The Stern Yet Lovely Swordswoman

Setsuna tackles a monster extermination request alongside Mirin and Shion. After completing the task, they reunite with Konoka. A mercenary shows up proposing to be Konoka's bodyguard, only to be swiftly bested by Setsuna.

Some time after the events surrounding the primal beast Zurvan...
Setsuna, who had become a skyfarer alongside her friends, is culling monsters in an overrun forest for a job request.
Setsuna: Shinmei School Secret Technique...
Setsuna: Zanganken!
Monster: ...!
Setsuna's technique, capable of bisecting boulders, fares no worse against monster flesh. It cleaves the foe in twain with ease.
  1. That technique is just so cool.

Choose: That technique is just so cool.

Lyria: Right! It's so strong and flashy, I bet it could beat anything!
Setsuna: Taking care of monsters and their ilk is my specialty. The Shinmei School techniques were developed to defeat them, after all.
Setsuna: I'm just glad that my skills can be of help, as little as it may be.
Vyrn: You've been way more than just a little help! Right, guys?
Mirin: Whoa...
Shion: Hmh...
Setsuna: (Th-they're staring at me so intensely... but surely I didn't do anything to cause offense.)
Setsuna: (From what I've heard, Mirin-san and Shion-san are Satty's friends...)
Setsuna: (Oh! We're all trained in the blade, so maybe they're taking measure of my prowess since I'm their kohai.)
Setsuna: Um, Mirin-san, Shion-san? Can I help you with something?
Shion: Ah! Pardon us, Setsuna. I apologize for our rude staring.
Shion: Ahem... You see, we're training to become true samurai. Time has eroded the old ways in our hometown, so we'd like to learn more of the culture.
Shion: You are the heritor of techniques from a legitimate school and thus our ideal.
Mirin: Gozaru! And that was a legitimate samurai technique you used just now, wasn't it! It was so awesome, I couldn't take my eyes off you!
Setsuna: Oh, thank you... I'm honored.
Setsuna: But I'm sorry to say, I'm no samurai.
Mirin: What? Why do you say that?
Setsuna: I'm just an ordinary student, and a fledgling skyfarer besides. I'd actually like to ask you two to teach me the ropes too, since you're my sempais.
Shion: Oh, I'm afraid I wouldn't be the best teacher...
Mirin: Ahaha, Shion! She asked us so earnestly, it'd be rude not to meet her halfway!
Mirin: Okay, Setsuna! As your skyfaring sempais, we'll teach you everything we know!
Monster's Voice: Graaaah!
Setsuna: More are coming... and they're close.
Setsuna takes a step in the direction of the bestial howl, but is stopped by Mirin and Shion.
Mirin: Don't worry, we've got this! You hang back and watch your sempais in action!
Setsuna: Huh? But the job details said the monsters hunt in packs, and I'm certain there are several headed our way.
Vyrn: It's fine, they've got this. Mirin and Shion might seem a little silly, but they're pretty darn strong!
Mirin: They're here, Shion!
Shion: And soon, they'll be dead. Bonsai Art—
Setsuna: ...
So that's why you stopped me. My concern was unwarranted.
Setsuna: (Mirin-san follows a genuine school of swordsmanship, and Shion-san... Well, technique name aside, she's so strong that monsters aren't a threat.)
Setsuna: (And from what I understand, there are plenty of examples of their ideal samurai in this crew.)
Setsuna: (I'd even say (Captain)-san is one of them.)
Setsuna: (I'll have to prove my worth as well while I'm a member of this crew!)
Vyrn: There something on (Captain)'s face? You're starin' at my buddy real funny.
Setsuna: Please, take me under your wing and teach me what it means to be strong!
Vyrn: Whoa, uh... Where'd that come from?
Mirin: So, you've been a bodyguard for your friend ever since you were kids?
Setsuna: Yes. The chief—er, her father tasked me with the duty, which I was honored to receive.
Shion: ...!
The samurai pledges an oath to her master!
Lyria: Hehe! You've all become such good friends! I'm so happy you're having fun together!
Vyrn: Speaking of fun, how about you girls go hang out around town? We finished reporting in, so we've got some time to chill before we leave.
Shion: An excellent proposal. What do you think, Setsuna?
Setsuna: Oh! I'd be more than happy to come along.
Setsuna: But before we go, let me talk to Ojosama—
???: Heeey! Set-chaaan!
Setsuna: Konoka-ojosama!
Konoka: Hello, everyone. Glad to see you all made it back safe and sound.
Mirin: Gozaru? Is she the girl you were just talking about?
Setsuna: Oh... Yes. Let me introduce you; this is the person I attend—
Konoka: Konoka Konoe! Thank you all for making Set-chan feel at home.
Konoka: And let me guess... You're Mirin-san and Shion-san? Set-chan has such lovely friends!
Shion: Ah, so you must be Setsuna's master, and her cherished companion.
Konoka: Oh, Set-chan! Is that how you really feel about me?
Setsuna: Ack! N-never mind that, Ojosama! More importantly, why are you here? Did you come alone?
Konoka: Mm-hm! You just finished handling a request to defeat monsters, right? I wanted to heal anyone who might've gotten hurt.
Mirin: Oh, now that you mention it, my hand got grazed...
Konoka: We can't leave that wound to fester! I'll fix you up.
Konoka: Practe bigi nar, tui gratia Jupiter gratia sit... Cura!
Mirin: Wow, it's like I was never hurt at all! Are you like, a legendary mage?
Konoka: Ahaha, I'm still a complete novice in training! But I do hope I'll be able to heal all sorts of people one day.
Shion: I see. The noble samurai serves her noble master. That describes you two perfectly.
Mirin: This is great, Shion! The ideal samurai we've always aspired to become really do exist!
Konoka: Oh, my! You're awfully popular, Set-chan! I'm so happy for you.
Setsuna: U-um, I think that's quite enough! I can only handle so much embarrassment...
Malcontent Merc: Yeesh, what's with the racket? Don't you kids have school or something?
Setsuna: State your business, miscreant.
Malcontent Merc: Now hold your horses, missy; no need to be cold. I came with a little warnin' and a proposition, y'see.
Malcontent Merc: I was watchin' you, and it struck me how dangerous it must be for a kid to be walking around all by her lonesome.
Malcontent Merc: You look like a pretty rich miss. Would break my heart if a girl of your fine pedigree got into trouble, seein' as you're without an escort.
Setsuna: Ngh... Well...
Malcontent Merc: So listen here, miss—how's about you hire me to be a bodyguard? The streets ain't safe for children, y'know?
Konoka: Mm, you're not wrong. But Set-chan already fulfills that role.
Konoka: Besides, (Captain)-san is quite the strong and dependable skyfarer. So I'm afraid I have no need for another guard.
Malcontent Merc: You're jokin', girlie... You think I'm weaker than these kids playin' pretend skyfarers?
Vyrn: Hey! Who're you calling pretend skyfarers? We're the real deal!
Malcontent Merc: Hah! How 'bout you prove it, then!
Shion: Draw your blade and we will be forced to respond in kind. Surely there's a more peaceful way we can resolve this situation?
Malcontent Merc: Every merc's got his own scruples as a businessman. I'll show you kids playin' pretend ain't got nothin' on a real fighter!
Setsuna: Shinmei School, Ukigumo: Tsumuji Issen!
Malcontent Merc: Ugh....
Mirin: Gozaru! What was that grappling technique just now?
Lyria: Oh my... he must've flipped around at least three times in midair!
Setsuna: We appreciate the warning.
Setsuna: However, I am Ojosama's bodyguard! If you mean to harm her, I will cut you down where you stand!
Malcontent Merc: Damn it! I'm gonna make you brats pay!
The mercenary swings his sword with full force, but Setsuna easily intercepts it with her own blade.
Setsuna: Shinmei School Secret Technique!
Shion: Well, apparently we're not needed.
Vyrn: She says she's not a real samurai, but she's plenty strong enough to be a real skyfarer!
Konoka: Ahaha! Right?
Konoka: She's my knight in shining armor!
Even as doubt and anxiety occupy her mind, Setsuna quickly finds her place among her new skyfaring friends.
