What Makes a Skyfarer

The Grandcypher looks tidier than ever thanks to Minami's efforts. While thankful, the crew suggests she save her strength before battle. When they arrive at the town, Minami turns out to be an extremely quick learner in battle.

(Captain) and company receive a mission to hunt monsters threatening a town.
During the flight there, (Captain) looks for the crew members to hold a strategic meeting but notices something odd.
Vyrn: Huh? Does it seem strangely tidy around here to anyone else?
Lyria: Um... Maybe someone cleaned up for us.
While they stand around puzzled, someone suddenly appears from the shadows.
Minami: Oh, (Captain). And Vyrn and Lyria as well. How's it going?
Vyrn: Hey, Minami. Were you seriously cleaning even the little nooks and crannies?
Minami: Guilty as charged! Everyone uses this room, so I thought it'd be worth tidying it up a bit.
Vyrn: Man, not even the other crew members are usually this thorough.
Minami: Hehe. Well, just thinking about doing something for you guys was enough to motivate me!
Minami: If there's ever anything else I can help with, just let me know, (Captain)-san!
Minami: I've even started learning how to keep your adventuring tools, swords, and guns in top working condition!
Vyrn: Haha! You really are different. I can't tell whether you have a habit of sticking your nose into everything or just like trying out new things.
Minami: Well, I don't think there's any such thing as a pointless experience. Besides, there's plenty here to try that I couldn't back home.
Minami: Thanks to everyone, I'm learning so much. Katalina's been showing me how to care for a sword, Rackam's been teaching me how to repair the airship...
Minami: Being able to try my hand at so many new things is just a blast.
Vyrn: Yeah, but don't forget that our next mission involves monster hunting. Try not to wear yourself out before we get to the main event!
Minami: Hehe. You got it! I can't wait to help with the mission!
(Captain) and company eventually reach the target destination and ask the client for more information.
The client wants them to drive off the monsters showing up near the town, but it turns out to be easier said than done.
Vyrn: Minami! You take care of that one!
Monster: Groar!
Minami: ...!
Monster: Grrr!
Minami: Ugh!
Minami blocks the monster's attack with her spear, but the handle gets stuck in the creature's mouth, preventing her from moving.
Minami: (I need to drive this thing back! But how?)
Vyrn: Uh-oh! (Captain)! Minami's in trouble!
Before Vyrn can even finish speaking, (Captain) dashes up to Minami.
Monster: Grargh!
Minami: Th-thank you so much, (Captain)-san.
Vyrn: Phew... Looks like things have calmed down for the moment. You okay, Minami?
Minami: Yeah, but I'm sorry. I'm not really used to fighting, and this spear's pretty hard to handle.
Vyrn: No worries! Everyone struggles at first!
Minami: That's nice to hear and all, but I really want to do more for the team. You guys have any tips?
Vyrn: Hmm... You're good with the spear, right, (Captain)? Got any advice for her?
  1. There's more to spears than just poking stuff.
  2. Don't be afraid to hurl yourself at your foes.

Choose: There's more to spears than just poking stuff.

Minami: I see... So what else can I do with it?
(Captain) borrows Minami's spear and shows her how to sweep it sideways.
Next, (Captain) pretends a nearby tree is a monster and leaps to the left and right while unleashing several rapid strikes.
Minami: Oh, I think I get it. So there's really no need to focus just on stabbing, huh.
(Captain) returns the spear to Minami and instructs her to try out the moves herself.
Minami: Like this?
Hyah! Hii-yah! Hyaaaah!
Vyrn: Whoa... You're moving like a completely different person.
Minami: Well, all I did was imitate (Captain) and try swinging it like a lacrosse stick. Hehe.
Go to "Continue 1"

Choose: Don't be afraid to hurl yourself at your foes.

Minami: Hurl myself?
Vyrn: (Captain) has a point. It seems like you keep waiting for the enemies to come to you.
Vyrn: You're pretty nimble on your feet though. It'd be a waste not to take advantage of that speed.
Minami: Speed, huh? All right... Care to be my training dummy for a second, (Captain)-san?
(Captain) agrees and stands there motionless, waiting for Minami's attack.
Minami: Here I come... Ready?
Minami: One... Two... Hiiyaaah!
After taking a couple steps back, Minami lunges forward with blinding speed and collides with (Captain)'s chest.
Her shoulder charge knocks (Captain) down, and she presses the flat of her spear against the captain's forehead.
Vyrn: Wow! It sure didn't take you long to get the hang of that!
Minami: Hehe. (Captain)-san's advice reminded me of a lacrosse tackle, so that's what I tried.

Continue 1

Vyrn: This lacrosse thing you keep mentioning seems like a pretty powerful set of moves!
Minami: Hehe... Well, lacrosse moves aren't actually intended for fighting.
Vyrn: It's not like that matters! Anything that can be used to defeat monsters is good enough.
Vyrn: I think you should just fight in whatever way is most comfortable for you.
(Captain) nods at Vyrn's words.
Minami: That makes sense... Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll use it to help the townsperson!

What Makes a Skyfarer: Scene 2

As the crew prepares to head out for a cargo pickup mission, a shopkeeper vents his frustration. Minami learns that he made a few mistakes in his account book and offers to help him clear up the mess; meanwhile the crew proceeds with the mission.

Monster: Groar!
Minami: Okay, here goes nothing...
Minami: (This is my chance to step back and then lunge in!)
Minami: Hii-yaaah!
Minami feints, hurls herself at the monster, and overwhelms it with a swing too fast to see.
Monster: Grrr!
With the last monster repelled, the mission is complete.
Vyrn: That was awesome! I can't believe how fast you picked up those combat skills!
Minami: Oh, this is nothing... I still have a long ways to go to catch up with (Captain)-san.
Minami: I'll keep practicing so I can help out even more next time!
Vyrn: Man, you're such an optimist! I guess that's what makes you so reliable though!
After that Minami goes on to complete several more missions with the crew. Then one day...
Minami: So you need help with your shop?
Shopkeeper: I do. I'm hoping you guys could pick up some vegetables for me. The supplier's island is somewhat far away though. Think you can handle it?
Vyrn: You bet! A bit of distance is nothing to us—the Grandcypher will get us there in no time!
Shopkeeper: Glad to hear it. There was a problem with the order, so I can't go get them myself... Nor can I afford any delays...
After watching the shopkeeper return to the shop, (Captain) and company head to the docks to depart.
Minami: So you guys transport vegetables in addition to fighting?
Minami: Skyfarers really handle a lot of jobs, huh? You're true jacks-of-all-trades.
Vyrn: Well, I'm not sure that I'd go that far, but we'll take on just about any kind of mission!
Minami: Putting your all into all sorts of jobs... Being a skyfarer sounds like a great way to experience new things!
Minami: All right! Let's get those vegetables!
(Captain) and company watch over Minami as she balls up her fists.
Their spirits are in turn lifted by her optimism and go-getter attitude.
They start heading for the docks, but something stops them.
Shopkeeper's Voice: Aahh!
Minami: Wasn't that the shopkeeper?
Minami: Something could have happened! We'd better hurry!
Shopkeeper: Oh... This is awful!
Vyrn: Are you okay? Don't tell me thugs broke in here and—
Shopkeeper: No, nothing like that. The order mistake I mentioned earlier has made it impossible to balance my books.
Shopkeeper: Ugh... I can't even tell what I was thinking when I wrote this! I can't make sense of any of it!
There are tears in the shopkeeper's eyes as he cradles his head in his hands. Minami just can't let that go.
Minami: Um... Think I could take a look at that?
Shopkeeper: Sure, but not even I can tell what I was thinking—and I wrote it. It's like darkness itself in account-book form...
Minami: Were you drinking or something?
Hmm...
Minami: You know, it looks to me like you've written this item down twice.
Shopkeeper: Hm? Wait a second... Well whaddya know, you're absolutely right!
Minami: And the numbers right here... It seems like either the prices or quantities are wrong.
Shopkeeper: Oh! Good catch!
Minami: Fixing this whole book will probably be tough, but let's just take it one step at a time. Everything should be fine!
Shopkeeper: Thank you. I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully it will be enough to pierce the darkness of this account book.
Minami: Um... (Captain)-san, do you think it'd be okay if I stay here and help out with this?
Vyrn: I knew you'd say that. It's totally okay, right, (Captain)?
Vyrn: We'll take care of the pickup, so you go ahead and help the shopkeeper out!
  1. Yeah, go for it, Minami.

Choose: Yeah, go for it, Minami.

Minami: I will! And thank you, (Captain)-san!
Vyrn: All right, let's go get those vegetables then.
(Captain) and the others leave Minami and the town behind them without any further delay.

What Makes a Skyfarer: Scene 3

The crew returns to find that Minami has finished correcting the account book. Impressed with her willingness to challenge all sorts of things, (Captain) agrees to help her achieve her dream as an idol in this world—the one thing she truly wants to do.

Around the time Minami finishes correcting the account book, (Captain) and the others return to the shop, dragging a vegetable-loaded cart behind them.
Shopkeeper: Oh! Oh! Thank you so much!
Minami: Hehe. I'm glad we got that straightened out. Looks like everything is fine now!
Vyrn: Yep! We got our job done too, mister!
Shopkeeper: Thank you. You all have been such a big help. With everything...
Shopkeeper: Sigh... I wonder just how many days it would have taken me to correct that account book on my own.
Minami: I'm just glad I could help. Still, I couldn't have done it without you!
(Captain) and company receive their reward from the grateful shopkeeper and leave the shop behind.
They're once again astonished by Minami's many talents.
Vyrn: Man, is there nothing you can't do, Minami? You're quick at math, and even monster hunting is no problem for you anymore.
Minami: Hehe. Good thing I practiced lacrosse and studied spreadsheets among other things.
Vyrn: So those were the lacrosse moves you were talking about before, yeah? What are spreadsheets though? Doesn't ring a bell.
Minami: Ah, right... I guess you guys don't have either in this world, huh?
Minami explains lacrosse and spreadsheets to the crew.
Vyrn: Interesting. So you're into both studying and sports.
Vyrn: But doesn't it tire you out doing so much all the time?
Minami: Yeah, I suppose it does now and then.
Minami: But I don't want to give up on any of my options... I want to try as many things as I can.
Vyrn: Hehe! With as much as you already do, it's amazing that you still wanna try more!
Minami: Really? I actually think it's you guys who are the amazing ones. Your job requires you to do so much...
Minami: I'm hoping that if I try hard enough, I'll be able to handle all the duties of a skyfarer eventually.
Vyrn: I see. You know, you mentioned before that you're trying to figure out what you want to do...
Vyrn: But based on how actively you try new things, I think you'll figure that out in a hurry.
Minami: Hehe. I sure hope so. It'd be great if I could keep taking on new challenges.
(Captain) suddenly remembers what Minami said about exploring her potential and has an idea.
Vyrn: Huh? What's up, (Captain)? You got something to say to Minami?
  1. Is there a job you'd like to try right now?

Choose: Is there a job you'd like to try right now?

Minami: Oh? Do you really want to hear it?
Minami: Well, I guess all I'd like is for others to enjoy watching me sing and dance. Hehe. I realize it's a lot to ask.
Vyrn: Hehe! Sounds great to me! It wouldn't be right of us to have an idol like you do nothing but skyfarer work anyway!
Vyrn: How about we help you find some work you can do as an idol? We'd be happy to help with that, right, (Captain)?
Minami: You'd really do that for me? Oh, thank you! I'd give anything to be able to stand onstage again.
Minami: Nothing would make me happier than using what I learned with Producer-san to bring the people of this world joy.
Minami's smile shines brighter than ever.
With their promise made, (Captain) and Minami leave the island behind them.
Minami's many experiences as a skyfarer so far have surely already affected her songs.
