Auguste of the Dead - Chapter 3: Resident Meg - Episode 4

On the roof, Roger gets on the helicopter and attempts to escape by himself. The helicopter is shot down, however, by a zombicopter piloted by the chairperson of the Auguste Tourism Association. He reveals himself as the mad scientist behind the zombie situation and tells the others about the Auguste Purification Plan—a scheme he devised to clean the Auguste seas of "filth" by first turning all living things into zombies. Kolulu goes up against the attacking zombies, while the captain and Meg deal with the zombicopter.

The summer sun shines down on the survivors as they step out onto the roof of the building.
Meg: So this is a helicopter?
Mari: I've seen it before. The long wings on top rotate when it flies.
Ellen: Yes, those make the propeller. This helicopter's flown across Auguste quite a few times.
Ellen: It makes moving between islands a lot easier, and also allows us to observe the ocean's surface from a bird's-eye view.
Ellen: It can't go long distances so it's no match for an airship, of course, but more than enough for traveling within a small area.
It is (Captain) and company's first time seeing such a curious aircraft.
Vyrn: Anyway, you're gonna be piloting this for us, right?
Ellen: Actually... I don't have much confidence in my piloting skills. I haven't had much practice, you see...
Vyrn: Are you serious! And you want us to sit in it so we can all plummet to the bottom of the skies?
Roger: Gahahaha! Lucky I'm here, eh?
Vyrn: Wha? You mean you can drive this thing, Roger?
Roger: Hah. I could pilot a helicopter in my sleep!
Vyrn: No way!
Ellen: Then I'll leave the piloting to you! With this, we'll whip up a cure on the other island and be back in no time!
Roger: Guess I have no choice... Lemme take a look at a few things. Wait here.
Vyrn: Heh, guess the mister's not just an old grouch! Now I'm kinda glad he came with us!
Meg: Yeah. It's great that all of us are working together to protect Auguste.
Roger hops on the helicopter and begins to familiarize himself with it while the others wait patiently.
Meg: Ellen. Earlier, you mentioned something about someone planning this whole zombie incident, didn't you?
Ellen: I did... And I'm afraid I have an idea who that person might be too.
Ellen: I don't have any solid evidence, but there's someone highly suspicious.
Ellen: You see, in order to turn a cleaner fish into a zombie and have it be able to fly, you would need a decent amount of knowledge on sea creatures.
Vyrn: Are you sayin' that the culprit is someone from the research center?
Ellen: No, not from the center—besides, everyone who worked here has been zombified already.
Ellen: But there's someone else who went in and out of this facility quite often.
Just as Ellen finishes her sentence, the propeller on the helicopter begins to move, rotating with incredible force.
Vyrn: Wh-whoa... Are we really gonna fly on this thing?
Ellen: Come on, let's get in. I'll tell you the rest once we're on the helicopter!
Meg: Is it just me... or is the helicopter already hovering in the air?
The helicopter lifts off slightly from the roof, drifting up until it's flying above the crew's heads.
Ellen: Hey, wait! We haven't gotten on board yet!
Roger: Bwahahaha! You think I'd actually agree to help y'all make a cure? We don't even know if it'll work!
Vyrn: You're not thinkin' of leaving without us, are ya?
Roger: 'Course I am! You guys were plannin' to come back after making the cure. Why would I wanna come back to this wasteland again?
Ellen: How dare you! You should be ashamed of yourself!
Roger: Auguste's finished! Y'all can rot here while I make my escape as the sole survivor!
Meg: ...!
Catura: Those who only want to save themselves... never actually make it out. So it's probably... not a good idea...
Meg: Wait a minute! Please, come back! It's for your own good!
Meg desperately calls out to Roger, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Ellen notices something as she looks up at the aircraft overhead.
Ellen: Is that...
Lyria: What's the matter?
Ellen: I thought I saw a shadow in the backseat...
Roger: Heheheh. Fools... You can all turn into zombies and kick the bucket on this island.
Grasping the cyclic firmly, Roger focuses his attention on the control panel in front of him, failing to notice the figure rising up from the seat behind.
Zombie Researcher: Grrrrr...
Roger: Hm? That was a weird sound just now. They better have been doing routine maintenance on this helicopter.
Zombie Researcher: Graaaah!
Roger: Wha! A zombie? Aaah... Aaaaaaah!
Meg: What's happening? The helicopter's swaying from side to side... Is that how it's supposed to fly?
Ellen: Definitely not! The attitude control's not right... It's going to crash!
Just then, they hear a sharp whoosh as something cuts through the air at an astonishing speed, colliding with the helicopter.
Vyrn: What the! Something blew up!
Roger: Aaaaaah!
A part of the helicopter explodes, causing the aircraft to spin out of control toward the ocean, eventually vanishing into the distance.
Finally, the resounding blast they hear from afar tells (Captain) and company that the aircraft is no more.
Meg: The helicopter went down... Just what could have caused it to go out of control like that?
Lyria: L-look! Over there in the sky!
Vyrn: What the! Another helicopter? No, wait... It's a huge fish!
Meg: What... is that?
Meg: What in the skies is that!
What the crew see heading toward them is a mysterious flying object—something resembling a fish, yet also strangely similar to a helicopter.
???: Heh-heh-heh. Did you witness my power just now?
Ellen: Everyone! That's the suspicious person I was telling you about...
Ellen: The chairperson of the Auguste Tourism Association!
Meg: The tourism association's chairperson? But why would someone like that...
Chairperson: Ah, I see the scientist and all of you are still safe. But you won't be getting off this island so easily.
Ellen: What are you scheming! You made the helicopter crash just now, didn't you? And... what is that thing you're riding on?
Chairperson: Indeed! I was the one who fired a missile into the helicopter!
Chairperson: With this zombicopter!
The Three: Zombicopter?
Meg: Wh-what exactly is it? It doesn't look like anything that should belong to this world...
Chairperson: I resurrected the carcass of a giant, vengeful bonito as a zombie and gave it a mecha form!
Chairperson: Its biological abilities in attitude control greatly reduce the burden on the pilot.
Chairperson: It's a new kind of helicopter where the qualities of zombie and mecha can be used to their full potential!
Vyrn: You hollowed out a bonito carcass so you could ride inside of it? Sheesh, how'd you even come up with that kinda idea!
Ellen: You kept coming to the research center saying you were here for resources to promote tourism. But you were actually stealing our data, weren't you!
Chairperson: I was merely using the data as reference. Your research results and the helicopter you had on hand proved to be valuable material.
Chairperson: Now that I have everything in my head, I feel nothing but gratitude toward you. Truly.
Chairperson: After all, it's thanks to you and your team that I was able to create this zombie virus—something effective on almost all living things in Auguste!
Ellen: What is your objective? We only agreed to lend our help because you said it was for boosting Auguste's tourism!
Chairperson: You still don't understand? Just look at this ocean... Look at Auguste.
Chairperson: This place is swimming with filth! To a point that's irreversible!
Chairperson: It's because of those horrid creatures that keep appearing year after year that our reputation took a plunge. We've lost our status as a popular tourist destination!
Chairperson: All we have left here is chaos! And that's when I finally realized that we need to wipe the slate—or the ocean—clean!
Chairperson: We have to start from zero again! That's how I came up with the Auguste Purification Plan.
Ellen: The Auguste Purification Plan?
Chairperson: I turn every living creature into a zombie and return them to the ocean once they've rotten. That's step one!
Chairperson: I started by taking the zombie virus I developed and spreading it throughout the ocean. This is still ongoing, of course!
Chairperson: Step two happens in the water! The ocean will become a soup made from the remains of creatures that were once alive, and new life-forms will be born from it!
Chairperson: With this new life, peace will be restored to Auguste, and this island will go back to being the most abundant place in all the skies!
Chairperson: And that's step three! Restoring our glory is the key to accomplishing the Auguste Purification Plan!
Meg: How terrible...
Chairperson: Now you know why I absolutely cannot let any of you get away. So take this!
Gran is the Main Character

Meg: Watch out!
Djeeta is the Main Character

Meg: Watch out!
(Captain) and company manage to dodge an attack from the zombicopter by a hair's breadth. A blast from where the attack hit rocks the area.
Vyrn: Wh-what was that? It almost looked like a fish. Don't tell me...
Chairperson: Within this machine is a stock of zombie fish, all infused with explosives. I call this the zombie fish missile!
Meg: That's awful... They were just normal fish swimming in the ocean!
Chairperson: All zombified things have no choice but to do as I say. Take a look around!
At the chairperson's cry, zombie fish begin to gather in large swarms, flying across the sky.
Kolulu: That's a lot of them! Are they all after us?
  1. Kolulu, you take that side!
  2. I'll take down the zombicopter with Meg!

Choose: Kolulu, you take that side!

Kolulu: Got it, leave it to me! They can't bite into my body if I harden it!
Meg: Okay, then (Captain) and I will take down that thing!
Go to "Continue 1"

Choose: I'll take down the zombicopter with Meg!

Kolulu: Roger that! Leave these things to me then. I'll harden my body and knock them all down!
Meg: Okay, (Captain)! Let's defeat this thing once and for all!

Continue 1

Mari: Meg! Be careful!
Chairperson: Now, sink to the bottom of the ocean together with the zombies... and become the food we need for a new Auguste!
