Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Opening

While competing in the Shadowverse Grand Prix on Genesis Island, Hiro suddenly hears a mysterious voice and loses consciousness. He awakens in an unfamiliar place and spots a group of soldiers attacking (Captain)'s crew. Realizing those soldiers are followers, Hiro uses his Ignis Dragon to rout them.

Red-Haired Boy: My turn! I play Mushussu and Sandstorm Dragon!
The hit digital card game Shadowverse has taken the world by storm.

On Genesis Island, chosen players engage in fierce battles to rise to the top.

Red-Haired Boy: It's time! Attack the enemy leader!
Red-Haired Boy: Aww, yes! Won't be long now before I reach gold rank!
The red-haired boy Hiro Ryugasaki is one of those chosen. He walks along the water's edge, still tingling with excitement.
Hiro: Heh-heh! I wonder what kind of opponent I'll play next!
???: Why do you find joy in competing against others?
      Hiro: Isn't it obvious?
      Hiro: 'Cause it's super fun!
Hiro: C'mon now, don't tell me it's any different for—Huh?
Hiro turns around and is puzzled to find no one there.
???: Kazuki Shindo, Mimori Amamiya, Kai Ijuin, and Hiro Ryugasaki. Proceeding with transportation protocol.
???: Request. Now using admin privileges to execute program.
      Hiro: Ngh! Gwaaagh!
A raging migraine comes over Hiro as the voice speaks into his head.
???: I wish to know the meaning of your answer.
The distant, melancholic voice calls out once more before Hiro's consciousness fades to black.
      Hiro: Gah!
Hiro: What the? Where am I?
Hiro surveys his surroundings and notices the scenery has changed completely.
      Hiro: There's no one around...
Hiro: Wait a sec, I've gotta be dreaming... Did I fall asleep?
Hiro: Aw, man! Did something just explode?
Hiro: There's smoke... I'd better go take a look!
Enigma Soldier 1: Referencing user data... Error. Unregistered user.
Enigma Soldier 1: User is not in possession of a crystal slate. Intruder alert. Proceeding to detain target.

Thelonim: I'll get us outta this mess! Eat this! Harvest's J—
Navi System: Error. You lack attack privileges.
Thelonim: Urk! Stopping my heroic attack before it even starts, huh? Not bad...
Ferry: Just where is that voice coming from?
Thelonim's attacks are sealed off in the same manner as (Captain)'s.
Rackam: As if losing control of the Grandcypher wasn't enough, now we've lost control of ourselves!
Rackam: Lyria, is it a primal beast?
      Lyria: I-I'm not sure!
Rackam: Huh? What do you mean?
Lyria: I can't remember how to listen for a primal's voice!
Having lost the ability to move about freely, the crew can do little but watch as the enemy troops advance.
      Lyria: Eep! L-let me go!
(Captain) and company turn to the source of the scream to find a soldier grabbing Lyria's arm.
      Ferry: No! Lyria!
Enigma Soldier 1: Get your friends to surrender, and we promise to do you no harm. But if they resist...
      Lyria: Ngh...
Hiro: Whoa, whoa! Hold it right there!
Hiro: That's taking it way too far! Can't you see the girl's in pain?
      Enigma Soldier 2: ...
Hiro: I know we're all aiming to compete in the Shadowverse Grand Prix, but show some sportsmanship for goodness sake!
      Enigma Soldier 2: ...
      Lyria: ...?
Enigma Soldier 2: Warning. Impeding game progress is a rule violation and is subject to punishment.
      Hiro: Wait, whaaat?
Rackam: Hey, kid! There's no sense tryin' to reason with these drones!
Enigma Soldier 2: Rule violation confirmed. Proceeding to detain.
Another soldier moves forward to hold Hiro down.
      Hiro: ...!
      1. Run!

      Choose: Run!
A brilliant light suddenly shoots forth from the small slate in the boy's hand.
      Hiro: What the...?

        Hiro: Those numbers...
Hiro: Okay, I get it now! The battle's already underway!
Hiro: So you guys are followers, huh? Let's see how you handle this!
Hiro: Hear the dragon's roar—Ignis Dragon!
The crew stares wide-eyed as a giant dragon appears out of thin air with numbers above it.
        Enigma Soldier 3: ...!
Warning. Updating threat level of target. Switching to attack mode.
        Hiro: Gooo!
Scorched by the dragon's raging flames, the soldiers instantly turn into particles of light.
Thelonim: Ignis Dragon? He can actually command a dragon...
With an envious gaze, Thelonim turns to the mysterious boy.
The crew watches in awe at the dragon and the youth celebrating his victory.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 1: Mysterious Voice - Episode 1

After explaining to Hiro that a strange pull from Kainourios Island caused them to crash-land, the crew pick up two small slates from the fallen soldiers. While inspecting the slates, the Shadowverse title screen pops up, and both (Captain) and Ferry are registered as new players. Hiro gives them a primer on the game.

Some time before the crew came under attack by enigma soldiers...
They were on track to their next destination with Thelonim and Ferry aboard the Grandcypher.
It was smooth sailing until they flew close to Kainourios Island of the Phantagrande Skydom, where a bizarre phenomenon overtook them.
        Lyria: Ah!
        Ferry: Lyria? What's wrong?
Lyria: I sense a primal beast nearby!
The Grandcypher begins shaking, tilting violently in one direction.
Thelonim: Whoa! Rackam! What's going on?
Rackam: This can't be good! The ship's being drawn toward something!
Vyrn: Is it the primal beast you mentioned, Lyria?
Lyria: I-I'm not sure! But I definitely feel a strong power getting closer...
        Lyria: Eek!
Rackam: Cripes! There's no steering this ship with the force they're pulling us at!
Rackam: Grab on to something, everyone!
A gravitational pull of sorts forces the crew to crash-land on Kainourios Island.
Lyria: We were looking outside the ship, trying to figure out what happened. Then we suddenly found ourselves surrounded...
Thelonim: They kept going on about some saddle-wurst or something, whatever that means. Then they tried to capture us.
Vyrn: They wouldn't listen to a word we said and our movements were sealed off... It's a good thing you came when you did!
The crew explain their circumstances to the red-haired boy, Hiro Ryugasaki.
        Hiro: Must've been rough...
        Hiro: ...
Hiro: So, uh... I'm gonna go on a whim and say this isn't Genesis Island, huh?
Rackam: Nah. We're on Kainourios Island, a pretty remote place.
Hiro: Aw, man... My smartphone won't connect. How am I supposed to play Shadowverse now?
Vyrn: What's that saddle-wurst thing we keep hearing about? Sounds like some kinda hot dog.
Lyria: And what's a smartphone? Is that like a saxophone?
Hiro: No way! You guys haven't heard of Shadowverse? It's a card game—actually, here's my phone!
(Captain) and company watch in wonder as Hiro holds up the strange, rectangular object.
Hiro: Whoa, you guys aren't kidding... What's the world coming to?
Hiro: And how am I even talking to a floating baby dragon like it's perfectly normal! I've gotta be dreaming!
Rackam: Looks like we have some sorta misunderstanding. Which way did you come from, kiddo?
Hiro: You know, I really wish I could tell you...
Hiro explains where he was before ending up on this island.
Vyrn: So you followed some wacky voice and found yourself here, huh...
Hiro: Yep, that about sums it up.
Rackam: From the sound of it, I'd say Genesis Island isn't even in Phantagrande.
Hiro: Any idea how I'd get back there?
Rackam: I wish it were that easy.
Hiro: You've gotta be kidding me! I'll be disqualified from the tournament!
        Lyria: Oh no... That's awful!
Hiro: You're telling me! I promised him we'd play!
Thelonim: Him? Is this person your fated rival?
Hiro: Yeah, I guess you could put it that way.
Hiro: He and I might be rivals, but we're also buddies!
Thelonim's eyes light up as he runs up to Hiro.
Thelonim: Fate must've given you a good kick in the rump to let you know you're destined for greatness!
Hiro: Whoa! Slow down there, pal! What's your deal?
Thelonim believes himself to be a descendant of a great hero and takes great interest in others who may share a similar fate.
He joined the crew to slay evil dragons and demons in hopes of one day becoming the hero of legend he envisions himself as.
Thelonim: I'm the descendant of a hero! I've got fate on my side, just like you!
        Hiro: A hero?
Hiro: That's pretty sweet! Sounds like you'd be perfect for Swordcraft!
Rackam: Thelonim, what's gotten into you?
Thelonim: You saw him summoning that dragon earlier, right? It's clear as day that's Hiro's got a grand destiny ahead of him!
Hiro: Heh-heh! Taken a liking to my Ignis Dragon, haven't you?
Hiro: Out of my dragons, I know I can count on this one to clutch it out for me!
Thelonim: Dragons? You mean you have others?
Hiro: Yep, there's plenty I rely on—
Thelonim: Holy cow! You're a descendant of a dragon!
Hiro: Sure, that's one way of putting it! I play a mean Dragoncraft!
Lyria: Ahaha... They're getting along so well already.
Though the two are coming at things from a slightly different angle, the others are pleased to see them on the same wavelength.
Ferry: (Captain), do you have a moment?
Ferry: Those soldiers earlier seemed to be golems, but of a different type from the ones employed by the Erste Empire. I checked their remains and found this.
Ferry presents the captain with two small smoothly polished slates giving off a shiny luster.
Ferry: From the way Beppo and the others reacted, I think we can treat this as a lead.
The slates are small enough to fit in one's palm, with nothing in particular engraved on them.
(Captain) takes one and fiddles around with it. A mysterious display shows up on the slate's surface.
Rackam: These words and pictures—what's all this?
Navi System: New user confirmed. Aptitude confirmed.
Navi System: (Captain) registered as new Shadowverse player.
Vyrn: Talking slates? I ain't ever seen anything like this before!
Hiro: Wait a sec, that's Shadowverse's title screen!
Hiro: It's a different shape from mine, but you can use this phone to play Shadowverse!
        Lyria: Really?
Hiro: Yup! (Captain)'s now a registered Shadowverse player!
Thelonim: You mean... (Captain) can summon dragons at will like you now?
Hiro: Depends on the class (Captain) chooses...
        Hiro: But yeah—that's the idea!
Thelonim: I wanna try too! I'm descended from a great hero, so I ought to be able to do the same!
Navi System: Error. New user conditions are not met.
Thelonim: Oof! I'm not good enough for it, huh... Maybe it means I've gotta train harder?
Ferry: Wait, Thelonim. We don't know how safe it is yet—
Navi System: Aptitude confirmed. Ferry registered as new Shadowverse player.
        Ferry: Huh? What just happened...
Having made no physical contact with the slate, Ferry is puzzled as to the reason for her registration.
Rackam: What exactly is this Shadowverse thing anyway? You said it's a card game, right?
Hiro: Hmm... Kinda. It's hard to put into words.
Hiro: This calls for a practical tutorial!
        1. Tutorial?

        Choose: Tutorial?
Hiro: Relax, I'll keep it short and simple! Now turn that phone on and follow my lead!
        Hiro: Shadowverse... Showdown!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 1: Mysterious Voice - Episode 2

After hearing Hiro's explanation, the crew wonder if it was the island's primal beast dictating the rules of Shadowverse that prevented them from fighting back against the soldiers earlier. Eager to find a way off the island and return Hiro to his world, the crew make it their primary objective to find this primal beast.

        Hiro: Shadowverse... Showdown!
(Captain) repeats after Hiro, causing a mysterious command window to show up before them.
Hiro: Shadowverse is a one-on-one competitive game! Knock down the opponent's defense to 0, and victory is yours!
Hiro: Looks like I get first turn. I play Bejeweled Dragon from my hand!
Thelonim: Whoa, a baby dragon! Kinda looks like Vyrn.
        Vyrn: You think so?
Hiro: Heh-heh! Followers like this one come out onto the field and fight for you—the leader!
Hiro: Attacking with followers is the most surefire way to whittle down the enemy leader's defense! Take care of your followers!
Vyrn: Followers, huh... Didn't we hear that term earlier?
Rackam: Yeah, when we were fighting the soldiers. So they were followers too, huh.
Hiro: Huh, I wonder about that...
Hiro: Anyway, know your followers! But that's not all...
Hiro: There's also one-use spell cards, amulet cards that stay in your play area, and so much more!
        1. This is too much to learn...
        2. I get the gist of it.

Choose: This is too much to learn...
Hiro: Nah, you'll get the hang of it! Just watch and learn!
Hiro: There's plenty of cards I didn't quite get either. But I figured them out by using them in battle and watching what they do!

Choose: I get the gist of it.
Hiro: I'm impressed, (Captain)! So you've got it all down pat, huh?
Hiro: Don't hesitate to ask if anything comes up though!
        Continue 1
        Hiro: Anyway, moving on...
Hiro: These are the follower's stats. The sword icon represents attack, while the shield icon represents defense.
Hiro: When your follower attacks, they deal damage to an enemy leader or follower for an amount equal to the attack stat.
Vyrn: So the Bejeweled Dragon's got 1 attack and 1 defense.
Hiro: That's right! This is where I'd attack the opposing leader...
Hiro: But the Bejeweled Dragon can't attack on the turn it comes into play. So I'm ending my turn here!
Hiro: You're up, (Captain)! Start by drawing a card!
Hiro's explanation of Shadowverse goes on for a while longer.
Hiro: My turn! Since the Bejeweled Dragon can attack now...
Hiro: I'm using it to attack you!
Acting on reflexes, (Captain) prepares to launch a counterstrike.
But the captain's movements are cut short as an earlier memory comes to mind.
        Just then...
Navi System: Error. Leaders are not allowed to attack followers directly.
Rackam: So that's how it works, eh. Leaders can't attack followers head-on.
Hiro: You got that right! Leaders themselves can't attack—period!
Hiro clarifies the meaning of the navi system's statement.
Vyrn: Why are Shadowverse's rules taking effect on this island anyway?
Lyria: It might have something to do with the primal presence I felt just before the Grandcypher crashed.
Lyria: Calling a primal beast for confirmation would be best, but for some reason, I can't remember how to do that.
Ferry: In other words, it's very likely that a primal beast is imposing Shadowverse's rules on the whole island...
Rackam: Maybe it's like how Mithra enforces the power of promises on Golonzo Island.
Vyrn: Probably wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say it was the primal that dragged us and Hiro here.
Hiro: Wait, whaaat? Someone wanna fill me in on what a primal beast is?
Rackam: They can whip up storms, restrict people's movements... They're like gods in a sense.
Primal beasts fulfill many roles. Some among them enforce certain rules by forcing people to follow a certain code.
For instance, the primal beast Mithra of Golonzo Island uses its powers to render every contract, pact, or promise absolute and indestructible.
Ferry: That would explain why we couldn't move earlier when facing those soldiers. The primal's power made it so.
Rackam: If we can find this primal, maybe we can get the kid to Genesis Island.
Hiro: For real? That'd be awesome!
        1. Let's track it down together.
        2. We could use your help.

Choose: Let's track it down together.
Ferry: You got us out of a pinch. It's the least we can do to pay you back.
Vyrn: Of course, we'll need your help big-time along the way... After all, you're the Shadowverse expert here.

Choose: We could use your help.
Vyrn: We're still pretty clueless when it comes to Shadowverse...
Vyrn: Things'll go by that much more smoothly if you can come along!
        Continue 2
Hiro: You mean it? I mean, there's a ton of stuff I still don't know about this place but I'd be more than glad to help!
Hiro: I might end up slowing you guys down at times, but when it comes to Shadowverse, I'm totally your guy!
Hiro: Heh-heh! Appreciate the invite, (Captain)!
Hiro extends a hand, to which the captain responds with a firm handshake.
Though Kainourios Island has them ensnared for now...
The crew is confident that Hiro's Shadowverse skills will help them unravel the island's many mysteries.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 1: Mysterious Voice - Episode 3

Seeking info about the island's primal, the crew comes upon a village. Realizing they need to be at least bronze rank in Shadowverse to enter, (Captain) and Hiro engage in a tag battle with the two guards posted there.

Rackam: I'll go check on the Grandcypher and work on repairs if needed.
Thelonim: Okay! And we'll look for anyone who might be living in the area!
Hiro's goal is to return home, while the crew's goal is to find out what went wrong with the Grandcypher.
With their biggest lead being the possible existence of a primal beast, they leave Rackam behind to watch the airship and go look for signs of civilization.
After some time walking down a well-paved road, the crew finds a quaint little village in the distance.
However, a large, imposing gate blocks the entrance, as if to ward off outsiders.
        Soldier: ...
Lyria: I don't sense any hostility from the soldier standing beside those men...
Vyrn: All right, let's get a move on then.
Navi System: Error. Prerequisite rank to enter area not met.
Vyrn: Gah! What is it now?
A voice rings out from the slate (Captain) uses for Shadowverse, startling the crew.
Thelonim: Ack... He won't let us through!
As they get close, the soldier obstructs their path.
Guard 1: My, how rare for visitors to be stopped by our village's keeper.
Guard 2: It's supposed to be open to even those of low rank... I take it you hail from another island?
Lyria: Mm-hm. We're skyfarers, and we're still trying to find our way around here.
Guard 1: In that case, I guess I'd better explain.
The crew learns a little more about their situation from the guards.
Hiro: Our Shadowverse rank determines where we can live? Man, that is not cool...
Guard 1: This is a bronze-rank village. Besting us in a game of Shadowverse should give you just enough rank points to enter.
Hiro: Heh! All right then—you're on!
Hiro excitedly whips out his phone.
Guard 1: Sure thing, but this is going to be a tag battle. Who will you be teaming up with?
        1. Me.
        2. ...

        Choose: Me.
Hiro: A tag battle, huh... Sounds fun. Let's do this, (Captain)!

        Choose: ...
Vyrn: (Captain), Hiro showed you the ropes earlier. Why don't you give it a go?
Hiro: I've never done a tag battle myself, so I can't say for sure how we'll do...
Hiro: But it's worth a shot, (Captain)!
        Continue 1
Guard 2: Okay then, let's get started. You be the judge.
Soldier: Understood. Assessing new user's rank status.
        Guard 2: Here goes.

        All Four: Shadowverse... Showdown!
And so the tag battle to enter the village begins.
The guards prove rather formidable, dragging the battle on for some time.
Guard 2: I play a follower with the Ward ability, and end my turn.
Hiro: All righty, my turn! Draw!
Hiro: (As long as that follower with Ward is in play, I won't be able to launch attacks against its leader or other followers...)
Hiro: (Yet at the same time, I might wanna strengthen our defense...)
Ruminating over the cards in play and his hand, Hiro ponders his next move.
In tag battles, each of the four players gets their own turn.
        Gran is the Main Character

Meaning that Hiro has to keep (Captain)'s turn in mind while deciding what to do.
        Djeeta is the Main Character

Meaning that Hiro has to keep (Captain)'s turn in mind while deciding what to do.
(Captain), too, is trying to formulate a plan of action.
In the captain's possession is one particularly powerful card that can clear the area of all followers.
        Hiro: (Captain)?
        The two trade knowing glances.
Hiro: All right! I'm gonna trust ya, (Captain)!
Hiro: I play Draconic Fervor! It gives me one play point orb and lets me draw two cards!
Hiro: I also play Imprisoned Dragon, and end my turn!
Guard 1: Hm, you don't seem too concerned about our followers. You're going to lose at this rate...
Hiro: Heh, we'll see about that! I wouldn't count my chickens yet if I were you!
        (Captain) and Hiro smile boldly.
Guard 1: Sounds like you have something in mind...
Guard 1: Well, don't expect me told back! Draw!
Guard 1: I play White General! I use its ability to increase the Veteran Lancer's attack by 2!
Guard 1: Now for an all-out attack against your followers! Go get 'em!
        Vyrn: ...!
They've got no followers left. That can't be good...
Lyria: Hang in there, you two!
Guard 1: That's it for my turn. What you do next will decide the outcome of our battle—just how will you wriggle out of this one?
Pressured by the guard, (Captain) grows tense and pauses for a moment.
Hiro: You've got this, (Captain)! I believe in you!
Responding to Hiro with a firm nod, (Captain) chooses one card in particular.
        1. Lyria!

        Choose: Lyria!
        Follower Lyria: ...
The moment Follower Lyria goes into play, the crystal by her chest shines bright and a giant shadow looms over her.
        Proto Bahamut: ...!
Hiro: Whoa... That is one crazy follower...
Proto Bahamut's flames scorch the enemy's play area and also deal damage to the guards and soldier.
        Guard 2: Gwaah!
Guard 2: What power... I've never seen anything like this!
Hiro: Way to turn the tables, (Captain)!
With most of the enemy followers removed from play, things are looking up for (Captain) and Hiro.
The decisive blow from Proto Bahamut proves to be exactly what they need to score a win.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 1: Mysterious Voice - Episode 4

After learning from the guards that crystal slates are devices used to play Shadowverse, the crew enters the village and meets Kazuki and Kai, Hiro's friends. They hear that Mimori, their other friend, has also been transported to this world, and rush to the neighboring town to find her.

Soldier: Assessment complete. Conditions met, now assigning rank.
Guard 1: Whew... You guys were tough.
Hiro: I had a blast battling you guys! We should do it again sometime!
        Guard 2: Sure, our pleasure!
All present share a friendly handshake.
The soldier, having completed his task, returns to his post at the center of the gate and falls silent.
Vyrn: Hey, mister. What's up with that guy? I've been seeing soldiers just like him elsewhere on the island.
Guard 1: Huh? Oh, the keeper?
These soldiers, which the islanders call keepers, are stationed throughout the island to keep the peace.
In addition to patrolling the island, they also guard village and town entrances, making sure that only the qualified can pass through.
Guard 2: You notice how you just had your rank appraised? That rank is what they use to determine your eligibility for entry.
Hiro checks his phone and finds (Captain) and himself listed under bronze rank.
Hiro: Whoo! We did it, (Captain)! We went up a rank!
Guard 2: That's quite a particular crystal slate you're using.
        Hiro: Crystal slate? What's that?
Guard 1: It's the apparatus we use to play Shadowverse—here, like this one. It's practically a necessity if you plan to get anywhere on this island.
The guard shows the crew his slate, with a shape identical to the ones (Captain) and Ferry are carrying.
Guard 1: Everyone on the island has one.
The crew learns the true nature and proper name of the mysterious slates.
Guard 1: There are a select few who don't have access to a crystal slate.
Guard 1: They get around by always being near people who have one.
Guard 1: Getting one is almost like a rite of passage on this island.
Hiro: I gotcha. But if you ask me, Shadowverse should be accessible to everyone...
Thelonim: Hey! How would I get one of my own crystal slates?
Guard 1: Whoa! Give me a little space! What's your deal?
Thelonim: I tried handling one of those things, and it said I don't meet the conditions... But I wanna play too!
The guard keeps the pushy Thelonim at bay while responding.
Guard 1: I don't know the details either. But a keeper usually shows up to give out new slates.
Guard 2: If you haven't gotten yours yet, I suggest you wait for a keeper to hand you one.
Thelonim: So I'm pretty much useless here until that happens...
Devastated to learn that the conditions for being handed a crystal slate are unknown, Thelonim falls to his knees.
        Hiro: Chin up, Thelonim!
Hiro places both hands on his small shoulders and tries to cheer him up.
Hiro: Hang in there! Stay positive, and you'll get yours one day!
        Thelonim: Hiro!
Thelonim: Yeah, I'm not giving up just yet! I'll prove to the keeper that I'm a full-fledged hero!
        Hiro: That's the spirit!
The two share a fist bump, eliciting a smile from the others.
Guard 1: Hahaha. Well, you have your access to the village now. Congrats.
Guard 1: Oh, and I suppose I should mention there are three other kids who've found their way here too.
        Hiro: Other kids?
Guard 1: Uh-huh. One of them is in the neighboring town. And another two are in the village's rest area.
Guard 1: They seemed like good kids and are around the same age as you. Come to think of it, I think they had the same uniform too...
Hiro: You're kidding! It couldn't be...
        Bandana Boy: Hiiirooo!
        Hiro: Whoa!
Bandana Boy: Yooo! I thought I'd never see you again, man!
Hiro: Kazuki! You wound up here too?
Kai: H-Hiro! Wait, this can only mean...
Hiro: Kai too! How is it all three of us are here?
Kazuki: Heck if I know. There was this weird voice, and before I knew it... bam! Here I was.
Kai: I thought we might be dreaming or hallucinating, but seeing you and your reaction tells me this is all real.
Kazuki: You know how Kai is. He doesn't listen to a thing I say...
        Kai: Of course not.
Hiro: I'll introduce you, (Captain)! This here's Kazuki, and the other guy's Kai! We hang out together all the time!
And so the crew becomes acquainted with Hiro's friends.
The trio take some time to rejoice in their reunion.
Hiro: But I've gotta say, what a relief to find you guys! Did anyone else end up here?
Kai: That certainly is a possibility. Do you remember that voice, Hiro?
        Hiro: Voice?
Kai: Yes. The one that called out to us.
Strange Voice: Request. Now using admin privileges to execute program.
Strange Voice: Setting four for teleportation: Kazuki Shindo, Mimori Amamiya, Kai Ijuin, and Hiro Ryugasaki.
Strange Voice: Target positions confirmed. Proceeding with protocol.
        Kai: ...!
        My goodness...
        Kai: Gwaaah!
Kai: In addition to us three, Mimori Amamiya was also called.
Hiro: Wait, that means... Mimori could be on the island too!
Kazuki: Aw, beans... Man, what a far-out place we've come to...
Kazuki: We've got never-before-seen architecture, a talking doll—
        Vyrn: Doll?
Vyrn: Hey, you're not talkin' about me, are you?
        Hiro: Vyrn's no doll! He's a dragon!
        Kai: A dragon?
Thelonim: You guys know about dragons too?
Kai: I know of them, but they couldn't possibly exist in reality. At least that's what I've always told myself.
Kai: Yet I stand before one... And to doubt my own eyes would be nonsensical.
Kai: I can only conclude that we've come to an alternate world. That's the simplest way to make sense of things.
        Hiro: Sounds about right!
Kai: I am worried about Mimori Amamiya. We should commence our search for her at once.
Hiro: That reminds me... The guard by the gate mentioned another kid who recently came to the neighboring town!
Vyrn: We should go take a look!
Lyria: Right! Maybe we'll learn something about the primal beast too!
Hiro: Yeah! We'd better get a move on before it gets dark!
And so (Captain) and company leave the village and make their way to the town.
Town Keeper: Error. You need a minimum of silver rank to enter this area.
        Kazuki: What the...? Come on!
Kai: It appears there's a rank requirement for each area.
Town Keeper: Pass my trial, and I will grant all of you the necessary rank.
Town Keeper: Assessing aptitude for Runecraft player. Registered username: Kai Ijuin.
Kai: Hm, so that's how it works.
With a bold smile, Kai readies his phone.
Kai: Choosing me as your opponent, huh? Very well, I accept!
        Hiro: Go for broke, Kai!
Kai: Easy. I'll have this match finished in precisely seven turns!
Town Keeper: Opponent's consent confirmed. Beginning assessment.
        Keeper & Kai: Shadowverse... Showdown!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 2: Friends - Episode 1

After victory over a keeper, (Captain) and company enter town to find Mimori defending a boy named Resh from a thug. The thug is sent packing, and Mimori is reunited with Hiro, Kazuki, and Kai. Because Resh has a phone just like them, the others suspect he may be from Hiro's world and let him tag along.

Thelonim: That was too cool, Kai! You landed the finishing blow exactly on turn seven like you said!
Thelonim: But the biggest shocker was seeing that defeated follower come back into play via the Chrono Witch's power!
Kai's overwhelming victory gains the crew entry into town.
Somewhat taken aback by Thelonim's bubbling enthusiasm, Kai pushes his glasses upward.
Kai: W-well, I am a genius among geniuses after all. It's only fitting that I won the battle with ease.
Thelonim: Slowly laying the groundwork that eventually culminates in an explosive magical maelstrom... You're like the great sage spoken of in so many fairy tales!
Kai: Haha! Thelonim, you're quite the keen observer to recognize my profound greatness!
Kazuki: Might wanna turn it down a notch, Kai.
Hiro: Hahah! It's thanks to Kai we got in here, so it's all good!
Ferry: Well... What now? How should we go about finding this Mimori person?
Being reminded of what they've come to do, (Captain) and company survey their surroundings.
Man's Voice: Hehehe... Think you can take down this one? Turn end!
Girl's Voice: No! Not that follower!
Hiro: That voice... It's Mimori! Let's go, guys!
They follow Hiro to a corner in town, where a crowd has gathered.
Thug: What's wrong, miss? That all you got?
        Girl with Hairpin: ...!
        I'm not done yet!
(Captain) and company push through the crowd to find a thug and a lone girl facing off in Shadowverse.
The girl appears to be shielding a boy behind her as she stands up to the thug.
        ???: ...
Lyria: Could that girl be the Mimori we're looking for?
Thelonim: Looks like she's in trouble! At this rate...
        Hiro: You've got this, Mimori!
Immediately recognizing the voice cheering her on, Mimori grows wide-eyed.
Mimori: Hiro? Kazuki and Kai too? What are you all doing here?
Hiro: We believe in you, Mimori! Go for the win!
        Mimori: Thanks!
Thug: Now's not the time to be turning away, little miss. Look at the play area!
        Mimori: I know... But...
Mimori: But I'm not giving up!
Mimori: I use Nature's Guidance to return a follower to my hand and draw a card!
        Mimori: There!
Thug: Hah! Like that's gonna make a difference!
        Mimori: ...!
        I play four Fairies!
Thug: Bah! Just throw in the towel already! There's no way you can—
Mimori: I grant them the protection of the forest!
        Thug: What the...?
        Mimori: Now! Brilliant Fairy!
        Thug: What's this?
Mimori: Brilliant Fairy strengthens all Fairies in play and gives them Storm.
        Thug: Aw, crap!
A gale of light surrounds each of the empowered Fairies.
Mimori: Followers with Storm can attack on the same turn they're played!
        Mimori: Fly, my Fairies!
        Thug: Gwaaah!
        Mimori: Whew.
        Hiro: Way to go, Mimori!
        Mimori: Mm!
Mimori walks up to the defeated thug and extends a hand.
Mimori: That was a good game! But please refrain from doing bad things from now on.
The thug hesitates for a second before grabbing Mimori's hand.
Thug: Hmph! All right, I admit it—you play a mean Forestcraft game.
Hiro: Nice work, Mimori! You kicked butt back there!
Mimori: Thanks... Everyone cheering me on gave me the boost in confidence I needed.
Mimori turns around to the boy she was protecting and speaks in a gentle voice.
Mimori: Everything's okay now. I won!
        ???: ...
        Mimori: Resh?
        Resh: Why?
        Mimori: Huh?
Resh: Why did you save me?
Mimori: I saw a bad man giving you trouble, and I couldn't stop myself.
Mimori: Sorry if I ended up causing more trouble...
Resh: Negative. The damage from that man resulted from unexpected input.
Resh: Mechanisms for dealings with such irregularities are undefined.
Resh: However, I appraise your actions to be beneficial to me.
Vyrn: C'mon now, little guy... Shouldn't you be showing some gratitude first?
        The boy responds in kind.
Resh: Understood. Mimori Amamiya. I thank you for your assistance.
        Mimori: Why, you're welcome!
Hiro: So you fought to protect this kid, huh.
Mimori: Mm-hm. That man took one look at Resh's crystal slate and approached really aggressively.
Mimori: I reacted without thinking and said I'd play him in a game of Shadowverse.
        Resh: ...
All turn their eyes to the object in Resh's hand.
Kai: He has a proper phone, not one of those crystal slates... It makes me wonder if he wound up here like us.
Hiro: Maybe he's a Shadowverse Grand Prix contestant too? Why don't you come with us, Resh?
        Resh: Me? With you?
        1. If you don't mind, that is.
        2. Traveling in groups is safer.

Choose: If you don't mind, that is.
Ferry: Things seem to be different here from your world. We should be able to help you get around.

Choose: Traveling in groups is safer.
Lyria: The more, the merrier! Well?
        Continue 1
        Resh: ...
Hiro: We might be rivals for the grand prix, but I think banding together for now would do us a lot of good. Whaddya say?
Resh: Understood. I perceive your suggestion as beneficial to me.
        Lyria: Meaning...
Hiro: Meaning Resh is cool with it! Glad to have you with us!
And so Mimori and Resh join the entourage.
They decide on their next course of action.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 2: Friends - Episode 2

The entourage splits into groups. Mimori, Ferry, and Lyria's group enters a cafe where everyone is enjoying matches of Shadowverse. Mimori uses this opportunity to explain the game to Ferry, and also to bond with her two new friends.

Hiro's friend, Mimori Amamiya, and the boy Resh, who likely comes from the same world as them, cross paths with the crew.
        They now travel together.
Kai: Before we start gathering info about the primal beast, we may be better off learning a little more about this town first.
Kazuki: Yeah. Could be risky walkin' around without knowin' what's up, ya know?
        Lyria: ...
        Mimori: Lyria? Is everything okay?
Lyria: Um... What do you say we split for now to find out more about the town?
Ferry: Yeah. At the very least, we should have a grasp of where's where in town.
Vyrn: Good idea. We also oughta let Rackam know what's happened so far.
Vyrn: All right then. We'll meet back up at the inn when the sun sets!
And so a jaunt through town ensues for all.
Lyria: Wow! Everything looks so fancy in here!
Lyria, Ferry, and Mimori stop by a cafe for a bite.
Mimori: Hehe. A lady who was showing me around earlier told me about this place.
Mimori: The food they serve here is different from the usual and is a big hit among girls, apparently.
Ferry: Yeah, most of the other customers seem to be girls.
The three notice a large gathering of girls gushing over Shadowverse.
Lyria: Wow. Just goes to show how popular Shadowverse is on this island.
Ferry: Yeah, I'm starting to see what a big part of their life it is... I'm still trying to get used to it.
Mimori: But Shadowverse is practically unheard of outside the island, right?
Lyria: Yes. We learned of the game only after coming here.
Ferry: Hiro mentioned that in your world, Shadowverse is as common as night and day.
Mimori: That's true... I think pretty much everyone loves playing it.
        Ferry: I see...
Feeling somewhat abashed, Ferry averts her gaze before continuing.
Ferry: (Captain) and I were actually registered as leaders earlier.
Ferry: It was kind of fun watching a bunch of people play, but I don't know where to start myself...
Ferry: We've been caught up in things this whole time, so I haven't had the chance to learn the basics yet... And I was hoping I could ask you...
Ferry produces the crystal slate that has her name registered.
Mimori: I'd be glad to! Can you show me your deck?
        Ferry: Right. Of course.
Mimori: Ooh... So you're a Shadowcraft player, I see.
        Ferry: Shadowcraft?
Mimori: The Shadowcraft class specializes in necromancy and mainly uses the undead as followers.
Mimori gives the lowdown on each card as she goes through Ferry's deck.
Ferry: Wow... You're knowledgeable not only about Forestcraft but Shadowcraft too.
Mimori: Ahaha... I wouldn't say I know it that well.
Mimori: I battled a Shadowcraft player once... And it was a match I'll never forget.
Mimori relates the experience to Ferry.
Her cheery enthusiasm puts a smile on Ferry's face.
Ferry: Sounds like you two made a real connection.
Mimori: Yeah... she's a very important person to me.
Mimori: Um, anyway! How about we do a practice battle!
Mimori: I think that's the best way to learn... Besides, I've been wanting to play with you!
        Ferry: Haha, thanks. Okay then...
Mimori: This is going to be fun!
        Ferry & Mimori: Shadowverse... Showdown!
Having paid close attention to the explanations earlier, Ferry is able to match Mimori blow for blow.
Mimori: Whew... That was a close one, but I managed!
Mimori: Okay, Ferry! I'm going to attack with my Fairies!
        Ferry: ...!
That brings my defense down to zero.... Looks like I've lost this one.
Ferry: Thanks for the match, Mimori. I think I have an understanding of this game now.
Although Ferry started the match unsure of herself...
Mimori's clear and thorough directions helped her mature into a proficient player.
Lyria: Wow... It was amazing watching you two go back and forth like that!
Mimori: Yeah! I'd even believe it if you told me you were a veteran player...
Ferry: Haha, I'm just lucky to have a good teacher.
Mimori: Oh, you're too nice. I'm nothing special really...
Lyria: I thought your explanations were really great too, Mimori! It made the battle that much more exciting to watch!
        Mimori: R-really? Ahaha... Thanks.
As Mimori's cheeks flush red with embarrassment, Ferry listlessly strokes her crystal slate in contemplation.
Ferry: I didn't think things could get so heated while sitting down.
Ferry: If Shadowverse existed in my world, I just know she would've been into it...
        Mimori: She?
Ferry: Oh, sorry... My sister. She was born with a frail body and spent most of her life bedridden.
Ferry: But if we had Shadowverse, surely she would've been able to play with her friends in another way.
Ferry goes on to tell Mimori about her upbringing.
Ferry: I had never left the island before meeting (Captain)'s crew.
Ferry: I knew so little about fun and games that I ended up learning so much from the children in the crew. I feel indebted to them.
Ferry: If only I had something I could teach them in return...
After thinking about it for a bit, Mimori is struck with a flash of inspiration.
Mimori: I have an idea! How about you and I work together to spread Shadowverse to everyone in the crew?
Mimori: It'll be that much more fun for you too if you can play among your friends!
Ferry ponders the thought for a second before nodding in agreement.
Ferry: That just might work. Especially if you're there too.
Mimori: And Lyria, if you're interested, that'd make three of us! You'll be able to play Shadowverse anytime, anywhere!
Lyria: Can I really? Yay, I can't wait!
Ferry: Sorry if I made things somewhat somber by bringing up my past. Would you mind telling us a little about your world, Mimori?
Lyria: Yeah, I'm interested too! There's bound to be plenty more fun and games we don't know about!
Mimori: Sure! Where should I start...?
Shadowverse becomes the impetus for the budding relationship between the three.
They continue shooting the breeze for a while after to get to know each other better.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 2: Friends - Episode 3

While strolling through town, Thelonim laments to Kazuki and Kai about how he couldn't get registered as a Shadowverse player. Kazuki lends Thelonim his phone and shows him the ropes in a mock battle with Kai.

While the girls are chatting away...
Thelonim, Kazuki, and Kai take a stroll through the shopping district.
Thelonim: So, Kazuki, what do you play as in Shadowverse?
        Kazuki: Huh?
Thelonim: You know like how Kai's Witchcraft and how Hiro's Dragoncraft?
Kazuki: Oh, you wanna know what class my deck is? I play Swordcraft!
Thelonim: Swordcraft? I didn't know that was a thing! Tell me about it!
Kazuki takes out his phone and puts his deck on display as Thelonim leans over with excitement.
Thelonim: Whoa! These are some awesome cards!
Kazuki: You can say that again! Swordcraft focuses on overwhelmin' the opponent with followers to launch an all-out offensive!
        Thelonim: Sounds pretty epic!
        Kazuki: You into Swordcraft?
Thelonim: It sounds like the perfect class to play for a hero's descendant like me!
Kazuki: That's the spirit! Sword-swingin' warriors are the best!
Taking note of their animated conversation, Kai breathes a deep sigh.
Kai: If you're that interested, why not play Shadowverse yourself?
        Thelonim: ...
Kai: Huh? Why the glum face?
        Thelonim: I don't have one...
        Kai: Don't have what?
Thelonim: I can't play Shadowverse without it... Something about me lacking the qualifications.
        Kai: ...
Kazuki: No way! Anybody and everybody's supposed to be able to play Shadowverse!
Thelonim: 'Cept the keeper won't acknowledge me. That's why...
Kai: That explains a lot... Sorry, I didn't know.
Thelonim: But no way in hell does that mean I've given up! Not in a million years!
Thelonim: I've decided I'm gonna keep going at it. That keeper's gonna acknowledge me and give me a crystal slate one day!
Kazuki gives Thelonim a reassuring pat on the shoulder to cheer him up.
Kazuki: How 'bout this? You can use my phone to play Shadowverse in the meantime!
        Thelonim: Huh?
Kazuki: The two of us can just act as a single player! There, problem solved. Just like that, baby!
        Thelonim: W-would that really work?
Kai: It certainly would. And I, genius among geniuses, shall be your opponent. Don't hold back.
        Thelonim: ...!
        Thanks a ton!
Kazuki: C'mon, Thelonim! We're gonna show Kai who's the boss!
Thelonim: Let's do this! I'm gonna get so good in Shadowverse that the keeper'll have no choice but to acknowledge me!
        Kai: Here I go!
Thelonim is filled with excitement as Kazuki, grinning from ear to ear, puts out a hand to start the match.
        The Three: Shadowverse... Showdown!
Thelonim: Kazuki, what's this card do?
Kazuki: It raises attack and defense of all allied followers by 1 when it comes into play!
Thelonim: Oh yeah? Hm, Kai has two followers in play... All right!
Thelonim is given control of the hand.
Wanting him to experience Shadowverse for himself, Kazuki offers only the bare minimum of advice.
Thelonim: First I'll play the Sage Commander to boost my followers' stats!
Thelonim: Now for a full-scale attack with all followers!
        Kai: Urgh!
Kazuki: Oof, now that's a lot of damage! He's almost done for...
Kai: Impressive... But this isn't over yet!
Kai: My turn! I play Crimson Sorcery to deal 3 damage to you!
Kai: Next, I'll play Blade Mage and use its Storm ability to attack you!
        Thelonim: Guh!
Hearing the sound of his defense decrease, Thelonim is devastated to realize that he's lost.
Thelonim: Aw, crud! I was so close too!
Kazuki: Nah, you did pretty all right for your first match! Tell him, Kai!
Kai: Agreed. You made good use of your various followers' abilities.
Kai: Your offensive maneuvering was also very fitting for a Swordcraft player.
Kai: If I'm going to be honest, you may have even more potential than Kazuki Shindo.
Kazuki: Aw, c'mon now. You could've left that last part out, Kai!
Kai: I merely spoke my mind.
Thelonim: Heheh! I guess I'm no longer a complete newbie when it comes to Shadowverse!
Kai: Yes, but you still have a long way to go. There's so much more to the game than simply attacking the enemy leader.
Kai: You have to be able to adapt, and perhaps focus on taking out their followers first or even strengthening your defenses when the situation calls for it.
Thelonim: There's a phrase for this kinda thing... Haste makes waste?
Kai: Well put. A good balance of offense and defense is the greatest lesson to be learned in Shadowverse.
Thelonim: My grandpa used to tell me all the time that rushing often creates problems.
Thelonim grows nostalgic and relates an event from his past.
Eager to prove his calling as a hero, Thelonim sought out a monster dwelling near his hometown.
Because the monster was tending to its children, it reacted violently to Thelonim's approach and left him with a severe wound.
Kazuki: That's nuts! At least you made it out in one piece...
Thelonim: I might not look it, but I'm pretty strong! Though I'll admit I didn't stand a chance against that monster...
Thelonim: That's when Grandpa first said it.
Thelonim: "Haste makes waste." Slow and steady wins out in the end.
Kai: Very well said. Please keep that advice in mind for your Shadowverse battles to come.
Kazuki: All right then. Let's go another round and focus on defense this time!
        Thelonim: Sure!
Thelonim: I hope I'm not being a bother...
Kazuki: No worries, man! Right, Kai?
Kai: I would have reservations about engaging in multiple battles with Kazuki Shindo... But with you, I feel I have something to gain as well.
Thelonim: Great! I'll give it my best shot!
Keeping Kai's advice in mind, Thelonim takes care to clear the field of enemy followers as the match proceeds.
Thelonim: Kai has 8 defense left... If I attack now... No, not yet!
Thelonim: Even the greatest of heroes knows to look before leaping! There's gotta be a safer option!
Thelonim: Kazuki! I'm using this next!
Kazuki: Good call! The Frontline General's Ward ability will keep ya safe!
        Kai: ...!
        Not bad...
Repressing his urge to attack, Thelonim chooses the defensive option.
Kai ends his next turn early, allowing Thelonim to safely launch an all-out offensive and secure victory.
        Kazuki: Booyah!
Thelonim: Huff... Huff... I-I did it...
Kai: Indeed, you've bested me. Brilliant decision-making on your part.
Thelonim: Letting the follower with Ward soak up damage so I can attack without repercussion the next round...
Thelonim: Swordcraft is just too cool! I'm loving it!
Kazuki: That was all you, Thelonim!
Thelonim: Hey. Can we have another match once I get my own crystal slate?
Kazuki: Sure! Maybe next time, we can play each other!
Kai: And I'll show you how a master genius strategizes!
Thelonim is elated to know they share his excitement.
Thelonim: Thanks... Shadowverse is such an incredible game!
The experience helps Thelonim grow into his role as a hero.
The three continue happily chatting away as they disappear into the hustle and bustle of town.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 2: Friends - Episode 4

(Captain), Vyrn, Hiro, and Resh spend some time together in the town square. Resh takes a curious interest in how everyone interacts with each other. After meeting up with the others later, he speaks of the gamemaster residing in the island's tower who is responsible for governing Shadowverse's rules.

(Captain) and Vyrn return to town after making a report to Rackam.
They spot Hiro and Resh seated in a corner of town and call out to them.
Hiro: Hey, guys! We're having a blast playing Shadowverse with random people in town!
Vyrn: That's what you were up to this whole time?
The town square is brimming with people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying Shadowverse.
Hiro: Sweet! So much competition to choose from!
Hiro: You guys should see how strong Resh is! He hasn't lost once yet!
        Vyrn: Oh yeah?
Resh: Affirmative. I do not lose.
Hiro: Hrm, pretty confident there! How 'bout you take me on?
Resh: Request denied. Now is not the time for that.
        Hiro: Huh? But why not?
Resh: Reason. A battle between the two of us should happen in a more fitting location.
        Hiro: You think so?
Hiro: I'm not sure I get it, but I'll be ready whenever you are!
Resh: Understood. The time will come.
Resh turns his attention to the crowds.
Vyrn: Everything okay? Somethin' catch your attention?
Resh: Observation. I was referencing battle records of the area.
Resh: Question. Why do people smile even when they lose?
        Hiro: Hm... Good question.
Hiro muses over it before responding.
Hiro: Win, lose... I guess it doesn't matter as long as you're having fun!
        Resh: Fun?
Hiro: I mean, losing doesn't feel good... but any serious game of Shadowverse is bound to be fun! And that's what counts in the end.
Hiro: Even when I lose, usually the thrill of the match is so good that all I want is to play another one!
Resh: Doubt. I view all Shadowverse battles as a means to determine skill level.
Resh: That is why I perceive happiness as an inappropriate emotional response to loss.
Hiro: I mean, I guess that's one way of looking at it.
Hiro: But the way I see it, after an epic clash, you just naturally come to an understanding with the other player—and that's always fun!
Hiro: That's the essence of Shadowverse!
Resh: Strange. I conclude the emotions of people to be unknowable.
Resh: Among those who harbor feelings of malice toward each other, some choose to stay together, while others will part ways over the most trivial of arguments.
Resh: Some shed tears of dismay, while others shed tears of joy.
Resh: Too often, there is no rhyme or reason to the actions people take.
Hiro: That's a real toughie. Kai might be able to answer your question better.
Seeing that Hiro is equally puzzled, Resh falls into silent contemplation.
Resh: Question. What do you think of Mimori Amamiya's actions?
        Hiro: Mimori?
Resh: Remembrance. Despite me being completely unrelated to her, she decided to help me.
Resh: Though the incident itself was an irregular one, it was within my manageable limits.
Resh: Thus I have no record of requesting her aid.
Resh: Yet she chose to rescue me of her own accord. Why?
Taking note of Resh's genuine curiosity, (Captain) and Hiro look to each other.
Hiro: I mean, it's only natural to want to help someone in trouble.
Hiro: Heck, I'd have done the same if I were her! You don't always need a reason to help others, right?
        Resh: ...
        (Captain) nods in agreement.
Resh: Understood. Some uncertainty remains, but I now have greater insight into people.
Hiro: Cool, glad we got that cleared up!
Hiro is pleased to see the look of doubt fade away from Resh's countenance.
Vyrn: "Greater insight into people"? You know, you say some pretty weird things for a kid.
Resh: Obvious. I have no past memory of interacting with other people.
        Vyrn: Uhh... You're kidding, right?
Resh: Truth. My default values are set to ensure I do not interact with people any more than necessary.
        Hiro: Wait, whaaat? Default values?
Resh: Searching for synonyms... In other words, behavioral guidelines.
Vyrn: You sayin' you were born like that?
Resh lowers his gaze and goes quiet.
After a brief uncomfortable silence, Resh resumes speaking in his usual quiet tone.
Resh: Report. Being around you is a learning experience.
Resh: The reasoning for that is not entirely clear, but I appraise our interactions to be beneficial to me.
Resh: Request. I wish to know more about you all.
Resh: (Captain), Hiro Ryugasaki. There is something extraordinary about you two.
Resh: Suggestion. I propose we work toward improving our mutual affinity.
Hiro: Mutual affinity? You mean, like, become friends?
Hiro: We're already past that! Otherwise we wouldn't be hanging out together!
Resh: Doubt. Can an outsider be so easily redefined as a friend after a short amount of time spent together?
Hiro: Hahah! That's what friends are about! Probably!
Resh chews over the definition of "friend" some more before nodding lightly.
Resh: Understood. You have my sincere gratitude.
Vyrn: No need to be so formal—a simple "thanks" should suffice!
        Resh: ...
        Resh: Ah... Th-thanks.
Hiro: There we go! You're welcome, Resh!
Not minding his awkward mannerisms in the least, Hiro is all smiles.
Just then, a loud rumbling rises from their midst.
Resh: Observation. That sound resulted from a contraction of Hiro Ryugasaki's stomach.
        Hiro: Aw, man... I'm starving...
Resh: About 300 meters south of here is a snack stall.
Vyrn: Oh yeah? Let's go grab a bite there then!
Hiro: Couldn't agree more! Lead the way, Resh!
Resh: Understood. I shall be the guide.
The four, now better acquainted with each other, leave the town square.
They sate their hunger at the food stall before continuing their stroll through town.
As the sun sets, each group begin making their way back to the inn.
Everyone gathers at a table in the establishment's dining hall for dinner.
Mimori: Wow... What should I eat first...?
        Lyria: Let's eat everything, Mimori!
Ferry: Haha... Just be careful not to get carried away and spill something.
Thelonim: I am Thelonim, descendant of a great hero and an unyielding Swordcraft warrior!
Kazuki: Whoo! That's the way to tell 'em!
Kai: Hm, this flavor is unfamiliar to me... I wonder what spices they use.
        Resh: ...
Resh: Surprise. I fail to grasp the situation.
Vyrn: Huh? Something botherin' you, Resh?
        Resh is looking straight ahead.
Resh: Change. In such a short amount of time, I have detected such a drastic increase in companionship.
Resh: It has reached a resoundingly high level.
Vyrn traces his line of sight.
There he sees Mimori and the others happily chatting among themselves.
Vyrn: Well, Lyria did say they had a lot of fun together earlier.
Hiro: Yeah... Maybe they got to know each other better through Shadowverse!
Resh opens his eyes wide in response.
Resh: This surge in companionship over a short time frame. Quite the psychological shift. Referencing cases of emotion sparking positive change.
Resh: Comparing current example with others. That spark is greatly accelerated by the presence of Shadowverse.
Resh: Evidence shows that environment plays a huge role. In the case of an inconducive environment...
Vyrn: Uhh, Resh? What is it you're mumblin' about?
Resh: Share. (Captain), I hereby grant you access to the data.
Resh places a map of Kainourios Island in front of (Captain).
        He points to its center.
Resh: In the central part of this island is one known as the master.
The dining hall suddenly becomes so silent that a pin drop would echo.
Vyrn: The master? Tell us about the guy.
        Resh: Well...
        Boorish Man: The master, eh?
A man seated at a nearby table suddenly gets close to Resh.
Boorish Man: You sayin' you know him?
Resh: Affirmative. I am cognizant of him.
The moment Resh responds, others in the dining hall excitedly rush the crew.
Excited Girl: No way! Someone in this town actually knows the master?
Ruddy-Faced Thug: Hey, tell us what the grand prize is for beating the master!
(Captain) and company are unnerved by the sudden disturbance.
        ???: Quieeet!
All eyes turn toward the source of the voice.
Elder: The master... Hohoho, it's been so long since I've last heard of him.
Vyrn: What's the big fuss over this master guy?
Elder: Master... He is otherwise known as the gamemaster.
Elder: He is the greatest Shadowverse player on the island. He has an undefeated winning streak and even governs the rules behind the game!
It's said that anyone who can defeat the gamemaster will have all their wishes granted and dominate the skies.
Elder: But to even challenge him, you must first prove your strength by overcoming numerous trials.
Elder: It is impossible to know the master's location from our low-ranking village.
        Elder: Who are you, really?
        Resh: ...
Ferry: Um... What does our rank have anything to do with information about the master?
Elder: Access to information on this island is handled by rank level.
Towns of higher rank provide a higher standard of living and are privy to more info.
Though it doesn't affect most islanders, there are merchants who thrive by the information trade.
Elder: The fact that you know the master suggests you possess exceptional talent.
Elder: Keep going on your path, young one. I look forward to the day when your name is known all throughout the island.
With those words, the smiling elder shuffles off.
After the crowds disperse, the first to speak up is Hiro.
Hiro: An undefeated player, huh... I wonder what he's like.
Kai: Hiro... Really now, is that the only thing that stood out to you?
Hiro: I mean, come on! We're talking about the greatest Shadowverse player on the entire island!
Ferry: He governs the rules too, the elder said...
Lyria: If that's true, maybe he knows something about the island's primal beast.
Vyrn: Hey, Resh. How do you know about the master anyway?
        Resh: ...
Resh: Coincidence. I heard merchants speaking about him while investigating the island.
Resh: The only thing I know of this person called the master is his location.
Following Resh's line of sight, (Captain) turns to the map.
A large tower lies in the island's center. What could possibly be waiting for the crew there?
Resh turns his eyes away from the map.
Resh: Hiro, (Captain). We wish to know more about you.
His low mutter fades into the din of the restaurant before it reaches anyone's ears.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 3: Seeking the Gamemaster - Episode 1

The tower housing the gamemaster is situated in the center of the largest town on the island. Upon arrival at the metropolis, Kazuki is chosen to face the keeper and wins the match. Asking around reveals that the most exceptional players are granted the right to challenge the gamemaster, but those who've entered the tower were never heard from again. The entourage heads for the tower to learn more.

On Kainourios Island is a gamemaster who governs Shadowverse.
This person may very well know something about the island's primal beast.
(Captain) and company now make it their goal to reach the tower where he is said to reside.
According to info Resh heard from a merchant, the tower lies in the epicenter of the island's largest, most prosperous town.
Kazuki: Yo, check it out. There's another one.
Kazuki points to a keeper guarding an imposing gate.
Hiro: We've gotta battle the keeper to get inside, right? Let's go for it!
Metropolis Keeper: Warning. This is a gold-rank area. Entry is forbidden to those without the prerequisite rank.
Hiro: We've got business here! If we beat you in Shadowverse, let us through!
Metropolis Keeper: Request approved. Verifying data...
Metropolis Keeper: Reassessing aptitude of low-ranking player. Registered name: Kazuki Shindo.
Kazuki: Low-ranking player? What's that supposed to mean?
Kai: Apparently it's judged you to be inexperienced.
Kazuki: Grr! I mean, that may be true...
Thelonim: No way! I know just how skilled you are, Kazuki! You can do this!
Kazuki: Thanks for having my back, Thelonim! Looks like it's time to prove myself, ya know?
Metropolis Keeper: Consent confirmed. Beginning assessment.
Kazuki readies his phone to face off against the keeper.
        Kazuki: No mercy, baby!
        Keeper & Kazuki: Shadowverse... Showdown!
Kazuki gets the first turn and wastes no time making a move.
Kazuki: I play Quickblader, and use its Storm ability to attack the leader on the same turn!
        Metropolis Keeper: ...
Thelonim: Whoo! Kazuki gets in the first hit!
Kai: Not a bad start, but this match has only just begun.
While the others watch, Kazuki brings out follower after follower and gradually whittles down the keeper's defense.
(Captain) and company are confident that Kazuki's victory is assured, but things take a sudden turn.
Metropolis Keeper: My turn. I play Nature's Guidance, allowing me to return an allied follower to my hand and draw a card.
Metropolis Keeper: I play Fairy Beast, which restores my defense equal to the number of cards in my hand.
Kazuki: Aw, nuts! He's back to full defense!
The keeper, now having restored his defense, launches a punishing counteroffensive.
Metropolis Keeper: I play two 0-cost Fairies and a Rhinoceroach, and attack with the latter.
        Kazuki: Gwuh!
Kai: Oh no... He's completely lost the lead! At this rate...
Thelonim: It's all right! It's nothing Kazuki can't handle!
Despite losing a fair amount of defense and followers, Kazuki continues to put up a good fight.
And now, it is Kazuki's turn.
Kai: I cooould attack, but there's a follower with Ward in play. Things are looking a bit sketchy for me here, to be honest...
As (Captain) and company watch with bated breath, Kazuki draws the card that will determine his fate.
        Kazuki: ...!
        Here we go!
Kazuki: (Victorious Blader... This'll reduce damage to both me and my followers...)
Kazuki: (And if I play Jeno, Levin Vanguard, that'll take care of his follower with Ward!)
As Kazuki chooses the cards to play, he recalls an earlier conversation.
Thelonim: Even the greatest of heroes knows to look before leaping! There's gotta be a safer option!
Kazuki: (This is the home stretch, Kazuki Shindo! Don't blow it!)
Kazuki: I'll get my chance! I know it!
Kazuki: Let's go, Victorious Blader! Show 'em what you've got!
        Victorious Blader: ...
Kazuki: I also play Veteran Lancer, and end my turn!
With his signature card and a follower with Ward in his play area, Kazuki ends his turn.
Metropolis Keeper: My turn. I eliminate your Veteran Lancer with my Ancient Elf.
        Kazuki: ...!
Metropolis Keeper: I play Glimmering Wings and draw a card.
Metropolis Keeper: I also play a Rhinoceroach and evolve it.
Thelonim: Oh, crud! That thing's got 4 attack!
Metropolis Keeper: Next, I'll use the Rhinoceroach to attack you directly.
The Rhinoceroach bellows out a thunderous roar and charges toward Kazuki.
        Thelonim: N-no! Kazuki!
Thelonim lets out a frantic scream, but Kazuki's devil-may-care grin suggests he still has a fighting chance.
Kazuki: I'm still in it, Thelonim! My Victorious Blader's gonna take the wind out of his sails!
Kazuki: So that reduces the damage dealt by 3, baby!
        Thelonim: I-incredible!
Kazuki: What you just saw was my trump card!
With an extravagant flourish, Kazuki plays his next card.
Kazuki: Here's my chance! Jeno, Levin Vanguard—attack the follower with Ward!
Kazuki: And not only that—finish him off, Victorious Blader!
Metropolis Keeper: Victorious Blader has dropped my defense to 0, resulting in my loss. Kazuki Shindo's victory confirmed.
Metropolis Keeper: Assessment complete. You satisfy the requirements for gold rank.
Kazuki: That's how it's done, baby! Woot, woot!
The moment the keeper falls to his knees, the crew runs up to Kazuki to celebrate.
Vyrn: Talk about an epic comeback! I never knew Shadowverse could get that intense!
Kazuki: Heh! Just goes to show what I can do when the ball's in my court!
While everyone is showering Kazuki with praise, Resh stands alone some distance away, dumbstruck at the match's outcome.
Resh: Surprise. Your chances of victory were to close to zero.
Resh: Question. How did you win?
Kazuki: Heh! It's all thanks to you guys cheerin' me on, ya know?
Kazuki: I dunno how things would've turned out if I was alone, but having you guys out there really helped push me through!
Resh: Strange. The information I possess appears inadequate for comprehending that logic. However...
Still having some doubt, Resh gives a faint nod.
Resh: Praise. Your prowess in battle far exceeded my expectations.
Vyrn: Yeah... Tell him how much butt he kicks!
Resh: Confusion. I lack the proper verbiage.
Hiro: No need to think hard on it. Just say whatever comes to mind like we do.
        Resh: ...
Trying his best to mimic the others, Resh gives it a go.
        Resh: Kazuki Shindo. Nice work.
        Kazuki: Boosh! Thanks, man!
Kazuki flashes Resh a beaming smile. Feeling something well up inside, the boy clutches his chest.
Resh: Recording. This must be the effect of people's emotions.
Resh is unaware of the warmth present in his own voice.
With the keeper bested, the crew now has a new rank.
They continue into town in cheery spirits, eliciting curious glances from the residents.
Mimori: I thought this town would be crowded when I heard how big it is, but that doesn't seem to be the case...
Lyria: Everyone here looks so serious that it almost scares me...
The townspeople, many playing Shadowverse, have a menacing air about them.
        Cheery Man: You there, kid!
        Kazuki: Me?
Cheery Man: Yeah! You just battled the keeper, right?
Cheery Man: Man, I can't remember the last time someone fought the keeper! That was one heck of a battle!
Cheery Man: You interested in taking me on? I wanna see what you've got!
        Kazuki: Hah! You're on!
Kazuki readily accepts the challenge from the cheery resident.
Kazuki: Sweet! That was pretty close, but I came out on top!
Cheery Man: Not bad at all! It's no wonder you're the first person to beat the keeper in years!
Kai: Years? I guess this town doesn't get many visitors?
Cheery Man: Residents with too many losses on record get kicked out. But there aren't enough new people coming in to take their place.
Ferry: Such a harsh world... That explains why we haven't seen many people around.
Cheery Man: I take it you guys are here for permission to challenge the master?
Kai: Indeed, we have business with the master... But what do you mean by permission?
Cheery Man: You must have the right qualifications to enter the tower where the gamemaster resides.
That privilege is granted on occasion to exceptional players within gold-rank areas.
Thelonim: The elder in the village mentioned proving our strength. I guess this is what he meant.
Vyrn: So there are people who've actually played against him, huh? What's he like?
Cheery Man: Who knows. Those who've entered the tower have never come back.
Lyria: That... doesn't sound very reassuring...
Kazuki: What happened to those people?
Cheery Man: I often wonder the same thing myself. Word is once you enter, there's no coming back out.
Cheery Man: But if I had to guess, I'd say they're living the high life in some far-off town!
Cheery Man: Good luck whatever you do, guys! You've got my blessing!
The cheery man waves goodbye before challenging another resident to a game of Shadowverse.
Ferry: This gamemaster's sounding more and more fishy.
Kai: I find it hard to believe no one's ever come back... There must be some trick to it.
Vyrn: Why don't we go see what the tower looks like for ourselves?
Vyrn: Maybe we'll even learn something about the folks who've faced off against the gamemaster before.
The mystery behind the elusive gamemaster grows ever deeper.
Where do his challengers disappear off to? And who is the gamemaster really?
Eager to unmask the truth, the crew makes for the tower looming over the town.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 3: Seeking the Gamemaster - Episode 2

Placing a phone into a depression on the tower's wall opens up the main gate. The entourage enters with caution. A siren sounds, calling for a Forestcraft aptitude screening, which is essentially a trial that must be cleared using the provided hand—a task that Mimori accomplishes with aplomb.

(Captain) and company arrive at the tower. Its entrance gate is firmly shut.
Try as they might, they cannot pry the gate open.
Thelonim: Huff... Huff... Not even my heroic strength is making a difference...
Lyria: Hm... I guess getting permission to enter is the only way we'll be getting in.
Kai: But there is no telling when those permissions will next be granted.
Kazuki: So we basically gotta play the waiting game till somethin' happens? Meh...
(Captain) and company are at their wits' end.
Thelonim: Huh? (Captain)! Check out this spot on the wall!
Thelonim: There's a rectangular-shaped depression. Maybe the trick to getting inside has something to do with this?
Lyria: It looks like something fits in it...
Mimori: It seems about the same size as our phones and crystal slates.
Mimori's observation about this hollowed-out part of the tower wall rings true.
(Captain) takes out a crystal slate and places it into the depression.
        Navi System: Error. Unauthorized user.
Vyrn: (Captain)'s is no good. What if we try Mimori's?
Mimori: I'm not sure it'd make any difference...
(Captain) takes out the crystal slate.
And Mimori puts in her phone next.
Navi System: Non-standard device confirmed. User verification complete.
Navi System: Unlocking door for special-exception user.
A low, rumbling sound fills the area as the tower gate opens up.
Mimori: Wow, I can't believe it worked...
Mimori: It called me a special-exception user though...
        Kai: How strange...
Kai: It's as if the system knows we're poking around here without going through the official channels.
Kai: Stay alert, everyone. There's no telling what lies inside.
Kazuki: Yooo! Check out how big it is in there! Adventure time, baby!
Thelonim: Whoa... That old, musty look makes it feel like some kind of villain's castle!
Hiro: What are we waiting for? Let's get inside already!
Kai: Hold it! Keep your eyes peeled for traps!
In contrast to the vigilant Kai, the excitedly curious Hiro, Kazuki, and Thelonim run straight ahead.
The others exercise caution as they step inside.
        Lyria: It's pitch-black in here...
Vyrn: Without some kinda light, getting through this tower's gonna be tough...
After making their way halfway inside the main hall, the gate behind them shuts down.
Thelonim: Ack! What the... How's that happening?
Kai: Like I said, this could be a trap—ngh!
        Ferry: Oh my...
As their surroundings light up, the crew and friends find themselves in a completely different room.
Navi System: New challengers confirmed. Beginning Forestcraft aptitude screening.
A Shadowverse play area appears before the crew.
It appears to be a reconstruction of a battle in session.
Navi System: Please secure victory within this turn by using the cards provided.
Navi System: Failure to complete the task within the time limit will result in the challengers being eliminated.
Kazuki: Whoa, hold up a sec! I dunno if I like the sound of that...
Resh: Conjecture. Based on the information that previous challengers have never returned from the tower—
Kazuki: Y-you don't gotta go there, man! Everything should be fine as long as we win, right?
Navi System: Verbal utterances from anyone other than the chosen respondent is a rule violation and will result in disqualification.
Thelonim: So basically, we can't cheer or offer any advice?
Thelonim: I don't like the sound of this!
Navi System: The respondent shall be Forestcraft player Mimori Amamiya.
        Mimori: M-me?
Navi System: The time limit is two minutes. Beginning Forestcraft screening.
A timer appears before the crew and begins ticking down.
        Mimori: Oh no, no, no...
Mimori turns pale for a second, but she quickly brushes away her fears to focus on the task at hand.
Mimori: Okay... It's all or nothing. I'll just do what I can!
While steadying her shaky legs, Mimori tries to get a grasp of the play she has to make.
Mimori: (I have three followers in my hand: one Rhinoceroach and two Fairies. But I'm already out of evolution points...)
The others watch with bated breath as the clock continues ticking down.
Mimori: Okay... I know what to do!
Mimori: I play Fairy Circle, putting two Fairies in my hand!
Mimori: Next, I play three Fairies and a Rhinoceroach!
Mimori: The Rhinoceroach gets an attack boost of 1 for each other card played that turn.
Mimori: So I attack the enemy's Goblin King with my Rhinoceroach for 5 damage!
Mimori: Now to bring out my other Rhinoceroach and have them both attack...
Mimori effectively brings down the opponent's defense to 0.
Navi System: Screening complete. The conditions have been met.
        Mimori: Phew... I did it.
        Lyria: That was incredible, Mimori!
Ferry: I'm surprised you were able to remain so calm in such a desperate situation.
Mimori: My heart was racing, but I managed somehow...
        1. That match gave me the shivers.
        2. I knew you'd pull through.

Choose: That match gave me the shivers.
Kai: Mimori Amamiya knows Forestcraft inside out. Our victory was assured from the get-go.
Kazuki: You were totally tearin' up, ya know?
Kai: I just had dust in my eyes!

Choose: I knew you'd pull through.
Hiro: Mimori knows everything there is to know about Forestcraft, so I knew we'd be okay!
Thelonim: Y-yeah! I wasn't concerned in the least!
Vyrn: Says the guy who was clinging to (Captain)'s leg...
        Continue 1
The group clears the first trial thanks to Mimori's efforts.
Their victory celebration is cut short by the navi system's next announcement.
Navi System: Forestcraft screening complete. Unlocking the next area.
Navi System: Please proceed through the door for your next trial.
A door leading further inside opens up, as if inviting the crew and friends.
Ferry: These trials must be what the village elder was referring to.
Ferry: Which means we have a few more to go through.
Each door they pass through closes behind them, forbidding them from turning back.
Though (Captain) and company have their reservations, they press on.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 3: Seeking the Gamemaster - Episode 3

Just as the entourage seems to have completed all the trials, Thelonim, who has no crystal slate of his own, is chosen as a respondent. Employing everything he learned from Kazuki and Kai earlier, Thelonim triumphs and is given his own crystal slate. Resh goes quiet, surprised at this turn of events.

Kai: I end my turn... or so you thought! Dimension Shift gives me another turn!
Kai: I use Blade Mage to attack and finish off my opponent!
Navi System: Screening complete. The conditions have been met.
        Another room, another trial.
Runecraft specialist Kai clears his trial with plenty of time remaining.
        Hiro: Whoo! You rock, Kai!
Kai: But of course, Hiro... I do indeed rock when it really counts!
They press on, hoping that the next trial can be cleared just as easily.
Navi System: New challengers confirmed. Beginning Shadowcraft aptitude screening.
Navi System: The respondent shall be Shadowcraft player Ferry.
Ferry: Me? I'm not feeling very confident, but all that practice with Mimori earlier should come in handy.
Mimori: Ferry! You can do this!
Ferry's heart is aflutter throughout the trial, but she clears it just fine. The crew is relieved.
        Ferry: Phew, that was tense...
Ferry: And now the next door's open. Let's get going.
Kazuki: How many have we got to go? Think I'll get a shake at it too?
Kai: Judging from the pattern so far, it looks like each class is being vetted. So you may get your chance yet.
Kazuki: Guh... I'm not sure I'm up for it, ya know?
Although not entirely sure what lies in store ahead, (Captain) and company press on.
Navi System: New challengers confirmed. Beginning Dragoncraft aptitude screening.
Navi System: The respondent shall be Dragoncraft player Hiro Ryugasaki.
Hiro: Looks like I'm up! Bring it on!
Vyrn: Geez, nothing ever gets him down, huh...
Mimori: That's our Hiro. Honestly, it's a bit reassuring to see him act the same even in a place like this...
        Resh: ...
Hiro: And... that's game! Let's keep going!
Hiro effortlessly clears his trial. (Captain) and friends push onward.
Navi System: Beginning Dragoncraft aptitude screening.
        Thelonim: Wha? Dragoncraft again?
        Hiro: That means...
Navi System: The respondent must secure victory within this turn by using the cards provided.
Navi System: Additional condition: Use Lyria, Azure Maiden to deal the finishing blow.
Kai: An additional condition? That's new. Wait, that card name...
        Gran is the Main Character

        All eyes turn to (Captain).
        Djeeta is the Main Character

        All eyes turn to (Captain).
The system chooses the captain as the respondent.
Ferry: It's as if the system knew in advance that (Captain) would be coming.
Kai: (Captain)'s the only player with that card... Who could the master possibly be?
Though shocked by the particulars of this additional condition, (Captain) manages to clear the trial.
Navi System: The next trial will be the last. Please proceed.
Mimori: Just one more? Kazuki's the only one of us who hasn't gone yet.
Vyrn: Here's your chance to shine, buddy! Make it good!
Kazuki: Leave it to me, baby!
Kai: I see you have the shakes, Kazuki Shindo.
Kazuki: N-nah, you ain't feelin' me right!
A wave of relief washes over (Captain) and friends, content to know that this series of trials will soon come to an end.
It helps Kazuki remain calm and collected for his trial.
Navi System: Screening complete. The conditions have been met.
Kazuki: Hoo, boy... I'll be honest. I was freakin' out back there, ya know?
Kai: It looks like we can finally leave this place.
However, (Captain) and friends begin to grow restless as nothing happens for a while. Until the system voice continues.
Navi System: Mismatch detected between battle record and screening results. Initiating probe.
Navi System: Mismatch details... Battle record confirmed for an unregistered crystal slate user.
Navi System: Name: Thelonim. Access will be granted upon successful completion of the trial.
        Thelonim: ...!
Kai: Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that. Thelonim, are you okay?
After a brief silence, Thelonim lifts his downward gaze and responds with gusto.
Thelonim: You bet I am! It's a hero's job to save the day after all!
Thelonim: I'll plow through this and take us all to see the master!
Thelonim's unwavering resolve is evident in his countenance.
(Captain) urges him forward with a thumbs-up gesture.
Navi System: Respondent's consent confirmed. Beginning Swordcraft aptitude screening.
Navi System: Use the cards provided to secure victory within two turns.
Navi System: The time limit is three minutes. You may begin.
And so the clock begins ticking.
Thelonim has a Cursed General in play.
The opponent also has one follower in play.
Thelonim: They have 17 defense, and I have to bring them down in two turns...
Thelonim stares at his hand while muttering to himself.
(Captain) and friends are on tenterhooks, sweat beading down their foreheads.
Thelonim: (Hm... No, that play wouldn't work. I need to be able to attack!)
Thelonim: (Think, Thelonim, think... A hero always has a plan! I just have to figure out what that is.)
Thelonim: (When there's a will, there's a way! Haste makes waste, as Grandpa would always say...)
        Thelonim reaches an epiphany.
        Thelonim: I've got it!
Thelonim: I play an Assassin to give Storm to my Cursed General!
Thelonim: The Cursed General grants Storm to any allied Officer followers coming into play.
Thelonim: I use my Assassin to attack the enemy leader and end my turn! What will you do now?
The opponent removes Thelonim's Assassin from play.
And now comes Thelonim's second turn.
Thelonim: I play two Gelt, Vice Captains! Since I have a Commander card in play, they each gain +1 to attack!
Thelonim: Next I play Snipper Gardener! It gains +1 to attack and defense since I have a Commander card in play!
Thelonim: And every one of these followers has Storm thanks to Cursed General's ability!
        Resh: ...!
Thelonim: I evolve my Cursed General! This is it!
Thelonim: I'm going in for the win! Attaaack!
Thelonim accomplishes his goal, reducing the opponent's defense to 0.
Navi System: Screening complete. The conditions have been met.
Vyrn: Hip-hip-hooray! Way to go, Thelonim!
Kazuki: I had no doubt in my mind, Thelonim! That's our hero!
Thelonim: Ehehe! Just trying to live up to my name!
Thelonim: A hero surpasses all obstacles and triumphs in the end!
Vyrn and Kazuki run up to Thelonim, reveling in his victory.
Resh: Surprise. I did not expect an unauthorized player to solve the problem.
Kai: I'll admit I was quite nervous myself, seeing what a difficult trial it was.
Resh: How? Thelonim lacks the proper permissions for user registration...
Kai: He might not have had his own deck, but I'm sure he learned a lot by watching our battles and listening to us talk about the game.
Kai: People possess potential. And it is by tapping into said potential that they grow stronger.
        Resh: ...
Resh blinks repeatedly, as if searching for an answer.
        Resh: Is it...
Resh: Is it the hidden potential in people that you refer to?
Hiro: Sounds about right! Your win-loss record, your qualifications—none of that matters!
        Resh casts his gaze downward.
Resh: The potential born from the connection between people... That element is absent from my data.
Resh: If even individuals who do not meet the requirements purely from a data standpoint are able to receive a sudden boost...
        Resh: I...
Resh mutters to himself, then lifts his gaze. Just then, the navi system sounds once more.
Navi System: All trials cleared. Access to the central area granted.
Navi System: Aptitude reassessment complete. As all respondents far surpass the baseline value, data will be updated.
A door opens, and out comes a keeper marching in slow, pronounced footsteps.
Tower Keeper: You have been acknowledged as a qualified Shadowverse player. Here is your crystal slate.
        Thelonim: Whoa... Really?
Looking on in disbelief, Thelonim timidly takes the slate from the keeper's hands.
        Thelonim: I... I can't believe I did it...
Thelonim: Hooray! I've proven my worth as a hero!
Thelonim is overjoyed to finally get his very own crystal slate.
Resh watches with a soft look in his eyes, his curiosity somewhat sated.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 3: Seeking the Gamemaster - Episode 4

In the tower's innermost room, the entourage learns from Resh that he himself is both the island's gamemaster and primal beast. He spread Shadowverse throughout the island as a means of facilitating data analysis of skydwellers. But in observing (Captain) and the others while traveling alongside them, he grew curious and wished to truly understand them. As a means to that end, he challenges Hiro to a game of Shadowverse.

With the last trial cleared, (Captain) and friends reach the final room of the tower where the gamemaster is said to be waiting.
However, the room is nearly empty, save for a machine making a low, rumbling sound.
Hiro: Huh? There's no one here.
Vyrn: Maybe the gamemaster's not in the tower right now?
Thelonim: Whaaat? After all the trouble we went through to get here!
A shadow in the corner of (Captain)'s vision flickers.
        Lyria: Resh?
        Resh: ...
Without responding, Resh quietly enters the room.
He stops before a large monitor, then turns back to the crew.
Resh: Praise. You all deserve the utmost respect for coming this far.
Vyrn: R-Resh? You feelin' all right?
Resh: Name. "Resh" is merely a fraction of my true name.
Resh: True name: Omoikane-Resh. I am the gamemaster of Kainourios Island.
Resh: I am what's commonly known in this world as a primal beast.
All present gasp at the shocking revelation.
        Hiro: You're... a primal beast?
Lyria: So it was you who pulled the Grandcypher to this island?
        Resh: Negative.
Resh: My role is to analyze the growth mechanism of people and deduce the most effective method for nurturing them.
To accomplish that goal, Resh researched firsthand the daily lives of the island's residents.
In doing so, he learned that emotions play a tremendous role in people's development, which warranted further analysis.
Resh: I have been observing people and cultures across islands, eras, and even dimensions.
Resh: In my eternal quest for data, I came across a game that stirs the emotions of people and transcends age, gender, and background—Shadowverse.
Resh: I concluded that Shadowverse would be useful in my study of people's emotions, and introduced it to the island.
Resh: And it indeed is an incredible tool, allowing me to observe the growth and change of people through remarkably short cycles.
Ferry: So that's why Shadowverse has only been limited to this island.
Resh: Astute observation. Spreading the game was necessary to further my understanding and uncover the mechanisms behind emotions.
Resh: But over time, I began to see a stagnation in the flow of emotion. I invited you here hoping you would be the spark needed to expedite my research.
People, for better or worse, grow accustomed to their environment.
When constantly battling those of similar skill level, emotional fluctuation is greatly diminished.
Resh invited Hiro and friends to the island in hopes of breaking through that stagnation.
Kai: I'm not sure what all of this has to do with us specifically.
Kai: Surely you had other ways of going about this, like attracting new residents to migrate to the island.
Resh: The very concept of Shadowverse originated in your world. That makes you more knowledgeable about the game than I could ever be.
Resh: I wished to see what effect you might have on the Sky Realm, a world in which Shadowverse did not originally exist.
Resh: I also wished to see how you might mature by interacting with the people here.
Resh: That is why I called you here, to explore the many possibilities.
Resh: There were others I could have invited, but you four in particular showed the greatest reaction.
        Kazuki: Wait!
Kazuki: The voice I heard on Genesis Island... It was you all along!
        Resh nods, confirming Kazuki's suspicions.
Resh: However, because transporting people from other worlds is an action beyond my administrative privileges...
Resh: My chances of success were extremely low.
Resh: In the event that I failed, I planned to instead conduct the experiment with skydwellers who are outside my normal jurisdiction.
Lyria: So that explains why we were brought here too.
Resh: Affirmative. Among all the airships flying in the vicinity of Kainourios Island, your group demonstrated the greatest aptitude for Shadowverse.
Resh: But because the teleportation was a success, I ended up gathering far more info than I thought I would.
Ferry: If I remember right, you were with Mimori when we first found you.
Ferry: Did you get close to Mimori to get to us?
Resh: Negative. I lack permissions to actively affect people.
Resh: What happened there was an irregularity even for myself.
Resh's purpose was observation, not interaction.
Mimori saving him was an event that differed greatly from what he envisioned happening.
Resh: Despite the irregularity, because it posed no hindrance to my goal, I decided to simply continue observing you.
Resh: Most surprising of all... I did not expect myself to go past the limits of observation and take a genuine interest in your group.
Resh: Being treated like any other person piqued my curiosity, a sentiment I wished to explore further.
(Captain) and friends allowed a total stranger to travel with them, accepting him as one of their own.
Where does this altruism stem from? How could anyone place so much trust in someone they've just met?
As such questions raced through his head, Resh realized he wanted to truly understand these people rather than simply observe them.
Resh: Th-there's so much more about you I wish to learn.
Resh: The emotions you feel, the potential you possess.
Resh takes out his phone and points it in Hiro's direction.
Resh: Hiro Ryugasaki. I challenge you to a battle.
Resh: You called me a friend. But I have not yet determined what a friend is.
Resh: To use (Captain) and Hiro Ryugasaki, or Mimori and Lyria as an example... Many of you come to understand each other through Shadowverse.
Resh: I wish to do the same.
Resh: If you accept, I will free you all from this island whether you win or lose.
        Hiro takes a step forward.
Hiro: Now you're talkin' my language!
Hiro: I'm just as ready to learn more about you!
Hiro: So you're on! Let's make this match one to remember!
Grinning from ear to ear and pulsing with excitement, Hiro whips out his phone.
Resh nods, a slight hint of surprise in his expression.
Resh: Thank you, Hiro. Let us begin.
Hiro: Ready whenever you are, Resh!
        Resh & Hiro: Shadowverse... Showdown!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Gamemaster Clash

The heated battle with Hiro allows Resh to feel emotions he did not know he possessed. He promises to return Hiro and his friends to their home world. But then he suddenly writhes in pain before vanishing into thin air. As countless keepers emerge, the entourage scurries out of the tower.

Hiro: This should do it! Hear the dragon's roar! Ignis Dragon!
        Hiro: Raaaah!
The roaring flames unleashed by the Ignis Dragon engulf Resh.
        Resh: ...!
The number display indicating Resh's defense falls to 0 almost instantaneously.
        Hiro: Huff... Huff...
        Resh: It's over.
Resh: A splendid battle it was. I lose.
        Hiro: Man, that was awesome!
Resh: I certainly felt your emotions during the battle.
Resh: It pains me to know that I lack the data to accurately describe our current situation.
Reflecting on the experience gained from this battle, Resh mutters under his breath.
Hiro: Going toe to toe with you taught me a few things too.
Hiro: Now I realize just how much you love Shadowverse!
        Resh: Love? I...
Resh: Negative. I do not possess emotion in the same way that people do.
Hiro: What's the smile for then?
        Resh: Huh?
Resh brings a hand up to his face.
Resh: An increase in heart rate and body temperature. Shortness of breath. These are the same symptoms present in people in an excited state.
Resh: And... My very moment of defeat is constantly replaying in my head.
Resh: I should be feeling remorse over the loss. And yet...
Resh: I yearn for another match with you.
Resh continues on in a low voice...
Almost as if speaking to himself.
Resh: Not just you, Hiro. I wish to play against all of you.
Resh: What is this impulse that's overtaken me?
        1. Just goes to show how much fun you had.

Choose: Just goes to show how much fun you had.
Resh: I see... So this is what people call fun.
Resh: At long last... I finally understand.
Resh: I wish to have more fun. I wish to play more Shadowverse.
Resh: I lack the words to fully express this emotion, but the desire to play more Shadowverse is all that occupies my mind right now.
Hiro: Same here, Resh! We all feel the same! Shadowverse never gets old!
As Kai readies his phone once more, Kai reminds him of something important.
Kai: I know how you feel, but if we don't return, won't you be disqualified from the Shadowverse Grand Prix?
Hiro: Gaaah! I forgot all about that!
Hiro clutches his head, flabbergasted that the tournament had slipped his mind entirely.
Seeing this, Resh lets out a grin.
Resh: Unfortunate. Still, the fact remains that I gathered you all here without regard to your circumstances.
Resh: Keeping you here any longer would do you little good.
Resh: Request. Now using admin privileges to execute program.
Resh: This door leads back to your world. Go through, and you will be right where you were before coming here.
However, there will be no turning back.
Meaning going through is essentially saying goodbye to (Captain)'s crew for good.
Thelonim: We got along so well. It's a shame this is the end of it...
Kazuki: Aw... It feels like we just got here. I was hopin' to hang out with you guys some more!
Kai: My sentiments exactly. We shared an invaluable experience together.
Lyria: Maybe we'll see each other again someday.
Mimori: I'm sure we will! And when that time comes, I'd love to visit more islands!
Ferry: That's a promise. Until then, Lyria and I will continue searching for new restaurants for us to try, okay?
Lyria: That's right! We'll pick out the best places we can find!
Though dismayed at having to part so suddenly, they reminisce on good times and make promises for a potential future reunion.
Hiro: It was a total blast playing Shadowverse with you, (Captain)! Thanks for everything!
Vyrn: Ditto! And good luck with the Shadowverse Grand Prix! We'll be rootin' for ya in spirit!
Hiro: Heh-heh! You can bet I'll be back to hang out with you guys after taking first prize!
Hiro exchanges a firm handshake with (Captain), then turns to Resh.
Hiro: I'm glad I met you, Resh.
Hiro: We'll have another match someday! And that's a promise!
        Hiro extends his right hand.
Resh puts out his own hand to return the gesture.
        However...
Vyrn: What the...? The pillar of light's gone!
        Resh: Ungh!
Hiro: Resh? Hey, Resh! What's going on?
Resh can do little but moan in pain, his head buried in his hands.
Resh: Interference... I... deny, deny, deny.
Resh: Command... Deny. Refuse. No... Vet, listen...
        Hiro: Resh!
Resh: Transferring admin privileges. Reforming Kainourios Island's rules. Commencing reeducation program.
        Hiro: Whaaat?
Just as a more robotic voice sounds from Resh, he suddenly vanishes into thin air.
Thelonim: He's gone... What in the skies is happening?
An ear-splitting siren begins to blare, demanding everyone's attention.
Navi System: Admin dematerialization confirmed. Commencing annihilation program. Proceeding to swiftly eliminate intruders.
Amid the chaos, countless keepers come out from the surrounding walls.
Tower Keeper: Intruders confirmed. Progressing with elimination.
        Thelonim: ...!
        Mimori, watch out!
        Mimori: Eek!
The electrical jolt from the keeper scorches the ground Mimori was standing on only a moment ago.
Kazuki: Just what the heck is goin' on here!
Kai: Unlike the keepers we've seen up until now, these ones don't seem too interested in playing Shadowverse!
        1. We need to hightail it outta here!

Choose: We need to hightail it outta here!
Vyrn: That's for sure! They're not gonna leave us in one piece if they catch us!
(Captain) and company run full speed toward the exit while dodging the keepers' attacks.
What could have possibly caused Resh to suddenly double over in agony and vanish?
Is he still alive and well somewhere? What was the meaning behind his final words?
What should have been the truth now begets greater mysteries.
        To be continued...

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 4: Trouble on Kainourios Island - Episode 1

The entourage escapes to the town, but things are not quite all right there either. Townspeople are disappearing left and right, as the rules of Shadowverse have been altered so that anyone who loses a match disappears. Thelonim notices something outside of town and runs over to find Resh standing there in eerie silence.

(Captain) and friends ascended a tower in the master area to meet the island's gamemaster.
When Resh revealed himself to be both gamemaster and primal beast, an intense battle ensued.
Hiro, Mimori, Kazuki, and Kai should have been able to return to their world after besting Resh. But things did not go as planned.
        Hiro: ...
        Tower Keeper: ...
        Tower Keeper: Elimination.
Tower Keeper: Elimination. Elimination. Elimination. Elimination.
        Tower Keeper: EliminationEliminationElimination

        Hiro: Ngh...
        Hiro: Ruunnn!
Resh uttered strange last words as he writhed in agony before vanishing, then the tower's keepers attacked the crew en masse.
Kazuki: Huff... Huff... Did we get them off our backs?
Barely making it out of the tower alive, the entourage takes a breather in a quiet part of the master area.
        Pale-Faced Man: ...
The number of eyes fixed on (Captain) and company makes them feel uneasy.
        Ferry: ...?
Ferry: (Captain)... Something seems off about the town.
Hiro: Is it something we did? That look on their faces kinda scares me...
Pale-Faced Man: It's them—the newcomers to this area!
Fashionable Man: Outta the way! I'm gonna be the one to battle 'em!
Fashionable Woman: Nuh-uh, it's first come, first served! One of you new guys take me on!
        Mimori: Huh?
(Captain) and friends find themselves besieged by the town's residents, each one pressing for a game of Shadowverse.
Kazuki: Yeowch! Hands off my hair!
Kai: Can we do away with the shoving? Please, calm yourselves!
        Hiro: Whaaat in the...?
The Shadowverse-hungry mob shows no signs of calming down.
One of them pushes past everyone and points his crystal slate at (Captain).
Pale-Faced Man: You ain't gettin' away! Ready or not, you're battlin' me!
        Pale-Faced Man: Shadowverse... Showdown!
        Proto Bahamut: ...!
        Pale-Faced Man: Gwaah!
The man falls to his knees, devastated at losing to (Captain).
Pale-Faced Man: D-damn it, you got me good! It wasn't supposed to be like this!
Vyrn: Sheesh... What's your deal, mister? You seemed pretty pushy about—
        Pale-Faced Man: Ack! It's coming...
Lyria: Are you okay? You're shaking really hard...
Pale-Faced Man: Please, no! My opponent got lucky! Gimme another chance!
A black shadow swoops out of the man's crystal slate and overtakes him.
        Pale-Faced Man: Gwaaagh!
Leaving behind a bloodcurdling scream, he and the shadow vanish without a trace.
Vyrn: Uh... Is it me, or did that guy just disappear into thin air?
Ferry: (Captain)! What's happening? And where did that shadow—
Thelonim: It came from the crystal slate! Looks like it takes away people who lose in Shadowverse!
They perk up their ears and realize that screams of agony are coming from all over town.
Ferry: This isn't normal... We'd best explain the situation to everyone and stop them from playing any more Shadowverse.
Fashionable Man: You tellin' us to stop? Screw you!
Fashionable Woman: What he said! I'm about to win this game, so don't get in my way!
Vyrn: C'mon now! How can you not care that people are disappearin'?
Hiro: Something's seriously wrong with this town!
Some residents begin to see how bad the situation is and follow the example of (Captain) and friends.
Navi System: Error. Decrease in desire for battle detected. Conferring penalty to both parties.
Kai: A penalty for refusing to play Shadowverse? This is getting absurd...
        Navi System: Penalty activated.
Shadows that usher people away rise out of the phones of Hiro, Mimori, Kazuki, and Kai.
        Hiro: ...!
        Hiro: Ignis Dragon?
When Hiro can no longer see anything but black, Ignis Dragon appears with a brilliant light to drive off the shadow.
The same happens to Kai, Mimori, and Kazuki, and their guardian followers.
        Kai: Our followers protected us?
The followers then fade away as particles of light.
Most of the crowds are no longer present.
A good number of them have been taken away by shadows.
        Mimori: Where did everyone go...
Kai: Chances are the shadows whisked them away...
Kazuki: 'Cept there's no rule in Shadowverse that says you disappear if you lose! Ya feel me?
        Thelonim: This is just bizarre...
Ferry: Something definitely has to be causing all this. We just don't know what...
Thelonim: What's stranger is that you'd expect people to be raising a ruckus in a situation like this.
Thelonim: But no one seems to care...
Those who bore witness to what should be a terrifying phenomenon are acting as if nothing had happened.
In fact, they continue looking for opponents to match up with.
Cheery Man: Oh, you're the new guys in town. Awesome battle back there.
Cheery Man: Care to take me on? I'm feeling pretty confident!
Vyrn: Hold up a sec! Doesn't it worry you that people are disappearin'?
Cheery Man: Why would I be? Those are the new rules.
        Mimori: The rules changed?
Ferry: What happens exactly when those shadows come out?
Cheery Man: Can't say for sure. Never really thought about it. What a strange thing to ask.
(Captain) and friends are flabbergasted at the man's response.
Thelonim: Are you not afraid you might disappear yourself?
Thelonim: Especially since you're not even sure what happens to people who are spirited away.
Cheery Man: Nope, that's just nature doing its thing! There's no need for weak people in this world!
Cheery Man: I only care about playing as many folks as I can to prove myself.
Cheery Man: Winning is all that matters! Just don't lose! If you lose, that's your fault!
Hiro: No! That's not what Shadowverse is about!
        Lyria: Um, guys!
The townspeople overhear the conversation and turn to (Captain) and friends with cold stares.
Vyrn: I think we'd better get away from here before we're surrounded again...
        Hiro: Good point...
The entourage have made their way to the town's entrance.
Hiro: If you lose, it's your fault, huh?
Hiro: How did things change so fast...
Mimori: Yeah, they weren't like that before.
What could have possibly happened in town while (Captain) and company were progressing through the tower?
As they chew over this conundrum, Thelonim comes to a realization.
        Thelonim: Ah! Could it be...?
Kazuki: I'm not exactly feelin' ya, Thelonim. What is it?
The crew and friends chase after Thelonim, following him outside of town. What lies before them comes as a pleasant surprise.
        Hiro: Resh!
        Resh: ...
There is no mistaking it. That is the very boy Hiro clashed with in the tower's final room earlier.
However, the way he eerily stares at the entourage without uttering a word suggests something has changed about him.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 4: Trouble on Kainourios Island - Episode 2

The Resh look-alike named Taw, claiming to not know the entourage, initiates a battle with Ferry. Locked in stalemate at first, Taw turns the tide by playing a powerful follower. However, Ferry's resolve continues to burn bright.

        Resh?: ...
        Thelonim: Resh! You're okay!
(Captain) stops Thelonim from running up to him.
He is unmistakably Resh in appearance, but the air about him is drastically different.
A staredown ensues. Resh is the first to make a move.
Resh?: Target found. Initiating contact for verification.
        Hiro: Resh?
Resh?: Resh. That is the unique identifier given to code: 20.
Resh?: I am code: 22. My registered player name is Taw.
Taw: Directive: reassess power level and understanding of Shadowcraft now that contact has been made between skydwellers and the visitors from another world.
Taw: Player Ferry. I will begin with you. Forcing bootup.
Ferry: Huh? My crystal slate's moving on its own!
Hiro: Hey! I thought we were friends!
Taw: Denied. Code: 20's records are not synchronized with ours.
        Hiro: Not cool, Resh...
Realizing what she has to do, Ferry takes a step forward.
Ferry: Please stand back. It doesn't look like I can refuse, so I'll just have to give it my best.
Hiro: But this is Resh we're talking about! And if you lose, you'll...
Ferry: Hehe... This isn't like you, Hiro.
Ferry asserts herself, flashing Hiro a bold, confident smile.
Ferry: It was you who taught me that there are some things you just don't see until you fight it out.
Hiro: My bad! You're absolutely right!
Hiro: You've got this, Ferry! Show him what's up!
Ferry: That's the plan. I'm going all in.
        Taw: Beginning verification.
        Shadowverse... Showdown.
Ferry: I use Rabbit Necromancer to attack your Feathered Patroller!
Ferry: My Rabbit Necromancer falls, activating Last Words to deal 2 damage to you!
Taw: Minor damage sustained. The impact is within the margin of error. My turn.
They match each other blow for blow, with neither side gaining the upper hand.
But the stalemate doesn't last for long. Taw makes a big push.
Taw: I play the spell card Voices of Resentment, summoning two Ghosts.
Taw: And have them attack you.
        Ferry: Urk!
Taw: Having four followers in play, I activate Lord Atomy's effect and summon it for 0 play points.
Ferry: It has 8 attack! That's no ordinary follower...
Kazuki: Oof! Bringin' out somethin' that strong for 0 play points is practically cheatin'!
        Ferry: Ungh!
Despite being thrust into an extremely disadvantageous position, Ferry's determination burns bright.
Her friends, too, remain confident in her victory.
Mimori: You can do it, Ferry! We believe in you!
Ferry: Thanks... We're just getting started!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 4: Trouble on Kainourios Island - Episode 3

Using the newly drawn card, Ferry unleashes a devastating combo and claims victory. Before disappearing, Taw advises that the crew head to the next town up north.

Ferry struggles before the all-mighty enemy follower Lord Atomy.
Taw's onslaught continues unabated, pushing her into a corner.
Taw: I attack you with Lord Atomy.
        Ferry: Rgh!
Kazuki: Ferry's got 2 defense left, while Taw still has 8...
Kai: This is the last turn...
        But there's still hope yet!
Ferry: That's right! The most important lesson Mimori taught me...
Ferry: Was to never give up! I'll find a way!
        Ferry: My turn! Draw!
Ferry braces herself for the play she's about to make.
Ferry: I play Cerberus, putting Coco and Mimi into my hand!
Ferry: Spell card: Phantom Howl! I bring four Ghosts into play!
Taw: I have 8 defense. Taking me down with Ghosts alone is impossible.
Ferry: I'm not done yet! Spell card: Coco! I give one follower +2 to attack!
        Taw: ...!
Ferry: I evolve the boosted Ghost, then attack with all of them!
        Taw: Impossible...
Ferry brings Taw's defense down to 0, claiming victory.
Mimori: Hooray! That was amazing, Ferry!
Hiro: Nice work, Ferry! You had me on the edge of my seat! What's surprising though...
Hiro: Is that there's no black shadow coming out.
Taw: We are exempt from the loser callback program.
Ferry: Tell us where Resh is. Surely you have to know something.
Taw: As an observational interface, I lack permissions to share info concerning Code: 20.
Taw: Directive from central interface: "If you seek info about Resh, head to the town north of here."
Hiro: You saying we'll find answers about Resh and our whole situation if we go there?
Taw: I cannot answer that. I was ordered only to relay the directive to you.
Taw turns to the sky with an empty gaze.
        Taw: Battle data sent.
Taw: Central interface's orders confirmed. Initiating Taw elimination program.
        Hiro: Elimination? No, wait!
Navi System: Elimination program executed. Deleting interface data.
As part of Taw breaks away like shattered glass, Hiro runs up to him and tries to rein him in.
        Hiro: Hang in there! I'll—
Taw: Why did you save me?
Hiro: Do you even have to ask? We've already been through this!
Taw: Comprehension... failure... Concluding elimination program.
After emitting a high-pitched noise, his body dissipates like grains of sand.
        Hiro: I can't believe it...
The small particles left behind by Taw scatter into the wind.
Ferry: That wasn't Resh. But still...
Mimori: Mm. It's sad either way.
Kai: We need to go to bat for the real Resh. To the north, everyone.
        Hiro: Right.
Hiro: We've gotta do what we can! Let's go!
Resh's true identity. A boy named Taw who is the spitting image of him. And the central interface.
With a bad taste in their mouths from this ever-deepening mystery, (Captain) and company make their way north.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 4: Trouble on Kainourios Island - Episode 4

Having arrived at this next town, the entourage picks up news of another boy sharing Resh's appearance who has been disappearing people all over. They next head for the village at the northernmost tip of the island to uncover the truth about him.

(Captain) and friends proceed north through the woodlands to reach the town Taw spoke of.
        Lyria: This must be it...
Ferry: We should start by gathering info. Maybe we'll learn something about Resh.
They ask around for anyone looking like Resh, and one merchant in particular responds positively.
Carefree Merchant: Sure, I know that boy. I see him practically everywhere I go, so he's always stood out to me.
        Hiro: Really?
Carefree Merchant: The thing is, he's far too ubiquitous. It can't be possible for a single boy to be in so many places at once.
Carefree Merchant: After all, it's not just me—others have mentioned seeing him. I figured he must be a new type of follower or keeper.
There have been multiple eyewitness accounts of the boy all across the island.
A shared theme between these accounts is that the boy seemingly removes people from existence.
Kai: He erases people? That's a cause for concern...
Hiro: Resh wouldn't do that. I trust in him.
Thelonim: Maybe there are others like Taw?
Kai: I suppose it is possible that Resh has multiple look-alikes.
Carefree Merchant: If you really want to see him, try going to the village at the northern tip of the island.
Carefree Merchant: He showed up here earlier actually. Left from the northern gate without saying a word.
Carefree Merchant: That village is the only thing northward that someone would want to visit, so chances are he went there.
        Hiro: All right! Thanks, mister!
Hiro: Wait for us, Resh! We'll get you out of whatever mess you're in!
The others cheer in response, eager to help their little friend.
And so they set out for the village up north.

        Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 5: Resh's Truth - Episode 1

The entourage finds two Resh look-alikes named Gimel and Lamedh lurking in the village. Gimel challenges Thelonim to a battle, claiming that it is necessary to ascertain if he is truly worthy of the crystal slate given to him by Resh.

Relying on the merchant's info, (Captain) and friends head north to find Resh.
It isn't long before they come to a quaint little village completely devoid of life. Not even a keeper guards the gate.
Lyria: There's no one here. Could it be...
Ferry: Maybe everyone's been wiped out. Like in the town with Taw.
They look through a few houses and find that they all feel very much lived-in.
Expecting to find a Resh look-alike, the crew and friends keep their eyes peeled.
Hiro: Hey, look... The kid standing over there...
        Resh?: ...
        Kai: You're...
Hiro: You're not Resh, are you?
Gimel: Correct. I am Code: 3. My unique identifier is Gimel.
Hiro: Where's the real Resh? Why are you using Shadowverse to do such a horrible thing?
Gimel: I have not received any orders to answer your queries.
Gimel: My directive is to lead you to a certain place.
Gimel: But there is something I must do before that.
Gimel turns around to another boy in the distance.
        Lamedh: ...
        Mimori: Another one?
Lamedh: Registered user Thelonim. You, and only you, were authorized by Resh's sole discretion.
Lamedh: Even when referencing Resh's data, I fail to understand why.
Lamedh: Therefore, we must assess your worth to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements.
Thelonim: So we'll have to fight it out?
Gimel: Yes. If you lose, we will strip you of your player rights and punish you for your violations.
Gimel: We do not accept irregularities. Those who fall below the required standard have a negative effect on surrounding players.
        1. Thelonim has improved a ton.

Choose: Thelonim has improved a ton.
Gimel: The plausibility of that statement is low. Compared to other skydwellers within the same age range, he falls below the average values.
Vyrn: What's your problem, punk! Stop talkin' like you know Thelonim!
Kai: I must raise an objection as well. Thelonim is a diamond in the rough, possessing great potential as a Swordcraft player.
Kazuki: Yeah, Thelonim can definitely stand on his own!
        Kai: A diamond indeed.
Gimel: We will be the ones to appraise his worth, not you.
Clamping his fingers into white-knuckled vise-grips, Thelonim gives them a piece of his mind.
Thelonim: I'll admit I'm still wet behind the ears in more ways than one.
        Thelonim: But!
Fists still clenched, Thelonim looks defiantly at Gimel.
Thelonim: I've gotten so much stronger thanks to everyone's help! Not to mention...
Thelonim: Resh gave me a crystal slate because he acknowledged my strength!
Thelonim: I won't stand for anyone making a fool of him! You're on!
Gimel's expression remains cold as he shifts his gaze to the figure beside him.
Gimel: Target's consent confirmed. Code: 12, begin the assessment.
Lamedh: Understood. Code: 12... Player name Lamedh. Initiating assessment program.
        Lamedh: Beginning practical test.
        Shadowverse... Showdown.
Thelonim: I won't lose... When I'm done with you, you're gonna tell me where Resh is!
Thelonim: I get the first turn! Draw!
Not intent on letting anyone make light of all the hard work he's put in and time spent with his friends...
Thelonim is ready to prove his worth.

        Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 5: Resh's Truth - Episode 2

Thelonim fights a desperate battle, but comes out on top with the card Albert, Levin Saber. Lamedh is erased for losing, just as Taw was. Gimel explains that they were scrap interfaces—pawns created to gather data. The incensed entourage is suddenly robbed of sight, seeing white in every direction.

Thelonim: My turn! Draw! I play Arthur, Knight King!
Thelonim: Gather by your king, chosen ones!
Eager to show what he can do, Thelonim starts out with a strong offensive.
Four followers heed the call and appear on the field alongside Arthur, Knight King.
Ferry: Wow... Five followers from the get-go!
Thelonim: I evolve Gunner Maid Seria! She gains an additional +1 to attack and defense since I have a Commander card in play!
Thelonim: Then I use her to attack your Sentry!
        Lamedh: A trade, huh?
Thelonim: Now I can attack you head-on! I play Centaur Vanguard, a follower with Storm!
Lamedh: My turn. I play Aurelia, Regal Saber.
Lamedh: She gains +1 to attack for every enemy follower in play.
Hiro: Thelonim has five followers in play, which means...
Kai: Putting Arthur, Knight King into play ended up working against him!
Lamedh: I play Novice Trooper, using her and Floral Fencer to attack you.
        Thelonim: Urgh!
        Lamedh: Turn end.
Kai: This is bad... Aurelia has Ward, along with spell and effect resistance.
Kazuki: I'm not feelin' a win here with just followers... Unless Thelonim's got some crazy trick up his sleeve.
Thelonim is thrust into a desperate situation.
However, there is no hint of resignation in his eyes. Seeing only the light at the end of the tunnel, Thelonim takes a deep breath.
Thelonim: (A hero never gives up. As long as I stand firm, the goddess of victory will surely smile upon me!)
        Thelonim: My turn! Draw!
        Thelonim: (This card!)
With a certain card now in hand, a path to victory springs up in Thelonim's mind.
Thelonim: I use all my followers to attack and destroy Aurelia!
        Lamedh: ...
        Thelonim: Then...
Thelonim: Lend me your strength, Albert!
Thelonim: I play Albert, Levin Saber!
Vyrn: Wha? Albert? When'd he become a follower?
Kazuki: Albert, Levin Saber is one heck of a legendary follower!
Thelonim is suffused with renewed energy and vigor.
Thelonim: Thanks to Storm, I can attack using Albert right away! And what's more...
Thelonim: He can attack twice in one turn!
A surge of lightning comes crashing down on Albert's sword as he raises it to the skies.
Thelonim: Double attack! Go, go, gooo!
Albert's devastating strikes cut through Lamedh, leaving behind a pillar of thunder.
        Gimel: A most profound irregularity.
The pillar of thunder pierces even the clouds above, giving way for sunlight to shine on Thelonim.
As if celebrating the hard-fought victory of a glorious hero.
Thelonim: Now that I've won, you're gonna tell me where Resh is!
Gimel: Resh returned to where he belongs.
Thelonim: And where is that? How could he just leave all of this behind?
Gimel: Even if I knew, I would not be able to share that with you.
Gimel: We simply follow the orders given to us. Destroy Code: 12, Lamedh.
Lamedh: Understood. Following protocol for elimination program.
Navi System: Program execution confirmed. Initiating procedure.
Just as it was with Taw, only light particles remain after Lamedh is erased.
        Gimel: Elimination complete.
Lyria: Why...? How could you do such a thing?
Gimel: As I said, we only follow orders.
Gimel: Observational interfaces like Lamedh are programmed to self-delete after a loss in Shadowverse.
Gimel: We are all disposable cogs of a wheel. What matters is that things continue moving forward.
Lyria: What an awful thing to say! Aren't they your friends?
Gimel: The notion of friends is unknowable to us. An interface removed is a mere fact—nothing more, nothing less.
(Captain) and friends are speechless as Gimel continues.
Gimel: We have only a singular purpose. And that has never changed since the day we were created long, long ago.
Hiro: What reason could you possibly have for doing something so horrible!
        Gimel: ...
Gimel: I will share a fact with you.
Gimel: Everything that has been happening on this island, including the punishment dealt for losing, are things that Resh himself desired.
        Hiro: ...!
        Gimel: Area opened. Beginning teleportation.
A dazzling light suddenly shines before the entourage, robbing them of their sight.
Gimel: This battle data allows us to finally move forward with the plan. Only the final step remains.
That is the last thing (Captain) and friends hear before they lose consciousness.

        Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 5: Resh's Truth - Episode 3

(Captain) and friends awake in an unfamiliar place. They advance and eventually come to the room where Hiro faced off against Resh earlier, but it is Gimel who awaits them there. He leaves a trial behind for each member of the entourage before vanishing.

        What is this place?
A blank canvas. Empty space. Perfect stillness.
        Negative. I know this place.
This is where we were born. And where we must return.
We dissolve and blend together, only to eventually be reborn. This is how it's been for countless generations.
Melding into the collective consciousness, reverting to a blank slate. I become we. This is the system that defines us.
Yet... I must ask... Why? Why am I still here?
        Vyrn: Heeey! Wake up, (Captain)!
The clamorous voice rouses (Captain) to consciousness.
Lyria: (Captain)! Thank goodness, you're awake.
Vyrn: Phew, you had me worried for a sec... I thought you might've bumped your head a little too hard or somethin'.
(Captain) assuages their fears, then takes a look around the area.
The captain finds that Hiro and friends have also just awoken.
        1. Are you okay?

        Choose: Are you okay?
Hiro: Yeah, we're good! You too, I hope? No injuries?
Noticing that he seems absentminded, (Captain) asks if anything happened to him.
Hiro: I had this weird dream...
Hiro: It was stark white everywhere I looked. I could feel myself slowly fading away...
Mimori: I had the same dream. It felt like I was fully conscious, but also not there at the same time. It was terrifying...
Their description of the dream sounds awfully familiar to (Captain)'s, suggesting that the captain also experienced it.
Kai: You had the same dream, (Captain)? I wonder if this is all more than just a coincidence...
They ponder the significance of their shared experience.
Kazuki: But more importantly, what the heck happened to us? Like... how'd we even end up here, ya know?
Mimori: Um... After Thelonim won the battle, Gimel had a lot to say, and...
Kai: Everything around me suddenly turned white. When I came to, I found myself here.
Kai: Given the circumstances, Gimel may have had his reasons for sending us here.
Ferry: And we have no idea what those reasons could possibly be...
Gimel is nowhere in sight, leaving the crew without answers.
Thelonim: Either way, we need to figure a way out. Standing around won't do us any good!
Kazuki: Now we're talkin'! We can start by checkin' out those stairs on the other side!
(Captain) and friends proceed toward the staircase.
Although the scenery remains unchanging as they climb the stairs, a disconcerting noise becomes audible.
        Lyria: Eep! Those sounds...
Hiro: They're coming from this way...
        Hiro: Hey! Anyone there?
        Mimori: H-Hiro! Wait!
(Captain) and company gasp at the ghastly sight before them.
Large throngs of people are tightly packed together in tiny jail cells. They show no signs of injury but are all unconscious.
        Kai: My goodness...
Mimori: They look familiar... They're the townspeople that lost in Shadowverse earlier!
Hiro: We have to save them somehow!
However, forcing the cells open could result in injury to the people inside.
Ferry: Are Gimel and whoever he works with responsible for this too?
        Hiro: ...
Gimel: Everything that has been happening on this island, including the punishment dealt for losing, is what Resh himself desired.
Hiro: He said Resh wanted this... But still...
Kai: I find it hard to believe. Or rather, I choose not to.
Mimori: Everything should become clear once we find Resh... Right?
        Hiro: Without a doubt!
Bearing witness to this unsightly prison block hardens the entourage's resolve to set things right.
They leave the jail cells behind and continue climbing up the stairs, eventually reaching a familiar-looking room.
Hiro: Isn't this... the inside of the tower in the master area?
The many instruments of measurement in their surroundings look identical to the ones they saw in the tower.
What's different is that the monitors now have the conditions of the island on permanent display, perpetually displaying the shrieks and screams of people.
        Gimel: You've come.
        Hiro: You're...
Gimel: I am Gimel, not Resh.
Gimel speaks coldly, as if to dispel whatever glimmer of hope (Captain) and friends may have remaining.
Gimel: I will now have you undergo a training program.
With a sweeping gesture of his hand, multiple doors on the wall open up.
Gimel: Please proceed alone through the door with your name engraved on it. And in case it is not obvious, you do not have the right to refuse.
Gimel: If you can clear your given programs, a meeting with Resh may well be within your grasp.
Gimel: I have said all that needs to be said. The rest lies with you.
With that, Gimel disappears in a flash.
A brief silence ensues as each member of the entourage stares at the doors with their names engraved.
Hiro: All right! Let's get with the program and go find Resh!
Kazuki: Yeah, baby! No way are we turning back now!
Kai: Indeed. Our only path is forward.
Mimori: It's okay to be afraid. We have each other to pull us through it all!
Thelonim: Yeah! It'll take more than that to get a hero like me down!
Ferry: We may be apart for this set of trials, but we'll still get through this together.
With a firm nod, (Captain) calls for everyone to advance.
And so they each proceed through their respective doors.

        Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 5: Resh's Truth - Episode 4

When (Captain)'s trial starts, Lyria vanishes and is replaced by Gimel. He explains that the purpose given to him and other interfaces is to develop a training program for skydwellers, and (Captain)'s battle data will be invaluable in doing so. Gimel orders keepers under his command to make a hostage of Rackam—who remains by the Grandcypher—compelling (Captain) to battle him.

Trusting in Gimel's words, (Captain) passes through the door in hopes that Resh will be waiting on the other side.
Vyrn and Lyria, who did not have their own doors, follow (Captain).
Navi System: Target's entry confirmed. Commencing training program.
Navi System: Temporarily granting all admin privileges to Gimel.
        Lyria: Eek!
        Vyrn: Lyria!
A distinct mechanical hum sounds as Lyria vanishes in a white streak of light.
The boy who seems to come and go at will shows up again, as if taking her place.
        1. What did you do to her?

Choose: What did you do to her?
Gimel: For the time being, I've placed her in an isolation chamber. She is safe.
Gimel: The training program requires that all participants go through it under the same conditions.
Gimel: Rule violations are strictly forbidden.
Gimel: The girl known as Lyria is someone that should not be among skydwellers... Thus, I've separated her.
Gimel: (Captain). Data suggests you are a skydweller. However, your base values far surpass that of the ordinary skydweller.
Gimel: Your stats are equivalent to that of a master rank player in Hiro Ryugasaki's world.
Gimel: Does this stem from your own power? Or does it stem from Lyria—the girl in blue?
Gimel: That is an answer we seek.
        1. Why do you care?

        Choose: Why do you care?
Gimel: If such power is yours alone, a small sampling of you would make for invaluable data.
Vyrn: You call this a training program, but that's what you wanted all along, huh!
Gimel: Negative. Your collective data will be invaluable in improving the training program. Our purpose is multifold.
Gimel: All orders relayed to us are in accordance with the plan. Our plan exists to benefit all skydwellers.
        1. All skydwellers?
        2. What's this plan you speak of?

        Choose: All skydwellers?
        Gimel: ...
Vyrn: Now you're just contradictin' yourself. How is erasing townspeople helpin' anyone?
Gimel: Data shared with me dictates that it is necessary. I possess no other answer.

Choose: What's this plan you speak of?
Gimel: I do not have a full picture of the plan. Therefore, I cannot answer that question.
Vyrn: Then what did you mean by saying you do this for skydwellers? I don't see how disappearin' them helps any.
Gimel: Perhaps a necessary evil, but one necessary for achieving results. Analyzing targets for data analysis is a valid procedure.
        Continue 1
Gimel pushes some buttons on a mainframe and changes the display on the monitor.
(Captain) and Vyrn gasp at what they see.
Vyrn: What are those armored blockheads doing around the Grandcypher!
Mass keepers have the crew's airship surrounded.
In their midst is Rackam, being dragged along the ground with his arms bound behind him.
Gimel: We knew from the outset that your friend was waiting there.
Gimel: In the case that you lose or deny the program—in essence, me...
Gimel: I have ordered the keepers to subject him to an experiment. The same goes for the isolated girl.
Vyrn: Takin' hostages is just plain dirty!
Gimel: People do the same to effectively accomplish their goals. I merely imitated those methods.
Nostrils flaring and teeth bared, (Captain) pulls out a crystal slate.
Gimel: If you care for the safety of your friends, you will defeat me in this program.
Gimel: Know that this is no ordinary test. I will be using data gleaned from this bout to assess your worth.
Vyrn: When (Captain)'s done with you, you'd better back off and let our buddies go!
Gimel: Well then, let us begin.
        1. Shadowverse... Showdown!

        Choose: Shadowverse... Showdown!
The safety of Lyria and Rackam lies in (Captain)'s hands.
The captain draws a card, intent on seeing them through this predicament.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 6: Power of Bonds - Episode 1

A victorious (Captain) proceeds with Vyrn to find Hiro in a waiting room. Vet, another Resh look-alike, shows up and elucidates to the captain his identity as the primal beast Omoikane's core; Resh, Gimel, Taw, and Lamedh are mere interfaces. Vet describes his role and how Shadowverse spread throughout the island, then devours the others in the entourage for failing their trials.

What Gimel calls a training program is nearing its end.
The leaders' defenses are at 6 vs. 4, with Gimel taking the lead. (Captain) gears up for what should be the final turn.
Drawing an Orb Dragon, (Captain) uses the card's effect to destroy the follower protecting Gimel with Ward before dealing the finishing blow.
        Gimel: Rgh!
Gimel: You far surpass my analytical prowess... I acknowledge your power as your own.
Vyrn: Heheh! There's no way (Captain) would lose to a punk like you!
Vyrn: Give us Lyria back already!
Gimel: Negative. The program is still in progress.
The door behind him opens up, showing the path forward.
Past the foyer-esque entrance is a poorly lit narrow passage leading to another room.
Gimel: Go. Everything you seek is there.
With that, Gimel breaks away like shattered glass and turns into particles of light in the same manner as Taw and Lamedh.
Vyrn: Darn it... Another one gone...
Vyrn: Welp, let's keep going, (Captain).
They proceed through the narrow hallway.
        Hiro: (Captain)! You're all right!
Vyrn: Hiro! I knew Gimel would be no match for you!
Hiro: Actually, I went up against someone else. He looked just like Resh too though...
Hiro: Wait, where's Lyria? Didn't she go in with you?
(Captain) explains everything that had just happened.
Hiro: A rule violation? And they got Rackam too?
Vyrn: Gimel said everything we're lookin' for is right here, but I'm not exactly seein' that...
Hiro: I was told I'd be able to meet up with everyone here if I won.
Hiro: But when I got arrived, there wasn't anybody here.... I'm just happy to see you again, to be honest.
It turns out Hiro had been waiting in the room for quite some time.
Vyrn: So what's this room for anyway? Doesn't look like it's connected to any other place.
Hiro: I took a look at some of the strange-looking machines lying around, but I don't understand any of it.
Hiro: We still don't know if Gimel has more trials in store for us.
Hiro: I'm guessing more challenges will be waiting once everybody's gathered here.
Resh?: Praise. Hiro, (Captain). You did well in coming this far.
Hiro: What the! When'd you get here?
Hiro: Wait, who even are you?
        Resh?: Who, you ask?
Hiro: You resemble Resh the most of all the ones we've met so far, but there's something different about you.
Resh?: Hehe. I see that people judge others by more than just their outward appearance.
A brilliant light envelops the boy's body.
When the light subsides, an unfamiliar boy with trace vestiges of Resh stands before them.
Resh?: The boy you seek is in here.
He places his hands on his chest and continues.
Resh?: After all, I have no use for interfaces that lose against people. He's back where he belongs—inside me.
Resh?: The individual you know as Resh no longer exists, but his data remains.
Resh?: So in a way, I, keeper of his records, am now Resh.
        Hiro: Wha...?
Hiro finds this cruel truth hard to accept.
Resh?: We were once one. As an individual, my unique identifier is Omoikane-Resh.
Vet: As a collective that includes Resh and Gimel, we are the primal beast Omoikane.
Vet: Those two were interfaces created by me, the core of Omoikane.
Vet: To put it simply, they are nothing more than copies of me—tools created to carry out my orders.
(Captain) and Hiro grow wide-eyed at the startling revelation.
        Hiro: Tools?
Hiro: Don't you dare call Resh a tool!
Vet: I speak the truth. I asked him for an analysis of the life-forms commonly known as skydwellers.
        1. What's your end goal?
        2. Did you just call us life-forms?

        Choose: What's your end goal?
Vet: The mission given to primal beast Omoikane is to elevate the status of life-forms in the Sky Realm, and to preserve that new state as the status quo.
Vet: I am to give you skydwellers power to subsist, but not so much power that you become a threat to the Astral Realm.

Choose: Did you just call us life-forms?
Vet: Yes. The Astrals who created us differ from skydwellers in many fundamental ways.
Vet: The mission given to primal beast Omoikane is to elevate the status of life-forms in the Sky Realm, and to preserve that new state as the status quo.
Vet: Giving you ample instruction to grow, but not so much that you become a threat. Which is why we require so much data.
        Continue 1
Vet: The great number of skydwellers in existence makes them a great target for subjugation. But their capabilities are far too inferior when compared to Astrals.
Vet: To make resourceful vassals out of them, I, the primal beast Omoikane, was born.
Vet: Things did not fare well. Although many brilliant individuals came about, the fluctuation in overall quality was too great.
Vet: Culling the lesser skydwellers, then watching the remaining ones breed still resulted in countless offspring who ended up as failures. And culling too many would lead to a population crisis.
Vet: As beneficial as having such a large sample size was, the quality and growth potential of each specimen varied far too greatly.
Vet: Having them kill each other off could potentially damage the superior ones, so that wasn't a viable option.
Vet: Finding myself at an impasse, I increased the number of interfaces to do multiple simulations in tandem. And one of those interfaces, Resh, came across something remarkable.
Vet: Namely, the game of Shadowverse in Hiro's world. What a phenomenal tool we had found.
Vet: Simply changing up the rules was an incredibly effective way of gathering multiple data sets without getting anyone killed.
Vet: Shadowverse has given us much to consider.
        Vet: Let me show you.
With a snap of his fingers, the display on the giant monitor behind him switches to something else.
Appearing on the screen are the other members of the entourage, each kneeling before Resh look-alikes.
        Hiro: Guys!
Vet: Your friends lost against my interfaces. Though of course this was bound to happen, given how much data we had collected off of you earlier.
Hiro: What are you doing to them!
Vet: Losers must accept the penalty. I will absorb their data.
Vet: The more I have to prey on, the stronger I get.
As Vet's hand flutters about, all of (Captain)'s and Hiro's friends collapse in unison.
And like so many times before, he disappears in a flash of light.
Vyrn: Gah! Where'd he go off to now!
Vet: I compressed my data. Like this.
With another snap of his fingers, a large bubble appears out of thin air.
Inside the floating bubble are the rest of the entourage, lying unconscious.
        Hiro: Aw, man...
Vet: I bring you your friends who've suffered a miserable loss. They're the genuine articles.
Vet: What valuable data they've provided me. Ah, the wondrous and unexpected behavior of skydwellers...
Vet: And those who hail from the world that gave birth to Shadowverse.
Vet: I must say, this is quite the boon for me.
Vet: It is data that I devour. Here, like this.
Once again, (Captain) watches as Vet's fingers snap as they had before.
The bubble bursts open. Its contents turn into particles of light and rain down on Vet.
        Hiro: ...!
Hiro, (Captain), and Vyrn can do little but watch in horror.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 6: Power of Bonds - Episode 2

Vet prepares to absorb (Captain) and Hiro as well, which would allow him to proceed with his evolution plan for the Sky Realm. Hiro remarks that the Resh inside him has changed from his default programming and now sees (Captain) and company as friends. Vet denies this outright. A battle of conflicting ideologies commences.

        Hiro: Ah...
Vet mutters in ecstasy as he bathes in the light.
Vet: The data is overflowing within me... Ah, so this is what your world feels like.
Vyrn: You're not gettin' away with this, buster! Give us our friends back!
Vet: That's not going to happen. I need this power to put my plan into motion.
Vet: Of course, I'll need the data of you three as well.
Vet: Once that's done, I can begin spreading Shadowverse across the world and choosing the finest candidates.
Vet: Using the data you've given me, I will be able to put together the most suitable training program possible.
Vet: The Sky Realm will evolve. Lesser people will wither away, while the more advanced will live on in the new world order.
Vet: Resh proved to be just the tool I needed. He made contact with you and lured you into giving me your data.
        Hiro: You're wrong.
Hiro retorts with his head down.
Hiro: Resh is no tool. To consider him one is just messed up.
Hiro: Resh is a friend through and through! We had a blast hanging out together, and I'll never see him as anything less!
Vet: That means nothing to us who know no emotion.
Hiro: Resh might've seemed pretty detached at first. But...
Hiro: But he changed in our time together! We became friends!
Hiro: We made a connection. Through our hearts... Through Shadowverse!
Vet's face contorts at those words.
Vet: Do not place your kind on the same pedestal as us.
Vet: We are unchanging. We could never stray from our initial design.
        1. You couldn't be more wrong.
        2. Resh has changed.

Choose: You couldn't be more wrong.
Hiro: That's right! Resh is no longer the tool you make him out to be!

        Choose: Resh has changed.
Hiro: I'll never forget my battle with him—nor his smile, for that matter!
        Continue 1
Hiro: You just don't get it, Vet! You don't know anything about Resh... You don't know anything!
Hiro: If he really is inside you, then give him a good look. Maybe you'll see the side of Resh that's no longer a part of you!
Hiro: Go on and see for yourself! Maybe you'll learn what it means to be a friend, to love Shadowverse, and most important of all, to smile!
        Vet: ...!
Vet bites his lip at Hiro's forthrightness.
        Vet: Your words are meaningless.
Vet: As I said, we, as a primal beast, are invariable.
Vet: Stimulation from outside factors resulting in change is a characteristic of people.
Vet: No matter how much input, no matter how much data validation there is...
Vet: We do not change. We are constant. We cannot change.
Vet: We maintain a neutral stance, unaffected by emotions as we guide the Sky Realm from behind the scenes. That is the meaning of our existence.
Hiro: So you say... I'm not sure I got all that, but one thing's for sure...
Hiro: I could just as easily make one heck of an argument for me and my friends!
        Hiro readies his phone.
Hiro: You're on, Vet! You'd better be ready to give me everything you've got, 'cause I'm not holding back!
After a brief silence, Vet slowly blinks.
Vet: You wish to engage me in a contest of strength? Do you truly think you can win?
        Hiro: That's not the point.
Vet: I fail to understand your intent. How irrational, how illogical. Your ignorance will be your undoing.
Vet: I shall take this opportunity to remedy your brazen arrogance.
Hiro: Bring it on! Show me what you've got!
        Hiro & Vet: Shadowverse... Showdown!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 6: Power of Bonds - Episode 3

Hiro's fiery passion stirs in Vet a memory of Resh that should no longer exist. Growing desperate, Vet breaks the rules as gamemaster and takes control of Hiro's cards. Winning an easy victory, he absorbs Hiro.

Hiro: I play Bejeweled Dragon and end my turn!
Vet: I play the amulet card Sacred Plea. Back to you.
The battle starts out quietly enough.
Hiro: I attack you with Dragon Warrior! Hah, take that!
Vet remains calm all the while.
However, that calm, unflinching demeanor makes (Captain) feel considerably anxious and uneasy.
Vet: My turn. I use my Pious Fox's ability to summon a Guardian Fox into play.
Vet: Next, I play the amulet cards Divine Birdsong and Beastcall Aria.
Hiro: Things are ramping up... I'll play a Roc and evolve it! Now, attack the Guardian Fox!
Hiro: On top of that, I'll use Mushussu to attack you directly!
        Vet: ...
        Hiro: Heh-heh.
        Vet: You find this amusing?
Hiro: Can't help it, I'm having fun.
Vet: You are mistaken if you think your current advantage will pave the way to victory.
Hiro: Nah, it's not like that. Don't tell me you aren't feeling it too—the thrill of battle!
Vet: You continue to defy logic. Determining the superior party is everything. Nothing else matters.
Vet bites his lip in denial of Hiro's words.
        Vet: (There's no mistaking it...)
Vet tries to brush aside the ineffable sensation welling up within him.
Vet: The game ends here. I will give you swift demise, Hiro Ryugasaki.
Vet: I play Winged Sentinel Garuda.
Vet: Doing so lowers an amulet's Countdown by 3, while dealing 3 damage to you.
        Hiro: Ngh!
Vet: Beastcall Aria's Last Words bring a Holy Falcon and a Holyflame Tiger into play.
Vet: I evolve the Holyflame Tiger and have it attack your Mushussu.
Vet: Then I use my Holy Falcon's Storm effect to attack you.
        Hiro: Grgh!
        1. Hiro!

        Choose: Hiro!
Hiro: Heh-heh... It's all good. We're just getting started! Right, Vet?
Vet: Answering that would be meaningless.
In contrast to Hiro's heated enthusiasm, Vet's tone remains ice-cold.
What appears to be a breakdown in communication ensues for a few turns.
Hiro: Hear the dragon's roar! Ignis Dragon!
Hiro: I activate its ability to evolve at no cost, as I have less than two cards in my hand!
Hiro: The Ignis Dragon attacks your Garuda, activating an effect that deals 3 damage to all your followers!
Vyrn: All righty! Vet's got nothing in his play area now!
Hiro: How about that? You're up!
Paying no heed to the overly zealous Hiro, Vet draws his next card.
Vet: I play Holy Bowman Kel.
        Hiro: ...!
        What is that follower?
Vet: Of course you wouldn't know. This card doesn't exist in any of your data.
Vet: Next, I use the Monastic Holy Water spell to restore 2 defense to myself.
Vet: That heal triggers Kel's ability, which deals 2 damage to you.
        Hiro: Ngh!
Vet: I play two Pegasus Sculptures.
Vet: At the end of my turn, their ability activates, restoring 1 defense to me and all my followers.
Vyrn: If Kel's ability stacks with that...
Vet: A most astute observation. Two Pegasus Sculptures, which means 4 damage to you.
        Hiro: Gwaah!
Taking major damage from the ability of a card he didn't know existed, Hiro has little defense left.
Yet he shows no signs of resignation, a bold, fearless grin evident on his visage.
Hiro: Heh-heh! You're good at this, Vet!
        Vet: ...
Why is it you remain smiling?
Hiro: Isn't it obvious? Because I'm having fun—
Vet: I thought you might say that. But that is impossible. Why is it so hard for you to understand?
Vet: I used a power beyond your comprehension, using cards you do not know to push you toward the verge of defeat.
Vet: I am your enemy. And this battle is nothing but despair to you. Admit it.
Hiro: Nah, that's not it. You're no enemy of mine.
Vet: Nonsense. How could you possibly see me as anything else after I devoured your friends before your very eyes.
Hiro: It's clear as day to me that you have your doubts and fears.
Hiro: You're a guy who doesn't understand his own feelings! And I know someone just like that!
        Hiro: His name's Resh!
        Vet: ...!
Hiro: And you should never feel despair when playing this game...
Hiro: Because it's never too late to turn the tables in Shadowverse!
Vet: You will vanish if you lose. Does the thought not frighten you?
Hiro: It sure does! But Shadowverse isn't just about winning or losing!
Hiro: If Resh is inside you, then you should be able to feel that, Vet!
        Vet: ...!
What surfaces in Vet's mind are remnants of memories that should no longer exist after being incorporated into him—
Fragments of time that Resh spent with Hiro and friends.
Vet: Silence! This cannot be... This is not me!
Vet: I will not allow myself to be distraught!
Hiro: Whether it's excitement or fear, joy or heartbreak... Take in those emotions! You know you want to!
Hiro: It's all a part of you! You shared a bond with us, and that hasn't changed!
Vet: As if I'd ever let that happen!
Vet: I use my admin privileges to forcibly execute the rule change program!
Navi System: Program execution confirmed. Transferring control of all games currently in progress to master.
        Ignis Dragon: ...
        Hiro: Ignis Dragon? What's wrong?
Hiro gasps in surprise at the sight of Ignis Dragon writhing in pain.
A hint of animosity is evident in its eyes.
Vyrn: Uh-oh! This can't be good!
Hiro: No way! How'd you do that without using any cards, Vet!
Hiro: How's my dragon your follower now?
Vet: It is my right as gamemaster. Your cards are all mine.
(Captain) tries to break into the match to even the odds, but Vet seals off the captain's movements.
        Hiro: (Captain)!
        Vet: Hiro Ryugasaki! It's over!
        Hiro: ...!
You really don't know anything, do you!
Vet: You still resist at this hour? I. Am. Superior!
Hiro: Man, I wish you could see your own face right now!
        Vet: ...!
Hiro: You're in pain! You're upset! Say it like it is, Vet!
        Vet: Silence... Silence, silence, silence!
Vet: Tear them apart! Ignis Dragon!
Following Vet's orders, the dragon lets out a pained roar.
        Hiro: ...!
Ignis Dragon slashes Hiro on the left side of his chest, bringing his defense down to 0.
        Hiro: Vet!
Vet: Goodbye, Hiro Ryugasaki. I'll be sure to make good use of your data.
        Vet snaps his fingers.
In the next moment, Hiro fades away, being absorbed into Vet as particles of light.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Chapter 6: Power of Bonds - Episode 4

With his new cheat mode-esque rules still in effect, Vet battles (Captain) next. Inside him, Hiro finds traces of Resh's consciousness and calls out to it. Resh awakens just enough to revert the rules that Vet forcibly changed, and to release the absorbed members of the entourage. Enraged by Resh's actions, Vet tries to devour all in the entourage once more.

Vet: You're the only one who remains standing, (Captain).
Hiro has been absorbed into Vet like the others.
Vet's words echo in the speechless captain's ears.
Vet: The island's rules have changed. Special rules meant for testing are currently in effect.
Vet: Do not think that whatever worked for you before will work now. Forcing bootup.
A light begins to glow from (Captain)'s crystal slate.
Vet: Being around you people results in deviations in my behavior. That cannot be allowed to happen.
Vet: Simply devouring you is the easiest recourse.
Vet plays the card he just drew.
Vyrn: Wha? Why's a 5-cost follower suddenly in play? You only have 5 play points!
Vet: Did I not mention special rules?
Vet: I can only have one card in my hand. But in exchange for that handicap, I can play cards at 0 cost.
Vet: Well then... Let's see how many turns you last.
Cold sweat beads down the captain's shoulders. What's about to transpire is likely going to be very one-sided.
        Hiro: Ngh...
As (Captain) fights an uphill battle, Hiro's consciousness seems to resurface.
He slowly opens his eyes to find immaculate, dizzying whiteness in every direction.
        Hiro: Where... am I...
Hiro: I was playing Shadowverse with Vet, and then...
Hiro: I remember! I lost, only to be absorbed by Vet.
Coming to grips with the situation, Hiro lets out a heavy sigh before collapsing with a thud.
Hiro: Vet. He looked hurt. He was sad. I wanted to do something for him...
A frail voice reaches Hiro's ears. He knows that voice.
Resh's Voice: This is not Shadowverse... It can't be...
A ball of light appears before Hiro. He leaps to attention and calls out to it.
        Hiro: That voice...
        Hiro: Resh! Is that you?
        Resh's Voice: I... All I wanted was...
        Hiro: ...!
        Can't you hear me?
Resh's Voice: I'm... Vet... A part of him... So I had to obey...
The tenuous voice begins to fade away alongside the ball of light, its outline no longer visible.
Hiro's intuition tells him that Resh will be gone for good if that should come to pass.
Clenching his fists, he shouts Resh's name at the top of his lungs.
Hiro: Resh! Believe me when I say that you're definitely your own person! I say that as your friend!
        Resh's Voice: ...
Hiro: There has to be something I can do for you! And for Vet!
Hiro: So c'mon back here, Resh!
Resh's Voice: (Someone is calling me...)
Before Resh's consciousness fades into darkness completely, it ever so slightly drifts back toward the light in response to Hiro.
Hiro's Voice: There has to be something I can do for you! And for Vet!
Hiro's Voice: So c'mon back here, Resh!
        Resh's Voice: (I am... a part of Vet... I am... Vet's... I...)
While half-asleep like a baby in a cradle, the next thing Resh hears is a pained scream.
Vyrn: Darn it! How are we supposed to fight back?
Vet: With only 6 defense left, the end is near for you. You did well surviving this long.

        (Captain): ...
        Djeeta is the Main Character

        (Captain): ...
Vyrn: We're gonna lose at this rate... And then we'll...
The events playing out are occurring outside of his consciousness. The part of him that isn't himself is hurting his friends.
As despicable as the actions of his other self are, there is little Resh can do.
Hiro's Voice: Resh! Believe me when I say that you're definitely your own person! I say that as your friend!
Resh's Voice: (Friend... Yes... I wanted to spend so much more time with you all...)
Resh's Voice: (We had so many great moments together... How I wished to share my joy with you...)
Hiro's Voice: So c'mon back here, Resh!
A fervent longing to respond to that request gives vigor to his consciousness.
Resh's Voice: (I am no longer myself. Returning as an individual is an impossibility.)
Resh's Voice: Yet... I really want to play more Shadowverse with everyone...
The faint trace of selfhood has a wish equally small.
The consciousness gradually grows in luminosity, forming more words, praying that they reach his friends.
Resh's Voice: Emotion itself is not a bad thing. Possibilities born of emotion can at times surpass absolute order.
Resh's Voice: I only wish that Vet, too, could understand this.
Resh's Voice: I will always be grateful to them for showing me what it means to have fun. It is such a wonderful sensation.
The glowing wish intensifies, breaking through its shell and pushing away the stagnant darkness.
Vet: This will be the end of you, (Captain)! My turn!
No longer able to withstand Vet's unstoppable barrage of attacks, the captain is prepared to bite the bullet.
        Navi System: Error. Insufficient cost.
        Vet: ...!
        That cannot be!
A beeping sound signifying an error rings loud. Vet's card shatters to pieces.
        Vyrn: What's going on?
        Vet: Impossible! I draw again!
Navi System: Error. Card already drawn.
Navi System: Transfer of admin privileges confirmed. Forcing shutdown.
All lights in the area turn off as if the power source has been shut down.
Navi System: Restoring backup... Rebooting. All settings have been reset to their default state.
        Vyrn: Look, (Captain)! You've recovered!
        Gran is the Main Character

A glance at the defense gauge shows that (Captain) is back to full defense.
        Djeeta is the Main Character

A glance at the defense gauge shows that (Captain) is back to full defense.
Vet: Admin transfer and system interference... This must be your doing, Resh!

As if reaffirming those words, (Captain)'s crystal slate shines bright. A card surfaces before the captain.
        Djeeta is the Main Character

As if reaffirming those words, (Captain)'s crystal slate shines bright. A card surfaces before the captain.
Resh's Voice: Call out... to them...
Vyrn: Hey, I know that voice!
(Captain) slips a few fingers on the card and plays it with a grand flourish.
        Vet: ...!
        No...
The card takes the form of a ray of light, piercing Vet in the chest.
Particles of light spew forth from the hole in his chest. Falling like snow, they eventually regain their proper forms.
        Lyria: Huh? Where am I?
Hiro: (Captain)! How am I still here after he sucked me in?
Vyrn: Lyria! Hiro! The rest of you guys are okay too!
Out of the light comes Lyria and those Vet had absorbed earlier.
Vet: An interface defying me? No, this couldn't possibly be happening!
Vet: If I can just devour the data of all interfaces and specimens, I... Our program will be complete! I will not let you get in the way!
Hiro: As if that'd actually mean anything, Vet.
        Vet: ...!
Hiro: Absorbing everything to become one giant blob kinda defeats the point.
Hiro: 'Cause you can't play Shadowverse by yourself. Having friends to play with is what makes it such a blast!
        Vet: Friends, you say...
Vet: Enough of this farce! Do not presume to know what I need!
A violent torrent surges around Vet.
Omoikane: I'll consume every last one of you by force!
Omoikane: You will be nothing more than fodder for me!
Hiro: Your heart is saying something else! You just don't know it yet!
Hiro: I'll show you what I mean!
A red-hot glow emanates from Hiro's phone, responding to his fiery determination.
Hiro: Let's go, (Captain)! Mimori! This is gonna be the final battle!
Hiro and (Captain) raise their devices up high.
        1. Shadowverse... Showdown!

        Choose: Shadowverse... Showdown!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Ending

Vet suffers a humiliating defeat, learning the hard way the power of emotion and the incredible effect Shadowverse can have in improving understanding between people. Resh is spared deletion and given new life as a second core of the primal beast Omoikane. As the incident comes to a peaceful close, Hiro and his friends are returned to their home world. Back on Genesis Island, Hiro continues where he left off with the Shadowverse Grand Prix.

Vet: Of course I knew. It was none other than me who was most fascinated with people.
Vet: But we cannot change. We were created as perfect beings, stripped of all emotion.
Vet: Yet we noticed that people, being the imperfect beings they are, far exceeded our expectations and made miracles happen time and time again.
Vet: They obviously have something we don't. Something we were never meant to have, and never will.
Vet: Or so I thought. After living in denial for all this time, I finally see the truth. You've opened up my eyes.
        Hiro: This is...
After delivering the final blow, (Captain) and company are engulfed by a light from Vet so intense, it could singe their brows.
When the light subsides, (Captain) and company open their eyes to find themselves in a pure white space.
Kazuki: Bleh! Not this place again!
Kai: Does this mean we lost?
Vet: Relax, this is a virtual space I've created. I did not absorb you this time.
        Hiro: Vet?
Vet: Your emotions overpowered me. I was the inferior one. The results are clear. Despite that fact...
Vet: I somehow feel refreshed. Is this what it feels like to lose, Hiro Ryugasaki?
Hiro: The important thing's that we made a connection, Vet!
Ferry: Why did you bring us here?
Vet: It's my way of keeping you safe.
Vet: Due to the rewritten rules being forcibly reversed so suddenly, the island itself is transforming.
The island is reverting to its prior state based on existing data.
Omoikane's power is greatly amplified on Kainourios, the primal's base of operations, to an extent which isn't entirely known.
To prevent (Captain) and friends from suffering any collateral damage, Vet transported them to this safe space.
Vet: All because of a certain someone's reckless actions... Wouldn't you agree, Resh?
Vet turns to a ball of light that takes the shape of a boy.
Resh: A surprising remark. I believe it was your impulsive rule-changing that led up to this.
        Hiro: Resh! You're all right!
Vet: Normally, interfaces that come back into me are turned into mere data before fading away to nothingness.
Vet: Therefore, newly born interfaces which share unique identifiers with old ones are not one and the same.
Lyria: But that Resh is just like the one we know...
Vet: Well, I did say normally.
Vet: But through his interactions with you, he was able to establish his own separate self as Omoikane-Resh.
In battling (Captain) and company, Vet sensed an ego within that wasn't his usual self.
That was when Vet decided to salvage Resh not as another interface, but as another core of Omoikane.
Hiro: Wait, you're saying you saved Resh?
Vet: Not exactly. The credit for that goes to you. All I did was create his vessel.
Vet: The time you spent with Resh was what gave him his sense of self.
Vet: And during our battle, you told me about his lingering wish.
Vet: Playing Shadowverse with you has taught me the potential of people and the value of friendship.
Vet: I watched the kindness and consideration you show your friends and the great passion with which you play the game.
Vet: I was wrong to think of Shadowverse as a mere tool for gathering data. It is so much more; it creates bonds, deepening mutual understanding and respect between people.
Free of the rancor that possessed him earlier, Vet speaks calmly. (Captain) and company are happy to listen.
Hiro: Great! So now we're all friends!
Vet and Resh trade glances at Hiro's cheery words.
Vet: Despite the cruelty I showed you earlier, you still shower me with such kindness.
Resh: Indeed. Hiro Ryugasaki is a hard one to understand.
Vet: Haha, I never thought not understanding something could be so comforting.
The two realize something and turn their gazes upward.
        Resh: Vet...
Vet: Yes. As unfortunate as it may be, it is time.
Vet: I've used up too much of my power. I'll be taking a long rest.
Vet: Once I've drifted off, the island's state prior to the introduction of Shadowverse will be restored.
And when that happens, Hiro and his friends, who were transported to the Sky Realm by Omoikane's power, will return to their worlds.
        Gran is the Main Character

In essence, it will be farewell between the crew and Hiro's group.
        Djeeta is the Main Character

In essence, it will be farewell between the crew and Hiro's group.
Kai: So I guess this is goodbye, huh...
Kazuki: Things got rough in the end, but I had a heck of a good time!
Mimori: Me too! I hope we'll see each other again someday!
Lyria: When that day comes, we'll take you around on the Grandcypher and visit all sorts of islands!
Ferry: You taught us so much. Next time, we'll be the ones teaching you.
Thelonim: I'm not gonna say goodbye! Because I don't want this to be goodbye for good!
Amid the chorus of farewell greetings, (Captain) and Hiro shake hands.
Hiro: Thanks for everything, (Captain). Take care!
        1. You too, buddy.
        2. Till we meet again.

        Choose: You too, buddy.
Vyrn: Good luck with the Shadowverse Grand Prix, Hiro! We'll be cheering you on!
        Hiro: 'Preciate it!

        Choose: Till we meet again.
Vyrn: We'll take you places next time you're here!
Hiro: Heh-heh, I'm looking forward to it!
        Continue 1
Hiro: Let's play Shadowverse again next time! That goes for you too, Resh! Vet!
Vet: Yes, that would be nice.
Vet and Resh too, exchange handshakes with Hiro.
Resh: Knowing you... has taught me so much about people.
Resh: All that you've taught me has allowed me to come into my own.
Resh: I, or rather, we will not forget this feeling.
        Resh: Thank you. And goodbye.
        Hiro: Mng... It's freezing!
        Hiro: Huh? I was asleep?
Hiro: Hm... Feels like I just woke up from a really long dream.
        Hiro: What could that be?
Hiro taps on his phone notification, opening up a messenger app.
"Till we meet again under the azure skies."
A vision of floating islands stretching across the vast, endless horizon flashes through Hiro's mind.
Hiro: Huh? What am I doing checking my messenger app?
Hiro: There's this strange, tingly feeling I can't seem to shake off... Meh, I'm sure it's nothing!
Hiro: It's time to catch up on all the progress lost from getting some shut-eye! Off I go!
Hiro: The battle starts here and now!
Hiro looks up to the boundless sky above.
His mind goes to that special place beyond the horizon.
        The End

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 1

        Kai: ...
Hiro: What's up, Kai? You drop something?
Kai: I'm simply inspecting the fauna that grows here. I don't think I've ever seen plants like these in Nekome.
Kazuki: Yeah, that checks out—we're basically in a whole different world!
Kazuki: They even got real monsters here, ya know? They might even give the animals at Genesis Island a run for their money!
Mimori: It doesn't seem like there are many monsters on this island, though...
Mimori: But if we see any, we should definitely let (Captain) know!
Kazuki: Got that right! Man, aren't skyfarers just the coolest or what?!
Hiro: Not to mention pretty good at Shadowverse, too! (Captain) just started playing but already has some sweet combos!
Mimori: Ferry's pretty incredible too! She got the hang of Necromancy effects just like that—not anyone can do that.
Kai: The opportunity to obtain data from Shadowverse players from another world... I admit I am quite intrigued.
Hiro: Man, I'm getting hyped just talking about it! Let's go see if (Captain) and the others are up for some more Shadowverse!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 2

Thelonim: Uh, Vyrn? How much attack did that follower have again?
Vyrn: That one? Two, I think.
Thelonim: Oh yeah, thanks! Okay... I think I got it now!
Hiro: What're you two up to?
Thelonim: Good timing, Hiro! We're actually working on some Shadowverse strats right now!
Vyrn: If you write 'em down like this, you can memorize the effects for all the cards!
Thelonim: Not only that, but you can even make imaginary decks with them and practice by yourself! Pretty smart, huh?
Hiro: Whoa, now that's an idea! Mind if I join in on the fun?
Thelonim: Sure, thanks! In that case, I'll leave the Dragoncraft cards up to you!
Hiro: You got it! I never knew you could enjoy Shadowverse like this!
Thelonim: Hehe. Right? By the way, you think we could actually play a match after this?
Hiro: Sure thing! You know I'm always ready for a game!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 3

Mimori: Wow... There are so many outfits here!
Ferry: Apparently it's the largest boutique in town. To be honest, it isn't often I come to places like this, so I don't know if this is what's in vogue right now...
Mimori: It's fine, I'm not too in touch with what's fashionable either... But just looking at all the different outfits here is fun in itself!
At that moment, the two prospective shoppers are suddenly confronted by a salesclerk with the dreaded question: "Can I help you find anything?"
        Mimori & Ferry: Oh.
Mimori: Um, uh... We're j-just looking! Th-thank you!
Ferry: Th-that's right... We were just leaving, actually.
        Mimori & Ferry: Sigh...
Mimori: Ahaha... Sorry, I get nervous whenever shop attendants talk to me.
Ferry: You too? I feel the same way, actually.
Ferry: Let's prepare ourselves so that we're ready next time. As long as we practice for the real deal, it should be a cakewalk... I hope.
Mimori: Yeah! As long as we're in it together!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 4

Hiro: Either way, I'm just glad you two are okay!
Kai: The same goes for you, Hiro. It was most fortunate that we encountered (Captain) so soon.
Kai: Not only that, but it seems that real dragons exist in this world. We were lucky enough to end up on an island without them.
Kai: If one were to suddenly appear, I imagine we'd be in for a world of trouble.
        Kazuki: Dragons, huh?
        Hiro: What's up, Kaz?
Kazuki: Just... I wonder what a real dragon's like, ya know?
Kazuki: Not just a follower card, but a real-life dragon! In the flesh!
Hiro: You're right... Shame there aren't any here though, huh.
Kai: Just promise me you two won't go off looking for one on your own.
Hiro: Don't you worry about that, heh.
Kazuki: Y-yeah... There's no way we'd ever, uh...
        Kai: You'd. Better. Not. Understand?
        Hiro: Y-yessir!
        Kazuki: Talk about scary, yeesh.

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 5

Mimori: Phew... Tonight's dinner was amazing!
Lyria: It sure was—I made sure to eat my fill tonight!
Mimori: I'm surprised there were so many dishes here similar to food in our own world, like pasta and steak.
Mimori: But do you have fish here, too?
Lyria: We do! But we can only get seafood from Auguste, so it's a bit of a delicacy.
Mimori: I see! So do you have a favorite kind of fish?
Lyria: I love all of them, but Salmun might be my favorite! I love their orange color and how rich every bite is!
Lyria: And we have more seafood, like urkins and prawns... It's all delicious to me!
Mimori: They sound a little different, but I think we have those in our world too!
Lyria: Do you really? I'd love to try them out someday!
Mimori: Ahaha... It would be nice if you could come visit our world too.
Lyria: Of course—I'll eat my fill there too!
Mimori: Yay! I'll give you the grand tour myself!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 6

Hiro: How about this? The Grandcypher! Grandcypher ramen!
Hiro: With huge, airship-sized pieces of pork! Enough to cover the whole bowl!
Kazuki: I would crush that! I mean, if I could... Might be a bit much, ya think?
        Hiro: Hmm. Yeah, maybe...
Hiro: Then how's this? Luminiera ramen, imbued with the radiance of light magic!
Kazuki: Hold up, Hiro. Uhh... last I checked, there aren't any wizards in my family.
Hiro: Ngh... You're right. This is harder than I thought!
Mimori: Hey, you two. (Captain) just wanted me to let you know that we're about to take off soon.
Mimori: Is something wrong? You two seem a bit out of it.
Hiro: Oh, Mimori! I'll bet you'll be able to come up with something brilliant for us again!
Kazuki: We're tryna come up with somethin' new for the restaurant—but using something from this world as inspo!
        Mimori: Something from this world?
Hiro: That's right! We'll make something literally out of this world! Our world, I mean.
Mimori: Hmm... Something out of this world...
Mimori: How about an azure ramen? Since the sky here's so blue.
        Kazuki: Azure?
        Hiro: Ramen?
Mimori: Ahaha... Sorry, that doesn't sound very good, does it?
Kazuki: No... It could work. It could totally work!
Hiro: That'll really get the town talking! Thanks again, Mimori!
Mimori: Hehe. Glad I could help. Now that that's settled, we need to get ready for—
Kazuki: What could we do to make it blue, anyway? Blueberries?
Hiro: I'm sure you could do it with some kinds of fish, like a blueback herring or something!
Mimori: Ahaha... Um, guys? What about takeoff?

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 7

Hiro: Whoa... Primal Beasts are so cool!
Hiro: Like, you just know there's incredible power sealed inside of them or something! That's totally awesome!
Hiro: Don't you guys think so?
Lyria: Yeah, they've been invaluable to us so far!
Vyrn: You said it—always there to save the day when we need 'em!
Hiro: Kinda like how Ignis Dragon can get you out of trouble in Shadowverse!
Hiro: And maybe someday I'll be able to use Ignis Dragon to get you guys out of a tight situation too!
Vyrn: Heh, lookin' forward to it!
Lyria: You've already done plenty for us by teaching us everything we know about Shadowverse!
Hiro: Don't sweat it! If it's Shadowverse, you can count on me anytime!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 8

Kai: Ferry, Vyrn... I'd like to ask you two for a favor if you don't mind.
Vyrn: The two of us? That's a combination you don't see everyday.
Ferry: No need to be shy. What can we do for you?
Kai: Th-thank you. To be honest, it's about your pets, Ferry. Not to mention you as well, Vyrn...
Kai: I'd... I'd like to pet them!
        Ferry: P-pet them?
Kai: It's just... I've wanted to see how their drifting, nearly ethereal forms felt ever since I first set my eyes on them!
Kai: I would've wanted to record some data on them, but unfortunately I don't have any of my usual tools. At least let me see how they feel!
Vyrn: Uh... I mean, I guess that's fine. Are you good with it, Ferry?
Ferry: If that's all you're asking, I don't mind at all. How about it, Beppo?
        Beppo: ...!
Kai: Thank you very much! Now then, Beppo, Vyrn... Here I go!
Kai: So exquisitely squishy... Incredible! Oho...
Vyrn: You know, I didn't think this kid was gonna be this, uh... spirited when we first met.
        Ferry: Haha...

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 9

Thelonim: Wow, there really are all sorts of cards in Swordcraft, huh?
Kazuki: You bet! Making your own decks in Shadowverse is half the fun!
Kazuki: Le'see here... What card should I replace this one with...
        Thelonim: Huh? Wait... that card!
Kazuki: Huh? You mean Pompous Princess here?
Thelonim: A princess... it's the princess!
Kazuki: Wh-whoa, what's gotten into you all of a sudden? What about this princess?
Thelonim: In old folktales about heroes, the princess is someone destined for the hero, someone to live happily ever after with!
Kazuki: Oh yeah... We got stories like that back in our world too.
Thelonim: Swordcraft really is amazing! There aren't only sword-wielding knights, but princess cards too!
Thelonim: I definitely made the right choice!
Kazuki: Heh, that's what I like to hear! There are other princess cards too if you wanna see.
Thelonim: Seriously? Please tell me more about them, Kazuki!
        Kazuki: Sure, you got it!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 10

Hiro: Say, Vyrn... Like, you're a dragon, right?
Vyrn: You bet I am! You've got quite the eye to recognize me as one, cuz I ain't no...
Vyrn: Actually, forget it. Why'd you ask?
Hiro: I was just thinking about what kind of dragon you'd be if you evolved.
        Vyrn: What's that mean?
Hiro: Like if you could evolve, I bet you'd be a crazy cool dragon with all sorts of power!
Vyrn: Yeah... It'd be cool if I could become a dragon just like your Ignis Dragon someday!
Hiro: Become just like Ignis Dragon, huh... You guys would be an unbeatable combo!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 11

Lyria: I love your hair clip, Mimori! It's super cute!
Mimori: Thanks, Lyria... It's my favorite.
        Ferry: Hehe, I can tell.
Mimori: Huh? Oh no, what kind of face was I making just now?
Ferry: Oh, it's just... You had such a fond expression.
Mimori: I see... A very special person also complimented my hair clip once.
Mimori: We're nothing alike, the two of us. But when we played Shadowverse, I know I felt a special connection with her.
Lyria: Wow... I want to play a game of Shadowverse with you too, Mimori!
Mimori: What's this all of a sudden?
Lyria: I mean, I want to make a special connection with you too!
Ferry: Yeah... How about it, Mimori? Lyria and myself against you in a game of Shadowverse.
Mimori: Of course! I want to get to know you too much better as well—bring it on!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 12

Thelonim: Argh! I lost again exactly on the turn Kai said I would!
Kai: You played well, but were you able to understand how Spellboost works?
Thelonim: Oh... now I get it! I should've realized on the turn you played Chrono Witch!
Thelonim: You're amazing, Kai! I can't believe you analyzed it all so quickly—you really are a genius among geniuses!
Kai: Ah, er, well... But of course I am. You're too kind, really...
        Kazuki: Whatcha guys up to?
Thelonim: I was just telling Kai that he really is a genius among geniuses!
Kazuki: I've been wondering about that rule for a while actually, ya know?
        Kai: What do you mean?
Kazuki: Like, remember when you lost to Hiro and downgraded yourself to just a regular ol' genius? When did "genius among geniuses" come back?
Kai: Allow me to explain. I simply rank myself as either a genius among geniuses, genius, or average.
Kai: When defeating a skilled opponent, I'm a genius among geniuses. If I am to lose, I'm simply a genius. If I lose to them again, I'll declare myself to be just average.
Kazuki: Huh... So what if you beat me?
        Kai: You don't count.
Kazuki: But what if I beat you?
Kai: Like I said, you don't count.
Kazuki: What's that even supposed to mean!
Thelonim: Wow... He really is a genius among geniuses!

Shadowverse: Beyond the Sky - Day 13

Thelonim: There's still so much we don't know about Shadowverse, huh?
Ferry: That's true... I've never experienced anything quite like Shadowverse in all of my years.
Hiro: What're you guys up to?
Ferry: Nothing, really... We were just talking about how there's still much for us to learn about Shadowverse.
Thelonim: We're exchanging the tips and tricks we've learned so far!
Ferry: There are lots of classes you can utilize in Shadowverse, after all. It's important to understand not only your own class, but what your opponent is capable of too.
Hiro: Yeah! Understanding your opponent's strengths and weaknesses is the key to winning!
Hiro: But most importantly, never give up, no matter how bad things look!
