Balmy Breeze and Foamy Deep - Chapter 5: Recipe for a Bonito - Episode 1

Kaz prepares a banquet to give everyone energy for their rematch with the bonito. At the beach house kitchen, he teaches Elmott how to use his flames to make bonito fillet.

Sierokarte: So Jin, you're finally ready to challenge the bonito again?
Eugen: Aye. We'd like to help Jin prepare, but our obligations at the beach house might make that difficult.
Sierokarte: Gotcha!
Sierokarte: They say only a handful of fishermen have ever managed to catch a bonito, so I'm willing to make an exception here.
Sierokarte: Don't worry about your work for now. Just focus on helping Jin!
Eugen: You have my thanks, Siero!
Kaz: Hey, Jin!
Jin: Kaz! How are you faring?
Kaz: Fine, but I need to talk to you about the bonito. It'll take both brains and brawn to catch it!
Eugen: Indeed. Angling this fish isn't going to be easy.
Kaz: I figured you should eat something to boost your strength before you head out to sea.
Kaz: The cooking of a bumpkin like me isn't much, but I don't want you leaving on an empty stomach. You need to be prepared.
Jin: You have my gratitude!
Vyrn: Awesome! I can't wait, Mr. Fisherman!
Sierokarte: Elmott, can I borrow you for a moment?
Elmott: What's up? The day's just about over, isn't it?
Sierokarte: Yep! But Kaz is going to be making us a big banquet today!
Sierokarte: I'm letting him use the kitchen, so please show him where everything is.
Elmott: Huh? Why me?
Sierokarte: Glad to hear it's not a problem! Later!
Elmott: Hey, wait a sec! Argh, she's already gone...
Kaz: Sorry for the trouble, kiddo! Go easy on me, now. Just looking to cook something good, is all.
Elmott: You're the old fisherman Jin mentioned? Are you gonna be okay? I heard you're sick or something.
Kaz: Thanks for the concern, but I can handle this just fine.
Kaz: What a great kitchen! Say, are you in charge of the whole place?
Elmott: Yeah. I mean, I'm used to dealing with fire, so it's no biggie.
As he says this, Elmott casually fires up the stove with his magic.
Kaz: That's really something else, kiddo! You're practically a pro at this!
Elmott: I just scorch whatever needs scorching, that's all.
Kaz: Give yourself more credit! You've got what it takes to make bonito fillet!
Elmott: Bonito... fillet?
Kaz: You need to soak the fish in cool water before cutting it thinly and precisely. It takes masterful heat control.
Kaz: The thickness of the cuts, the amount of oil used... You have to keep an eye on everything if you want it to turn out right.
Kaz: It isn't easy, but a young firebrand like you should manage all right.
Elmott: Thanks, but no thanks, gramps! It sounds like a total pain!
Kaz: That's too bad. With your magic you'd be able to grill it delicately enough, but I don't want to force the issue.
Kaz: And here I was hoping to finally have bonito fillet again after all these years...
Elmott: You remember what it tastes like?
Kaz: I can. My wife cooked the most delicious bonito fillet you ever tasted.
Kaz: Sorry. Just an old man's ramblings. So, how about you show me around the kitchen?
Elmott: What a pain. If I'm gonna help you, you're gonna have to do something for me, too.
Kaz: Hm? What do you have in mind?
Elmott: I want you to teach me how to make bonito fillet!
Elmott: I'm gonna remind you how it's really supposed to taste!
Kaz: That so? What a nice, young lad you are, kiddo!
Elmott: Enough babbling. Teach me how to make this thing!
