Game and Match

Partnering up with Lowain for the tournament, Tyre proceeds to practice table tennis under the guidance of Kaz, who suggests wearing a yukata for proper posture during play. Tyre dons his new attire and readies himself for the tournament.

Tyre, under Yaia and other crew members' urging, enters a table tennis tournament with Lowain as his partner.
Eager to practice, the group heads to the beach court.
Yaia: Hey, Tyre? What is table tennis exactly?
Tyre: Unfortunately, this is the first time I've even heard of the sport, so I'm not sure.
Lowain: For real? I mean, I only got my first taste of it recently, right here on 'Guste.
Io: I think I saw people playing it at a Levin hot spring resort once.
Alec: Huh... If people play it at hot springs, then it's probably a pretty popular sport, right?
Lowain: Who knows? Anyway, I'll run you through the basics, Ty. Teach you how to firmly grasp a racket—I know that much at least!
Tyre: I would be honored to apprentice under your guidance, Lowain! Thank you very much!
Lowain: H'okay! You're in good hands! We'll get you squared up for some fun in the sun!
One tutoring session later, Tyre and Lowain play a practice match against Alec and Syr.
Syr: Wahoo! We wooon!
Alec: Come on, I know this is just practice, but you can do better than that!
Tyre: To lose fair and square to you both... Truly your forms were perfect!
Alec: Sigh... The compliment's nice and all, but we should really be focusing on how to impress Vira when it's time for the real deal...
Tyre: Ah! I am ashamed. To squander this opportunity when all of you are supporting me...
Tyre: At this rate I might fail to proceed beyond the first match.
Io: If you can't win against Alec and Syr, well... Anyone have any ideas?
Lowain: Can't be our teamwork. Thanks to my bros behind the stove, me and Ty are two bodies, one soul.
Lowain: Maybe all my time holding a knife has messed with my grip on the racket?
Lowain: Sure would be nice if someone out there with the know-how could come teach us a thing or two.
Yaia: Guys! Guess what! Kaz is super good at table tennis!
Lily: Ehehe, we asked him to come help!
Tyre: Incredible! To master not only fishing and cooking, but also table tennis...
Kaz: Hahaha... I played a long time ago and haven't really played since. I'm not sure I'll be much help.
As Kaz gazes nostalgically at the court, Tyre quickly walks up to the older man and bows his head.
Tyre: I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give!
Tyre: I refuse to let down my friends and companions, or so help my honor as a knight!
Kaz: A straightforward fellow, huh? And passionate like the rest of my apprentices.
Kaz: Guess I better get my head in the game and give you all I've got.
Tyre: Thank you very much! Please don't hold back!
Tyre trains under Kaz's watchful eye, and after a while, he and Lowain jump into the court for another round against Alec and Syr.
Tyre: Another complete defeat...
Alec: I feel like you lasted longer this time? If that's any consolation...
Syr: Hmm, Tyre's reflexes are better than ours, so I'm not sure what's wrong.
Syr: Do you know what's up, Kaz?
Kaz: Well, he is pretty fit, and his hits are making it past the net.
Kaz: But his swings are off. At first I thought he was using too much power, but it's something else.
Tyre: My swings? Are you referring to my form?
Kaz: Yeah, that. If your form's wrong, you won't hit the ball right.
Kaz: I've got an idea though. Sit tight, and I'll be right back.
Tyre: O-okay!
Kaz: Sorry about the wait. Put this on and see how it feels.
Tyre: Is this... a yukata?
Yaia: New clothes! But why?
Kaz: If you've got a yukata on and you don't move the right way, the bottom'll get rustled up.
Tyre: I see. Minimize unnecessary movement, and the yukata will remain pristine!
Tyre: Very well! This yukata shall show me the way!
Kaz: Hahaha, you caught on quick! Good. Keep your wits and your passion about you, and you might just win!
Tyre: Kaz, you are too kind!
Lowain: Costume upgrade and training montage, let's go!
Tyre changes into the yukata and throws himself back to practice under Kaz's guidance. Slowly, but surely, his skills improve.
By the end of the day, Tyre and Lowain can beat not only Alec and Syr, but also Tomoi and Elsam.
Alec: Wow, that smash nailed Tomoi in the forehead!
Syr: You moved like crazy, but your yukata's still in perfect shape. That was amazing, Tyre!
Lowain: From zero to hero! Nobody's gonna stand a chance against us now.
Tyre: Thank you for your kind words! If it's not too much trouble, could we go for another round?
Yaia: You can do it, Tyre! I'll make fried rice if you get hungry!
Lily: I can help too! I'll cool you down!
Tyre: Ah... So much consideration and generosity! I must work harder than ever before!
The group assists Tyre until the sun dips below the horizon and the ball isn't visible any longer.
Their warm cheers linger long after the beach empties for the night.
Io: Today's the big day.
Tyre: And what a fine one too! The sun is bright and shining!
Lowain: Heck yeah! Nonstop train to victory starts now, woot woot!
Tyre: To victory and beyond!
While Tyre and Lowain gather their energy for the matches ahead, Yaia and the rest of the group prepare to implement the next part of their plan.
Yaia: Me and Lily will go get Vira!
Lily: Go, go! She'll see how cool Tyre is!
Alec: Hehe, that racket technique he worked so hard on will blow her and the ball away.
Syr: We definitely can't let all that hard work go to waste. Let's hurry!
They rush away, determined to find Vira as soon as possible.

Game and Match: Scene 2

On the day of the tournament, Tyre and Lowain win their first match, only to find out that their next opponents are Vira and Katalina. Tyre begins to panic, but encouraging words from his friends help him compose himself. Thankful for his friends' support, Tyre decides to face his match against Vira with all that he has.

Lyria: The tournament hasn't even started yet, and it's already this lively! Isn't it amazing, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Hehe, you're gonna do great out there, (Captain)! You too, Lyria!
Gran is the Main Character

Yaia: Big Brother! Have you seen Vira?
Djeeta is the Main Character

Yaia: Big Sister! Have you seen Vira?
Lyria: Vira? I don't think I've seen her today. (Captain) probably hasn't either.
Yaia: Oh... Me and Lily and some other friends are looking for her, but we can't find her.
Vyrn: Considerin' people are flooding the area 'cause of the table tennis matches, I ain't surprised.
Lyria: That's a good point. We can help you search for her after the tournament ends, Yaia!
Yaia: But by then it'll be too late. What should I do...
Before (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn can ask Yaia what the fuss is about, Elsam and Tomoi burst onto the scene.
Tomoi: Woot! We've got your back! Team Lowain Bros minus Lowain will buy you time!
Elsam: Woot! The audience won't know what hit 'em when we rock our table tennis magic!
Yaia: Thank you! I'll grab Lily and do one more search!
Lyria: Oh, Yaia, be careful! Don't run too fast!
Vyrn: Sheesh... I wonder why she needs Vira so badly?
Elsam: That's 'cause the "Make Vira Go Gaga over Someone Other Than Katalina" plan won't work without—
Tomoi: Whoa, hold up! Shhh! We don't wanna embarrass Ty, remember?
Elsam: Oh. Right. Uh, can you guys do me a favor and forget you heard anything?
Tomoi: It's about time for us to shine on the main stage anyway! See ya!
Vyrn: Wha? Hey! Ugh, there they go. Guess this means they're competing too. You can't lose to 'em, ya hear me, (Captain)?
(Captain) gives a confident nod to Vyrn and a thumbs-up to Lyria.
For their first match, Elsam and Tomoi enter with the intent to keep their promise and stall for time. However, their opponents immediately throw a wrench into the plan.
Elsam: Bweh!
Tomoi: Euagh!
Tomoi: This is, like, totally tougher in a different way than I thought it'd be...
Elsam: Disaster with a capital 'D'! What are we gonna do about the plan?
Tomoi: I don't think there's anything else we can do, bro...
Completely defeated, the two cower before the might of their opponents.
Tyre: Our first match resulted in victory!
Tyre: With our bodies warmed up, we should be prepared for the rest of the day. Let us keep the momentum going, Lowain!
Lowain: I like the energy you've got going, but those peeps we just faced were more about partying than winning, y'know? Don't let your guard down next match!
Tyre: Right! Every competition will have its formidable opponents! I shall proceed with the utmost vigilance!
Tyre: Ah! The staff just called for us. Let us make haste for the court!
Tyre and Lowain enter the arena, ready to give their all, but the appearance of their opponents stops them dead in their tracks.
Vira: Oh my. So you two are our next opponents.
Katalina: I have to admit, I didn't expect you would be next after Elsam and Tomoi.
Tyre: ...!
Lowain: No way... Why are Vira and Katalina here?
Vira: Why, that's because I invited Katalina to join this competition with me.
The invitation took place when Vira prevented Katalina from entering the kitchen and dragged her away.
Katalina: So what did you want to talk about?
Vira: Well...
Having not thought of an excuse for pulling Katalina away, Vira quickly scanned the area and noticed the poster advertising the tournament.
Vira: It's about that poster over there. Would you like to enter the table tennis tournament with me?
Katalina: You want to participate in a table tennis tournament?
Vira: Yes! As it is a doubles tournament, I was thinking my partner could be no one other than you.
Katalina: Hmm... I suppose a bit of sport during a vacation could be nice. Very well, I'll enter with you.
Vira: If you must know the reason why I invited her in the first place... Let's just say I did it in an effort to save all our lives.
Lowain: (Uh-oh... This is Bahamut levels of bad for Ty! What do we do?)
Lowain: Hey, Ty...
Tyre: V-V-V-V-Vi...
Lowain: Yikes! Bro, you gotta keep it together!
Io: I hope we've got a warranty on Tyre, because I think he just broke!
Syr: Gotta say, I didn't see this twist coming.
Io: I'll say! The plan totally backfired, and now he's looking like the opposite of cool!
Korwa: That's putting it lightly... I think we just did him the opposite of a favor with our scheme.
Yaia: Everything will be okay! Because Tyre is really cool!
Yaia: I'm going to cheer for him as much as I can!
Yaia: Tyre, Tyre, let's go, Tyre!
Korwa: Well, who am I to doubt the one who knows Tyre the best? Let me join in!
Alec: Count me in too! Not like there's much else we can do now besides cheer, right?
Tyre: (Ah! That was Yaia and the others right now, wasn't it?)
Yaia: I believe in you! You can do it, Tyre!
Tyre: (They're supporting me so earnestly, and what am I doing?)
Slapping himself on the cheeks, Tyre shakes his head and calms down.
Tyre: (A true knight would never let his friends down!)
Tyre: (Giving up is not an option—not if I am to honor the hard work and effort of everyone who helped me train!)
Tyre: (I must put my best foot forward, even against Vira!)
Tyre: Vira! Katalina! Let us determine this fair and square, with nothing held back!
Vira: I can't say I dislike that look in your eyes, but...
Vira: I'm afraid the results of this match are already determined. Victory will be mine and Katalina's, and nothing you can do will stop us.
Tyre and Vira stare at one another from opposite sides of a battlefield.
The intensity of the situation is not lost on everyone watching, and the audience waits with bated breath for the match to begin.

Game and Match: Scene 3

Tyre and Lowain lose against Vira and Katalina, but with no regrets. That night, Vira tells Tyre how impressed she was by his diligence at the tournament. In return, Tyre says he is happy to see Vira more relaxed now compared to when she was lord commander. After that, Tyre and company have a snow cone party and enjoy the evening in good cheer.

Night falls over Auguste, and peace reigns throughout the beach house.
In one corner, Lowain sits sprawled out, ashen and drained of life.
Elsam: Ahhhh! Lowain, you're a dude amongst dudes!
Tomoi: Man, that was some match though. Even if Katalina didn't fall for us, we sure fell for her all over again...
Korwa: Just a little bit more, and you might've really won too.
Syr: Yeah! That whole match was so close. I had no idea how it was going to end.
Alec: If only Tyre managed to return that last hit Vira smacked his way...
Korwa: Still, it's good that he doesn't seem let down by the loss. When life gives you lemons, right?
Korwa looks over in Tyre's direction. Tyre, giddy and daydreaming about the match that ended hours ago, remains oblivious to her gaze.
Tyre: (The intensity of their strikes, the perfect coordination between them...)
Tyre: (I have so much to learn from Vira and Katalina!)
Tyre: Though I was defeated in the end, I'm proud to have faced them with everything I had!
Vira: It was indeed a good match.
Tyre: It really was...
Tyre: ...!
Tyre: Howaah! V-V-Vira?
Tyre nearly leaps out of his skin in surprise at Vira's sudden appearance. Unperturbed, Vira continues speaking.
Vira: I couldn't let my guard down for a moment. Honestly, it was hard to believe you were a beginner.
Vira: Your diligence and tenacity in training certainly paid off.
Tyre: Th-thank you very much! I'm truly honored to receive such praise!
Tyre: However, a beginner is still a beginner. There is quite a lot of room for improvement!
Tyre: I swear pride shall not blind me. I'll continue to hone my skills for next year!
Vira: Oh? I look forward to seeing what you're capable of then.
Tyre: ...
Vira: Is something the matter, Tyre?
Tyre: Forgive me for sounding presumptuous... But I am relieved to see you like this.
Vira: What? What do you mean?
Tyre: When you were lord commander, you were always detached... Strict and distant, I suppose.
Tyre: Though I was merely a student of the academy, I must confess I was worried for the burdens you shouldered.
Tyre: Being able to see you relaxed and smiling now puts my heart at ease and fills me with joy, as conceited as that might sound.
Vira: Hehe, you needn't have concerned yourself so much.
Vira: I can see I wasn't the best leader I could have been, if my behavior was a cause for concern.
Tyre: N-not at all! You were, in fact, a leader beyond perfection!
Tyre: Not that you aren't currently a figure whom I admire greatly! Um...
Vira: Hehe, I suppose there's no reason for me to argue against that. I'll take your word for it.
Tyre: R-right! Thank you very much!
Yaia: Hehe! Tyre and Vira are getting along! I'm so happy for them.
Lily: Me too! Everything's better when we're all friends!
Lily: But... why do you look sad? Are you okay?
Yaia: What? N-no, I'm not sad!
Yaia: I'm really, super happy Tyre and Vira are friends.
Lily: Ehehe, it's okay. Being sad is fine, I think.
Yaia: Well... I guess I am a little sad.
Lily: I know exactly how to cheer you up! I'll invite everyone to a snow cone party!
Yaia: Okay! Ah, wait for me!
Gran is the Main Character

Yaia: Big Brother! Lyria! Vyrn! Katalina! Let's have a snow cone party with everyone!
Djeeta is the Main Character

Yaia: Big Sister! Lyria! Vyrn! Katalina! Let's have a snow cone party with everyone!
Tyre: A snow cone party... What a wonderful idea! I'd be delighted to join!
Tyre: Please, allow me! I shall shave the ice with everything I've got!
Tyre accepts the invitation from Yaia and Lily with a bright smile and promptly helps them with the necessary preparations.
Though the summer heat pervades even in the evening, the crew keeps cool with the cold treats and spends the last few hours of the day in relaxed cheer.
