A Demon's Wrath
The crew, Rimuru, and Diablo are having tea when an unknown man bursts into the room. He claims monsters led by a Rimuru look-alike have invaded his hometown. Rimuru orders Diablo to stop them. Diablo, angered that an imposter is tarnishing Rimuru's image, gladly heads to the besieged town with the crew.
(Captain) and company stop by an island to resupply and carry out maintenance.
Once their shopping errands are finished, (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn pay a visit to Rimuru's room.
Lyria: Good afternoon, Rimuru! Are you there? We brought some snacks and were wondering if you'd like to join us.
Diablo: Ah, greetings. Great Rimuru is resting inside.
Rimuru: Hello out there! Did I hear the word "snacks"? I'm definitely up for a tea pa—
Diablo: Tea is served. I was able to find tea leaves that closely match your favorite ones.
Rimuru: You didn't even let me finish! But thanks...
Diablo: And I'll have some ready for our guests as well. Please have a seat.
Vyrn: Thanks for takin' care of the drinks, Diablo. You oughta dig into the snacks with us!
Lyria: Uh-huh. After all, we were planning on brewing the tea.
Lyria: Doesn't working all the time tire you out?
Diablo: Hardly. On the contrary, serving my king is invigorating.
Diablo: Those are the moments I live for.
Vyrn: If you say so... You totally go above and beyond for Rimuru, huh?
Vyrn: Did you save Diablo's life or something, Rimuru?
Rimuru: Nope, not as far as I know.
Rimuru: It's actually the other way around. I had a problem, so I summoned Diablo, and he solved it for me.
Diablo: That's an understatement. Great Rimuru is a blessing—one that transcends having my life saved.
Diablo: Being summoned by my king had such a profound impact on me that it completely shifted my mindset.
Diablo: It's safe to say Great Rimuru has moved me deeply.
Vyrn: Uh, right... That flew over my head, but it's obvious you've got Rimuru on the brain.
Diablo: That's more or less the right idea. I'll leave it at that, since anything else I have to say is fluff.
Diablo: By the way, I've noticed an insect buzzing around the halls of your ship. I suggest having it dealt with.
Lyria: Is it really a problem? Well, it'd be bad if it turns out to be venomous I guess...
Diablo: Sure, it may not seem like much of a threat now, but—
Man: Pardon me! Where might I find the captain of this ship?
Vyrn: What the! Who the heck are you!
The bewildered passengers stare at the unknown man who has just barged into the room.
Diablo: You are in the presence of Great Rimuru. Such rudeness will not be tolerated.
Man: Eeek! My sincerest apologies!
Rimuru: That's enough, Diablo! You're going too far!
Diablo: My mistake.
Vyrn: Are you from around here? Can't just board other people's ships without askin', y'know.
Man: Yes, I do know, and I'm sorry for the sudden intrusion. I live in a town on the northern side of the island.
Man: This morning, a huge swarm of monsters swept through our little burgh from out of nowhere! It's a disaster!
Man: I managed to slip away and ran to the port as fast as I could to seek help!
Lyria: We have to get over there, (Captain)!
(Captain) has already stood up and asks the man to lead the way.
Man: You are most kind! Please follow—
Man: Er... Why is that sli—girl here!
Rimuru: Hm? Who, me?
Lyria: Should Rimuru not be here?
Man: I forgot to mention that the attack wasn't random; someone was leading the monsters.
Man: And that someone looked exactly like her...
Man: Gasp! Don't tell me your crew is in cahoots with those monsters!
Diablo: Oh? Only a fool would levy such a grave accusation against Great Rimuru and (Captain).
Diablo: There are consequences for trespassing on this ship and insulting its passengers.
Man: Nooo! You really are one of them!
Rimuru: Quit it, Diablo! Your threatening intent isn't exactly a good look for us.
Diablo: Urk... My apologies.
Lyria: Rimuru isn't a criminal, and neither are we!
Vyrn: Yeah! Heck, we just got here today.
Vyrn: Why would we attack your town? And if Rimuru's the one leading the monsters, how could Rimuru be here at the same time?
Man: Oh, r-right... I'm sorry for suspecting you, Rimuru.
Rimuru: ...?
Just glad we got that sorted out.
Just glad we got that sorted out.
Diablo: But if what this man says is true, that means an imposter is responsible for the raid.
Diablo: Could it be a product of that bothersome artifact again?
Diablo: Well, it doesn't matter how copies of Great Rimuru are being made. The fact that it's occurring at all is inexcusable.
Rimuru: (Oh boy, he's mad.)
Rimuru: (Still, can't have a lookalike stirring up trouble. I'd better nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand.)
Rimuru: Okay, got it. Diablo, head out with (Captain)-san and the others.
Rimuru: I'm leaving this situation to you while I stay behind. My face would only create more fear among the townspeople.
Diablo: I am happy to serve and shall follow your command to the letter.
Diablo: Once I find the culprit responsible for sullying your reputation, am I free to judge them as I see fit?
Rimuru: Sure. No, wait. Only if it doesn't cause problems for the townspeople and (Captain)-san's crew.
Diablo: Heheheh... As you wish. Now let us be off, (Captain).
Eager to fulfill Rimuru's command, Diablo gently but firmly steers the crew out the door.
It won't be long before the cavalry arrives at the besieged town.
A Demon's Wrath: Scene 2
Diablo and the crew quickly defeat the monsters while evacuating the townspeople, but the unknown man has vanished. The evacuees don't recognize the missing man, leading Diablo to conclude that the man was part of a trap to lure out the crew. Catching sight of the Rimuru imposter, Diablo knows he's being baited, but he intentionally gives chase.
Diablo and (Captain) had heard the screams even before setting foot in town.
The streets are filled with monsters chasing after the residents.
Vyrn: Yikes! No time to stand around, you guys!
Diablo: Despite their numbers, this shouldn't be difficult for me and (Captain).
Diablo: Vyrn, Lyria. See to the evacuation of the citizens.
Lyria: Got it! Be careful, you two!
In almost no time flat, (Captain) and Diablo decimate the horde.
After felling the final intruder, the two reconvene with Lyria and Vyrn.
Diablo: Over already. I hardly had the chance to play with my prey.
Lyria: All the townspeople made it to the safety shelter too.
Lyria: Everyone's still on edge though... They said a monster attack like this has never happened before.
Diablo: Hm... And we've yet to determine if there are any monster nests nearby.
Diablo: But judging by how quickly the monsters knew to retreat, it's clearer than ever someone is pulling the strings.
Lyria: Someone who looks like Rimuru...
Diablo: Right, plus...
Diablo: I get the feeling the artifact has no part in this.
Vyrn: What makes you say that?
Diablo: A portion of Great Rimuru's power was present in the copy.
Diablo: Yet I haven't felt any trace of Great Rimuru's presence in this town.
Diablo: Which leads me to believe the culprit's ability to mimic my king is only skin-deep.
Vyrn: So we're not talking about an actual copy of Rimuru but someone using magic to disguise themselves?
Diablo: I'd like to question the townsfolk. All we have to go by right now is that man's testimony.
Vyrn: Yeah... Huh?
Vyrn: Speaking of which, where'd he go?
The man who had enlisted the crew's help is nowhere to be seen.
Lyria: Oh no! Do you think the monsters got him?
Diablo: Stay calm. There isn't a waft of mortal blood in the air.
Diablo: He didn't appear to be a fighter. Perhaps the monsters scared him off to the safety shelter?
Vyrn: That's probably it! Let's go make sure, and while we're there, we can interview the townspeople!
Hoping to find the missing man, (Captain) and company hurry to the shelter.
Townsperson 1: Thank you so much, skyfarers! We all made it out alive!
Lyria: Hooray! That's a huge relief!
Lyria: Hm... I still don't see the man though...
Vyrn: You sure you guys ain't missin' anyone? What about the dude who ran to the port to get us? Seen him anywhere?
Townsperson 1: No one's said anything about a missing person. We did a headcount and everyone's accounted for.
Townsperson 2: And you're certain that person lives in our town?
Townsperson 2: The road to the port was infested with monsters. It's hard to imagine someone making it past those vicious things by themselves.
Townsperson 1: My thoughts exactly. I figured it was pure dumb luck a wandering skyfaring crew happened to come to our rescue...
Diablo: Hm... Yes. The pieces fit.
Vyrn: Figure something out?
Diablo: It's simple. That man doesn't belong to this town nor is he some random altruist.
Diablo: He's part of the ploy to draw us into this mess.
Lyria: Oh dear!
Diablo: I may be a newcomer to these skies, but it's easy to recognize your crew's excellent reputation.
Diablo: Earn enough respect from the masses, and there will always be dissenters and profiteers among them.
Vyrn: I mean, I'm sure there are haters out there, but we shouldn't jump to conclusions, right?
Diablo: Perhaps. Then would this change your mind?
Without warning, Diablo shoots out his hand and snatches a fistful of air. He opens his hand, revealing an insect.
Vyrn: Whoa, what the—
Lyria: Gasp! It disappeared!
Lyria: That was no ordinary bug, was it?
Diablo: A creation of magic most likely. Like the one I saw inside the Grandcypher.
Vyrn: No way!
Diablo: Their scheme is ramping up, and we won't know the end goal until we interrogate the mastermind.
Monster Horde: Grooar!
Vyrn: They're back!
Diablo: It's pointless to prune leaves when we should be ripping out the roots.
Diablo: (Captain), allow me to eliminate the perpetrator, who is tarnishing my king's reputation.
Diablo: My, my, how inspiring. Then I shall count on you to protect this town.
Lyria: Okay! Please be careful, Diablo!
Choose: We'll handle the monsters then.
Diablo: Yes, I know you will. Let's make sure we accomplish our respective duties.
Vyrn: We'll come help ya after finishing up here!
Continue 1
Diablo: Heheheh... I'll be done before you know it.
Still hovering in the air, Diablo scans the area for anything suspicious.
Rimuru?: ...!
Diablo: Heheheh!
Diablo: A bold move, exposing yourself as bait. Out of respect for your madness, I suppose I'll play along.
With a lazy flap of his wings, Diablo sets off toward the Rimuru lookalike.
Although he's smiling on the outside, his rage swirls on the inside.
A Demon's Wrath: Scene 3
The Rimuru imposter is the unknown man in disguise, a sorcerer yearning to rule the world with Diablo's help. Diablo refuses and easily defeats the sorcerer's monster forces. As a last resort, the sorcerer assumes Rimuru's form and begs for mercy. An offended Diablo makes the sorcerer disappear. Returning back to the ship, Diablo is lauded by Rimuru for his efforts.
Diablo leaves town in pursuit of the mysterious figure.
The Rimuru lookalike has stopped in an open field, as if to welcome Diablo's arrival.
Diablo: Are we done running away? Because I have questions that need answers.
Diablo: You lack any trace of Great Rimuru's power, meaning you're not a copy.
Diablo: Is it a camouflage spell? Whatever it is, it annoys me to no end. Hurry up and reveal your true form.
Rimuru?: Hehe... Impatient, are we? Oh well, this form has served its purpose.
Sorcerer: I knew you'd come alone if I looked like her, just as I'd planned.
Diablo: Now that's interesting. It almost sounds like I'm your target and not (Captain)'s crew.
Diablo: Considering I have no ties to this world, what could you possibly want with me?
Sorcerer: It's honestly quite simple. Long have I dreamt of acquiring enough power to rule these skies.
Sorcerer: To that end, I exhausted myself day and night, yet this paltry monster army is all I have to show for my efforts.
Sorcerer: But then you came along! Oh, if only I had your brimming abnormal power... Not even primal beasts could stand against me!
Sorcerer: You are the key to my future triumphs! I scouted that airship for ways to win you to my side.
Sorcerer: Then it was simply a matter of manipulating your master to bring about this momentous meeting.
Sorcerer: Join me! Together we shall subjugate this realm beneath our heels!
Diablo: Heheh... Hahaha!
Diablo: I can't think of the right word to describe your "plan"... Calling it pathetic is giving you too much credit.
Sorcerer: What! How dare you belittle my ambitions—
Diablo: Do not rebuke me, peasant.
Diablo: There is only one individual in this world worthy of issuing me orders—Great Rimuru. You would do well to know your place.
Sorcerer: That weakling couldn't use you half as effectively as I can! You're coming with me one way or another!
The sorcerer casts a spell, causing monsters to quickly surround Diablo.
Monster Horde: ...!
Diablo: What is this? Your display of "power" is an insult to my king.
Diablo: Begone.
Monster Horde: ...!
Sorcerer: Impossible! My army wiped out in a single attack?
With but a sweep of his arm, Diablo has annihilated the monsters.
Now he turns his attention to the aghast sorcerer.
Diablo: This is boring. I wish to be done here and return to Great Rimuru.
Sorcerer: No! W-wait!
Sorcerer: Argh, screw it!
Diablo: ...!
Sorcerer: H-haha! Try hurting me now!
Sorcerer: Please don't kill me, Diablo!
Sorcerer: I'll d-do whatever you say... Please... Just let me go?
Diablo: Curse you...
Diablo: You've crossed the line!
Sorcerer: (O-oh Bahamut... What is he doing!)
Diablo: Despair Time.
Sorcerer: Wh-where am I? Is this barrier magic?
Sorcerer: Have you no shame! Only a demon would attack an opponent that looks like their master without hesitation!
Diablo: Heheheh... Wrong.
Diablo: You can't even manifest a sliver of Great Rimuru's sublime soul. Simple as that.
Diablo: For the sin of improperly negotiating with a demon, you will pay the ultimate price.
Sorcerer: Gaaah!
The sorcerer is sucked into the void conjured by Diablo and disappears.
A parched wind blows across the plains, with Diablo being the only one there to feel it.
Diablo: Finally... And so ends trash duty.
Diablo: Now to hurry back to the others.
Vyrn: Found him! Heyo, Diablo!
Lyria: You're okay! Are you hurt anywhere?
Diablo: I wasn't expecting a rescue party. Aside from having my time wasted, I'm fine.
Diablo: Were you able to dispatch the horde in town?
Vyrn: Not long after you left, practically every monster stopped and ran away.
Vyrn: We figured the big cheese was callin' 'em back, so we gave chase.
Diablo: Excellent. Seeing as how I've vanquished our enemies, the matter is settled.
Vyrn: Wait, all of 'em? The monsters and the big bad?
Diablo: I'm not sure what the fuss is about. A mountain of trash is still trash.
Diablo: Our job is done here, so we needn't linger. Great Rimuru is waiting for us.
After being seen off by the grateful townspeople, Diablo and the others return to the Grandcypher.
Rimuru: Interesting... It never occurred to me to commit crimes to summon Diablo. A bold strategy, I'll say that.
Vyrn: Diablo kicked supremo butt! Bam! Pow! No more bad guys!
Lyria: Yes, he was amazing! He deserves all your praise, Rimuru!
Diablo: Heheh... As if that piddling scuffle warrants any reward.
Diablo: I went easy on the foul sorcerer anyway. I should have dealt with him more thoroughly.
Rimuru: (He seems agitated. Must have been quite the annoying enemy to force Diablo to use so much energy.)
Rimuru: (The least I can do is give him a pat on the back.)
Rimuru: Good work, Diablo. You did well.
Rimuru: I'm proud of the way you aided (Captain)-san and the others.
Diablo: Great R-Rimuru!
Diablo: Aah, your words alone wash away my fatigue...
Diablo: (There's no doubt about it... Great Rimuru is a being unlike any other...)
The loyal butler has already forgotten his scrap with the sorcerer...
For Rimuru's plaudits have sent him into a complete state of ecstasy.
