A Food Tour to Remember

(Captain) decides to take Rimuru and the others on a food tour across the Sky Realm. Shion, however, stays behind, stating that she has something to do. The crew head to their first destination, where Rimuru catches Milim eating monster meat off the ground. Snatching it out of her hand, they all head to the next island.

The sound of cheerful conversation reverberates through the halls of the Grandcypher.
Veldora: Hmmm, not bad... Oh, this one's quite tasty as well!
Milim: Ah, I was saving that for later!
Veldora: Gahaha! You should've written your name on it. This is delicious! It's practically melting in my mouth!
Milim: Hey! Stop chewing! You wanna fight? Let's take this outside!
Veldora: Very well. The deck will serve as our battlefield. I, Storm Dragon Veldora, will sink this ship in its entirety!
Milim: I could sink this thing just as easily! Either way, I'm going to end you!
Lyria: Um... E-excuse me!
Diablo: What should we do, Great Rimuru? If you wish, I can isolate the two of them and maintain the peace and quiet here...
Rimuru: ...
After the incident, Rimuru and the others decided on extending their stay in the Sky Realm for a little while longer.
Originally, their plan for today was to enjoy a relaxing lunch aboard the Grandcypher. However...
Rimuru: Milim, if you want something, you have to stake a claim in advance. And Veldora, you're reaching for too many different dishes.
Rimuru: Besides, why would you two even consider fighting in front of our hosts? Show a little decency!
Rimuru: You can't just go around sinking people's ships! Understood?
Milim & Veldora: Fiiine...
Rimuru: In any case, I agree that the food is delicious. This pie in particular...
Rimuru grabs a freshly baked apple pie and bites into its cinnamon-coated crust.
Rimuru: Mmmm! So light, yet so crispy! The food back in Tempest doesn't even compare to the food here!
Lyria: Hehe, we're glad you like it! Right, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods, sharing with Rimuru that the crewmates who prepared the meal would be overjoyed to hear such high praise.
Rimuru: So instead of having a dedicated chef, you all take turns cooking? That's quite an amazing crew you've got there!
Shion: Hm...
Shuna: What's the matter, Shion?
Shion: Oh... It's nothing.
Milim: That's right! The food is delicious—which is why I couldn't just stand by and watch my food get snatched away from me...
Veldora: And all I wanted was to have a bit more...
Rimuru: Are you two toddlers? Just share!
Vyrn: Haha, don't worry about it! Honestly, you haven't even scratched the surface of what food this world has to offer!
Vyrn: Each island has its own specialty and cuisine—and there are tons of islands!
Lyria: Yep! We've tried all sorts of food at the different places we've been to so far!
Milim: L-like yummy snacks?
Veldora: Or juicy meat dishes?
Vyrn: Yeah! We've had the thickest steaks and the freshest seafood—and desserts filled with the sweetest fruits!
All Three: Drool...
Veldora: My sworn friend, I've made a decision! I will do everything in my power to enjoy this world's many wonderful cuisines!
Rimuru: Huh? What are you—
Milim: Me too! I want to enjoy the food here as well! That's okay, isn't it? It is, right? Okay, be right baaack!
Rimuru: You idiots! Wait up!
Rimuru: (These two are a disaster waiting to happen. I have to stop them from wandering around this world as they please—but how...)
Veldora: I refuse!
Milim: Let's go already!
Rimuru: Get a hold of yourselves—both of you!
Rimuru: (Hm, what to do... Should we head back home right now? I don't know...)
  1. Wanna go island-hopping?

Choose: Wanna go island-hopping?
Vyrn: We still have a bunch of small requests we need to get done, so we'll be goin' back and forth, but...
Lyria: That works out perfectly! If you join us, you'll be able to try out all the different islands' cuisine! Think of it as a food tour!
Rimuru: A food tour...
Rimuru: (A food tour!)
Rimuru: (Delicacies as far as the eye can see! I'd like nothing more than to join them!)
Lyria: What do you say, Rimuru?
Rimuru: W-well, I'd love to, but... is it really okay for us to tag along?
  1. Not a problem.
  2. We welcome you with open arms!

Choose: Not a problem.
Choose: We welcome you with open arms!
Rimuru: In that case... I suppose it'd be nice to learn about the food culture here and take some of that know-how back home.
Rimuru: Thank you for the offer. We gladly accept!
Milim & Veldora: Hurray!
Rimuru: (I-I'm not just trying to be polite. And I'm not getting strung along with the promise of a food tour either!)
Rimuru: Well then, these two are obviously coming, but what about you, Shuna? You can invite Hakurou too, of course.
Shuna: I'd like to accompany you as well, if you don't mind!
Shion: Hm...
Rimuru: Shion?
Shion: As for me...
Shion: My apologies, Great Rimuru, but there are a few duties that I need to attend to as First Secretary.
Rimuru: Really? Now? Are you sure you're okay with that?
Shion: Quite positive! Though it pains me to leave your side, this is my burden to bear!
Shion: With that said... Diablo, as Second Secretary, I leave the Great Rimuru under your care.
Diablo: Say no more. I will do whatever it takes to serve my king—even if it costs me my life.
Rimuru: (This is way too much!)
Rimuru: (But how odd... Normally, she'd practically throw a tantrum in order to come along...)
Vyrn: Hey, Rimuru! If you've made up your mind, let's get ready to go!
Rimuru: Right. Coming!
Rimuru and company agree to partake in the food tour, and they begin preparing for the journey ahead.
Soon, they find themselves en route to their first destination.
Rimuru: This place is rather gloomy.
The island had been ravaged during the War, having served as one of its major battlefields, with many primal beasts still inhabiting the barren land.
Hakuro: Ohoho... How intriguing. I can see traces of combat everywhere.
Soei: There doesn't seem to be any fighting going on at the moment...
Lyria: That's because we're in a dormant season now... The primals are all resting.
Benimaru: I see... It would've been interesting to go up against one of these primals you keep talking about.
Benimaru: Right, Great Rimuru?
Rimuru: I don't get what's so exciting about this...
Lyria: S-sorry! I know this is supposed to be a food tour, but we have to survey the area for monsters first...
Rimuru: Oh, sorry! That's not what I meant. I'm not upset or anything—just a bit confused!
Rimuru: I'm sure there'll be plenty of places to eat once we head to town, right?
Vyrn: You betcha! This part of the island doesn't have much, but the nearby village is actually pretty lively!
Rimuru: Sounds fun. I hope you're as hungry as I am, Milim!
Milim: Hrm? But we're already eating something delicious. Nom, nom...
Deirdre: Indeed! Hm, it has a rather unique spice to it. I could get used to this. Chew, chew...
Rimuru: Hm?
Suspicious as to what Milim and the others are munching on, Rimuru takes a closer look.
Rimuru: Hey!
Ranga: Yes, I can confirm that it is quite spicy, Master!
Milim: Okay, Rimuru. We're taking this dish back home!
Rimuru: You're just eating raw meat! In what world is that a "dish"?
Veldora: The hint of spice seems to be inherent to the meat itself.
Vyrn: P-probably because you're eatin' raw monster flesh...
Rimuru: Spit that out—right this instant!
Rimuru hastily grabs what remains of the monster's carcass from the others.
Rimuru insists that they quickly finish their business and depart for the next destination—hoping to experience a more proper meal this time around.

A Food Tour to Remember: Scene 2

Arriving at Auguste, the party is convinced to go fishing. Milim and Veldora immediately give up, while Diablo, Ranga, and Benimaru go overboard with their skills. Rimuru attempts to stop them but is surprised by a wild bonito. Rimuru defeats the giant fish, and the crew enjoys a luxurious seafood dinner.

Rimuru: Vast, white beaches!
Rimuru: The most relaxing resort!
Rimuru: And seafood galore!
Rimuru: Finally, some rest! For once, a real vacation!
Lyria: Hehehe, it's practically a maze here! This is Cerulean Spa, Auguste's pride and joy!
Veldora: Fascinating... You have a beach so close by, and yet there's an indoor pool. Why?
Rimuru: You're not getting it, Veldora. Such needless luxury is precisely what makes it a resort.
Milim: Really? That's so weird! Whatever though—let's go swimming!
Shuna: Oh my, they have a hot spring here as well. How about a dip, Great Rimuru?
Rimuru: Sounds good to me. Oh, right. (Captain)!
Rimuru: Are you really just here to pick up a reward? Is it okay for us to kick back and relax like this?
(Captain) smiles at Rimuru and nods.
Rimuru: Thanks! You should join us after you're done, so hurry up!
Rimuru and the others spend their day enjoying the resort's various facilities.
After a while, however...
Veldora: Ri...
Milim: Mu...
Milim & Veldora: Ruuu!
Rimuru: Don't tell me you're both already bored of the hotel.
Veldora: That's right! Rimuru, why can't we go to the beach? I'm tired of swimming in the pool!
Milim: Uh-huh! Let us go! We want to have fun outside and find something good to eat!
Rimuru: Blegh... I want to laze around for a little bit longer...
Milim: No! You're my best friend, so you have to come with us!
Veldora: That's right! How can you stay inside with such a beautiful sparkling sea calling for you?
Veldora: What are you, some kind of geezer?
Rimuru: Hrk...
Rimuru: (It's true that I was getting up there in age before I turned into a slime, but... it hurts hearing it out loud!)
As Veldora and Milim attempt to convince Rimuru to go outside, (Captain) arrives back at the resort, rewards in hand.
Vyrn: Hey, what are you guys up to? Weren't ya gonna go sightseeing?
Rimuru: Well, I thought it'd be good to relax a bit first...
Milim: A bit? That's all you've been doing!
Veldora: Yeah! We're at the beach! You know what that means, right? Swimming in the ocean, stuffing yourself with fresh seafood, and hitting on chicks!
Rimuru: I swear, where does he even pick up these ridiculous ideas?
Lyria: Haha! He's got a point though. The weather today is perfect for swimming outside!
Rimuru: Hm...
Rimuru: Well, now that (Captain)'s back, I guess we can get going.
Milim & Veldora: ...!
Veldora: Gwahaha! C'mon, Milim. Let's find a top-tier chef to hit on!
Milim: Okay! There are a bunch of food stalls that way!
Rimuru: I'd better not catch you two causing any trouble.
Rimuru: Now then, (Captain). Care to show us around Auguste?
Vyrn: There's no better place to start a vacation than the beach house, am I right? Grilled seafood, amazing fruit, and all kinda drinks!
Milim: Everything is so shiny and sweet!
Lyria: Nothing beats a nice restaurant meal! Every dish is practically a work of art!
Shuna: Wow! The girls back home would definitely love this place. I need to make a mental note of these.
Lyria: While we're here, we can't say no to freshly caught fish!
Hakuro: Hm? I see that the fishing scene here is thriving. If we have some time to spare, I wouldn't mind sitting down for a session myself.
Spirited Fisherman: Oh? Do you do a lot of fishing, mister?
Hakuro: Ohoho, I've only dabbled in it.
Spirited Fisherman: Haha, is that so? That look in your eyes certainly could've fooled me!
Spirited Fisherman: Well, if you're hankering for a go at it yourself, just give me a holler. I'll let you in on a little secret...
Spirited Fisherman: The best food in Auguste is made from seafood caught straight from the sea and prepared right then and there! You heard it here first!
Veldora: Really now? Better than even the food stands and restaurants?
Spirited Fisherman: Of course! Freshness is the key to good seafood! Raw or fried, doesn't matter—it'll taste amazing.
Milim: Gulp...
Veldora: Rimuru! I've decided on our next activity!
Veldora: We're going fishing!
Rimuru: U-uh... Sure, sounds good to me.
Hakuro: In that case, I shall join you... Ohoho, I hope I catch the most delicious fish for the Great Rimuru.
Diablo: Fish... for the Great Rimuru? Hm, I apologize if this isn't my place to ask, but I would also like to participate in the fishing session.
Benimaru: A fishing contest? Count me in. Soei, you'll join us too, right?
Soei: If it's for the purpose of serving the Great Rimuru, I suppose I'm not against the idea.
Rimuru: I guess we have a fishing competition on our hands? Well, I guess doing this sort of thing is good from time to time.
Rimuru: I'm okay with the fishing, but no disturbing the other fishermen, got it? I want you all on your best behavior!
The crew borrow some fishing rods from their newfound friend, who gives them a quick rundown on the basics. After a while...
Milim: I'm tired of this! Let's race to that island over there!
Veldora: Gwahaha! You're on! But you have to swim—no flying allowed!
Shuna: Um, aren't you two going to fish?
Milim: Fishing's boring! Shuna, you be our referee!
Shuna: Huh? Fine, but just this once...
Rimuru: I knew this would happen...
Hakuro: Fishing is nothing more than a waiting game, after all. It's only natural that the young'uns become bored.
Rimuru: How are you holding up, Soei?
Soei: Waiting in silence is but another one of my duties.
Rimuru: I guess that was a silly question... It's nice knowing you two are always by my side—fishing or otherwise!
Rimuru: Anyway, what exactly are they doing?
Rimuru looks to the side and notices Benimaru, Ranga, and Diablo staring seriously into the water.
Benimaru: This is taking far too long, don't you think?
Ranga: I thought the fish would find it an honor to be caught by the Great Rimuru...
Diablo: Indeed, these sea creatures show no regard for my king—a disrespect of the highest order!
Ranga: Hear, hear! How dare they keep our master waiting!
Benimaru: Shall we?
Diablo & Ranga: ...
Rimuru's three subordinates turn toward the calm, sparkling waters and begin their assault.
Benimaru heats the sea with his flames, while Diablo uses his dark powers to quickly expand the heat's reach.
They finish off with a lightning strike from Ranga, when...
Benimaru: Look! The fish are floating up!
Diablo: Our methods may have been a bit forceful, but the results speak for themselves—look at all these delicious fish on which the Great Rimuru can dine.
Ranga: Awoooo!
Rimuru: What in the world were you all thinking? You're going to ruin the entire ecosystem here!
Rimuru dashes forward in a panic, and in that moment...
The water around the crew erupts with a huge splash, and out of the sea comes a colossal shadow.
Benimaru: Great Rimuru!
Rimuru: ...!
Without so much as a glance upward, Rimuru releases a thread that makes quick work of the gargantuan creature.
Rimuru: Whoa! This thing's massive! What even is it—a bonito?
Hakuro: Impressive. It appears you've captured the largest fish of them all, Great Rimuru.
Vyrn: Wow! That was amazing! You took out an entire bonito with only one move!
Veldora: Bonito? What an odd name—but that's definitely a big catch. That's my sworn friend for ya!
Shuna: Combined with all these other fish, we should be able to feast tonight.
Rimuru: Hm... Well, all's well that ends well. Let's head back and eat!
After heading back to the beach house, the crew borrows the kitchen and begins cooking. Soon enough, evening rolls around.
Shuna: Dinner is served!
The table before Shuna is filled from edge to edge with an array of extravagant seafood dishes.
Milim: Whoa...
Rimuru: Everything looks so scrumptious. It must've been hard making all this food by yourself.
Shuna: Actually, Diablo and our fisherman friend from earlier helped out, so it was perfectly manageable. Besides, I enjoy working with new ingredients.
Rimuru: "New" would be one way of putting it... But I guess we've eaten stranger things back in Tempest.
Shuna: Haha, once you've had monster stew, nothing surprises you.
Milim: So, um... When do we start eating? I can't wait for much longer!
Rimuru: Ah, right. Sorry for keeping you waiting. Okay, everybody!
Rimuru takes a good look at the faces lining the table and smiles.
Rimuru: Thank you, Auguste, for providing us with such fine delicacies! Let's dig in!
A series of thank yous can be heard echoing down the table following Rimuru's opening remark.
The sound of lively chatter fills the evening air as (Captain), Rimuru, and the others feast on their magnificent seafood haul.

A Food Tour to Remember: Scene 3

The crew makes a quick stop at Namvia. Munching on some briny-bites, they soon spot a sign advertising an impromptu manzai contest. Veldora suddenly signs them up for it, and he, Rimuru, and Milim end up as participants. As the three perform, they're joined on stage by the other party members and somehow take first place.

After experiencing a wide range of other islands, the crew's journey brings them to their final destination—Namvia, the town where laughter never ceases.
Rimuru and the others explore the lively town, enjoying its food and atmosphere, when suddenly...
Stall Worker: Sorry to keep y'all waiting! One order of pipin' hot briny-bites! I threw in an extra since you're such a cutie—on the house!
Rimuru: Hey, isn't this...
Rimuru: (This looks exactly like takoyaki! Hm, maybe it tastes different...)
Rimuru eats one of the so-called briny-bites and is immediately hit by a wave of flavorful chewiness.
Rimuru: Nope, definitely takoyaki!
Shuna: We also have something similar back in Tempest, but this is certainly an interesting take on the dish.
Benimaru: The ingredients are different though. This seems like some sort of monster meat...
Rimuru: (I guess people come up with similar foods even if they're worlds apart...)
Stall Worker: How about some yakisoba? If you're interested, I'll give ya a free size upgrade!
Although enticed by the generous offer, Rimuru looks around to scout out the other food stalls and instead notices a crowd beginning to form.
Rimuru: Hm? What's with all the people? It doesn't look like they're lining up for anything either...
Vyrn: It says there's an impromptu manzai contest on that sign over there!
Rimuru: Manzai? As in the form of comedy?
Lyria: Yep, it's really fun! Even our crew members love it!
Rimuru: (They really have manzai? I used to watch a bit on TV back when I was still a human, but it's been a while...)
Rimuru: Hey, everybody. While we're here—
Veldora: We'd like to register as the "La Tempesta," please.
Contest Staff: Of course! Thank you for signing up! Please wait for your turn in that building over there.
Milim: Gotcha! Let's-a go, La Tempesta!
Rimuru: "Let's-a go, La Tempesta!"
Rimuru: Do you hear yourself?
Rimuru: You've got to be kidding me! Why would you enter the contest? Since when were either of you comedians?
Milim: Why? Because if we win, we'll get a Namvia Food Tour Ticket, that's why!
Veldora: It's an amazing prize. For one whole day, you get to eat anything you want in Namvia free of charge...
Benimaru: You even receive priority entry into the town's most popular restaurants... Not that I'll be participating, mind you.
Rimuru: Et tu, Benimaru? Well, in any case, I get your motivation.
Rimuru: But I won't allow Veldora and Milim to perform together.
Veldora: Huh?
Milim: How come?
Rimuru: Do you two have any idea of what manzai is even supposed to be?
Veldora: We just have to beat the other contestants, right? Just leave it to us. We won't lose.
Milim: Right. Worst case, we take control of the entire town.
Rimuru: You don't get it at all! But okay, let's assume you two somehow knew what you were talking about...
Rimuru: Explain to me how you're supposed to do manzai with two fools and no foil!
Veldora: Wait, what?
Milim: I don't get why, but I think I'm totally shocked!
Rimuru: Sheesh... Listen up. What you need is Benimaru to stand in as your foil...
Benimaru: Thank you, but I'll pass.
Rimuru: What?
Benimaru: From my understanding, a manzai performance requires getting up on stage and speaking in front of a crowd, correct?
Benimaru: That would make you the most fitting candidate, Great Rimuru!
Shuna: I concur. You have more than enough oratory experience, after all.
Diablo: Indeed. No one else can excite a crowd like you do, my king...
Rimuru: Urk... Well, um... Right! What say you, (Captain)?
Rimuru: (I'm begging you! Tell them that being a foil is out of my league!)
  1. Don't you think it'd be fun?
  2. I can't wait to see you onstage.

Choose: Don't you think it'd be fun?
Choose: I can't wait to see you onstage.
Rimuru: Hrgh...
It takes a few attempts, but the crew finally succeeds at convincing Rimuru to participate in the manzai contest as La Tempesta's foil.
Rimuru: Sigh... Well, at least we know the contest is for amateurs what with it being impromptu... I just need to focus...
Milim: Yeah! You've got this in the bag!
Veldora: With Rimuru on our side, there's no way we can lose! We're going to wipe the floor with our enemies!
Rimuru: I already told you this isn't that sort of contest. Whatever... I'll try coming up with something...
The trio bide their time by chatting as they wait for La Tempesta to be called to stage.
Unbeknownst to them, a few suspicious figures watch closely from the shadows.
???: I understand that the Great Rimuru is perfectly in control of the situation, but as Second Secretary, I can't help but feel the need to be of some sort of assistance...
???: It would make for a rather memorable occasion if we could all stand up there and enjoy the moment together, don't you think?
???: Ohoho, it's not every day that the Great Rimuru does something so exciting. It would be pure foolishness to pass up such an opportunity.
Contest Staff: Thank you all for waiting! Self-described only as, "The strongest ever," next up is an enigmatic trio of warriors from far, far away!
Contest Staff: Please welcome La Tempesta!
Rimuru: Good day, good afternoon, good evening! Rimuru here!
Milim: And I'm the Demon Lord Milim Nava! You can call me the Destroyer!
Veldora: Kneel before me, for I am the Storm Dragon Veldora Tempest!
Rimuru: The three of us are—
Diablo: Allow me to introduce myself. I am Diablo, Second Secretary under the Great Rimuru.
Rimuru: Huh?
Benimaru: The name's Benimaru, Samurai General.
Shuna: My name is Shuna, and I serve as a priestess.
Soei: I'm Soei.
Hakuro: Hakuro is my name, but pay this old man no heed.
Ranga: I'm Ranga, my master's shadow!
Veldora: The nine of us are...
Milim: La Tempesta!
Rimuru: There's too many of you! I didn't ask for this! I thought it was supposed to just be the three of us!
Ranga: I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be much of a shadow if I weren't always by your side!
Hakuro: Ohoho, it's all in good fun. Who knows? It very well may do you young'uns some good.
Rimuru: It won't! A comedy nonet with eight fools and one foil? Make it make sense!
Milim: C'mon, entertain us for a moment. Think of it as a practice date. You're the only one who can do this.
Veldora: Hm, fascinating. I'd like to hear what kind of fun date plans you have in mind.
Rimuru: Hey, quit making jokes on your own!
Benimaru: Oh, you're pretty cute. Want to have some fun?
Soei: You're better off hanging out with us instead of such a lousy boyfriend.
Rimuru: And you're not helping!
Veldora: Eek! Stop it!
Rimuru: Who made you the girlfriend?
The audience roars with laughter watching Rimuru's desperate attempts to keep up with the others.
Diablo: They like our jokes! Good work, my king!
Shuna: Thank you all for showing such enthusiasm!
Rimuru: Argh! Let's just get this over with!
The eight-to-one ratio of fools to foils provides the audience with a surprisingly fresh comedy experience, and as a result...
Veldora: Let's go to that restaurant next!
Milim: We can't skip this one though! We have to eat here first!
Rimuru: The food tour ticket lets you eat for free, so just go to both...
Rimuru: Sigh... I still don't get how we won...
Lyria: You won because you were the funniest! Why don't you perform for us on the Grandcypher next?
Vyrn: Honestly, I'm surprised you were able to get all those quips in—and you even wrapped your show up nicely at the end.
Rimuru: Heh... To be fair, it's not like those fools were any different from how they usually are...
Rimuru: (Although if Shion were here, I'm not sure if I would've been able to get a hold of things...)
Rimuru: (Speaking of which, I wonder what she's doing now? She must be feeling a bit lonely...)
Rimuru: ...
Rimuru: We're going home as soon as you guys are done! I'm exhausted—and I'm already stuffed!
Though other party members voice their disappointment, Rimuru tunes out their pleas and looks up toward the night sky.
Stomach full and ready to rest, Rimuru begins to worry about the one subordinate who had decided to stay behind.

A Food Tour to Remember: Scene 4

Returning to the ship, Rimuru finds Shion waiting for them with apple pie. Grimacing, the Demon Lord takes a bite and is surprised to find that the pie is actually delicious. Having learned how to cook from the crew, Shion then brings out a mountain of culinary abominations—to which Rimuru could do nothing but scream.

Rimuru and company successfully acquire an entire cookbook's worth of recipes during their food tour across the skies.
After finishing up the last of their requests, (Captain) and the others finally decide to head back to the Grandcypher.
Milim: Hm? What's with the sweet scent? It smells so good!
Lyria: It really does. I think it's coming from the kitchen... Maybe someone's cooking!
Milim: That must mean... it's time for dessert!
Rimuru: Uh, you ate that much and still have room for more?
Shuna: Haha, they say dessert has its own stomach, after all.
Milim: Spot on! You've got it! Now, to the kitchen we go!
Rimuru and the others waltz into the kitchen, where they spot a lit oven producing sweet wafts of steam.
Vyrn: I knew it! Somebody's been baking!
Lyria: I wonder who it is though. Lowain-san? Ladiva-san? Someone else?
Rimuru: Hm... I'm not sure, but what I do know is that being here makes me hungry...
Rimuru: (The pie I had at the start of our trip was really good. It'd be nice if we could end our time here with a recipe from the Grandcypher!)
Vyrn: Hehe, I hope we get to have some later. Nothing beats a batch of freshly baked pastries!
The crew patiently waits, enjoying the pleasant scents and imagining what sort of delicious treats the oven could be holding.
Finally, the sound of footsteps breaks their trance, and a familiar face comes walking through the kitchen doors.
Shion: Oh my, I see the Great Rimuru has returned! Welcome!
Rimuru: Hey, Shion. Yeah, we're back! Did you follow this amazing sweet scent here too?
Shion: Pardon? I'm just here to see how the baking is going. I believe they're almost ready.
Rimuru: Huh?
Shion: Let's see... Yes, they've browned beautifully.
Shion opens the oven and pokes around at its contents.
Rimuru: W-wait a sec, Shion... Are you telling me you're the one who baked those?
Shion: I am. They look to be about done! Would you like one, Great Rimuru?
Shion: It's a simple apple pie, but I assure you it's delicious!
Smiling, Shion excitedly retrieves a single pie from the oven. A strange purple foam rises from its crust, and a mysterious horn can be seen protruding from the pastry.
Rimuru: Hrk...
Vyrn: This... is an apple pie?
Benimaru: Ah, I just remembered I have, uh... matters that need attending to.
Rimuru: (I-it's true that Shion's Master Chef skill allows her to make any food delicious...)
Rimuru: (But this pastry looks like some sort of baked abomination... I'm sure it tastes good though. There's absolutely no way it doesn't! And yet...)
Shion: You... aren't in the mood to eat now, I'm assuming. You must still be full from all the wonderful cuisine you've had so far...
Rimuru: H-hrgh! Actually, uh... I'm hungry!
Rimuru: (Here goes nothing! It's fine... I'm sure it tastes fine!)
After repeating those words of self-reassurance, Rimuru prepares for the worst and takes a small bite.
The pie's crisp outer layer gives way to a soft, fragrant center, and the light sweetness is accentuated by a faint but noticeable spice.
Rimuru: Urgh!
Ranga: A-are you okay, Master?
Rimuru: Wait... This is amazing! Like, actually really good!
Rimuru: (Usually, I'd retch eating something like this... But this tastes familiar...)
Rimuru: In any case, I agree that the food is delicious. This pie in particular...
Rimuru: Mmmm! So soft, yet so crispy! The food back in Tempest doesn't even compare to the food here!
Rimuru: (This is exactly like that one pie I really enjoyed! Appearance aside, obviously.)
Shion: It tastes good, doesn't it? Ehehe, I thought you'd like it!
Rimuru: Yeah, it's great... But how did you even make this?
Shion: Well, you see! After you all left, I decided to undergo intense baking training!
Shion: I need to find out who made that pie...
Shion: I asked around the ship to figure out who usually cooks around here...
Shion: And then requested that they teach me their ways—which is how I acquired this recipe! I will admit that my persistence may have been a tad excessive though.
Rimuru: I see... So you learned from the crew here. I suppose I should go thank them for their help.
Shuna: Wow, it really does taste good! I'm surprised you were able to replicate this flavor so closely.
Milim: I approve... One more, please! I have to say—you've really outdone yourself with these!
Rimuru: Definitely. I'm sure the effects of your skill are also at play here, but the fact that you were able to bake such a similar pastry is a testament to your research.
Rimuru: Well done—and thank you.
Shion: ...!
Shion: Of course! Hehe, one more round of pies—coming right up!
Rimuru: (I wanted to see if I could get my hands on a few recipes while here on the Grandcypher...)
Rimuru: (But I suppose I can hold off for now. Shion went out of her way to learn how to bake these pies, after all.)
Rimuru: (If I'm ever in the mood for some more, I'll just ask Shion to make them for me.)
Rimuru: (It's probably better this way... Certainly more memorable, if nothing else.)
Seeing Shion happily carry in another tray of baked goods, Rimuru can't help but smile.
Shion: Order up! I made a bunch of other food as well, so feel free to eat to your heart's content!
Rimuru: Hm?
Out of the kitchen comes a cart overflowing with all sorts of horrifying dishes. It appears the frothing pies merely marked the beginning of the feast to come.
The strange stew contains what looks like the remnants of some kind of arm, and the meat skewers seem to be giving off a sound that's oddly reminiscent of a ghastly shriek.
Some purple bread can be seen wiggling about on one of the plates, while the meatballs move in a way that's suspiciously similar to that of a living being's eye.
Rimuru: Nope! I'm not doing this!
In an instant, the dining hall turns into what could only be described as a scene straight out of one's worst nightmare. Seeing this, Rimuru lets out an involuntary scream.
And so marks the end of the party's grand food tour. The memories made through the ups and downs of this long journey will forever be etched into Rimuru's mind.
