The Rules of One
(Captain) and company go into town to stock up on food, but they spot a local woman surrounded by ruffians and rush in to help. Impressed with the crew's chivalrous nature, a girl named Yuisis steps in and fends off the ruffians, later asking to join the crew.
(Captain) and company go into town to stock up on food and supplies.
Lyria: Umm... That's everything we need, right?
Vyrn: Yup! Okay, time to head back.
Lyria: Huh?
Vyrn: Wah! What was that?
Woman: Aaah!
Thug 1: This is our turf now! Deal with it!
Woman: You can't do that!
Thug 1: Who says we can't? I've got a paper here that says otherwise. We own this place now!
Woman: That paper is a total forgery! I've got the real one!
Thug 1: Hah! It doesn't matter what you say! You're nobody to us!
Thug 1: If we say this paper's legit, then it's legit!
Thug 1: So pack up and get lost. Or am I gonna have to start using force?
(Captain) and crew turn around to see a woman on the ground surrounded by thugs.
One of the thugs jumps in with a knife and goes to attack the woman.
Lyria: Watch out!
Vyrn: Whew, that was a close call. We barely made it in time.
Thug 1: What the? Who the heck are you? You're gonna regret poking your noses into our business!
Lyria: Well... I realize we don't really know what's going on here, but violence is not the answer! You have to talk it out.
Thug 1: Shut up! Hey, fellas, sort out these do-gooders! And don't forget that woman!
Thug 2: You got it!
Thug 3: Hehe, sorry 'bout this!
With a nod, the thugs brandish their blades and move in to attack.
Vyrn: Come on, guys... C-can't we talk about this?
Outnumbered and unable to escape, (Captain) fights a defensive battle.
But one of the thugs finds an opening and moves in to attack the woman.
In a desperate attempt to protect her, (Captain) jumps into the path of the attacker.
Lyria: No!
Vyrn: Look out!
???: Takin' the heat for someone in trouble...
???: Respect. I like that. You know, I think I might just join you guys in showin' these goons some manners.
Thug 1:
Thug 1: Oof! Wh-what the? You piece of—
???: You're finished, punk. Or haven't you noticed all your little friends are sleepin' with the fishes?
Thug 1: What! How could you possibly have taken them all out? We had the numbers...
???: You need to learn it's quality over quantity. Small fries like that ain't worth much in a real fight.
???: Now, you're way outta line with this little turf war of yours.
???: And gettin' heavy-handed with respectable strangers is not somethin' I'm willin' to overlook.
???: Time for some payback, scumbag.
With that the Erune woman brandishes her sword at the thug.

Lyria: No, stop!
Vyrn: Hey, take it easy, Crazy Girl!
???: Why're you tryin' to stop me? This lowlife broke the rules.
???: When someone breaks the rules and threatens the family, it's up to those in power to settle the business.
Lyria: Umm... Sorry, I'm not really sure what you're talking about.
Lyria: B-but... I think you might be taking it a little too far.
Vyrn: Yeah. You've done enough already.
???: Very well. If this is your request, then I cannot refuse.
???: You lowlifes owe these people a great debt. They let you off the hook.
???: But if I catch you breakin' the rules again, you ain't gonna be so lucky. Don't forget that.
Thug 1: Eek! Okay, okay!
Lyria: Wow! I've never seen such an intimidating smile!
Vyrn: Yeah... You are one scary girl...
???: Robbin' the innocent, threatenin' them, wreckin' their stuff... All of these things are unforgivable.
???: Once you break bread, you're family. After that you do whatever it takes to protect each other.
???: And you never go back on your word. You give respect, you earn respect. Someone does your family wrong, you make 'em pay.
???: Loyalty and duty are the bottom line.
???: Those are my rules. And if anyone wants to violate those rules, then they'll have to face me.
Vyrn: ...
Lyria: ...
???: Ahem. Anyway, forget about me. What about gettin' that lady patched up, huh?
Lyria: Oh yes, of course!
Together with their newfound acquaintance, whose name is Yuisis, the crew tends to the injured woman's wounds and helps her to tidy up.
Once their work is done, they bid the woman farewell and take a walk around town with Yuisis.
Lyria: Thanks for all your help, Yuisis. We couldn't have done it without you.
Yuisis: My pleasure. But I was just followin' your lead.
Vyrn: Well, you're an amazing fighter, that's for sure. I can't believe you took out all those guys in one swing!
Yuisis: Ever since I was young, I've been used to gettin' involved in the family business.
Vyrn: Yeah... I, um, can't help noticing you've got an interesting way of talking too.
Vyrn: You use words I've never even heard before.
Yuisis: Oh, sorry. Everyone in my family talks this way.
Yuisis: I guess it just rubbed off on me.
Lyria: I see... So that's what that is.
Vyrn: And that's not the only thing I noticed either. What about that weapon of yours?
Vyrn: I've never seen a sword and shield combined into a single weapon like that. It's pretty cool!
Yuisis: This is what my family's been usin' for generations.
Yuisis: They say it's got this special ability to get more powerful depending on who's holding it.
Vyrn: Whoa! That's awesome!
Yuisis: Yeah, but I dunno if it's true or not. It's probably just an old wives' tale.
Yuisis: Anyway, um...
Lyria: Yes? What is it, Yuisis? You're staring at us awfully hard...
Yuisis: Sorry, it's just that I never figured straight shooters like you for fixers.
Yuisis: Looks like you knights have got things runnin' pretty smoothly around here, huh?
Vyrn: Huh? Knights? We're not knights. We're a crew.
Yuisis: A crew? What, so this isn't your turf?
Vyrn: No.
Yuisis: Then how come you were helpin' that woman before? If you're not even from here, she's not your problem, right?
Choose: I was just acting on impulse.
Yuisis: You mean you just did all that without thinkin'?
Yuisis: Impressive. I mean, I knew you guys were all about chivalry, but...
Yuisis: Well, I didn't think you'd take it that far.
Yuisis: Respect. I've never seen that kind of integrity before. Not in anyone.
Choose: I hate seeing people in trouble.
Yuisis: You really care, huh? And you've got the muscle needed to take action.
Yuisis: I guess there's all kinds of people out there. But I've never seen that kind of integrity before. Not in anyone.

Yuisis: Must take a pretty special boss to lead a mafia like yours.
Yuisis: Whoever it is must be seriously tough.
Yuisis: Hmm... Maybe under someone like that, I could...
Lyria: What, Yuisis?
Yuisis: Oh. I was, um, wonderin' if I could get me a meetin' with your boss.
Vyrn: What? That's easy! (Captain) here is the captain of our crew.
Yuisis: What? Really?
Yuisis: So you're the boss. Sorry, captain, is it?
Yuisis: Okay, I'm gonna go out on a limb here. Any chance of us breakin' bread?
Lyria: Breaking bread? What do you mean?
Yuisis: Sorry, I was forgettin' you're not in the family.
Yuisis: Allow me to rephrase that for you.
Yuisis: Will you let me join your gang? I mean, your crew?
Vyrn: What? You?
Vyrn: I mean, sure, we'd love to have you. You're one tough girl. But... why?
Yuisis: It's just that... there's some business I have to attend to.
Yuisis: Somethin' I promised myself I'd never give up on.
Yuisis: Problem is, I'm not sure I'm ready. I got too much to learn still.
Yuisis: But I figure in a crew of straight-arrow skyfarers like yours, I'll be able to fill in the gaps.
Yuisis: That's my plan.
Yuisis: And from where I'm standin', you're the ideal boss.
Yuisis: So please, let me join.
Vyrn: Well, you won't hear any objections from me. I like your straight-forward attitude, Crazy Girl!
Lyria: Me too!
Choose: You could be my own flesh and blood.
Yuisis: Thank you!
Yuisis: It's a real honor to be likened to the boss's own family.
Yuisis: I'd take a punch for you. I'd take a bullet for you. Whatever it takes, I'll do it!
Lyria: We're not that kind of crew! We're all just friends!
Lyria: I don't know what you think (Captain)'s got in mind for you!
Yuisis: So then, time to break bread and swear me in, right?
Choose: You might have to break some of those rules.
Yuisis: I can't see how anything you straight shooters do could be against my rules.
Yuisis: And I think I'm a pretty good judge of character.
Lyria: But that payback and stuff you were talking about before...
Vyrn: Yeah, if you're in with us, there'll be no more of that.
Yuisis: How 'bout we just say, we'll wait and see, huh?
Yuisis: As a rule I'll be doin' exactly what the boss here says.
Yuisis: But there are some things I'm not gonna be able to compromise on.
Vyrn: Well, I guess that'd be okay. Everyone's got some principles they absolutely have to stick to, no matter what.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Yuisis: Thanks for understanding.
Yuisis: So then, time to break bread and swear me in, right?

Lyria: Um, Yuisis... What does that mean, exactly?
Yuisis: It's a kind of ritual among my people.
Yuisis: It's to show your allegiance. I eat from your bread. You eat from mine. No one gets poisoned.
Vyrn: Oh... Never heard of it.
Yuisis: We usually do it with drinks, but I'm guessing you guys don't drink. So we can use bread.
(Captain) and the others share bread amongst themselves as Yuisis described.
Lyria: Um, is that it, then?
Yuisis: Yeah. From now on, I'm in your mafia. I mean, your crew. I'm one of you.
Yuisis: Thanks for lettin' me in, Boss.
Lyria: Um, Yuisis, we usually say Captain.
Vyrn: Yeah, this isn't a mafia. Okay, Crazy Girl?
Yuisis: Okay. But mafia or no mafia, we're family now that we've broken bread.
Yuisis: And as a sign of respect, I'm gonna be totally open and honest with you all.
Yuisis: Which means bein' true to myself... and callin' (Captain) Boss.
With that, Yuisis smiles.
Nobody thinks too hard about this latest addition to the crew.
About her true identity. And about her motives.
