Hero's Return - Opening

Wracked with guilt for the role he played in the ruination of his homeland, the knight Naoise is on a pilgrimage of atonement. Concerned about Naoise's reckless disregard for his own life and limb, (Captain) invites him to join the crew.

Naoise (Promo) not in crew

(Captain) and company are suddenly surrounded by a swarm of monsters and fierce fighting breaks out.
A knight by the name of Naoise comes to the rescue, allowing the crew to fend off the attack safely, but Naoise himself is injured in the scrum.
Naoise: If my life should end in the service of protecting others, then I have no regrets.
Naoise: No... Perhaps it's more accurate to say that this is the only honorable thing a disgraced knight like me can do.
(Captain) and the crew, concerned about Naoise's self-sacrificing fighting style, listen to a story from his past.
Naoise: A knight is sworn to his king and country, yet it was by my hands that both of those things came to ruin. There is no justification for why I still live.
(Captain) and the crew now understand Naoise's disregard for his own life and limb, and they invite him to join the crew.
Everyone in the crew becomes fast friends with Naoise as they continue to travel the vast blue skies.
Those strong bonds help Naoise to gradually temper his foolhardy fighting style.
Naoise (Promo) is a crew member

Naoise, who fights with reckless disregard for his own life, comes to the aid of (Captain) and the crew.
Continuing their travels, the bonds strengthen between Naoise, (Captain), and the others, and they become firm friends.
Under the influence of his new friends, Naoise's gradually tones down his reckless fighting style and begins to take more care.
But despite his strides, he still sinks into occasional fits of depression.
It's at those times when (Captain) and the crew are most worried about him.
Naoise: (Captain). I'd like to ask you for an indulgence.
Vyrn: Huh? Why are you being so formal? Something happen?
Naoise: Please allow me to be discharged from this crew.
Vyrn: D-discharged? Um, was it something we did?
Naoise: No, nothing like that. On the contrary you have done more than enough for me. And that is why I must leave.
Lyria: Is there something you have to do?
Naoise: There once was a kingdom called Irestill on Alster Island. I was thinking of heading there first.
Lyria: Irestill... You used to be a knight for that place...
Naoise: That's correct. And it is the kingdom I destroyed.
Vyrn: You've brought that up a coupla times, but what's the full story?
Vyrn: I mean, you're strong, but there's no way one guy can take on an entire kingdom, right?
Lyria: And I don't think you'd ever do something like that, Naoise! Not even for a second!
Naoise: I've thought of coming clean about my past for quite a long time now.
Naoise: The fact that I couldn't tell you is proof enough of my weak resolve. Forgive me.
Lyria: Don't say that. We were never going to force you to tell us anything.
Lyria: But we were always worried whenever you got that sad look on your face.
Naoise: Thank you, Lyria. The kindness of you and your crew has saved me.
Naoise: And that's precisely why I must face my past.
Naoise pauses briefly before telling the tale of Irestill's demise.
Naoise: It all began when King Connor commanded me to vanquish a dragon named Deirdre.
Naoise: Deirdre was immensely powerful but to my knowledge had never attacked a person before.
Lyria: Oh? Then why did the king ask you to do that?
Naoise: King Connor was agitated. He had a son, Seruel, and a daughter, Heles.
Naoise: Seruel and Heles were growing popular among the people. As I continued to serve beside them, I became a trusted figure among the citizens as well.
Naoise: It seems that the king saw our growing popularity as a threat to his own position.
Vyrn: What! So he was basically throwing a temper tantrum!
Naoise: It doesn't matter. I am a knight of the kingdom, oathsworn to a long-reigning king. It never crossed my mind to disobey.
Naoise: And so I entered Deirdre's lair and commenced battle.
Naoise: Our fight was fierce and awash in blood. In the end my spear found its mark, but I lost consciousness at the same moment.
Lyria: ...
Naoise: I don't know how much time passed before I awoke again. Hours? Days?
Naoise: When I came to, I dragged myself to my feet and was about to return, but my homeland was no more.
Naoise: Monsters had overwhelmed the land and laid waste to it. The once beautiful Irestill Kingdom was now an abject sight.
Lyria: How awful! How did that happen so suddenly?
Naoise: If I had to guess, I'd say Deirdre's immense power served as a deterrent against the monsters.
Naoise: I cursed my blind stupidity for felling that dragon.
Naoise: All I could do was leave on a pilgrimage to allow the souls of the deceased to find peace.
Vyrn: And then somewhere along the way you met us.
Naoise: Yes. You taught me to value my life as we traveled together.
Naoise: I realized that this... pilgrimage is nothing more than an excuse. An excuse to escape my sins.
Lyria: Naoise...
Naoise: I can no longer look the other way. That's why I wish to return to Alster Island.
  1. And then what?
  2. Okay, let's go.

Choose: And then what?
Naoise: I don't know. What punishment could I possibly bear in order to atone for my crimes?
Naoise: I won't know unless I go back.
Naoise: Hm? You're all coming with me? Of course I have no qualms with that, but...
Naoise: If I look anxious, it's because... No, you're right. Sorry for making you worry about me.

Choose: Okay, let's go.
Naoise: You would accompany me?
Naoise: But that would mean postponing your journey to Estalucia.
Vyrn: Don't you worry about that! We're friends! Right, Mr. Uptight Knight?
Naoise: Yes, sorry. And thank you.
Continue 1
Naoise bows deeply, his mind racing.
(Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn quietly exchange glances as they stand beside him.
The final destination of Naoise's long pilgrimage has been decided. However, he won't be alone.

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 1

Arriving on Alster Island, (Captain) and the crew think it odd that the grass around the airship docking station appears to have been tended to. Naoise confirms that when he left the island, it had been in a worse state than it currently is.

The party finally arrives on Alster Island, home to the former Irestill Kingdom.
Naoise: I never thought I'd live to once again set foot on my home soil...
Vyrn: You know, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it'd be. Um, I mean that in a good way.
Lyria: Yes, the grass has been trimmed around the docking station. It looks like someone's been tending to it.
Naoise: How odd. This place was reduced to rubble by monsters just before I left...
Lyria: Well, isn't this a good thing? It's definitely a sign that people are still living here.
Naoise: You're right, Lyria.
Naoise: There was an old stopover town not far from here. I'll show you the way.

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 1: Scene 2

(Captain) and company encounter a merchant who was abandoned by his bodyguard while traveling a monster-infested road. They decide to escort him to Irestill's castle town.

Naoise: The town is just ahead.
Lyria: Oh, it looks like some people are having an argument over there.
Merchant: You're putting me in a tight spot here! C'mon, it's just a little farther to the town.
Rough Man: Shut up. Stop making a fuss and hand over the cash!
Merchant: That's not what we agreed on! It's half up front, the rest when we get into town!
Merchant: And then you started tacking on all these extra fees after we got on the road...
Rough Man: If you got a problem, then why don't I just leave you here? Seeing you ripped apart by monsters sure would be something!
Merchant: You wouldn't!
Rough Man: Hahahaha! I'll make an example outta you! You and all your wares will be swallowed up!
Naoise: He had a dispute with his bodyguard? But this area is full of monsters!
Vyrn: That guy's gonna be in trouble if he doesn't get something sorted out! Let's go talk to him, (Captain)!
Merchant: Argh! What am I going to do?
Lyria: Excuse me, mister! What's the matter?
The merchant explains his predicament, the color drained from his face.
The guard he had hired had demanded more money than was originally agreed to. When the merchant refused, his guard left him high and dry.
Vyrn: Are you serious? What a despicable guard! Unforgivable!
Merchant: I contracted him to escort me from the stopover town to the Great Court.
Naoise: The Great Court? I've never heard that name before.
Merchant: Yeah, it's where the old castle used to be. We're using it as a multipurpose gathering spot now.
Naoise: I see. So you're heading for the castle town.
Vyrn: Hey, (Captain), let's guard this guy!
Merchant: Huh? Would you be able to do that?
Lyria: Is that all right with you, Naoise?
Naoise: Yes. As luck would have it, we are also heading for the same destination as you, merchant.
Naoise: And we simply can't leave you like this. It would benefit us all to go together.
Merchant: Thank you. I'll never forget this!
Naoise: From this point onward we shouldn't linger in any one place for too long. (Captain), we must make haste.

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 2

The merchant explains that military patrols stopped once the kingdom fell, making travel extremely dangerous. Finding help is difficult, leading to reliance on unreliable ruffians.

(Captain) and the others arrive in the nearby stopover town with the merchant.
Merchant: Just name your price. I mean it. You all deserve a reward for this.
Naoise: Traveling without security is certainly dangerous, but hiring a man like that is just as dangerous.
Merchant: Yeah, you said it. But that's just how things are now after the kingdom fell.
Merchant: There weren't as many monsters in the past, and the roads were well patrolled. It was a lot safer back then.
Lyria: Oh, that's right... There are still rampaging monsters around...
Merchant: Various towns and villages have made great strides in their reconstruction efforts, but getting to them is a different matter.
Vyrn: Yep, it can't be easy getting to the next town when you got monsters runnin' around.
Merchant: When help is in short supply, you're forced to rely on louts like that man.
Naoise: I'm sorry. It was wrong of me to criticize you without knowing anything about your situation.
Merchant: Not at all! The truth is I made a terrible hiring decision.
Merchant: I'm very fortunate to have met people as kind as yourselves.
Naoise: I truly am sorry.
Naoise: (Captain), there's still time before it gets dark. Let's rest a short while before setting off for the castle town.
Merchant: You must be weary. Why not rest at that tea house? I'll pick up the bill of course!
Lyria: Wow, thank you very much! Come on, (Captain)!
The party enjoys a brief rest before getting back on the road.

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 2: Scene 2

According to the merchant, the two pillars of the Irestill royal family, Seruel and Heles, have taken command of restoration efforts.

Lyria: So many monsters... Now I see what you mean.
Merchant: Well, it's still a lot better than it used to be, now that the royal children have returned to lead the restoration.
Naoise: Seruel and Heles have returned?
Naoise: Yes, I remember now. They had left the kingdom to aid a neighboring country at the time.
Seruel is a crew member

Vyrn: Seruel... Seruel... Oh! He's the prince of Irestill, yeah?
Merchant: That's right. The reconstruction efforts were going well, so he left for a while. Seems he came back only recently.
Lyria: That rings a bell. He did say he was heading back to his homeland because he was worried about something.
Lyria: Do you think we'll meet him at the castle town?
Naoise: Those two have been known as the pillars of the royal family ever since their father, King Conner, reigned over the land.
Naoise: That they could restore the kingdom in such a short amount of time is a testament to their ability and popularity.
Merchant: You've hit the nail on the head there!
Merchant: At this rate it won't be long before we won't have to rely on ill-bred ruffians.

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 3

(Captain) and company arrive at the castle town to find Heles giving a speech. Much to Naoise's shock, she plans to revive Deirdre. She asks the crew to follow her for they have much to discuss.

(Captain) and company bid farewell to the merchant upon arriving at the castle town. After accepting the merchant's profuse gratitude, they search for an inn.
Naoise: This takes me back... It's surprising how little this place I was born and raised in has changed.
Lyria: Naoise...
Vyrn: Hm? Hey, there's a crowd over there. Wonder what's going on.
Vyrn: I'm gonna go and check it out, (Captain)!
Lyria: Oh! Vyrn, wait for us!
A woman stands in the middle of the crowd.
???: Citizens! First of all, my brother, Seruel, and I wish to thank you all for your efforts in the restoration of our kingdom.
Naoise: That's Heles!
Seruel is a crew member

Vyrn: So that's Seruel's sister! Well, she's certainly got that air about her.
Old Woman: Well, I'll be! To think Heles would have words of praise for us. Thank you so much.
Heles: However, monsters still run rampant, and we are unable to trade as we wish. Please allow me to apologize.
Townsman: That's not your fault nor is it Seruel's! Those monsters just increased all of a sudden!
Naoise: ...
Heles: Yes, as someone just said, the number of monsters suddenly increased. And there is a reason for that.
A murmur of surprise ripples through the crowd. She waits for the noise to die down before continuing.
Heles: The cause of the rise in numbers is none other than the fall of True Dragon Deirdre.
Heles: It was Deirdre's immense power that held the monster hordes at bay.
Townsman: What are you saying? Could that really be true?
Old Woman: Oh my! That's news to me. But if Heles says so, it must be true.
Heles: Seruel and I, as the former royal line of this kingdom, will hold a ceremony to revive the great Deirdre!
Naoise: ...!
Heles: This will restore Alster Island to its former state of peace and order.
Heles: The age of sufferance is drawing to a close. We, the royals of Irestill, answer to the steadfast hearts of our citizens!
Townsman: Long live Heles! Long live Seruel!
Heles's proclamation whips the crowd into a frenzy, their cheers ringing out over and over.
Naoise is unable to move, dumbfounded at what he has just heard.
Lyria: Are you all right, Naoise?
Naoise: Y-yes... I'm just in a bit of shock...
Vyrn: She said they're gonna revive Deirdre.
Naoise: She did. But Deidre was slain by my hand...
Heles: It's conceited to claim that the true dragon could ever be slain by mortal hands.
Naoise: Heles!
Heles: It's been a long time, Naoise. Your face was easy to pick out from where I was standing.
Naoise: Your Highness! Nothing is more important to me than seeing you in good health and good spirits.
Heles: Come now, this isn't the time for such formalities. We must talk. Follow me.
Heles turns on her heels and sets off.
Lyria: Should we go along too, (Captain)?
Naoise: She would have already told you no if she didn't want you to come. I'm sure it's all right.
Naoise: I'm sorry to drag you around like this, but please come with me, (Captain).

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 4

(Captain) and company meet True Dragon Deirdre, whose core is temporarily housed within the form of a little girl. Deirdre had protected the island from monsters in exchange for a new body created by the royal family, but that agreement was broken by King Connor. Seruel and Heles plan to mend the agreement, but an assassin confronts Heles later that night.

(Captain) and the others follow Heles to the entrance chamber of the former royal castle, now known as the Great Court.
Seruel: Naoise! You've finally returned.
Naoise: Seruel...
Seruel is a crew member

Seruel: And I see (Captain) and the others have come too. Make yourselves at home.
Heles: Save the reunion speeches for later. Naoise, there's someone you have to meet.
???: Humph. I don't expect him to remember anything about me.
Naoise: I don't believe we have met before, my lady. I am Naoise. I was a knight of this kingdom.
???: Humph. You're the only one here who would consider this to be our first meeting.
Naoise: Oh? I'm sorry, but where was it that I made your acquaintance?
Heles: Naoise. This is True Dragon Deirdre.
Lyria: R-really? But no matter how you look at her, she's just an Erune...
Deirdre: That knight destroyed my vessel.
Heles: Deirdre's core was unharmed, but I had to create this temporary vessel using my magic in order to keep it safe.
Vyrn: It's only a temp? Are you going to create a permanent one from the revival ceremony then?
Deirdre: Ooh, that's a good guess, my brethren.
Deirdre: I shed my old vessel once every three hundred years. The jewel imbued with my core is then transferred into a new vessel.
Seruel: It's the rulers of Irestill who lend their magical powers to the creation of this new vessel.
Seruel: In exchange Deirdre casts a watchful eye over Alster Island to ensure monsters don't run rampant.
Heles: During the time of the War, she forged an alliance with Irestill Kingdom to oppose the Astrals.
Heles: Even after the Astrals departed, Deirdre and the royal family entered into a pact to guard against future attacks.
Naoise: Such a pact existed? Not once did King Conner ever mention this.
Heles: My father knew nothing of that promise. Due to various mishaps within the royal line, news of the pact failed to reach him.
Seruel: Deirdre, on behalf of the royals of Irestill, I once again offer my sincerest apologies for our ineptitude.
Deirdre: I'm tired of hearing you two apologize. I don't want to hear any more.
Naoise: Deirdre, I—
Deirdre: Enough. I doubt this conversation will get any livelier. I'm going back inside.
Deirdre heads for her room with a look of boredom.
Naoise: ...
Seruel: Although it was obviously not our intention, we breached our pact with Deirdre in the worst possible way.
Seruel: We never should have thought to vanquish Deirdre.
Heles: But now we must do whatever it takes to restore the pact with her if we are to bring peace to Alster.
Heles: The first thing is to make the necessary arrangements for acquiring a new vessel.
Naoise: In other words we have to right our incomprehensible transgression before anything else.
Seruel: That's correct.
Heles: Thank you for coming so soon after you arrived, but I've already kept you and your skyfarer friends too long for one day.
Heles: There are still things to discuss, but for now you're welcome to stay in the guest rooms.
Vyrn: Whoa! You sure?
Heles: You needn't worry about such things. It would be a hassle to find lodging at this hour. My attendant will show you to your rooms.
Lyria: Thank you so much, Heles!
Thanks to Heles's generosity, (Captain) and company have a place to stay for the night.
The peace is soon shattered.
Lyria: What was that?
Vyrn: No idea, but it sounded close!
Naoise: It came from the direction of Heles's room! We must go check on her, (Captain)!
Heles: Interesting. I seem to have elicited an excellent response from my speech today given how quickly you've been sent after me.
Assassin: Tch... So much for a quick kill.
The assassin once again takes aim at Heles, but the crew arrives before any more shots can be fired.
Naoise: Heles! Are you all right?
Assassin: Damn! Her guards have arrived!
The assassin slips away rather than face overwhelming odds.
Naoise: Stop! You're not getting away!
(Captain) and the others chase the assassin into the night.

Hero's Return - Chapter 1: Silent Homecoming - Episode 4: Scene 2

The assassin slips away from Naoise, but Heles knows who it is and tells the crew not to give chase. They follow her orders and go back to bed, still uneasy about what just happened.

Naoise: Prepare to meet your maker!
Heles: Wait, Naoise.
Naoise: Heles?
Assassin: ...!
Naoise: No! Stop!
The assassin seizes the opportunity to escape.
Heles: There's no need to go after him. I know exactly who he is.
Heles: The fact that they would send someone after me is proof that our plan is working. Having that confirmation is good enough.
Naoise: Heles, what do you mean by that?
Heles responds to Naoise's bewilderment with a fearless smile.
(Captain) and the others grudgingly obey Heles's order to go back to bed.

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 1

The mafia has been exploiting the situation on Alster by ripping off travelers for protection money. Heles and Seruel explain that if Deirdre were to help drive away the monsters, it would cut off the mafia's revenue stream.

(Captain) and company gather in Heles's room the following morning.
Heles: I'll cut to the chase. The assassin we encountered yesterday works for the mafia.
Naoise: The mafia? But they've been barred from entering Alster...
Naoise: No, actually this is the perfect time for them to take advantage of the situation.
Seruel: Naoise is correct. They're always watching for an opportunity to turn a profit.
Heles: The mafia showed no interest in the towns as they underwent reconstruction.
Heles: It wasn't until trade began picking up again on the entire island that they began to stir.
Lyria: So the mafia are in it for the money?
Heles: Violence is their specialty. To capitalize on that, they offer to protect people moving between various towns for a fee.
Vyrn: Huh? How is that different from what we do as skyfarers?
Vyrn: Is it wrong to help people who need it?
Heles: The problem is they force people to pay exorbitant fees for their services, and then they settle on the island.
Naoise: I see... That explains the merchant's guard from yesterday. He was probably a mafia underling.
Naoise: Should those kinds of people continue to settle on Alster, the public order of the island is sure to crumble.
Seruel: They wouldn't think twice to sacrifice others for the sake of their own gains.
Seruel: In any case we must drive them out before anything happens.
Heles: Luckily they haven't expanded beyond taking escort missions.
Heles: Therefore if we took away their business, they'd be unable to profit off the people.
Lyria: Hm... No more monsters to guard against means no more business, right?
Heles: Exactly, Lyria. And we can make that happen by reestablishing the agreement with Deirdre.
Heles: Last night's assassination attempt is proof of their growing impatience.
Naoise: Then no matter what we have to persuade Deirdre back to our side.
Seruel: All of which must be done before the mafia start throwing their weight around. We don't have much time left.
Seruel: If only Deirdre had a more favorable outlook on reforging the pact...

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 2

Seruel wants to create a new vessel for Deirdre as a means of atonement for what King Connor had done. Deirdre suspects Seruel of trying to curry her favor, to which Seruel admits he has no choice.

(Captain) and the others are deep in conversation when the door to the room suddenly swings open.
Deirdre: Yawn... What's this? Are you having a secret children's meeting?
Heles: Good morning, Deirdre. Did you sleep well?
Deirdre: Mm. That sleeping apparatus you call a bed isn't bad.
Lyria: Huh? Your clothes don't look quite right. You haven't tied up this side properly.
Deirdre: Ngh! Don't touch me without warning!
Lyria: Oh, sorry! Look here. It's all tangled up.
Deirdre: Fine, go ahead. Fix it.
Lyria: Okay! Stand still please. Let's see... This goes like this...
Deirdre: Look at me. If you hadn't destroyed my old vessel, I wouldn't have to be stuck in this one.
Naoise: No apology can possibly convey the shame I feel. This is entirely my fault.
Deirdre: Humph. Magic stored up for three hundred years was all for nothing. I should, by all rights, be able to use that power to create a new vessel.
Vyrn: But the rulers of Irestill help you create a new vessel, right?
Deirdre: That's correct, my brethren. My power and theirs entwine to create a new body.
Deirdre: This is just a thin-skinned container designed to temporarily safeguard my core.
Seruel: Deirdre, we offer our apologies for the failings of the royal family and for the misconduct of King Connor.
Seruel: To atone for our father's sins, please allow us to hold the ceremony to create a new vessel for you.
Deirdre: Hm... You need me to stand against the monsters in order to protect your people, am I right?
Deirdre: It's painfully obvious that you're trying to curry favor with me, Last Prince of Alster.
Seruel: I simply wish to restore the pact that bound our house and you together.
Seruel: I can't press this pact upon you with mere pleasantries. I ask that you not belittle me so.
Deirdre: Haha, you talk a good fight. I don't think you're wrong, but I'm not saying you're right either.

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 3

Heles and Seruel intend to travel alone around Alster, making announcements regarding Deirdre. Naoise offers to escort the shorthanded siblings. Naturally (Captain) and company volunteer immediately after.

Seruel: My sister and I are leaving to make an official announcement to other parts of the island.
Vyrn: Wait, you're not seriously thinking about goin' out there with just the two of you! There are monsters everywhere!
Heles: We can look after ourselves. We can't drag anyone else along with us when help is so hard to come by.
Naoise: You mustn't rule out the worst case scenario.
Naoise: Though the royal family has fallen, the people still need leaders.
Naoise: I may not be of much help, but please take me with you at the very least.
Vyrn: Hey! Don't you dare forget about us!
Seruel is a crew member

Lyria: That's right! Seruel and Naoise are our friends. Let's help them out, (Captain)!
Seruel: Well, there is a limit to how far we can travel with just the two of us. We could certainly use their help, Heles.
Heles: Very well, although it pains me to say we can't offer you more in the way of a reward.
Vyrn: All right! Now that it's been decided, let's get a move on!

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 3: Scene 2

As the crowd listens to another announcement from Heles, someone asks for the reason behind the sudden disappearance of Deirdre. Naoise answers that he is responsible for everything, but Seruel reassures him that all the blame doesn't fall on him.

The party follows the main road out of the castle town and arrives at the next town over.
Heles proclaims her intent to revive Deirdre to the crowd.
Heles: The first step to bringing law and order back to Alster Island is the revival of Deirdre.
Heles: Seruel and I will preside over the revival ceremony.
Her remark causes quite a stir among the crowd. A voice of doubt rises over the din.
Townsman: But, Your Highness... Why did Deirdre disappear all of a sudden?
Naoise: That would be because of... me. I was the one who took Deirdre's life.
Naoise attempts to move to the front of the crowd to answer the man's question.
Seruel, who had been standing next to Naoise, speaks up before he can do so.
Seruel: And the order to vanquish Deirdre came from my own father, King Connor.
Seruel: The ruination of Irestill and the wretched conditions that you all suffer from were ushered in by the foolishness of my father.
Seruel: My sister and I will atone for those sins with the return of Deirdre.
Seruel bows nobly before the crowd. For a second no one makes a sound, but then the crowd erupts into cheers.
Naoise: Seruel...
Seruel: Naoise, my sister and I won't let you take sole responsibility for what happened.
Seruel: I know better than anyone that you've already inflicted enough suffering on yourself over this.
Naoise: ...
Heles: Naoise. Let's move to the next town.
Naoise: Yes, Your Highness!

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 4

Naoise worries that he's not worthy of the trust placed in him by Seruel. Seruel notices that Naoise doesn't look well but doesn't press the matter further.

Naoise: (Seruel may believe in what he said, but I'm not worthy of his faith.)
Seruel: Is something wrong, Naoise? You look a bit pale.
Naoise: No, I'm fine. It's nothing to worry about.
Seruel: If you say so. Don't hesitate to speak up if you feel unwell.
Naoise: Thank you for your concern.

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 4: Scene 2

Heles learns of a monster lair nearby, and the crew agrees to help her destroy it.

The party arrives in yet another town without incident. Much like the previous towns, the people rejoice upon hearing Heles's announcement.
Heles: (Captain). It seems monsters have built a lair near this town.
Heles: Will you help drive them away to ensure the safety of the townspeople?
Vyrn: That's it? Easy-peasy! Right, (Captain)?
Heles: You have my gratitude. Now, please follow me.

Hero's Return - Chapter 2: A Knight's Suffering - Episode 4: Scene 3

Naoise and the others have returned to the Great Court. He sits alone in his room, wondering how he's supposed to pay for what he's done when everyone has already forgiven him.

The monster lair is dealt with. The party returns to the Great Court safe and sound.
Naoise sits in his room alone, lost in thought.
Naoise: Seruel, Heles, and all the people of Alster... None of them condemn me for my actions.
Naoise: Not even Deirdre has any need of my apology.
Naoise: Then how do I atone for what I've done? What should I do to live up to their trust?
Naoise: I think I'd rather be blamed as a fool and burned at the stake.
A bitter smile crosses his face as he reflects on the warmth and kindness shown to him by others.
Naoise has reached the end of his pilgrimage, but he's still trying to find a way to atone without sacrificing himself.

Hero's Return - Chapter 3: Home Sweet Home - Episode 1

Deirdre is tired of being cooped up and demands Naoise accompany her into town. Deirdre takes up the fake name Scathacha to remain inconspicuous, and she gets a glimpse at the lives of ordinary people with Naoise as her guide.

(Captain) and the crew continue helping Heles and Seruel issue their proclamations to villages and towns across the island.
The days tick by. Heles finally decides it's time for them to take a day off.
Naoise: Yes, who is it?
Deirdre: If I hadn't been hammering on that door, you wouldn't have noticed I was there at all. Mortals are so dull-witted.
Naoise: Deirdre! What brings you here?
Deirdre: I've had enough.
Naoise: Pardon?
Deirdre: I'm bored! Fed up! I can't stand being in this place any longer!
Deirdre: I'm going into town. You! Show me around!
Naoise: Um, that's...
Deirdre: Are you honestly going to refuse me?
Deirdre: Hurry up! We're leaving now!
Naoise: Deirdre! Please wait!
Evading Heles's watchful eye, Deirdre sneaks out of the Great Court with Naoise in hot pursuit.
Naoise: Deirdre, please! Come back to the Great Court!
Naoise: Heles said your temporary vessel is too fragile. It's not meant to withstand your power—
Deirdre: Silence.
Naoise: Yes, Deirdre.
Deirdre: Stop saying my name. I didn't come out here to be gawked at by the townspeople.
Deirdre: I need a fake name. Think of one for me. Something... elegant.
Naoise: Huh?
Naoise: (This is all so sudden... What's gotten into her?)
Deirdre: Well?
Naoise: Okay, let's see...
Naoise: What do you think of Scathacha?
Deirdre: Hm... Where is that from?
Naoise: She's a queen from a fairy tale. She was as sagacious as she was brave.
Deirdre: Scathacha... Yes, that will do nicely. That shall be my name from now on.
Scathacha: Come, you may follow Scathacha!
Naoise: As you wish!
Naoise walks along the main street of the castle town, though it may be more accurate to say he's being pulled along by Scathacha.
Naoise: How can it be this crowded? I never could have imagined this when I left the island...
Scathacha: There's no shortage of mortals. They're so noisy.
Scathacha: What are those things lined up over there? The rectangular ones.
Naoise: Those are bricks drying in the sun. Sun-dried bricks are easier to make and more convenient than kiln-fired ones.
Naoise: They don't hold up well in the rain, however, so they aren't used in houses on Alster.
Scathacha: The way you speak is so irritating. Can't you get to the point a little quicker?
Naoise: Er...
Scathacha: Heles and Seruel are the same. You all enjoy prattling on in a roundabout way.
Naoise: Yes...
Scathacha: There. Speak like the one that resembles me who travels with those skyfarers.
Naoise: Resembles you? You mean Vyrn?
Oh! As in the way he speaks casually—
Scathacha: Hm? What's that?
Naoise: Could you please wa—Ahem. I mean, wait! Please don't run off by your—Urgh. Stop!
Old Woman: Good golly, what a sweet girl. Come on in.
Scathacha: Um, what's this? It's really sparkly.
Old Woman: It's a hair tie. I think it would really go well with your long, beautiful hair.
Naoise: Scathacha! You'll get lost if you wander off by yourself!
Scathacha: Hehe. Then as my attendant you should keep a better eye on me.
Old Woman: Good heavens! Is that you, Naoise? I haven't seen you in ages.
Old Woman: I used to see you all the time when you passed by on your patrols.
Naoise: Yes, it's been quite a while. I'm glad to see that you're doing well.
Old Woman: Same to you, Naoise. So much has happened, hasn't it? Seeing you again puts my mind at ease.
Naoise: Thank you...
Scathacha: Huh? What's going on? It's wrapped around my hair...
Naoise: Scathacha, you did it wrong. This part goes around like this—
Scathacha: Ow! What are you doing?
Old Woman: No, no. Don't pull like that. Here, I'll show you how it's done.
Scathacha: Ugh, you stink at this!
Naoise: Please forgive me. Might I suggest you refer to Heles, who is more versed in these matters?
Scathacha: ...
Naoise: Scathacha?
Scathacha: You're talking in that way again.
Naoise: Sorry...
Scathacha: Oh? What's that?
Naoise: Hey! Wait, Scathacha!
Sorry, I must go!
Old Woman: Yes, yes. Please come again.
Naoise: How infuriating! She's even more of a handful than Heles at her age!

Hero's Return - Chapter 3: Home Sweet Home - Episode 2

Seruel notices that Naoise and Scathacha have disappeared, and the party goes into town to find them. Both of them are eventually found, but Scathacha isn't ready to go home just yet.

Lyria: Huh? Naoise is missing?
Seruel: Yes. Deirdre too. I'm sure something is afoot.
Vyrn: What if she's still pissed off about what Naoise did to her old body, and she's planning something?
Seruel: We can't rule out that possibility.
Vyrn: I don't know though. She's always pretty friendly to me.
Heles: In any case we have to find her before anything befalls her vessel.
Heles: I want to find them quickly, but I have a meeting to attend to. Can I count on your assistance?
Lyria: If that's the case, then leave it to us! Right, (Captain)?
Heles: Seruel, you go with them. They'll need someone who knows these streets well.
Seruel: That's true. I shall leave the meeting to you then, Sister.
Vyrn: All right! Let's go find Naoise and Deirdre!
They go around asking the townspeople if anyone has seen Naoise or Deirdre. A vendor selling hair accessories offers up a clue.
Old Woman: They went down that street. They seemed to get along very well, heehee.
Lyria: Phew... That's good to know...
Old Woman: Seeing a young child out in the streets, shopping without a care in the world... It takes me back to the good ol' days.
Seruel: Yes, there was a period of time when children were not allowed to leave home alone.
Seruel: The restoration has come a long way since then. I'm proud of the people of Alster.
Vyrn: So those two went this way, huh? Let's check it out, (Captain)!
Naoise: Scathacha! You can't randomly touch things on display without asking.
Scathacha: Hm?
Lyria: Ah! They're over there! Hey, Naoise!
Naoise: Lyria?
Scathacha: Oh, they already caught up to us.
Seruel: It's only natural we would come looking for you when you disappear without telling anyone, Deirdre.
Scathacha: I'm Scathacha now.
Vyrn: What the heck?
Scathacha: Everyone knows the name Deirdre. You'll only draw attention to me if you keep calling me that.
Lyria: That's a good point. Okay, I'll call you Scathacha from now on!
Scathacha: Mm. Please do, blue-haired one.
Lyria: Hehe. My name's Lyria!
Scathacha: Very well. Then that is what I shall call you, Lyria.
Scathacha: Good. Let's continue, Lyria and (Captain)! There's still more I wish to see!
Seruel: Wonderful...

Hero's Return - Chapter 3: Home Sweet Home - Episode 3

Scathacha comes to understand Heles's rationale for wanting to protect her subjects after getting a glimpse of their daily lives. A monster attack on the market stall interrupts her train of thought, and the crew leaps to the owner's aid.

Scathacha's entourage now includes (Captain)'s group in addition to Naoise. They continue to stroll through the castle town.
Eventually they end up back where they started. Scathacha stands alone, talking to herself.
Scathacha: Now I understand what Heles meant by wanting to protect the people's way of life.
Scathacha: Hm... Not bad.
Naoise: This used to be a place of calm and peace. It was a good town... until the monsters ran amok.
Scathacha: ...
Scathacha: What was that sound?
Lyria: Ah! Over there!
Monster: Grrr...
Townsman: Aaah!
Lyria: Oh no! Monsters got in somehow and are attacking that stall!
Naoise: We must help the owner at once! Hurry, (Captain)!

Hero's Return - Chapter 3: Home Sweet Home - Episode 4

The monsters are driven off, but the arrival of a black dragon chases away Scathacha. Naoise and the crew chase after the dragon, determined not to let it rampage into town.

Monster: Gurgh...
Vyrn: Phew, got 'em! You all right there, mister?
Townsman: That was close! Thanks so much for helping me out.
Lyria: Wow, they ate almost everything you had...
Townsman: Yeah... We're on the edge of town, so you gotta be on your toes, but it can happen so fast.
Townsman: I guess I should have hired one of those lowlifes as a guard after all.
Seruel: You can't rely on those people. But I guess I can't really say that, given your situation.
Seruel: As you can see, Scathacha, we need your help in restoring law and order to this island.
Seruel: Scathacha?
Lyria: Um, she was just here a moment ago...
Vyrn: Hey, there she is! Where the heck is she going?
Scathacha: ...!
Naoise: Scathacha! Wait!
Naoise is about to run after her.
Lyria: Eek! Look at that!
Lyria points to an enormous black dragon up in the sky.
Townsman: Wha? But that's...
Vyrn: Is she running away from it?
Seruel: It looks like she's trying to leave town. We can't leave her by herself! Give chase!
Scathacha: Huff... Huff... What an unsuitable body!
???: Groooar!
Scathacha: Humph. And such a vile screa—Agh!
Distracted by the black dragon, Scathacha trips and falls flat on the ground.
Scathacha: Ngh... I should never have tried to run in this body!
???: Groooar!
The dragon's claws reach for Scathacha's exposed backside.
Naoise: Scathacha!
Without a second to spare, Naoise knocks the claws away from Scathacha with a single blow.
Naoise: Isn't this dragon... Deirdre? But how can that be when Scathacha is right here?
Vyrn: Scathacha! Are you all right!
Scathacha: Yes, I'm just tired from running. I'm not harmed.
???: Graaawr!
Lyria: Why is that dragon so angry?
Scathacha: ...
Naoise: Whatever the reason, we can't let it get into the town.
Naoise: (Captain), lend me your blade. We'll make this dragon submit to us!

Hero's Return - Chapter 4: Black Wings of Fury - Episode 1

The black dragon is driven off. Scathacha explains that it is a manifestation of her rage and magical powers from the time when her old body was destroyed.

???: Roooar!
Vyrn: Oh, crap! It's getting away!
Seruel: Let's not chase after it. Our side has sustained injuries as well.
Seruel: But what was that dragon?
Scathacha: That... was my wrath.
Naoise: What do you mean by that?
Scathacha: That thing used to be a part of me.
Scathacha: I was filled with immeasurable rage at the royal family's betrayal when my old body was destroyed.
Scathacha: Had I given in completely to that rage, I would have been reduced to a mere monster.
Scathacha: And so I immediately excised that rage away along with my magic powers.
Scathacha: Those emotions and powers should have dissipated over time, but...
Naoise: But they manifested into that black dragon that was just before us instead.

Hero's Return - Chapter 4: Black Wings of Fury - Episode 2

Scathacha suggests that the dragon Skadi was able to manifest itself with help from the pain and sorrow of the people. Naoise is wracked with guilt upon realizing the role he played in creating Skadi.

(Captain) and the others return to the Great Court to continue discussing the black dragon.
Scathacha: The manifestation of my wrath is called Skadi.
Naoise: Skadi...
Heles: But Skadi isn't just a magical entity. It has a definitive, physical form.
Scathacha: That dragon likely took form through the same magic that created this temporary vessel of mine.
Scathacha: Skadi manifested at the same time Alster was overrun by monsters. The island churned with the rage and sorrow of the people.
Scathacha: That negativity only fed more power into its form.
Naoise: ...
Naoise: (Then there's no doubt that I was the one responsible for unleashing Skadi...)
Seruel: I don't think a good plan will ever come about in our exhausted state.
Heles: I agree. Let's stop for today and restore our spirits.

Hero's Return - Chapter 4: Black Wings of Fury - Episode 3

A group of mafia lackeys observe Skadi in its lair as it treats its wounds from the fight with the crew. They have been tasked with gathering information that will be useful for extorting protection money from the merchants.

Meanwhile some mafia lackeys are observing Skadi from the shadows as she tends to her wounds.
Skadi: Grr...
Rude Man: Looks like this creepy thing's the real deal. It does keep the monsters away...
Rough Man: Yeah, if we use it right, we could make bank off those merchants!
Rude Man: Hehehe... We should do what the boss says. This is gonna be a cinch.
Skadi: Gyaaah!
Rude Man: Urk! What the hell?
Rough Man: Relax. It's just smartin' from its wounds.
Rude Man: Damn monster! Screaming outta nowhere...

Hero's Return - Chapter 4: Black Wings of Fury - Episode 4

Naoise and the others continue patrolling the castle town, and Scathacha continues to wander off alone. The crew has a good laugh at Naoise's difficulties with keeping an eye on Scathacha, but their fun is cut short by a monster attack on a trade caravan outside of town.

(Captain) and company have returned to patrolling the castle town after their run-in with Skadi.
Old Woman: Oh! Welcome back, Scathacha!
Scathacha: Mm. You look ready for another busy day. So have any rare items come in?
Old Woman: No, sorry. The trade caravans are running late. My stock hasn't changed since the last time you visited.
Scathacha: I see. That's boring.
Naoise: Hey, Scathacha! Didn't I tell you not to wander off by yourself?
Scathacha: Hah, it's sad that you can't even keep up with this body.
Old Woman: Oh my! You were with Naoise!
Old Woman: Must be nice to have a valorous knight at your beck and call. I'm jealous...
Scathacha: Humph... He's always meddling in my affairs.
Naoise: Oh, for heaven's sake...
Vyrn: Bahaha! She's got him wrapped around her finger!
Lyria: I know what you mean, but they kind of go well together.
Townsman: Naoise! The trade caravan's being attacked by monsters outside of town!
Naoise: Understood! I'm on my way!
Vyrn: We can't just leave it all to you! (Captain), let's go!

Hero's Return - Chapter 4: Black Wings of Fury - Episode 4: Scene 2

Naoise comes to the aid of the merchant just in time. (Captain) and company join the battle, protecting the caravan from behind.

Merchant: Aaagh! Get away from me!
Monster: Groooar!
The monster is about to pounce on the merchant, when Naoise comes to the rescue.
Naoise: Haaah!
Merchant: I'm saved!
Naoise: Remain calm! We'll take it from here!
Naoise: (Captain)! Cover the rear!

Hero's Return - Chapter 4: Black Wings of Fury - Episode 4: Scene 3

Skadi seems to be able to influence monsters just as Scathacha once did. As the monsters become more violent, the need to get Scathacha's powers back grows ever more urgent.

The crew rescues the trade caravan from monsters and escorts them safely to the castle town.
They find Heles at the castle delegating orders to guardsmen who will be sent out to protect various towns.
Heles: Naoise, just the person I need to see. I know you just got back, but I have another monster extermination request for you.
Naoise: Yes, Your Highness!
Scathacha: Hm...
Lyria: What's the matter, Scathacha?
Scathacha: It's possible the monsters are growing more agitated and vicious due to Skadi.
Scathacha: I had long been able to keep those monsters in check with my power. Skadi, who was a part of me, should have no trouble influencing them.
Naoise: I see... That is a problem...
Seruel: (I knew we would hit a wall.)
Seruel: (We have to regain Deirdre's powers as soon as possible.)
Due to Skadi's influence, Alster Island is on the verge of once again becoming a crucible of chaos.
To return the island to its halcyon days, the crew must take a stand against the coming storm.

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 1

Driven by the wrath of Skadi, flying monsters have breached the town walls. Naoise leads the charge into town.

Skadi, the manifestation of pure hatred, is causing the monsters to become more violent.
Not even the castle town is spared, for news of approaching flying monsters reaches the Great Court.
Naoise: Sorry, (Captain), but could you lend us your aid in felling the monsters that have appeared in town?
Vyrn: They're here? That's bad news! We gotta move!
Lyria: Let's go, (Captain)!
Naoise: Thank you. Follow me!

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 1: Scene 2

Scathacha slips into town to gauge the extent of the monster attacks and is disheartened by what she sees. A monster appears as she is conversing with the hair accessories vendor, but Naoise is there to save the day.

Scathacha: ...
While (Captain) and the others head to confront the monsters, Scathacha sneaks into town.
Scathacha: Everything has... changed. All in an instant. Now there are monsters everywhere...
Old Woman: Scathacha? That you, dear? It's not safe outside. Hurry on home now.
Scathacha: I guess you're not open today...
Old Woman: I'm sorry. Especially since it's not often that I get to see you.
Old Woman: But don't worry. We have Seruel and Heles.
Old Woman: The monsters will be gone soon, and when that happens, please come and try as many accessories as you like.
Scathacha: You really have faith in those two, don't you.
Old Woman: Yes, yes. They are absolutely wonderful. Oh, and Naoise too of course.
Scathacha: ...
The old woman gently pats Scathacha on the head. Scathacha sinks into a deep calm but is quickly interrupted.
Monster: Graawr!
Scathacha: A monster!
Old Woman: Run, Scathacha!
Scathacha: What are you doing? You need to run too—
Monster: Groooar!
Naoise: Are you all right, miss?
(Captain) and the others rush between the old woman and the monsters before tragedy can strike.
Scathacha: Don't worry. She's not injured.
Naoise: Scathacha? What are you doing here?
Monster: Grooar!
Vyrn: Save it, Naoise! We got bigger fish to fry!

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 2

Scathacha reaches a decision to take responsibility for her rage. She asks Seruel and Heles to make her a new vessel, and preparations for the revival ceremony begin.

Naoise: Scathacha. You can't just leave the Great Court on your own. We wouldn't be able to protect you if anything were to happen.
Scathacha: Sorry... I wanted to see what was happening to the town with my own eyes.
Naoise: Let's go back to the Great Court, okay?
Scathacha: Mm.
Seruel: What is it that you wish to discuss with us so urgently?
Scathacha: I want you to begin the ceremony to create my new vessel.
Scathacha: With the right vessel, I can draw on the energy of my core and subdue the monsters.
Heles: May I take that to mean you are willing to reforge the pact with us?
Scathacha: Yes. I made my decision after what I saw in the town.
Scathacha: Is there a difference between the heart of a mortal and the heart of a dragon?
Scathacha: What torments the people now is my own overflowing rage. It's my responsibility to stop it.
Seruel: I understand. We are indebted to you for your gracious decision.
Heles: We'll begin preparing for the ceremony right away. The summoning circle must be readied on the roof of the castle.
Scathacha: My fate is in your hands.

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 3

News arrives that an immense horde of monsters is amassing outside the town walls. Naoise and the crew rush to the town outskirts to stop them from getting in.

Naoise: What did you say?
The color drains from Naoise's face after receiving news from a watchman.
Lyria: What is it, Naoise? You've gone pale all of a sudden...
Naoise: A horde of monsters bigger than anyone has ever seen before is closing in on us.
Naoise: Unless we do something, the walls will be destroyed and an avalanche of monsters will sweep through town.
Lyria: We can't stand by and watch that happen!
Heles: My brother and I must stay here and complete the preparations for the ceremony.
Heles: Naoise. Since you came back, I've made one demand of you after another, but I'm afraid I must turn to you again.
Naoise: Yes, Your Highness!
Heles: Because we face our darkest hour, I'm afraid I must ask for your help as well, (Captain). As such, I sincerely apologize.
Vyrn: Hey, forget about it! We hate being bystanders. Am I right, (Captain)?
Naoise: You are strong and compassionate, (Captain). Thank you.
Lyria: Those monsters aren't going to wait for us! We have to get out there!

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 3: Scene 2

Naoise and the crew are all that stand between the castle town and utter destruction from a horde of monsters.

Monsters: Grrr...
Vyrn: Gulp... Yeah, that's a horde all right...
Naoise: It doesn't matter. This town will perish if we fail.
Naoise: I couldn't exactly help with the restoration, but that's precisely why I will protect this town that grew from the ashes with my life!
Naoise: You monsters shall take not a single step further!

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 4

There's no rest between wave after wave of monsters that come crashing down on the crew. But for the sake of his homeland, Naoise will not rest either.

Monster: Gyaargh!
Vyrn: Ugh! It's like when you take out one, another two pop up!
Naoise: Hah! You're sorely mistaken if you think this is enough to defeat me!
Naoise: Remember this well, invaders of my homeland! My name is Naoise! Prepare to die!

Hero's Return - Chapter 5: Creeping Malice - Episode 4: Scene 2

Steel clashes against flesh; the crew begins to tire in the face of so many monsters. Naoise refuses to rest at first, but he eventually allows the townspeople to take watch when he realizes that they are also fighting for their homeland.

Wave after wave of monsters bombard the castle town, incited by Skadi.
Battered by the succession of waves, even (Captain) and the crew are beginning to wilt.
Naoise: We've finished them off for the time being, but there's bound to be more...
Vyrn: Whew... That was a ton of 'em. You really think there's more comin'?
Naoise: I don't know, but we can't let our guard down.
Townsman: Heeey! Naoise! Skyfarers!
Lyria: Huh? Oh, it's that man from the stall...
Townsman: Thank goodness you're all safe. Come in and take a breather!
Naoise: No, they might come back at any minute. We can't leave our post.
Townsman: We can handle being lookouts if that's what you need! At least let us take care of that for you.
Townsman: You guys are gonna need all the rest you can get when it comes to crunch time.
Vyrn: Yeah, even (Captain) looks pooped...
Vyrn: Cool, let's take 'em up on their offer! Whaddaya say, (Captain)? Eh, Naoise?
Naoise: But... it's my duty to protect this town...
Heles: What are you doing, Naoise? Stop wasting time.
Naoise: Heles! What of the preparations for the ceremony?
Heles: I've done all I can. Now it's in Seruel's and Deirdre's hands.
Heles: What we need here is someone to command our forces against the monsters.
Townsman: On your orders, all citizens have mobilized to defend the castle town.
Heles: Thank you for relaying that message. I ask that you remain here to keep watch over the wall.
Townsman: You got it! I'm no knight, but I'm ready to lay down my life for my home all the same!
Naoise: Home...
Yes, home. This town is important to you too.
Naoise: I owe you a great deal. But please, for my sake, don't do anything reckless.
The desire to protect one's beloved home brings out the strength of the people, even in those who can't fight.
But a veil of darkness approaches from the skies, threatening to smother those hopes and dreams.

Hero's Return - Chapter 6: Island of Heroes - Episode 1

(Captain) and company are hailed as heroes upon their return within the castle town walls, but Naoise redirects that honor back onto the townspeople. After a brief rest at a local tavern, they head back to the front lines to do battle with the next wave of monsters.

(Captain) and the others are getting some much needed rest as they prepare to face more monsters.
Meanwhile the townspeople are following Heles's orders to bolster the town's defenses.
Old Woman: Goodness gracious, the heroes have returned!
Cheers erupt from the townspeople. Some rush over to thank the crew for protecting them.
Naoise slowly scans the crowd before slowly shaking his head.
Naoise: The only heroes I see are all the people gathered here before me.
Naoise: Together we will defend our home and restore peace to the land!
His words are met with a rousing ovation. The townspeople are ready for whatever may come.
The crew is resting at a tavern recommended by the townsfolk.
Vyrn: (Captain)! We got word that the next bunch of monsters have been spotted!
Naoise: Time to go, (Captain). We'll be the ones to give them a warm reception!

Hero's Return - Chapter 6: Island of Heroes - Episode 2

Seruel completes the summoning circle. Although he doesn't have the remnants of Scathacha's magic to help him, the fearless smile on his face tells the whole story.

Seruel: Perfect. The summoning circle is complete.
Scathacha: Not bad. Your magical powers are strong even for a member of the royal family.
Scathacha: Your family line has always used the remaining magic in my old vessel when creating a new one.
Scathacha: Now we will see if you are up to the task but without the benefit of said magic.
Seruel: Hah. As King Connor's living heir, it is my duty to atone for the sins of my father.
Seruel: But above all else, please refrain from denigrating my power!
Seruel: With my blood and with my magic, I hereby restore the old pact!
Lyria: Look up there! The castle roof is glowing!
Naoise: Seruel and Scathacha have begun the ceremony.
Naoise: Don't let any of these monsters interrupt it!

Hero's Return - Chapter 6: Island of Heroes - Episode 2: Scene 2

Skadi emerges from the sky and makes a beeline for the Great Court. Naoise realizes it wants to stop Seruel and Scathacha from completing the ceremony.

Vyrn: Argh, there's no end to 'em! How many more can there be?
Naoise: Even the largest horde has its limit. We must hold out until then.
Lyria: Do you think the other side of town is doing okay?
Naoise: Heles has it locked down with royal soldiers. We should stay focused on our—
Naoise: Wait! That's...
Skadi: Groooar!
Naoise: So you've decided to show your face, Skadi!
Vyrn: It's way high up there... We can't reach it with arrows or magic!
Naoise: Where is it going?
Scathacha: ...
Naoise: It can't be... It's aiming for Seruel and Scathacha at the ceremony!
Lyria: I think you're right! It's heading for the Great Court!
Naoise: We can't let that happen! Those two are completely defenseless while the ceremony is underway!
Monster: Groooar!
Naoise: Ngh! Get out of the way!

Hero's Return - Chapter 6: Island of Heroes - Episode 3

(Captain) and company are losing ground in pursuit of Skadi. Heles and the townspeople arrive to buy the crew some time by catapulting rocks at Skadi.

Skadi: Roooar!
Seruel: Skadi? Your timing couldn't be any worse!
Scathacha: No, it was waiting for this moment all along.
Scathacha: Its form is probably still unstable. It is a fragment of my emotions and power after all.
Scathacha: It must be after the new vessel we're creating.
Seruel: Of course... Skadi, as a fragment of yourself, should have no problem controlling a new vessel meant for you either.
Scathacha: Focus on the ceremony, Seruel. It's too late now to halt the invocation.
Seruel: Yes... You're right.
Seruel: (Sister, (Captain), Naoise! We leave it to you!)
Naoise: Curses! We can't keep up with it!
Heles: Leave this to us and go on ahead!
Lyria: Heles!
Heles issues orders to the soldiers and townspeople.
The soldiers move enormous catapults into position.
Heles: Take aim!
Fiiire!
Skadi: ...!
Skadi flips in midair and obliterates the boulders hurtling toward it with blasts of black flame.
Heles: Stand your ground! Ready the next volley!
The continuous barrage of rocks from the catapults blocks Skadi from progressing any further.
Naoise: Hurry, (Captain)! The catapults will buy us some time but not much!

Hero's Return - Chapter 6: Island of Heroes - Episode 4

Skadi manages to interrupt the ceremony, merging both Scathacha and Skadi within the same body. Naoise determines that they have no choice but to fight it in order to protect the town that Scathacha had come to love.

Naoise: Seruel! Scathacha!
Vyrn: Did we make it?
Deirdre: ...
Lyria: That's... not Skadi. Scathacha?
Seruel: Don't get any closer to it!
Lyria: Huh?
Seruel: Skadi appeared in the middle of the ceremony and interfered with the invocation.
Seruel: As a result Scathacha and Skadi are both within that vessel—Ungh!
Naoise: Seruel!
Seruel: It's nothing serious. A bit of shock remained due to the magical interference.
Seruel: I'm not the one you should be concerned with.
Deirdre: Gyaaa!
Lyria: Eeek! Hang in there, Scathacha!
Deirdre: ...!
Vyrn: Uh, I don't think she can hear us anymore!
Seruel: Skadi is a wrath so great that you would lose yourself to it if it weren't excised.
Seruel: Now that they share one body, Scathacha's heart is being devoured by Skadi.
Lyria: That's horrible!
(Captain) and the others can only wring their hands as Deirdre writhes before them.
Naoise alone takes a step toward Deirdre.
Naoise: Let us fight.
Lyria: Naoise! Scathacha's in there too!
Naoise: That's exactly why we must fight! She loves this town and all those who dwell in it.
Naoise: We can't allow her cherished treasures to perish by her own hands!
Seruel: I fear Naoise is right.
Seruel and Naoise draw their weapons. (Captain), having come to the same conclusion, follows suit.
Lyria: (Captain)!
Deirdre: Groooar!
Naoise: Come!

Hero's Return - Ending

Seruel and Heles are prepared to give their lives in exchange for creating a new vessel for Scathacha. Naoise impulsively steps into the reactivated summoning circle, unleashing Deirdre's magic that lay within him. He awakens days later to find that he has succeeded; Scathacha resumes protection over Alster in her new vessel.

Deirdre: ...!
Lyria: Has it calmed down? Why does it still feel like everything is buzzing?
Heles: Deirdre's vessel is about to collapse.
Vyrn: Huh? Why would something like that happen?
Heles: Scathacha and Skadi are no longer the same dragon.
Heles: This vessel that was created for Scathacha is rejecting Skadi as a foreign contaminant.
Lyria: Then will our Scathacha be okay?
The dragon's body begins to crumble just as Heles had said. Skadi reemerges as if grasping for one final moment of resistance.
Skadi: Graaah!
Dragging the collapsing body behind it, Skadi swings its claws at Naoise with lethal intent.
Naoise: ...!
But Naoise slips through and pierces Skadi's flank with his spear.
Naoise: Forgive me...
Skadi: ...!
Scathacha: Ungh...
Naoise: Scathacha!
Skadi fades away, leaving Scathacha crumpled in a heap. Heles lifts the limp body in her arms.
Heles: It's still possible, isn't it, Seruel?
Seruel: Of course, Sister.
Naoise: What are you two... What do you plan to do?
Heles: We will pour our magic into Scathacha to rebuild her vessel.
Lyria: But haven't you already used up all your magic, Seruel?
Lyria: And I don't feel any magic coming from Scathacha...
Seruel: Yes, but Heles and I will dig deep. We will use what remains of our magic... and our lives.
Naoise: Your lives?
Heles: There's a price to pay if a mortal's power is to be substituted for the magical power of the true dragon. It doesn't come cheaply.
Heles: Let's begin, Seruel!
Heles ignores Naoise's protests and reactivates the summoning circle.
Naoise: Seruel!
Heles!
Before they can give their lives to the shining circle, Naoise shoves the pair out of the way.
Seruel: Naoise!
Naoise: Yaaargh!
Seruel: Naoise!
Naoise: Ngh...
Where... am I?
Seruel: Can you hear me, Naoise?
Naoise: Seruel?
Naoise: Scathacha! What happened to Scathacha?
Seruel: Calm down, Naoise. You've been unconscious for several days.
Naoise: Days? Is that so...
Heles: You shouldn't even be alive right now. It's because of your previous battle with Deirdre.
Heles: You were covered in Deirdre's blood, and in essence, her magical powers.
Heles: That magic lay dormant within you, and then it was unleashed when you stepped upon the summoning circle.
Naoise: I see. And thanks to that I'm still alive.
Seruel: You are unbelievably fortunate. And equally as reckless as always.
Naoise: Neither you nor Heles have any right to say that!
Seruel: What?
Vyrn: Haha! Yeah, you shouldn't sacrifice yourself on the spur of the moment!
(Captain) and the others gather around Naoise and chat for a while.
???: ...
Naoise: So this is where you've been, Deirdre.
???: ...
Naoise: Deirdre?
???: Didn't I tell you to stop talking to me like that, Naoise?
???: And did you forget the name you gave me while you were asleep?
Naoise: ...!
Naoise's bewildered look turns into a smile as True Dragon Scathacha's expression once again softens.
Naoise: Scathacha. For once again protecting the denizens of Alster from the monsters... I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Scathacha: Yes, people-watching isn't such a bad thing.
Scathacha: So let's go take a look. I want to see their hustle and bustle! I want to see their vigor!
Naoise and Scathacha climb to the top of the Great Court and look out over Alster.
People mill about in the town below. Each and every one of them has their own story to tell.
As the citizens put the days of ruin behind them, they find a new life in helping out one another.
Under the watchful eye of the true dragon, the people of Alster take their first steps toward forging a new history.
