The Blood Calls

Grea has the same dream every night in which her supposedly late dragon father appears. As her dragon power continues to grow, Grea becomes worried and confides in (Captain) and company, who happen to be in town for a visit. With the new possibility that her real father is still alive, Grea decides to go back to her hometown together with the crew in hopes of finding some answers.

(Captain) and the crew are standing on the deck of the Grandcypher as they sail toward their next destination.
Lyria: Look, (Captain)! Grea! There it is!
Lyria points to an outline of a volcano visible in the distance.
Lyria: Eek! Did that sound come from the volcano?
Vyrn: Gulp... That was loud, and we're not even there yet.
Grea: Right. I sense a strong dragon power... It's almost seething, like the lava in that volcano.
Grea: That volcano's where my father's from. Regnith... The land of dragons.
Lyria: And you said your real father is there?
Grea: Yeah. I can feel us getting closer to him...
Grea: And to some sort of immense dragon power.
Grea looks out at the volcano with a grim expression, clutching her hands to her chest.
Grea: (Mother... I've come this far.)
Grea: (Please. Give me the courage to save Father.)
The girl whispers these words in her heart and closes her eyes as she thinks on the days leading up to this moment.
It all began several weeks ago.
Grea: Sigh...
One night, Grea lies in bed, staring at her own hands.
Grea: (I can handle my dragon powers better now compared to before, but it's still far from perfect.)
Grea: (Whenever I get emotional, my powers start going out of control... I have to try harder.)
Grea is the child of a mortal and a dragon, possessing a dragon tail and wings, as well as tremendous power particular to dragons.
Because she ended up hurting the people around her when she was young, she had always detested her abilities.
However, after a certain incident at Mysteria Academy, Grea has since decided to use her dragon powers to protect people.
Now, she spends every day training herself in hopes of attaining perfect control over her abilities.
Grea: Ugh...
Grea: (Not again... Something weird happens to my body whenever I use my dragon powers lately.)
Grea: Whew, I'm kinda tired today. I should sleep...
Grea: (What was that sound?)
Grea is pulled back to consciousness by the sound of a roar.
Grea: (It's so hot... Just breathing in the air makes me feel like my body's going to catch on fire.)
Grea: (Where... am I?)
Grea: (...!)
She opens her eyes and gasps, startled by the monstrous flames raging before her.
Red Dragon: ...!
Grea: (Is the dragon struggling against the flames?)
Grea: (I'm not sure what's going on, but that dragon's in danger... I have to help!)
Seeing the dragon writhe in pain amid the flames, Grea makes to run toward it, but something obstructs her path.
Grea: (Ugh!)
Dragon Shadow: ...?
Grea: (The flames... They're forming some sort of shape. A dragon? I think it's trying to tell me something...)
Dragon Shadow: ...
Grea: (There's too much noise. I can't hear what it's saying...)
Dragon Shadow: ...
Grea's brows furrow as she squints at the dragon shape. Finally, the figure gives up and turns its back on her.
Instead, the shape faces the red dragon, who continues struggling amid the flames in agony.
Grea: (Wait! What are you going to do with that dragon?)
Dragon Shadow: ...
The figure glances back at Grea before opening its mouth wide and biting hard into the red dragon.
Red Dragon: ...!
Grea's eyes widen when she sees the red dragon caught in the jaws of the dragon figure.
And before she realizes, she lets out a cry.
Grea: Father!
Grea: ...!
Grea wakes to find herself back in her dark bedroom, panting. After taking a moment to calm down, she blinks a few times and slowly sits up.
Grea: Father... Why did I say that?
Grea: I've never even met my real father before.
Grea: So hot... It's like the flames are still flickering somewhere inside me.
Grea: What was that dream? What did it want to tell me?
Grea's shoulders quiver as her faint murmurs melt into the quiet dark of the night.
Several days after Grea first had that dream.
Grea: Sigh...
Grea: (Ever since then, I've been having the same dream every night, but I still don't know what the dragon's saying...)
Grea: (And for some reason, I can feel my dragon powers growing stronger ever since I began having these dreams.)
Grea: Just when I was starting to get the hang of my powers...
The mysterious dragons continue visiting Grea every night in her dreams, and the dragoness can feel her powers fluctuating.
Grea: (Maybe I should write to Anne and tell her about this...)
Grea: (No. She'd be worried if she knew I was struggling so much.)
Grea: (She has things she needs to do as princess too. I wouldn't want to get in her way.)
Grea: (Besides, I can't always depend on Anne to help me. I have to be able to solve my own problems.)
Grea: But... just what am I supposed to do?
Lost in thought, she wraps her arms around her knees dejectedly.
Vyrn: Hey, Pianista! We thought you'd be here!
Grea: Vyrn? (Captain), Lyria... You're here too!
Lyria: It's been a while, Grea! We received a request for something not too far from here and decided to drop by for a visit!
  1. How've you been?

Choose: How've you been?

Grea: All right, thanks. I'm glad to see that all of you are doing great too.
Lyria: Is Anne not with you? We were hoping to say hello to her too.
Grea: Oh, yeah. She's been busy flying around on diplomatic missions.
Vyrn: Oh yeah? So that's why you were lookin' kinda down earlier, huh?
Grea: It does get lonely sometimes without Anne around, but we're sending each other letters, so it's okay.
Vyrn: You sure about that? You're not as energetic as the last time I saw ya. Feelin' under the weather?
Grea: Huh? Do I really look that tired?
Vyrn: Well, it just seems to me like there's something botherin' ya.
Lyria: Hm, really? Grea doesn't look sick to me...
Vyrn peers at Grea, cocking his head to the side. He turns and flies around the area as if looking for something.
Vyrn: Aha!
Vyrn: I got it! It's not Pianista that's not feelin' so good. It's something else!
Grea: Something else? What do you mean?
Vyrn: I sensed some kind of dragon power since I got here, but it wasn't Pianista's.
Vyrn: I don't sense any bad intentions though, so I doubt it's anythin' dangerous.
Grea: Some kind of dragon power...
The dragons in the dreams she has been having night after night surface in Grea's mind.
  1. You know something, don't you?

Choose: You know something, don't you?

Grea: ...
Grea: Yeah. Actually, lately I've been having the same dream every night.
Lyria: A dream about dragons? Do you think it's...
  1. Some kind of message?
  2. Something important?

Choose: Some kind of message?

Lyria: Exactly. It's a little worrisome.
Lyria: You might not understand the dragon's words, but do you think it's trying to warn you of some kind of danger?

Choose: Something important?

Vyrn: Sounds like it. It sure doesn't sound like your regular dream.
Vyrn: And you've been havin' this dream every night, right? Maybe it's got somethin' to do with the dragon powers within you, Pianista.

Grea: Yeah... Since I started having these dreams, it seems my dragon powers have been getting stronger. And it's sort of scary...
Lyria: Do you know anything about the dragons that've been appearing in your dreams?
Grea: The red dragon in trouble... He's most likely my father—my real father.
Vyrn: Wha! Do ya think he's tryin' to ask for your help through those dreams?
Grea: I did think of that, but from what I've been told, my father died before I was born.
Grea: When my mother was still carrying me, my father apparently fought against an attacking monster and lost his life.
Grea: And my real mother got sick and died right after giving birth to me... That's what my foster parents said.
Grea: I didn't even know that my real father was a dragon until my parents explained it to me one day.
Vyrn: I see... But you call that dragon in your dream "Father" every night, right?
Vyrn: Do you think... the dragon really is your father?
Grea: I don't know... I don't know why my father, whom I've never seen or met in my life, would suddenly appear in my dreams...
Grea: I don't know what my dreams are trying to tell me, or why my dragon powers are growing like this. I don't know anything...
Lyria: Hm... This is just a thought, but do you think your dragon father could actually still be alive?
Grea: I...
Lyria: I think there must be some meaning to your dream.
Lyria: Maybe your father is trying to tell you that he's still alive out there.
Grea: ...
Lyria: I'm not sure why they would tell you that your father had already passed away if he was actually alive, but...
Grea: You're right. It's not entirely impossible... I guess.
Grea: Vyrn, you said earlier that you sensed a different dragon power inside me, right? And that it was getting weaker.
Vyrn: Y-yeah. I can still feel it.
Grea: Then the dragon in my dream must be my father...
Grea: He's somewhere out there, alive, and trying to warn me of some sort of danger.
Grea gathers the thoughts swirling in her mind and comes to a decision.
Grea: Thanks for listening, everyone. I've decided.
Grea: I'm going to try and look for my real father.
Grea: And I'm going to ask my mother to tell me the truth about my real parents.
  1. We'll give you a hand too.

Choose: We'll give you a hand too.

Lyria: That's right! If your father needs help, then we have to save him!
Vyrn: We don't know where your dad is yet, but wherever he is, we'll hop on our ship and go find him together!
Grea: Thank you... I really appreciate it!
The crew gives a reassuring nod. Encouraged by her friends, Grea smiles, tears welling up in her eyes.
And so they decide to head to Grea's hometown together in hopes of finding out more about the dragoness's real father.
