A Great Furdeal

En route to Estalucia, the crew helps Wulf and Renie search for a new home. However, Renie dismisses the forest island due to an already existing settlement. On their way back, Wulf suggests that the two keep living on the Grandcypher, make it their home—a proposal Renie promptly rejects.

En route to Estalucia, (Captain)'s crew stops at a nearby island.
Lyria: Nom...
Lyria: Mmm! This tastes so sweet and tart, Renie!
Renie: Does it? Good for you. Not that I asked for your opinion.
Lyria: Ahaha... I guess you didn't...
Joined by Renie and Wulf, the crew make their way through the forest.
Vyrn: Renie's still as tough of a nut to crack as ever, huh.
Wulf: I apologize on her behalf... We're the ones who asked for your help.
  1. Rejected again by Renie.
  2. That's part of her charm.

Choose: Rejected again by Renie.

Lyria: E-enough teasing!
Renie: Hmph.

Choose: That's part of her charm.

Wulf: Is it now? Your kindness really knows no bounds, (Captain).

Previously Wulf, a werewolf man, and Renie, a Human girl, lived side by side in the forests of North Vast.
However, after being driven out by the villagers of a nearby town, the two joined (Captain)'s crew in search of a new home.
One day, while out gathering some ingredients for a request the crew had received...
(Captain) and the others investigate the island to determine its habitability.
Lyria: That's about everything we need. Thanks for tagging along, you two! Your forest know-how sure came in handy!
Wulf: I'm glad we could help.
Vyrn: Anyway, how's this forest? There doesn't seem to be many monsters so far.
Wulf: There's readily available spring water, and the weather is cool enough for our comfort. Our favorite fruits, nuts, and berries seem to grow here as well.
Wulf: We haven't observed all the seasons, so there are still a number of unknowns, but... I believe it's a fairly suitable environment for us.
Renie: ...
Renie: I disagree. I saw some stumps along the way. It's only a matter of time before people start venturing deeper into the forest.
Renie: They'll make a huge fuss if they ever see Wulf. We wouldn't be able to live here for long.
Wulf: I see... I guess that's a possibility.
Lyria: All the forests without monsters have people, and all the forests without people have monsters... This is pretty hard.
Renie: Finding a new home really isn't simple.
Vyrn: Hey, maybe the next place will be the one! We'll keep helpin' you look!
Lyria: ...
Lyria: Um, Renie!
Renie: What?
Lyria: If it's okay with you, you could stay with us on...
Lyria: Actually, never mind. I'm sure we'll find you a nice, new home soon enough!
Wulf: ...
Vyrn: Well, we're off to deliver these goods to our client. What about you two?
Wulf: Seeing as it'd be unacceptable for a werewolf to roam around town, I think I'll head back to the ship.
Wulf: And you, Renie?
Renie: I'm going with you, obviously.
Wulf: Of course. Let's go together then.
After saying goodbye to the rest of the crew, the girl and werewolf head back to the airship, picking various fruits along the way.
Renie: Just look at how much there is... We can make a bunch of jam.
Wulf: If we do, we can even share some with (Captain) and the others.
Renie: Hmph... You know that's not what I meant...
Dividing the work in their usual manner, Renie picks the berries off the nearby shrubs while Wulf grabs the harder-to-reach fruits from the trees.
Wulf: Hm. That'd be...
Spotting a glistening pond, Wulf suddenly leaps in without even a moment's hesitation.
Renie: You're taking a bath here?
Wulf: I wanted to pick the fruit hanging from that branch over there. It looks incredibly succulent, so I thought it'd make a good gift for (Captain).
Renie: Oh. Then do whatever you want, I guess.
Wulf sinks deeper into the pond as he reaches to pluck the orange fruit off the branch. Then, he begins muttering in Renie's direction.
Wulf: I've been thinking, do we really need to keep searching for a new home?
Renie: ...
Wulf: You can't say the thought hasn't crossed your mind.
Wulf: That crew is one of a kind. They hold no prejudice toward a werewolf like myself, and even have other beasts and primals among their ranks.
Wulf: You and I both can live aboard that ship in peace.
Wulf: So why don't we give up this search and settle down—
Renie: Don't be stupid.
Renie: We may be safe now, but who's to say about the future? How do you know we won't get kicked out some day?
Wulf: Lyria... would like to spend more time with you.
Renie: I don't care. I'm fine with just the two of us!
Renie: The crew is just a temporary hideout. We're using them—that's all!
Wulf: ...
Wulf: (She didn't say she hates it, at least...)
After a long silence, Wulf steps out of the pond and places a paw on Renie's head.
Wulf: All right then. We'll keep looking until you're happy.
Renie: Good.
Holding the fruits of their labor, the girl and werewolf begin walking in the airship's direction.
In the distance, a figure watches the pair from the shadows.
Lumberjack: Who the heck are they? A beast... together with a girl?
Lumberjack: Huh? There's no way... Could it be...
Lumberjack: So the folktales were true...
The man folds his hands together as if in prayer, then watches as Wulf slowly fades from view.

A Great Furdeal: Scene 2

While shopping with the crew, Renie buys some soap to celebrate the day she and Wulf first met. She slowly opens up to Lyria, telling her about how she maintains Wulf's fluff, then promises to teach her proper brushing technique. Meanwhile, Wulf runs into some trouble back at the airship.

Some time later, Renie heads into a town to go shopping.
However, she finds herself surrounded by (Captain) and the others.
Renie: Why are you following me? I'm just shopping.
  1. Sorry, Wulf's orders.
  2. We wanted to shop with you.

Choose: Sorry, Wulf's orders.

Vyrn: Yeah, he asked us to join ya if you went shoppin' in town!
Renie: He needs to mind his own business...

Choose: We wanted to shop with you.

Renie: Yeah? Well I don't.
Vyrn: Hey, c'mon. We've got some errands to run too, so just pretend we're taggin' along.

Lyria: Hehe, I'm glad I get to spend time with you, Renie!
Renie: How come?
Lyria: Because I want to get to know you better, of course!
Renie: Sigh. Fine then.
Renie enters a shop filled with a variety of cosmetics and other beauty products.
Lyria: Oh my... Renie, do you use makeup?
Renie: Not at all. I'm here to buy a present for Wulf.
Renie: Tomorrow's the anniversary of the day we first met, so I wanted to buy him some soap for his coat.
Lyria: Whoa! Then let's get him the best product money can buy!
Renie: That's my plan. I want Wulf's fur to be as soft and fluffy as possible.
Without so much as batting an eye, Renie sticks her hand into one of the wooden boxes and pulls out an incredibly expensive bar of soap.
Vyrn: You just wanna cuddle with Wulf, don't ya?
Renie: Wulf likes cuddling with me too, so he'd appreciate a gift like this the most.
Vyrn: If ya say so...
Lyria: The fur around his neck seems especially fluffy! It reminds me of cotton candy!
Renie: It wasn't always that way. His coat used to be all stiff and scratchy.
Lyria: Huh? Really?
Renie: It's like that now only because I brush it every day and use soap that matches his type of fur.
Renie: Just so you know—I'm the one who turned his coat into what it is today.
With an ever slight hint of pride, Renie then pulls out a few brushes from her pocket.
Lyria: Wow, you've got so many!
Renie: There are different kinds of brushes, so it only makes sense that I have many.
Renie: A silver brush would be the best, but you don't have to use something that expensive. How you brush is the most important aspect of turning a coat fluffy.
Lyria: I see!
Vyrn: Hehe, someone's in a good mood. Ya sure do love Wulf.
Suddenly, Lyria grabs a brush off a nearby shelf, then timidly turns to face Renie.
Lyria: Um, Renie... There's actually something I'd like to ask you.
Lyria: Can I help take care of Wulf's coat as well?
Renie: You? Take care of Wulf?
Lyria: I-is that a no?
Renie: ...
Renie: No...
Lyria: O-oh...
Renie: You can't use a brush with such soft bristles. They're useless on Wulf.
Renie: You need something harder, like this one here.
Renie grabs a different brush and hands it to Lyria.
Lyria: ...!
Renie: I won't forgive you if you mess up.
Lyria: Th-thank you! I'll try my best!
Renie: Words alone mean nothing. We're practicing as soon as we get back.
Renie: Ah, one more thing. You'll be starting with his tail. No brushing his neck or tummy until you're ready.
Lyria: Okay! Got it!
Watching the two girls head toward the storekeeper to buy their items, Vyrn lets out a heavy sigh.
Vyrn: All said and done, I guess Renie's finally startin' to open up. It's nice to see.
  1. I'm glad they're having fun.

Choose: I'm glad they're having fun.

Vyrn: Anyway, it's time to get our own stuff done.
Meanwhile, back on the Grandcypher...
Wulf: ...
Wulf: Oh no...

A Great Furdeal: Scene 3

Upon returning to the Grandcypher, the crew stops by Wulf and Renie's room. They enter to find the werewolf wrapped from head to toe in a blanket, refusing to show himself. Renie and (Captain) force him out, revealing his now-spiky coat.

Now done shopping, the crew decides to stop by Wulf and Renie's room.
Renie: Huh? That's strange.
Lyria: What's the matter?
Renie: Whenever Wulf's in our room, he'll come out to greet me as soon as he hears my footsteps.
Vyrn: Those are some ears he's got... But I guess he is a werewolf.
Renie: Wulf? I'm coming in.
Wulf's Voice: ...!
Wulf's Voice: O-okay.
Renie: ...?
Upon entering the room, the group is met by the sight of Wulf lying in bed, wrapped from head to toe in a blanket.
Renie: Wulf? Why are you in bed?
Wulf's Voice: Oh, about that... Uh...
Wulf's Voice: Ah, yes. I'm feeling tired. You see, I was up late last night...
Renie: But you went to bed before me. How are you still sleepy?
Wulf's Voice: I-I woke up in the middle of the night.
Renie: Okay, fine. Then why are you all wrapped up in a blanket?
Wulf's Voice: Um... Well... Because I'm cold, of course!
Renie: ...
Renie: (Captain), remove Wulf's blanket.
  1. On it!

Choose: On it!

Wulf: Hey, stop! No, Renie! C'mon! Not you too, (Captain)!
Renie: You're hiding something! There's no way you'd feel cold with all that hair—not when it's this warm out!
All Three: Wha?
Wulf: ...
Renie: W-Wulf?
Wulf: I'm sorry, Renie.
Wulf: I only just realized that I look like this...
Renie: Where'd your fluff go? After all the time I put into it...
Wulf: It's gone.
Wulf: My coat is a mess of spikes now!
Renie: Wh-wha...
Renie: Whaaat!
Renie: Urgh...
Lyria: Reniiie!
Shocked into silence, the crew can only stare at the completely transformed Wulf as they struggle to find words.
