Family Longings

(Captain) and the crew visit Ryan's hometown for a break, but they find a letter from Ryan's sister waiting for them instead of the girl herself. She has apparently run away from home, so they hurry into the nearby monster-filled forest in pursuit.

Having taken care of all their requests, (Captain) and the crew visit Ryan's hometown.
As they move through the peaceful village, people gather around to celebrate Ryan's return.
Villager 1: Whoa, look! It's Ryan! Glad to have you back!
Villager 2: Oh my, look at those muscles! And are these your friends? You're all welcome here!
Ryan: Thanks. Say, is Conlon home?
Child: Yep! She should be taking care of the vegetables in the fields right now!
Ryan: Is she now? Conlon, your brother's coming home!
Vyrn: Hey, wait! Everyone else just came out to welcome you! Slow down, Ryan!
Villager 2: Hehehe. It's all right. The only person he's ever had eyes for is his sister.
Villager 1: But isn't Conlon angry with him at the moment?
Villager 2: Maybe... but I'm sure it's no big deal. Have fun at Ryan's place, you guys.
Though confused by the villagers' comments, the crew follows Ryan.
Ryan: It took you guys long enough. This here is my house—the best home in all the skies, and the place where my little sister is waiting for me.
With a goofy grin on his face, Ryan opens the door.
Ryan: I'm hooome! Conlon, it's me, your big brother!
Vyrn: Um... Nobody's here.
Ryan: What? That doesn't make any sense. She wasn't outside either...
Lyria: Hmm... Oh! Look, Ryan! There's a letter.
Lyria directs Ryan's attention to a letter on the table.
He picks it up, and his eyes open wide as he reads it. He begins to tremble.
Vyrn: What's wrong? What does it say?
The others look at the letter. Adorable handwriting spells out a message to Ryan.
To my dear brother. I've decided to run away from home. I'm going to the forest.
Ryan: Run away? But why?
Vyrn: Hey! Ryan, calm down! She said she was going to the forest!
Ryan: The forest? But the only forest near here is loaded with monsters! Conlon! I'm coming for you!
Vyrn: Whoa! That was fast!
Lyria: Um... If she's running away, why would she tell him where she's going?
Vyrn: I have no clue, but we better go after him!
(Captain) agrees. They hurry after Ryan into the monster-infested forest.

Family Longings: Scene 2

While searching the forest, (Captain) and the crew find another letter from Ryan's sister, which implies that she's playing around with him. But his worry drives him up into the mountains in search of her, rushing faster than the rest of the crew can even blink.

(Captain) and the crew search every corner of the forest, but there are no signs of life aside from the monsters they defeat along the way.
Ryan: Argh! Conlon! Where are you? It's dangerous here! Come home, Conlon!
Ryan: Why'd you have to run away? Are you going through a rebellious phase? Ugh!
Vyrn: Um... Ryan? Could you calm down for a minute?
Lyria: Don't you think it's a little strange that she'd run away from home but tell you where she's going?
Ryan: Hey! There's someone in the forest!
Ryan appears to have sensed something. He goes tearing off into the forest at incredible speed.
Ryan appears to have sensed something. He goes tearing off into the forest faster than the rest of the crew can even blink.
Vyrn: Whoa! Wait! Ryan, come back!
(Captain) and the others hurry after him.
They soon find Ryan standing completely still, a letter in his hand.
Lyria: Um... So what does it say this time?
The crew leans in timidly to see the letter.
To my dear brother. I see you still have the instincts of a wild animal. I'm going to the mountains. Don't look for me.
Vyrn: Uh... Is it just me, or is your sister messing with you, Ryan?
Lyria: Haha... I think so too. Why else would she write where she's going and then tell you not to look for her?
But Ryan is distraught. He holds his head in his hands, trembling uncontrollably.
Ryan: The mountains? No, not those mountains! Anything but that!
Ryan: She'll get hurt up there! Conlon!
(Captain) and Ryan have narrowly escaped death together a number of times.
(Captain) therefore has a pretty good idea of the extent of Ryan's physical abilities.
But (Captain) has never seen Ryan dash with such blistering speed before.
Vyrn: Hey, what are you waiting for? This is no time to be sitting around drooling! After him!
(Captain) quickly nods and chases after Ryan, who's already sped out of sight.

Family Longings: Scene 3

The crew follows Ryan all the way to a mountain peak, but his sister is nowhere in sight. They instead find another letter from her, which convinces Ryan to come back again one day.

Though (Captain) follows Ryan all over the mountains, Conlon is nowhere in sight.
But at one mountain peak, the crew does find a charming basket containing delicious-looking vegetables and a letter.
Ryan takes the letter from the basket and calmly begins to read it.
Vyrn: Gulp... Is everything gonna be okay this time? Wh-what does it say?
As Ryan reads the letter, the party timidly leans in to read it too.
To my silly brother: All this time and you haven't come home once. Did you think you could just show up and expect to see me?
Ridiculous. I wanted to see you so badly, but all I got was money and letters...
Think about that. You won't see me this time, but you will next time. So you'd better come back again soon.
Ryan: You know, she's exactly right.
Ryan: It really has been a long time since I last saw her... and since I came back home.
Ryan: How many years has it been? When was the last time we played together like this?
Vyrn: What? So you knew she was playing with you?
Ryan: Heh... She's my dear little sister. I usually know what she's up to. I guess I'll have to come back another time.
Lyria: Um... Are you sure you don't want to see her? We came all the way here after all.
Ryan: I can't go against her wishes. Besides, if I force her to see me now, she might hate me for it, and I couldn't bear that.
Ryan's shoulders slump in dejection.
While searching for something to say, (Captain) notices another letter in the basket.
Ryan: Huh?
Ryan picks it up and reads it with the crew.
Look under the vegetables. And make sure to eat them. I'm very proud of them. Also, enjoy the view.
Puzzled, Ryan removes the vegetables and checks the bottom of the basket, where he finds an adorable plush rabbit.
Ryan: This is one of Conlon's handmade stuffed animals!
Lyria: Wow! It's so cute!
Ryan: Oooh! Oh! This is amazing! I've never seen a stuffed rabbit so cute! And it's so soft and furry!
Ryan: Conlon! I promise I'll come back! Your brother will be back again!
Ryan feels his sister's love deeply—and he and the party stuff their faces with the tasty vegetables.
They enjoy the pleasant taste and tang of the vegetables as they take in the view of the village from the mountain summit.
Silently, Ryan vows to come back to his hometown again someday soon.
