A Sweltering Eternal Getaway - Chapter 6: All Ends Well at the Hot Springs - Episode 3

As he tends to the faint Audric, Victor decides to give becoming a knight for the king some consideration. When he finds Seofon and company in the changing room, Victor informs them that the fireworks festival may have to be canceled due to a plan he had set up ahead of time. Meanwhile, Albert and Yurius are making preparations for the festival when a monster appears at the fireworks launch site.

Audric: Sorry... I'm causing so much trouble...
Victor: Just shut up and lie down!
We need a damp towel!
Jeno: Use this!
Victor and Jeno haul Audric out of the bath and into the changing room, fanning the king to help him cool down.
Victor: Can't leave you alone for a second, can I? If you were feeling dizzy, you should've said something!
Audric: But... we don't get to talk every day...
Victor: Well we can't talk if you're passed out either! Did you think about that?
Jeno: Both of you, please. It was my fault that I failed to notice.
Audric: It's not your fault, Sir Jeno... It's because I kept it to myself...
Victor: Argh, stop it! Do you have no sense of shame?
Audric: S-sorry...
Victor: Sigh... Good grief. How can anyone be so pathetic?
Victor: You can't look people in the eye and talk to them. You can't go to a gathering of nobles without disappearing halfway through.
Victor: It was always me who entertained the guests! I had to lie and tell them you weren't feeling well!
Audric: Yes... I know.
Victor: Whenever something wrong happens, you just shut yourself in the library. And then you catch a cold by morning—this happened on multiple occasions.
Victor: You're way too much work! How about you act more like an older brother for once?
Audric: Okay...
Unable to hide his irritation, Victor stands up abruptly and begins to pace around the changing room.
Vyrn: Ack! He's comin' over here!
Victor: Hey. What do you think you're doing there?

Seofon: Well, uh.... We were juuust thinking of having a nice soak in the bath...

Choose: Sorry...

Seofon and company sheepishly come out from their hiding place behind the shelf.
Victor: Tch... No wonder I thought I saw some familiar faces here and there.
Feower: If you need ice, I can go get some.
Victor: No need. His face isn't as red anymore.
Vyrn: But you know, I'm glad to see that you're actually nice to your brother!
Victor: Hmph... Please. I'm only getting forced to babysit this incompetent weakling as his younger brother.
Victor: Thanks to having this pathetic excuse of an older brother, I've always had the shorter end of the stick.
Victor: Every time he ran away, I was the one who had to run around the castle to find him. And after he ascended the throne, I was the one who gave him advice on what to do.
Victor: I hated my older brother! He's a crybaby, a coward, and a good-for-nothing who only existed to disappoint me!
Audric: I'm the king of Levin.
Audric: I made the choice to become king. I don't plan to give up the throne to anyone.
Victor: He's always been... like that...
Seofon: I don't mean to be impertinent, but what if you tried being honest? You want to get to know your brother better, don't you?
Feower: Being stubborn won't help the two of you to repair the relationship, much less get along better.
Victor: Quiet! Don't tell me what to do!
Victor turns away from them.
Victor: (I promised Father...)
Father: Victor. Someday when the crown has passed, I hope you will continue to look after Audric.
Father: The world is a harsh place, where I'm afraid Audric will not be able to survive alone. I want you to protect him.
Victor: (But what I myself truly wish for... is...)
Audric: Thank you. I feel much better now.
Jeno: I'm glad you've recovered, Your Majesty. From now on, I will ensure that you do not stay in the heat past your physical limit.
Victor: Tch...
Victor: Hey. Jeno, was it? How exactly do you become a knight for the king?
Jeno: Will you take on the role?
Victor: I didn't say I would! I'm just asking for reference.
Audric: You're interested? But why?
Victor: There is no need for two kings in a single land. If you are so inclined to continue being king, Brother, then I have no choice but to seek a different path.
Audric: So you're accepting me as king?
Victor: I have always believed Father's ideals to be best for the country. I don't know if your ideas for Levin will be good for it or not.
Victor: But I saw the smiles of the people in the hot spring district.
Victor: And from that, I thought, maybe I can try placing my trust in you.
Audric: I see. I'm surprised—I thought you would be against everything I did.
Audric: You were the one who's worked hard up until now to someday ascend the throne, so to you, I'm sure I was nothing but an obstacle in your path...
Victor: That's not how I see you.
Audric: Huh?
Victor: I only worked toward the throne because I thought you would never be fit to be king.
Victor: You have no idea how humiliating it was for me when Father told me to look after you.
Audric: Right...
Victor: If you've decided to be king out of your own free will, Brother, I won't stop you. In exchange...
Victor: Don't show that pathetic side of yours anymore. If you make any judgments unfit for a king, then I'm going to steal the crown from you.
Audric: Thank you. I'll strive to become a king whom you can be proud of, Victor.
Jeno: Hm?
Just then, the sudden sound of fireworks being launched interrupts them. Audric and company lift their eyes to the sky.
Audric: It appears they're testing the fireworks. It's about time for the fireworks festival to begin, isn't it?
Audric: Victor, all of us are planning to attend the festival together. Would you like to join?
Victor: Ah, I suppose I wouldn't mind...
Victor: Wait, the fireworks festival... It's already time?
Audric: Victor? Is something wrong?
Victor: Well, um...
Victor: I'm sorry, Brother... At this rate, the fireworks festival may have to be canceled.
Audric: What do you mean?
Albert: And... there!
Yurius: Is this all for the equipment needed for launching the fireworks?
Albert: Yeah, thanks for the help.
Albert and Yurius are at the shore of the river running along the hot spring district, preparing for the fireworks festival.
Albert once worked as an apprentice under a pyrotechnician when he went to visit Auguste, a popular tourist destination.
He had relayed the skills he learned to artisans in Levin after, and tonight is the first time they are attempting to adopt the practice in the form of a festival.
Albert is at the launch site, overseeing the area and making sure everything is in order.
Albert: Shouldn't you be on your way? You want to keep an eye on the venue, don't you?
Yurius: Yes, there is a high possibility His Highness will be there. Don't worry—I have my subordinates on the watch.
Albert: Ah, I see. You want to avoid any direct contact.
As they continue their preparations, a low rumble echoes across the sky above them.
Yurius: Thunder was rumbling this morning as well. It seems the thunderclouds are back.
Albert: A bit of wind and rain shouldn't be a problem for the fireworks, but let's hope nothing beyond that occurs.
Yurius: Right.
Hm?
Yurius notices a suspicious flash of light coming from a dark hill nearby.
Yurius: Albert, are you planning to launch fireworks from over there as well?
Albert: No. We'll only be launching from this area—
Sky Knight: There's trouble, Captain Albert! A monster has been spotted on top of the hill!
Albert: Monster? Can the knights not take care of it?
Sky Knight: The thing is, lightning magic does not appear to be effective against it. Its electrical discharge is too strong for us to get any closer!
Yurius: Just what kind of monster could—
Yurius: ...!
Mysterious Monster: ...!
Albert: Is that the monster? It's coming this way!
