A Tale of Intersecting Fates - Opening

According to legend, all who have seen Vacheron—the primal beast with the power to manipulate space-time—have disappeared without a trace. For this, Vacheron is widely feared. However, this primal beast has at times used its power to guide heroes from other worlds. Why is it bringing two worlds together now?

Vacheron, the primal beast that can manipulate space-time, is regarded as a figure of fear and awe.
Legends say that all who have laid eyes upon it have been wiped from the world without a trace.
While Vacheron may be responsible for these sudden disappearances, in some legends, its motives go beyond mere mischief.
Rumors abound about certain historical figures, including renowned heroes, artists, and scientists.
They say that Vacheron may have guided them from another world...
Milla: Where am I?
It's so dark...
Milla: Is there no end to this darkness?
Milla: No...

This feeling...

Wind? No, sky?
And now, be it with purpose or mere whimsy, Vacheron is bringing two worlds together...

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 1

(Captain) manages to catch what appears to be a person falling from the sky on the Grandcypher's stern. The woman, somehow unharmed by the fall, baffles the party by claiming she has been "sent to an unforeseen world." She is soon followed by a swarm of unfamiliar monsters descending from the sky above.

The crew of the Grandcypher has assembled on deck during a leisurely journey. They're enjoying a refreshing breeze and an unusually blue sky.
Lyria: You're right, (Captain). The breeze feels wonderful today!
Vyrn: Yeah! All this fresh air is making me hungry!
Katalina: Is that right, Vyrn? Then maybe I should try making something special for today's lunch...
Vyrn: Urk! N-No... I, I... I just remembered I had... that apple earlier, so I really shouldn't. Th-Thanks, though!
Katalina: Oh... But let me know when you change your mind. I'm always happy to show off my cooking skills!
As the party enjoys their usual high-spirited banter, Lyria finds herself gazing wistfully into the sky.
Lyria: This really is such a beautiful day... Huh?!
As her blue eyes look up to the sky, they catch a glimpse of a human-like silhouette.
Lyria: (Captain)! Look! Up there, someone... Someone's falling!
Katalina: What the heck?!
(Captain) races to the helm and steers the Grandcypher into the falling woman's path.
Vyrn: Watch out! The wind's picking up!
(Captain) manages to get the shuddering Grandcypher into position, catching the woman at its stern.
Katalina: Lyria! Are you okay?!
Lyria: Y-Yeah... I'm fine, but...
Lyria: Oh no! She must be hurt! We have to help her!
Katalina: Lyria, the impact from that fall... I'm sorry, but the odds she survived are remote at best.
Katalina: (Captain) and I will take a look. You wait here.
The planks on the stern shattered from the impact, kicking up a thick cloud of dust.
Katalina: This doesn't look good. Hey, if you're alive in there—
???: My apologies. I never anticipated that I might hit a ship in the sky.
???: Hm. What exactly is keeping this ship aloft?
A woman with a vaguely mystical appearance emerges from the crater of broken planks, not a single scratch upon her.
???: I sense no sign of the Four. Yet why would they...
Vyrn: Uh... Lady? Are you okay?!
???: Yes. Sylph granted my body a slight increase in buoyancy.
???: But now she seems to have abandoned her master.
As the crew stares at her, mouths agape, the mysterious woman casually brushes dust out of her hair, her face expressionless.
Her large pupils lock onto (Captain)'s eyes, and she opens her mouth to speak.
???: You there. Do you know of any places near here that are favored by spirits?
???: In addition to being sent to this unforeseen world, I've apparently been separated from my spirit companions.
Katalina: "Unforeseen world"...? What are you talking about?
Vyrn: Bwah! What the heck?! We got a swarm of monsters descending—and I've never seen anything like them before!
Katalina: Has the world gone mad? Argh! Well, we better fight 'em off, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 1: Scene 2

The party braces for the onslaught of descending monsters. The woman who fell on the deck picks up her sword to fight at their side.

Katalina: Yeesh... It's just one thing after another!
???: Again, I should apologize. I must have inadvertently led those monsters here.
Katalina: You brought those things here?! Oh, this is unbelievable.
The woman reaches beneath the planks of the broken deck to recover a weapon the crew had never seen before. She raises it toward the monster swarm.
???: I will take responsibility for this.
Katalina: Are you out of your mind?! Get below deck to safety!
???: I am Maxwell. Tremble at the might of the Lord of Spirits!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 2

After the party fights off the monsters, the woman introduces herself as Milla Maxwell. She explains her situation, but the ever-vigilant Katalina is openly dubious of her story. The tension is broken by Milla's rumbling stomach. Even Katalina relents and allows Milla to join the party for lunch.

???: Hm. I may not be at my best, but it seems I can still handle minor threats.
Vyrn: Wow, you're incredible! I've never seen moves like that before!
???: Well, time spent honing one's body does result in greater capability.
???: I may no longer have access to the powers of the Four, but I still possess enough physical strength to handle myself in combat.
Lyria: Wow. You're really something! Might I ask your name?
While Lyria strives to greet the unexpected visitor with kindness, Katalina abruptly reins her in.
Lyria: K-Katalina?!
Katalina: Identify yourself! The way you move, the techniques you use... You're no civilian.
Katalina: Not to mention the fact that you've walked away from a fall that would have killed any normal human!
Katalina: Unless you're looking for a tour of the ship's brig, you'll want to consider your answer carefully.
Vyrn: Geez, take it easy, Katalina!
Lyria: Why are you being so hostile?
???: You've nothing to fear from me, lady knight. I see no reason for conflict between us.
Katalina: Then maybe you should answer my question!
Milla: I am Milla Maxwell, the Lord of Spirits. I had come to the human realm on important business.
Milla: My human companions and I were investigating a town for reported abnormalities when we encountered a strange presence with unusual powers.
Milla: I engaged it with the Four Great Spirits under my control, but it fought back fiercely and knocked me into a dimensional rift.
Milla: Apparently the Four and I ended up becoming separated. And that's how I met you. Does that assuage your concerns?
Katalina: Human realm? Dimensional rifts? I was wondering how you could possibly explain this, but... That's just nonsense!
Milla: Hmm. I see. Apparently this is difficult for you to understand.
Katalina: Oh, I understand when I'm being jerked around just fine. You claim you're the Lord of Spirits? Let's see some proof.
Lyria: What should we do, (Captain)?! I don't like that look in Katalina's eyes...
Vyrn: Come on, (Captain)! We gotta stop her!
  1. Let's talk her out of it
  2. Her hair's gone all frizzy...

Choose: Let's talk her out of it
Choose: Her hair's gone all frizzy...
Just then, a strange noise rings out, breaking the mounting tension.
Vyrn: What?
Lyria: Huh?
Vyrn: Wow, Lyria! That was inappropriate. And that's coming from me!
Lyria: M-Me?! That wasn't me!
Milla: Sorry. That was me.
Vyrn: ...
Lyria: ...
After a moment of awkward silence, no one could hold back their laughter any longer.
Vyrn: Pfft... Heh... Aha ha ha ha ha ha! Oh, wow. Are you hungry, Ms. Lord of Spirits?
Milla: From that rumbling, it appears that indeed, I am. I would be grateful for any food you could spare.
Milla: I shouldn't attempt to return to my world on an empty stomach. Nor would it make my search for the Four any easier.
Lyria: Oh, of course. Well, shall we, (Captain)? It is lunchtime!
Lyria: Do you mind, Katalina? I really don't think she's a bad person.
Katalina: Well... fine. Do as you like.
Katalina: I don't know... I guess I'm over it.
And so the beautiful Milla Maxwell (with the rumbling stomach) arrives in Phantagrande from a world beyond the sky.
Not all of the crew of the Grandcypher greeted her warmly.
But (Captain)'s crew would come to learn more about the Lord of Spirits, and her important mission.
In the days that followed, [nickname]'s crew introduced her to the many islands of the skydom.
Milla: Hm. There seems to be quite a wide variety of societies living on this world.
Lyria: That's right! People of all stripes live together in harmony here.
Milla: The fact that such diverse peoples can live in peace speaks well of your world.
Milla: Are there many beings like you, Vyrn?
Vyrn: Like me? Nope. I've never met anyone like me before.
Milla: I know of a plush toy that can fly and speak the human tongue. But you're not one of those, right?
Vyrn: Heck no! Do I look like a stuffed animal?!
Katalina: ...
Lyria: Katalina... Are you still suspicious of Milla?
Katalina: You bet. There's still a great deal we don't know about her background and true nature.
Katalina: For all we know she could be an imperial assassin. Or she could be in the thrall of a primal beast, or driven by dark essence...
Lyria: She's not, Katalina. I'll grant you that she's a little odd, but I can't imagine she's any of those things.
Katalina: Lyria... You need to be a little more wary of strangers.
Lyria: But sometimes when I'm talking with Milla, I feel the way I do when I'm with you.
Katalina: You do? I can't imagine anything that she and I have in common.
Lyria: It's not anything physical. It's more... how to put this...
Lyria: You both know exactly who you are, and have such confidence in yourselves.
Lyria: And your voices kind of sound alike, too!
Katalina: Our voices...?
Milla: If I may ask, (Captain), why are you traveling with all of these people?
Vyrn: We're on a journey to Estalucia, the island at the end of the sky!
Milla: That's some sort of uncharted island?
Vyrn: Yep! They say in the whole skydom, (Captain)'s dad is the only person who's ever made it there!
Milla: I see. But what will you do once you arrive there?
Vyrn: Huh?
Milla: I'm sure you want to do more than merely lay eyes upon it.
Milla: So what is it you wish to accomplish there?
Vyrn: A-Accomplish there...? Why are you so interested in this?
A familiar voice cut's (Captain) off before an answer could be given.
Sierokarte: Oh, looky! The gang's all here.
Lyria: Siero! I didn't know you were on this island.
Sierokarte: Well, I hate to admit it, but it's not by choice. My supply ship crashed and now I'm stuck here.
Katalina: That's horrible! Did you get caught in a storm or something?
Sierokarte: No, nothing like that. This black whirlpool just suddenly appeared along my route...
Milla: A black whirlpool?!
Sierokarte: Hmm? Whom do we have here?
Lyria: This is Milla! We kind of ran into her, and now we're helping her find her missing spirits.
Milla: I don't suppose you happened to see any sort of spirit-like being near this whirlpool?
Milla: Specifically, a spirit of fire, water, earth, or wind. They would not have been subtle.
Sierokarte: A spirit, you say...? Well, regardless, I fled here as quickly as I could, so I didn't see much of anything.
Milla: I see.
Vyrn: So what's the deal, Milla. You know something about that whirlpool?
Milla: I certainly do. Being sucked into a black whirlpool is how I ended up on this world.
Vyrn: Wh-What? That means...
Lyria: That means that if we follow the whirlpools, we might learn what happened to your spirits!
Sierokarte: Ooh, sounds like you're onto something interesting here.
Sierokarte: Well, if there's intel to be found about this whirlpool, I'm the girl to find it. Leave it to me!
Milla: Thank you. I appreciate that.

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 3

After parting with Sierokarte, (Captain)'s party heads to a pub. As they're enjoying a fine meal and friendly banter, Milla overhears a drunken conversation about the whirlpool that snared her and the Four Great Spirits. When Milla asks for more details, the men invite her to join them for a "tumble." Milla nods, leads them to a secluded spot, and draws her sword.

After parting with Sierokarte, the party went to eat lunch at a local pub.
Milla: There are a great many unusual ingredients on this world, and they all seem delicious.
Lyria: Isn't it? The lunch menu here is wonderful. Here, try some of this!
Milla: Drool... Well, if you insist...
Milla: Oh! This is quite tasty!
Vyrn: Wow. Those two are just packing it away...
Katalina: ...
Milla: Are you not hungry, lady knight?
Katalina: What do you care when and what I eat?
Milla: I was merely going to suggest you eat your soup while it's still hot, lest its exceptional flavor fade.
Milla: And that would be an insult to the chef, would it not? If it's not to your liking, I would be happy to—
Katalina: Argh! You're driving me crazy...
Katalina: Listen. (Captain) may fully trust you, but I don't, understand?
Vyrn: Hey, come on Katalina! Can't we just have a nice lunch here?
Milla: Vyrn, look. This pastry is full of apples. Do you want half?
Vyrn: Whoa! Heck yeah I want half! Thanks, Milla, you're the best!
Katalina: What? Now you're trying to get your hooks into Vyrn! What game are you playing at here?
The lunchtime crowd is a lively one, and a group of men who have been drinking heavily suddenly begin raising their voices.
Tavern Regular 1: I'm tellin' ya, I saw it with my own two eyes! A big black whirlpool of darkness!
Tavern Regular 2: Ah, this story again! You forget you told me this 100 times already? Next comes the part about the prime beast or whatever.
Tavern Regular 1: It's a primal beast, you moron. You don't know anything!
Tavern Regular 2: You're the moron, ranting about having met some primal beast!
Tavern Regular 1: You wouldn't be callin' me that if you'd seen the ace moves I pulled to steer clear of that whirlpool!
Tavern Regular 1: If it wasn't for me, that airship woulda been done for!
Suddenly on her feet, Milla approaches the arguing men, leaving her dumbfounded companions behind.
Katalina: Where's she going?
Milla: You there. Would you tell me this story, in greater detail?
Tavern Regular 1: Who the hell are you, lady?
Tavern Regular 2: H-Hey! Mind your manners, pal. This lady's quite a looker!
Milla: Where did you see this black whirlpool? Did anything emerge from it?
Tavern Regular 1: All right, sweetheart. How about you join me and my friend here for a little tumble, and we'll tell ya everything you wanna know.
Milla: Very well, I believe I'm familiar with your euphemism. But we can't do it here—let's go somewhere private.
Katalina: What does she think she's doing? Come on (Captain), we gotta go after her!
Tavern Regular 1: Heh heh heh. Taking us to a private spot like this, she's a saucy one all right. Not that I mind.
Tavern Regular 2: Are you that surprised, the way she dresses? Where do you even buy clothes like that?
Milla: This should be sufficient.
Milla spins to face the men and, still stone-faced, draws and levels her blade at them.
Tavern Regular 2: Wh-What?! Are you outta your mind, lady? You wanna fight us or something?!
Tavern Regular 1: You trying to roll us?! Well, takin' you down ought to sober us right up!
Katalina: Exactly what I was afraid of! We've got to put a stop to this, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 3: Scene 2

Milla overpowers the drunks, and demands information about the whirlpool. But the commotion has attracted the imperial guard. The party drags Milla away, and when she complains, Katalina becomes furious. Milla, understanding how Katalina feels, apologizes to the party and declares she will leave. As they protest her decision, Sierokarte appears, reporting that the whirlpool has been spotted again.

Nosy Man: A fight! There's a fight! A beautiful swordswoman is fighting some guys over here!
Panicky Woman: What? Rioting in the streets?! Somebody call the city guard!
Innocent Child: Whoa. That lady's hair is so pretty. Look how bouncy it is!
The people of the city rushed to the scene of the fight...
Attracted both by the disturbance and the appearance of the perpetrator, a crowd forms around Milla.
Tavern Regular: All right, all right! I give up! Uncle!
Milla: Very well. You've had your "tumble." Now tell me what I want to know.
Milla: I've become separated from my spirits. They're like family to me.
Milla: I believe they were sucked into the black whirlpool along with me, and brought to this world.
Milla: And now it is imperative that I find them. Do you know anything that could help me locate them?
Katalina: That's enough! We've gotta get out of here!
Someone had alerted the city guard, but they weren't coming alone—imperial troops from the local garrison were also running to the scene.
Panicky Woman: This way, officers! They're over here!
Katalina: Oh, no... We need to blend into the crowd and disappear.
Vyrn: We gotta get outta here!
Lyria: Milla, this way! Hurry!
Milla: Why? These men have vital information.
Katalina: Shut up and start running! NOW!
Dragging Milla by her arm, Katalina and the rest of the crew split up and flee the scene.
By disappearing into the gathering crowd, they successfully elude both the city guard and imperial forces.
In order to ensure her safety, (Captain) leads Lyria out of the city via a different route.
Milla: Huff... With Sylph at my side... Huff... I rarely need to run...
Katalina: Huff... What the hell is wrong with you!
Milla: Huh? Oh, I shouldn't complain. I'm sure you have it much harder... Huff... having to run in that armor...
Katalina: What I'm mad about... Huff... is being forced to run in the first place!
Milla: Then... why did you pull me away?
Milla: I... Huff... may have been on the verge... of acquiring valuable information!
Katalina: You insufferable... Grrrrr!
Biting her lip in exasperation, Katalina suddenly turns and slaps Milla across her face.
Milla: Huh?
Katalina: Your thoughtless actions nearly got us spotted by the empire!
Katalina: If we hadn't pulled off that lucky escape, Lyria... Lyria might have been captured!
Katalina: I know we haven't told you why (Captain) and I are working so hard to keep her safe...
Katalina: But you're not the only one with a mission here!
Katalina: I don't know if this Lord of Spirits nonsense is true or not, but I'm going to make this crystal clear for you.
Katalina: If you're gonna keep pulling selfish stunts like that, then get the hell away from us!
Just then, (Captain) and Lyria emerge from the shadows, a shocked look upon their faces.
Vyrn: Katalina...
Lyria: ...
Katalina: L-Lyria! Did you overhear that?!
Milla: Lady knight... You are in the right. I apologize.
Katalina: Huh?
Milla: Your desire to protect Lyria is of no less importance than my desire to complete my own mission.
Milla: And despite my professed admiration for your world...
Milla: I have been remiss in my consideration of the few companions I have here.
Milla: Your anger is appropriate. I am sorry.
Katalina: I... oh... I didn't think you'd...
Milla: I will part ways with you here. I am grateful for the help you've provided.
Vyrn: Whoa! Whoa! Let's not get hasty here! Let's talk this over!
Lyria: Th-That's right! I know we'll find your spirits soon if we all keep working together!
Milla: Vyrn, Lyria, I thank you. But it is critical that I complete my mission.
Milla: Whereas you have your own priorities. We should split up to focus on our own duties.
Katalina: This "critical mission" you keep mentioning... What exactly do you mean...?
Milla: Ah. Perhaps I should—
Sierokarte: Hey! Is everyone okay?
Vyrn: Siero! What are you doing here?
Sierokarte: Hee hee! I heard from some locals that people matching your description had fled this way.
Sierokarte: But forget about that! Your black whirlpool has reappeared!
Milla: What? Where?
Sierokarte: An adrift skyfarer crew was just rescued nearby.
Sierokarte: They said they encountered something like your whirlpool on a small island not far from this one.
Katalina: You know the exact location?
Sierokarte: I do! I'll mark it on your map.
How had Milla been brought to Phantagrande, and why? (Captain)'s party had just obtained its first vital clue...

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 4

Having received information about the black whirlpool from Sierokarte, (Captain)'s party races to its location. Along the way, Katalina and Milla talk, resolving their misunderstandings. As Milla discusses her mission with Katalina, the airship is forced into an emergency landing on a small island. With the whirlpool in sight, Milla and the party head out to confront it together.

Thanks to information provided by Sierokarte, (Captain)'s party was a step closer to finding the black whirlpool.
The Grandcypher soars through the night sky en route to the location she provided.
Milla: I'm sorry. I hadn't intended to involve you in this any further.
Vyrn: I told you, it's fine! Helping people is kinda (Captain)'s thing.
The formerly cool breeze builds to a biting wind.
Preoccupied with the weather, (Captain) suddenly notices that Lyria has been clutching at the cuff of their shirt.
Lyria: (Captain)... I... I have a bad feeling about this.
Milla: Don't worry. I won't expose you to danger again.
Lyria: No, Milla—it's not that! Promise me you won't go off and try to do this by yourself!
The wind continues to build. Katalina notices Milla's uncharacteristically subdued expression, and approaches her.
Katalina: Do you have a minute?
Milla: Of course.
Katalina: Listen... I'm sorry about before.
Milla: Before...? Oh, that. It's fine.
Katalina: No, it's not. I let my emotions get the better of me. I even raised a hand to you!
Katalina: As a knight, my behavior was disgraceful.
Milla: That may be true. You certainly put your strength into that slap!
Katalina: Th-That's why I'm apologizing!
Milla: Heh.
Katalina: Wh-What's so funny?!
Milla: It's nothing. I was just realizing how human you are.
Milla: I bet people find that aspect of you charming. Perhaps even cute?
Katalina: C-Cute? What are you even talking about?
Milla: I must admit that coming here and meeting you—not just you, but Lyria and (Captain) as well—has rekindled my interest in humanity.
Milla: Even if I'm able to return to my world and accomplish my mission, I would love to traverse these skies with you again one day.
After Milla said those words, the winds cease. The Grandcypher soars quickly through the clouds.
Then, before their eyes, a sky full of stars appears, so bright that it seems to illuminate the entire world.
Katalina: Oh!
Milla: What a spectacular night sky...
Milla: To think this sky still holds more surprises...
Milla's hair glimmers more beautifully than ever in the light of night.
Strangely, it was seeing this that finally convinced Katalina that Milla was a Lord of Spirits from another world.
Katalina: Milla...
Milla: Yes?
Katalina: What is your mission?
Milla: Hmm? Had we not discussed this? It is to protect the world of man and spirits.
Milla: I exist to ensure that humans and spirits are still living in harmony for millennia to come.
Milla: But in my world, that future is currently being threatened. I cannot allow that to happen.
Milla: It is my duty as Maxwell, the lord who governs spiritkind.
Katalina: Maxwell... The Lord of Spirits...
Just then, the Grandcypher is enveloped once more in a thick black mist. The ship shakes so violently that even its seasoned crew is forced to their knees.
Katalina: Bwah!
Milla: Are you okay?
Katalina: Y-Yes... Sorry...
Milla: This feeling... We're close!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 4: Scene 2

As Milla discusses her mission with Katalina, the airship is forced into an emergency landing on a small island. With the whirlpool in sight, Milla and the party head out to confront it together.

The Grandcypher's arrival at the small island was somewhere between a successful docking and a crash landing.
The air is markedly stagnant due to the miasma that envelops the island.
Vyrn: Oof... That hurt. And I don't like the looks of this place one bit.
Lyria: It's here, (Captain). I'm sure of it.
Lyria: I could feel it getting closer as we flew in... There's a primal beast here.
Milla: Hm. This must be its stronghold. It feels similar to the place where I encountered it last time.
Milla: Oh! There.
Milla's eyes alight upon a deep black whirlpool of darkness swirling upon the island's surface.
An ominous figure could be clearly seen at its center, like a bird at its nest.
???: ――――
Vyrn: This miasma is unbelievable!
Lyria: Everyone, be careful. That's the primal beast!
Katalina: I see... So when Milla was pulled here from a different world...
Katalina: It must have been this creature's doing.
Vyrn: All right! So let's just take it down, find the spirits, and then...
But the party's cheerful planning was silenced by a wave of Milla's hand.
Milla: Thank you. But this is where we part ways.
Katalina: What do you mean, "part ways"?!
Milla: This creature is dangerous. I don't doubt your skills...
Milla: But there's still a chance that one of you could end up like me, trapped in another world.
Milla: I can't allow that to happen. So I will handle this alone.
Katalina: Don't be a fool! You can't defeat that thing by yourself!
Milla: That may be true. But while the feeling is faint, I can sense that the Four are nearby.
Milla: They may well be trapped within that creature.
Katalina: All the more reason you'll need our help to save them!
Milla: But I can't allow you to get trapped in space-time!
  1. Whatever happens we'll face it together!
  2. Life goes on no matter how lost you get.

Choose: Whatever happens we'll face it together!
Milla: I see. Thank you. I suppose that's just the type of person you are.

Choose: Life goes on no matter how lost you get.
Milla: Huh... What a fascinating conception. I'd been thinking this for a while already, but you truly are a deep person.
Continue 1
Milla: Let us do this, then. Be brave, children of man!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 4: Scene 3

The source of the black whirlpool was a primal beast. In the ensuing battle, Katalina shields Milla from an attack and is knocked into the ravine.

???: ――――!
Katalina: Argh! Such power!
Vyrn: Darn it! I can't get close without getting sucked into that whirlpool!
Milla: Even without the power of the Four, I should not be struggling so! Clearly my training was inadequate...
Vyrn: Incoming!
Milla: What?
Katalina: Oh no! Milla, look out!
The primal beast's attack sends Katalina's body flying into the ravine below.
Katalina: Aaaaaaaah!
Milla: Katalina!
Vyrn: No!
Only Katalina's beloved sword, Rukalsa, remains at the edge of the cliff.
Milla runs to the cliff's edge and peers down, but can see no sign of Katalina.
Milla: Damn it!
Lyria: Katalina!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 5

Responding to the cry from Milla's heart, the Four Great Spirits appear. With the miasma banished, Milla and the party realize—to their great relief—that Milla's spirits have saved Katalina. Energized with the power of her spirits, Milla faces off against the whirlpool again.

Lyria: Katalina... No! This can't be happening...
Milla: Damn it. She was right beside me!
As Milla kneels despondently at the cliff's edge, a droplet of water lands on her thigh, and then another...
Milla: Are these... tears...?
The miasma around Milla dissipates, as if dispelled by the swirling grief in her heart.
Milla: Hmm...?
Vyrn: What just happened?
Milla: This feeling... Undine!
As Milla shouts the name, the Four Great Spirits emerge around her.
Undine rises from the ravine before Milla. In her arms rests Katalina, asleep in a watery womb.
Katalina: ...
Milla: Efreet! Gnome! Sylph! I am so glad that you're all here.
Katalina is laid at Milla's feet, and the Four fuse with Milla, coalescing into one.
The fight returns to Milla's eyes. And this time, she will be facing the primal beast with magnitudes more power than she'd possessed mere moments ago.
Milla: Behold, vile creature! The advantage is now mine!
Milla: Witness the full might of Maxwell!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - What Must Be Done - Episode 5: Scene 2

After fighting off the primal beast, a shining door appears before Milla and (Captain)'s party. Milla walks toward the portal to her world, but stops to say one final thing to Katalina: "Focus wholeheartedly on doing what you must." After hearing Katalina's reply, Milla bids the party a dispassionate farewell and returns to her own world.

Having reclaimed the power of the Four, Milla and (Captain)'s crew manage to drive away the primal beast.
The island's miasma and stagnant air clear to reveal a shining door.
Milla: This would appear to be the door back to my world.
Lyria: K-Katalina... are you okay?
Katalina: I am. I'm perfectly fine. The spirit magic completely healed my wounds.
Katalina: When I was unconscious, I could sense that my body was being enveloped in something.
Katalina: Was that one of your spirits, Milla?
Milla: Huh. Apparently you're all able to perceive them.
Milla: That was the water spirit, Undine. They say her heart is as pure as a pool of clear water.
Milla: It is a part of your nature. Pure water is drawn to you.
Katalina: It... It is...?
Milla: This is goodbye. For real, this time.
Katalina: You're going home? To continue your mission?
Milla: Yes. I will do what I must.
Katalina: What you must...
Milla: Come along, my Four.
Milla steps directly toward the shining door, showing no hint of hesitation.
But at its threshold, she suddenly stops.
Milla: Katalina.
Katalina: What is it? Shouldn't you hurry home?
Milla: You should focus wholeheartedly on doing what you must.
Milla: For it is that, not your knighthood or anything else, which defines you.
Katalina: Wh-What... How do you know anything about...
Katalina: No. You're right. I will... I will do that.
Milla: Then I wish you well.
With a dispassionate farewell, Milla steps through the door of light. She doesn't look back.
Katalina: Milla Maxwell... I wonder if she'll return here once she's done what she needed to do?
However, the ancient legends say that Vacheron doesn't distort space-time for the sake of mere mischief.
Could this meeting with the Great Spirits have been something Vacheron arranged...?

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 1

(Captain)'s party is hearing strange noises from their ship as they soar through the sky. Eugen performs maintenance in the engine room, but it turns out the source of the noises is a feline stowaway. In order to get the cat returned to its owner, the crew plots a course to Marco Island, where lost cats are cared for.

(Captain) and his party are soaring through a vast blue sky aboard the Grandcypher.
Eugen sighs deeply as he emerges from the engine room, tools in hand.
Eugen: Looks like that strange sound was just a maintenance issue.
Eugen: I gave everything a once-over. That ought to keep things running for a while.
Lyria: Thank you so much, Eugen!
Vyrn: Finally! Now maybe I can get a decent night's sleep.
Vyrn: That constant scratching and scraping was driving me nuts!
Eugen: Scratching and scraping...? What are you talking about?
Vyrn: Huh? That's not the strange sound you meant? Wasn't that coming from the engine room?
Vyrn: There, don't you hear that? It sounds like something scraping against metal...
Lyria: Hmm... It sounds a little like a cat scratching against a door?
Cat: Meow!
Lyria: What?! That's... an actual cat!
Eugen: Huh! Looks like we picked up a stray somewhere.
Vyrn: That's no stray. It's got a collar.
Eugen: So this is someone's pet? Aw, geez. That's a problem.
Lyria: Oh no... Someone out there has probably been looking everywhere for this little guy!
Cat: Meow?
Lyria: We have to get it back to its owner!
Vyrn: Y-Yeah, but... I've been hearing that scratching for days.
Vyrn: We were stopping all over the place back then! It could be from anywhere!
Lyria: Oh, you poor thing... You're really far from home.
Eugen: You know, cats do tend to come and go as they please.
Eugen: Which is why there's an island in Phantagrande just for cats like this one.
Lyria: An island for cats?
Eugen: Yeah, apparently the locals there take care of strays and lost cats.
Eugen: If someone's looking for it, that's probably one of the places they'll check.
Lyria: An island of cats! Wow! I'd love to see that.
Vyrn: Yikes. Did anyone else just see that crazy sparkle in Lyria's eyes?
Eugen: Heh. Well, as long as we're on R&R, there's no harm in taking a little detour, right, (Captain)?
Eugen: After all, it's not like we can keep this guy here on the ship!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 1: Scene 2

After landing on the cat sanctuary of Marco Island, the party visits the Knicknack Shack, where they encounter a young man named Yuri who's looking for his cat, Rollo. Sierokarte convinces the party to help, and they head to a cat gathering spot. There, a group of thugs mistakes them for the criminals behind a rash of cat disappearances.

(Captain) and crew have landed on Marco Island, a shelter for cats. Seeking directions, the party heads to the Knickknack Shack.
There, they find Sierokarte already engaged with another customer.
???: His name's Rollo, and he's about yay big...
Sierokarte: I see, I see. And somehow you've managed to lose this Rollo?
???: Right. And I hear you're pretty well-connected around these parts, so...
???: Maybe you've heard some talk about someone finding a cat that size?
Sierokarte: No, but if this Rollo needs to be found, I'm willing to... "roll up my sleeves" and get to work! Tee hee!
Sierokarte: Let me look into it a bit, and I'll let you know when I'm... "ready to roll!" Hehehehe.
???: ...
Lyria: Pffft... Ha!
Vyrn: You actually found that funny, Lyria?
Eugen: When it comes to comedy, there's no accounting for taste.
Sierokarte: Huh? Heh? Wha?! What the heck are you guys doing here?
Lyria: S-Sorry! We didn't mean to interrupt.
Cat: Meow!
???: Huh? That cat you're holding...
???: Nah. It looks a little like Rollo, but it doesn't seem as... what's the word... squishy.
Vyrn: You're looking for a cat, I take it?
???: Huh? What the... You can speak?
Vyrn: What do you think I—H-hey! Let go of meeee!
???: Huh. Oh, well. I've seen stranger things.
Vyrn: All right, whatever... Listen, is this your cat, pal?
???: I wish it was, but... The one I'm looking for is much fatter.
Sierokarte: Oh, I've got it! How's this for a plan, Yuri?
Sierokarte: How about you team up with (Captain) and co. to search for your cat?
???: You mean... these guys here?
Sierokarte: Absolutely! (Captain)'s crew is one of the best in the skydom.
Sierokarte: Whether it's finding cats or slaying monsters—if you need something done, they'll take care of it. Isn't that right, guys?
Eugen: Hmph. That was more of a setup than an introduction.
Vyrn: Yeah, I don't know how we're supposed to get out of this now!
???: Sounds good to me. You sure, though? I can't pay much.
  1. Of course!
  2. I'm not sure...

Choose: Of course!
???: Then I'd be a fool not to take you up on that. Thanks.

Choose: I'm not sure...
???: Don't sweat it on my account. I'm sure you got your own problems to solve.
Eugen: That we do, but we're not solving those without help either.
Eugen: Thing is, (Captain), we can't afford to get on Siero's bad side.
Eugen: If we don't come through for her, she's not gonna come through for us either. Understand?
(Captain) nods to Eugen.
???: You sure? Then you got yourself a deal.
Continue 1
Yuri: Name's Yuri Lowell. I'm a knight for the Kingdom of Windor. Nice to meet you.
The party leaves the Knickknack Shack, entrusting the lost cat to Sierokarte.
Together with Yuri, they set out to visit the various feline gathering spots that dot the island, but...
Thug: Hey! I dunno what you're after, but round these parts, we don't cotton to skeezy strangers pokin' around our sweet kitties.
Yuri: Uh, we're actually just looking for a cat. Big, and kinda on the fat side...
Thug: Why, you... You think fat-shaming kitties is funny?! Someone oughta teach you some manners!
Yuri: Okay, calm down! What is the deal with this island?
Thug: Lately a lot of kitties have gone missin'. And I bet you're the ones who took 'em!
Yuri: And now they're throwing wild accusations... What should we do?
Vyrn: This guy's answering for us—he's reaching for his sword!
Yuri: Guess it doesn't matter where you go— some folk just can't control their temper.
Yuri: Well, it keeps things simple, and I can't argue with that. Let's show 'em what we've got, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 2

(Captain)'s party cleared up the confusion with the thugs, but not before nightfall. The group agreed to continue in the morning, and Eugen invited Yuri to stay the night on the Grandcypher. In a wine-fueled party on the ship's deck, Yuri spoke a little about conditions in the country he serves. The next day, the party resumes their search for Rollo.

After explaining the situation, (Captain)'s party was able to clear up the misunderstanding with the thugs.
But night had fallen, and the party was still no closer to finding Rollo.
Vyrn: I can't imagine we're gonna have much luck finding Rollo in total darkness.
Lyria: That's true. At this point, I'm not even sure I'd notice if he was standing at my feet.
Yuri: Let's call it a night, then. Thanks for your help.
Eugen: Ah, it was nothing. I just wish we'd had more luck.
Eugen: Are you from around here? We could give you a ride on the airship.
Yuri: Huh? Oh... Thanks, but I think I'm pretty far from home.
Eugen: So you got a room somewhere?
Yuri: Nah, I'm not too familiar with the area, and I haven't really seen any inns around.
Yuri: I'll just camp out around here somewhere.
Eugen: The hell you will! Why didn't you say something sooner?
Yuri: Huh...?
Eugen: Ha ha ha! Come on, drink up! You're falling way behind!
Yuri: Yeesh... Guess it doesn't matter where you go—middle-aged men love to drink.
Yuri: Come on, you oughta eat something. All that alcohol's gonna wreck your stomach.
Lyria: You really should! Yuri's cooking is fantastic!
Vyrn: You sure don't look it, but wow, you're a really good cook!
Yuri: I'm nothing special. Just had a lot of practice, is all.
Yuri: When it's a choice between cooking and going hungry, anyone will learn how to rustle up a meal.
With Yuri's cooking to soak up the drinks, the meal continued well into the night.
Lyria: Mmmm...
Vyrn: Snooore...
Yuri: Sigh... Who exactly is the guest here?
Eugen: Hey, kid... You said you were a knight of... where was that, again?
Yuri: Windor. The Kingdom of Windor. Why?
Eugen: It's nothing, I just... I got a daughter, about your age... Well, maybe a little older...
Eugen: She's one too. A knight, I mean… Officially, at least. But she's running a country.
Yuri: She's close to my age and ruling a country? That's quite a feat.
Eugen: Yeah! She's a real impressive lady. Hard to believe she's related to me, ya know?
Eugen: Anyway, just got me wondering... What are knights like in other places?
Yuri: I can't say it's ever been a point of pride for me.
Yuri: Now, ruling a country, on the other hand... I wonder what I'd do if I had power like that?
Eugen: Why the long face? You worried about something?
Eugen: We're all drunk here, kid! Spit it out!
Yuri: I wouldn't say I was worried about it, exactly...
Yuri: But at the moment, my country's in a bit of trouble.
Yuri: I was just fantasizing about having the power to change things.
Eugen: So if you did, what would you do?
Yuri: That's a good question. I... have no idea.
Eugen: Ha ha ha ha! Well, no shame in that.
Eugen: What-ifs are good for drunken conversation, but that's about it.
Eugen: All we can do is the best we can with what we got, am I right?
Yuri: You're probably right. I ought to stick to focusing on what's within my grasp.
Eugen: Man, things got a little dark there. Come on kid, drink up!
Yuri: Hey, ease up on the bottle! I can't drink all that!
And so, the party continued.
In the morning, everyone disembarked to a sunny day on Marco Island, and resumed their search for Rollo.

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 2: Scene 2

(Captain)'s party visits a pet shop where cats from the island are sold. There, Yuri courts trouble with some imperial soldiers, and deftly defeats them. But the shopkeeper is just as frightened of Yuri after he identifies himself as a royal knight. Reinforcements arrive to avenge the defeated guards.

Cat: Meow.
Imperial Soldier 1: Look at those round eyes and big soft feet. So adorable!
Imperial Soldier 2: Little cutie's rolling over in its sleep! Oh, look—now it's rolling back! Awwwww!
Yuri: Huh. Is everyone on this island like this? And no one else finds that strange?
Vyrn: Yeah... I can't help you there.
On a tip from Sierokarte, (Captain)'s party is visiting a local pet shop.
The shop sells cats picked up on the island, but...
Cat: Meow?
Imperial Soldier 1: Oh, that fuzzy little belly... That proud, upturned nose...
Imperial Soldier 2: Look, look! It's sitting up! Oh my gosh, it's crossing its legs!
...but the pet shop was full of imperial soldiers who had become entranced by the cats.
Yuri: So we can't get close to the cats because these guys are in the way?
Eugen: This is pretty much the last place I figured we'd run into the imperial army.
Lyria: I guess we'll just have to stay out of sight until they move on?
Yuri: What are you guys talking about? Why don't we just ask them to step aside for a minute?
Vyrn: Yeah... about that.
The party explains to Yuri that they're on the run from the Erste Empire.
Yuri: Huh... Well, after all you've done for me, I sure don't want to cause any trouble for you.
Shop Assistant: Um, excuse me...?
Imperial Soldier 1: Huh? You want something from us?
Shop Assistant: I'm so sorry, but... for the sake of our other customers, we'd rather not have armed soldiers hanging out in the front of the store...
Imperial Soldier 2: Huh? You got some sort of problem with the soldiers of the Erste Empire?
Shop Assistant: N-No! It's just that... you're scaring the other customers.
Shop Assistant: Also, it upsets the cats when you tap on the cages like that...
Imperial Soldier 1: Huh. Sounds to me like you got a whole lot of problems with us.
Imperial Soldier 1: And if you think this is bad, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Yuri: Just look at you big tough soldiers, ogling cats and threatening store clerks.
Vyrn: Y-Yuri?! What are you—
Imperial Soldier 1: Who the hell are you? Go ahead and say that to my face!
Yuri: You hard of hearing? I said you're big tough men, hassling folk as you hide behind your uniform.
Imperial Soldier 2: You son of a—
Lyria: Yuri!
Yuri: ...
The two imperial soldiers draw their swords and attack Yuri.
But Yuri deftly parries their attacks, sending both men sprawling to the ground.
Yuri: About what I expected.
Imperial Soldier 1: Argghh... Who are you?!
Yuri: Oh, no one all that special. Just a lowly knight.
Shop Assistant: What?! You're a royal knight...?
Shop Assistant: So you're part of some army, too? Just like these guys...
Yuri: Huh? I wouldn't say that. Well, it's true that knights are a part of the military...
Imperial Soldier 2: Ha! Acting like some sorta hero when you're just a soldier too! What's the diff—bwah?!
Eugen: Yeah, and my boot's just a shoe till it's kickin' your butt. Hey kid, don't pay these two no mind.
Yuri: ...
Imperial Soldier 3: Hey, are you two okay?! Oh, these bastards are gonna pay!
Vyrn: Uh-oh! Looks like they had friends nearby... Brace yourself, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 3

Yuri asks the pet shop owner about his lost cat, Rollo. The owner had picked up a cat matching his description, but had already sold him to the cat-loving lord of the island. To secure Rollo's return, the party hurries to the lord's manor.

Together with Yuri, (Captain)'s party was able to fight off the imperial troops and clear up the shopkeeper's misunderstanding.
For a moment, Yuri seemed lost in thought, but was soon his old self again, asking after his missing cat.
Yuri: His name's Rollo. His eyes are blue and he's a bit plump.
Shopkeep: Blue eyes... Plump...
Shopkeep: Yeah, I picked up a cat like that a few days ago!
Yuri: You did? Where is he now?
Shopkeep: Ah... That was the day the local lord came by the shop...
Eugen: Oh no. I don't like where this is going.
Shopkeep: He fell in love with that cat at first sight.
Vyrn: So what you're saying is... Rollo's not here anymore?
Shopkeep: I'm afraid not.
Yuri: Sigh... We just missed him?
Shopkeep: I told him that the cat looked like he'd been a pet, and that his owner might come by to claim him, but...
Lyria: Cheer up, everyone! At least now we know where Rollo is, right?
Yuri: I guess you've got a point there.
Yuri: Would you mind pointing us in the direction of the lord's manor?
Shopkeep: Oh, of course! I'll escort you there myself.
Yuri: I've already come this far... I don't want to make Elle cry by coming back without Rollo.

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 3: Scene 2

Yuri reunites with Rollo at the lord's manor. However, the lord has taken a liking to the cat, and refuses to give him up. Eugen asks the lord to let Rollo go in exchange for the party's services as skyfarers. He agrees, tasking the party with solving the mysterious cat disappearances.

Cat: Meow!
Lord: Well? Have you ever seen such lustrous fur? I brush his coat every day.
Lord: And this beauty here! I could stare into her mismatched eyes all day. Now, I'll direct your attention to the unusual mottling on this next one's nose.
Yuri: Sigh... This is probably what I should've expected from the lord of this island.
Vyrn: How long do you think he's gonna go on about his cats?
Yuri: I dunno. But I know once his type gets started, there's no stopping them. We just gotta grin and bear it.
Having been led to his manor by the pet shop owner, the party is visiting the lord who apparently took Rollo.
But they were quickly subjected to a boastful and seemingly endless introduction to all the lord's cats.
Cat: Meow!
Lord: Now, look at the paw pads on this one's feet. Have you ever seen such a vivid pink hue? That's a result of his special diet, which...
Eugen: Yawn.
Eugen: Hey, Yuri? I'm gonna catch a quick nap here. You mind waking me when we get to the point?
Yuri: Come on now. I sympathize, but antagonizing him isn't gonna make things—
Rollo: Meow!
Yuri: Rollo! I've been looking everyone for you!
Yuri: Huh? This guy's got you tied up?
Lord: Rollo? Is that this cat's former name?
Yuri: Yeah. We got separated a while back. I'm glad I finally found him! Come on, Rollo.
Rollo: Meow!
Lord: Hold it right there! Are you trying to abscond with one of my cats?!
Yuri: Huh? Your cat?
Lord: In the eyes of the law, he's mine now. I can't just let you take him.
Lyria: But... Yuri's been searching for him for so long!
Vyrn: That's right! Rollo's his cat! Did you miss that part?
Lord: This cat may have been his, but now it's mine. How I treasure its magnificent girth!
Yuri: Sigh... I had a feeling this wasn't gonna be so easy.
Eugen: Look, your lordship... I'm sure we can settle this like civilized men.
Eugen: We understand what you're saying, and we're willing to work something out.
Eugen: Fortunately, we're one of the best skyfarer crews in the business. Maybe you could use our help with something?
Lord: Hmmm... Interesting.
Reluctantly, the lord agrees to relinquish Rollo on one condition...
That the party discover the source of the recent cat disappearances and put a stop to it.
Yuri: So this is where most of the cat disappearances seem to have occurred.
Lyria: Yikes. That gives me the shivers...
Yuri: Thanks for working out this deal, Eugen.
Eugen: Har! Figured I'd better take charge, you being a bit of a hothead and all. Not that I'm much better...
Eugen: Still, these wrinkles came with at least a little wisdom. I know how to handle these situations now.
Yuri: Well, I sure owe you one.
Vyrn: And now we'll finally be able to get Rollo back!
Eugen: Well... I wouldn't get too confident about that yet. I got kind of a bad feeling about this place...
Yuri: Yeah, it feels like anything could happen in a place like this. We'd better be on guard, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 4

As (Captain)'s party investigates the disappearing cats, Yuri again experiences the strange feeling he had on the day he was sucked into this world, and Lyria senses the presence of a primal beast. Suddenly, the strange black whirlpool appears, and begins to transform. Yuri warns the others away, but they refuse to retreat. Instead, they team up to battle the primal beast behind the black whirlpools.

(Captain)'s party proceeds into a thick miasma while investigating a series of cat disappearances.
With each passing step, Yuri grows more convinced of the answer.
Yuri: This feeling... It's just like before...
Yuri: Guess that explains the disappearances...
Lyria: Oh! I'm sensing a primal beast here! But... where is it?!
Eugen: Look! Over there!
Eugen points to a swirling black eddy that seems poised to consume everything around it.
???: ...
Yuri: You guys get out of here. I'm the one that's got business with that thing.
Eugen: What? What are you talking about?
Yuri: Don't worry about it. Think of it as me paying back a debt.
Yuri: Just make sure you don't get anywhere near that whirlpool. It's the source of the missing cats, and the thing I've been looking for.
As (Captain)'s party looks on, the black whirlpool slowly changes form into a primal beast.
???: ...
The primal beast makes another eddy appear, which begins sucking in everything around it.
Vyrn: What the— What is going on here?!
Eugen: Does everything that falls into that eddy just... disappear?
Yuri: No. I think everything it sucks in gets sent somewhere else.
Yuri: Whether it'll end up on this world or the other one, I couldn't tell you.
Yuri: You get what I'm saying? You get near that thing, and who knows what might happen.
Yuri: That's why you all—
Eugen: Will be there to back you up!
Vyrn: Yeah! If we turned tail and ran, what kind of skyfarers would we be?
Lyria: Well said, Vyrn. Don't you agree, (Captain)?
  1. Of course it is.
  2. If anything, Yuri should get back!

Choose: Of course it is.
Yuri: Come on guys, were you even listening? This isn't about being tough!
Yuri: If you try to fight that thing, you could end up being transported to who knows where!
Eugen: And yet, you seem pretty determined to fight it.
Yuri: Well yeah, but...
Eugen: We're staying, kid. That's just the kind of crew we are.

Choose: If anything, Yuri should get back!
Yuri: What? Did you not hear what I just said?
Yuri: That thing's the key to getting back to where I'm from! And it's probably behind the missing cats, too.
Yuri: And besides, I'm never getting Rollo back if I back away now.
Yuri: But this has nothing to do with any of you! And you'd be wise to keep it that way!
Eugen: Nothing to do with us? Have you already forgotten, kid?!
Yuri: Forgotten what...?
Eugen: It was our crew that got hired to find those missing cats. We don't leave a job undone!
Eugen: And besides, we've been through too much together for you to be treating us like strangers.
Continue 1
Yuri: All right... If that's the way you feel, I'm not gonna argue.
Yuri: But in that case... Don't slow me down, you hear?
Eugen: Ha! That'll be the day! Let's show him what we got, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - When the Cat's Away... - Episode 4: Scene 2

After the primal beast responsible for the disappearing cats is defeated, the black whirlpool transforms into a shining door to another world. The party reports their success to the island's lord, who returns Rollo to Yuri. Reluctantly, Yuri leaves to confront the challenges that await him in his own world.

After a hard-fought battle, (Captain)'s party emerges triumphant.
At Lyria's command, the dark whirlpool transforms into a shining door.
Lyria: This door... Where could it lead?
Yuri: Probably to a whole new world. Well, new to you, anyway. I know it well, myself.
(Captain)'s party returns to the lord's manor to report the successful completion of his request.
Rollo: Meow!
Lord: The culprit behind the disappearing cats was a primal beast?! Unbelievable!
Lord: And you actually managed to defeat this creature? Utterly inconceivable!
Yuri: Yeah, well, the job's done. Can I get Rollo back now?
Lord: Absolutely! Although of course, I'll miss him terribly.
Rollo: Meow.
Yuri: Phew... Well that finally settles that.
Lyria: Rollo sure must mean a lot to you, Yuri.
Yuri: Huh? Well... yeah.
Rollo: Meow!
Yuri: He's a pretty clever cat, in his own way.
Yuri: Like, if you let him out for a walk, he'll usually return with something useful.
Eugen: That's great! He must have quite a keen sense of smell.
Eugen: What do you think, (Captain)? Should we give it a try? Send Vyrn out for a walk and see what he turns up?
Vyrn: Hey! As if I'm not way smarter than some cat!
Rollo: Meow...?
Yuri: I dunno, lizard. That look in Rollo's eyes says he thinks otherwise.
Vyrn: I am NOT a lizard!
Rollo: Meow.
After enjoying the lord's hospitality for a while longer, Yuri picks up Rollo and rises to his feet.
Yuri: Well, I'd better get going.
Eugen: Oh? You're off already?
Yuri: I wish I could stay a little longer with you all, but...
Yuri: I don't want to keep that kid waiting any longer. She's probably already worried sick.
Lyria: I hope we see you again soon! There's so much more I want to talk to you about.
Yuri: You got it. I'd love to hear more about this whole skyfarer business.
Yuri: And of course, I'll be eager to hear what Vyrn found on his walk.
Vyrn: Hmph! I don't need to prove myself by beating some cat!
Yuri: Take it easy, pal. I'm just kidding around.
Yuri: Thanks for all your help, (Captain). I definitely owe you one.
Yuri: Forgive me for skipping out without repaying you first...
Yuri: But I've got a lot of duties that I can't afford to neglect any longer.
Yuri opens the door and steps outside.
Eugen: Hey, Yuri!
Yuri: Huh? What is it, Eugen?
Eugen: Keep that chin up, kid. You got this.
Yuri: Heh. You know it.
Rollo: Meow!
After that, Yuri somehow disappeared from the island completely, without ever boarding an airship.
But (Captain)'s party knew in their hearts that he'd found his way back to where he belonged.

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 1

Having heard a rumor about a mysterious flower, (Captain)'s party lands on a small, nameless island to search for it. They find the secret garden in which it's said to grow, but don't see the rumored flower. Frustrated, Io suddenly runs off into the garden.

One day, (Captain)'s party heard a rumor about a mysterious flower.
The flower is unique in that it only blooms in the parts of the skydom where the purest of winds blow.
In hopes of seeing this flower, the party has disembarked on a small, uncharted island.
Lyria: I can't wait to see what this flower looks like!
Vyrn: The rumors say that the petals actually glow!
Lyria: That's amazing! Are you as excited to see it as I am, Io?
Io: What? Oh, y-yeah. Well, if this flower's that rare, then I guess I wouldn't mind taking a look at it.
Vyrn: Hey, guys! Come take a look at this!
Lyria: Okay! We're on our way!
Io: Sheesh, look at her run like that! It's like she's still a little kid.
Io: H-hey, (Captain), slow down! Haven't you ever heard of "ladies first"?
After pushing their way through a dense thicket, the party stumbles into a secluded garden.
Io: Whoa.
Lyria: This is so beautiful!
Io: Yeah! This is a lot more impressive than I was expecting!
Io: So where's this super-rare flower?
Vyrn: Beats me!
The party searches for a flower with glowing petals, as the rumors had suggested.
Lyria: Hmm. I don't see any flowers like that anywhere.
Vyrn: Ah, what a waste. I guess that's what we get for trusting gossip.
Io: Hold on now! You dragged me all the way out here and now you're just giving up?
Dissatisfied, Io abruptly runs off through the garden.
Vyrn: H-Hey, Io! Hold up!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 1: Scene 2

After running deeper into the garden, Io suddenly disappears from view. The party rushes over to find that she's tripped over a strange girl sleeping in the flowers. When they ask the girl's name, she says she can't remember. But when monsters abruptly appear, the girl rises to fight them alone.

Io: Huh?!
Having broken into a run, Io abruptly disappears from the party's view.
Io: Owww! What the heck! That hurt!
???: Mmm...
(Captain)'s crew gathers around the spot where Io tripped.
At Io's feet, sprawled atop a carpet of blooming flowers, lies a young girl.
Io: A... A girl?! What's she doing out here?!
Lyria: Taking a midday nap, I guess?
Vyrn: A nap? Out here?!
Io: Hey, kid. You'd better get inside somewhere before you catch a cold!
Io lightly touches the girl's shoulder.
???: Mm? Mmm...
Io: It looks like she's awake! Hey, are you okay?
The girl's eyes slowly focus on Io.
???: Who... are you...?
Io: Me? I'm Io.
???: Io...
Io: Yep. And these are my friends.
Lyria: It's nice to meet you. My name is Lyria.
Vyrn: I'm Vyrn! And that's our crew's captain, (Captain).
???: Lyria...? Vyrn...? Crew...? Cap... tain...?
Io: I... guess that's a lot to process when you've just woken up.
Io: So what's your name?
???: My name...?
Io: Right. Your name. What is it?
???: Name... My name...
Io: Don't tell me you can't remember your own name?
???: Oh!
Having sensed something, the girl abruptly springs to her feet.
Io: Wh-What's wrong?
???: ...Monsters.
Monster: Rrraaawrrr!
???: I will destroy them.
The girl runs straight at the monsters that have emerged from the thicket.
Io: H-Hey! Wait! Those things are dangerous!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 1: Scene 3

With the girl's help, the party is able to wipe out the monsters. Io has lots of questions for her, but she can't even remember her own name. Finally, a flowery gust of wind reminds the girl of her flower-derived name, Sophie. Since Sophie has nowhere else to go, the party agrees to look after her.

Thanks to the girl, the party is able to quickly dispatch the monsters.
Io: Whoa, you're a powerhouse! I didn't see that coming.
???: A power... house?
Lyria: You sure are! I couldn't believe how quickly you defeated those monsters!
Vyrn: Yeah! You didn't seem scared of those things at all.
Vyrn: I don't think I've ever seen anyone move like you do.
???: You haven't...?
Io: So who the heck are you?
???: I don't know.
Io: So... is there anything that you do remember?
???: No...
Io could only shrug at the girl's terse replies.
Io: What a day! We came looking for a flower and found an amnesiac instead.
Just then, a gentle breeze blew through the garden.
The sweet fragrance of flowers blew up from their feet.
???: That smell... Flowers.
Io: Yeah. They sure smell nice.
???: It's... a flower's name...
Io: Huh? What is?
Sophie: My name... It's Sophie. I was named after the Sopheria flower.
As if to confirm that she really exists, Sophie whispers her name again softly.
Io: Sophie, huh? All right! We have a name.
Sophie: Yes. Thank you for helping me remember, Io.
Io: You don't need to thank me. I didn't do anything!
Io: So what now, Sophie?
Sophie: There... There's someone I have to meet...
Lyria: Ah, so you aren't here alone?
Sophie: I don't know. But I have to meet him!
Io: Okay, calm down. This person you have to meet... Do you have a name? A description?
Sophie: No. I don't remember anything.
Io: Yeah... I had a feeling.
Sophie: I'm sorry.
Io: You don't need to apologize to me either, Sophie. You know what? I think we met for a reason.
Io: How about I let you stick around with us till you remember where you're supposed to be?
Sophie: Really?
Lyria: If you'll let us, I'm sure we can help you.
Sophie: Thank you! I accept.
Vyrn: We're happy to have you, Sophie!
Vyrn: Now, what do you say we get you back to our ship!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 2

Later, (Captain)'s party lands at a nearby town to search for clues to Sophie's identity. (Captain) and Vyrn investigate a missing-persons board while Sophie, Io, and Lyria go from shop-to-shop gathering intel. After buying matching pendants at a kiosk, Sophie's group goes to relax at a cafe. There, a man claiming to be a detective says he has a client seeking a girl that matches Sophie's description. Just then, (Captain) and Vyrn show up, and recognize the so-called detective as a wanted kidnapper. The kidnapper tries to take Sophie as a hostage, and the party readies to teach him a lesson.

A few days later, (Captain)'s party lands at a nearby town in search of clues to Sophie's identity.
Lyria: Wow. This town sure is lively!
Io: With this many people out and about, someone's got to know something about Sophie.
Sophie: I sure hope so.
Vyrn: All right! Let's start looking!
Vyrn: So... What exactly are we looking for?
Io: I guess we're just trying to find out if anyone here knows Sophie!
The party parades Sophie through the town's main street.
But they fail to encounter anyone who recognizes her.
Io: Well, that went nowhere.
Lyria: Where should we go now? This town is a lot bigger than I'd imagined.
Vyrn: There are lots of places we haven't been, but we don't have time to hit them all.
Sophie: I'm okay. I'll walk for as long as you want me to.
Io: Wait! I just had a great idea!
At Io's suggestion, the party splits into two groups.
(Captain) and Vyrn are checking a board where descriptions of missing persons are posted.
Vyrn: Well? Do any of these sound like Sophie?
(Captain) shakes his head.
Vyrn: Nothing here either.
But just then, (Captain)'s eyes widen, and he calls Vyrn over.
Vyrn: Huh? What is it?
Vyrn and (Captain) read the posted flyer together.
Vyrn: A kidnapper? I don't like the sound of that...
Meanwhile, Sophie, Io, and Lyria are continuing to interview people on the street.
Io: Hey, you! Have you seen this girl before?
Sophie: Hello.
Stall holder: Have I seen her? I don't think so.
Lyria: All right. Thanks anyway.
Stall holder: Hey, why don't you take a look at my wares? I'll give you a discount!
Lyria: Oh? Really?
Io: Lyria, we don't have time for this! Can you believe her, Sophie?
Sophie: Look... This one's so pretty.
Io: Okay, fine! But we'll only look for a few minutes!
Sophie: Yes. Just a few minutes.
The three girls begin trying on accessories.
Io: Hey, mister. Could you lower the price for us? Pretty please!
Stall holder: It doesn't matter how many times you ask, Miss Io—I can't go any cheaper on those!
Io: Aw, come on, please? What if we all buy one? Give us the bulk discount!
Stall holder: All right… fine! Your sweet smile has inspired me to cut a little deeper. But just for you ladies!
Io: Yay!
Lyria: You drive a hard bargain, Io!
Io: Heh heh. I do this sort of thing all the time.
The girls resume walking, their new pendants in hand.
Lyria: This is so cute! We all have matching pendants!
Sophie: I can't get mine on...
Embarrassed, Sophie fumbles with the latch on her pendant.
Io: Here, let me do that.
Io circles behind Sophie and gently fastens the clasp on her pendant.
Sophie: Thank you, Io.
Io: That looks so great on you, Sophie! Now, I'm sure I don't need to say it, but... this is our little secret, right?
Sophie: Right. Our little secret.
Io: Now let's get back to work!
After asking around at all the major businesses, the three girls take a break at a cafe.
Io: Well, we gave it our best shot, but no dice.
Sophie: ...
Lyria: Oh, but don't get discouraged, Sophie! Maybe Vyrn and (Captain) found something!
Sophie: Oh. I guess that's possible.
Io: Don't look so glum! Here, let's order something sweet to cheer you up!
Sophie: Oh... I'd like that!
Lyria: Everything here looks so good. What do you think, Sophie?
Sophie: Ummm... I think... Uh....
Io: If you can't decide, we could all get something different and share it!
Sophie: Yes! Let's do that!
After happily devouring sweets for a few minutes, the three girls look up to find a man staring at them.
???: Ah, finally! There she is!
Lyria: Um, excuse me? Who are you?
Detective: Sorry, I should have introduced myself. I'm a detective here in town.
Detective: I'd heard you girls were looking for someone.
Io: What does that have to do with you?
Detective: The thing is, I've got a client who's been searching for someone who matches the description of your purple-haired friend.
Sophie: M-Me...?
Detective: That's right. Would you be willing to come with me back to my office?
Sophie: Sure!
Io: Sophie, wait!
Io: Can you tell us a little bit more about your client first?
Detective: Sorry, but I have to protect my client's confidentiality. I can't say more in public.
Sophie: Io. I want to meet him.
Lyria: What should we do? We still have a little time before we're supposed to meet up with Vyrn and (Captain)...
Io: All right. I guess it wouldn't hurt to hear what he has to say.
The detective leads Io, Lyria, and Sophie out of the cafe and down the street—where they promptly run into Vyrn and (Captain).
Vyrn: Hey, what are you guys doing here? We couldn't find anything about Sophie on the boards...
Detective: Who are you?
Vyrn: H-Hey... Do I know you from somewhere?
(Captain) reminds Vyrn about the flyer they'd read a little while ago.
Vyrn: Oh? Oh! That's the kidnapper!
Detective: Eh?!
Lyria: K-Kidnapper?! What are you talking about?
Vyrn: There was a flyer about this guy on the missing persons board!
Detective: Damn it! Nobody move!
Sophie: Huh?!
The man grabs Sophie as a hostage, and drags her into a back alley.
Io: Sophie!
Sophie: I'm okay. Hwah!
In an instant, Sophie strikes the man and deftly slips out his grasp.
Detective: Argh! Slippery little... All right, fine! I'll just kill the lot of you!
Sophie: Don't worry! I'll protect you!
Sophie leaps gracefully into the air, and dives at the kidnapper.
Io: Sophie, stop! You can't fight him alone! (Captain)—help her!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 3

As the party heads to the center of town, they come across a puppet show about a man named Richard. Sophie reacts strongly to the name, and slips free of the party to run off. In the woods outside of town, Io catches up to Sophie just as she's about to be attacked by a monster. Io leaps in the way to protect her, and gets hurt. Finally, (Captain)'s party arrives and prepares to battle the monster.

(Captain)'s party captured the kidnapper who was posing as a detective, and handed him over to the town's militia.
They're now making their way back to the center of town.
Io: Listen, Sophie, you gotta promise not to put yourself at risk like that again!
Sophie: Why?
Io: What do you mean, why? Because it would kill me to see you get hurt!
Sophie: If I got hurt, it would kill you?
Io: Of course it would!
Io: We're friends, right? That's how friendship works!
Sophie: Friends... You and I are friends?
Io: Y-Yes we're friends! Did I really need to explain that to you?
Sophie: Friends... Io and I are friends.
Just then, puppeteers start calling out to passersby that their show is about to begin.
Lyria: Oh, look! There's going to be a puppet show!
Vyrn: Whoa, what perfect timing! What do you say we check it out?
Io: Perfect timing...? A puppet show is the last thing we have time for!
Young Puppeteer: A long time ago, in a kingdom far way, there was a prince by the name of Richard.
Sophie: Richard...?
Sophie's eyes widen as the puppeteer says the name "Richard."
Io: Even you, Sophie? Fine! We'll stay and watch.
Reluctantly, Io stops walking and turns to watch the show.
Young Puppeteer: In his youth, Prince Richard was embroiled in battles over his right to succession...
Young Puppeteer: And he ultimately lost the ability to trust those around him.
Young Puppeteer: But one day, even Prince Richard learned to trust again.
Young Puppeteer: The prince met some truehearted companions while visiting a neighboring country...
Young Puppeteer: And beneath a certain tree, the young companions exchanged vows of friendship.
Sophie: Richard... Vows of friendship...
Young Puppeteer: This is a tale of the adventures Richard shared with those friends, many hundreds of years ago.
Sophie: Hundreds of years ago...?
Sophie, who'd been watching the play quietly, suddenly stepped up to the stage.
Sophie: Do you know where Richard is now?
Young Puppeteer: Uh, R-Richard...? I'm sure he's long dead!
Sophie: That's not true! Richard is still alive!
Young Puppeteer: Excuse me, miss? Could you step back and watch quietly, please?
Lyria: I am so sorry!
Io: Sophie! What is wrong with you?!
Sophie: I have to find out for sure!
Io: Sophie! Calm down!
Sophie breaks free of Io's grasp and runs off.
Io: St-Stop! What are you doing?!
Panicked, Io chases after her.
Lyria: (Captain), come on! We should go after them too!
Vyrn: Geez... It's like Sophie just snapped... What the heck happened?
Sophie: Huff...
When she regained her composure, Sophie found herself lost in the deep woods outside of the town.
Sophie: Richard... He's the one I have to meet!
Io finally emerged, several steps behind.
Io: Huff... I finally... Huff... Caught you...
Sophie: Io...
Io: What... happened...?
Sophie: It's Richard. He can't be dead! I know it!
Io: Okay... If you say so, I believe you.
Sophie: I have to meet Richard!
Io: Fine! Then let's go find this Richard of yours!
Sophie: ...
Io: What's with all the gloom? We have a lead! That's good, right?
Sophie: Thank you. You're right. I just... don't know how to get to Richard...
Just then, a monster emerges from the woods, and launches itself at Sophie's back.
Monster: ...
Io: Look out!
Io moves in to protect Sophie from the monster's strike.
Io: Oof!
Sophie: Io?!
Io: I'm okay... It's just a scratch!
At that moment, (Captain) and the others burst onto the scene.
Vyrn: There you are! We heard a monster roar!
Sophie: Io's hurt! She was protecting me!
Lyria: Io, are you okay?!
Io: I'll be fine! Just take out that dang monster already, (Captain)!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 4

A few days later, the party returns to the uncharted island at Sophie's insistence. As they trek to the garden where they first met Sophie, they're assailed by sudden tremors.

A few days later, the party sets out once again for the uncharted island at Sophie's insistent request.
Sophie: Io... Does your wound still hurt?
Io: Huh? I told you not to worry about that! That tiny scratch cleared up forever ago!
Sophie: I'm glad to hear that.
Finally, the party descends onto the uncharted island, and begins traveling to the garden where they first met Sophie.
Io: Meeting you here was how this all began...
Sophie: Yes. And I believe that if I go back there now, I'll remember something important.
Lyria: It would certainly be nice if we could find a solid lead.
Io: Well, if Sophie doesn't remember anything...
Io: Then she can just stay with us forever, right?
Sophie: Huh?
Io: I mean, only if you wanted to! I wouldn't want to put you out or anything!
Sophie: Hee hee! Thank you, Io.
Vyrn: Come on, guys! We gotta get moving!
Lyria: Vyrn! Wait for us!
Just then, a fierce tremor shakes the surrounding earth.
Lyria: Huh?!
Io: Bwah!
Sophie: Io, are you okay?
Io: I'm fine...
Lyria: That tremor... I could sense a great power behind it.
Lyria: Enough dawdling! Come on already!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 4: Scene 2

The source of the tremors turned out to be a mysterious primal beast, who attempts to absorb the party into itself. Sophie's memories return, and she prepares to fight the primal beast in order to protect her friends.

Through a dense thicket lies the secret garden.
But the beautiful flowers that once bloomed there are gone, replaced with a swirling pool of darkness.
???: ――――
Vyrn: Whoa. What the heck is this?!
Sophie: Huh?!
Io: What the— What is that black thing?!
Lyria: This sensation... That's a primal beast!
(Captain)'s party observes the creature from the shadows.
???: ――――
The primal beast seems to be producing monsters from itself, and of a species that the party had only just encountered.
Vyrn: Those monsters... They're like that one we fought earlier!
Io: And is that black thing creating them?
Lyria: No... I don't think it's creating them, exactly...
Sophie addresses her perplexed companions.
Sophie: I remember now. Those monsters are from our world.
Io: Sophie! What is it?
Sophie: I remember everything now. I'm not of this world.
Io: What does that even mean?
Sophie: It means I came here from a different world.
Lyria: A different world...?
Sophie: Yes. To save the world, I had to stop my friend Richard, who'd plunged it into darkness.
Sophie: I was with the others, in Barona's underground temple. We were trying to go back in time to before the world had darkened...
Sophie: But in the process of traveling through time, I was separated from my companions, and ended up here.
Io: Huh!
Sophie: Do you believe my story, Io?
Io: Heh heh. Of course I do!
Another powerful tremor shakes the small island.
Lyria: L-Look! The primal beast, it—
???: ――――
Suddenly, the black whirlpool begins sucking everything around it into the void at its center.
Vyrn: Uh-oh! If we don't do something, we could end up getting swallowed too!
Sophie: I will stop it.
Io: But Sophie! If we defeat that primal beast, you may never be able to—
Sophie: It doesn't matter. I won't stand by and watch someone get hurt. I won't let anyone get hurt again!
Io: Sophie, no! You can't fight it alone!
Sophie: This is my turn to protect you, Io.
Io: (Captain), please! You have to help her!

A Tale of Intersecting Fates - In Search of Lost Memories - Episode 4: Scene 3

The party defeats the primal beast that functions as a gate to Sophie's world. Lyria uses her own power to keep the gate open for a short time. Sophie bids farewell to Io and passes through it. In Sophie's wake, the glowing flower the party had been looking for bursts into full bloom.

???: ――――!
(Captain)'s team was able to stop the primal beast.
The black whirlpool disappears, and the beast's body slowly begins to fade away.
Vyrn: Whew... We did it... We beat that thing. But now, how will Sophie...
Lyria: Urk...
Lyria struggles to slow the beast's disappearance.
Lyria: Sophie... Now's your chance...
Thanks to Lyria's influence, a shining eddy appears at the heart of the primal beast.
Lyria: Hurry! I can't hold it for long!
Sophie: Lyria!
Io: Sophie, hurry! You haven't much time!
Sophie: But...
Io: Don't give me that puppy-dog look, Sophie! Your friends on the other side are worried about you!
Sophie: I know, but... I haven't had a chance to tell all of you—
Io: Never mind that! This world isn't for you, Sophie. You have to go save your own world!
Sophie: Yes...
Io: Then stop dawdling and run!
Sophie: You're right. Everyone...
Sophie: I'm going now. Goodbye.
Io: Don't say goodbye!
Io: I know we'll see each other again, once you set things right on your own world.
Sophie: I...
Sophie: Thank you, Io. Thank you, everyone...
Sophie clutches the pendant that had been dangling around her neck...
And without looking back, dives into the shimmering pool.
Sophie: (See you again...)
For a moment, Sophie's form seems wrapped in light, but the silhouette steadily dissipates.
As soon as it disappears, Lyria releases her control.
The giant whirlpool of light vanishes in an instant.
Lyria: I think... That was long enough...
Vyrn: You did it, Lyria!
Io: Thank you, Lyria.
Lyria: I'm just glad I was able to help Sophie.
The tranquil scenery of the garden spreads out before them, as if nothing unusual had happened at all.
Io: Huh...?
Io suddenly notices a flower at her feet.
Vyrn: I've never seen a flower like this around here before.
Io gingerly picks up the flower.
Lyria: Everyone, look! The petals are glowing!
Vyrn: Whoa, that means... This is the flower from the legend!
Just then, a gust of wind blows through the garden.
The shining petals disintegrate into a puff of tiny particles that are blown high into the blue sky above.
Lyria: The flower!
Vyrn: That was a once in a lifetime discovery!
Io can't help but smile at the distraught expressions upon Lyria and Vyrn's faces.
Io: (See you again, Sophie.)

(Captain) destroyed the primal beast Vacheron and opened the door of space-time.
The three heroes each return to their own world, bringing with them cherished memories of a vast sky.
Yuri: Catch you later. I'm not gonna say goodbye, though—I'm sure we'll see each other again someday.
Rollo: Meow.
Milla: Let us meet again, once we've both finished what needs to be done. Until then, farewell.
Sophie: Bye for now. I know we'll meet again. At least, I hope so.
The experience had kindled something in the hearts of three members of the Grandcypher crew as well.
Eugen: I'm saving a bottle of the good stuff for your next visit. I'll be looking forward to it.
Katalina: I will do what must be done. Thank you for giving me that clarity.
Io: Hurry back soon, okay? It's rude to keep a friend waiting!
And so for Yuri, Milla, and Sophie—the three visitors brought here by Vacheron—the curtain has fallen on their adventures in Phantagrande.
For everyone involved, the experience was but a chapter in the middle of a long, long journey.
But the party keeps the experience close at heart as they take flight to the next new island...
