The Dragon Weeps before Daybreak - Chapter 1: A Distant Dawn - Episode 4

The next morning, Lancelot and the crew head to the abandoned village, leaving Vane and Siegfried behind to look into the dragon presences. After the crew meets another cloaked man who transforms into a dragon to escape, Lancelot discovers a trapdoor at the bottom of an old well.

Vyrn: Hmm. Yeah, that abandoned village sure sounds fishy to me.
The following morning, (Captain) and the crew discuss what they had heard from Ban and Elaine.
Lancelot: I agree. I've never heard anything about voices coming from the abandoned village before.
Vane: People used to go there on dares back in the day, but after some of them were injured by monsters, everybody started steering clear of the place.
Lancelot: I think it's worth looking into. We might even discover what's behind the appearance of all those dragons.
Vyrn: Then let's all go check it out together!
Siegfried: ...
Noticing Siegfried turned toward the village seemingly in thought, Lyria calls out to him.
Lyria: Is something wrong, Siegfried? You've been pretty quiet for a while...
Siegfried twists to face the group, his expression serious.
Siegfried: The truth is, I've been sensing dragons throughout the area ever since we arrived here...
Siegfried: Including within the village itself.
Vyrn: What! But we would've noticed if there were a bunch of dragons hangin' around...
Vane: Does that mean the man with the cloak you mentioned might've snuck in here?
Siegfried: I don't know for sure, but it's possible.
Siegfried: That being said, there's definitely something suspicious about the abandoned village as well.
Lancelot: If that man really has found his way into Nimue, we can't leave him unchecked. We should split into two groups and investigate.
Lancelot: I'll go with (Captain) and the crew to survey the abandoned village.
Lancelot: Vane, you stay here with Siegfried and search for the cloaked man.
Vane: You got it, Lancey! If there's anybody shady hiding out in the village, you can count on me to catch 'em!
Lancelot: Then let's not waste another minute. Be careful, you two.
Siegfried: Right. You all do the same.
Thus, (Captain) and company leave Siegfried and Vane to their search and head for the abandoned village.
Upon arriving on the other side of the river, they are met with a swarm of monsters.
However, there are no dragons or suspicious voices to be found in the vicinity—only vacant, crumbling buildings.
Lyria: So far nothing seems out of the ordinary...
Lancelot: Yes, there are no signs of people having been here—only monsters.
Lancelot: But you never know what might happen. We should remain vigilant.
Keeping their eyes peeled, (Captain) and company continue deeper into the village.
???: ...
???: Heh... I never dreamed the knight captain himself would come to a place like this on a dragon hunt.
Lancelot: ...!
Don't tell me you're the one who attacked that village on the border!
???: Now then, who can say?
Just as Lancelot is about to close in, a magic circle materializes above the man's hand and emits a dazzling light.
Vyrn: Whoa!
Lancelot: That's a dragon transformation spell!
Lancelot: Argh! He escaped...
Lancelot: Was that the man you all mentioned before?
Vyrn: Well, I didn't get a good look at his face just now, but judgin' from his build, I'm pretty sure that was a different guy.
Lyria: But his clothes were similar, so I think he's probably a friend of the man we met.
Lancelot: So our enemy is not only the man who attacked that remote village, but an entire organization...
Lancelot: The fact that we encountered one of his companions means that there must be something of importance here.
Lancelot: It can't be far. Let's fan out and comb the area.
Thus, (Captain) and company split up and begin searching through the buildings.
Suddenly, (Captain) hears a sound akin to voices being carried on the wind.
Vyrn: What's up, (Captain)? Find somethin'?
  1. I hear voices.

Choose: I hear voices.

Following the intermittent noise to the outskirts of the village, they come upon an old well in the middle of an unkempt field.
Lancelot: The sound seems to be coming from the bottom of this well.
Lancelot: I'll go down and investigate. You all stay here and keep a lookout.
Ensuring that (Captain) and the crew are in position, Lancelot descends into the well.
Lancelot: (That's odd. The bottom of the well is awfully wide compared to its mouth.)
Stepping onto solid ground, Lancelot is surprised to find himself in an area large enough for several adults to stand in.
Lancelot: Hm?
While surveying his surroundings, he notices something strange about an area of the floor beneath him.
Lancelot: The dirt here looks fresh. Don't tell me...
Using his twin blades to dig up the soil, Lancelot soon hits upon something solid.
Lancelot: I don't believe it.
In the spot he had unearthed is a highly suspicious old iron trapdoor.
Lancelot: There's air flowing through the gaps around the edges. This must be where that sound was coming from.
Carefully opening the door, he sees a narrow staircase that looks completely out of place for the bottom of a well.
Lancelot: An underground chamber... I never imagined something like this would be hidden down here.
Vyrn's Voice: Hey, Lancelot! Find anything down there?
Lancelot: Yes! There appears to be a room hidden beneath the bottom of the well!
Lancelot: I'm going to head inside and scout around!
Lancelot: You all stay on guard and continue searching the surrounding area!
Lyria's Voice: Okay! Be careful, Lancelot!
After informing the crew of the situation, Lancelot turns his gaze on the deep darkness leading further into the earth.
Lancelot: (A chamber hidden at the bottom of a well... What could possibly be inside?)
Taking a deep breath, he steps down onto the staircase.
