School idols reminds me of Lloyd Chudley Alexander's "The Chronicles of Prydain" and "The Foundling and Other Tales of Prydain". The good fought against Arawn Death-Lord and his suppression over the knowledge of farming, smithing, and other crafts. Good had prevailed. Sadly, Arawn's demise meant that (good) magic had gone packing back home to magic land. There was no evil magic to be fought then.
Unlike Nihilith, Arawn was the ultimate evil wizard guy in turning men into mere subjects and symbols of his power. Now that's a scary one.
