Resonate, Grynoth

Preparations are underway for the operation to rescue Cassius and Isaac. For Vaseraga, Mahira and the Society scientists create a new armor installed with a mechanism to prevent Grynoth from taking control. A quick test with the new armor proves that Vaseraga can fight without going berserk, but at the cost of lower resonance with Grynoth. They conclude that further testing and data collection is necessary.

A year has passed since Isaac and Cassius left for the moon. A year of silence and macabre speculation.
But the drought of news is broken when a distress signal reaches (Captain)'s crew.
Isaac: Cassius's brain has been removed. They wanted to know how he had changed. They wanted information about the blue-haired girl.
Isaac: He was a sample; a living experiment to observe what kind of influence living in the skies has on moondwellers.
Isaac: It hurts so much. I... I can't stand it. Someone... Anyone... Save—
Everyone has gathered at the base to make rescue plans. With no time to waste, Mahira builds through night and day to complete a cosmoship.
Meanwhile, Vaseraga stands alone on the roof, gazing up at the moon in silence.
Vaseraga: ...
Vaseraga: (We're not losing you again. Just hang tight.)
Zeta: That lunk, of course he'd be here...
Slinging open the hatch to the roof, Zeta frowns as she catches sight of her friend mulling quietly by himself.
Zeta: Vaseraga, what're you moping around here for?
Vaseraga: Upcoming field trip's got me antsy.
Zeta: You, antsy? Hope you get those nerves under control when we actually get there.
Vaseraga: You've got nothing to worry about. I know full well what happens when orders are ignored.
Vaseraga: We're going to bring everyone back together. No effort will be spared.
Zeta: Ahaha, yeah? I barely recognize you, Vaseraga.
Vaseraga: Thanks to you. I can even appreciate how nice it is to have company while watching the moon.
Zeta: Whoa, there. I didn't come to join your moon-gazing session.
Vaseraga: You didn't?
Zeta: Nope! Mahira's looking for you. She said your new armor's done.
Part of any competent rescue operation includes securing the proper gear.
Using data obtained from Isaac, Mahira has been working tirelessly with Society scientists to outfit Vaseraga and company.
Vaseraga: I know they have experience with automagod parts, but still, that was faster than expected.
Zeta: They combed through that gigantic pile of data from dawn till dusk.
Zeta: Seriously... We owe them big time.
Vaseraga: The best way to pay them back is making the most of their work.
Zeta: Yeah! Well... You're not wrong about that, but...
Zeta: Is everything okay? Not like you to brood alone. More than usual at least.
Vaseraga: To be honest, I have a few concerns.
Vaseraga: Namely, whether or not Grynoth and I can reach an understanding.
Looking down at his scythe, Vaseraga gives the strangely glowing Grynoth an unsure squeeze.
Zeta: That's a pretty huge concern if you ask me...
Zeta: We've gotta make it to the moon with automagod weapons, right? Then we need mind-body resonance... Or whatever it's called.
According to Isaac's research, when contractors awaken their seal weapons and reach a certain level of neural acclimatization...
A mind-body resonance occurs, allowing the contractor to freely control an automagod with their mind.
The rescue team has decided to use the mind-body resonance to their advantage.
They plan to send automagods to the moon and rescue Cassius and Isaac from a distance, keeping (Captain) and company out of harm's way.
Zeta: I'm just as lost as you though. Not sure what it takes to resonate.
Vaseraga: Maybe we should try to emulate the bond that Beatrix and Embrasque share.
Zeta: So like... a partnership?
Vaseraga: Don't think Grynoth and I could muster that. It's just a specialized weapon. A means to an end.
Zeta: I get it. Considering it swallowed you up and made you go berserk... Yeah, would be kind of hard to call it your partner.
Vaseraga: You've got the gist of it.
Zeta: Hold on! Maybe something can be done about that.
Vaseraga: What?
Zeta: Come on, let's go see Mahira!
Zeta energetically skips away, while Vaseraga watches her with a suspicious eye. Not long after, he follows, and the two head for the base's research room.
Mahira: Hello, Vaseraga. Sorry to call on you so late into the evening.
Vaseraga: No. I should be apologizing. Sorry to make you work past sundown.
Mahira: No, no. I was more than grateful for the opportunity, especially since the results were no less than spectacular...
At Mahira's signal, a group of Society scientists emerge from the hanger with a massive suit of dark armor in tow.
Vaseraga: Well now...
Zeta: That is one cool hunk of metal! I can't wait to see what mine's like when it's done.
Mahira: Hopefully the wait won't be too much longer for you, Zeta.
Zeta: Ah, sorry, I didn't mean it that way. No need to rush.
Society Scientist: Ahem!
Mahira: Ah, if we could have your attention, everyone. Our resident expert has a few things to say. Go ahead.
Society Scientist: This armor was based on parts from an automagod. Not to mention we augmented it with a new alloy.
Society Scientist: Therefore it's as sturdy as an automagod itself! Not to mention, its light weight allows for a wide range of mobility. Truly a masterpiece, wouldn't you say?
Society Scientist: However, we haven't quite optimized its potential yet. We'll need you to try it on before anymore tweaking.
Vaseraga: Right.
Vaseraga: Hm, it's got some weight to it, but it's hardly a hindrance. What a strange sensation.
Mahira: Could you try holding Grynoth for a moment?
Vaseraga: It feels... more right in my hands than before.
Mahira: Zeta told me what she had to do to stop you when Grynoth took over your mind.
Vaseraga: ...
Mahira: She used Arvess as a means to communicate and bring you back to your senses.
Mahira: Which leads me to believe that contractors channel emotions through their seal weapons in order to resonate with them.
Mahira: Using this idea as our hypothesis, Zeta and the scientists assisted me with the engineering.
Society Scientist: Ahem!
Mahira: Ah, right. Perhaps I should let our expert discuss this part. Go ahead, the floor's yours.
Society Scientist: Through the experiment, we discovered that when contractor and seal weapon resonate, a previously unrecorded wavelength forms between them.
Society Scientist: But what is this unknown wavelength, you might wonder? Well, you see...
The scientist continues to babble about wavelengths and resonance for a short while.
Vaseraga: ...
Zeta: Heh... So, uh... In layman's terms, what now?
Mahira: We found a way to replicate the interference that occurred when you managed to snap Vaseraga from Grynoth's control.
Mahira: It is not a fully completed mechanism, but it should serve its purpose fairly well.
Vaseraga: In other words, I'll be able to wield the full extent of my might without losing control.
Mahira: Yes, theoretically. It's not finished yet, as I said.
Mahira: To help the process, I'd like to conduct a test. Could you draw upon the entirety of Grynoth's power here and now?
Vaseraga: Hmm...
Zeta: The heck? Give it a go, big guy.
Vaseraga: What if I can't control it?
Zeta: If it happens, it happens. I'll be here to stop you, remember?
Vaseraga: I suppose so. I'm counting on you then.
With Vaseraga's agreement secured, preparations are made for the test.
Vaseraga: ...
Zeta: I'm ready to go whenever you are. I've got your back.
Vaseraga: All right. Let's start.
Vaseraga: Sabet odem.
Vaseraga: Raaaaaaaggghhh!
Vaseraga unleashes Grynoth's power, causing the weapon to change form.
Grynoth flows with energy; Vaseraga's armor shines brightly.
Vaseraga: This...
Frozen in shock but in control of himself, Vaseraga takes in the transformation.
Mahira: I was worried for a moment there, but it looks like the interference mechanism worked.
Zeta: You hear that, Vaseraga? You can go as wild as you want now!
Vaseraga: Yeah... This changes everything.
Vaseraga, filled with relief, returns Grynoth to its original state.
Almeida: ...
Mahira: There you are, Almeida. I was wondering where you went.
Almeida: Eep! Ah, um, I got curious, so I...
Zeta: Almeida? What are you doing here?
Mahira: I asked for her help to make the armor.
Zeta: You did? Why didn't you say so earlier?
Almeida: Ah... Haha... I didn't want to cause a scene...
Vaseraga: You've saved my hide yet again. I owe you my thanks.
Almeida: I-it was nothing.
Zeta: Vaseraga, don't you think you owe her more than that? How about taking her out to dinner?
Almeida: Gulp! D-d-din...
Vaseraga: Not a bad idea. Once everything's settled, I'll treat everyone who helped to a nice meal.
Zeta: Excuse me? Can you not read—
Almeida: Th-that sounds great! They all did such a good job! I'll pitch in to cover the bill too!
Zeta: (Vaseraga! How dense can you get!)
Almeida: A-also... If I could ask for something else as compensation...
Almeida: Would it be okay if I took some of the leftover materials from making your armor?
Vaseraga: I don't mind, but do we actually have any?
Mahira: We do. I'm fine with Almeida choosing whatever she wants.
Almeida: Ohhh... Thank you both so much! There's something I really want to try...
While Almeida and the others chat, the Society scientist hums thoughtfully off to the side.
Society Scientist: Hmm...
Mahira: Is something wrong?
Society Scientist: The interference proved successful against Grynoth's influence.
Society Scientist: Yet... the results were far from the thresholds that we predicted.
Mahira: So we still have a ways to go.
Zeta: Uh... thresholds? What are you talking about?
Society Scientist: A good question. Thresholds, in general, refer to the sensations, reactions, stimulations—
Zeta: Wh-whoa, wait!
Zeta: Could you give the simple version... please?
Mahira: We detected lower resonance readings than we originally hypothesized.
Mahira: Of course, there were many unknown variables. We weren't sure how much to temper the resonance to meet our expected threshold.
Mahira: So we require more data, or we'll never be able to safely send automagods into the cosmos. I hope you don't mind assisting.
Vaseraga: Not at all.
Vaseraga must achieve a deeper resonance with Grynoth in the days to come.
Even with the assistance of the new armor, he ponders how to foster the bond between contractor and weapon.
