The Cursed Mask
The Empire was developing a cutting-edge mask and used Rosamia in their experiments. Her circumstances give her no choice but to fight. (Captain) extends a hand in friendship as a fellow enemy of the Empire.
Our heroes come across a knight fighting a one-woman battle against savage monsters.
She fights bravely but her swings are wild and reckless. (Captain) stands with her without question.
Rosamia: I don't need your help! I mean it! Leave!
Vyrn: Yeah, right! As if we'd leave behind someone in trouble!
Vyrn: We can do it! (Captain)'s got your back!
Rosamia: Tch. Such bravado.
Vyrn: Whew. We somehow took care of those monsters.
Lyria: Oh no! You're hurt! Let me take a look.
Rosamia: Hands off!
Rosamia: (What would you do if you fell prey to this cursed mask?)
Rosamia: Or would it actually be so bad to be freed from this curse?
Vyrn: I heard that! I don't know what you're about, but I don't like it!
Rosamia: No need to worry. I just got my thoughts and words mixed up, that's all.
Vyrn: Thoughts and words mixed up. Sure, whatever. So, what's the deal with this mask and curse?
Rosamia: So you've made up your mind to stay? Just remember. It was your choice.
Rosamia: The Erste Empire created this mask. The wearer loses all sense of self. It controls them, makes them fight beyond their limits.
Even as a child, her prodigious skill in battle had caught the attention of the Empire. She was summoned to take part in an army experiment.
Rosamia had been chosen to wear the latest creation of the Empire; a mask that forces the wearer to fight endlessly against their will.
She rejected her fate as a test subject and absconded with the sum of the Empire's research. She's been on the run ever since.
Rosamia: By the time my eyes had opened to their trickery, I'd already fallen prey to its curse.
Vyrn: To think that the Empire would be doing those kinds of experiments! Whack it with your sword, (Captain)! That oughta break it!
Rosamia: Fool. If only it were that easy.
Rosamia: Is that my Thunder Rapier? No, it can't be! Why do you people have it?
Lyria: Um... is something wrong?
Rosamia: The last time I saw my father and mother, they entrusted me with that blade. I could never forget such fine craftsmanship.
Vyrn: So this sword is yours?
Rosamia: Its beautiful form has been passed down in my household for generations.
Rosamia: It was my parent's farewell gift until the army took it from me. They said I would have no need for sentimentality. I never thought I'd see it again.
Lyria: But you've escaped from the Empire. Why don't you just go home?
Rosamia: Don't be foolish. I have no idea when this mask will go berserk.
Rosamia: How could I return home knowing I might lose myself and turn on my family?
Vyrn: So now you're down in the dumps and fighting monsters alone.
Choose: Now we have to do something.
- Now we have to do something.
- Let's foil the Empire's plans.
Rosamia: I don't want to hurt anyone close to me. That's why I have to do this alone.
Vyrn: I get that but if you wanna stick it to the Empire, we can help you!Choose: Let's foil the Empire's plans.
Rosamia: I don't think you understand what you're talking about.
Vyrn: Hehe! You heard me! And we've been facing the Empire for a long time!Continue 1
Vyrn: So what if the mask goes a little crazy? (Captain) and I'll stop it!
Rosamia: You're quite the meddlesome bunch. You must be fools to stand against the Empire with such naivety.
Vyrn: Hey now. Don't tell me you got your thoughts and words mixed up again!
Vyrn: All right! We'll break the Empire's curse, you and us together!
Rosamia sets out with her new companions, feeling positive for the first time in a long while.
She's ready to face the curse of the mask, hoping to one day see her beloved parents again.
The Masked Traitor
The crew arrives at a research facility rumored to have had connections to the mask. Their investigation is blocked by an imperial soldier and monsters lying in wait.
The crew disembarks on an island said to house an imperial research facility. They intend to look for clues pertaining to Rosamia's mask.
Vyrn: There's something really fishy about this island. If the rumors are true, the empire is conducting some kind of experiment here!
Rosamia: Yes. I erased the research data on the mask so they should be researching something else.
Vyrn: All right! Then let's crush the Empire's conspiracy!
Vyrn: We need to find the facilities first! If I were a research facility, where would I be?
Lyria: Well, I think—Huh? Hey, check out this poster. Doesn't this look like Rosamia?
Vyrn: It's a wanted poster!
Vyrn: The Masked Traitor? Is the empire trying to setup Rosamia as a criminal?
Rosamia: So they're calling me the Masked Traitor? I suppose that makes sense from their point of view.
Vyrn: Bah! That's so dirty! We're gonna have a hard time moving around if this spreads!
Rosamia: I can't cause any more trouble to you and the others.
Rosamia: I knew I shouldn't have joined you.
Vyrn: That's not true! Don't say things like that! It's the Empire's fault!
Lyria: Exactly! They're the bad guys, Rosamia!
Imperial Soldier: Halt! I don't recognize you lot. What are you doing here? Wait, you're...
Imperial Soldier: Well, well, if it isn't Rosamia the traitor. I thought I smelled a rat.
Vyrn: This guy knows Rosamia?
Imperial Soldier: Heh, don't tell me you've forgotten me! I used to take real good care of you back at that lab, remember?
Rosamia: I have no memory of this weakling but I'll play along to drag out some information.
Rosamia: Yes, you did take care of me, didn't you?
Vyrn: Oy, oy, you said that out loud, you know.
Imperial Soldier: A weakling? How dare you!
Imperial Soldier: Curse you. Whatever. That reward money for your capture is mine!
Imperial Soldier: Heh! Allow me to show you the fruits of our research! You think you can handle this?
Vyrn: Ack! So this is what they've been working on! We have to fight it, (Captain)!
The Masked Traitor: Scene 2
The crew follows the fleeing soldier to the research facility. The monsters have gone out of control and only (Captain) and company can stop them.
Rosamia: Words fail me. Calling this research is pitiful.
Imperial Soldier: What would you know? You bested half-finished research, so what?
Rosamia: I have no time for small fry. If you don't tell me where the facility is, well, I'm sure you know what'll happen, yes?
Lyria: Wow! Rosamia sounds like a villain!
Imperial Soldier: Ugh! You'll live to regret this!
Vyrn: Argh! He ran for it! Man, he's quick!
Rosamia: After him! He might lead us to the source!
Vyrn: Gotcha! Let's go, (Captain)!
Vyrn: Hmm. So this is the research facility. There's hardly any security. What's going on?
Rosamia: Fool. It's a trap.
Vyrn: Hey! If you knew it was a trap, why didn't you say so earlier! Are we going to be okay?
Imperial Soldier: Huff... Huff... The monsters of this lab feel no pain or fatigue and can fight on forever!
Imperial Soldier: Hehe! Go ahead and act high and mighty while you still can! You'll all fall victim to these monsters!
Vyrn: That's horrible. Don't tell me you're planning on using this research on people?
Imperial Soldier: And if we are? Why don't we experiment on you? Better take care of those monsters or else.
Vyrn: Shoot! This one looks strong! Be careful, (Captain)!
Imperial Soldier: What the—! It's out of control!
Imperial Soldier: Eeek! It's attacking everything! You've gotta help me!
Rosamia: You can't even clean up after your own mess. In that case, I'll raze this place to the ground for you!
Vyrn: All right, (Captain)! No need to hold back! Let's get them!
The Masked Traitor: Scene 3
The facility is destroyed, along with the monsters and research data. The crew continues on their journey, awaiting the day Rosamia is freed from the chains of the mask.
Vyrn: Yeah! How's that! I feel sorry for the monsters, but we smashed the facility!
Rosamia: He abandoned the test subjects and research data without a second thought.
Vyrn: Hehe! Maybe the empire's just filled with cowards!
Vyrn: Anyway, we destroyed the research facility but it's not over yet.
Vyrn: We've got a long way to go if we want to stop them from making anymore victims.
Rosamia: But we have to continue on. I won't quit until I put an end to their schemes!
Rosamia: I'm afraid I may cause you and your crew more harm in the future, (Captain).
Rosamia: You're a meddlesome bunch but also quick to help others. If it's you, then I don't mind asking for help.
Vyrn: Leave it to us! We'll stand up to the Empire together, you'll see!
Vyrn: Isn't that right, (Captain)?
Lyria: I want to see Rosamia smile again!
Lyria: Let's find a way to say goodbye to that awful mask!
(Captain) and company manage to destroy the Empire's research data along with the laboratory.
However, Rosamia's fate is still weighed down by the mask.
(Captain) and company will continue their journey until Rosamia is released from the chains of the mask.
The Wood Warrior's Wise Words
Rosamia had brought (Captain) and company back to her home, hoping she could find out where her family had gone. But her family was gone, as was her childhood home. Rosamia was despondent, and Walder’s homegrown philosophy of life was just what the doctor ordered.
The day found Rosamia lost in a reverie that her mask did little to hide.
Walder happened to pass by just as our heroes were sharing their concern for Rosamia.
Walder: Huh? What's with you guys? Sneak, sneak, sneaking around... what's the deal?
Lyria: It's just... something's been going on with Rosamia lately. It's like she's worried sick.
Walder: What's this... Rosamia's in poor spirits?! I had no idea... perhaps I'm not the member of this company I thought I was!
Vyrn: Hey, now... no need for all that... (Gah... we never should have let Walder in on this... )
Walder: Ah... how to solve this dilemma. I've had years to cultivate my woodsman's philosophy. Perhaps it's time to put it to good use...
Vyrn: W-wait up! Where the hell do you think you're going?! Walder!
Walder: I'm the man for the job! Walder the Forest Ranger cannot even SPELL the word "impossible!"
Walder: Ah! Rosamia! Mind a bit of company?
Rosamia: Huh? You need something?
Walder: Ah, not quite... it's just, it's hard to find a spot of the airship with a view so lovely as this.
Rosamia: What? What in the... here? It's an airship, for goodness sake. The view's good anywhere.
Rosamia: (What a weirdo... why does he need to sit by me?)
Rosamia: Weird. This is definitely weird... eerie, even...
Walder: (Ugh... there I go spouting off again. )
Walder: I mean, uh... look at that great, big sky. What's a little worry compared to that?
Rosamia: What? Whatever you say, but if you don't need anything I'm gonna get going.
Rosamia: (I wish it was as simple as all that. Still, I guess I shouldn't just leave... )
Rosamia: I just don't wanna cause anyone any trouble... this is something I need to handle myself. I need to leave the Order...
Walder: (What in the hell... just LISTEN to how you sound, Rosamia... )
Walder: (Grr... time for some tough love!)
Walder: Pump the brakes, Rosamia! What d'you mean "handle yourself?!"
Rosamia: HAH! H-how in the world?! What are you, psychic?!
Walder: That's right! Don't keep it all bottled up. Tell ol' Walder what's on your mind.
Rosamia: Grr... Walder... What manner of trickery...
Walder: Dahahaha! The Great Walder is a master of the fantastic!
Rosamia: Gah... I suppose I can't hold it in any longer. I... I'll tell them.
Vyrn: Looks like it worked, whatever it was.
Lyria: Okay! Let's go see her!
Rosamia's face set into a grim expression as she spilled out her troubles to the party.
Rosamia had lost track of her family during her time as a test subject of the Empire. She'd missed them ever since.
But her concern over the safety of her loved ones meant that Rosamia was ever hesitant to use the sword she'd turned against the Empire.
Rosamia: Sigh... and that's what I need to handle. Now that I can control the mask, I can leave the Order and head home.
Walder: Please, Rosamia. Why on earth would you need to leave? Eh, (Captain)?
Choose: We can team up!
- We can team up!
- Power in numbers and all, right?
Rosamia: Thank you. (Captain)...
Rosamia: Seems like I'm racking up quite the debt with you...Choose: Power in numbers and all, right?
Rosamia: You're such a softie, (Captain).
Rosamia: Hehe! But I guess that's kind of what I like about you...Continue 1
Rosamia: Sorry for making you worry. All of you. I was at a real loss, to tell you the truth...
Rosamia: So please... I want you guys to come with me.
Lyria: Hehe!Of course we will! You know how important to are to us, Rosamia.
Vyrn: Alright! Sounds like we got ourselves a new course!
And so the Grandcypher changed course, heading for the town that Rosamia called home.
Looking clearly anxious, Rosamia guides the party through town.
Walder: Don’t worry. I'm sure your family's snug as a bug in a rug.
Rosamia: Thanks, Walder. We're almost there...
But the home where Rosamia and her family had spent their lives was gone.
In its place was a scorched ruin. Rosamia fell to hear knees. She said not a word as the tears coursed down her face.
Rosamia: This can't be... they... my family... but why...
Walder: The curse! Who could be so callous...?
Just then a man approached, his heart in his throat at the sight of Rosamia.
???: ... Gasp! The mask... you... are you Rosamia?
Rosamia: Who... who are you? Don't tell me you're from the Empire...
Town Sentry: Nothing of the sort... I am but a sentry. I'd joined the guard not long after you left...
Town Sentry: I... I can only assume you're here to see your family. But I'm afraid they're no longer here...
Quietly, the man begins to speak of the tragedy that befell Rosamia's loved ones.
According to the man, some months after Rosamia had been summoned by the Empire, an incident occurred.
In fear that their latest technology had been leaked, the imperial army was sent to attack Rosamia's home.
Town Sentry: I wish we had done more... the guard was in no state to oppose the Empire. All we could do was allow your family to escape...
Rosamia: I see... so they got away safely. Thank you.
Walder: Bunch of low-down, dirty sons of dogs! Damn that Empire...
Vyrn: H-hey! You okay?! Rosamia?
Rosamia: I'll be fine... I need to turn around and face what's in front of me, no matter how bad it is.
Rosamia: They'll pay. The Empire came for my family. We'll burn them out root, branch, and leaf.
Walder: All right! That's what I like to hear, Rosamia! Those imperial dogs are gonna wish they never head of us!
Rosamia: Hehe. Thanks for everything, Walder! And the rest of you, too!
Lyria: Leave it to us! It'll be a cinch with all of us working together!
Walder's pushiness got results. Rosamia was finally able to confront her problem after running away for so long.
She was filled with fresh hope. Perhaps the day would come when she would meet her destiny and finally be reunited with her family.
