The Lightning Knight

The crew is rescued from a monster ambush by a man named Albert, but he becomes hostile after witnessing Lyria using her primal beast powers. Lyria clears up the misunderstanding and suggests that Albert join the crew so that they can help him search for his missing friend.

A treacherous mountain trail winds through a series of cliffs and precipices. The crew has come here after hearing about monsters attacking travelers attempting to traverse the trail.
They accept a request from a village at the base of that mountain to exterminate the monsters and ascend the rugged mountain path.
Vyrn: Yeesh, this trail's really steep as it is. Add monsters into the mix, and I'd say you're better off not going this way at all.
Lyria: But going over the mountain is a shortcut into the neighboring country, right, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods in agreement but is more concerned about Lyria's strained breath.
(Captain) extends a hand to Lyria.
At that moment dark shadows of monsters loom over the crew.
Lyria: Eek!
(Captain) instinctively leaps and protects Lyria from the monster ambush but ends up slipping off the edge of the trail.
Luckily (Captain) manages to grab hold of the ledge.
Vyrn: Aaah! Are you okay?
The monsters that (Captain) had initially repelled circle in for another strike.
Lyria: Look out!
Lightning flashes before Lyria's eyes as she screams out in distress.
She reflexively turns away from the surge of electricity. Looking back timidly, she sees that all the monsters have vanished without a trace.
???: Are you hurt?
An unknown man pulls (Captain) back up onto the trail.
Lyria: Th-thank you for saving us!
Vyrn: What the? This guy flashed onto the scene like a bolt of lightning...
Albert: Heh. My name is Albert.
Albert: What are you bunch of kids doing out here?
Vyrn: We came to take out the boss of the monsters attacking anyone who passes by!
Albert: Huh? With just you people alone?
Lyria: Yes! It's hard to believe, but we're skyfarers!
Vyrn: Yeah! Monster hunting's our specialty!
Albert: Yes, but weren't you in great danger just a moment ago?
Vyrn: Urk! We just got caught off guard back there is all...
Albert: You're fighting monsters. Of course there will be surprise attacks. It's kill or be killed.
Albert: I hate to say this, but you guys don't have what it takes. You should turn back.
Lyria: But the villagers are in trouble! We can't just abandon them!
Albert: ...
(Captain) doesn't back down and returns Albert's gaze.
Albert: Good grief... What can I possibly say when you look at me like that?
Albert: Fine, fine... I'm kind of in a hurry, but I can't just leave you like this... I'll help you hunt monsters.
Vyrn: Whoa, really? It'd be a great help to have you along, Lightning Guy!
Albert: My name isn't Lightning Guy. It's Albert.
Lyria: Okay! Nice to meet you, Albert!
The party advances along the mountain path with the help of Albert.
Vyrn expresses admiration for Albert's coolness in the face of incoming monster attacks.
Vyrn: You're super strong, Albert!
Albert: It's not a big deal.
Vyrn: No, no, no. I'm truly impressed!
Albert: Mm. Thank you. Your compliment is appreciated.
Vyrn: And that humble attitude of yours is just lovely! Don't you agree, Lyria?
Lyria: Huh? Um... Erm... Yes, it—Eep!
Lyria answers ambivalently but stumbles on a rock while doing so.
Albert: Watch out.
Before (Captain) can reach out to her, Albert gently catches Lyria in his arms.
Lyria: Oh... Thank you...
(Captain)'s heartbeat quickens watching the scene unfold.
Vyrn: What's wrong, Lyria? Is mountain climbing too much for you?
Lyria: N-no! I'm all right! Come on, (Captain)! Let's go!
Albert: Wait, Lyria.
Lyria: Huh? What is it?
Alpha of the Wilds: Grrr...
Lyria: Eeek!
Albert: Lyria, get back! This one isn't the same as the ones from before!
Lyria: O-okay!
Albert: (Captain), this monster is undoubtedly the alpha of this mountain...
Lyria: (Captain)! Albert! I'll back you up!
Lyria then releases the power of a primal beast.
Albert: What! That's a primal beast...
Vyrn: Hey, Albert! What are you gettin' spacey for? Monsters are coming!
Albert: Yeah...
The crew defeats the alpha monster with Albert's help.
Then without warning, Albert turns his blade toward Lyria with a grim look on his face.
Vyrn: Whoa, whoa... What do you think you're doing, Albert?
Albert: Lyria... What is this power you wield?
The once calm sky grows dark, black clouds snuffing out the sun.
Lightning flashes, followed soon after by claps of thunder.
Albert: Where did you obtain the power of a primal crystal?
Lyria: Huh? I... I...
Albert: Even you sold your soul to the crystal... Are you a monster?
Vyrn: What did you just say? Listen, pal, we've been listening quietly while you hurl accusations at us!
(Captain) senses the change in Albert and slowly edges toward him.
Lyria: (Captain)! Vyrn! P-Please wait!
Albert: Forget it. None of you can win against me. You'd better stop talking and answer my questions.
Albert remains cold and detached as his blade stays pointed at Lyria.
Lyria returns Albert's gaze and speaks with resolve.
Lyria: I'm sorry. You wanted to know what my powers are and how I'm able to summon primal beasts?
Lyria: To tell you the truth, I don't really know either. But I am sure of one thing.
Lyria: I just feel the need to use this power to help someone. Anyone! I can't explain it very well...
Lyria: But when I help someone who's in trouble, I think it somehow makes the world a better place, even if by just a tiny bit!
Albert listens to Lyria without saying a word. Her answer seems to have struck a chord with him, for he quietly sheathes his sword.
The dark clouds above them also dissipate.
Albert: Sorry for frightening you. I don't detect any hints of falsehood in your words.
Vyrn: Of course not, you big stupidhead! What kinda person do you think Lyria is?
Albert: Please forgive me for what I have done.
Albert bows deeply while apologizing for his actions. He then reveals the purpose of his own journey.
Albert: I am the leader of an order of knights back in my homeland.
Albert: But one day my friend in the order was consumed by the power of the Astral Void Lacrima. It changed him.
Lyria: Astral Void Lacrima?
Albert: Yes. It's a primal fragment that has another parasitic primal beast sealed within it.
Albert: I've been chasing after my friend ever since he was corrupted by the primal beast's power.
Vyrn: So that's why you lost it when you saw Lyria using primal beast powers.
Lyria: Do you think you'll be able to find your friend, Albert?
Albert: So far no. I've been chasing any rumors that sound like it might be about that monster, but it always eludes me.
Lyria: Then I'll help you find your friend!
Albert: What?
Lyria: I have the ability to sense primal beasts.
Lyria: Aren't two searchers better than one? I'm sure I can boost your chances of finding him.
Albert: Seriously? Are you accepting me into your crew even after I pointed my sword at you?
Vyrn: Lyria says yes, but what do you say, (Captain)?
  1. Well, if Lyria says so...
  2. I don't buy it...

Choose: Well, if Lyria says so...

Albert: Thank you, (Captain). You're very kindhearted.
Go to "Continue 1"

Choose: I don't buy it...

Albert: Y-Yes... You're right. I should continue my journey alone.
Lyria: What's wrong, (Captain)? It's not like you to say something harsh like that.
Vyrn: Um... There was that incident with the sword earlier...
Vyrn: (Captain)'s worried about you. Who wouldn't be after that?
Lyria: Huh? Is that true, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods solemnly.
Lyria: But I think Albert's gotten the message now!
Albert: Lyria...
Lyria: It's fine! Everything's fine! Okay, (Captain)?
Lyria's frantic reassurances persuades (Captain) to reconsider.

(Captain)'s suspicions are allayed, and Albert joins the crew.
Vyrn: Well, if you think about it, Albert gave us a hand in exterminating those monsters.
Lyria: Exactly! I think Albert is a good person!
Albert: Heh... A good person? Me?
Vyrn: Hmm? What's wrong?
Albert: Oh, it's nothing. I was just talking to myself.
Albert: As a member of this crew, I will protect everyone in it with my life.
Albert: I look forward to our journey together, (Captain).
Albert follows the crew to their airship.
The friend he is searching for is out there, but finding him will be no easy task.
