Mother's Reasons

Karla reveals that while keeping Andras sealed, she spent much time learning spiritual unison to try and defeat the evil spirit for good. She begins training her daughter to use the spell, who will be able to make far better use of it via her link with the celestial wind spirit.

After a long and tumultuous journey, Petra is finally reunited with her mother, Karla.
Finding a moment of safety, the crew exchange notes with Karla about the events that led them to Omnia Forest.
Karla: So you encountered Andras in Montbix, then.
Karla: But if you used your own strength to defeat Andras's host, and not the power of the celestial wind spirit, then that would mean...
Elmott: We were lucky there was a hero in Montbix that day.
Karla: I see.
Karla appears to pick up on what Elmott is gravely implying. She lowers her head, as if remembering others that have fallen.
Petra: Um, Mother... Could you tell us more about what happened here?
Petra: About Andras, and what you've been doing in the forest?
Karla: After searching far and wide, I finally found the original Andras dwelling in that cave.
Karla: But I wasn't strong enough to defeat it. I only had the power to temporarily seal it away.
Karla: I used my staff to transfix the seal, and since then I've been living in this forest, training to find a way to defeat Andras completely.
Karla: Earlier today I sensed that my seal was failing, so I rushed to the cave.
Karla: Imagine my surprise to find you there, Petra.
Petra: ...
Karla: Now to tell you about Andras. How much do you know already?
Elmott: We know that it takes the form of black mist, and can only be fully defeated by spirits.
Petra: And that the versions of Andras that have appeared throughout the world are just shadows of the original.
Petra: We read it in your journal—the shadows will continue to spawn indefinitely unless the original is defeated.
Karla: Yes—a task that I could not accomplish.
Karla: Sealing it away was my only option. But it's clear that it'll be free before long.
Karla: Andras is close to fully understanding how the seal works.
It begins to dawn on everyone exactly how dire the situation really is.
Expressions of concern and frustration line their faces.
Wind Spirit: Tell me, Karla. Do you know why Andras is targeting powerful spirits? What is its ultimate goal?
Karla: Andras's objective is simple: to consume powerful spirits in order to become even more formidable.
Karla: It sent its shadows out into the world to collect these high-level targets.
Petra: Which is why one shadow came for the celestial wind spirit at the village of the wind shamans...
Elmott: And another came for the celestial earth spirit at Montbix.
Karla: The villagers who built a statue of me also spoke of a mighty spirit in their region, though it may not be as strong as a celestial one.
Vyrn: So if we don't beat Andras soon, it'll collect more spirits and become even stronger than it is now?
The mood becomes somber as the crew can't help but imagine the worst.
Karla: We must defeat the original before that happens.
Petra: But, Mother, if a shaman of your caliber couldn't do it, then how can we?
Karla: There is a way—a method I devised while training in the forest.
Petra: Oh! Then...
Karla: But it can only be done by someone who has made a pact with a celestial wind spirit—by you, Petra.
Petra: Me? But, Mother, you're much more—
Karla: Listen to me, Petra. There's a limit to my abilities.
Karla: My magic draws power from many spirits at once.
Karla: These spirits are countless in number, but individually, they are not very strong.
Karla: In order to defeat Andras, it's not numbers we need, but a single concentrated point of power. A spirit of the highest order.
Elmott: In other words, we need a celestial spirit.
Karla nods in affirmation.
Karla: This new technique I created is called spiritual unison. It allows you to utilize a spirit's power beyond its full potential.
Karla: To do this, the caster's soul and will must be aligned with the spirit's.
Karla: Even if I were to achieve spiritual unison with one of my own spirits, it would not be enough to defeat Andras.
Karla: But you can do it, Petra.
Karla: You and the celestial wind spirit you've made a pact with.
Karla gazes intently towards Petra and the wind spirit, but Petra averts her eyes.
Petra: No... I can't. I struggle to draw out the wind spirit's power as it is.
Petra: And besides, I was only able to form a pact with him thanks to the green crystal and your power, Mother.
Karla: It's true that I infused the green crystal with some of my magic as a safeguard.
Karla: But I did that in case the celestial wind spirit needed to be resealed, not so someone could make a pact with it.
Petra: But then, how did I—
Karla: The truth is, it's impossible for a regular wind shaman to be a pact bearer for a celestial wind spirit.
Karla: Their power is too great for the average practitioner to bear.
Karla: But you did it, Petra. While I can only receive their blessing, you directly formed a pact with an actual celestial spirit.
Karla: That is something even I couldn't do.
Petra: Not even with your power?
Karla: Yes. That's why I believe you can defeat Andras. In fact, you're the only one who can.
Petra: I'm the only one...
Wind Spirit: I doubt that. You can hardly manage the amount of power that I lend you now, Petra.
Wind Spirit: If you were to try and amplify my power beyond its limits, it may well kill you.
Petra: That's...
Unable to retort, Petra frowns somberly.
Karla: It's not as if I want to put Petra in harm's way, celestial wind spirit.
Karla: That's why I'm going to train her. I'm going to teach her everything I know about being a wind shaman.
Karla: And you should know better. I can tell that you can see the potential she holds.
Wind Spirit: ...
Karla: What do you think, Petra? It's your decision.
Petra: I...
Petra closes her eyes, giving serious thought to Karla's proposal.
She looks deep within and asks herself what she truly wants to do.
Gallivan: I believe you're aware that there's only one method left to defeat Andras.
Elmott: No. Don't be ridiculous... We're not about to let anyone sacrifice themselves.
Gallivan: At the moment, I'm nothing but a moving corpse fueled by Andras's power.
Gallivan: Life will not return to me. If Andras disappears, I won't be able to move anymore.
Gallivan: If you can show even a bit of compassion for me... then cremate me in a lavish fire.
Petra: I don't want to see Andras hurt anybody ever again.
Petra: Moreover, I'm a wind shaman.
Petra: It's my duty to make peace with spirits, to speak to them on behalf of mortal people...
Petra: And to use my power to help both worlds.
Petra: Andras is a threat to both man and spirit. I can't sit back and watch as it harm others.
Petra: If defeating it is something I can do... If I can use my power to save everyone... Then I'm willing to try.
Karla: Okay.
Petra: So, um... wind spirit. You might not want to, but I'd like you to try too.
Petra: We can't let Andras act freely.
Petra: Not to mention the fact that you two are mortal enemies. So please, help me.
In an unprecedented act, Petra bows her head and makes a sincere plea to the wind spirit.
The spirit ponders for a short while, then nods reluctantly.
Wind Spirit: Hmph, very well. You are correct—we cannot allow Andras to do as it likes.
Wind Spirit: But I will help you only until Andras is defeated.
Wind Spirit: If you wish to use my power afterwards, you must prove yourself to me.
Wind Spirit: You must prove that you are worthy to be my pact bearer.
Petra: I understand.
Karla: The seal I created is only temporary. It won't be long till Andras is free again.
Karla: You'll have to learn everything I have to teach you before that time.
Petra: Okay!
  1. We'll help any way we can!

Choose: We'll help any way we can!

Petra: Thank you, (Captain).
Karla: It's not going to be easy, Petra. But I believe in you.
Feeling bolstered by Karla's encouragement, Petra prepares for her training, determined to succeed.

Mother's Reasons: Scene 2

An outpouring of emotions allows mother and daughter to bond over training. Karla reveals she left Petra behind a long time ago in order to keep her safe and exact revenge on Andras.

Under Karla's guidance, Petra trains hard in order to achieve spiritual unison—the only means by which Andras can be fully defeated.
Karla: Spirits possess a level of power that we mortals can't even begin to imagine. Celestial spirits, even more so.
Karla: That's why you cannot force them to obey you. In order to draw out their power, you must understand and empathize with the spirit, becoming one with them in the process.
Karla: That is the key to spiritual unison. There's little time left, so I'll teach you the rest as we go.
Petra: Got it.
Okay then...
Petra takes a deep breath, closes her eyes, and brandishes her staff.
Petra: Here I go.
Spiritual Unison...
She concentrates. The air swirls around the shaman, and her body begins to give off a green glow.
Petra: ...?
Ngh!
Without warning, Petra cries out in pain. The nearby air turns into buffeting wind, violently blowing away everything in the vicinity.
Karla: Petra!
Wind Spirit: She can't hear you. Not that it matters—she'll tire herself out soon enough.
As if on cue, Petra collapses to the ground.
Wind Spirit: Hmph, you're going to have to try a lot harder if you hope to get anywhere with this.
Petra: Rgh! I'm not done yet! Surely on my next try...
Standing back up with her staff as support, the wind shaman focuses once more.
Hours pass. Petra's efforts to acquire the power of spiritual unison have continued without pause.
Petra: Huff... Huff... Again...
Refusing to give up, Petra makes yet another attempt.
Having reached her physical and spiritual limits, however, she instead slowly collapses to the ground.
Karla rushes over to prop her up.
Petra: Mng... Where am I...
Karla: Ah, you're awake.
Petra: Mother?
Petra is puzzled to find herself lying down with a warm sensation beneath her head.
Karla: Haha, what a blessed mother I am to have you sleeping on my lap.
Petra: No wonder it's so warm...
Karla gazes lovingly at Petra while stroking her head, a tinge of loneliness in the mother's expression.
Realizing the current situation, Petra's cheeks flush red as she bolts upward.
Petra: ...!
Karla: Had enough rest already? I wouldn't mind you lying down a bit longer.
Petra: I-it's okay. I'm not a child anymore after all.
Karla: All right then...
Petra: ...
Karla: Not sure what to talk about?
Petra: To be completely honest, yes. I do believe that you're truly my mother.
Petra: But... this is my first time meeting you.
Karla: Ah, that's right... This would be your first time.
A forlorn look crosses Karla's face.
Petra: Can I ask you a question?
Petra: You clearly seem to care about me, so then why did you leave me behind in that village?
Karla: ...
Petra: The elder did give me a reason, but I'd rather hear it directly from your lips, Mother.
Petra: I want to know what was going through your mind at the time...
Eyes fixed on her mother, Petra lets loose the negative emotions that she's kept buried inside for her whole life.
Karla: I'm sorry.
Petra: ...!
It's too late for an apology!
Petra: Do you have any idea how hard it was for me? How lonely I felt growing up!
Petra: Everyone in the village was so kind to me... They treated me like family.
Petra: The difference was they all had their own real families, while I had no one...
Petra: The better they treated me, the more I felt a kind of invisible barrier between us...
Petra: Still, I smiled as best as I could to repay their kindness.
Petra: Can you even imagine what it was like for me!
Karla: ...
Petra: Mother, I'm not trying to lay blame on you...
Petra: I wish I could be happier about meeting you, but I just can't help it...
Petra: My whole life, I told myself, "If only Mother were there for me..."
Petra: And that maybe I'm just meant to be alone...
Tears stream down her cheeks to her tightly clenched hands.
Karla looks to the skies above, as if turning away from her daughter's sadness.
Karla: I left you in that village because I believed you would be happier there.
Karla: Petra, there was no way I could overlook Andras's misdeeds... I had to defeat it no matter what.
Karla: For the sake of my fallen comrades as well...
Petra: Huh? What do you mean?
Karla: Did you know that I was the wind shaman of a certain crew at the time?
Petra: Yes, the elder mentioned it.
Karla: Because we had to make the difficult decision of sacrificing one of our members in order to defeat Andras, the crew ended up disbanding.
Petra: ...!
That's the same method we used in Montbix!
Karla: I remember all too well the incredible regret that plagued us...
Petra: So basically... you left me for the sake of revenge against Andras?
Karla: That's one reason. The other reason was to keep you out of harm's way.
Karla: There was a chance Andras might have targeted you.
Petra: Huh? Why would the evil spirit have any reason to come after me?
Karla: Andras has a tendency to use those with a strong affinity for magic—such as the wind and earth shamans—as its vessel.
Karla: And your talent in that regard surpasses my own. I figured you were almost certain to be targeted.
Petra: ...
Karla: It was because I love you so much that I had to let you go. I did what I felt would be best for you.
Karla: But maybe that's just my selfishness talking... A poor excuse on my part... You have every right to hate me.
Petra: I have so many more complaints to throw at you once this is all over... in addition to ideas on how we can make up for lost time...
Karla: Hahah, fine by me. It's time I took some responsibility as your proud mother anyway.
Karla: And before I forget, I'd like to thank you too for keeping Petra safe.
Wind Spirit: Don't get the wrong idea now. I am simply bound to Petra because of our pact.
Wind Spirit: If I had my way, I would never willingly choose to serve such a frail mage.
Petra: What an awful way to put it, after all the time we've spent together...
Karla: The wind spirit possesses a very strong ego, making him honest to a fault.
Karla: And he's also less likely to lend a helping hand if you're not on the same page... I know firsthand how tough it can be.
Mother and daughter share wry grins as they trade glances.
Karla: Well then, shall we keep at it with the training?
Petra: Yes, let's!
The trace of uneasiness in Petra's smile is all but gone.

Mother's Reasons: Scene 3

During Petra's unsuccessful attempts to master spiritual unison, Andras breaks free of its seal. She realizes that she must come to an understanding with the celestial wind spirit in order for the spell to work, and manages to accomplish just that before it is too late.

While everyone else has turned in for the night, Petra continues practicing the spiritual unison spell.
Petra: Pant... Wheeze... Again...
Wind Spirit: Humph. Still at it, eh?
Petra: Of course...
Staying upright with the help of her staff, Petra musters every last ounce of strength she has.
Wind Spirit: How foolish.
Petra: Tch! I don't need to hear that from you!
Petra: I already know I'm lacking... And that I'll never be as strong as my mother...
Petra: But this is something only I can do. If I can't pull this off, then Mother and the crew...
Petra: I have to do this!
Petra: As the wind shaman, I would be remiss to simply let an evil spirit run amok. Moreover—
Wind Spirit: That's exactly what I'm calling foolish.
Petra: Huh?
Wind Spirit: Never mind your capabilities. Understanding the meaning behind this technique must come first. That is where you're lacking.
Petra: What... do you mean?
Wind Spirit: As much as I'd like to tell you to figure it out yourself, I realize that's not going to get us anywhere...
Wind Spirit: Very well then. Consider this an admonition.
Wind Spirit: The spell you're trying to master is not one that subjugates the spirit. Rather, it is one where you harmonize with the spirit in order to draw out its true power.
Wind Spirit: And that is by no means an easy feat. You and I are different on a fundamental level, in more ways than one.
Wind Spirit: Thus you must earn my sympathy and prove that you're worthy of my power.
Wind Spirit: I believe Karla said as much. To lean into, understand, and become one with your spirit's soul and will—only then can you draw out my full power.
Petra: ...
Wind Spirit: To put it simply, your task is to understand who I am while showing me who you are. If you cannot accomplish that, then this is a lost cause.
Petra: So in other words, the problem lies between you and me rather than my own capabilities...
Wind Spirit: Exactly.
Petra: This is all so sudden...
Wind Spirit: ...
Fine, consider this a compromise of the greatest degree on my part. Tell me why you seek my strength.
Petra: Well... I can't just leave Andras to do as it pleases.
Wind Spirit: Why not?
Petra: People must be shielded from Andras... We must not have a repeat of the tragedy that happened in Montbix.
Petra: It is the calling of us wind shamans.
Wind Spirit: You're speaking from the heart, yes? In which case, the spell is almost certain to fail.
Wind Spirit: Why, you might ask? Because it is impossible for me to grasp the motivations behind this "calling" you speak of.
Petra: ...
Wind Spirit: Consider once more why it is you seek my power.
Wind Spirit: Whatever your reason, it must be something I can empathize with—that is the key.
The celestial wind spirit leaves Petra with those words before disappearing.
Petra: I need your power... to protect everyone as the wind shaman—
Petra: ...!
That gust just now...
A chill runs down her spine.
A black mist begins to pervade the forest, suggesting something is afoot.
Petra: No, this can't be!
Petra: ...!
The sound of rustling grass from behind puts Petra on alert.
She immediately points her staff in the opposite direction in response.
Elmott: Here you are.
Karla: I'm glad you're safe.
Petra: Oh, it's you guys... What happened? Could this black mist be...
Karla: Yes, you guess right. Andras must have broken through my seal.
Petra: ...!
Oh no...
Elmott: Looks like you've been pretty hard-core about your training.
Petra: But I haven't succeeded in casting the spell even once...
Karla: ...
A sour mood overtakes the crew.
Petra: I'm... sorry...
Karla: Petra?
Petra: None of this would be happening if only I had more strength...
Petra: If only I hadn't made such a big deal about wanting to make a difference...
Petra: If only I weren't so insistent on following in Mother's footsteps...
  1. You've done nothing wrong!

Choose: You've done nothing wrong!

Vyrn: Yeah, what (Captain) said!
Vyrn: It was our decision to come along and help you find your mom.
Lyria: Mm-hm! We can find a solution together!
Elmott: Exactly. It's too early to be throwing in the towel.
(Captain) nods in agreement.
Petra: Does a solution even exist?
Karla: We'll just have to figure it out.
Petra: Mother?
Karla: I hate myself for having to ask this, but can I count on your help if worst comes to worst?
Karla turns to Elmott and the crew, a hint of sadness in her expression.
Elmott: That's gonna be a hell no from me. The flame left a nasty taste in my mouth, and I've got no plans to see it ever again.
Karla: ...
Petra: That's right! What a thing to ask for, Mother! We could never sacrifice you!
Petra: Don't tell me you've forgotten we were going to make up for lost time! And I haven't told you all my gripes yet either!
Petra: You promised me, Mother!
Karla: It doesn't hurt to prepare for a worst-case scenario... Besides, surely you realize that at this rate, everyone's—
Petra: No, I don't! We finally got to see each other again... We've barely had the chance to talk...
Petra: Are you going to leave me alone all over again?
Karla: Petra...
Uncontrollable tears stream down her cheeks, leaving a small puddle on the ground.
Petra: If you're saying that's the only way... then I'll be the sacrifice!
Petra: After all, my incompetence is what sparked this whole mess—
Karla: !
Petra: Mo... ther?
Karla: No, Petra... I won't let that happen.
Petra: But... I...
Andras's Voice: You certainly did a number on me back then, Karla...
With those words, the surrounding mist converges to take shape.
Karla: Andras...
Andras: Humph. Everything would have gone so well had you not spoiled my plans, blasted shaman...
Andras: But thanks to this setback, I now realize that you are my biggest obstacle.
Andras: Upon my return, I'd planned on taking control of your daughter first before finishing you off...
Andras: But no, I cannot risk your interference. You shall die here and now.
Karla: Hah, I'm afraid you won't find me to be such an easy target.
Karla: In fact, I'm ready to seal you away once more.
Andras: I'd like to see you try.
Andra disperses into a mist that aggressively rushes at Karla.
She quickly responds with a spell.
Karla: Wind spirits, heed my call!
Green tornado and black mist repeatedly collide into each other, with the latter slowly dominating and dyeing the tornado black.
Petra: Mother!
Petra: Celestial wind spirit, lend me your strength so that I may protect my mother!
Petra: Spiritual Unison!
Petra: Haaah!
Despite her best efforts, Petra's spell falls flat.
Petra: Why... Why won't it work... Mother needs my protection...
Vyrn: Darn it! Is the spirit's power really the only way we can lay a hand on Andras?
Andras and Karla clash before Petra's very eyes.
The celestial wind spirit puts on a troubled expression.
Wind Spirit: Petra, if you wish to help your mother, then present me with an answer I can empathize with. Why is it you seek my power?
Petra: This is no time for word games! We have to do something n—
Wind Spirit: Answer me.
Faced with the spirit's overwhelming presence, Petra feels compelled to answer.
Petra: Because I'm the wind shaman...
Wind Spirit: You wish to fulfill your calling, and for that you seek power. Is that really all there is to it?
Petra: ...
Petra: (The true reason I seek strength... Fulfilling my calling as a shaman is definitely a big part of it...)
Petra: (And of course, I have people I want to protect... But most importantly...)
Petra: The truth is...
Though her words are nearly drowned out by the raging gusts, the celestial wind spirit picks up the entirety of her statement.
Wind Spirit: A most befitting answer. I deem you worthy of my power.
Petra: Huh...
Wind Spirit: Try the spell once more. Cast away all worldly thoughts and focus on that singular wish.
Petra: Okay...
Karla: The wind spirit possesses a very strong ego, making him honest to a fault.
Karla: And he's also less likely to lend a helping hand if you're not on the same page... I know firsthand how tough it can be.
A ray of hope flashes across Petra's face as she takes a deep breath and tightly grips her staff.
Petra: Here goes! Spiritual Unison...
The surrounding winds gather around her; the shaman's body emits a green glow.
The very air itself seems to rumble in response.
Karla: Petra!
Petra: ...
Petra: (It's... working? Almost as if the failed attempts before had never happened...)
Petra closes her eyes. A gentle, almost celebratory, breeze blows in the vicinity.
Petra: Is this the power of the celestial wind spirit?
Wind Spirit: Only a fraction of it. Nonetheless, you did well, Petra, in finding a way to link with me.
Petra: It's thanks to all the little hints you gave me...
Wind Spirit: As you said, Andras cannot be left to roam freely. And more importantly...
Petra: Indeed.
With a swing of her staff, Petra's gales quickly disperse the mist-stained tornado.
Andras: ...!
Egads...
Elmott: Right on time, Petra.
Petra: Yes... I'll take... No, we'll take things from here.
Petra flashes a bold, confident grin and directs her staff at Andras.
Petra: Let us show Andras, my mother, and everyone else the extent of our newfound power.
Wind Spirit: Heh, sounds good to me. Draw forth my power at will.
Petra: That's the idea!
Andras: Impossible... How could such a frail mortal control the power of the celestial wind spirit...
Petra: It's time to settle things once and for all! We will not lose!
With that bold claim, Petra lets loose with her new ability.

Mother's Reasons: Scene 4

Petra and the celestial wind spirit annihilate Andras with overwhelming force. With peace restored and her personal mission accomplished, Petra expresses her desire to continue traveling with the crew after catching up with her mother.

Petra: Winds!
Andras: Ngh!
Having learned the art of spiritual unison, Petra manages to drive Andras back.
Karla: This is Petra's true power? I knew she had talent, but this is something else...
(Captain) and the crew stare in disbelief at the overwhelming might of Petra and the celestial wind spirit.
Andras: It appears I am no match for you right now... I'll simply have to gather my strength to finish you off for good on a future date.
Andras turns into a mist that disperses into the surroundings.
Wind Spirit: Petra!
Petra: I know! Winds, gather before me!
The atmosphere itself begins to tremble.
Petra's gusts entangle the mist-turned Andras and drag the evil spirit toward her.
Andras: How can this be... Mere winds should not be able to capture me in my mist form!
Wind Spirit: Just as mist can take on any form or shape, so can wind.
Wind Spirit: Finish it, Petra.
Petra: Right!
Petra: Ascend into a spiraling gust!
Ventus Irae!
The concentrated winds combine to form a massive tornado.
Andras: Gwaaah!
Andras is completely swallowed up by the resulting thunderstorm, its wailing death throes echoing into the void.
Having completed her task, Petra collapses to the ground.
Petra: Mng... Where am I...
Karla: You're up.
Petra: Mother? I must've fallen unconscious again...
Petra: Wait, where's Andras!
Ngh!
Petra bolts upward, only to then twist her face in pain in the next moment.
Petra: Wh-what's happened to me... My body... Augh...
Lyria: I-it's not too bad, is it, Petra?
Karla: Oh, there's nothing to worry about. Petra simply overexerted herself. Give her a few day's rest, and she'll be right as rain.
Petra: More importantly... what happened to Andras?
Karla: You vanquished that evil spirit for good with your final blow.
Petra: That's... a relief...
Greatly consoled by the news, Petra is awash in an inner sense of peace and calm.
Karla: Be proud of yourself, Petra. You saved everyone.
Petra: Oh, now you're exaggerating...
Lyria: Petra, your face is all red.
Petra: Augh...
Karla: Haha, she's just blushing from the embarrassment. That's my adorable Petra for you.
Petra: E-enough about me already!
Vyrn: It was a close call, but Petra really came through in the end, huh.
Petra: I have the celestial wind spirit's many hints to thank for that. Spiritual unison isn't a spell meant to subjugate the spirit.
Petra: Rather, it's one where you harmonize with the spirit in order to draw out its true power.
Petra: Our thoughts had to become one in order for that to happen.
Petra: As a wind shaman, I always told myself that I needed more power to fulfill my calling. I believed that from my heart of hearts.
Petra: But the celestial wind spirit could not grasp such a notion...
Petra: That's why I kept messing up. Because we were not on the same page; our paths were divergent.
Elmott: So? How'd you two end up seeing eye to eye in the end?
Petra: I put a lot of thought into the spirit's words and considered the true reason I sought strength.
Karla: Care to tell us what that might be?
Petra: To become a wind shaman so incredible that even my mother would have to respect me.
Petra: To show her how far I've come all by myself...
Petra: For that I needed power.
Petra: It was a truth that the celestial wind spirit could immediately relate to.
Petra: The idea was to show both Mother and Andras the extent of my capabilities.
Vyrn: Wow... A bit extreme, don'tcha think?
Wind Spirit: Hah. What's more, Petra didn't show the least bit of hesitation in her conviction.
Wind Spirit: She was completely fearless in her thirst for power. The power to do what she must.
Wind Spirit: It was a simple objective that I could identify with, which was the key to success.
Karla: You could say that the wind spirit is brutally honest with himself.
Karla: In addition, he has a huge ago and won't help with anything he doesn't personally agree with.
Vyrn: So in other words, the guy's a narcissist.
Petra poses a question to the celestial wind spirit, her gaze downcast.
Petra: Um... In your eyes, how did I do? Am I fitting as the shaman bound to you?
Wind Spirit: Hah, let's just say you get a passing grade.
Petra: Th-thank you.
Grinning from ear to ear, Petra bows at the celestial spirit.
Vyrn: Think we should get back to the Grandcypher soon now that Petra's up?
Vyrn: This ain't the best place for her to rest up.
Lyria: Good point.
  1. Any plans going forward, Petra?

Choose: Any plans going forward, Petra?

Lyria: Huh? What's with the sudden question?
Lyria: ...
Oh, I see!
Lyria: You've been traveling in search of your mother ever since returning home once, Petra...
Petra: Um... I'd like to continue traveling with the crew if you'll have me.
Petra: Though it'll have to be after I've had some time to spend with my mother.
Karla: Time with me?
Petra: Yeah, we talked about making up for lost time and me unloading all my gripes. Remember?
Karla: Ah, that's right... It's going to be great catching up, Petra.
Petra: It sure will be!
Though Karla gives a wry smile, Petra is beaming with joy at the thought of spending precious time with her mother.
The wind shaman's tale concludes here.
Only for another tale of the wind shaman to begin anew.
