A Lost Child and an Alchemist

Cagliostro begins researching Lost Jack, the so-called king of Halloween, but the crew fails to find any information on him. Unwilling to give up, Cagliostro begins preparations for a ceremony to summon him.

Sierokarte: Oh, you want to know about Lost Jack?
Cagliostro: Yep! I wanna know everything about him!
As part of her research, Cagliostro is collecting information about Lost Jack.
She goes around with (Captain) and the others to ask Sierokarte and the villagers about him.
Sierokarte: Well, Lost Jack is also known as the king of Halloween.
Sierokarte: I think that's all I or anyone else around here knows other than rumors.
Cagliostro: Hmm... The king of Halloween, huh?
Cagliostro, (Captain), and the others ask around town, but they can't get any detailed information.
Vyrn: You know, you'd think people would know more about this so-called king...
Villager: Well, no one's even sure what he is. They say he might be a ghost or even a primal beast.
Villager: You know all that trick-or-treat stuff?
Villager: It's a common custom now, but they say it's based on something Lost Jack used to do.
Villager: Yet we barely even know how that got started, so finding information on who he was might be a tall order.
Cagliostro: Well, these people aren't much help.
Vyrn: Yeah, we hardly learned anything.
Cagliostro: That's no surprise considering he might be a primal beast.
Cagliostro: If he lived thousands of years ago, naturally there isn't going to be much left about him. Though I might be the exception to that rule.
Cagliostro: And yet there should still be more than we found.
Lyria: I suppose there's nothing left for us to do now but talk to him ourselves!
Cagliostro: I guess you're right. Though it does sounds like a bit of a hassle.
Cagliostro: Still, if we follow the right procedure, I'm sure he'll show up.
Cagliostro: The first step would be to gather candles from the pumpkin ghosts, I believe?
Vyrn: Yeah! If we get a bunch of candles together and light 'em up, he'll show up for sure!
Cagliostro: Then it's settled. Let's get this little chore taken care of!

A Lost Child and an Alchemist: Scene 2

(Captain) and company search for pumpkin ghosts to get candles used to summon Lost Jack, but some skyfarers show up and demand that they hand over their candles. Cagliostro, who is much older than she appears, vows to teach the bullies a lesson in respect.

(Captain) and the crew get several candles from the pumpkin ghosts.
But they still don't have enough to summon Lost Jack, so they continue their search.
Cagliostro: Hmm... Where oh where could those pesky little ghosts be hiding?
Vyrn: Hey, are you taking this seriously? Don't just make us do all the work.
Cagliostro: Now that's just mean! I'm always serious!
Cagliostro: How about a very physical lesson in just how serious I can get?
Vyrn: Eek!
Lyria: We're just not finding any. Maybe there aren't any more around here...
Cagliostro: That could well be. Perhaps we should check somewhere else.
Skyfarer 1: Howdy! We've been watching you guys! Not bad for a bunch of kids!
Vyrn: Huh? Are you skyfarers too?
Skyfarer 2: You know it. Now let me ask you...
Skyfarer 2: How 'bout handing over all those candles?
Vyrn: In your dreams! Besides, that's cheating!
Skyfarer 1: Oh, shut up! We're sick of looking for these stupid things.
Skyfarer 1: So why don't you kids just do what the grown-ups say before things get ugly, okay?
Cagliostro: Hee-hee...
Skyfarer 1: What's so funny?
Cagliostro: Oh, sorry! That was just such a funny thing to say! Punk.
Cagliostro: You need another thousand years and then some before you can call me a kid.
Cagliostro: Now, it's time to let the real grown up here teach you brats a lesson.

A Lost Child and an Alchemist: Scene 3

The crew gathers enough candles to summon Lost Jack. Cagliostro learns what he is, but refuses to reveal the secret. She instead says that playing with Lost Jack is what Halloween is all about.

With the would-be candle thieves taken care of, (Captain) and company continue collecting candles.
They soon collect enough to summon Lost Jack.
Cagliostro: All right, this should do it.
Lost Jack: ...
Cagliostro: There he is.
Vyrn: S-so this is Lost Jack?
Lost Jack: ...
Cagliostro: I see... Interesting.
Cagliostro: I get it now. That's why you're lost. They still have a lot to learn.
Lyria: Cagliostro, did you learn something?
Cagliostro: Hey, don't forget that you're addressing the original girl genius of alchemy.
Cagliostro: With the real Lost Jack right in front of me, how could I not figure everything out?
Vyrn: So who is he then?
Cagliostro: Well...
Lost Jack: ...
Cagliostro: I see.
Cagliostro: You know what? Never mind. Lost Jack's secret will stay safe with me.
Vyrn: Huh? But why? You were just about to spill it!
Cagliostro: Changed my mind. The mind of a young girl is a fickle thing.
Cagliostro: And the point of this festival is to play with him anyway.
Cagliostro: It's not about exposing who or what he is to the world. I know, and that's good enough.
Lost Jack: ...
Cagliostro: Besides, he doesn't seem so bad.
Cagliostro: It's funny really. He might look tough, but he's just a kid on the inside.
Lyria: Um... What does all this mean?
Cagliostro: Jack wants us to play with him. That's the best part of Halloween, and it's why we're here, right?
Cagliostro: Come on, Jack. I'm game if you are. I'll give you a Halloween you'll never forget!

A Lost Child and an Alchemist: Scene 4

Lost Jack disappears into the night, and Cagliostro chooses not to reveal what he's looking for or where he's going. Still, Cagliostro seems happy that the Halloween festival helps him.

Lost Jack: ...
The sound of Lost Jack echoes through the night as he fades into the darkness.
All Cagliostro, (Captain), and the others can do is watch as he disappears.
Vyrn: Well, he's gone, but are you okay with that?
Cagliostro: I guess. I'm not really the babysitting type.
Vyrn: Seriously? So you think of even primal beasts as kids?
Cagliostro: Why wouldn't I? I am older than Lost Jack after all.
Lyria: It must be so lonely to be lost all the time.
Cagliostro: Don't be so sure about that.
Lyria: Huh?
Cagliostro: Just look at all the people who get together to play with him every year.
Cagliostro: Besides, he's not actually lost anymore.
Lyria: Really?
Cagliostro: Well, I can't tell you if he found what he was looking for or not...
Cagliostro: But he was able to find where he belongs thanks to this festival.
Cagliostro: You get it, right? There'd be no Halloween without him.
Cagliostro: Even if he didn't reach his intended destination, it doesn't mean that was the only place for him. Right, (Captain)?
As they listen to Cagliostro, (Captain) and the others gaze at the darkness into which Lost Jack disappeared.
Cagliostro stares into the darkness as well, but she smiles as she does so.
