Overview

The Aqours Third-Years are a free character from the side story Love Live! Sunshine!! Aqours Sky-High!. Their strength comes from their versatility, dabbling a bit in buffing, debuffing, defensive, and healing roles. For players with few Fire characters, or in difficult battles where their versatility gets a chance to shine, the Third-Years are a handy character to have. However, the low potency of all their abilities make them easily overshadowed by characters who excel at a specific role.

New players may have trouble unlocking them due to the relatively high difficulty of their side story's free quests, making them less accessible than they might appear.

Strengths

  • Jack-of-all-trades with a wide range of utility and a very simple, gimmick-free kit.
  • Can sustain parties through a combination of party-wide healing, damage cuts, and debuff immunity.
  • Charge Attack provides party-wide 15% Fire ATK UpFire ATK is boosted

Weaknesses

  • Provide some healing support, but its low healing cap makes them unable to serve as main healers.
  • Have no innate means of redirecting attacks towards themselves to make use of  Uranohoshi Third-YearsBoost to DEF based on how low Third-Years' HP is.

How to Play

Despite having some glaring weaknesses in regular play, the Third-Years excel in solo play where their versatility serves as backup for characters that specialize in a certain role.

Give Me a Hug

Although this skill provides a fairly low all-elemental Damage Cut which does not stack with most other skill-based all-elemental cuts, there are ways to maximize the Third-Years' damage mitigation. For example, elemental damage cuts (such as 20% Wind CutWind DMG is cut 20%

), RepelReflects DMG
Damage Cut reducing damage taken and reflecting attacks.
Warning! Does not work for Plain Damage!
, and all-elemental cuts from Charge Attacks or summon calls will stack with this skill.

Despite its low damage mitigation, the skill also has a low 4-turn cooldown. This allows it to be used more regularly compared to  PhalanxAll parties gain 50% DMG CutTaking 50% less DMG

, which has a 5-turn cooldown. In difficult battles, you can set up a rather efficient Damage Cut rotation between a Knight-class line MC, the Third-Years, and some 3★  Peridot CarbuncleBreeze Blast All allies gain 50% Wind ATK UpWind ATK is boosted

Synergy

Due to the all-around versatility of the unit, the Aqours Third-Years can fit into most teams. Rather, a better reason to not use them is if another character or class does better than they do. Nevertheless, they still enjoy some synergies with other characters.

  • Ultima Spear/Gun Lineups: Naturally fits into such teams as they are proficient in such weapons.
  • Shiva: Shiva's support skill benefits greatly with their charge attack, which provides 15% Fire ATK UpFire ATK is boosted
