My Holy Day
Bumped into the captain and Xing—or rather Seox—while they were cleaning. Hm? Er, I swear I wasn't looking for work! Honest! Anyway, the sight of those two together hit me hard... Agh! Had to remind myself that they're not the same two I knew from the simulations! Still, that didn't stop me from reliving a memory of a Zinkenstill that never came to pass...
Orologia settles in on the Grandcypher for needed R & R.
The wedge strolls through the airship's corridors, reliving memories from past simulations.
Orologia: Nothing's changed...
Seox's Voice: I'll handle the lifting. You just concentrate on sweeping, (Captain).
Orologia: Isn't that...
Upon rounding a corner, Orologia sees (Captain) and Seox in the middle of tidying up a room.
Seox: Er, and you are?
Orologia: Oh, uh, I'm a new pickup, Orologia! Your crew was kind enough to accommodate me.
Seox: Ah, I've heard. The one who's here to rest and recover. Is it all right for you to be moving around?
Orologia: Yeah, my body isn't really the thing with problems. Doing some cleaning there? Mind if I grab a broom and help hunt down dust bunnies?
(Captain) gently rebuffs Orologia's earnest offer, urging the wedge to refrain from working up a sweat.
Seox: Listen to the captain. Sweeping floors and lugging boxes around goes against the vacation spirit.
Orologia: Boo... You think so?
Orologia: It's not fair though! All this slacking off threatens to transform my body into a languid blob of torpidity!
With the request of the Six Dragons still fresh in (Captain)'s mind, the captain refuses to budge on the issue.
Seox: It's not that I don't sympathize with your frustrations toward mandated time off.
Orologia: Thank you! I'm glad at least Xi—eeeox gets it!
Orologia: Ahaha, it's nice to know there's someone else in my corner!
Orologia: (Goodness gracious, that was a close one! I nearly called him Xing!)
Orologia: (Ah, but look at him now... You've grown so much, Xing. No, make that Seox.)
Seox: ...?
Orologia: (Seeing the two of you together like this is going to make me bawl...)
A smile spreads across Orologia's face as the wedge recalls a moment from a simulated world.
Xing: (Captain) and I finished mopping the hallway, Logia.
Orologia: Cool! Thanks, Xing!
Vyrn: Hey, look what I found! It's (Captain)'s old baby clothes!
Xing and (Captain) stare curiously at the little pile of clothing in Vyrn's arms.
Orologia: Aww... I can't believe how tiny (Captain) used to be.
Vyrn: It's crazy! Even I could carry (Captain) around back in the day.
Orologia: Aaah! And these little baby booties! Doesn't this take you back, Vyrn?
Vyrn: Oh, yeah! I remember those! You made them right after (Captain) started walking!
Xing: There's no way (Captain)'s big feet could fit into them now.
Vyrn: I remember holdin' my breath with every wobbly step (Captain) took. Don't know how my heart survived that trial.
Orologia: Couldn't take our eyes off that scamp for a second, lest we had a fugitive baby on our hands.
Choose: Hey! You call this room clean?
A red-faced (Captain) tries to stem the flood of embarrassing childhood stories with an appeal to Orologia's and Vyrn's work ethic.
Xing: Now that you mention it, those two haven't made a dent in their cleaning tasks.
Orologia: S-sorry about that. We accidentally got sidetracked by nostalgia...
Choose: "Accidentally"? Hah, that's rich!
Vyrn: We said we're sorry...
Orologia: Look at our (Captain) acting the responsible one. They grow up so fast.
Orologia remains idle, as if stricken by emotion. (Captain) has to once again prod the wedge into action.
Orologia: Quite right! Rolling up my sleeves now! Thanks again for making the hallway shine, you two!
Vyrn: Let's crush out the rest of the house!
Orologia: ...
Seox: Are you sure you're okay? You look somewhat dazed.
(Captain) and Seox express concern for Orologia, who appears to be flagging.
Orologia: Actually, I think I will go lie down for a bit!
Orologia: I'll stop being a distraction and let you finish tidying up!
Seox: No wonder the Six Dragons ordered a vacation.
The captain nods and watches Orologia disappear down the corridor. (Captain) can't help but sense a cloud of loneliness hanging over Orologia.
My Holy Day: Scene 2
Out on the deck, I found Vyrn entangled with a laundry monster, so I rushed to his aid! After we hung up all the laundry, he said something that triggered my memory of a failed possibility, one in which Vyrn and I were raising baby (Captain). That route doesn't exist in this reality, but I gotta admit that I miss hearing Vyrn call me Logia. Just a little.
Vyrn: Mmph!
Coming out onto the deck, Orologia spots Vyrn grappling with a large linen opponent.
Orologia: You okay there, Vyrn?
Vyrn: Phew! Thanks for diggin' me outta the bedsheets! I was sure I could hang it up on my own, but it kept flappin' back in my face.
Orologia: You're welcome. Here, why don't I anchor this end while you get the other?
Vyrn: That'd be great. Sorry to make you work on your vacay!
Orologia: I could do this in my sleep!
The pair work efficiently to hang the rest of the laundry on the clothesline.
Orologia: Last one!
Vyrn: Whew... Laundry is such a pain. Thanks for the help, Orologia!
Orologia: ...!
Orologia: You're... welcome, Vyrn.
Vyrn: Whew... Laundry is such a pain. Thanks for the help, Logia!
Orologia: You're welcome! But maybe shouldering the entire load is too much for one little dragon.
Orologia: Especially when a new pile of clothes and diapers that needs washing stacks up every day.
Vyrn: Eh, since Pops is busy takin' care of some business, someone else has to watch over (Captain).
Orologia: Yes, but still...
Vyrn: You're already on food duty and other chores, so the least I can do is knock out the laundry to give you more breathing room.
Orologia: Vyrn... Sniff... I'm not worthy of your kindness!
Vyrn: Aw, cut it out. You're makin' me blush!
Vyrn: Yawn... Boy, weather's awesome today. I'm about ready to pass out right here.
Orologia: Doesn't help that (Captain)'s been up crying these past few nights.
Vyrn: Even with the three of us—you, me, and Pops—raisin' a baby is no small feat.
Orologia: You can say that again. Still, (Captain) is just...
Orologia & Vyrn: Sho cute!
Orologia: Hahaha!
Vyrn: Bwahaha! We're such hopeless parents.
Orologia: I dare anyone to hold (Captain) and then tell me they wouldn't do anything for that widdle cutie.
(Captain): Waaah...
Orologia: Uh-oh! I think that's our cue!
Vyrn: Yep, somebody's up. Move out, Logia!
Orologia: On my way!
Orologia: ...
Vyrn: I'm gonna grab a drink from the kitchen. Wanna come with?
Orologia: Sure! I could use some refreshments myself!
Vyrn: Sweet. Let's go!
My Holy Day: Scene 3
When Vyrn and I went to the kitchen, Lyria was there making scones, so I just had to join in! She was more confident and upbeat than when I first met her... No, Logia! Wrong, wrong, wrong! That was a different Lyria! Anyway, the captain and Seox stopped by later, so we enjoyed a fun tea party together. And the best part was no one died!
Lyria: Vyrn! Orologia! What brings you two here?
Vyrn: We got thirsty! How about you?
Lyria: Hehe, I wanted to make snacks for everyone when teatime rolls around, and I figured scones were the way to go.
Vyrn: Ooh, good call!
Orologia: A lone pastry chef for the entire crew? You'll be here all day! You have to let me help!
Lyria: But you're supposed to be having fun during your time off...
Orologia: Do you mean to tell me that a baking party isn't fun?
Vyrn: Got us there...
Lyria: Haha, okay then! I'm counting on you, Orologia!
Orologia: I promise they'll come out perfectly! Big or small, I can do it all!
Lyria and Orologia quickly lay out cookware and ingredients on the countertop.
Lyria: First let's sift the flour and then slice up frozen butter into small blocks!
Orologia: Sounds like a plan!
Lyria: There we go...
Orologia is content to watch quietly as Lyria deftly filters raw flour through a sieve.
Orologia: Your cooking experience shows, Lyria.
Lyria: Heehee, well, I want to enjoy yummy dishes with everyone, so I poured my heart into getting better at making stuff!
Orologia: That's such a wonderful thought.
Orologia: (Your transformation has been amazing, Lyria. The difference is night and day.)
Orologia: Time to get rolling. Empty stomachs need filling.
Lyria: What are you doing, Logia?
Orologia: Hey there, Lyria! I was just about to make scones!
Lyria: Scones?
Orologia: That's right! They're the perfect pastry to pair with a cup of tea!
Lyria: Do you think I'll be able to make them too?
Orologia: Of course you will! In fact, want me to teach you how right now?
Lyria: Yes! I'd like to try!
Orologia: Okay! Come stand beside me.
Lyria: ...
Orologia: Hang on, let me measure out the flour first. There. Now, while I hold this sieve, you pour the flour into it from the top, okay?
Lyria: Like this? Pour... the flour...
Orologia: Perfect! Keep it up!
Lyria: Oh no!
Lyria tips the cup of flour too hard and a puff of white smoke erupts from the bowl.
Lyria: Cough, cough... I'm so sorry, Logia.
Orologia: Ahaha! Who knew I'd be haunted by a ghost! Here, let me wipe the flour off of you.
Lyria: Hehe. You're covered in it too, Logia. We're matching.
The two giggle in delight as they help each other wipe the flour from their clothes.
Orologia: (Right after you were rescued from the empire, you were like a fish out of water—)
Orologia: (No, no, no! Stop it, Logia! That Lyria and this Lyria aren't the same girl!)
Lyria: And that's it! Time to put our hard work into the oven!
Vyrn: Mmm... That buttery smell's startin' to come through! That's always a good sign they'll turn out nice, right?
Orologia: Never doubt the power of a determined Lyria.
Lyria: Hm... It's browning beautifully!
Orologia: You should open a bakery, Lyria! Notice that split forming along the middle of the scone, making it look like a wolf's mouth? That's the mark of quality!
Lyria: Hehe, only because I have such a helpful assistant!
Lyria: I kind of got the feeling this wasn't your first time making pastries, Orologia.
Lyria: You were almost handing me what I needed before I even said anything.
Lyria: It felt as if we'd cooked together before.
Orologia: Er... That, um...
Seox: Are we interrupting?
Vyrn: Hey! Look what the aroma dragged in!
Seox: Actually, (Captain)'s nose was the first to pick up the scent.
Lyria: Haha, perfect timing! Freshly baked scones are ready to come out of the oven.
Orologia: Wait! I still need to make tea!
Vyrn: Nah, grab a seat! Since you and Lyria covered food, we'll cover beverages!
(Captain) nods and gets to brewing with Seox.
Seox: Tea's ready. Careful, it's hot.
Lyria: Yay! Thank you!
Orologia: ...
The small party spends a fun-filled afternoon chatting, sipping tea, and enjoying each other's company.
My Holy Day: Scene 4
Today was amazing! Maybe too amazing, since I couldn't fall asleep! Vyrn and the captain—those kind souls—actually came to my room to check on me. I still don't know if I should be here, what with my propensity for plopping the captain in lethal situations. Yet as I drift off to sleep while serenaded by the captain's lullaby, I start to think how wonderful it would be if we—(Captain)'s crew and I—can surpass any and all threats fate throws at us.
After finishing tea and scones, Orologia retires to the room and climbs into bed.
Orologia: Aah... Even the mattresses here bestow me with the utmost hospitality...
Orologia: So why can't I fall asleep! The harder I try to doze off, the more awake I become!
Orologia: Sigh...
Orologia: Maybe it's the rush from watching (Captain) and the others live their best lives.
Orologia: It fills me with joy. And yet...
Orologia: Gaaah! If only I could stay with them forever!
Orologia: No! Forget it, Logia, you greedy wedge! Just be happy with these scraps you've been given.
Orologia: Yes! Come in!
Vyrn: Aha! So you were still up.
An anxious (Captain) and Vyrn have come to check in on Orologia.
Orologia: I'm fine. No, really. I swear.
Vyrn: I dunno... You didn't have to help me hang up the laundry or get your hands messy makin' scones.
Vyrn: It's like working is in your blood, and takin' breaks doesn't even register.
Choose: Relaxing takes practice too.
Vyrn: Yeah, strange as it sounds.
Orologia: Um, but I am relaxing. I just have my own methods for spending free time.
Vyrn: Hm... Think it's okay to take Orologia's word for it, (Captain)?
After a short pause to consider the options, (Captain) asks if Orologia would like to stay aboard the airship for the entire duration of the vacation.
Orologia: Uh...
Orologia: Wait, what! Surely you're just saying that to be polite?
Vyrn: Nope. If you're cool with stickin' around, then so are we. No one else is usin' this room anyway.
Orologia: Fine, but I should warn you! My vacations last nearly as long as a skydweller's lifespan!
Vyrn: Wow, gives a whole nother meaning to the term "extended vacation," huh... Probably feels short to you though. That's wedges for ya, I guess.
Vyrn: It's your call how long you wanna vacation for. Just be sure to actually, y'know, enjoy it.
Should any complications arise during Orologia's stay, (Captain) promises to help Orologia sort them out.
Orologia: You would go that far for me? Mollycoddle me like that and I'll be spoiled rotten in days!
Vyrn: Ain't that the best remedy a workaholic could ask for?
Vyrn: If bein' doted on bothers you that much, feel free to pamper (Captain) right back!
Orologia: Don't mind if I do...
Orologia: (I'm so... conflicted.)
Orologia: (Is it possible for (Captain) to avoid a disastrous fate despite my close proximity?)
Orologia: (Supposing tragedy did rear its ugly head, if (Captain) can overcome it—or rather if we can overcome it together, then...)
Orologia: ...
Vyrn: You there, Orologia? Must got a lot of stuff on your mind right now. Feelin' sleepy yet?
Choose: How about I sing a lullaby?
Orologia's eyes widen.
Orologia: Really?
Orologia: I mean, who am I to turn down a free lullaby...
Vyrn: Pretty sure that was a joke. Right, (Captain)?
After giving a disclaimer about warbling like a wounded fox, (Captain) tucks Orologia into bed and begins to sing.
Orologia: ...
Orologia: Good night, (Captain).
Orologia: ...
Guided by (Captain)'s song, Orologia drifts off to the world of dreams.
Orologia: Yes, after running repeated permutations and intervening wherever I saw fit, I would walk off into the sunset by my lonesome.
Orologia: In doing so, I thought that would serve as punishment for my sins.
Orologia: But the thing is...
Lyria: Orologia!
Vyrn: What're ya doin' out here?
Seox: We were looking for you.
Orologia: Everyone...
Orologia: Perhaps it was presumptuous of me to reach that conclusion without taking anyone else into account.
Orologia: Yeah! Home—our Grandcypher!
Orologia: And it may also be presumptuous of me to think that my stay here with everyone will last.
Orologia: To pass each day without running a single permutation is to step into a future fraught with unknowns, and that to me is terrifying.
Orologia: But let's suppose for argument's sake that I'm able to conquer that fear with everyone by my side.
Orologia: Now I find myself thinking, "Isn't that a beautiful possibility?"
Orologia: Now—thanks to you, (Captain).
