As a beginner, the quickest way to increase your power is to improve your weapon and summon grid. Fortunately, every element has farmable/free-to-play options which perform respectably (even compared to more exclusive builds) and can ultimately tackle any content in the game.

Listed below are the basic, pre-High Level (rank 101+) grids for each element as well as general notes on early-game progression. These grids are commonly called Omega grids (or Magna in Japanese) due to their focus on Omega Weapon Skills. For later-game progression, see the Team Building guide.

See the Damage Formula and related sources for the mathematics behind why these types of grids are effective. For a simple, visual guide, see "Understanding How Grids Work for New Players" (via reddit)

Overview

  • The grids represent developed Omega (M1) grids, using weapons accessible before reaching rank 101. Some weapons shown are from limited-time, rotating events, so accessible alternatives have been listed under the Filler Weapons sections.
  • Each grid lists 9 weapons out of 10 total slots. The tenth slot, your main weapon (mainhand), is limited to your Class weapon proficiencies, so its weapon skill will vary based on your options.
  • Weapon Skills are more important for party strength than raw stats. Four 0★ weapons each at Skill Level 4 will be stronger than one 3★ weapon at SL1.
  • There are four main types of weapon skills: Omega, Normal, EX (Unknown), and Seraphic.
    • Omega grids usually have 5-6 Omega weapons, 1-2 Normal weapons, 1-3 EX weapons, and 0-1 Seraphic weapon. (Only one Seraphic weapon exists for each element.)
    • In the following grids, Weapon s 1040103700.jpg Dagger of Bahamut Nova is listed as a Normal weapon, but any Bahamut Weapon is a viable option. A free Bahamut Weapon can be obtained through the side story What Makes the Sky Blue, unlocked after clearing Chapter 54 Story: Where There's Smoke .
      • In advanced grids, Bahamut Weapons will likely be replaced by damage cap-boosting Beast Weapons; however, the grids on this page are generally not at the level where they can replace Bahamut Weapons.
    • The EX weapons in grid examples are from Xeno Clashes, recurring limited-time events with unreliable schedules. Although powerful, they may be difficult for newer players to fully uncap and upgrade.
    • The Seraphic Weapons should always be in your grid as long as you have elemental advantage (Fire > Wind > Earth > Water; Light/Dark is superior to each other in your favor).
  • For a more in-depth look at different weapon series commonly used in grids, see Team Building § Weapons.

  • Main Summon and Support Summon slots are interchangeable. Having Tiamat Omega main × Grimnir support is no different from having Grimnir main × Tiamat Omega support.
  • The other four sub-summons only provide raw stats to the party unless it has a sub-aura, which only takes effect as a sub-summon. Furthermore, sub-summons do not need to be limited to same-element summons; same-element summons merely gain a 3-turn cut to initial cooldown. Picking sub-summons based on useful calls or raw stats, regardless of its element, is recommended.
  • For main summons, consider using an Elemental Boost summon over an Omega summon if your weapons' skill level isn't high enough, due to lower damage output. You can estimate your raw damage by setting a support to your party via the button above your weak point damage estimation. However, estimated damage doesn't reflect your damage accounting for a foe's defense. See Damage Formula for details.
  • Most Side Stories give a 3★ event summon copy after beating the Normal and Hard bosses, but not all of them are notable. Summons with elemental boost should be prioritized due to how the game calculates the damage.
  • Arcarum Summons provide unique yet powerful auras, call effects, and sub-auras. However, obtaining the base SR Arcarum summons is time-consuming as you're limited by a single daily expedition. Also, they cannot be uncapped normally; they require spending materials for each uncap. While their base stats are low as SRs, their unique benefits compensate for it.

  • Farm Normal and Hard raidsTiamat (Raid)
    Leviathan (Raid)
    Colossus (Raid)
    Yggdrasil (Raid)
    Luminiera (Raid)
    Celeste (Raid)
for Omega SR filler weapons and Omega Anima to host Omega raids.
  • Farm Omega raids for summon copies and Omega SSR weapon drops.
  • Progress in Main Quests for free 3★ Omega SSR weapon completion rewards every 4 chapters (up to Chapter 48), and to unlock more Side Stories.
  • You can purchase 4 copies of each Omega SSR weapon every month (except for Luminiera Sword Omega square.jpg Luminiera Sword Omega, which has a limited lifetime supply) with Renown Pendants, which are primarily farmed from Normal and Hard Raids. As you need to do these raids anyway, it is recommended to do them all every day and take advantage of the SR and R bonus pendants where possible.
    • Light and Dark weapons are highest-priority for Pendants due to the low drop rates of their best weapons. Since they also contain the most difficult bosses, it is often smoother to build one of the four main elements (Wind, Earth, Water, and Fire) before expanding to Light and Dark.
  • Clear Side Stories as you unlock them. Most Side Stories will give a 3★ copy of the event weapon after finishing the story, which can then be used as grid filler or main weapons until you acquire better, later-game options.
    • What Makes the Sky Blue provides a free Bahamut Nova Weapon of your choice. Bahamut Weapons are very powerful Normal skill weapons, although they require Rank 50 to craft and Rank 80 to acquire reliably. The weapon you will want to choose depends on the race(s) of your characters.
  • Craft Seraphic Weapons as soon as possible; they are very powerful when fighting under elemental advantage (a 10% boost to all damage at SR) and their base forms are easy to acquire.
  • Unlock Arcarum: The World Beyond. Although the quest to unlock the game mode is a bit difficult relative to the main story's difficulty, unlocking it provides many benefits. Besides random drops of Omega weapons and other higher-tier raid weapons, the Sephira Weapons obtained only in Arcarum have Omega skills as well, making them potential grid filler or main weapon options.

Filler weapons and summons listed under each example grid can be used in place of weapons or summons on the example grids. For the most part, they are a temporary stop-gap of power while you continue farming your grids. (Weapons/summons that see continued use are noted on their bullet points.)

With filler weapons, it's important to budget how much fodder you invest in upgrading their skills, keeping in mind that they may eventually be used as fodder themselves. Ultimately, only you can weigh the opportunity cost of the fodder versus immediate power, but some recommendations are listed below:

  • Upgrade your weapons to their max EXP/Level as the base stats help and Weapon s 1030899000.jpg Angel Weapons are plentiful.
  • Upgrade Rarity SR.png weapon skills to at least SL2 (SL3 is recommended, above SL4 is not recommended).
  • Upgrade Rarity SSR.png weapon skills to at least SL3 (SL4 is recommended, above SL7 is not recommended).
  • For the most part, Premium Draw weapons are better reduced than foddered for skill levels, so any fodder invested in their skills will likely be lost.
    • Some Premium Draw weapons are used in Primal grids or as main weapons; research individual weapons before reducing.
  • Uncapping filler weapons is a low priority unless they might see continued use as a main weapon.

Filler summons can be used as a main summon until you have at least 5 Omega weapons on the grid and the respective 3★ Omega summon. They can also be used in place of the recommended support summons, though some filler summons listed have additional requirements to reach full strength.

Summons labeled Farmable can either be farmed from events or are given out as 3★ rewards from clearing Side Stories; their auras list their 3★ versions. Summons that come from Premium Draw have their 0★-2★ aura versions listed.

A few terms, abbreviations, and acronyms that appear on the page:

  • Enmity: The name for weapon skills that boost ATK proportional to how close the party is to 0% HP. Broadly refers to anything that synergizes with low-HP playstyles. Fire, Wind, and Dark Omega grids are notable contenders for Enmity-based playstyle. Stamina is the opposite of Enmity.
  • FLB: Short for Final Level Break, which refers to 4★ uncaps. They require materials rather than duplicate copies.
  • HL: Short for High Level, or content unlocked after reaching Rank 101. In-game, such content is typically labeled "Impossible".
  • OTK: Short for One-Turn Kill. Because much of the game comes down to efficiency and speed, during particularly grind-heavy events (such as Unite and Fight), a lot of emphasis is placed on strong parties capable of OTKs.
  • M2: Short for Omega Impossible II (Magna II) raids: Shiva, Europa, Alexiel, Grimnir, Metatron, and Avatar. Unlocked after reaching rank 120. With a few exceptions, they drop weapons that are considered the "next tier" for Omega grids.
  • Mainhand: Colloquial term for main weapon.
  • PG: Short for Proving Grounds, a somewhat challenging solo event that provides EX weapons of varying usefulness.
  • RotB: Short for Rise of the Beasts, a recurring event that provides several lucrative rewards, including Beast Weapons.
  • Stamina: Also known as Strength. The name for weapon skills that boost ATK proportional to how close the party is to 100% HP. Broadly refers to anything that synergizes with maintaining high HP. Water, Earth, and Light Omega grids are notable contenders for Stamina-based playstyle. Enmity is the opposite of Stamina.

  • Colossus Cane Omega square.jpg Colossus Cane Omega is the easier Omega grid to farm and remains useful in one-turn content. However, in longer battles, it loses out in damage to an Ancient Ecke Sachs grid. Generally, 1-2 5★ Canes are kept in High Level grids for OTK purposes.
  • Ancient Ecke Sachs square.jpg Ancient Ecke Sachs (AES) has two ATK modifiers (Medium ATK/Crit + Small Enmity), and its Enmity modifier makes it stronger than Colossus Canes in longer battles. AES are rather difficult to farm, but they carry over into HL grids; M2 Fire has generally fallen out in favor of AES grids.
  • Weapon s 1040511400.jpg Summer's Mirage is an exceptional Omega weapon from Rise of the Beasts and can be easily 4★ uncapped. It is the highest-priority weapon for new players and should be 4★ uncapped ASAP for its C.A.-boosting weapon skill.
  • True Infernal Flamescythe square.jpg True Infernal Flamescythe and Wrathfire Longblade square.jpg Wrathfire Longblade are powerful EX weapons from Xeno Ifrit Clash that boast stronger ATK modifiers than regular EX weapons. However, its farming period is limited, making it difficult for new players to obtain a fully-uncapped copy.
  • In general, Summon s 2040185000.jpg Shiva (Summon)Main Aura120% boost to Fire Elemental ATK. is unparalleled due to the strength of his call. As a result, using a support Shiva so his call can be used on Turn 1 is preferable.

  • Tiamat Bolt Omega square.jpg Tiamat Bolt Omega is the backbone of Omega Wind grids; it has two ATK modifiers (Medium ATK + Small Enmity), making it stronger than a Tiamat Gauntlet's single Big ATK modifier in any situation where your party loses HP. 3 Bolts will be kept in advanced grids, while the others will be replaced by Last Storm Harp square.jpg Last Storm Harp and Weapon s 1040212600.jpg Spear of Renunciation.
  • Weapon s 1040809900.jpg Spring's Whisperings is an Omega weapon from Rise of the Beasts and has low 4★ uncap requirements, making it more powerful than a Bolt until HL. It is situationally useful in HL grids for its boost to HP and multi-attack in its second skill, but for the most part, it will be replaced by other Omega weapons.
  • Weapon s 1040611100.jpg Arkab Prior and True Conviction Flashspear square.jpg True Conviction Flashspear are powerful EX weapons from Xeno Sagittarius Clash that boast stronger ATK modifiers than regular EX weapons. However, its farming period is limited, making it difficult for new players to obtain a fully-uncapped copy.

  • Luminiera Bolt Omega square.jpg Luminiera Bolt Omega is the standard weapon for pre-HL grids, with a single Big ATK skill and higher base stats than Lumi Harps.
  • Luminiera Sword Omega square.jpg Luminiera Sword Omega is a weak weapon before getting its 4★ uncap, after which it becomes extremely powerful. Its second skill (only unlocked after reaching Lv. 120) adds a Small Normal ATK skill, which takes over the role usually played by a Bahamut Weapon.
  • True Purity Sunblade square.jpg True Purity Sunblade and Weapon s 1040511600.jpg Flamma Orbis are powerful EX weapons from Xeno Corow Clash that boast stronger ATK modifiers than regular EX weapons. However, its farming period is limited, making it difficult for new players to obtain a fully-uncapped copy.
    • In Sword grids, the Sunblade is the preferred EX weapon for synergy with Weapon s 1040008000.jpg Cosmic Sword.
  • Huanglong Gauntlet square.jpg Huanglong Gauntlet is a Beast Weapon purchased through the Shop, using materials gathered from Huanglong (Raid). It has a Big EX ATK modifier (as opposed to Xeno's Massive EX ATK), but has a second skill that reduces Dark DMG taken. Useful for weaker players or in difficult solo content.
  • Weapon s 1040008000.jpg Cosmic Sword can be obtained through Grand Order (Raid). Cosmic Weapons grow stronger by having more weapons of the same type on the grid—making Lumi Sword grid an ideal place
