My Final Plan
Some time has passed since Catura and (Captain) became a couple. Catura thinks about how she met (Captain), who then arrives to take her on a date. While waiting for Catura to get ready, (Captain) takes out a small box and looks at the ring stored inside.
In one of many possible futures, a certain young lady's love has borne fruit.
After a long period of bliss, her most coveted moment is now fast approaching.
One winter afternoon, Catura is sitting on her bed engrossed in her diary.
Catura: The day that I met (Captain)...
Catura: I remember it well... I was by myself in the fields, when suddenly the Grandcypher landed...
Moomoo: Moo!
Catura: That's right... You tossed flower petals to indicate the arrival of destiny, didn't you?
Catura: U-um, Prince Charming...
Catura: Please... Please marry me!
Catura, Moomoo, and Milky slowly peruse the diary.
Catura: When we first met, I felt in my heart that I had found my prince, but at first that was just a vague dream...
Catura: But as we traveled together, I became friends with Lyria, and I spent time with everyone...
Catura: I came to really feel that I loved (Captain) more than anything else in the skies.
Catura: It's like a dream, but it isn't... I swore that I would make it into reality...
Moomoo: Moo!
Catura: That's right... Now I've learned to always keep my fingers out of the way when using a knife... And to plug the drain before filling up the bathtub...
Milky: ...?
Catura: Moohoohoo... What do I want our life to look like?
Catura: We'll clean the cows' poop first thing in the morning... Then roll around on the grass and bathe in the sun in the afternoon... And at night, we'll have some delicious stew before heading to bed...
Catura: But... I want to do what (Captain) wants to as well...
Moomoo: Moo, moo!
Catura: Oh, I remember this page... This was from when I tried Operation Milky Love Story during the holidays...
Catura has to turn the page several times just to read through that day's entry, and notes how the excitement that she felt had made her handwriting especially exuberant.
Catura: (Captain) gave me a wonderful dress...
Catura: And after the holiday party ended, we walked around the empty town... Just the two of us...
Milky: ...!
Catura: That's right... I thought up all kinds of operations, didn't I?
Catura: But... My final plan still hasn't—
As soon as Catura hears the approaching footsteps, her tail starts to swish from side to side.
Catura: Ah... It's time!
Catura stands up and opens her door.
- I'm here!
- I've been dying to see you!
Choose: I'm here!
Choose: I've been dying to see you!
Catura: (Captain)!
(Captain) pats Catura on the head and notices the open diary.
Looking somewhat embarrassed, the captain pulls out a journal that looks rather similar.
Catura: Ah! You've been reminiscing too, (Captain)?
Catura: Moohoohoo... I guess we've started to think alike...
(Captain) and Catura grin as they gaze into each other's eyes.
Catura: ...
Unexpectedly, Catura slowly brings her hand up to her face and pinches her cheek.
Catura: Ow...
- Catura?
- What are you doing!
Choose: Catura?
Choose: What are you doing!
Catura: Hehe... It hurts, so this is real life...
Catura: It happened so long ago... But I still have trouble believing it...
Catura: You know... That we became lovers...
Seeing Catura blush, I feel my own cheeks start to flush with color as well.
A lot of time has passed since the two of us met—enough for me to notice that she's grown a little.
Though her height hasn't changed all that much, the same can't be said about our relationship.
- What about our date though?
Choose: What about our date though?
Catura: Ah... I was so distracted by my diary that I forgot to get ready...
No matter. I've made sure we have plenty of time, even more than I always do.
- That's fine. Take as long as you need.
Choose: That's fine. Take as long as you need.
Catura: I'm sorry... Thank you for always being so patient...
Catura: Just give me a bit... to get changed...
I nod, as I always do, and step out of the room.
Am I really managing to act like I always do?
- Hah...
Choose: Hah...
I take a deep breath and stick my hand into my pocket in search of reassurance.
Reaching beyond my journal, I grasp a small red box.
Though I've already checked more times than I can count, I open it once more.
Glistening inside is a small ring.
My Final Plan: Scene 2
Catura emerges wearing the outfit that (Captain) gave her for the holidays, and the couple heads off to visit a park featured in one of her favorite illustrated stories. After Catura's requests to be bridal carried, she notices the box in (Captain)'s pocket, and the captain sets out for their next destination, a restaurant, to distract her.
As I anxiously wait, I hear the familiar sound of her footsteps.
Though she's doing what she can to hurry, I've spent enough time with her to recognize that plodding pace regardless.
Catura: Thank you for waiting, (Captain)!
- That outfit's from...
Choose: That outfit's from...
Catura: Moohoohoo... These are my favorite clothes, the first ones you ever gave me...
Catura: This is what comes to mind whenever I want to look my best...
When Catura decided to go home to the Ox Temple before the winter holidays, I spent a lot of time looking for nice warm clothes and eventually settled on this outfit.
I've since realized that though the parts of her that it covers are probably plenty warm, it leaves a lot of skin exposed to the elements.
- Well then, shall we go?
- Let's hit the road.
Choose: Well then, shall we go?
Choose: Let's hit the road.
Catura: Yeah... We're off, Moomoo, Milky...
Moomoo & Milky: Moo!
...!
Lyria: W-well! Good luck, (Captain)!
Catura: ...?
Good luck?
Vyrn: U-uh, don't worry about it! Have a good date!
Vyrn, Lyria, Moomoo, and Milky all know about what I plan to do today.
Seeing that they're all even more nervous than I am somehow lets me relax just a little bit.
Catura: Wow... This park really looks just like the one from "Dinner at the Ranch" did!
Catura: The heroine and the boy sat on this bench by the fountain and ate rice bread together, which was...
Today I've brought Catura to the park that a scene from one of her favorite illustrated stories takes place in.
Watching her excitedly explain the story to me lifts my spirits, but...
As soon as I recall what awaits me, the anxiety returns.
Catura: Ah...
Catura: I'm sorry, (Captain)... I got too excited...
- No no, I'm sorry for being a drag!
Choose: No no, I'm sorry for being a drag!
Noticing that Catura's tail is drooping dejectedly, I rush to change my attitude.
It would be foolish to allow this to prevent me from enjoying my time with her today.
- Let's go buy some rice bread!
Choose: Let's go buy some rice bread!
Catura: Really? I was actually hoping that we could do that, (Captain)!
Catura and I go to buy some rice bread made to look exactly like the kind that shows up in the story.
Catura: Moohoohoo... So this is the flavor of their romance...
- The flavor of their romance?
Choose: The flavor of their romance?
Catura: You see, the heroine's family runs a rice shop, and the boy's family runs a bakery, so at first they don't get along...
Catura: But then they have to work together to defeat the Cooking King, and after a lot of hard work they end up inventing rice bread!
Catura: You won't find a plot development more soft and toasty than that!
I unfortunately can't say that I really understand what she's saying, but apparently this bread is pretty important.
Catura: Once we're done eating I'm going to hurt my foot, so I want you to bridal carry me!
- You're going to what?
Choose: You're going to what?
Catura: It's one of my other favorite scenes... The heroine hurts her foot doing bread training and the boy has to carry her home...
Catura takes out the relevant volume of the illustrated story and shows me the cover, which I distinctly remember seeing at some point.
- This is the one from that night...
Choose: This is the one from that night...
Not too long after we met, Catura and I went to a hill that had a great view of the night sky.
But for some reason, Milky refused to start up to take us there.
Catura: O-oh no, I wonder what's wrong... There should be enough power...
Catura: What should we do... At my pace, we won't make it back... until morning...
I suddenly decided to imitate the cover of the illustrated story that someone had left on Milky and picked Catura up.
Catura: Eeep! (Captain)?
Catura: Oh my gosh! It's almost like a dream... except, it isn't...
Catura: Moohoohoo... I want to do that again...
- I mean, I'm fine with it...
Choose: I mean, I'm fine with it...
That said, I'm not fine with her getting hurt. I move to pick her up as soon as she finishes eating, and find her light body little more of a burden than a bundle of cotton candy.
Catura: Whoah!
Catura: Wow! It's like I'm a princess...
Catura gleefully wraps her arms around my neck.
Catura: Oh? What's this square thing that I feel...
- ...!
- Whoops!
Choose: ...!
Choose: Whoops!
Shoot! I didn't anticipate doing this, and now she's noticed the box!
- Right then, on to our next stop!
Choose: Right then, on to our next stop!
Catura: L-like this? But once we leave the park, there'll be so many people...
- We're reenacting that scene!
- Don't worry about it!
Choose: We're reenacting that scene!
Choose: Don't worry about it!
Catura: Oh... I'm so embarrassed...
Catura: We can't do this... Hehe...
After confirming that Catura's only pretending to be opposed to the idea, I carry her out into town, hoping that this will be enough to make her forget about the box.
As the sun begins to approach the horizon, I reach the restaurant I've reserved for dinner, still carrying Catura in my arms.
Catura: Wow! Is it really okay for me to go into such a nice restaurant?
- I'm feeling a bit nervous too...
- Of course it is.
Choose: I'm feeling a bit nervous too...
Choose: Of course it is.
Catura: Oh? That building next door sure is nice too...
- Let's go in!
Choose: Let's go in!
I bring Catura into the restaurant before she can focus too much on our surroundings.
Catura: Hehe, we sure surprised the waiter, didn't we...
Unfortunately, entering the restaurant while still carrying Catura led to things getting a little bit awkward...
Catura: I always get to see how dashing you are, so it's nice to see your cute side too sometimes...
- ... Thanks.
Choose: ... Thanks.
Though this is my first time coming to this place, I've spent a lot of time looking into it to make sure that it's perfect.
The building is like a castle from an illustrated story, and the interior is quite elegant, so hopefully she likes it...
Catura: Moohoohoo... It's like we're attending a dinner party from an illustrated story...
Thank goodness... It looks like asking Moomoo and Milky for advice was a good call.
After a short wait, the staff starts bringing us the full course meal we ordered.
As I look at the unfamiliar dishes, unsure of how to start eating them, Catura does something I didn't anticipate.
Catura: Here you go... Say "ahh..."
- Here, of all places?
Choose: Here, of all places?
Catura: I thought that maybe your arms were tired from carrying me...
They're really not, but...
- Ahh...
Choose: Ahh...
I decided to take her up on the offer anyway.
Catura: You know... If you're not tired, than maybe you could do it for me too...
Catura: It tastes better that way...
Once we finish eating the foods we'd never seen before in a manner that we've become familiar with, Catura closes her eyes and smiles in satisfaction.
Catura: Whew... That sure was good...
- ...
Choose: ...
Catura: Oh? (Captain)?
- I'm going to go use the restroom.
Choose: I'm going to go use the restroom.
Catura: Okay... See you soon...
Catura: (It's gotten dark outside... I guess it's about time to head back...)
Catura: (I'm so glad that we got to spend this special day together again this year...)
Moomoo: Moo!
Catura: Oh? Moomoo?
Catura: What are you doing here? I thought you were staying on the Grand—
Moomoo: Moo!
Catura: I'm supposed to follow you? But where are we going?
My Final Plan: Scene 3
While Catura is waiting for (Captain) to return to their table, Moomoo appears and takes her to a nearby chapel. There she finds (Captain) holding a bouquet of roses, who then gets down on one knee and proposes to her. Overwhelmed with joy, Catura accepts, and the two embrace.
Moomoo takes Catura into the beautiful chapel she saw next door.
Illuminated by pure white light and completely devoid of sound, the building feels as if it's cut off from the rest of the world.
Catura: Wow! It's so pretty!
Moomoo: Moo!
Catura: What? I'm supposed to look over there?
(Captain): ...
At the other end of a long red carpet stands (Captain), holding a bouquet of roses.
Catura: (Captain)! Wh-what is...
As Catura slowly approaches (Captain), Moomoo disappears from her sight, leaving the two of them alone.
Catura: A bouquet of roses... They show up all the time in illustrated stories, but I've never seen one in real life before...
- Today is a special day, so...
Choose: Today is a special day, so...
I intended to finish the sentence with, "I wanted to give them to you," but my heart was racing so fast that I'm not confident that I did.
Catura: They're for me?
Catura: Moohoohoo... Thank you so much...
Catura: Today is the anniversary of the day we first met, after all...
Catura: I actually have a present for you too... Back on the Grandcypher...
Thanking her in advance, I hand her the bouquet.
Catura: Wow, it's so big... I can barely carry it...
I get ready to move on to the next step, but then process what she just said and realize that it's a problem.
- Could you put that here for a second?
Choose: Could you put that here for a second?
Catura: ...?
Sure... If you say so...
- I actually have something else for you...
- I have something important to ask you.
Choose: I actually have something else for you...
Choose: I have something important to ask you.
Catura: ...
Catura's expression changes as she seems to notice something.
- I had fun today.
Choose: I had fun today.
Catura: So did I. Every day with you is fun.
- Yeah, you're right. Every day is fun.
Choose: Yeah, you're right. Every day is fun.
"Day after day... Getting used to the pace that you walk, waking up early with you..."
Catura: Trying to wear platform shoes to get closer to your height, messing up and hurting my ankle...
"Learning that you fold your socks up separately instead of binding them together..."
Catura: Seeing you search harder than I do when one of my socks goes missing...
"Watching you struggle to eat meat that has bones and cutting it up for you..."
Catura: Yawning at the same time as you and laughing together when our eyes meet...
Catura: Moohoohoo... We're making a life together, aren't we? Like making bread from rice...
"Rice bread, huh? The more I think about it, the more things come to mind that I want to do with you now."
- Your dream is—
Choose: Your dream is—
"Your dream is now my dream as well."
Catura: My dream... is now our...
Catura: Does that mean...
I get down onto one knee in front of Catura.
Trying to keep my hand from shaking, I pull the box out of my pocket.
- I want you to be by my side forever.
Choose: I want you to be by my side forever.
I carefully open the box and show her the ring.
Catura: ...!
Despite my shaking hands, I open the box without incident. Thank goodness I practiced so many times.
Catura: (Captain)...
Catura: ...
Catura: Oh mooey... This is no fair...
Catura: Even though... I wanted to be with you forever first...
Catura: Even though... I spent so much time planning my final operation...
Catura: Now... You've made it all pointless...
Catura smiles, and glimmers of light can be seen in the corners of her eyes.
Catura: I've wanted to say this... for so long...
Catura: Yes. If you'll have me, I'd love that more than anything.
Responding to (Captain)'s classic proposal with her own set of words that she has long held dear to her heart, she jumps into the captain's arms.
Swathed in the gentle light, Catura stands on her tiptoes and (Captain) bends down so that they can embrace each other.
Moomoo: Moo!
Suddenly they find that they are joined by Moomoo...
And, in celebration of their newfound eternity, the couple is showered in flower petals as they were on the day that they met.
