A Soul Reaper and captain of Squad 10 of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads. Known as a child prodigy, he is the youngest in history to assume the post of squad captain. In contrast with his young appearance, however, he is remarkably mature and maintains an icy cool presence of mind in all things.
He and his lieutenant, Matsumoto, appear to be a rather odd duo. Hitsugaya is often at the mercy of Matsumoto—a freewheeling woman with a tendency to slack off on work—giving him an impression of being someone long-suffering and wise to the world.
His Zanpakuto is called Hyorinmaru, and when he releases its power, the blade transforms, and he can create dragons of ice and water. His Bankai is called Daiguren Hyorinmaru, which gives Hitsugaya wings of ice and creates three massive crystals of ice that float behind him. This ability amplifies Hyorinmaru's powers further, and with Uruki, Chichiri, and Matsumoto's cooperation, he uses it to completely sweep away the Hollowfied monsters.
