness... but my heart is surely set.

Choose: I wanted him to stick with us longer...
Siegfried: Humph! So you think my place is with your crew?
Siegfried: I appreciate your thoughtfulness... and my heart is surely set.

Siegfried: Your Majesty, your words do me more honor than I deserve.
Siegfried: I would happily accept your gracious offer, but I have an obligation to repay (Captain) for helping me on my travels.
Siegfried: As such, I'd like to help this crew see their journey to its end.
Siegfried: Could you find it in your heart to allow me this role?
King Carl thinks silently for a moment before responding.
King Carl: Very well... I would expect nothing less of you.
King Carl: I am truly proud that you have become such an honorable knight.
Siegfried: Thank you. Once the journey is over, I swear to return to Feendrache.
Lyria: I'm so happy! To think we can continue our journey with Siegfried...
King Carl: Well, it seems you've been blessed with great comrades. It won't be long before the Dragonslayer's name is again respected throughout the skies!
Vyrn: Ha-ha! Dragonslayer, huh?
Vyrn: Sorry to break it to ya, but he's got himself a new nickname now!
Lyria: Let's see... What was it again?
Vyrn: You know! Remember what the villagers were calling him after we defeated Odoro?
Lyria: Oh! It was Bearslayer! Siegfried the Bearslayer!
King Carl: B-Bearslayer?
Siegfried: Yes. You see, this Odoro beast was a vicious bear and the area deity.
Siegfried: I was therefore honored with the new title of Bearslayer.
King Carl: Oh... I see...
Siegfried: So I'm not yet sure which name will be known throughout the sky...
Siegfried: But which name do you think sounds better, Your Majesty?
Siegfried decides to continue journeying with the crew no matter where their adventure leads them.
But whether he'll be known as the Dragonslayer, Bearslayer, or something else entirely, is yet to be determined.

Demon Dark

The Order of the White Dragons learns of a remote village that was destroyed, and that Siegfried is to blame. At the same time, (Captain) and the crew show up with news that Siegfried has disappeared from the airship. Working together with Lancelot and Vane, they search the remote village for clues to Siegfried's whereabouts.

A village burns wildly, enveloped in scarlet flames.
Siegfried: ...
Village Man: Agh...
Siegfried: ...
Village Woman: Nghh...
The flames roar brightly, illuminating Siegfried's solemn face.
Siegfried: ...
He stands there in blood-soaked armor, grim and vacant.
Fearful Villager: (It's him!)
A villager watches from the shadows as the swordsman disappears into the forest.
One day, the Order of the White Dragons receives word that a remote village has been destroyed, with a witness identifying Siegfried as the culprit.
Lancelot and Vane listen as the villager recounts his story.
Fearful Villager: I saw him... I watched him flee after he slaughtered everyone.
Fearful Villager: And with that armor and giant sword, it just had to be Siegfried!
A wave of unease washes over the room.
Lancelot: I have no reason to believe that you are lying.
Lancelot: With that said, could you be mistaken about what you saw?
Vane: Hey now, everybody! It's about time you get back to your posts!
Vane senses the alarm amongst the knights and quickly dismisses them.
Fearful Villager: I'm sure I saw him! You must believe me!
Lancelot: ...
Vane: I'm sure you were pretty shaken up. Maybe you saw a bear or something instead.
Fearful Villager: There's no mistake! I know it was him!
Vane: Yeah, but come on! He's got no reason to do something like that. Right?
Lancelot: (Vane! Mind your tongue.)
Vane: (You think we should believe this ridiculous story?)
Lancelot: (I know how you feel, but we can't simply dismiss it either.)
Vane: (Fine, fine. I hear ya.)
Fearful Villager: No... You're wrong. Because he wasn't even human. He was a monster.
The room grows tense with fear and urgency at the villager's new claim.
Lancelot: Very well. We shall be the ones handling this matter for now.
Lancelot: We have your story. You may take your leave.
Fearful Villager: Siegfried... He's a monster. You can't reason with beasts.
The villager mutters on about Siegfried, as if crazed by the memory of his cold gaze.
The villager shuffles out of the room just as (Captain) and company enter. They hurry toward the two knights.
Vyrn: Hey you guys! Take a look at this!
Vyrn shows them a handwritten note from Siegfried.
The note is short, saying that he'll be leaving the airship for a while.
Lyria: Siegfried's disappeared!
Lancelot: I see... So he wasn't with (Captain)'s crew at the time.
Vane: Aw man... I guess resolving this isn't going to easy.
Lyria: Hmm? What are you talking about?
Vane: That, uh... Hey, you guys have perfect timing!
Vane: As in, you and the gang can help us find Siegfried!
Lancelot: Uh, yes. Good thinking.
Vyrn: Huh? He isn't here?
Vane: That's right, Vyrn! So let's put our heads together and look for him!
Vyrn: Wait a sec... You don't know where he is either?
Lyria: Um...
Vane: And now that we're all here, it's time for action! Come on, Lancey! Let's go!
Lancelot: Fine. I'll explain everything on the way.
The crew, joined by Lancelot and Vane, learns of the incident at the village and Siegfried's possible involvement.
Vyrn: Good grief... Siegfried's gotten himself in deep this time!
Lancelot: Well, we can't be sure of that yet.
Lyria: Maybe. But I'm getting worried about him.
Vane: It'll be fine. After all, this isn't the first time he's disappeared on us!
Lancelot: You've got a point. Surely he's off trying to handle something all on his own.
Vyrn: So? Where are we off to now?
Lancelot: For now, I think we should look into that village where the incident took place.
Lyria: Got it! We'll search high and low! Right, (Captain)?
Vane: Great! I'm counting on you!
Vane: But be careful, (Captain). Because we've got some monsters up ahead!

Demon Dark: Scene 2

The crew arrives at the remote village to a gruesome scene. The damage seems to be incapable of anything a human could carry out, but Lancelot finds a strip of cloth appearing to be Siegfried's. Suddenly, a horde of zombies appear, forcing the crew to fight their way through.

(Captain) and company visit the remote village in search of leads on the incident, as well as Siegfried's whereabouts.
But when they arrive, they stand frozen in silence, gazing upon the gruesome sight before them.
Vane: No way...
Lyria: Just... how could this have happened?
Vane: Look, how about you guys go take a little break over there?
Lancelot: Right... We should've thought a bit longer before leading you here.
Vyrn: But you couldn't have known what was here. Don't worry about it!
Lyria: And when I see something like this, I just have to do something.
(Captain) nods, agreeing with Lyria.
Vane: I see. It seems (Captain) leads a pretty strong crew.
Vane: I guess I was overthinking the situation a bit. Sorry...
Vane scratches his head and smiles awkwardly at (Captain) and company.
Lancelot: Look around. This doesn't seem like something a human could do.
Vane: Yeah. Just what could've done all this damage?
Lancelot: Hm?
Lancelot sees a strip of cloth caught on a piece of collapsed roof.
Lancelot: (No doubt about it... This is Siegfried's...)
Vane: What's up, Lancey? Did you find a clue?
Lancelot: N-no, it's nothing!
Lancelot quickly slips the cloth into his pocket.
Lancelot: (No, it can't be... We need more proof.)
Zombie: Grrr!
Lancelot: !
Vane: Look out!
Zombie: Grrr...
A zombie closes in on Lancelot, but Vane slices right through it.
Lancelot: Thanks...
Vane: Heh heh! No problem!
Vane: Is it just me or are more and more of them coming out of nowhere?
Lyria: Yeah, it's like they're gathering here!
Vyrn: Woah... If we don't do something, we'll be surrounded!
Lancelot: Don't worry. I can fight off this many on my own.
Lancelot: Vane and (Captain), follow me and I'll spearhead our way through!
Vane: Great! We're right behind ya!
Lancelot: Good... Now let's go!

Demon Dark: Scene 3

Black smoke rises high into the sky, and the crew decides to find the source. They are shocked to discover a burning village and a sinister Siegfried, slashing villagers one by one. Lancelot is shaken, but determined, to lead the crew in a fight to stop this friend-turned-foe.

The crew fights through the zombies and find a safe place to rest.
Lancelot: There doesn't seem to be any more around. We should be safe here.
Lancelot: Good job, everyone!
Vyrn: Whew! I was sweating scales back there!
Vane: Well, we ran pretty far. I doubt they'll chase us all the way out here.
Lyria: Um... Vane?
Vane: Huh? What's wrong, Lyria?
Lyria: It's just, I think you can put me down now...
Vane: Oops! You're so light I didn't even notice!
Vane bends down as Lyria, a bit embarrassed, hops off of his back.
The crew settles for a spell when they notice black smoke rising into the sky.
Vyrn: Hey, Lancelot. What's that smoke?
Lancelot: Hmm? Smoke? Oh, I see... It's rising pretty high.
Vane: And look... It's like the sky is glowing.
Suspicious of this strange spectacle, the two suggest to (Captain) and company that they should all go check it out.
The crew agrees and they head toward the source of the smoke.
What they find is a village, engulfed in crimson flames.
There amongst the dancing flames walks a swordsman, slaying villagers one by one.
???: ...
???:
Villager: Guggh...
Villager:
His figure, bathed in their blood, shines brightly in the blaze.
Siegfried: ...
Lancelot: Huh?
Lancelot: Siegfried?
Siegfried: Lancelot?
Lancelot: Why? Answer me, Siegfried!
Siegfried: Disappear.
Without word or warning, Siegfried lunges at Lancelot.
Siegfried: Haaaah!
Lancelot: Nghh...
Lancelot dodges his strike by a hair.
Vane: Hohhh!
Siegfried: Humph.
Vane jumps in and attacks Siegfried, who easily evades him.
Lancelot: Vane! Thanks for the save!
Vane: Oy, Lancelot! Siegfried looks like he's not playing around!
Lancelot: It would seem so.
Vane: I dunno if he's being controlled or what, but let's figure it out later!
Vane: If we hesitate now, we're done for!
Lancelot: Yeah... I'm ready!
Vyrn: Whoa whoa! What's going on here?
Lyria: I don't know but he looks serious.
Lancelot: (Captain)! It's just as it looks... He's coming for us.
Vane: We can't win this unless we go in at full force!
Lancelot: So let's work together and bind his attacks!
Lancelot: (What's happened to you, Siegfried?)
Siegfried: Humph...
Lancelot: Hah... Take this!

Demon Dark: Scene 4

In the heat of the battle, Siegfried's blade swings down on Lancelot for a fatal blow, but suddenly, another Siegfried appears and blocks the attack. Before they can settle the fight, a man named Hagen appears and orders the hostile Siegfried to stand down. The two disappear, leaving the crew with the other Siegfried to lead them in the chase for Hagen.

The crew continues to defend itself against Siegfried's assault.
Lancelot: Siegfried... Why?
Siegfried: ...
Lancelot: Answer me! I was... I...
Lancelot is shaken, and in that instant, a giant sword swings toward him.
In his moment of weakness, Lancelot exposes himself to a sure, direct hit from Siegfried.
But suddenly a black shadow appears, swinging a massive sword to parry the attack.
Siegfried: What's wrong with you, Lancelot?
Siegfried: You've gotten slow. What happened to all your drive in Howling Valley?
Lancelot: Siegfried?
Siegfried: Once you see me stray from the path, regardless of who I was, you must strike me down.
Vane: What's going on here! Two Siegfrieds!
Siegfried: Vane, I'll explain later. First, we need to get the other me out of our way.
With Lancelot saved and Siegfried's calming words, relief falls over the group.
Siegfried: Found you.
Siegfried (?): Die.
???: Stand down!
A man suddenly appears, and with his short command, the other Siegfried calmly obeys.
???: Tch... I thought you could wipe out those skyfarers.
Siegfried: Hagen.
Lancelot: Who are you, you filth!
Hagen: Humph... We shall retreat for now.
Siegfried (?): As you wish.
Siegfried: Wait! Hagen!
Hagen: Don't worry. I'll leave you with a few friends to play with.
And in a flash, a swarm of zombies appear.
Lancelot: Ugh. That's more than just a few. A lot more.
Siegfried: Nothing to it. We'll pierce our way through!
Lancelot: S-sir!
Vane: Roger that! And y-you're the real Siegfried... right?
Siegfried: Yes. Trust me. I'll tell you everything after we escape!
Siegfried: Now let's go! Follow me!
With Siegfried leading the charge, the crew slashes and scatters the undead as they chase after Hagen.
Two Siegfrieds have appeared before the crew. With doubts in their minds, they choose to follow their hearts and believe in the man now guiding them forward.

Facing the Demons

While searching for Hagen, Siegfried explains why he left the airship. Several days earlier, Siegfried had received an ominous letter from Hagen, threatening the safety of the country. Following the letter's instructions, Siegfried went off alone to stop Hagen in his scheme.

(Captain) and company, now reunited with Siegfried, are in search of a man named Hagen.
Siegfried quietly begins his story, revealing why he left and how he'd found himself here.
Siegfried: It began several days ago, you see...
Several days earlier, Siegfried receives a startling letter.
???: I've placed a fatal curse on this land, and it shall fall first on that beloved village of yours.
???: If you don't move quickly, the people you once rescued will find themselves in hell once again.
???: I'll be waiting where the view is splendid. Come alone, and tell no one.
???: Tell me, Siegfried. Will you settle this just as you did then?
Siegfried: It can't be...
After reading the letter, Siegfried quickly leaves on his own.
Siegfried: Let me make it in time...
Monster: Gwaaa!
Siegfried: Out of the way!
Monster: Gwaaa...
Beasts begin to close in on Siegfried, intent on devouring him.
Siegfried: You caught me in a bad mood. There's no holding back now!

Facing the Demons: Scene 2

While rushing through the forest, Siegfried hears a woman's scream. He follows the sound to find a village in ruins. Having come too late, he chooses to give peace to the suffering villagers, who've now turned into undead shadows. He silently raises his blade to finish off the bizarre beings gathering before him.

Several days earlier, Siegfried receives an ominous letter from Hagen and runs off alone to seek him out.
While rushing through the forest, he hears a woman scream.
Siegfried: Over there.
Following the sound, Siegfried finds himself in a village.
But the abysmal scene before him reveals that it's already too late.
Siegfried: I didn't make it...
Village Woman: Save me... Please...
A woman pleads to him for help.
Village Man: Gurghgh...
A man approaches the injured woman from behind, but there is something bizarre about his appearance.
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried: I may be too late, but at least I can end this quickly.
Village Man: Agh...
Siegfried slices through him in one broad sweep.
Siegfried: Miss, it's safe now. Are you hurt?
Siegfried turns back toward the woman...
... but her face is more ashen than before, and she begins to groan just as the man did.
Village Woman: Grrr...
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried: May you rest in peace.
Village Woman: Nghh...
Siegfried: ...
Drawn by the voices, strange figures begin to gather from all around.
Siegfried silently raises his blade and dashes head-on into the throng of shadows.

Facing the Demons: Scene 3

Siegfried reveals that Hagen is a necromancer, and that a similar incident had happened in the past. Siegfried regrets his carelessness in letting Hagen escape long ago, so Lancelot and Vane, along with (Captain) and company offer to help him get Hagen this time. With a new resolve, they head for the hill where Hagen awaits.

Moving through the forest, (Captain) and company, along with Siegfried, chase after Hagen.
A sense of unspoken urgency can be felt in the air.
Siegfried: As I was tracking down Hagen, I noticed the smoke rising through the air.
Siegfried: And then I found you.
Lancelot: I see. So that's how it is.
Lancelot: And just who is this Hagen guy anyway?
Siegfried: Hagen uses supernatural powers to control the dead. He's a necromancer.
Siegfried: I've no doubt. That monster was a zombie in my armor.
Vane: Woah! That thing was a zombie!
Vane: But, he seemed to recognize Lancey...
Siegfried: Perhaps, he's gotten ahold of something of mine and used sorcery to bind the two.
Siegfried: In fact, something similar happened in the past.
Siegfried: I'd chased him down, and I'd almost had him. But I let him escape.
Siegfried: All of this is due to my carelessness.
(Captain) and company could see the regret in his face.
Lancelot: Siegfried... Let's get Hagen this time.
Vane: Yeah! We'll do whatever we can!
Siegfried: I suppose you're right.
Siegfried: Just grumbling about it won't do us any good.
Siegfried: I'm much obliged to the both of you.
Vyrn: Heh heh! We'll give you a hand too!
Lyria: Yep! We can do it if we work together!
Having learned of the circumstances befallen Siegfried, the crew is eager to bring down Hagen.
(Captain) and company exit the forest and reach a church on a hill.
There, with a full view of the royal capital below, Hagen and his zombified warrior lie in wait.
Hagen: Finally... Finally! The time has come!
Zombie Knight: ...
Siegfried: Hagen. What is it you're after?
Hagen: Ah? What am I after? You know well enough.
Hagen: I'm here to ruin you and this land!
Hagen's spell causes countless zombies to spill out of the graves in the churchyard.
Siegfried: Enough. I'll not have you disgrace the dead any longer!
Hagen: Oh? Then try and stop me, Siegfried! For I am Hagen!
Siegfried: Don't think this will turn out like last time. I've brought friends with me.
Hagen: Bah... Now go! Destroy them all!
Zombie: Gurghgh...
Zombie: Brruergh...
Zombie Knight: As you wish.
With a sinister and deadly gaze, the swordsman moves toward the crew.
Siegfried: Lancelot, Vane, (Captain)! You handle the zombies over there!
Lancelot: Roger! Let's go, Vane!
Vane: Gotcha, Lancey! Lyria, you stay right behind me!
Lyria: Thanks! But, I'm gonna fight!
Vyrn: All right! You ready, (Captain)?
Siegfried: Leave Hagen and the swordsman to me. Now let's go!

Facing the Demons: Scene 4

Siegfried slays the zombie swordsman in one stroke. Hagen escapes into the church and finds a mother and child. Taking them hostage, he uses the opportunity to deal Siegfried a fatal blow. But Siegfried strikes back with a hidden blade, destroying Hagen. Despite his mortal wound, Siegfried heals quickly and grimly confesses that he may no longer be human. However, this is accepted and encouraged by his comrades, giving him strength for the journey ahead.

(Captain) and company drive back the mob of zombies.
Meanwhile, Siegfried battles against the zombie knight.
Siegfried: Haaah!
Zombie Knight: Nghh!
With incredible force, Siegfried slashes the abomination in two.
Zombie Knight: Agh... Nghh!
Hagen: It can't be! My greatest creation in only one stroke!
Siegfried: In the end, it was a wooden puppet in my likeness.
Siegfried: You could never defeat me with just that.
Lancelot: Excellent! Siegfried's got him!
Vane: Yeah! Leave it to Siegfried!
Hagen: Curses! You pests!
Hagen: Curses! Curses! Curses!
Seeing that he's been cornered, Hagen escapes into the church.
Siegfried: The end draws near. Prepare yourself, Hagen.
Just then, Hagen sees a mother and child trembling in the shadows of the church.
Hagen: Ha ha! The heavens haven't given up on me just yet!
Mother: Help us... Please...
Child: Mama...
Hagen: Don't move or I'll end their lives!
Siegfried: Humph...
Hagen: Oy! Did you hear me? Throw down your sword!
Siegfried: All right.
Siegfried reluctantly obeys, tossing away his blade.
Siegfried: I did as you asked. Now let them go free.
Hagen: I'm not done! And don't let your friends come near!
Siegfried: Stay back, everyone.
Lancelot: Siegfried!
Vane: But we can't!
Siegfried: Please... just do as I say.
Lancelot: Understood.
(Captain) and company decide to follow Siegfried's instructions.
But in that moment, his attention strays...
Siegfried: Nghh... Agh!
And Hagen's blade pierces through him.
Lancelot: You fool! Enough!
Siegfried: Don't move, Lancelot!
Lancelot: ...
Vane: There's no way we'll just stand here and watch!
Siegfried: Please... I'll be all right.
Hagen: What was that? You'll be all right, you say?
Hagen: I've pierced a vital point! You won't be moving much longer.
Siegfried: ...
Hagen: And with your body, I will no doubt create the ultimate pawn.
Hagen moves over to Siegfried's side.
The necromancer begins casting his sorcery on Siegfried.
Hagen: Ah... Huh?
But suddenly, deep crimson blood begins to spurt from Hagen's neck.
Siegfried has slit his throat with a blade hidden in his sleeve.
Siegfried: Are you hurt? Agh!
Splattered in Hagen's blood, Siegfried struggles to crawl closer to the two captives.
Mother: I... I... I'm sorry!
Hagen: Frightened, the mother hurries away with her child in tow.
Hagen: It would seem... you've always been a monster.
With a weak smile, Hagen speaks between shallow breaths as the zombies begin to disappear.
The crew rushes over to Siegfried.
Lancelot: Siegfried... No...
Siegfried: Nghh... Agh!
Vane: Wait, Siegfried! If you take out the sword, you'll spew blood everywhere!
Siegfried: Nghh... Gah...
Siegfried: Hehe. I guess I really overdid it this time.
Lancelot: Siegfried! You must remain conscious!
Siegfried: Sorry, Lancelot. Let me sleep... for just a while.
Lancelot: Siegfried! Siegfried!
Siegfried closes his eyes in relief, but the voices calling his name won't reach.
Hagen's scheme is thwarted thanks to Siegfried and the crew.
The face-off on the hill as well as Siegfried's victory halt the wave of undead creatures from spreading throughout the land.
Several days pass.
Siegfried lies in a room within the castle's infirmary, surrounded by friends.
Lancelot: ...
Vane: ...
Vyrn: ...
Lyria: ...
Siegfried: Agh... Nghh...
Lancelot: Siegfried!
Siegfried: Lancelot? Where am I...
Lancelot: You've been sleeping this whole time!
Lancelot: But I'm sure relieved, Siegfried.
Vane: I had to carry you all the way back here, you know!
Vane: Lancey was useless. He was so upset!
Lancelot: Oy, Vane!
Vane: Ha ha! I'm just kidding!
Vane: You found a doctor for us pretty quick!
Siegfried: Lancelot, Vane... (Captain) and the crew...
Siegfried: You have my thanks.
Siegfried: I know... you've all gone out of your way for me.
Vyrn: Aw, don't worry about that. After all, we're friends!
Lyria: Yep! I'm so glad everyone's safe now!
Siegfried: I knew you'd say that.
Siegfried: Agh!
Siegfried's face twists in pain as he tries to lift himself up.
Lancelot: Siegfried, don't push yourself!
Vane: Ah! That reminds me! The doctor took a look and said that your bleeding had stopped.
Vane: That injury should've been fatal, but you're like a beast or something! The doctor was shocked!
In fact, Siegfried's wound is almost entirely healed.
He places a hand against the scar and smiles weakly in answer.
Siegfried: Actually, ever since that encounter with Fafnir when I was soaked in its blood...
Siegfried: My body seems to heal faster than others.
Siegfried: Humph... What do you think? I guess I really am a beast or something.
The room grows still at Siegfried's confession.
Vane, trembling slightly, reaches out to Siegfried.
Vane: No no no! You're incredible, Siegfried!
Vane: You're so cool! You're like, beyond hero-level!
Siegfried: You think... I'm cool?
Lancelot, unable to stand it any longer, begins to laugh.
Lancelot: Ha ha! Cool... huh?
Lancelot: Indeed, Vane's got it right this time.
Lancelot: As long are you're okay, Siegfried, we have no complaints.
Siegfried is moved by their words, but hides his feelings in a scowl.
Siegfried: Good grief... I'll never get rid of you two...
Vyrn: They're right though. We don't mind it at all!
Lyria: It seems you have lots of friends who care for you, Siegfried!
Surrounded by friends, Siegfried shows them a rare smile.
Siegfried: Humph.
Siegfried: (Looks like I won't be fading away quietly...)
Siegfried is back on his feet in no time, thanks to the nursing, and some nagging, from his comrades.
In a room full of laughter and warmth, he learns to accept himself as he faces the long journey ahead.

Unbridled Fantasies

Lunalu grows frustrated when she fails to perfectly capture Siegfried's sublime form in a piece of art. But with his words of encouragement, Lunalu quickly regains confidence and completes what she considers to be her magnum opus.

One day Lunalu sets her heart on capturing the form of a certain man.
Siegfried: I hope to make myself useful on the crew, (Captain).
Lyria: Yay! It's a pleasure to have you, Siegfried! I feel like things will go by so much more smoothly with you around!
(Captain) and company welcome Siegfried into the crew.
Unbeknownst to all a shadowy figure watches from a distance.
Lunalu: (Eep! I, I can't believe my eyes! My knight in shining armor is standing right there!)
Lunalu: (A dignified knight keeping an enigmatical air of mystery by veiling his face underneath that decadent armor!)
Lunalu: (Teehee... What mysteries that helmet could be concealing!)
Lunalu: (Pant... Wheeze... I... Aagh, this is too much! I can't stop fantasizing about the possibilities! Hey, get back to your senses, Lunalu!)
Siegfried: You there. In the shadows.
Lunalu: Eek! I've been spotted!
Vyrn: Hm, you see something there? Wait, Lunalu? Whatcha doing out here?
Lunalu: I... I was just looking for my chance to enter the conversation.
Lyria: I guess I should introduce you! This here is Lunalu and she does fantastic artwork!
Vyrn: Yeah, she totally knocks it out of the park when it comes to monster drawings! But I heard she actually prefers romance nov—
Lunalu: Ack! Aiiee! Eeep!
No! Stop right there!
Vyrn: Whoa! No need to scream, is there?
Lunalu: No means no! Say another word and I'll never forgive you!
Siegfried: Sigh... Your crew's as lively as ever, (Captain).
  1. Does that bother you?
  2. That's what makes it so fun!

Choose: Does that bother you?
Siegfried: Not at all. On the contrary seeing how much fun everyone's having only shows what a great captain you are.

Choose: That's what makes it so fun!
Siegfried: Haha, I figured you'd say that. Everyone I've met on the crew before joining up shares that same look of contentment on their faces.

Lunalu: (Aah... The sharp contrast his soft-spoken voice makes against the stark edges of his armor! He may hide his face, but I can almost sense the oh-so tender smile lying within!)
Vyrn: Hey, hey, Lunalu! What's with the staring?
Lunalu: Ah! No, it's nothing...
Lunalu: (And revelation strikes! My mind seethes with visions of him in every pose conceivable! I must capture his magnificent form while my imagination is running wild!)
Lunalu clenches her fists in determination.
Lunalu: (My chance is now! I will not let such rare perfection idly slip past me!)
Siegfried: Is everything okay? Something stuck to my face?
Lunalu: Er, umm... If you don't mind, I'd be so happy if you could please pose for my drawing!
Lunalu: I can draw monsters pretty well, but when it comes to people, I tend to stumble a lot...
Lunalu: And when I saw you, that's when it hit! You embody the perfect bodily form that I've always wanted to capture on my canvas!
Siegfried: Hm, I see where you're coming from now. Though I'm sorry to say I don't think I'd be of much help.
Siegfried: I believe there are many aboard the ship who would better serve your artistic needs.
Lunalu: No, it must be you! Please! If you will give me permission to sketch your form from even a distance away, that would be more than enough!
Faced with such a desperate Lunalu, Siegfried pauses for a moment of contemplation.
Siegfried: ...
Very well, it'd be rather boorish of me to turn down such an earnest request, so do what you must.
Lunalu: Ah! Thank you so much!
With Siegfried's approval at last, Lunalu begins observing him from the shadows the day after.
She tightly grips her well-worn sketchbook and brush pen, intent to capture every fine detail of Siegfried.
Lyria: Oh, Siegfried! We're heading out to deal with some monsters soon. Would you like to come along?
Siegfried: Sure, count me in. I'll help you with your training on the way there, (Captain).
Vyrn: Hehe, lucky you, (Captain)! You were always talking about how you'd love to train with Siegfried!
Lyria: Yeah! Seeing (Captain) happy makes me happy too!
Lunalu: (Ah! Could it be that Siegfried knew (Captain) was hesitating and stepped up to make the offer himself?)
Lunalu: (If that's true, it's not fair! But, oh, the gentle compassion he exudes is quite something to behold!)
Lunalu furiously sketches away as she stares at (Captain) and company with wide-open eyes.
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria...
Lyria: Shh! No, Vyrn! We shouldn't disrupt Lunalu when she's so focused!
Vyrn: I know, but...
The way Lunalu nods, giggles, and exaggeratedly stretches out her arms toward the skies at Siegfried's every little gesture makes her look alarmingly suspicious.
Other crew members watch Lunalu with apprehension, but she pays no heed to them and continues her fine brush strokes.
Although at first weary of the frequent and curious glances being cast at him, Siegfried quickly becomes accustomed to it.
Ecstatic at Siegfried having let down his guard, Lunalu writhes in glorious excitement.
Lyria: Teehee, Lunalu, you seem to be having so much fun lately. I hope your sketch is coming along all right.
Lunalu: I suppose you could say I've never drawn anything this satisfying.
Lunalu: What's more, I've become much better at drawing things off the top of my head without an actual model in front of me.
Lunalu: I have to say, I've never improved this fast!
Vyrn: Glad to hear it! Still have to admit I'm a bit creeped out by how you follow Siegfried from the shadows his every waking moment though...
Lunalu: Hey, who are you calling creepy? I prefer the term enthusiastic!
Hm?
Lunalu looks out the window to see heavy drops of water pelting against the glass pane.
Lyria jumps to her feet at the sudden torrential rains.
Lyria: Oh no! (Captain) and Siegfried are training on deck right now!
Lunalu: The two of them deadlocked in battle while drenched in the rain... I must capture this moment for eternity's sake!
Vyrn: Oi! Lunalu! You're gonna be soaking wet if you—
Lunalu: Uwaagh!
Siegfried: Forgive me. Are you okay?
Lunalu: Ngh... It was just a little bump, so I'll be fine—Eek!
Siegfried: Are you hurt anywhere? Do let me know.
Lunalu: Ah, erm, your head... I mean... your face...
Lunalu: (What treachery is this! To hide those stunningly good looks behind that helmet... Oh! Inspiration is striking!)
Siegfried: Hm? Oh, this? (Captain) suggested I take off my helmet when I'm on the Grandcypher.
Siegfried: So I decided to try it out for a day. Does something seem off about me?
Lunalu: Oh no, I'm just... a bit surprised. (Yiiee! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much, (Captain)!)
Lyria: Umm, why don't you two get changed? Wouldn't want to catch a cold now.
Lunalu: H-huh? (I can envision majestic, bulging pecs and finely chiseled abs hidden under unassuming armor... Uugh! Agh! Yes!)
Lyria: Eeek! What's wrong, Lunalu?
Lunalu: Am I dreaming? Aha... Ahaha... Of course... I have to be...
Lyria: Yikes! Lunalu, pull yourself together!
Lunalu: Mm... Mmrgh... Hm? Where am I?
Lunalu: Aah, right. I was so excited about Siegfried getting changed and then...
Lunalu looks around the room and finally comes to grips with the situation.
Lunalu: Teehee, I got to see his heavenly face up close! Agh, I can die happy now! I've never seen anything more perfect!
Lunalu: Oh, can't be fantasizing all day long! I'd better sketch out this memory while it's still fresh in my mind!
Lunalu grabs her brush pen and tries to capture the vivid image in her mind, but her hand immediately falls still.
Lunalu: Hm, this doesn't look right.
Lunalu: Manly yet delicate, equal parts gruff and gentleman...
Lunalu: Scribble, scribble... Guah! This isn't working! I can't get it down on paper!
Lunalu: Scribble, scribble... Argh! No! I want to recreate that miraculous form, but this is utterly devoid of the heavenly aura the man in the flesh exudes!
Lunalu frantically moves from one sketch to another, scrapping her work in each iteration. After the umpteenth time, she listlessly drops the brush pen.
Lunalu: Sigh... Artistic compositions and expressions come to me so naturally, so why do I feel like a fish out of water here?
Devoid of any strength, Lunalu crumbles to the ground and scatters her sketches all over the room when a single one catches her eye.
It was an imaginary recreation of Siegfried's face up close that she managed to whip up the other day.
Lunalu: Humph, what's with this? The real thing is so much closer to perfection.
Lunalu: I can't believe I drew this—it's awful.
Lunalu lets out a dreary laugh as she gazes at each of the sketches spread all over the floor.
Lunalu: So many wild fantasies bursting through my mind, yet I'm an epic failure when it comes to getting them down on paper. Sigh...
Lunalu: I'm sure it's the same with monsters... I mean, I see that as work more than a passion project...
Lunalu: So I never really tried to portray the hidden beauty lying in them.
Lunalu: Aah... I fail hard as a romance artist, and I'd hardly qualify as a monster artist...
Though overtaken by a negative spiral of emotion, Lunalu musters up just enough strength to grab her brush pen.
Vyrn: Oi, Lunalu! Everything okay now?
Siegfried: I'm coming in.
Lunalu: Uwaagh! Oh, yes! Please come in!
Siegfried: Hm, are you all better now? We were all so worried when you suddenly collapsed.
Lunalu: Oh yeah, I feel great now! Couldn't be better in fact! For sure! Definitely!
Lyria: Thank goodness! This might sound surprising, but I've never seen Siegfried more worried.
Lunalu: Huh?
B-but why?
Siegfried: Even the smallest of injuries can be devastating if left untreated.
Lunalu: Oh, I'm so sorry for making you worry!
Vyrn: Hey, what's this?
Whoa! Lyria, come take a look!
Lyria: Vyrn! It's not nice to fish around in Lunalu's belongings!
Oh my...
Vyrn: This is amazing! Hey, hey, Siegfried! You're the star in every one of these drawings!
Lunalu: Eek! S-stop that! No!
Siegfried: Ooh, color me surprised. I can tell you really have a flair for the creative, Lunalu.
Lunalu: Ah... Ugh... I'm... not really that good.
Siegfried: Why do you say that? These look spectacular to me.
Lunalu: But they're far from perfect. It doesn't matter how much time I spend drawing—perfection is always miles ahead of me. I'm just hopeless...
Lunalu: In fact the more I draw and compare my art to reality, I realize that I fail even as a monster artist...
Lunalu: I can't help but wonder: why am I even drawing things in the first place?
Vyrn: You're too hard on yourself, Lunalu! I think everyone would agree that your monster drawings are absolutely breathtaking!
Lyria: Of course! And your drawings of Siegfried are just as good!
Vyrn: No argument there! To be honest I was at first a bit creeped out by how you were following Siegfried everywhere... but now I see that it was all for the sake of good art!
Lyria: So please don't call yourself a failure! The world would be a much sadder place without your wonderful art, Lunalu!
Lunalu: But... But no matter how hard I try, perfection is never within my grasp!
Lunalu: It doesn't matter how much effort I put into polishing my artistic skills! I lack the creative instinct to truly express myself, and that's what matters most!
Siegfried: Hmm... It's never smooth sailing for someone starting out. I learned that the hard way with the sword, and I imagine it's no different with a brush.
Siegfried: But no matter how hard the going gets, no matter how far away you are from utter perfection, and no matter how much you have to endure...
Siegfried: I guarantee you that all the blood, sweat, and tears you've put in so far have not gone to waste. I hope you can at least believe that much.
Lunalu: Oh! (Where have I heard this before...)
Lunalu: (Ah yes, it's all coming back now... Chapter two of Popol Saga! This is one of the most quoted lines!)
Lunalu: (Mikhail is able to keep trying and get past his slump thanks to these words of encouragement from Popol.)
Lunalu: (That's right, Lunalu! You're no different from Mikhail right now! You're the budding flower just waiting to blossom into a genius!)
Lunalu: Erm, thank you! You've just helped me remember something very important!
Lunalu: Perfection has never been within my grasp! What really matters is seeing things through to the end!
Lunalu: I won't give up! I think I can faithfully put onto paper the scenery in my head now!
Siegfried: Seems like you just blew past a bad spell.
Lunalu: That's right! (Captain), I need some time alone in my room; can you keep people from coming in for a while?
Lyria: Wow, what's with the sudden change of heart, Lunalu?
Lunalu: I want the way I feel this very moment, the imagery in my mind, to last forever in a picture-perfect drawing!
Vyrn: We'll do what we can to help! Right, (Captain)?
Surprised at the level of passion and enthusiasm coming from the usually nonchalant Lunalu, (Captain) nods deeply.
Lunalu retreats to her room to complete the drawing.
Lyria later makes a few visits to bring Lunalu food, but the door never opens.
A few days later.
Lyria: Hmm, I hope Lunalu's okay... I don't think she's been eating much.
Siegfried: But she is responding when you knock, right? That's a sure sign she's okay.
Vyrn: Still has me worried though...
Lunalu: Teeheehee... At long last... I've done it!
Lyria: Eeep!
Vyrn: Hyuugh!
Phew, it's just Lunalu! Hey, don't scare us like that!
Lunalu, who spent the past few days cooped up in her room, appears ghastly pale.
Her lack of sleep is evident in the dark shadows that have formed below her eyes, and her fingertips are stained with ink.
Exhausted she may be, but the expression on her face is one of ineffable joy as she gloats of her extraordinary accomplishment.
Lunalu: Mwahaha... Feast your eyes on my masterpiece... I've captured the moment so perfectly...
Vyrn: Ooh, lemme see...
By my apple!
Lyria: W-wow! This is incredible! Take a look at this, Siegfried!
Siegfried: Mhm... The pose is completely different from what I saw a few days ago. I can tell you really poured your heart and soul into it.
The portrait of Siegfried that Lunalu presented to the crew was a huge departure from all her previous sketches of the dashing knight.
Lunalu: This is the first time I've ever drawn anything so close to what I have in mind. This is to me a true work of art.
Vyrn: Yeah, I don't think I've ever been so blown away by a piece of artwork. I'm not so sure the real Siegfried looks that shiny though.
Lyria: You think so? But Siegfried looks sooo cool in it! I'm almost getting butterflies in my stomach just looking at it!
Lunalu: Erm, I want you to have this...
Siegfried: For me?
Lunalu: I was on the brink of giving up my dream. But you made me realize what's really important, so... This is just to say thanks. Sorry if it's a bother...
Siegfried: Haha, you're merely reaping the fruits of your labor, Lunalu. And a gift from you being a bother? Never! I might even hang this on my wall!
Lunalu: Ah... Aah...
Lunalu: Teehee... I, I got to see your precious smile... Aaah! Thank you so—
Lyria: Yikes! Lunalu fainted again!
Vyrn: Oh boy, is she gonna be alright? Hm, looks like she just fell into a nap. Let's leave her be for now.
Siegfried: Right, she definitely needs the rest. I'll carry her to her room.
Vyrn: Sure. I've gotta say though: I don't think I've ever seen anyone sleep with a grin that big on their face.
All it took for Lunalu to turn bright red and suddenly collapse was a brief flash of Siegfried's tender smile.
Lunalu keeps on her gigantic grin throughout the night as her mind drifts to the land of dreams.
