Mimlemel Sets Sail

Clad in her brand-new swimsuit, Mimlemel arrives in Auguste only to realize that she can't bring Stumpeye, Hornby, and Pun-Kin into the water. Stumpeye and company save the day by recruiting an old life guard's bugle named Bugleena, as well as an elder turtle named Turtleton, to accompany her in their place.

With summer on the horizon, (Captain) and Lyria cheerfully plan for the crew's upcoming vacation in Auguste.
???: Guys. Can we talk?
Suddenly a young lady with mint-colored hair pokes her head into the room, strolling up to them as they make their preparations.
Her name is Mimlemel. A mysterious girl of few words, she instead uses the horn she carries to express herself.
After encountering (Captain) and company in a faraway forest, she now sails the skies as a member of their crew.

Although Mimlemel seems to be capable of breathing life into inanimate objects, the mystery behind her power has yet to be solved.
Lyria: Sure, Mimlemel! We're all ears!
Mimlemel: Toot-toot!
Mimlemel: I want to see the ocean. I'm coming to Auguste.
Lyria: Really? Yay! This will be our first beach trip together!
Mimlemel: Nice. But I need the right clothes. Help me pick something out.
Lyria: Of course! Let's go shopping right now!
Djeeta is the Main Character

Lyria: You should come along too, (Captain). We could use your input!
Mimlemel: Smart and stylish is best. Hope we find something.
And so (Captain) and company set out in search of the perfect swimsuit, in order to prepare Mimlemel for some fun in the sun.
Gran is the Main Character

Lyria: Hehe. I hope we find the perfect swimsuit.
Mimlemel: Tootle-too!
(Captain) smiles as he watches Lyria and Mimlemel bounce with excitement on their way into town.
Stumpeye: Well, I'll be. Never thought I'd see the day she'd invite herself along. I can feel my dried up sap runnin' again!
Hornby: It certainly is a pleasant surprise. All the fun she's had with (Captain) and the others must have inspired her to take the initiative.
Pun-Kin: Ehehe. The ocean, huh? Must be totally different from lakes and fields and whatnot. I can't wait for our vacation with the princess!
Stumpeye: Listen up, tenderfoot. We need to flesh out a plan so we don't end up bein' a bunch of stumps in the mud. Got it?
Pun-Kin: You bet! Oh boy, I'm so excited!
Hornby: I've heard the ocean is enormous. That means I can sing to my heart's content! My melody will carry all the way to the horizon!
Mimlemel: Tootle-tootle-too!
Stumpeye: And naturally, Mim'll be ridin' yers truly. These wheels'll carry her anywhere, be it land or sea.
Stumpeye: That's right—even across the waves!
Mimlemel: Tweedle-deedle-doo!
Pun-Kin: Hey, no fair! In that case, I'll, um... I'll...
Pun-Kin: I know! I'll store up lots of juice so she can have a nice, cool drink whenever she gets thirsty!
Mimlemel: Pumpkin juice...
Mimlemel: Nice.
Mimlemel: Tweedle-deedle-doo!
As they daydream about their trip to the beach with Mimlemel, their expectations grow higher and higher.
But upon arriving in Auguste, things don't pan out quite like they had imagined.
Mimlemel: Meh. Forget the ocean. I'll just laze around here.
All Three: ...!
Rather than leaping into the sparkling blue, Mimlemel instead lounges around the beach house.
Lyria: Aww... But you wore your new swimsuit and everything! Are you really not going to swim?
Vyrn: What's the deal? You're already here, so you might as well go for a dip.
Mimlemel: I realized something.
Mimlemel gestures over to Stumpeye, Hornby, and Pun-Kin in the corner of the room.
Mimlemel: The ocean's bad news—they're not made for the beach. The salt water would hurt them.
Mimlemel: I'd die walking in this heat. And I'd die without my horn too. The sea's scarier than I thought.
Vyrn: Come to think of it, you were really down that time you lost your horn.
Mimlemel: Almost died then too.
All Three: What have we done!
Stumpeye: She was really lookin' forward to this, and we had to go and knot it all up!
Pun-Kin: This can't be happening! I wanted the princess to have tons of ocean fun!
Hornby: What should we do? Actually, is there anything we can do?
Stumpeye: Well, we sure as sap can't let ourselves be stumped. We gotta use everythin' in our bark to make sure she enjoys herself!
Filled with determination, Stumpeye and the others sneak away and set to work.
Pun-Kin: Um, so what're we looking for?
Stumpeye: There's gotta be somethin' we can do! And anyhow, it's better than sittin' back there sproutin' roots!
Hornby: Something we can do... Hmm...
Hornby: ...!
Stumpeye: What is it?
Hornby: I think something's... calling me...
Intrigued by Hornby's words, they begin searching the area.
Pun-Kin: Whoops!
Stumpeye: What're ya doin', tenderfoot? Slammin' into cabinets ain't helpin'!
Hornby: Wait! I know what was calling out to me. It was... that!
Among the fallen items strewn on the floor is an old wooden box with its lid hanging open, revealing its contents.
Vyrn: What's all the racket?
Oh, looks like a shelf broke.
Inkeeper: Goodness, I'm so sorry! That's what I get for hoarding so many odds and ends.
Mimlemel: ...!
That what I think it is?
Inkeeper: The thing in this box, you mean? Why, it's just an old life guard's bugle. These days they just use flares for emergencies instead.
Mimlemel: Can I play it?
The elderly woman nods, and Mimlemel picks up the bugle and raises it to her lips.
Mimlemel: Toot... Toot...
Mimlemel: Tootle-too!
Mimlemel: Nice.
Inkeeper: Hehe. If you like it all that much, it's yours. No one's played that bugle in ages, so I bet it would be glad to get some use.
Mimlemel: Thanks. Bugleena here can go in the ocean. One less reason to die now.
Lyria: Oh! Then why don't we all go for a swim together?
Mimlemel: But if I walk in this heat, I'll die. Carry me, (Captain).
Bugle in hand, Mimlemel joins (Captain) and company on their way to the beach.
Hornby: That bugle really saved the day.
Stumpeye: You said it. Seems we stumbled on somethin' real special.
Pun-Kin: A life guard's bugle, huh? That's so cool...
Mimlemel: Toot-toot...
Mimlemel floats along the waves, playing a cheerful melody on her new bugle.
Vyrn: Hey, are you gonna swim or what? You've just been driftin' around this whole time...
Mimlemel: Toot-tootie-toot...
Lyria: Hehe. It looks like she's a fan of floating.
Mimlemel: Toot-toot.
As (Captain) and the crew enjoy playing in the water, Mimlemel continues drifting along, fully content.
Mimlemel: Toot. Bloop-bloop.
Vyrn: Huh? Did that old bugle break? It's makin' some really weird sounds...
Mimlemel: Bloop-bloop...
Vyrn: Whoa, hang on! I think she's sinkin'!
All Three: ...!
In a panic, (Captain) and company scramble over to rescue Mimlemel.
Mimlemel: Thanks. I'm always riding Stumpeye, so sometimes I forget how to move.
Lyria: Ahaha... I guess that makes sense. In that case, swimming might be a little dangerous for you.
Vyrn: I'll say. Let's figure out somethin' to do on the beach instead!
Stumpeye: Th-thank goodness (Captain) made it in time.
Hornby: Say, do you think maybe a horn isn't enough? Doesn't she need something to ride on?
Pun-Kin: Yeah, let's look around! I mean, we found that bugle, so I bet we can find a comfy ride out there too!
Stumpeye: Good thinkin'! We oughta start by askin' the critters on the beach!
Meanwhile (Captain) suggests building sand castles on the beach, and Mimlemel perks up with interest.
Mimlemel: Sand castles? You can make buildings out of sand?
Lyria: Yeah! Even big, huge castles! They have a contest here in Auguste every year, and it's always really popular!
Mimlemel: Whoa...
Mimlemel: Tootle-too!
Vyrn: Haha, sounds like she's on board! C'mon—let's get buildin'!
Mimlemel happily throws herself into constructing sand castles with the crew.
Mimlemel: Okay, next.
Lyria: Oh my! You're really fast at this, Mimlemel!
Vyrn: And look at that detail work! We can't let her show us up, (Captain)!
Mimlemel: Heh. You're on.
Mimlemel: Taran-tara!
The sound of Mimlemel's bugle becomes significantly louder, as though expressing her own delight.
Suddenly she notices they have an unexpected guest.
Mimlemel: Huh? Who're you?
The crew turns to see an enormous turtle slowly approaching Mimlemel.
Lyria: Wow! What an incredible turtle! It looks so old and wise...
Vyrn: Looks like it's tappin' its feet to the rhythm. Think it came to hear the music?
Having searched the beach for a new means of transportation for Mimlemel, Stumpeye and company eye the turtle with interest.
Stumpeye: Do ya think that old-timer might be the turtle elder? The one known to oversee these waters?
Hornby: I bet you're right. He does carry himself with a certain dignity.
Pun-Kin: C'mon, let's go talk to him!
Pun-Kin: Hiya, Mr. Turtle! What'd you think of the princess's performance?
Stumpeye: Hold it, tenderfoot! At least introduce yerself first! Yer bein' rude!
Turtleton: Ohoho... Not to worry, young ones. You may call me Turtleton. I was captivated by this little lady's performance and came to hear more.
Turtleton: Ahh, this sound truly takes me back. I used to carry children who drifted too far back to shore on my shell, you see.
Stumpeye: So it is you. Yer that heroic turtle who used to appear out of nowhere whenever the bugle sounded an emergency.
Turtleton: Ohoho. That was a long time ago.
Stumpeye: ...
Stumpeye: I've got a big favor to ask ya.
Stumpeye approaches the turtle and leans forward as though bowing his head.
Stumpeye: We could really use yer help. The three of us don't have what it takes to make sure Mim can enjoy the beach safely.
With desperation in his voice, Stumpeye proceeds to explain the situation.
Turtleton: Hmm... I see. If you were to enter the ocean yourselves, there's no doubt it would take a toll on your life spans.
Turtleton: But I'm afraid supporting her weight would be too much for these old bones of mine, as much as I hate to admit it.
Stumpeye: Wait, she's not heavy at all. In fact, she's as light as a feather. And we really need somebody to carry her!
Stumpeye: You look like you've still got plenty of spunk left in ya. Please, I'm beggin' ya!
Turtleton: She must be very important to you. All the more reason for me to decline.
Turtleton: This old body of mine could stop listening to me at any moment. And I can't let myself be the reason that little lady gets hurt.
Turtleton: Way back when, I was able to lift these flippers clear over my shell, but they've been aching something awful recently...
Turtleton: Hm?
Just then, Turtleton stands for the first time and immediately realizes something has changed.
Turtleton: I can raise my flippers! It's like all my aches and pains have suddenly disappeared...
Turtleton: Could it be?
Eyes widened with surprise, the turtle looks over at Mimlemel.
Mimlemel: Taran-tara!
Turtleton: Is it because of that bugle? But why?
Stumpeye: Heh, it all makes sense now. Her power's affected ya too.
Hornby: You see, she has a mysterious ability. It's been a blessing to us, true... but it also has the potential to invite danger.
Pun-Kin: That's why we're protecting our princess so she doesn't get hurt!
Turtleton: I see. To think a girl so small could possess such an immense power...
Turtleton stares at Mimlemel, his eyes shining with admiration.
Setting his jaw with resolve, the turtle then turns back to the others and nods.
Turtleton: It must have been fate that I encountered that little lady. So she could tell this ancient shell it's too early to give up.
Turtleton: I take back what I said before—I'll do whatever I can to help. A kindess received deserves a kindness returned, after all!
Mimlemel: Huh? What's going on?
Vyrn: It's that turtle from earlier. Looks like it's squattin' down on the ground. Think it's hurt or somethin'?
The crew watches the turtle with confusion as it stares at Mimlemel silenty.
Lyria: Do you think... it wants you to ride it, Mimlemel?
Mimlemel: What?
(Captain) makes eye contact with the turtle and gets the sense it's trying to say something.
Turtleton: ...
  1. Seems tame enough—why not?
  2. It's telling you to hop on.

Choose: Seems tame enough—why not?

Vyrn: Yeah, doesn't look like it's gonna freak when you climb on its shell or anythin'. How 'bout givin' it a try?
Mimlemel: Hmm... In that case, maybe I will.

Choose: It's telling you to hop on.

Mimlemel: Wait. You can understand it?
Mimlemel: Well... Sure, why not.

At (Captain)'s recommendation, Mimlemel carefully climbs onto the turtle's back.
Turtleton: Hold on tight, little lady. I'll give you a grand tour of my home—the wide open sea!
Mimlemel: Whoa...
Mimlemel: Taran-tara!
Lyria: Wow! The turtle's speeding across the water with Mimlemel on its back!
Vyrn: Wonder if she's okay...
Actually, scratch that. Looks like she's havin' the time of her life!
Pun-Kin: Ahaha! I can tell she's having fun from way over here. I'm so glad!
Hornby: Yes. It seems she'll be in good hands this summer.
Stumpeye: We really owe ya, Mr. Elder. Take care of our Mim out there, ya hear?
Stumpeye and company listen to the sound of Mimlemel's bugle in the distance with a sense of accomplishment.
Perhaps aware of their feelings somehow, Mimlemel continues to play, the bright, vibrant tone echoing across the waves.
