One with the Deep Blue

Understanding Seox's fear of crowds, (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn lead their dear friend to a far less crowded stretch of sand. As the four while away their afternoon strolling along the beach in search of treasure together, Seox realizes how comforting it is to spend time with others and, even as dusk approaches, he too returns an earnest plea from the heart.

The crew's vacation finally begins.
Seox heads down to the beach with (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn. However...
Seox: ...!
Vyrn: Whoa, wouldja look at that! The beach is packed!
Lyria: It looks a lot livelier than usual this year.
Vyrn: Well, it's better that Auguste's havin' fun instead of the alternative!
Vyrn: Huh? Where'd Seox go?
Seox: Ngh... There are... so many people...
Looking around, Vyrn finds Seox hidden in the shade of a nearby palm tree.
Vyrn: Whoa, buddy... What're you doin' over here?
Seox: Eep! S-stop, don't drag me out there!
Seox: Wait, my mask! At least let me put my mask on first!
Vyrn: Your mask? I thought you said you were a lil' better at keepin' it off these days.
Seox: Not here! There's so many eyes...
Lyria: That's true... It might be a little hard to relax with how busy it is.
Vyrn: Yeah. Seox looks like he's gonna have a breakdown, so let's go find some place quieter.
Avoiding the crowds, the group eventually find a far less populated stretch of sand.
Lyria: Wow! You can really hear the sound of the waves! There's hardly any people—it's so peaceful!
Seox: Yeah, you're right...
Seox: (I don't think I'll freeze up around here. But...)
Seox scans the surroundings and sees signs that forbid swimming—the currents in the immediate area are too swift.
Seox: (We can't even swim here. I don't see any beach huts either.)
Seox: (All things considered, can they even have fun?)
Seox: (They should be enjoying their vacation, but what if I'm making them waste their time to deal with me?)
Lyria: Oh!
Lyria spots something in the sand at the lapping waves and leans down to pick it up.
Lyria: Hey guys, look at this! I found some sea glass!
Vyrn: Whoa, you sure did! And that's a real nice one!
Seox: Are those rare?
Lyria: Not exactly, but the way this one shines aqua is so pretty! Hehe!
Vyrn: Ooh! I found something cool too!
Vyrn holds up an oddly-shaped piece of driftwood and flaunts it to Seox.
Vyrn: This stick looks like a wand! I bet it could shoot magic!
Seox: R-right...
Seox: (They just look like weird rocks and driftwood to me.)
Seox: ...
What do you think, (Captain)?
When Seox turns to speak to (Captain), the captain picks up a shell from the sand, and shows it off to the three.
Lyria: Wow! It's super huge!
Vyrn: Haha! Look at you, grinnin' like you're on top of the world!
Seox: (It really looks like an ordinary seashell to me.)
Seox: (But they all seem like they're honestly having fun.)
  1. So, Seox? Fancy a treasure hunt?

Choose: So, Seox? Fancy a treasure hunt?

Seox: Y-you want me to look too?
The party wanders along the beach, each getting into full swing of their own little treasure hunt.
Seox: ...
How about this shell?
Vyrn: Hmm... It's not bad, but I bet you could find one even bigger!
Seox: I see... All right, I'll keep looking.
Seox: Here's another shell... What do you guys think?
Lyria: Wow! It's super pretty!
Lyria: Oh, but I saw some even prettier ones over there!
Seox: Really? Could you show me?
Seox: Look! How about this one!
Seox holds aloft a massive shell, its nacre shining with a brilliant luster.
Vyrn: Whoa! When'd you find that beaut!
Lyria: Out of everything we've found today, that has to be the biggest one!
(Captain) gives Seox a big round of applause on his find.
Seox: I-I just happened to see it. Nothing to get so excited about.
Lyria: Hehe. You looked like you were having so much fun.
Seox: Me? Having fun?
Vyrn: Yeah! You looked like a real excited kid when you showed us that shell, y'know?
Seox: Wha! Did I really?
Seox: So I was... having fun, huh? But, now that I think about it, a lot of time's passed.
(Captain) nods earnestly in agreement, and explains to Seox that hanging out, wandering the shore, is one way to enjoy the beach.
Seox: Is that right?
Seox: (All I did was follow their lead.)
Seox: (I looked for the same things they looked for, and we spent time together—I never would've guessed that's all it takes to...)
Seox: ...
All right.
Seox: Maybe I was overthinking things...
Lyria: The sun's about to set. Should we go back?
Vyrn: Hmm... I think we have enough time to hunt for treasure a little longer, but...
Seox: Can I say something?
Vyrn: Hm? What's up?
Seox: Well, um... if you guys are okay with it...
Seox: I want to... spend a little more time here with you all.
Lyria: Hehe! In that case...
You're fine with this right, (Captain)?
(Captain) readily agrees and gives the group a bright smile.
And so, the four stroll along the shore until the sun sinks past the horizon.

One with the Deep Blue: Scene 2

A few days into their vacation, Seox spots a group of children playing tag with water guns as he walks the beach alone, and decides to invite the others to try it with him. Faced with a crowd, obtaining the toys proves to be a difficult task—but Seox ultimately succeeds. However, when time comes to invite the others to play, he chokes up... until (Captain)'s gentle, encouraging gaze gives him the presence of mind to extend his invitation.

Several days pass in Auguste as the crew enjoys their vacation.
Seox finds himself wandering the shore alone, reflecting on the day before.
Seox: (Yesterday, we hung out till the sun set again...)
Seox: You want me to dig a tunnel through this sand mountain, right?
Lyria: Yes, please!
Seox: Then I'll put my fist through it in one clean strike! Kieeei!
Vyrn: Yo, Seox! Ya hooked somethin'!
Seox: Wha! It's putting up a real fight—maybe it's a big one?
Seox: (Captain), how do I reel it in? Help!
Seox: (Spending time like that was actually pretty nice.)
Seox: (Maybe I should try asking them to hang out sometimes too...)
As the thought comes to mind, he spots some children playing with water guns a short distance away.
Child: Wah! That's cold!
Child: Okay, it's my turn to be "it"! Better run before I count to ten!
Seox: (They're playing tag using water guns, huh? Some running, some chasing...)
Seox: (This reminds me...)
Vyrn: Now! We've got him!
At Vyrn's signal, (Captain) comes barreling toward Seox from his blind spot, but he quickly dodges.
Seox: You again! You're not getting my mask!
Vyrn: Ah! He's getting away!
Stop, wait up!
Seox: (Vyrn liked to chase me around to try to nab my mask a lot...)
Seox: (Now that I think about it, that wasn't so bad either.)
Seox: (Oh, I see... Even though I don't know anything about games, maybe even I can play tag.)
Seox: (Since we're at the beach, maybe we can do it with water guns like those kids.)
Having gathered his thoughts, Seox approaches the children.
Seox: ...
Sorry, got a minute? Where'd you buy those water guns?
Child: Hm? Oh, these? Just from a store in the mall that was selling random stuff!
Seox: The mall, huh? If I recall, that was on the main street somewhere.
Seox: Thanks.
Seox soon arrives at the mall, but when he sees the countless people there coming and going, he freezes. For a moment, he feels his stomach drop.
Seox: (Urk! Feels like they're all watching, judging...)
Seox: (No... I can deal with it. If I run now, I'll never get anywhere!)
Seox takes a deep breath and, steeling himself, heads for the variety store.
Seox: Um... H-hello... Excuse me...
Shop Clerk: Hi! What can I do for you today?
Seox: D-do you have water guns? I, um, need multiple...
Shop Clerk: Water guns? Oh! You're after these over here, right?
Seox: Yes, um, f-four of them...
Shop Clerk: Of course. I'll get them bagged right up for you, just a moment!
When the clerk heads into the back, Seox's shoulders instantly slump as the tension escapes.
Seox: Whew... I actually pulled off buying them...
Seox: All I have to do now is ask (Captain) and the others to play.
With four water guns obtained, Seox heads to the beach where (Captain), Lyria, and Vyrn are waiting.
Vyrn: Yo! You're here, Seox!
Seox: Yeah. Sorry I took a while.
Lyria: We were just talking about what we want to do next!
Seox: (All right... Now's my chance.)
Seox takes a deep breath, careful to keep it quiet, and begins to speak.
Seox: In that case, well... I have an idea...
Vyrn: What is it?
Seox: I, uh, actually...
Seox: ...
Um... I...
Seox: (Huh? I can't get the words out...)
Lyria: Seox? Are you okay?
Seox: (Why am I so wound up? I can't make them worry over nothing!)
Seox: (Get a grip! I've already gotten this far!)
At that moment, Seox and (Captain)'s eyes meet.
Gaze gently settling on Seox, (Captain) says nothing.
Seeing the captain's quiet patience, Seox's racing heart slowly settles down.
Seox: (Right... There's nothing to panic about.)
Seox: (If no one else, I know these three always listen to what I have to say.)
Seox: ...
Guys... I have an idea.
Seox pulls a water gun out from his satchel and holds it out to (Captain).
Seox: Today... I want to play tag with water guns.
Seox: So, well... Would you guys be up for it?
The group's eyes all widen at Seox's proposal.
Seox: Wh-what?
Vyrn: Nothin', just surprised you're askin' us to hang out. That never happens!
Lyria: Right! But I'm thrilled you did!
Agreeing wholeheartedly with Lyria and Vyrn, (Captain) takes the water gun from Seox.
  1. Bring it on, Seox!

Choose: Bring it on, Seox!

Seox: ...!
Seox: Yeah!

One with the Deep Blue: Scene 3

Seox and (Captain) are absorbed in their game of water gun tag when the captain collapses from heat exhaustion. Remorseful, Seox apologizes as he nurses (Captain) back to health, but is cheered up by the captain. He opens his heart to confess his emotions while they had spent time together at the beach, and promises to invite (Captain) to hang out again.

(Captain) takes aim at Seox and fires shot after shot of water.
Lyria: Now! Take this!
Seox: You missed.
Vyrn: Then how d'ya like this!
Seox: Too slow.
Lyria: You're so good at this, Seox! We just can't hit you at all!
Seox: Heh... It'll take more than that to catch me.
Vyrn: Grrr! You're way too fast!
Vyrn: But boy, am I pooped... Lemme take a lil' break...
Lyria: Me too... I'm feeling a little lightheaded from the heat. Let's go rest in that beach hut over there.
As Seox and (Captain) watch Vyrn and Lyria disappear into the distance, they find themselves alone on the beach.
Seox: Looks like it's just you and me. Up for more?
(Captain) flashes Seox a daredevil grin, points the water pistol at the young man, and mock cocks it.
Seox: That's what I like to see. Bring it on, (Captain)!
(Captain) rapidly pulls the trigger, squirting water several times in succession.
Seox: Your aim always this off?
Seox: Eyes over here!
While Seox dodges shot after shot of water, a small smile comes to his face.
But as he syncs his movements to (Captain)'s onslaught, darting along the shore, soon enough—
Seox: (Crap! There's nowhere to—)
In the next instant, (Captain) scores a solid hit on Seox.
Seox: Waugh!
Rivulets of water running down his face, Seox looks back at (Captain) wide-eyed. After a moment, he runs his fingers through his wet hair, pushing it back, as his lips curl into an easy smile.
Seox: You weren't willing to let me get away, so you backed me into this corner, huh?
Seox: You're too shrewd for me, (Captain). I lost—this round's yours.
Seox: But don't think you'll win again next time. Let's go again.
(Captain) lifts a fist for a bump as if to say, "You got it." But then...
A sudden wave of dizziness hits (Captain), and the captain drops to the sand.
Seox: Ah! (Captain)!
A cool sensation is resting against (Captain)'s forehead when the captain next awakes.
(Captain) scans the surroundings—it's an inn room. A familiar, worried face looks back from beside the bed.
Seox: You're awake now? How are you feeling?
After a quick internal check, (Captain) assures Seox there is nothing to worry about.
Seox: Apparently you blacked out from heat exhaustion. The doc says you should rest a while.
Seox: I asked Vyrn and Lyria to go out and buy some food that might help with the fatigue. Just rest and cool off until they get back.
Seox hands (Captain) a glass bowl filled with a massive heaping of ice cream.
  1. Sorry... and thanks.

Choose: Sorry... and thanks.

Seox: You don't need to apologize. I'm the one who should...
Seox: ...
Sorry. I was so absorbed in the game that I pushed you past your limit.
(Captain)'s hand stops mid-scoop. With a vigorous shake of the head, the captain flatly denies Seox's conclusion.
Smiling bashfully, (Captain) explains—overjoyed at Seox's invitation, the captain had ignored the warning signs, having gotten caught up in excitement.
Seox: You—
Seox: ...
All right.
Seox heaves a quiet sigh, relief washing over him with (Captain)'s confession, and decides to share his own feelings.
Seox: You know, the idea of spending time at the beach was just so foreign to me.
Seox: But, after hanging out with you guys, I realized... I really do look forward to it now.
Seox: I couldn't wait for today. I can't wait for tomorrow. I don't know when things changed, but I know... I can't wait until we next spend time together.
Seox: I doubt I'll ever forget this feeling.
Seox: Our time here at the beach, and the all the fun we had together... I'll always keep these memories close to heart.
Seox: So, if there's ever another chance to hang out like this...
Seox: And, um, if you're okay with it...
Seox: Please, let me reach out to you again.
Seox's gaze falls as he hangs his head when (Captain) replies with a smile.
  1. You'd better ask me to hang out, Seox!

Choose: You'd better ask me to hang out, Seox!

Seox: Yeah, I will. Promise.
The sun's rays filter in through the window, bathing the pair in warm light as they exchange their pledge.
And so, the memory of this unforgettable summer with (Captain) engraves itself indelibly on Seox's heart.
