The cousin of Romeo, Mercutio serves as a military commander for the Montagues. As a child, Mercutio often saw Romeo at Montague family gatherings. He is one of the only people who can joke around with Romeo. Since joining the military, the two have often served together, with Mercutio watching over Romeo.
