A New Insight

(Captain), Stan, and the crew find Michael observing others in order to improve her acting ability and agree to lend their insight into what the people might be thinking. Later, Stan and (Captain) invite her to join the crew, pointing out that the Grandcypher is a perfect place for people-watching.

(Captain) and the crew have completed a request to transport cargo in a certain town.
On their way back to the port, Stan—who had been accompanying them on their mission—stops in his tracks.
Stan: Hey, (Captain). Isn't that Michael over there?
Michael: ...
Lyria: Oh, you're right! She looks so intense... I wonder if something happened?
Vyrn: Well, she is movin' kinda sneakily. Maybe she's on the lookout after spottin' a shady character.
Stan: Someone shady enough to worry a primarch? That sounds pretty bad.
Stan: Let's go ask her if we can help out, (Captain)!
Michael: Hm? This presence...
Lyria: Michael!
Michael: Ah, I thought I sensed your crew, (Captain). What a coincidence encountering you here.
Michael: And you are joined by the dragon-blooded youth I met previously. Is the young lady you were with in good health?
Stan: Yeah, Aliza's just fine. Glad to see you're doing well too, but, uh...
Vyrn: You're a lot more chill than we thought you'd be.
Vyrn: Weren't you on the lookout for somebody dangerous?
Michael: What? Is there some sort of crisis threatening this town?
Michael: I don't sense any such sinister auras at present...
Lyria: Oh, no, that's not it! You were staring at the street with such a serious look on your face, we just assumed...
Stan: We thought there might be trouble, so we came to help.
Michael: Ah, I see. It seems I have caused you unnecessary worry.
Michael: Truth be told, I was merely observing the townspeople. I thought it might serve as a useful reference for my performance.
Lyria: Observing them?
Vyrn: Oh yeah, you're studyin' to become an actor, right?
Vyrn: But can you really learn anything starin' at a bunch of strangers?
Michael: Of course. In order to improve one's acting ability, it is essential to observe the daily lives of others.
Michael: I am also attempting to form an even deeper understanding by imagining what they might be thinking.
Stan: Wow, this whole acting thing sounds like hard work...
Stan: (Maybe the secret to Michael's strength is that she values this kind of steady effort.)
Michael: Do you all happen to have time now?
Michael: Ashamed though I am to admit it, I worry that my conjectures may be in error. If you would be willing, I could use your assistance.
Vyrn: Sure thing! Sounds like fun!
Lyria: Yeah! Let's all work on our acting together!
Michael: Then allow me to draw your attention to our first scene—that store.
Customers: Chatter, chatter...
Michael: This thoroughfare features a number of dining establishments that are fairly similar in nature.
Michael: However, only one has a large crowd of customers lined up outside.
Michael: Could it be that the restaurant owner is pulling strings behind the scenes, and this is a conspiracy involving the entire community?
Stan: No, it's definitely not anything that disturbing!
Lyria: When we passed by earlier, I heard someone mention a menu item that was limited to a hundred servings per day.
Lyria: Do you think maybe everyone's lined up to try it?
Michael: What? That establishment seeks to attract customers, yet they choose to reduce the amount of food they prepare?
Stan: The key word is "limited." Hearing that makes you feel like you've got to try it right away, or you'll miss out.
Stan: So people rush to the restaurant, and business actually ends up booming. That's probably what's going on.
Michael: I see... That is quite profound...
Michael: ...!
Look, (Captain)!
Michael: It appears those two women are fighting over that man.
Michael: Recently I attended a tragic play in which such a battle unfolded on stage. The situations are clearly one and the same.
Vyrn: You think? The mood doesn't seem that tense to me. And besides...
Vyrn: One of them's an old lady, y'know? They look more like family, if you ask me.
Michael: True... Perhaps my pursuit of drama has caused me to view this scene from an incorrect angle.
Lyria: But maybe age has nothing to do with who you love!
Stan: If they really were together, that guy would probably be depressed if the old lady died before him...
Michael: And the woman with them would be caught between feeling pity for the man for his loss and joy at the prospect of having him all to herself...
Michael: It would be a challenging role to perform, but if I could apply the general concepts...
Michael: This has been a productive use of time. I thank you for your cooperation.
Stan: Yeah, it was a lot more exciting than I expected. Acting's pretty deep, huh!
Michael: Well, it would probably be wise for me to take my leave. Any longer, and I may be mistaken for some sort of prowler.
Vyrn: Has that happened before? Don't tell me you were reported and everything...
Michael: It was truly a blunder.
As Michael turns to leave the alleyway, Stan calls out to her.
Stan: Hey, Michael! Could you wait just a sec?
Stan: I was thinking... Isn't it tough trying to observe people while hiding out in back alleys like this?
Stan: If you just watch them from the sidelines, you can never know what's really going through their minds...
Michael: That is a fair point. My assumptions today were indeed off the mark.
Michael: Unfortunately, my options are limited. I cannot simply march over and strike up a conversation...
Stan: About that... I happen to know of a better place for people-watching.
Stan: Don't you, (Captain)?
Understanding the hidden meaning behind Stan's words, the captain nods, smiling.
  1. Join us on the Grandcypher.
  2. You can meet all kinds of people with us.

Choose: Join us on the Grandcypher.

Michael: The Grandcypher? In other words, you're inviting me to join your crew?
Stan: Talking with lots of different people on the ship feels like it really expands my worldview.
Stan: So why don't you try listening to stories from everyone in the crew and see what happens?
Michael: I see... Not only are there mortals of all ages traveling with you, but primal beasts, animals, and the like as well.
Michael: And knowing (Captain), the crew is sure to be a magnificent assembly of gallant warriors.
Michael: Even setting aside my desire to study acting, I would relish the opportunity to hear such a rich variety of tales.

Choose: You can meet all kinds of people with us.

Michael: On the Grandcypher, you mean? Indeed, there are mortals from all walks of life in your crew, as well as even primal beasts.
Michael: I see... Yes, that might be an ideal place for observing others...
Lyria: And you might learn something by talking to people from different islands while out on missions too!
Michael: True. I have heard that the way skydwellers live can vary greatly between countries and islands.
Michael: It may be important to take note of such distinctions in order to make my performance more convincing.

Michael: Hmm, yes...
After pondering for a moment, Michael turns to stare at (Captain) as though she has reached a decision.
Michael: (Captain). Your invitation earlier was not in jest, correct?
Michael: Despite my lack of experience as a skyfarer... would you still have me aboard?
Lyria: Hehe, you're more than welcome! Right, (Captain)?
Michael: In that case... I look forward to our travels together.
Vyrn: Same here! As soon as we get back to the ship, we'll give you the grand tour!
Michael: That would be most appreciated. I should also make sure to greet the other crew members.
Michael: And what would you all say to a sparring match afterward?
Stan: Ooh, really? It'd be great if you could practice with us!
Stan: I want to work just as hard as you are to become even stronger!
Michael: Heh... You truly are a fine fellow.
Saying this, Michael extends her hand to (Captain) and Stan in turn.
They each share a firm handshake, excited to see what the future will hold.
