Gunner's Brother
Jessica arrives at the lair of the primal beast that abducted her brother, but finds no sign of him. (Captain) invites Jessica into the crew to help find her brother, and it seems she has her own ideas to help the crew as well.
(Captain) and company are exploring a cave said to be the lair of a primal beast.
Along the way, they meet Jessica, a girl searching for her younger brother kidnapped by the primal beast.
Jessica: Hmm.
Jessica: If he already left the cave, how will I... Where should I go from here?
Vyrn: But hey... on the bright side, if he managed to escape, at least he's safe for now right?
Jessica: I guess you're right, and that's definitely a good thing, but...
Jessica: It looks like my journey isn't over just yet.
Jessica: Haha, that boy can be a handful sometimes, honestly.
Vyrn: But where are you gonna go next?
Jessica: ...
Jessica: I hadn't thought that far ahead. I wonder what I should do...
Lyria: Um... Did your little brother leave behind any other clues?
Jessica: No... His kidnapping by Nephthys was just so sudden...
Jessica: For now, I guess I'll drop this stick, see where it falls, and go searching in that direction.
Lyria: In that case, why don't we all search together?
Jessica: Oh, I would appreciate that very much... But I wouldn't want to impose on you.
Vyrn: Haha, don't even sweat it! We'd love to help.
Vyrn: To tell you the truth, as far as our journey goes, we just kinda play it by ear anyway.
Lyria: Exactly! Besides, I'd feel a lot better having someone like you around, Jessica!
Jessica: But... are you sure?
- Of course
- I’m counting on you
Choose: Of courseJessica: Hehe... How could I possibly refuse when you sound so confident?
Choose: I’m counting on youJessica: Hehe... I'll do my best to not disappoint you.
Continue 1Jessica: So, it seems like I'll be accepting your gracious offer.
Jessica: I look forward to flying with you, (Captain).
Lyria: Yay! Now our journey's gonna be even more fun! Don't you think so, (Captain)?
Jessica: Hehe... To tell you the truth, I was actually a little worried about you guys.
Vyrn: Worried? About what?
Jessica: Well, (Captain) and the rest of you just worry me in various ways.
Jessica: You don't handle items with care, and you recklessly spend your money...
Jessica: You've got growing girls like Lyria with you, but your meals are all so unbalanced.
Jessica: Now that I'll be traveling with you, I'd like to help you get your act together in those areas as well.
Jessica: And as for you, Lyria... You won't grow up big and strong if you only ever eat your favorite foods.
Lyria: Aww... But, but I...
Vyrn: Uh-oh. It looks like she's gonna be whipping us into shape one way or another!
(Captain) and company welcome Jessica, the girl pursuing her little brother across the endless sky.
But her unexpected emphasis on discipline has the crew at a bit of a loss.
Hopeful Reunion
Jessica learns that her brother is searching for her, and that he may have gone to a nearby mountain inhabited by monsters. Jessica and the crew decided to investigate immediately.
Jessica: Oh, Lyria. You have some food stuck on your mouth.
Lyria: Huh?
Jessica: Stay still for a second. I'll clean it off for you.
Lyria: Oh... Thank you, Jessica.
Jessica: Haha... You're quite welcome.
(Captain) and company are in town enjoying a leisurely meal.
Jessica: Vyrn, if all you eat are apples, you won't grow up to be a great dragon.
Vyrn: Ha! Jokes on you, I'm already a magnificent dragon!
Jessica: ...
Jessica: That sounds awfully like something a lizard might say...
Vyrn: I... I, uh... Excuse me! Gimme your largest plate of meat and veggies, please!
Employee: Yes, right away! Huh? Wait, are you...
Vyrn: What? I'm not a lizard, if that's what you're thinking!
Employee: No, not you. The young lady with the black hair.
Jessica: You mean me?
Employee: Haha, I thought you looked familiar. Your brother was actually here looking for you the other day.
Jessica: My brother? W-When was this?
Employee: Let's see... Two or three days ago, I'd say.
Lyria: That means your brother might still be nearby!
Jessica: Did he say anything about where he was going?
Employee: Hmm... He mentioned the mountain nearby. There's been talk of monsters in that area, so I tried to stop him, but...
Jessica: Oh dear... A mountain of monsters.
Vyrn: In that case, we gotta dash!
Jessica: What? No, not this time... I'll go alone.
Jessica: This is to save my own brother... I can't endanger (Captain) and everyone else for this.
Lyria: What are you saying, Jessica? We can't let you head into danger alone!
Vyrn: Yeah, all for one and one for all!
Jessica: I... I see.
Jessica: Haha... Thank you. I really am grateful, (Captain).
Jessica: Now let's go. I'll keep all of you safe! I promise!
Hopeful Reunion: Scene 2
On the mountain, the ground is littered with monsters apparently defeated by Jessica's brother. The crew is impressed with his work, but some still remain.
Vyrn: Look at this mess. So this is what your brother's capable of...
Jessica: Hahaha... Oh dear, how embarrassing.
(Captain) and company reach the mountain where they heard Jessica's brother is.
Along the path they find a trail of defeated monsters to follow.
Lyria: This is really something else. Fighting skills must really run in your family, Jessica!
Jessica: Well... We certainly fought with each other on a daily basis.
Vyrn: Uh... What kinds of fights are we talking about here?
Jessica: Haha... It's quite embarrassing, so I'd rather not say.
Monster: Grrr...
Vyrn: Hey... Looks like your brother left some for us!
Jessica: Luckily he's not the only fighter in our family. I'll take care of this!
Hopeful Reunion: Scene 3
The crew follows the path of defeated monsters to a village deep in the forest to find that Jessica's brother has already left. Although she just missed him, she can continue her jouney with peace of mind knowing he's safe.
(Captain) and company follow the path of defeated monsters to a village deep in the forest.
Villager: Oh, yes... There was a boy that looked quite a bit like you who stayed in the village a few days ago.
Villager: But I'm sorry... I didn't ask him where he was going next.
Jessica: I... I see.
Lyria: Aww... The trail's gone cold again.
Jessica: It seems so, but I'm actually a little relieved.
Vyrn: Yeah! You saw what he did to all those monsters! I'm sure he's doing fine!
Jessica: Haha, that's definitely one thing...
Jessica: But if it means I can continue my adventures with you guys, it isn't all bad.
Jessica: I truly am blessed to have all of you with me.
Lyria: I'm glad you'll be with us a while longer, too! Don't you feel the same way, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Isn't this great, Lyria? I bet you won't be a picky eater for long!
Lyria: Oh, Vyrn!
In the end, the crew isn't able to find Jessica's brother.
However, Jessica takes great solace in knowing she'll be able to continue her jouney with (Captain)'s crew.
Table Manners
The party stops in a restaurant to enjoy a nice, hot meal. Alec is none too pleased with being admonished by Jessica for not finishing everything on his plate. He leaves the restaurant in a huff. Though hours have passed, Jessica is nowhere to be seen on the Grandcypher. Alec, with a little encouragement, joins in the search. Not only did Alec find her, he also learned what she had been planning. Jessica wanted to take Alec out of his comfort zone, starting with a nice, home-cooked meal. Blushing furiously, Alec managed to mumble a thank you.
Lyria: Nom nom...
Shopkeep: My apologies for the wait. I believe this is your order. Is everything correct?
Vyrn: Oh? It’s here! It’s finally here! Time to chow down!
Alec: Whoa?! Hold up! That’s mine!
Vyrn: Heheh! First come, first served!
Alec: What did you say?! Whatever! Just hand it over!
Jessica: Hehe... it’s no good to get in a fight when you’re at the table. Right, (Captain)?
In the middle of their journey, (Captain)’s party lands on a certain island.
There’s little more soothing than gathering around a table to enjoy a meal in the company of friends, and it was no different for our heroes.
Lyria: That was good! I could go for seconds! Tenths, even!
Shopkeep: Hehe... thank you. It’s a real treat to hear praise like that.
Jessica: Hm? Alec! What’s with that plate...
Alec: Uh... well, I...
Jessica: You, uh, what? I’m seeing a looot of vegetables on there...
Jessica: Hmph... you may not like them, but you do know there’s nothing worse than being picky. Right?
Alec: ...
Jessica: That’s right, young man... I wasn’t too fond of my veggies when I was your age, you know...
Jessica: But I’d eat them right up regardless... how do you think I got so big?
Jessica: Do you hear me, Alec? Just think about it. How silly would I look being picky at my age...
Alec: Shut up! Just get the heck off my back, already!
Alec: How’m I supposed to know what I’m gonna grow up to be?! Maybe my power’s gonna kill me before I do! You think about that?!
Alec: Just get off my damn back! I don’t need your stupid advice! I mean, damn...
Jessica: Oh!
Jessica: ..........
Lyria: Oh, no... I know Alec was angry. But don’t you think he looked a little sad?
Vyrn: But c'mon! Why’d he have to pop off like that? Right, (Captain)?
Shopkeep: Well... you know how children are at that age...
Jessica: .........
Jessica: Excuse me... would you mind answering a question?
Shopkeep: Yes?
Vyrn: Huh? Jessica’s still not back? What the hell is going on?
Lyria: Hm... I’m getting worried. It’s so dark out...
Lyria: Hey, (Captain). Why don’t we go and look for Jessica? We can take Alec with us!
Alec: What?! Why the heck d’you need me?!
Lyria: Look! Now we can go, (Captain)! You too, Alec!
Alec: Tsk... fine. Let’s go, (Captain).
Lyria: Hmm... the only place I can think of that she might be is the restaurant we ate lunch...
Alec: Hmph... well she must be somewheres around here. Probably dawling around...
Alec: ... hm?
Shopkeep: Hehe... my, that is that tasty. You’re quite the skilled one, Jessica.
Jessica: I’m glad to hear you say that! This ought to get Alec to eat his veggies...
Shopkeep: It ought to... you do seem quite fired up.
Jessica: Haha... well. I know what it’s like to hate eating your vegetables.
Jessica: But when I finally started eating them. I couldn’t believe what I’d been missing out on...
Jessica: I... I really shouldn’t have spoken to him like that...
Shopkeep: Hehe... so you decided to whip up some tasty food for him yourself.
Jessica: Haha... I just want him to understand. There’s a lot of great things out there. We can start him off with this...
Alec: Jessica...
Lyria: Ah! I knew you would be here!
Alec: ...
Lyria: Wait! Alec?! Wh-where are you going?!
Alec returned that evening, but didn’t seem to be in a talking sort of mood.
From then on the crew of the Grandcypher was treated to an endless array of veggies, courtesy of Jessica herself.
Jessica: How’s that?! I went right back to the restaurant to get a hands-on lesson in vegetable cuisine!
Lyria: Wow...! You’re amazing, Jessica! It’s so good!
Vyrn: Munch... wow. I’d eat this no problem, vegetables or not!
Jessica: Hehe... so what do you think? Alec?
Alec: ... it’s, uh... it’s good...
Jessica: Oooh! That takes care of your veggie problem!
Vyrn: Hah! Good for you, Alec! Hope you know you got yourself someone real special here. Dooo you?
Alec: Shut up, already! Like I’m gonna listen to a lizard!
Alec: Oh and, uh... Jessica? About what happened... y’know, before...
Alec: I’m sorry... I should’ve just kept my big mouth shut...
Jessica: Hehe... I’ve already forgotten about it. Besides. There’s something else I want to hear from you.
Alec: ...
Alec: Th-thanks... I can probably choke down a few vegetables if they’re always cooked like that...
Lyria: Hehe... look at you, Alec. I didn’t know you could turn so red.
Alec: Shut it, dummy! I, um... it’s... It’s cold out here, damnit!
Jessica: Hehe... we’re going to make sure you eat nice, balanced meals!
And so under the watchful eye of Jessica, (Captain), and the rest of the party, Alec began his journey towards a healthy mind and boy.
And now that Alec was over his pickiness, it was time for him to acquaint himself with proper dining etiquette.
