Family Longings

(Captain)'s crew and Ryan have stopped at Ryan's hometown for some rest and relaxation. Ryan has been eagerly waiting for a long time to see his little sister, and so he heads toward her house. However, when he gets there, instead of his sister, he finds only a letter she left for him which reads: "Big brother, I have decided to run away from home. I'm going to the forest." Ryan rushes into the monster-filled forest to find his sister, and (Captain) and the crew hurry after him.

Having taken care of all their requests, (Captain) and the others visit Ryan's hometown.
As they move through the peaceful village, people gather around to celebrate Ryan's return.
Villager 1: Whoa, look! It's Ryan! Glad to have you back!
Villager 2: Oh my, look how strong he's become! And are those his friends? They're all welcome here!
Ryan: Thanks. So, is Conlon home?
Child: Uh-huh! She was just in the fields taking care of the plants!
Ryan: Was she now! Conlon, your brother’s coming home!
Vyrn: Hey, hey, wait! Everyone just came out to welcome you! Slow down, Ryan!
Villager 2: Hee hee. It's all right. He's always been like that—he only has eyes for his sister.
Villager 1: But...isn't Conlon angry with him?
Villager 2: Well...I’m sure it will be fine. Have fun at Ryan's place, you guys.
Though confused by the villagers’ comments, the party follows after Ryan.
Ryan: You’re finally here! This is my home—the best house in the world, where my little sister is waiting.
With a goofy grin on his face, Ryan opens the door.
Ryan: I'm hooome! Conlon, it's me, your big brother!
Vyrn: Um.... Nobody's here.
Ryan: What! That doesn’t make any sense... And she wasn't outside, either...
Lyria: Hmm... Oh! Look, Ryan! There's a letter.
Lyria directs Ryan’s attention to a letter on the table.
He picks up the letter, and his eyes open wide. He begins to tremble.
Vyrn: What's wrong? What does it say?
Our heroes look at the letter. Adorable handwriting spells out a message to Ryan.
"To my dear brother. I’ve decided to run away from home. I’m going to the forest."
Ryan: Run away? What! Why?
Vyrn: Hey! Ryan, calm down! She said she was going to the forest!
Ryan: The in, THAT forest? The one with all the monsters? Conlon! I'm coming for you!
Vyrn: Whoa! That was fast!
Lyria: She said she's...running away, right? So why would she tell him where she's going?
Vyrn: I have no clue... Anyway, we better go after him!
(Captain) agrees. They hurry after Ryan into a forest supposedly infested with monsters.

Family Longings: Scene 2

Looking for Ryan's little sister, (Captain) and the crew progress into the forest. On the way they find a second letter from Ryan's sister, and from its contents they realize she is playing around. However, Ryan is so worried about his little sister that he leaves (Captain) and the crew behind, bounding up the mountain at remarkable speed.

The party searches every corner of the forest, but there are no signs of life aside from the monsters they defeat along the way.
Ryan: ARRGH! CONLON! Where ARE you! It's dangerous here! Come home, Conlon!
Ryan: Why did you have to run away! Are going through a rebellious phase? Ergh...!
Vyrn: Um...Ryan? Could you calm down for a minute?
Lyria: Don't you think it’s a little strange? That she would run away from home, but still tell you where she was going?
Ryan: Hey! There's someone in the forest!
Ryan appears to have sensed something. He goes tearing off into the forest at incredible speed.
Vyrn: Whoa! Wait! Ryan, come back!
(Captain) and the others hurry after Ryan.
Ryan stands there, stiff, a letter in his hand.
Lyria: So, uh...what does it say this time?
Timidly, the party leans in to see the letter.
"To my dear brother. I see you still have the instincts of a wild animal. I'm going to the mountains. Don't look for me."
Vyrn: Uh... I get it now. I think she's just messing with you, Ryan.
Lyria: Haha. Yes, that must be it. She wrote where she's going, but then says not to look for her...
But Ryan is distraught. He holds his head in his hands, trembling uncontrollably.
Ryan: The mountains? No... Not...THOSE mountains?
Ryan: She'll get hurt in a dangerous place like that! CONLON!
(Captain) and Ryan had narrowly escaped death a number of times together.
That being the case, (Captain) had a pretty good idea of the extent of Ryan’s physical abilities.
And the speed and nimbleness which Ryan demonstrated at this moment was, without a doubt, the best (Captain) had ever seen.
Vyrn: Hey, what are you waiting for! This is no time for sitting around with a misty look in your eyes! After him!
(Captain) nods, flustered, and chases after Ryan, who is already out of sight.

Family Longings: Scene 3

Despite following Ryan to the very summit of the mountain, his little sister is still nowhere to be found. Instead, however, they find a basket containing vegetables and another letter. The vegetables were the prize crop grown by Ryan's sister, which he takes to be a sign of her antagonistic love for him. Ryan enjoys the delicious vegetables and the splendid view of his hometown from atop the mountain, and in his heart he vows to return again.

(Captain) follows Ryan all through the mountains, but Conlon is nowhere in sight.
But at one mountain peak, the party does find a charming basket containing delicious-looking vegetables and a single letter.
Ryan takes the letter from the basket and calmly begins to read it.
Vyrn: Erp... Is everything gonna be okay this time? Wh-what does it say?
As Ryan reads, the party timidly leans in to see the letter.
"To my silly brother: All this time and you haven't come home once. Did you think you could just show up and expect to see me?"
"You're so silly. I wanted to see you so badly, but I all I got was money and letters..."
"Think about that. You won't see me this time, but next will. So you'd better come back again."
Ryan: ...So that’s it. She’s exactly right.
Ryan: It really has been a long time since I last saw her...since I came back home.
Ryan: How many years has it been? ...How long since I’ve been home, and we played together like this?
Vyrn: What! You mean, you KNEW she was playing with you?
Ryan: Heh, she’s my dear little sister. I usually know what she’s up to. Well...I'll have to come back later then.
Lyria: Um...are you sure you don’t want to see her? After we came all the way here?
Ryan: I can't go against her. Besides, if I force her to see me now, she might hate me, and I...I couldn’t bear that.
Ryan's shoulders slump sadly. He looks dejected.
While searching for something to say, (Captain) notices another letter in the basket.
Ryan: Huh?
Ryan picks it up, and he and the party read it together.
"Look under the vegetables. And make sure to eat them. I’m very proud of them. And enjoy the view."
Puzzled, Ryan removes the vegetables and looks at the bottom of the basket, where he finds an adorable plush rabbit.
Ryan: Th-this of Conlon’s handmade stuffed animals!
Lyria: Wow! It's so cute!
Ryan: Ahh! Ah! This is amazing! I've never seen a stuffed rabbit so cute! And it's so soft and furry!
Ryan: Conlon! I'll come back, I promise! You're brother will be back again!
Ryan feels his sister's love deeply—and he and the party stuff their faces with the tasty vegetables.
They enjoy the pleasant taste and tang of the vegetables as they take in the view of the village from the mountain summit.
In his heart, Ryan vows that he will come back to his hometown again.
