Alchemist Astray - Chapter 6: The Acceptance of Self - Episode 3

Clarisse succeeds in using existential dissolution to defeat Nigredo and aid in Cagliostro's revival. Despite this, Paracelsus seems eerily delighted.

Clarisse: Try this one on for size!
Lyria: ...
Vyrn: ...
Deliford: ...
Paracelsus: How could this possibly be happening?
Clarisse causes Nigredo to decompose with increasing speed.
The sheer force of her destruction leaves Paracelsus's mouth gaping.
Clarisse: And now for the grand finale!
Lyria: Clarisse, wait! You can't!
Vyrn: Yeah! Cagliostro's soul is still in there somewhere!
Clarisse: Don't you worry! It'll all be okay as long as we hurry! Here comes the big kapow!
With one last blow, Nigredo crumbles to dust.
Clarisse: And the winner is: me!
Vyrn: But what about Cagliostro?
???: Cough, cough... Achoo!
Cagliostro: You certainly know how to make a mess of things.
Lyria: Huh? Cagliostro!
Clarisse: Are you okay? I tried to do as you said and kapowed away everything but what was needed.
Cagliostro: I am—thanks to you. In fact I'm feeling better than ever.
Cagliostro: I knew you'd figure it out eventually. You really are just like that sister of mine.
Clarisse: Ahaha. Yeah, I'm just no good with using my head.
Clarisse: So I did what I could and gave all I had.
Clarisse: And then all I had to do was... wing it, I guess. Somehow you sorta kinda get the hang of it.
Cagliostro: Tsk. I can't stand you hands-on types.
Vyrn: Hey, uhh, can someone fill me in on what just happened here?
Cagliostro: Essentially, she deconstructed and reduced everything that wasn't my soul.
Cagliostro: The decomposition of matter beyond what's possible with physical tools...
Cagliostro: She succeeded in performing maximum alchemic decay: existential dissolution.
Vyrn: And what's that in normal speak?
Cagliostro: Hmm, all right. Let me ask you this: can you turn mixed-fruit punch back into pure apple juice?
Vyrn: Duh. No way. The apple's all mixed up with the other juices.
Cagliostro: Ordinarily, yes.
Cagliostro: But what if I told you it was possible to remove everything but the apple juice from the drink?
Vyrn: Well, I guess that would make it apple juice then. But what's that got to do with...
Vyrn: Wait, don't tell me that's what she...
Cagliostro: That's what she did, all right. Nigredo was the fruit punch.
Cagliostro: And Clarisse removed everything but the apple juice—my soul.
Cagliostro: I took care of the rest from my end.
Cagliostro: I transmuted a new body for myself using the matter that was once Nigredo. Then I slipped my soul into the body and here I am.
Cagliostro: I'll be honest though; it was quite the gamble.
Cagliostro: Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. And this time I gained more than just a regular-old body.
Cagliostro: Not only do I feel better than ever, but the decay from the philosopher's stone's dark phase can't affect me anymore.
Cagliostro: After all, my body's practically made of philosopher's stone essence now.
Paracelsus: How... How could my plan have failed?
Cagliostro: Doesn't take a genius to figure that one out.
Cagliostro: You underestimated Clarisse. No... you underestimated us.
Cagliostro: Simple as that.
Paracelsus: Haha. Is that so? I see. Yes, I believe you're right.
Cagliostro: Now... I hope you realize the amount of pain you've just wrought yourself into.
Cagliostro: Get ready, and enjoy it while it lasts.
As Cagliostro gives a sly grin, (Captain) and company point their blades toward Paracelsus.
Paracelsus: Humph.
Paracelsus, however, seems eerily calm.
