Auguste of the Dead - Opening

The crew is at Golonzo for some ship maintenance when a letter addressed to Meg arrives. The correspondence is from Mari, a special friend of Meg's, who writes about the lack of tourists in Auguste this year. At Rackam's suggestion, (Captain) decides to pay Auguste a visit with part of the crew while the rest wait for the Grandcypher's repairs.

The Grandcypher is at Golonzo Island to undergo some major repairs and maintenance after sailing with the crew through thick and thin.
As craftsmen are busy running back and forth from the ship, (Captain) and company watch from the side.
Vyrn: Boy, the craftsmen at Golonzo sure know what they're doin'. Leaves us twiddlin' our thumbs though.
Lyria: If only we could give Rackam and the craftsmen a hand too.
Vyrn: Yeah, but we'd probably just get in their way. It feels weird just standin' here with nothing to do though.
Craftsman: Hello! I have a letter addressed to your crew. Mind if I hand that over to you now?
Vyrn: You do? Thanks for bringin' it all the way here. Who's it from?
Craftsman: Let's see... Says it's from "Marilyn Squallfield."
Lyria: Marilyn? Hmm... Do we know someone by that name?
Vyrn: Doesn't ring a bell... Who's the letter addressed to?
Craftsman: It's for... Margaret. Margaret Bluemarine.
Vyrn: Margaret Bluemarine? We don't have anyone like that on our ship. Are you sure we're the crew you're lookin' for?
Craftsman: Huh? That's strange. I was told to deliver this letter to your crew specifically.
Craftsman: Maybe there's been some miscommunication. In that case, I'll hold on to the letter. Sorry to have bothered you.
The craftsman puts the letter back in his bag and turns to leave.
???: Hey, wait!
A girl and a flying shark suddenly appear, running after the retreating craftsman.
Vyrn: Whoa! What's this all about?
Ursula: Sharrrk! Sharrrk!
Meg: Me, I'm Margaret! That's my letter, it was sent for me!
Craftsman: Oh, good. Here you go then.
The girl thanks the deliveryman and receives the letter from him.
Meg: Meg here! And this is my shark friend, Ursula!
Meg: I'm your extra ordinary girl who somehow joined an extraordinary skyfaring crew after, well, some things happened!
Meg: I've still got a lot to learn about skyfaring, of course.
Meg: But I'm doing my best to help every day!
Ever since she was little, Meg had always dreamed of visiting the beaches of Auguste. But before long, she had somehow overshot that goal, growing into a stalwart warrior.
With her trusty sideshark on one arm, she single-handedly defeated a colossal threat to Auguste and was lauded as a hero.
Vyrn: I didn't know that was your name, Meg. Then who's this Marilyn person?
Lyria: Oh, I know! It's Mari, isn't it?
Meg: Bingo! I've been exchanging letters with Mari since I started traveling with all of you.
Vyrn: Oh, your lady friend we hung out with before! I remember her.
Meg: Yeah! Mari decided to move to Auguste right after we last saw her, so she's living there now.
Lyria: I see! Does that mean the letter was sent all the way from Auguste?
Meg: Yep! Mari always tells me about what it's like to live in Auguste, right down to the last detail.
Vyrn: You really do like Auguste, don'tcha?
Meg happily digs into the envelope and begins to read the letter.
Lyria: Hehe. Who doesn't like Auguste, right?
Vyrn: Haha, that's true!
Vyrn: I'm just relieved to see Meg looking so excited about Auguste. I mean, she's pretty different when we're doin' other stuff.
Vyrn: Like when we're on a job and fighting monsters...
Monster: Grooooar!
Lyria: It's gigantic... Be careful, everyone!
Vyrn: Stay alert! From what we heard, this big guy can get pretty crazy!
Meg: This monster... If we don't take care of it here, who knows if it'll attack Auguste someday!
Vyrn: Hm? What's that?
Meg: Come on, Ursula!
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Vyrn: Whoa, wait up! Don't just charge in by yourself!
Meg: Haaaah! Dieee!
Monster: Graaaaagh!

Meg: Wheeew!
Lyria: Oh, wow!
Vyrn: What the... That was a crazy thing to do. Looked pretty dangerous if you ask me...
Meg: Oh, good! Glad that worked!
Vyrn: Whaddya mean that worked? You gotta stop doin' that on your own!
Meg: S-sorry... I was just worried that the monster would run off to Auguste if I didn't finish it here.
Vyrn: That's what you say every single time. Auguste's way too far for this thing to get there!
Lyria: Now, now... Let's calm down a bit, Vyrn.
Lyria: After all, Meg did agree to join us so that she could get stronger and protect Auguste.
Vyrn: Sigh... Yeah, okay. Sorry if I was a bit harsh.
Just then, the trees in the area begin to sway, and a large shadow leaps out at the crew.
Another Monster: Graaaaah!
Meg: That monster! Looks like it could show up in Auguste any day now!
Vyrn: Like heck it would!
Another Monster: Graaaaah!
Meg: You're not getting away!
Vyrn: Eek!
Meg: Hraaaaah!
Vyrn: What did I just tell ya about goin' off by yourself!
Cloaked in a menacing aura, Meg continues to chase after the monster.
Vyrn: Seriously, being that obsessed can't be normal... Freaks me out every time.
Meg: How could you say that? I mean, sure my arm turns into a shark sometimes, but I'm just an ordinary girl!
Vyrn: (She's gotta be joking, right?)
Lyria: Ahaha... Um, by the way, what did Mari say in her letter?
Meg: Oh, right. It seems like it was written a while back already.
Meg: She says that they're expecting less tourists this year during the vacation season.
Vyrn: That's surprising. Isn't Auguste always teeming with tourists around this time of year?
Meg: Mari writes that now's a good time to go and relax there, but she didn't say why exactly.
Meg: I wonder if something happened.
  1. You wanna drop by Auguste?
  2. You wanna go see Mari?

Choose: You wanna drop by Auguste?

Meg: Yeah, that'd be nice. I'd like to see Mari again and hit the beach.
Meg: Besides...
Lyria: Besides?
Go to "Continue 1"

Choose: You wanna go see Mari?

Meg: Of course I do!
Meg: I hope she's doing okay! It'd be nice if we could hit the beach together again.
Meg: Oh, but...
Vyrn: But what?

Continue 1

Meg: Some kind of dangerous thing might appear in Auguste again. I've gotta be ready to crush it when that happens!
Vyrn: Maybe it's just me, but you sure don't sound like you wanna go to Auguste for an actual vacation.
Lyria: Well, we have to wait for the Grandcypher to get fixed up anyway, so it'll still be a while.
Vyrn: Yeah. And we've finished all our jobs for now, so let's just take it easy here for a bit.
Not long after, however, Vyrn comes flying back to the crew from wherever he had gone.
Vyrn: Listen, you guys! I was just talkin' to Rackam!
Meg: What's the matter?
Vyrn: He told us to go on without him to Auguste first while he finishes up with the ship's repairs!
Lyria: Oh! Is he sure?
Vyrn: Yeah, he said we'd be better off spendin' our time in Auguste anyway, so we should go on ahead!
Vyrn: Once the repairs are done, Rackam and the others can take the Grandcypher and meet us there.
Lyria: But how are we going to get to Auguste without the Grandcypher?
Vyrn: Rackam said his friend happens to be heading to someplace around there, and that he'll be glad to drop us off on the way!
Meg: Great! So I guess we're off?
Vyrn: Yep! An early start to our summer vacation!
And so the crew decides to split up for the time being, with Meg, (Captain), and company departing from Golonzo first.
Their eyes sparkle with anticipation for what awaits them in the Auguste Isles.
