Together in Song - Chapter 6: Reversing the Distortion - Episode 3

Niyon requests the orchestra's help in order to save Perfetto Island. Meanwhile back on the island, Caro is captured by the artist who tells him that paintings have all appeared distorted to him ever since he lost his wife. Realizing that the paintings started turning into monsters because he and the rest of the islanders started to view them as harmful, Caro begins acting strangely.

Meanwhile Nobiyo and Narita enjoy a relaxing break in a restaurant on an island elsewhere.
Narita: That was a fine performance, if I do say so myself. There's still a day before our next concert, so let's get some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
Nobiyo: You're right. We've had a packed schedule ever since that relief concert.
Nobiyo: You know, I noticed this restaurant has a piano. Why don't you play us a tune?
Narita: I-I can't do that. I'm going to get in trouble if I touch the shop's property without asking.
Niyon: Narita.
Narita: Niyon! What brings you to this island?
Niyon: We need your help. Something terrible is happening on Perfetto Island.
Narita: I'm sorry. You're going to have to be more specific...
Niyon: The melody of the island's primal beast is in need of tuning. But my music alone isn't enough.
Niyon: I'd like your orchestra to accompany my harp.
Nobiyo: Well, we can't exactly refuse a request from one of the Eternals.
Nobiyo: We'll leave immediately! Narita, you gather all the people who can go.
Narita: Of course!
(Captain) and the crew defeat the monsters, but the islanders seize the opportunity to take Caro captive.
Elta: L-let Caro go! He never intended for any of this to happen!
Artist: Those monsters you just fought spawned from his creations. How can you claim he's not behind all of this?
The artist pulls a knife from his pocket and presses the blade to Caro's throat, his hand trembling slightly.
Artist: Tell your monster friends to withdraw this instant. Cooperate, and we'll spare your life.
Caro: Haha... I can tell you're not used to threatening people.
Caro: Please don't point that dangerous thing at me. What exactly do you plan to do if I really start rampaging?
Artist: Cool as a cucumber, aren't you? I don't think you understand the situation you're in.
Vyrn: You're the ones who don't understand the situation!
Lyria: Caro is actually Arte! He can't control his power anymore, so it's making his creations turn into monsters!
Artist: Arte? What are you going on about?
Caro: Guess I can't hide it any longer... What a disaster...
Caro looks up at the man with a pleading expression on his face.
Caro: Tell me... Is it impossible for a guardian deity to become one of the islanders, no matter how hard he pretends to be a person?
Caro: I've never left this island, and yet I'm still an outsider? Is that why I'm unable to understand how you feel?
Caro: Was your guardian Arte—was art itself—truly useless in the end?
Artist: Humph... You've lost your mind.
Artist: If you want me to answer your questions, first answer mine!
Artist: I've always appreciated art out of love and respect for Arte.
Artist: But art stole something precious from me. The moment I saw my wife's tattered painting, I was filled with nothing but regret...
Artist: To hell with Arte... To hell with art...
Artist: If it wasn't for them, our family could have made it through this together!
Caro: I'm so sorry... If it hadn't been for that painting...
Artist: I just can't enjoy art anymore. Sometimes when I see paintings these days, they appear warped and distorted...
Artist: And now they're even turning into monsters... Your magic is tearing our hearts to pieces!
Caro: They look... distorted? Monsters... Distortion...
Caro: Oh... I see... So that's what this is all about...
Weak with exhaustion, Caro collapses against the artist.
Elta: Caro! Stay with us!
Monsters: ...!
Musician: Look out! Another one turned into a monster!
Artist: Enough! Keep this up and there'll be hell to pay!
Caro: You've got it all wrong... You're the ones who are causing the paintings to turn into monsters...
Artist: Huh? We're causing this?
Caro: You thought of the paintings as the source of your misfortune, so they started to look like monsters to you. And when I came to believe it too, they actually turned into monsters...
Caro: I mean... If my creations hurt others, doesn't that make them just as bad as monsters?
Caro: Concerts are worthless... I'd rather just have a hot meal...
Artist: ...!
Caro's strange demeanor strikes fear into the man's heart. He instinctively tosses Caro away and steps backward.
Selfira: Hey... That sounded awfully familiar...
Elta: That's what that man said to you...
Caro: I want to sleep peacefully... I don't want to fear the rain...
Vyrn: Hey, what's wrong with him? He's just repeating stuff the islanders have said before.
Elta: W-well, let's go over to him! They've let him go, so...
