A Knight's Loyalty

Lancelot's expedition to Camlann has so far proven to be unfruitful. Returning to their camp as night falls, Lancelot recalls Siegfried's words from their audience with the king—Feendrache is host to a slew of dark secrets stemming from the kingdom's past. He hears a mysterious voice that further challenges his conviction as a knight.

By finding the holy sword Excalibur, Arthur has essentially proven that it is not merely the stuff of legends spoken about in bedtime stories around Feendrache.
Lancelot leads a unit of the Order of the White Dragons to the valley of Camlann, the very spot where the blade was discovered, for further investigation.
Lancelot: According to Vane, the blade was found around this spot.
They follow a trail exhibiting few signs of human access. It leads them out of the forest and into a vast, rocky plain.
The desolate area appears unfit for inhabitation.
Lancelot: (At first glance, it would appear that there is nothing out of the ordinary, save for the extreme rockiness.)
Lancelot: I want each of you to investigate your section, just as we went over before. If you find anything, report back to me immediately.
White Dragon: Yes, sir!
Lancelot puts his unit to work, and begins conducting his own search of the area.
Lancelot: That's odd. According to Vane's map, the stone from which the blade was pulled should be just around here...
White Dragon: There are only small rocks to be found scattered around here. Nothing that would make for a pedestal housing a blade.
White Dragon: Forgive my insolence to Sir Vane, but could it be possible that his map is off?
Lancelot: Unlikely. While it is true he is less than... stellar at navigating, his mapmaking skill is second to none.
White Dragon: I see. Please forgive me.
Lancelot: No, I cannot fault you for assuming that about him.
Lancelot: Which makes it all the more confounding we have yet to discover anything. Perhaps someone has already taken the stone...
White Dragon: The holy sword was recovered in quite the beautiful state. I can't imagine it was exposed to the wild and the elements for such a long period of time.
Lancelot: That fact has also been bothering me. No matter how good of materials one uses in their craft, they are bound to break down and weather away with time.
Lancelot: For something as conspicuous as a sword in a stone, one would think the lord of the land would have discovered it sooner.
White Dragon: The more I ponder the situation, the more mysterious the circumstances surrounding it become.
They continue their investigation, but the effort ultimately proves to be fruitless. Night soon falls.
Lancelot mulls over the situation further after setting up camp with the other members of the unit.
Lancelot: (Luckily, we found no signs that anyone from the cabal had been wandering about. I would have expected to find the stone that housed the blade, however.)
Lancelot: (I wonder... How much stock are we to put in the fairy tales that also mention a lake and caves in the vicinity of the sword's resting place?)
Lancelot: (There was certainly nothing of the sort around the spot marked on Vane's map.)
Like any child of Feendrache, Lancelot is well-versed in the tale.
For one as interested in knighthood as he, it was practically required reading.
Lancelot: (Feendrache holding the blade, and Hibergreif holding the sheath...)
Lancelot: (As far as I remember in all of the books I read as a child, not one mention of a sheath was ever made.)
Lancelot: (If Excalibur truly does require the presence of both items to function, then perhaps the bond between our kingdoms was much deeper than I thought...)
Lancelot remembers the conversation between himself, King Carl, and Siegfried.
Siegfried: As a knight of Feendrache well aware of our two kingdoms' histories, I knew deep within my heart that the fall of an ally could not be without consequence.
Lancelot: This... is the first time I am hearing of this...
Siegfried: I cannot say this with absolute certainty...
Siegfried: However, consider the matter of Sylph and the karmide, Lancelot. The very country that you had vowed to serve was hiding such disgraceful secrets.
Lancelot: It is very possible... that more such secrets remain...
Lancelot: (Siegfried had nothing more to share after that...)
Lancelot: (He is certainly not one for cheap speculation.)
Lancelot: (What could have happened fourteen years ago in Feendrache... when Hibergreif fell?)
Lancelot: ...
???: Losing faith in your kingdom, are you?
Lancelot: ...!
Who's there?
Hearing a voice from outside the confines of his tent, Lancelot swiftly grabs his twin blades.
Mysterious Voice: Cast aside your swords. I have no intention of fighting you.
Mysterious Voice: Lancelot, knight of Feendrache—I have a question for you. Will you not follow me?
With those words, the voice goes silent.
Lancelot: (Who could that have been? Whoever it was seemed to know about me...)
Lancelot: (I don't think it was anyone with hostile intentions, either. It had a calming... almost nostalgic ring.)
With blades and lantern in hand, Lancelot peers outside of his tent.
A strange light, appearing as smoke tinged of bluish-white, stretches out into the night.
Lancelot: (Could this be a trap of some kind?)
Lancelot: (What is this feeling? I'm compelled to go after that voice, though I must do so alone.)
With his heart throbbing to the point of bursting, Lancelot quietly steps outside his tent.
Lancelot: (The light fades here... and if I'm not mistaken, this is where Arthur supposedly found the sword.)
Lancelot: Wh-what is this mist?
Mysterious Voice: So you have come, Lancelot, knight of Feendrache.
Lancelot: Who are you? Spare us both the pleasantries if you would be my enemy.
Mysterious Voice: I am the protector of this land, deemed so through an ancient pact.
Lancelot: Are you one connected to the holy sword Excalibur?
Mysterious Voice: The answer to your question will soon become clear.
Mysterious Voice: If you are indeed a true knight of Feendrache, if you would give anything for her protection and preservation, then we are bound by the strings of fate.
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot: I have dedicated my all to the kingdom. I have vowed to overcome any adversity to bring Feendrache peace and prosperity.
Mysterious Voice: Prove it so.
At those words, the wind blows away the mist that had been concealing the area.
The guiding light shines once again to reveal a mysterious path extending far into the darkness.
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot stands tall, and with a resolute stride takes his first steps along the trail.

A Knight's Loyalty: Scene 2

As Lancelot continues to engage with the mysterious voice, he finds himself seeing images of the past play out before his eyes. He witnesses the actions of Siegfried on the day of former King Josef's murder, and gains a deeper appreciation of the knight's noble actions in fulfilling the king's final request. The voice asks Lancelot if he can act in the same way as his mentor.

Lancelot: What! Is this... a throne room?
After taking a few steps along with the light, Lancelot suddenly finds himself in what appears to be a throne room.
Lancelot: What is going on?
Hmm?
???: ...Majesty... Your Majesty!
Lancelot: Siegfried?
Lancelot: Th-this is...
An unfamiliar scene unfolds before Lancelot's eyes. He sees Siegfried, equipped with the armor of the Order of the Black Dragons, hunched over a body.
It belongs to the former King Josef, now gasping for breath. Siegfried cradles the king's head in his arms as a pool of blood expands at his feet.
Siegfried: What monster... Who could do this!
King Josef: Consul General Isabella... Brandishing a blade... she suddenly slashed at me...
Siegfried: Isabella? But why!
King Josef: I was questioning her... about the toxic by-product of alma... karmide... She must be seeking... to hide the truth...
Siegfried: Karmide?
King Josef: The family's doctor... Boris... he knows everything...
Lancelot: No, could this be... Am I seeing what transpired on the day of the former king's murder?
Lancelot reaches out to comfort the distressed Siegfried.
His hand passes through the knight's body, as if nothing were there.
Lancelot: (Right, as this appears to be a scene from a memory, I would not be able to affect it in any way...)
Siegfried: Gah! I cannot stop the bleeding!
King Josef: Save your strength, Siegfried... My time is limited.
Siegfried: I cannot, Your Majesty! I will do everything in my power to ensure your well-being...
Siegfried can only continue to press on the king's wound. In a motion to calm down the frenetic knight, King Josef extends his hand to caress Siegfried's cheek.
King Josef: Please, Siegfried. Enough. Listen to what I have to say.
Siegfried: ...!
The king looks at Siegfried, his eyes still burning bright with vigor.
King Josef: Siegfried... a final order... one I can only entrust to you...
Siegfried: Yes, anything for you, Your Majesty.
King Josef: A great rot is spreading about Feendrache. I would have you expunge it before the kingdom falls to ruin.
Siegfried: It will be done.
King Josef: I am sorry, Siegfried. I can only... count on you... for this...
Siegfried: Your Majesty... Your Majesty!
Lancelot: Siegfried!
The doors to the throne room open with a mighty clang. Lancelot leads a group of the Black Dragons as they rush towards the scene.
Siegfried: Lancelot... His Majesty is...
Black Dragon: It is just as Isabella relayed. Captain Siegfried has assassinated the king.
Siegfried: ...!
What did you just say?
Lancelot: (That's right. We received a report from Isabella at the time that she had seen Siegfried stab the king.)
Lancelot: (My head was blank—I couldn't think straight. I could only rush to the throne room to verify the scene for myself...)
Lancelot: Captain Siegfried... please say it isn't so. To murder our beloved king...
Black Dragon: Vice Captain Lancelot, it is plain to see. This man has committed treason of the highest degree!
Black Dragon: So, the Dragonslayer has turned kingslayer!
Siegfried: How dare—
Lancelot: Siegfried, please. Tell us what really happened here.
Lancelot: Siegfried!
Siegfried: Lancelot...
Black Dragon: Tch, we have no time for this, Vice Captain Lancelot! Let us capture this traitor at once and deliver him to Consul General Isabella!
Black Dragon: Hyaaagh!
Black Dragon: Uogh!
Siegfried draws the greatsword on his back. He strikes down the assailing knight without hesitation.
Siegfried: ...!
Siegfried adopts the poise of a dragon over King Josef's body, his sword at the ready.
His bloodshot gaze pierces through each of the knights—it alone is enough to keep them at bay.
Lancelot: Sieg... fried...
Black Dragon: Call for Vice Captain Percival! The Order of the Black Dragons must unite in capturing this fiend!
Siegfried concedes that the knights are not willing to listen to his plight. He lays King Josef's head down gently, and takes flight to make his escape.
Black Dragon: He's getting away! After him!
Lancelot: (I've always wondered why Siegfried did not try to defend himself to us.)
Lancelot: (I think I understand now, though.)
Lancelot: (He was so overcome by emotion—the grief that came from losing his beloved king, and the righteous anger he felt after learning of Isabella's treachery...)
Lancelot: I should be after him, even if it is just a shadow...
Siegfried makes his way from the throne room to the king's private quarters. Without hesitation, he utilizes a hidden escape route found in the room.
The route empties into the capital, and the knight proceeds to the home of the doctor Boris under the cover of the night.
Boris: Why, if it isn't Sir Siegfried! What can I do for you?
Siegfried: Please excuse the late-night visit. I'll cut right to the chase. The king has been murdered at the hand of Consul General Isabella.
Boris: No, what? Could she have been trying to silence him on account of his knowledge of karmide?
Siegfried: I see that you are well aware of the surrounding circumstances already. I wish to hear everything you know. Would you be so kind as to put me up for the night?
Boris: Yes, yes, of course! Please, come on in.
Boris proves to be keenly aware of alma's toxic by-product and the implications it holds among those close to the king. He kindly affords Siegfried an escape.
Siegfried: I see. There can be no doubt, then, that karmide is truly harmful to those who may come into contact with it.
Boris: Indeed, though I have not had a chance to study the substance in its purest form. My researchers and I have been investigating the trace amounts found in soil and water.
Siegfried: It must be hidden away somewhere. We must find it.
Siegfried: Leave that task to me. Once I am able to get my hands on some pure karmide, may I ask you to study its effects on the human body, Boris?
Boris: You say to leave the hard part to you... Are you not presently being hunted by every night in the kingdom? Cease the thought for a bit and rest yourself.
Siegfried: I have no time for such a luxury. My tears have all been shed—all that remains is direct action on my part.
Siegfried: This is the final order I received with His Majesty's dying breath.
Boris: Such strength...
Boris: You have convinced me. Let us expose the dangers of alma production to all the citizens of the realm.
Siegfried: Boris, you have my eternal gratitude.
The two men engage in a firm handshake.
Later that night, Siegfried gazes up at the castle from his new quarters. He speaks to no one in particular.
Siegfried: Your Majesty, it pains me so to miss your requiem.
Siegfried: Please allow this knight to fulfill his promise...
A moment of respite now at hand, the pent-up emotions begin to flow forth from the man.
Siegfried: Sniff... Ngh...
Boris: Siegfried...
Siegfried: Boris, I am sorry that you would see me like this...
Boris: Worry not. After all, he was so dearly beloved to us both.
Boris: We can both grieve, if only for just one night. I do not think he would fault us for that.
Siegfried: Indeed...
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot: (That admiration was certainly something I witnessed firsthand... King Josef was more than just the ruler of the land to Siegfried...)
Lancelot: (It is very similar to how I have looked up to Siegfried himself...)
As the two men weep and comfort each other, Lancelot can do naught but stare on.
Siegfried's quest to cleanse Feendrache of its ills begins the next day.
Lancelot witnesses the true extent of the knight's harsh, lonely plight.
Siegfried: So this is how the karmide has been handled. After being stored in this facility beneath the castle, it is then disposed of by dumping it in the Howling Valley.
Black Dragon: You! How did you get in here!
Siegfried: Oho, so Isabella's lapdogs finally make their appearance. I'm here under my king's orders. What of it?
Black Dragon: Guogh!
Siegfried: All that remains is for Boris to present the scroll with his findings to the new King Carl...
Boris's Voice: Ahhh!
Siegfried: That voice!
Boris: Ngh... You... you scum!
Isabella's Assassin: Orders from Isabella. It's nothing personal.
Isabella's Assassin: Wha!
Siegfried crashes through a window in Boris' home. His eyebrows furrow as he looks up to assess the situation.
Siegfried: (Tch... I pray I am not too late...)
Siegfried: Boris, can you hear me? Can you speak?
Boris: Th-the scroll for King Carl... Middle drawer... Here is... the key...
Siegfried: Understood.
Isabella's Assassin: I won't let you have it. Instead, why don't you watch as we raze it all to—
Isabella's Assassin: Gah!
Siegfried wastes no time in slinging the assassin out of the window.
Siegfried: I've retrieved the scroll, Boris. Let us make haste.
Boris: ...
Siegfried: ...!
Siegfried: The heat from the flames must be unbearable. We must get outside.
Lancelot: (The only ally he had left...)
Lancelot: (I must admit that I have hardly thought of the loneliness of his battle... Such strength of heart maintained until Isabella's evil schemes were exposed...)
With his sole ally now gone, Siegfried's struggle grows ever more desperate.
The newly-established Order of the White Dragons continues to give chase, leaving the knight with no choice but to spend his nights in the wild, greatsword in hand.
No force is powerful enough to dissuade him from the final duty to his king. He will not rest until Isabella is exposed and Feendrache cleansed of its sordid ways.
Mysterious Voice: You have just witnessed scenes from a most painful memory. The man you admire as a mentor gave everything to serve his kingdom.
Mysterious Voice: Answer me this. Are you able, and willing, to do the same?
Lancelot: I...
Lancelot struggles to declare his intent.

A Knight's Loyalty: Scene 3

Witnessing Siegfried's struggle initially causes Lancelot to falter in his conviction as a loyal knight of Feendrache. He soon comes to realize that he does not have to imitate Siegfried, however, and that with the support of his comrades, he can proudly stand in front as a splendid leader of the Order of the White Dragons. He gains a new set of armor and pair of swords to do battle with his past self.

Mysterious Voice: Answer me this. Are you able, and willing, to do the same?
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot: (Siegfried never ceases to amaze... To think that he went through that entire ordeal with no other soul being the wiser...)
Lancelot: (As for me... What was I even thinking at that time?)
As Lancelot ponders his response, the surrounding fog whisps about to reveal a familiar scene.
Lancelot: Thank you for your report. It would appear that our reorganization to the Order of the White Dragons has been fully realized. Have you settled in comfortably?
White Dragon: Yes, and it's all thanks to you, Captain Lancelot.
Lancelot: My efforts alone would not have allowed such a smooth transition. I have all of you to thank for your cooperation.
White Dragon: You should hear what the rest of the men are saying about you. That the new captain possesses a cool head and a clear vision for the order.
Lancelot: Is that so? I take pride in the fact that my troops are satisfied with my methods.
White Dragon: Yes! There is one more thing I would like to report.
Lancelot: What is it?
White Dragon: Mere days ago, there were sightings of a man clad in black armor and wielding a greatsword in a forest near the capital.
Lancelot: I see. Thank you for telling me. I will decide on our next course of action.
White Dragon: Yes, sir. With that, please excuse me.
White Dragon: (Speaking to the captain directly can be quite intimidating... Ever since vice captain Percival and Vane have departed the capital we've had to report to him...)
Lancelot: Siegfried... You would dare show your face around here again?
Lancelot: What could he be after? Does he have any business with us?
Lancelot: Ridiculous. Does he think I would have forgotten that face contorted in pure madness?
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot: (I had my hands full with reorganizing the order. But that was not all that was on my mind.)
Lancelot: (He was always on my mind, yet I could never bring myself to think about the situation and his motives calmly.)
Lancelot: (Though I despised and loathed him, moreover, I was afraid of him.)
Lancelot: (Rather than seeking to discover the truth, I was always looking away from it.)
Lancelot: (I couldn't hold a candle to him...)
Mysterious Voice: Feendrache is a land bearing a dark path and countless secrets.
Mysterious Voice: It would appear that you have become quite cognizant of this fact.
Mysterious Voice: Though I cannot reveal everything to you now, the truth remains waiting to be discovered.
Mysterious Voice: Answer me this. How will you face the truth? Will you remain loyal in your resolve to serve your country?
Mysterious Voice: Though you are aware of the myriad sins of the nation, why do you continue to pledge your allegiance?
Lancelot: (This interrogation pains me, though they speak no falsehood...)
Lancelot: (How can I rationalize serving such a kingdom?)
Lancelot falls to his knees. Having witnessed the struggles that his mentor had faced, he loses the will to stride ahead.
Lancelot: (My efforts would pale in comparison to Siegfried's. I am not strong enough to soldier on like he did.)
Mysterious Voice: Has it come to this? It seems I have misjudged you, Lancelot.
Mysterious Voice: Captain of the Order of the White Dragons of Feendrache? How farcical. You should depart the capital at once—
???: Hey! Lancelot!
Lancelot: That voice...
A familiar figure emerges from the fog. He begins to shout words of encouragement.
Vane: I'm not brainy enough to figure out this kind of stuff!
Vane: But I do trust you! So just follow your heart!
Vane: Even if it means being labeled as a traitor by everyone, then so be it! I'll always be your friend!
Lancelot: Vane...
Lancelot recalls the moment he was forced to confront the truth about alma and of Isabella's treachery. Vane's words echo the very same as they had then.
Percival: Need I repeat myself once more?
Percival: If you're gonna lose your cool and rush headlong into the enemy, you'll just be throwing your life away. What do you think we rescued you for?
Lancelot hears once more the words Percival used to calm him down when Feendrache teetered on the brink of destruction.
Lancelot: You're never afraid to speak your mind, Percival. An envious quality for a knight.
Siegfried: You're the captain now. Are you satisfied with ceding your position to me?
Siegfried: Were you leading the order with such feeble resolve?
Lancelot: "That's not true." My answer, at the time.
Lancelot: Ever since I accepted the position of captain of the Order of White Dragons from His Majesty, my intention has remained singular.
Lancelot: I vowed to protect this country. No matter the hardships and trials we may face, I pledged to stand before all with my head held high.
As if to further affirm his intention, Lancelot turns to face his companions standing in the mist.
He sees not only his most trusted comrades, but also the scores of people he has promised to protect.
Lancelot: Though I may not possess strength to hold a candle to Siegfried's own, I shall not falter any longer.
Lancelot: For all my friends—for all the people—who have supported me... I will stand tall and continue to move forward.
Lancelot: That is my resolve as a knight of Feendrache... As captain of the Order of the White Dragons!
Upon making his declaration, Lancelot's body is enveloped in light. His armor becomes white as snow, and the twin swords in his hands emit an icy glow.
The fog gives ways, revealing the training grounds of the knights of Feendrache.
Lancelot: Hyaaah! Hah!
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot sees his past self training alone. Approaching slowly, he can hear the young knight shouting.
Lancelot: Siegfried... Siegfried!
Lancelot: You're not thinking straight. Cool your head and reevaluate the situation.
Lancelot: I will never become like him...
Lancelot: Such nonsense... You will never truly throw away your admiration for Siegfried.
Lancelot: Then I should become just like him!
Lancelot: No, that is not the way. You are Lancelot, not Siegfried.
Lancelot: I will show you! The path that a true knight of Feendrache must tread!
Lancelot: Hyaaah!
Lancelot: Come at me! My triumph over you shall stand testament to my loyalty!

A Knight's Loyalty: Scene 4

After Lancelot defeats his past self, the mysterious voice allows him to keep the new armor and swords. He reports the happening to King Carl, who informs him that the mysterious voice he encountered may have belonged to an ancient fairy of Feendrache. Lancelot informs Siegfried of his newfound resolve, much to the mentor's joy.

Lancelot: Haaa!
Lancelot: ...
Lancelot: Pant, pant...
Mysterious Voice: Well done. You tread a righteous path, and have conquered your past weaknesses, Lancelot.
Lancelot: Would it not have taken until this moment. I have my answer.
Lancelot: Though I may implore the aid of my comrades, I will not view it as a crutch. It will serve as the encouragement I need to improve myself further.
Lancelot: That is what I can do as a knight of Feendrache.
Mysterious Voice: A fine answer. If you can recognize your allies' abilities as an extension of your own power, there is scant anything you shall not be able to overcome.
Mysterious Voice: I honor you as a true knight of Feendrache, and offer unto you ownership of the armor and weapons you stand with now.
Lancelot: You have my thanks.
Mysterious Voice: No matter what you may discover, do not forget that resolve.
Mysterious Voice: I trust the Feendrache lies within the hands of one who is truly just.
Lancelot: The fog has lifted...
The mysterious fog that had played host to all manner of visions dissipates, revealing the rocky terrain of Camlann once more.
Lancelot is clad in snow-white armor; he grasps icy twin swords in either hand. Filled with a radiant and renewed sense of purpose, he looks up to the night sky.
Upon returning to the capital, Lancelot meets with King Carl to share his findings.
King Carl: To think such a thing would occur in Camlann! I am relieved that you encountered no malicious intent.
Siegfried: It seems you went through quite the ordeal. That armor and those swords must be the proof of your accomplishment.
Lancelot: I believe the very same. I felt no hostility from the voice, however I am unable to say with any certainty with whom or what I was speaking to.
King Carl: Oho... then perhaps it was one of the fairies who are said to reside across the realm.
Lancelot: A fairy?
King Carl: It is a legend that has been passed down in the royal family for generations. They have served as guardians to this land for the past five hundred years.
King Carl: Since the end of The War and the rule of the Astrals, they are said to have lent their assistance toward the founding of the kingdom.
Lancelot: How fascinating... This is my first time hearing of such. It is true that the voice did not seem to be that of a mortal.
King Carl: Lancelot, you are familiar with the tale of primal beast Sylph, yes? That she was created by an Astral after the death of his skydweller lover?
King Carl: According to the same legends, the Astrals bequeathed unto the realm fairies possessive of great powers.
King Carl: I have been wondering if perhaps the new equipment you now wield, as well as the holy sword Excalibur could in fact be of Astral origin.
Lancelot: That certainly seems plausible.
Lancelot shifts his gaze to the twin blades.
Lancelot: If that is indeed the case, then I have come to possess some truly awesome power.
Lancelot: To think that Feendrache would be considered so important in the eyes of the Astrals that they would go to such lengths to protect it.
King Carl: It is quite amazing, isn't it? The people of Feendrache—our land and culture in all of its beauty... This is truly a country to be proud of.
Lancelot: Yes, it is.
Lancelot: I cannot shake the feeling, however, that soon we may be facing crises ever more severe.
Lancelot: Our country may be in great peril if the fairies would reawaken after hiding dormant for so long.
King Carl: Indeed, and so we cannot afford to rest on our laurels.
Siegfried: Perhaps the appearance of the holy sword is a sign of greater things to come.
Lancelot: I have steeled myself in facing any such challenge head on. That is my duty as a knight of Feendrache.
A great sense of courage wells up inside the knight as he thinks once again about the ordeal in Camlann.
Lancelot stands directly in front of Siegfried, who had remained ever at the king's side.
Lancelot: Siegfried, I was still a knight-in-training when I encountered you with King Josef.
Siegfried: So you were.
Lancelot: I apologize once more for failing to grasp at the truth at that time.
Lancelot: Though you were stricken with grief after the death of His Majesty King Josef, you never wavered in your sense of duty. Your devotion is nothing short of commendable.
Lancelot: If I were in your boots at the time, I do not think I would have persevered in such a lonely fight. It is an incredible honor to have had a mentor such as you, Siegfried.
Siegfried: ...
Siegfried: I simply chose to fight alone. There were other ways I could have gone about exposing Isabella at that time.
Siegfried: It was a choice that caused a great deal of chaos both within the country and within the order, and that is something I regret.
Siegfried: I deemed it to be the only way for me to go about His Majesty's final mission, but if asked if I think it was the best way, I can only shake my head.
Lancelot: Oh, really?
Siegfried: My mind often wanders back to that day. I have even thought about what I would have done if it was you, Lancelot, who was framed for King Josef's murder.
Siegfried: Even then, I recognized your ability to win people over to your way of thinking; to have them lend you their aid.
Siegfried: Perhaps if it was you, both the evils of karmide and the machinations of Isabella would have been revealed much sooner.
Lancelot: I'm not sure that would...
Siegfried: It was just a thought.
Siegfried: In truth, Lancelot, even after that incident, the fact that you were still able to look up to me as a mentor—I took great solace in that.
Siegfried: However, I would not have you try to be me. You are not me.
Lancelot: Yes, I recognize that even if we share in the same ideals, we are very different people.
Siegfried: Though I knew how to swing a sword from the day I joined the order, I struggled with making meaningful connections with my fellow knights.
Siegfried: You may have learned the way of the blade from me, but the one thing I could never claim to have given you is your ability to win the hearts of your comrades.
Siegfried: Knights should not concern themselves primarily in matters of combat. Instead, it is important to focus on how you can protect the country in your own way.
Lancelot: Of course.
Lancelot: Siegfried, though it may sound a tad impertinent, I want to say one more thing.
Siegfried: By all means.
Lancelot: I have decided to become a leader who can rely on the strength of my comrades.
Lancelot: And that includes you, Siegfried.
Lancelot: I hope that not only will I be able to rely on your aid, but that we can lead the kingdom to even greater heights by doing so.
Siegfried: ...!
Siegfried: Hehe... That is quite the responsibility you would place on my shoulders.
Lancelot: Was that too much to assume after all?
Siegfried: No. In truth, I am glad that you have come to realize your true potential as a leader. I would be honored to lend my hand in any way.
Siegfried: (At times I worried you could not tell left from right, Lancelot. Just look at how much you have grown.)
Siegfried: I'm expecting great things of you, Lancelot.
Lancelot: I won't let you down!
Many truths remain concealed in Feendrache's past.
Lancelot is not lacking in allies who are more than willing to help him uncover even the darkest of secrets.
