Lonesome Dragoness - Chapter 3: Dragoness in Shambles - Episode 1

(Captain) and the others return to the classroom, where Hanna reports that monoliths have appeared in the town. The other students criticize Grea for not using her power sooner, and upon hearing them, Grea leaves the room.

The aberrations vanish when the core monolith is destroyed.
(Captain) and company are stunned at the way in which they were able to save themselves.
Lyria: Are we safe?
Vyrn: Uh-huh...
Grea: We should go back to the classroom building for now. We have to care for the people we rescued.
Io: Yeah. There will be time to think through all this stuff later.
(Captain) and the others nod in agreement and then head toward the classroom building.
When (Captain) and the others enter the classroom building, it seems more crowded than before.
Vyrn: Is it just me, or are there more people here?
Io: Those are people from the town, aren't they? Why are—why are there townspeople here?
Lyria: I'm not sure. But I have a bad feeling about this.
Grea: Let's go see Class President Hanna first. We should be able to find out what's happening that way.
Vyrn: Okay.
Vyrn: But before that, we should let the students we rescued take a little break.
Grea: Ah, yeah. That's right.
(Captain) and the others attend to the students they rescued and then begin to search for Hanna.
Grea: Class President!
Hanna: Grea! Everyone! You're safe!
Grea: Yeah. We all managed to get away okay. But why are all these people from town here anyway?
Hanna: That—
Grea: Did something happen in town?
Hanna: Yes. Yes. For some reason there were monoliths all over town.
Vyrn: You gotta be kidding!
Hanna: No, this is no time for jokes. The horde of monsters from the monoliths laid waste to the town.
Hanna: Fortunately, a number of teachers were in town, so it wasn't completely annihilated.
Grea: Wait a sec! Annihilated?
Hanna: The only townspeople who were accounted for are the ones here. All of the others are most likely—
Vyrn: What!
Lyria: But...
Hanna: We're all alone now. It's not possible to call anyone outside for support.
(Captain) and the others are flummoxed when they hear the scale of destruction from Hanna.
Ms. Miranda: We're back!
Ms. Miranda: Well, tickle me pink! If it's not (Captain) and the gang!
Lyria: Mr. Bertrand and Ms. Miranda?
Mr. Bertrand: Haha, it's a relief to see that you're well.
Ms. Miranda: It sure is. We were worried the whole time.
Ms. Miranda: You'd better not worry me anymore, kiddos.
Vyrn: You teachers were okay!
Mr. Bertrand: Yes, we're well. Somehow this old body of mine held out. Haha!
Hanna: Welcome back. How was the investigation in town?
Ms. Miranda: Hoo-boy! Things sure aren't looking good!
Mr. Bertrand: Though we're not sure of why, there were many monoliths identical to those on campus.
Hanna: Monoliths?
Mr. Bertrand: Yes.
Grea: I'd actually like to talk to you about that.
Grea explains that the captured people seem to have been turned into monoliths.
And that when the core monolith was destroyed, the aberrations disappeared.
Hanna: People turning into monoliths? But that's—
Ms. Miranda: Oooh, I getcha!
Ms. Miranda: That means that the monsters are using the core monoliths to enter our world.
Ms. Miranda: Those other monoliths are probably teleporty things between each other then.
Mr. Bertrand: Haha, yes, that's correct.
Mr. Bertrand: We should surmise the people inside the monoliths were used as intermediaries when the monoliths were created.
Ms. Miranda: Yepper. And the monsters are probably slurping down the magic of the people inside.
Mr. Bertrand: Hm... But then we would have to assume that someone made use of shadow magic—
Mr. Bertrand: No, forbidden shadow magic, and we're now seeing the results.
Ms. Miranda: I sure don't wanna think about that, but you're probably just about right there.
Mr. Bertrand: Humph. But in that case, there is a way to respond to this all.
Ms. Miranda: You got it! We'll find a way out of this pickle!
Ms. Miranda: Teehee, we know so much thanks to you, (Captain). I'm, like, so grateful!
Lyria: Um, what do you mean? I don't understand at all.
Mr. Bertrand: The simple explanation is that the core monoliths are serving as a door between those monsters' world and ours.
Mr. Bertrand: One can conjecture that unless that door is destroyed, countless monsters will appear from that world.
Mr. Bertrand: The smaller monoliths—the ones with people inside—are likely gates that allow those monsters to teleport from one another within our world.
Mr. Bertrand: So long as there are monoliths, the monsters will be able to use them to teleport instantly.
Mr. Bertrand: In regard to the monsters disappearing after the core monolith was destroyed—
Mr. Bertrand: The core monoliths must have served as base stations, while the human-based monoliths served as nodes.
Mr. Bertrand: If those monsters have been using the power of the core monoliths to appear in our world, that would explain a number of phenomena.
Vyrn: So what you're saying is if we bust all the core ones, everything will be okay?
Ms. Miranda: Right-a-rooney! That's more or less it, isn't it, Mr. Bertrand?
Mr. Bertrand: In all probability. It's unclear whether everything will be solved, but it's certain that we'll reduce their ability to fight.
Vyrn: Oh, okay! We already broke the one in the quad. That means what's left is the—
Hanna: The core monolith of amplification in the clock tower.
Io: Then the next thing we need to think about is how to destroy the core monolith.
Vyrn: We really oughta borrow that crazy power of Pianista there again.
Grea: Yeah, I'll help out!
The students burst into a commotion when they hear those words.
Each student's eyes seem to be filled with a different emotion, but they all come to rest on Grea.
Boy 1: They make core monoliths out of special minerals that cancel physical and magical attacks.
Boy 2: Dragon power is as wild as they say, isn't it?
Girl 1: If she would've just tried in the first place, things wouldn't be like this now.
Girl 2: Yeah, if she used her power from the start, none of this would have—
Grea: ...!
Vyrn: What is it?
Grea: ...
Grea lowers her head and runs out of the classroom in silence.
Lyria: Grea!
Io: You guys! Why did you do that?
Hanna: How could you all be so selfish?
Hanna: Your woulda, coulda, shouldas won't do a thing to fix this situation.
Hanna: What we need now isn't a bunch of head-in-the-clouds talk. It's a way to overcome this situation. Do you not agree!
The students fall silent as Hanna's angry voice reverberates through the classroom.
Lyria: Um, I'll go look for Grea.
Vyrn: Hey, wait up, Lyria. I'm going with you!
Io: And me too!
Hanna: It might not be my place to ask you this, but please take good care of Grea.
Mr. Bertrand: If the expression on Grea's face when she was chatting with you skyfarers is any indication, it seems like she's found a good group of friends.
Mr. Bertrand: Please take care of yourselves.
The crew members nod in agreement with the class president and teacher, and they then leave the classroom.
They set foot from the school building, which now seems not half as lively as earlier.
