SIEGFRIED - Chapter 1: Routine - Episode 2

On a day several years prior, Lancelot and Percival are sworn in as vice-captains of the Black Dragons. Learning that a large-scale rebellion has broken out in the region of Burgundy, Siegfried leads the Black Dragons to suppress the insurrection. When they arrive at their destination, Vane volunteers to be in charge of setting up camp.

A few years earlier...
In the throne room of the royal capital of Feendrache, a ceremony is being held.
King Josef: ...
Siegfried: ...
King Josef and Siegfried stroll calmly before the Black Dragon knights assembled in the hall.
After waiting for the king to be seated on his throne, Siegfried turns to the crowd and begins to speak.
Siegfried: Let us begin the initiation of the new vice-captains of the Order of the Black Dragons.
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival. Come forward.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir.
The other members of the Order watch enviously as two knights step forward to stand before the king.
Lancelot's Unit: (Sir Lancelot... The time has finally come.)
Percival's Unit: (Sir Percival... We've been waiting for this day for so long.)
Vane: (Whoooa! Lancey looks so cool!)
Vane: (Oh, that red-haired guy next to him must be Percival. He must be pretty amazing to become a vice-captain just like Lancey!)
Siegfried: His Majesty will now conduct the ceremony of blades for each knight.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir.
King Josef lifts a pair of treasured swords from the altar before him and presents them to Lancelot and Percival.
King Josef: Sir Lancelot, I appoint you as vice-captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: Do you swear to devote yourself fully to the kingdom of Feendrache, now and forevermore?
Lancelot: I swear.
King Josef: Sir Percival, I appoint you as vice-captain of the Order of the Black Dragons.
King Josef: Do you swear to devote yourself fully to the kingdom of Feendrache, now and forevermore?
Percival: I swear.
King Josef: Now that the oaths have been made...
King Josef: I hereby declare Lancelot and Percival vice-captains of the Order of the Black Dragons.
Siegfried: Let us celebrate the induction of our two new vice-captains!
At Siegfried's proclamation, the knights raise their voices in jubilation.
Lancelot's Unit: Vice-Captain Lancelot... He looks so gallant!
Percival's Unit: Vice-Captain Percival... He looks so godly!
Vane: Yeees! I'm going to burn Lancey's proud moment into my eyes forever!
The Black Dragons celebrate the initiation of Lancelot and Percival as their vice-captains.
Suddenly, a flustered messenger bursts into the throne room, interrupting the joyous mood.
Messenger: Pardon the intrusion, but I come bearing a message! A large-scale rebellion has broken out in the region of Burgundy!
As a sense of alarm spreads throughout the throne room, King Josef calmly rises to his feet.
King Josef: I know you must be exhausted, but please inform Isabella that the celebrations planned for after the ceremony will be suspended.
Messenger: Yes, Your Majesty!
King Josef: Siegfried, lead the Order of the Black Dragons to suppress the rebel army at once.
Siegfried: As you wish.
Having received his orders from King Josef, Siegfried in turn issues commands to the newly instated vice-captains.
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival. Prepare to depart immediately.
Lancelot & Percival: Yes, sir!
Siegfried turns to the crowd and raises his sword high, addressing all the knights present.
Siegfried: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Lancelot & Percival: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Black Dragons: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Vane: For the righteous glory of Feendrache!
Thus Lancelot and Percival's first assignment as vice-captains ends up being far more serious than anyone could have foreseen.
The Order of the Black Dragons marches toward the region of Burgundy.
Siegfried, Lancelot, and Percival stand at the forefront, leading the advance.
Lancelot: Siegfried, you're looking rather pale. Are you feeling all right?
Siegfried: Yes, I'm fine.
Percival: Please confide in us if you have any concerns. That's our duty as your vice-captains.
Siegfried: Understood. I'll be counting on you.
Siegfried: I'm sorry you two got caught up in something like this right after becoming vice-captains. Lady Luck's not on your side.
Percival: Hah... You said it.
Percival: Is this rebellion in Burgundy being spearheaded by remnants of the faction in support of the late king?
Siegfried: Most likely. I thought they'd all been captured during the previous war, but it seems the issue runs deeper than we thought.
Lancelot: Everything appeared to be resolved, but I suppose it's not so easy to see into the hearts of men...
Siegfried: From our enemy's point of view, our administration of justice comes across as no more than an act of aggression.
Percival: I thought we'd reached an understanding, but now that it comes down to it...
Lancelot: Agreed... We can't see eye to eye.
Siegfried: Don't waver in your conviction, Percival, Lancelot. It'll show in your swordsmanship.
Lancelot: Understood.
Percival: I'll bear that in mind.
Siegfried: Now then, this might be a good place to set up camp...
On Siegfried's orders, the Black Dragons prepare to make camp.
Siegfried: We'll set up camp immediately and begin mapping out our battle strategy.
Just then, one of the other knights comes running up to Lancelot.
Vane: Heeey, Lancey! I made you lunch, but I forgot to give it to you!
Lancelot: (C-come on, Vane! I told you to stop calling me Lancey while we're on duty!)
Vane: (Oh yeah! Sorry, Lancey—er, I mean... Sir Vice-Captain Lancelot!)
Lancelot: (Close, but not quite! Try to be more careful next time, okay, Vane?)
Vane: (You got it! Eat this and break a leg on your first mission as a vice-captain!)
Lancelot: (Right. Thanks for going to so much trouble just to bring me my lunch.)
Percival: Hey... What are you whispering about, Lancelot?
Percival: (Who is that man? He reminds me of a noisy pup.)
Lancelot: Oh, Percival! Don't mind him! He's just a childhood friend of mine...
Siegfried: Lancelot, Percival. I'll let you take care of the camp.
Lancelot: Y-yes, sir! We'll get started right away!
Percival: Lancelot, I think it's your unit's turn to construct the tents.
Upon hearing those words, Vane chimes in timidly.
Vane: Oh? Are we setting up camp now?
Siegfried: Yes, that's right.
Vane: Um... I can handle that! I'm really good at it!
Lancelot: H-hey, Vane! Are you sure about this?
Vane: Yeah... I've been going on tons of expeditions recently, so I have a lot of experience making camp.
Vane: Pretty sure I'm the best in the squadron now, so I've got this! I mean... I can handle this, sir!
Lancelot: O-oh, is that so? In that case, I'll take your word for it...
(Don't overwork yourself...)
After listening to Lancelot and Vane's conversation, Siegfried finally speaks up.
Siegfried: Then can we leave the camp to you, Vane?
Vane: Y-yes, sir! Right away, Captain! You can count on me!
Siegfried: I'll go check on the other units.
As soon as Siegfried has made his departure, Lancelot resumes speaking normally to Vane.
Lancelot: Need any help, Vane?
Vane: Nope, I'm good! Lancey... Er, I mean...
Vane: Vice-Captain Lancelot, I'm sure you have plenty of other things you need to do.
Lancelot: That's true... But are you sure you'll be all right?
Vane: I'll be just fine! Don't worry about me!
Lancelot: Thanks, Vane. Then I'll let you handle the rest.
Vane: Sure thing! Leave it to me! Good luck, Vice-Captain!
Lancelot: Thanks.
After observing the pair's discussion, Percival addresses Lancelot with a stern look on his face.
Percival: Hey, Lancelot. You're a vice-captain too now, so stay sharp.
Percival: Don't forget that the other knights will be paying attention to your every move, even moreso than before.
Lancelot: I know.
Percival: Now then, I'm going to check in with my own unit.
Lancelot: All right, we'll reconvene later.
Percival: Right.
Once Percival has taken his leave, Vane speaks nervously to Lancelot.
Vane: Whew... That red-haired guy's outright terrifying.
Lancelot: I know what you mean. But even though he can be hard on others, he's hardest on himself.
Lancelot: And besides, he comes from the House of Wales. He has all the makings of a perfect knight.
Lancelot: I doubt anyone in the capital would disagree with him being selected as vice-captain.
Sensing Lancelot's hidden reservations, Vane responds through pursed lips.
Vane: Hmm... Vice-Captain Percival, huh...
Lancelot: Hm? What's wrong?
Vane: Well... Since he was selected to be vice-captain and all, I guess he must be pretty great...
Vane: But I think I prefer Vice-Captain Lancelot myself!
Lancelot: Vane...
Vane: You're just as great as he is, Lancelot—everybody knows it!
Vane: I've always known you have what it takes to be captain someday!
Lancelot: Thanks, Vane.
Lancelot: Heh... But captain might be going a little too far...
As Vane's words echo in his mind, Lancelot responds with a bright grin, like his worries have melted away.
Lancelot: Hearing that from you fills me with confidence.
Vane: Good... That's how it should be.
Lancelot: I guess I should be going as well.
Vane: Okay! Same here—I'll have the camp set up in a jiff!
And so Vane begins skillfully constructing the camp facilities.
