| Yusuf is a young Erune who once served in the guard under Volenna, while Nasir is a young man who was born to an affluent Human family and became a priest through his own knowledge and efforts. When Yusuf lost his family to the Manawydan disasters, Nasir's parents took him in and raised the two boys like siblings. While Yusuf served in the guard and Nasir in the holy order, they could only watch as Sable was ruined by its adherence to outdated customs. Nasir and other young priests began to accumulate revenue by developing Sable's tourism and foreign commerce, which sparked other young islanders to consider the history as well as the future of their home. All of them now work to stop the disputes over the island's scant resources as well as the cycle of sacrifice and blame. The younger islanders' anxiety over the future may well be what first spurred the priests to employ the sand spirit to defend against Manawydan. Perhaps it is when people are joined by common cause that Sable Island can move forward into a new future. |
