Rika Land, Here We Come!

(Captain) and company bump into the sisters from before and learn that the Melanel Festival would be happening that very night. When they see a group of thugs spraying graffiti on the town's Melanel statue, Rika jumps in to stop the vandalism.

(Captain) and company are staying in a village deep in a forest.

One morning Rika calls out to the crew with a sparkle in her eyes.

Rika: Hey, hey, (Captain), Sis. I wanna go shopping in town!

Mika: Shopping? In town?

Rika: Uh-huh! I'm getting that urge to splurge! I'm sure you're feeling it too, Sis.

Mika: Rika. We'd have to leave the forest to get to town. Let's not be selfish now.

Rika: Aww, come on! It's getting boring being stuck out here in the sticks!

Rika: Besides, it's not that far! Think of it like heading from Saitama to Shibuya back in our world. Right, (Captain)?

Rika: See? Even (Captain) agrees with me! C'mon, Sis! Whaddya say?

Mika: Hold it, (Captain)! Do you even know where Saitama and Shibuya are?

Mika: Sigh... All right then. Sorry, (Captain), but do you fancy taking a trip into town with us for some shopping?

(Captain) nods firmly at Mika.

Rika: Yay! You're the best, Sis!

Mika: Geez, you sure are in a good mood today, Rika.

Lyria: Sounds like fun! I'm looking forward to our shopping trip too!

Vyrn: Right on. I'm always up for a change of pace.

The crew departs from the village and arrives at the town market after noon.

Rika: Whoa, check out the sparkle on this necklace! It's almost like magic!

Mika: Uhh, that's because it's actually infused with magic, silly. Ooh, I really like this one!

Vyrn: Looks like the two are having a blast out here after all.

???: Heeey, Rika-chan!

???: Big Sis Rika!

Rika: Hm? Someone's calling me from up above... Ah!

Rika looks up to find two figures atop rhinoceros beetles waving at her.

They turn out to be the sisters the crew had met previously in the forest.

Rika: Hey! So this is where you two lived! Talk about coincidence!

Rika: Oh, and I see you learned to ride a rhinoceros beetle too! Good going!

Girl: Mm-hm! I wanted to be just like my sister, so ever since that day I've been practicing my socks off!

Girl: And guess what? We were both chosen as ohtsu bug riders for the Melanel Festival!

Rika: Hm, what's that? You ever heard of it, Sis?

Mika: I'm just as clueless as you.

Girl's Sister: Allow me to explain. Here in this town, we pray to a divine beast called Melanel, you see. Melanel's our guardian deity.

Vyrn: So you've got a deity here, huh?

Girl's Sister: Well, that's sort of what we're here about. Actually, it'll be faster if you just come with us and see for yourselves.

Girl's Sister: We can see it all from here.
That's Melanel's statue.

Rika: Wow, that thing is huge! And it looks super strong!

Mika: Umm... Is it just me, or does it sort of resemble a gorilla?

Rika: Whatever it is, it's totally awesome!

Rika: So that's the deity of this town, huh? Did I mention it looks awesome?

Girl: The statue's definitely big, but the real Melanel's even bigger!

Rika: Yeah? This Melanel deity sounds really amazing.
Hm? What are those people doing?

Rika looks down by the statue's feet to find a group of rowdy thugs drawing graffiti on it.

Thug 1: Hahah! This whole Melanel thing is a joke!

Thug 2: Let's see how it likes this!

Vyrn: Rgh... That's messed up...

Rika: Defacing the ultra-cool Melanel statue is unforgivable! I'm gonna go stick it to them!

Mika: Wait, Rika!

Rika goes off alone to confront the thugs.

Rika: Stop this right now! This statue belongs to everyone! Drawing graffiti on it is just wrong!

Thug 1: Huh? What's with this kid?

Rika: Don't call me a kid! I'm in junior high, and I'm the most charismatic idol you'll find anywhere!

Rika: Helping gorilla deities is all in a day's work for an idol! Get ready for a pummeling!

Vyrn: (Captain)! We've gotta help her!

Rika Land, Here We Come!: Scene 2

As is village tradition, the sisters perform above ohtsu bugs to appease the gorilla deity Melanel during the festival. When their performance is obstructed by thugs, Rika and Mika take the girls' places.

After defeating the thugs, the crew once again listens to what the girls have to say.

Girl's Sister: Melanel has lived in the forest since ancient times. But she comes to this town once a year.

Girl's Sister: And that day is when we hold the Melanel Festival.

Girl's Sister: It is custom for girls designated as ohtsu bug riders to perform a traditional dance.

Girl's Sister: Without the dance, it's said that Melanel would be most displeased and begin rampaging across town.

Rika: So a bunch of you get to dance from atop rhinoceros beetles? Wow, that sounds like fun!

Mika: Melanel Festival? Riding on ohtsu bugs? Dancing? I have absolutely no idea what's happening here!

Vyrn: No problem with that. I'm just as lost as you are.

Rika: So when's this festival happening?

Girl: It's tonight actually.

Rika: What? Tonight! Ooh, I wanna see the dance! (Captain)? Sis?

Choose: Sure.

Rika: Yaay! But my curfew—Meh, I guess I don't need to worry about that.

Rika: Ehehe! I can't wait!

Vyrn: Heheh, we can't say no to such a happy face.

Mika: Well, I guess every once in a while can't hurt. Besides, I really like festivals myself.

By nightfall the townspeople open up shop and set up little tents across town.

The crew wades through the lively crowds, heading toward the town's entrance where Melanel is said to appear.

Melanel: ...

Rika: Wow! I can't believe it! She's really here!

Mika: She certainly has an impressive aura about her, all right... Still think she looks like a gorilla though.

A giant divine beast shows itself before all at the town's entrance.

As if waiting for this moment, a group of girls straddle their ohtsu bugs and take off.

They fly ever higher into the darkness of the night, the town's lights reflecting off the bodies of the ohtsu bugs and creating a glittery effect.

Rika: Wow! Isn't that beautiful, Sis?

Mika: Yeah, it's amazing... I can hardly believe they're doing this all mid-flight atop rhinoceros beetles...

The girls stabilize the altitude of their mounts and get ready to stand up so they can begin their dance.

Thug 1: Heheh!

Thug 2: Let's see how ya like this!

Rika: Hm? Did something just flash over there?

Mika: Ah, it's those guys again! From this afternoon!

Rika: They're using flashing lights to get in the way of the performance! What cowards!

Girl: I-it's too bright! Aiiee!

Mika: Uh-oh! She's losing her balance!

Girl's Sister: Tch!

The girl's sister rushes in for the rescue, and the momentum pushes them toward a collision course with Melanel.

Rika: Watch out!

The two lose their balance from the impact and head straight for the ground.

Vyrn: Not good! They're gonna crash!

The crew runs in the girls' direction.

Rika: Are you two okay?

Skillful maneuvering of the ohtsu bugs helped the girls lessen the impact of the fall.

But the girl's sister has sprained an ankle and has trouble getting back up in the air.

Girl: Oh my gosh, Sis... I'm so sorry. This is all my fault...

Girl's Sister: Don't blame yourself... This wouldn't have happened if I had been more careful... Ngh...

Melanel: Hoo-hoo-ooga-booga!

Townsperson 1: Melanel doesn't look happy about this!

Townsperson 2: Run for it!

Distraught at the night's turn of events, Melanel begins rampaging at the town's entrance. The town falls into a panic.

Vyrn: (Captain)! At this rate there's gonna be major damage to the town!

Mika: We have to stop that gorilla!

The crew tries to calm Melanel down, but to no avail.

Melanel: Hoo-hoo-ooga-booga!

Vyrn: So what next? Should we just take it out?

Lyria: No! That won't do! Did you forget Melanel's the guardian deity of this town?

Mika: Tsk... What are you saying we do then?

Girl: All I wanted to do was fly like my sister...

Girl: This whole mess is all my fault. I'm so sorry, everyone...

Girl: Big Sis Rika. All this time, I did everything I could to be great like my sister.

Girl: But all I've been doing is dragging her down...

Girl: It's no use—no matter how hard I try, I'll never be like her... I just don't know what to do anymore.

Rika: ...

The girl's confusion reaches a fever pitch, but Rika beams her a radiant smile.

Rika: I know what to do! Mika and I will put on a live concert right here and now to pacify Melanel!

In contrast to the buoyant Rika, the crew is flabbergasted.

Girl: A concert?

Rika: That's right! We'll sing, we'll dance—and all on top of rhinoceros beetles of course!

Rika: We can do it! This is totally our thing as idols!

Girl's Sister: Idols?

Rika: Mm-hm! Melanel's gonna totally be on cloud nine when she sees Mika and I rocking it together!

Rika: A live show from the super charismatic and charming school girl idol duo—it doesn't get any better than this!

Rika: C'mon, Sis! Hop on behind me!

Mika: No way am I riding a rhinoceros beetle!
Although maybe I'm being too picky given the circumstances...

Mika: Hey, can a single beetle carry both of us?

Girl's Sister: I think it's fine... But the two of you riding it like that from the get-go can be kind of risky.

Mika: Well, there's no stopping Rika when she gets like this!

Mika: It kinda creeps me out, but I'll make it through somehow! All right, Rika, I'm hopping aboard!

Rika: Thanks, Sis! Here we go now! Fly! Up, up, and away!

The Jougasaki sisters get away from the others, straddle the nearby ohtsu bug, and fly into the darkness of the night.

They soar directly toward Melanel's line of sight and stop right in front of her, wowing everyone as they sing and dance in unison.

Mika's powerful voice provides the perfect undertones for Rika's bright, cheerful voice.

Rika: (A concert with Mika and rhinoceros beetles! Ah, this is too much fun!)

Melanel watches with suspicion at first, but she and everyone watching from below are quickly entranced by the idols' fantastic showing.

When the live performance comes to an end, Melanel beats her chest at the idols in feverish excitement and returns to the forest in good spirits.

The Jougasaki sisters land amidst rapturous cheers and applause from the townspeople.

Vyrn: Rika! Mika! You two rock!

Rika: Ehehe! Melanel totally dug it! She was practically in Rika Land!

Mika: Whew... That might be the most tiring show I've ever put on. But we're always up to the challenge! Hehe.

Girl's Sister: Thank you so much, Rika-chan! Mika-chan! Really, thank you!

Girl: That was amazing! Big Sis Rika, you were sparkling up there! Idols are the best!

With the girl still in an excited frenzy, Rika gently calls out to her.

Rika: Guess what? I decided to become an idol in the first place because I love my sister so much—I wanted to be just like her.

Girl: Hm?

Rika: But things are kinda different now. I've realized that I'm not just trying to imitate her anymore.

Rika: Rather, I'm trying to find out what my own charms are, you know? Once I figure that out for myself, then I can really shine!

Rika: In fact, it was watching you two that really brought it home to me.

Rika: Try as I might, I could never be Mika.

Girl: I see... I can't really be my sister... But maybe that doesn't matter...

Girl: I need to find out what I'm good at and shine in my own way!

Rika: That's the idea! I might be the little sister of charismatic high school idol Mika Jougasaki...

Rika: But I'm the very best at being the promising idol Rika Jougasaki!

Rika: And when I do, I'm gonna become that much more amazing as an idol!

In showing the girl a possible path she can take, Rika revels in the possibilities of her own future.

The lips of everyone around naturally curve upward, showing just how utterly contagious her smile is.

Even in the world of the skies, Rika's natural talent as an idol shines forth and brightens the day.

In later years, finding herself no longer enthused by the Melanel Festival, Melanel would go on to strive to become an idol herself... But that, as they say, is another story.
