The crew meets Dorothy, a girl dressed as a maid who, for some reason, refers to (Captain) as her master and has researched the crew. After she starts an argument with some thugs, the crew lets the somewhat dangerous girl join to avoid leaving her on the loose.
That day after finishing a mission, (Captain)'s crew goes into town to get some lunch at a tavern.
Vyrn: Phew... I'm starving...
Lyria: Me too! (Captain), what do you want to eat?
Vyrn: Hey! Let's talk about this once we're inside!
Lyria: Ha-ha... I'm with you there. Let's go.
???: Welcome back, Master.
???: Right this way, Master! The food is ready, so I'll bring it to you in a moment.
Lyria: Um... Master? What do you mean?
???: I mean what I say, naturally. (Captain) is my master—no question about it.
Vyrn: Hey... I think you've got the captain confused with someone else. Right, (Captain)?
Choose: That's right.
- That's right.
- Well... there was that one time...
Vyrn: I knew it! Lady, I think you're a little confused.Choose: Well... there was that one time...
Lyria: What? You mean you know what this maid is talking about?
Vyrn: No way! We're together almost all the time, and I think I'd remember if you had a maid.Continue 1
???: Have you really forgotten, Master? It was only three days ago...
And so the mysterious Dorothy begins to speak.
Dorothy: You were recently at the Knickknack Shack with your friends, weren't you, Master?
Dorothy: That was actually the first time I ever saw you... It must have been fate.
Dorothy: We just sort of clicked. It was incredible...
Dorothy: I was traveling in search of the runaway lady of the castle...
Dorothy: And before I knew it, I got separated from Claudia, who was searching with me.
Dorothy: But now I know that everything was just leading up to our meeting, Master. I suppose I should be grateful!
Dorothy: Just as I arrived at the Knickknack Shack, thinking to put in a request for help finding the lady of the castle, you arrived...
Dorothy: And you looked right at me. Master, you were sending me a signal, weren't you? And that signal reached me loud and clear!
Dorothy: You're traveling on an airship called the Grandcypher, are you not?
Dorothy: I'm sure your airship is magnificent, as befitting a person of your stature, Master.
Dorothy: And the fact that you're bound for the Island of the Astrals... I'd expect nothing less of you!
Dorothy: I think people who follow their dreams are amazing, and your dream is bigger than most!
Vyrn: Hey... how do you know so much about us?
Dorothy: A maid must know her master better than anyone else.
Dorothy: So I know everything about my master and understand the master's needs better than anyone.
Lyria: Um... Really?
Dorothy: Of course! So I have just one request...
Dorothy: Please allow me to accompany you on your journey.
Vyrn: Um... What should we do about this? Hey...
Ruffian: You! Don't just stand there! Get out of my way!
Dorothy: Gross... Scum.
Ruffian: Huh? What was that? You got a problem?
Dorothy: By the way, isn't it a little cold in here, Master? I certainly wouldn't want you to catch a cold.
Dorothy pauses briefly but then spots the ruffians' luggage and smiles.
Dorothy: I know! If I just burn this, that'll solve our little problem. I'm fairly confident in my ability to incinerate trash.
Ruffian: Yikes! What's wrong with this girl? She looks serious!
Dorothy: This might smell a little nasty, so please pinch your noses. Okay—
Ruffian: Let's get out of here!
Dorothy: Ah... they're gone. Oh well. I'm sure there are plenty more where they came from.
Dorothy: I'll go prepare the firewood instead, Master.
Vyrn: You know... It might be a little dangerous to leave that girl on her own.
Lyria: Um... I was thinking the same thing...
Choose: Yeah... That's a pretty scary thought.
- Yeah... That's a pretty scary thought.
- I guess we don't really have a choice...
Lyria: But if you say something to her, maybe she'll change her attitude a bit.Choose: I guess we don't really have a choice...
Vyrn: Yeah... I guess all we can do is accept it.Continue 2
Dorothy: I have prepared the firewood, Master. And don't worry, because this won't stink up the place when it burns.
And so, despite her slightly dangerous tendencies, the crew allows the maid Dorothy to join them.
But no matter how many times (Captain) speaks to her, her attitude refuses to change.
The Spirit of Service
Dorothy takes care of (Captain)'s affairs and insists on continuing to do so even when Lyria objects to her being all over the captain. Some imperial soldiers show up to arrest (Captain), and Dorothy fearlessly faces them to protect her master.
Dorothy: Which store should we visit next, Master?
Dorothy: I can do everything from showing you around stores to negotiating prices!
Dorothy: And I naturally haven't forgotten about your tea either.
Dorothy: I even baked some cookies for you. Let's take a break when we get back to the airship, Master!
(Captain) and company are in town for some shopping.
As they visit stores, Dorothy stays right next to (Captain).
Dorothy: I know! Shall we go buy some new clothes for you, Master?
Dorothy: I heard that the tailors around here are wonderful!
Dorothy: And... I would love to see you looking even better than you do right now!
Lyria: Um... Can't you give (Captain) a little room to breathe, Dorothy?
Dorothy: He can breathe just fine. This is my job, silly!
Dorothy: It's a maid's duty to stay near her master and attend to every need that arises!
Lyria: But that doesn't mean you need to be all over him like that...
Imperial Soldier: Hey! You there! Stop! You're the wanted skyfarers, aren't you?
Vyrn: Uh-oh... Looks like trouble...
Imperial Soldier: Heh-heh... You're coming with us. Don't even bother resisting!
Dorothy: Um... Excuse me, but who might you be? May I ask what you want with my master?
Imperial Soldier: Huh? You don't know who we are?
Imperial Soldier: We're soldiers from the almighty Erste Imperial Army! These skyfarers are wanted for—
Dorothy: Oh, I already know. My master saved Lyria from Erste—isn't that right?
Dorothy: Fighting the empire to protect a girl... How very noble!
Imperial Soldier: But if you know so much, what's with the confusion?
Dorothy: Why would you pursue someone who's done nothing wrong?
Imperial Soldier: You! Are you picking a fight with us?
Dorothy: Of course not!
Dorothy: But then again, if you threaten my master, you'll have to answer to me.
Dorothy: My master's enemy is my enemy... Because I'll always side with my master, no matter what!
The Spirit of Service: Scene 2
Dorothy sends the imperial soldiers packing, but some of them later sneak aboard the Grandcypher. She saves (Captain) from an arrow but is wounded as a result, triggering her fury.
Imperial Soldier: Ugh... Retreat!
Dorothy: Whew... Are you all right, Master?
Choose: I'm fine.
- I'm fine.
- Are you okay, Dorothy?
Dorothy: I'm so relieved you're not hurt.Choose: Are you okay, Dorothy?
Dorothy: Wha? I don't deserve such kind words!
Dorothy: I'm completely devoted to you, Master.
Dorothy: So please don't trouble yourself with thoughts of my safety.Continue 1
Vyrn: Oh boy... Let's just hurry back to the airship.
Vyrn: Man... With the empire constantly harassing us, we can't even go shopping in peace!
The crew successfully drives the soldiers away and quickly leaves the town.
Imperial Soldier: ...
Imperial Soldier: All right... Commence the operation...
Dorothy: Please try some, Master. I baked these cookies just for you!
Dorothy: I hope you like them...
Dorothy: Oh... Hold on, Master. Let me feed that one to you. Now open wide...
Lyria: Wait! I don't know about that...
Dorothy: Ha-ha... Don't worry, Lyria. I understand.
Dorothy: There are cookies and cakes and macaroons for you, too. I'll bring them right out!
Lyria: Oh! Thank you, Dorothy!
Vyrn: Well, Lyria... If that's all you really want, I won't say anything.
Dorothy: Now I'll go prepare some tea for every—
Dorothy: Master! Watch out!
Lyria: Dorothy, are you hurt? I just saw an arrow!
Dorothy: Thank you, but it only grazed me. More importantly... it seems that some rats snuck onto the airship.
Imperial Soldier: Heh... Rats, are we?
Vyrn: Hey! Where'd you guys come from?
Dorothy: I assume they tailed us in town and snuck onto the ship with us.
Imperial Soldier: Ha-ha! You assume right! As your reward, I'll end you without suffering!
Dorothy: Oh! I had no idea imperial soldiers were so generous!
Imperial Soldier: What?
Dorothy: Because I won't give you such a reward, no matter how much you beg.
Dorothy: You'll pay dearly for trying to harm my master.
Dorothy: And you'll have no mercy from me, no matter how much you scream or beg! Teehee.
The Spirit of Service: Scene 3
The crew stops Dorothy from chasing after the fleeing imperial soldiers. When asked why she serves (Captain) as her master, she remarks that since she has no family, serving someone is her greatest happiness.
Imperial Soldier: Aahh! Please! No more! Keep that woman away from me!
Dorothy: Oh? Didn't I tell you? Begging isn't going to save you...
Vyrn: Wait! I think they've had enough. Don't you think so too, (Captain)?
Dorothy: Hmm... I guess you might be right.
The crew captures the soldiers that boarded the airship and drops them off at a nearby island.
Vyrn: Whew... I was worried there for a minute.
Vyrn: Hey... I've been wondering... Why do you care so much about serving (Captain), Dorothy?
Lyria: Now that I think about it... You were almost hit by an arrow earlier too.
Dorothy: Hmm... Well... To serve someone is what I live for.
Dorothy: I never knew my parents, and I've been alone as long as I can remember.
Dorothy: No one so much as looked at me when I was a child, and naturally no one needed me.
Dorothy: But at some point I found myself with Claudia at my side...
Dorothy: I was hired as a maid to serve at the castle. And there were people who needed me.
Dorothy: I was so happy! I felt like I was finally accepted.
Dorothy: So that's why I want someone I recognize as my master to always need me...
Dorothy: Please, Master... Please let me continue to do everything I can for you!
Vyrn: I see... So that's why...
Lyria: Ha-ha... I feel like I finally understand you a bit better, Dorothy.
Dorothy: Okay, Master! If you need anything, please don't hesitate to tell me!
Dorothy happily starts preparing some tea for the crew.
Based on her smile, it seems that being needed by someone makes her truly happy.
