A monstrosity formed when Chisui mosquitoes—found only in the village of the same name—swarm together to take on the form of a person. The "Makunagi" refers to both these mosquitoes and the mosquito people they create. Mosquito people have the peculiar ability to phase through attacks from anyone whose blood or life force has been drained by a Chisui mosquito, and they function like a single organism thanks to countless mosquitoes dividing the roles of organs, nerves, and muscles between them. In the past, a forbidden ritual made use of this trait, replacing parts of a body damaged by age or illness—or at times the body in its entirety—with Chisui mosquitoes in pursuit of rejuvenation or resurrection.
