Some days after (Captain)'s crew and the members of μ's join forces, the first-years begin leaving by themselves to do something in secret. Worried about their well-being, (Captain)'s crew and the rest of μ's follow after them, not knowing that Maki and Rin are helping Hanayo go on a secret diet.
It's been a few days since the members of μ's joined forces with (Captain)'s crew.
Today finds everyone having a meal together.
Maki: All right, I'm done eating. Hanayo, Rin, how about you two?
Hanayo: Yeah. I'm done too.
Rin: I'm stuffed!
Maki: Good, then let's head out. Sorry for ducking out early, everyone, but we've got plans.
Without any further explanation, Hanayo, Maki, and Rin promptly leave the restaurant.
Honoka: Those three are going somewhere again today...
Nico: They're up to something.
Nozomi: I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they've been doing this every day for the past couple of days.
Vyrn: They're gone before we can blink, and stay gone until it's super late.
Lyria: Not only that, but they look so tired these days.
Honoka: Yeah. Hanayo doesn't seem hungry lately either, so I'm kind of worried.
Eli: As am I. That's why we're going to follow them.
Eli: We need to find out what exactly they're doing that's so secret. Whatever they're hiding from us...
Eli: It's time to find out. Is everyone ready?
The members of μ's and (Captain)'s crew nod in reply.
Nozomi: I'm sorry about this. I know it's finally your day off, and here we are making you guys tag along with us.
Lyria: Ahaha. Don't worry about it. We're worried about them too.
Umi: If something's wrong, then it's better to deal with it sooner rather than later.
Eli: I agree.
Honoka: Okay, then it's settled! Let's go!
Nico: Hehe, they're not gonna get away from me!
With everyone on board, they make their way outside and begin following after their friends.
After leaving the restaurant, Maki, Rin, and Hanayo head toward their planned destination.
Hanayo: ...!
Rin: What's wrong, Kayo-chin?
Hanayo: I just felt a chill go down my spine...
Maki: Did you catch a cold?
Maki presses her hand to Hanayo's forehead.
Maki: Doesn't seem like it... But if you start feeling unwell, then let me know, okay?
Maki: Your well-being is more important than a diet.
Hanayo: I know, but... I never want to go through that special diet from hell ever again...
Rin: H-hey, Maki and I will help you, so you've got nothing to worry about! Keep your spirits up, Kayo-chin!
Hanayo: Rin... Thank you.
Maki: Sigh.
A heavy sigh escapes Maki's lips as she recalls the start of this whole predicament.
Maki: Coming!
Wait... Hanayo? Rin?
Wait... Hanayo? Rin?
Hanayo: Hngh, hiccup! I... I'm done for...
Rin: You're not done for at all! I've got your back!
Maki opens the door to find Hanayo crying as Rin tries to comfort her.
Maki: What is going on! Why is Hanayo crying?
Rin: Well...
With a meek expression, Rin begins to explain the tragedy that has befallen Hanayo and her body.
Maki: She's having a hard time fitting into her outfit?
Rin: I think so...
Hanayo: Sniff... Sniff sniff...
Maki: So in other words, you gained weight?
Hanayo: Hngh, d-don't say it out loud! Hiccup! Unngh...
Maki: Sigh. And here I was thinking someone was hurt or something. Didn't you learn your lesson the last time you had to go on a diet?
Hanayo: Hngh... I can't help myself when pure white rice exists in this world too!
Hanayo: I just wanted to taste a bit...
Hanayo: Plus we've been moving around a lot in this world even outside of practice, so I thought it'd be okay...
Maki: But now your outfit feels tight, huh?
Hanayo: Unngh...
Maki: Hold on. Rin, haven't you been eating just as much ramen since coming here?
Maki: How are you holding up?
Rin: No problems here! I don't gain weight no matter how much I eat!
Hanayo: Hngh, I wish that was me...
Maki: I agree with you there...
Maki: That aside, if you've put on weight, then that means you've got no choice but to diet, right?
Hanayo: Ungh... I guess... I don't have a choice.
Hanayo: But my rice...
Maki: If you focus on that, you'll never succeed in your diet, Hanayo.
Maki: Besides, shouldn't you be more worried about Umi finding out that you've gained weight?
Umi: You gained weight? Again?
Umi: I suppose we'll just have to put you through the special diet one more time.
Umi: First we'll start with a five-kilometer run. Then after practice, we'll loosen your body with some cooldown exercises.
Umi: Once your body adjusts to that distance, we'll move on to ten-kilometer runs, then fifteen, and so on. We'll increase the distance over time.
Umi: Don't worry. You'll be able to keep up. We'll definitely get you down to our goal of 42.195 kilograms!
Umi: I'll run with you. Let's get good enough to compete in the Honolulu marathon!
Hanayo & Rin: Eek!
Both Hanayo and Rin turn white as sheets at the thought of Umi discovering their predicament.
Rin: Nuh-uh! She can't find out! Or else Kayo-chin is gonna die!
Hanayo: Please, Maki! Don't tell Umi!
Hanayo: I'll d-definitely lose weight, so please!
Maki: It's not like I plan on telling her in the first place.
Hanayo: T-thank you, Maki.
Rin: Phew... Looks like Kayo-chin is gonna survive...
The relief Hanayo and Rin feel is evident on their faces.
Maki: Okay, I know what's going on now, but why did you two come to me?
Maki: If you wanted to keep it a secret, you shouldn't have said anything to me in the first place.
Hanayo: O-oh, about that... I was wondering if you'd help me with my diet.
Maki: Me? Don't you have Rin?
Rin: I'll help, of course! But I've never been on a diet before, so...
Rin: I'm not really sure what to do!
Maki: Oh, so that's the problem.
Hanayo: Please, Maki! Say you'll help me with my diet!
Hanayo: I never want to go on Umi's special diet ever again! That's why I'm begging you!

Rin and Hanayo's tear-filled gazes pierce right into Maki.
Maki: Hngh...
Hanayo & Rin: Maki...
Maki: Okay, okay, fine! I just have to help you, right!
Hanayo: Thank you, Maki!
Rin: With Maki on our side, we can do anything!
Maki: Sigh... I guess I could use a little more training myself, anyway.
Maki: First we should work on your food intake, then plan out some exercise.
Maki: We can worry about the details for food intake later, but let's figure out what to do for exercise.
Maki: If we suddenly start muscle training and running every day, won't Umi and the others find out about your weight gain?
Rin: Hey, Maki? What if we did what (Captain) and the crew do?
Hanayo: What? Do you mean, take on jobs?
Rin: Yeah. (Captain) and everyone get to move a lot when they work, right?
Rin: So if we do what they do, maybe it'll be easy to lose weight.
Rin: And since it's work, there's no skipping out on it either!
Maki: That's actually not a bad idea.
Maki: If we get caught by Umi or the others, we can just tell them we're saving up to buy something and keep them from figuring out what we're doing too.
Hanayo: D-do you really think we can do it though?
Rin: We'll be okay. (Captain) told me there're easy jobs like finding lost kitties and stuff!
Hanayo: Well, if it's something like that, maybe we can do it...
Maki: Then let's go with Rin's idea.
Rin: All right! The Kayo-chin Diet Battle Plan starts now!
Hanayo: Y-yeah! And once I successfully finish the diet, I'll get to eat a lot of rice!
While Rin and Hanayo cheer among themselves, Maki heaves a sigh.
Though a part of her is a little apprehensive, she can't help but smile at this turn of events.
No Extra Exercise: Scene 2
In order to help Hanayo lose weight, the first-years take on an herb-picking job in the mountains. All goes well until they come upon a gigantic boar and run for their lives.
Having parted from (Captain)'s crew and the other μ's members, Maki, Rin, and Hanayo make their way to today's destination.
Hanayo: Hey, Rin? We're supposed to be picking medicinal herbs today, right?
Rin: Yep.
Rin pulls out the notes containing the job's description and shows them to Hanayo and Maki.
The notes detail the special properties and growing locations of each herb.
Maki: Seems like they don't grow in many places.
Hanayo: Yeah, I think we're going to have to go near the top of the mountain to find some.
Rin: Mhm. Guess we're gonna have to walk all over the mountain.
Hanayo: Hey, Rin... I'll definitely lose weight if I walk that much, won't I?
Rin: You bet. That's why I picked this job.
Hanayo: Thank you, Rin! I'll try my best!
Rin: You can do it, Kayo-chin!
Maki: Sigh... Just remember you're not going to lose all the weight immediately.
With a sideways glance at her two excited friends, Maki mutters an unfortunate reality.
They arrive at an area of the mountain written in the notes and begin to search for the requested herbs.
Maki: The herbs are supposed to be here, but I don't see them anywhere...
Hanayo: Uhm, do you think this flower might be it?
Crouching down, they pick the flower Hanayo pointed out and compare it to the special properties of an herb detailed in the notes.
Rin: It's exactly the same! You're amazing, Kayo-chin!
Hanayo: Ehehe...
Maki: That makes one down, one more to go.
Rin: All right! Let's keep going!
As soon as Rin takes a step forward—
Boar: Oink, oink, oink...
First-Years: Huh?
An enormous boar emerges from a nearby thicket.
Hanayo: A... boar?
Boar: ...
First-Years: ...
The boar and the girls stare at one another.
Boar: Oiiiiiink!
But the stalemate is soon broken by the boar's menacing roar.
Hanayo: U-uhm, Rin, Maki... The boar's angry... isn't it?
Rin: I-I think so...
Hanayo: I-is it because... we picked this flower?
Rin: M-maybe? I don't speak boar, so I dunno...
Maki: Why are we still standing here! Stop talking, start running!
Turning on their heels, Hanayo, Rin, and Maki make a mad dash away from the boar.
Boar: Oiiiiink!
The boar gives an especially ferocious roar and chases after them.
Maki: Hang on, why is it following us!
Rin: I don't know! Just run!
Hanayo: Nooooo! Someone help meeeee!
Boar: Oiiiiink!
The girls run as fast as they can away from the chasing boar.
But no matter how fast they go, the boar slowly but surely draws closer.
Hanayo: Pant... Pant...
Rin: Kayo-chin, pick up the pace!
Hanayo: I-I can't! This is the fastest I can go!
Maki: Pant... Pant... Let's try going into the forest over there!
Rin: Wha? Why!
Maki: If we keep running like this, it'll get us eventually!
Maki: But if we hide in the forest, we might lose it!
Rin: Oh, I see!
Hanayo: Y-yeah... Let's do it!
The three of them exchange nods and leave the mountain path, running with everything they've got into the forest.
No Extra Exercise: Scene 3
The first-years escape the boar, only to get lost in the forest. Recalling her previous mountain climbing experience with Umi, Rin suggests climbing to the top of the mountain so they can find their way back. None of them expect the surprises that await up there.
Fortunately, Maki's plan works and the three of them manage to shake off the boar.
But now they find themselves completely lost in the middle of the forest.
Rin: Where in the world are weee!
Maki: Calm down, Rin!
Rin: B-but we don't know where we are! How are we ever gonna get back!
Maki: We'll figure that out later! Panicking now won't help us, right?
Hanayo: I'm s-sorry... This is all because I couldn't run any faster...
Rin: This isn't your fault, Kayo-chin! It's all that boar's!
Maki: Rin's right. More importantly, are you okay, Hanayo? Can you walk?
Hanayo: Y-yeah. Since we got some rest, I'm fine now. Thanks for worrying about me, you guys.
Maki: W-w-we're friends, so of course we're going to worry!
Rin: Maki, your face is all red!
Maki: Be quiet, Rin!
Hanayo: Ahaha... What do we do now though?
The three of them look around, but they find only trees surrounding them on all sides.
Maki: There's got to be a way to get back...
Rin: Let's go to the top of the mountain!
Hanayo: What are you talking about, Rin?
Maki: The top? Why?
Rin: We won't get lost on our way to the top!
Rin: And the closer we get to the top, the easier it'll be to see where we are and find our way back!
Maki: Not a bad plan. Actually it makes a lot of sense.
Hanayo: You're amazing, Rin. I'd have never thought of doing that.
Rin: I learned it from Umi and Nozomi when we went mountain climbing during our training camp!
Rin: If they hadn't known to do that, I don't think we would have made it back...
Hanayo: Wait, you went mountain climbing during training camp?
Rin: Yeah.
Rin: Umi said that "conquering the mountain" would help us write a new song, so she kind of dragged me along...
Rin: It was super tough... I don't think I'll ever go mountain climbing with Umi again...
Maki: Sounds a bit traumatic to me...
Hanayo: Ahaha...
Maki: Let's hope this goes a little better than that experience.
The other two nod, and they begin to head for the top of the mountain.
Maki, Rin, and Hanayo steadily make their way toward the top of the mountain.
As they walk, however, Maki notices a plant near her feet and suddenly stops.
Maki: Wait a second, guys.
Hanayo: Maki, is something wrong?
Maki: I think this plant might be...
Maki hurriedly pulls out the notes and compares the recorded characteristics with the plant at her feet.
Hanayo: Oh! Is that the other medicinal herb we were looking for?
Maki: Looks like it is.
Rin: So if we pick this, we're done with the job?
Maki: Yeah. This makes all the herbs we need.
Hanayo: Then all we have to do now is find a way back to everyone!
Maki: Hmm... Since we found these herbs growing here, that must mean we're around this location.
Maki: So the way back would be...
Boar: Oiiiiink!
The sound of falling trees draws closer and closer from somewhere behind them.
In the midst of the noise, the boar's roars can be heard.
Hanayo: Hey, you guys... Are you hearing what I'm hearing?
Rin: I-it's getting closer, right? It's really after us, isn't it?
Maki: You've got to be kidding me!
Boar: Oiiiiink!
Rin: W-we gotta make a run for the top!
Maki and Hanayo nod, and the girls waste no time in taking off.
Rin: Pant... Pant... We... made it... to the top... Huh?
Rin: Wh-why are you guys here!
Much to their surprise, they find (Captain)'s crew and the other μ's members at the top of the mountain.
Nico: Isn't it obvious? We were following y—
Boar: Oiiiiink!
Rin: Okay, talk later! We gotta run!
Vyrn: Run? The heck are you talkin' about?
Maki: Don't ask me why, but we're being chased by a boar right now!
Nozomi: A boar? What's so scary about a boar?
Boar: Oink, oink, oink!
Honoka: Whoa... That's a big boar...
Eli: K-khorosho...
Umi: Don't just stand there, Eli, Honoka!
Kotori: Yeah! We need to run...
Nozomi: Everyone, stop! Don't move!
Kotori: Nozomi?
Umi: W-what's wrong?
Nozomi: We're going to provoke the boar if we scream and run away.
Nozomi: If we do that and the boar sees us as an enemy, well... We're going to be in trouble.
Honoka: Trouble?
Nozomi: A boar's sense of smell is strong, so it'd be able to track us forever.
Nozomi: That's why the best thing is to lay low, okay?
Hanayo: I'm sorry, Nozomi.
Rin: We already made it mad!
Nozomi: Oh. So it was chasing after you for a reason.
Maki: Hey, you're awfully calm about this—
Boar: Oiiiiink!
The boar swoops in with a loud roar and sets its sights on (Captain) and company.
Nico: Now what!
Nozomi: I guess we've got no choice but to drive it back. You with me, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods, and raising a sword, steps in front of the μ's members.
Nozomi: Now, now. We can't leave everything to (Captain), can we? Let's go, girls!
Maki: Ahhh, geez! I hope you know what you're doing!
No Extra Exercise: Scene 4
With the boar driven away, the other members of μ's confront the first-years about what they've been doing. Maki realizes there's no point in hiding their motive anymore and reveals that Hanayo is on a secret diet. Luckily, Umi's reaction is not what they expect, and they can all put this incident behind them.
With their combined strengths, the boar is driven away by μ's and the crew.
Maki: Now that that's taken care of, can someone explain to me what you're all doing here?
Honoka: We were worried about you three!
Hanayo: What? Worried?
Nozomi: Lately you three have been leaving on your own every day. Going somewhere, doing something...
Nozomi: Then you come back late, looking extremely tired.
Nico: You guys dodge the question when we ask what you're doing too.
Nozomi: Well, you get the picture. It'd be more strange for us not to worry.
Eli: So you see... We followed you even though we knew it was wrong.
Eli: We just wanted to know what it is that you're doing all by yourselves.
Eli: What it is you're doing that you can't even tell us about.
Nozomi: I have to admit we lost track of you all halfway though...
Vyrn: Yep... So we figured we could find you guys if we went up to the top of the mountain.
Nico: Then you guys showed up with that boar in tow, and here we are.
Hanayo: O-oh...
Eli: With that out of the way, do you think you can finally tell us what's going on? Hanayo, Maki, Rin.
Eli: Why have you been sneaking off?
Eli: Or rather, what is it you're hiding?
Rin and Hanayo fidget, unsure of what to do under everyone's intense gazes.
Glancing between those two and everyone else, Maki eventually shrugs her shoulders and heaves a heavy sigh.
Maki: It's not like we're doing anything that serious. Hanayo's on a diet.
Maki: Rin and I are helping her. That's it.
Hanayo: M-Maki!
Rin: Maki, you meanie! You said you wouldn't tell!
Maki: I don't think we really have a choice at this point. Just come clean.
Hanayo: Hngh... But...
With great fear and trepidation, Hanayo peeks over at Umi.
The smile on Umi's face is eerily unnatural.
Umi: Hanayo... Are you saying you gained weight?
Hanayo: Eeeek! I-I'm sorry!
Vyrn: H-hey, why is she shaking?
Kotori: Ahaha... The special diet Umi made for her before was really tough.
Kotori: And Umi made sure she still did regular practice with us on top of it...
Vyrn: Oh, I get it. She wanted to avoid that.
Maki: Right.
Lyria: Ahaha...
Eli: Sigh... In other words, you guys snuck off to lose the weight so Umi wouldn't find out.
Eli: That's it, right?
Maki: Yeah. That's it.
Vyrn: Say, did she really gain weight?
Vyrn: Because she doesn't look any different to me.
Lyria: Me too. Actually, I even think she looks a bit more fit than before.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Hanayo: Hngh... But recently... My outfit feels tighter...
Umi: Oh, is that the problem? I think I get it now...
Umi: Hanayo, you didn't gain weight. Unhealthy weight, anyway.
Hanayo: W-what? But my clothes...
Umi: There are other causes for clothes to feel tight, you know.
Umi: Like when your body grows, or gets toned from training.
Umi: We've been very busy since we came to this world, helping (Captain) and the crew, in addition to our regular practice.
Umi: With all that moving, it's only natural for your body to gain muscle.
Umi: In other words, your outfit feeling tight is proof that you've been working hard.
Hanayo: So... I didn't... get fat?
Umi: You didn't. Your movements are actually sharper than ever.
Eli: Now that you mention it, even during the more fast-paced dances, she's not falling over as much.
Hanayo: I guess I also don't feel tired as easily anymore...
Umi: That's more proof.
Umi: Anyway, Kotori or I would have noticed if you'd gained weight.
Umi: You have nothing to worry about.
Hanayo: Hngh, thank goodness! I'm so relieved...
Rin: Isn't that great, Kayo-chin! This means you can eat as much white rice as you want!
Hanayo: Yeah. Thank you, Rin.
Hanayo breathes a sigh of relief as tears slide down her cheeks.
Maki: Sigh... I guess it's okay, but if you eat too much, you really will gain weight.

Hanayo: R-right... I'll be careful.
Nozomi: Hehe, guess this means everything's solved.
Eli: I suppose so. In that case, let's start heading back.
Maki: Sure. We're done with our tasks anyway.
Without further ado, they begin their walk back to town.
Maki: Sigh... I'm exhausted.
Hanayo: Ahaha. I'm sorry, Maki. We didn't mean to get you mixed up in our mistake.
Rin: Sorry...
Maki: There's no need to apologize. I'm tired, but... it's not like I'm upset.
Maki: Besides, I didn't dislike being relied on by you guys.
Rin: Maki's so shy!

Honoka's Voice: What are you three doing? We're gonna leave you behind!
Rin: We're coming!
Rin: C'mon, let's go, Kayo-chin, Maki!

Rin grasps Maki and Hanayo's hands and pulls her friends toward where (Captain) and company are waiting.
Despite being in a different world, the bond between them remains as strong as ever.
As for how their bond will change during their journey through the sky...
