Training Grounds in the Sky
Since coming to the Sky Realm, the Umamusume have not been able to replicate their training regimens due to a lack of space. When (Captain) and the crew receive a job that involves the upkeep of a certain abandoned plot of land, the girls float the possibility of transforming it into makeshift training grounds to use during their time in the Sky Realm.

Vyrn: I'm a little worried about Suzuka. She's been pacing around like that for awhile now.
Special Week: If I had to guess, she's probably pretty antsy from not being able to run.
A few days have passed since Special Week and her fellow Umamusume joined (Captain) and crew on the Grandcypher.
Special Week watches with a pained smile as Silence Suzuka circles the deck.
Mejiro McQueen: We usually have access to the training grounds and tracks at our academy. It has been a bit difficult to adjust to remaining cooped up as we travel between the islands.
Vyrn: I saw you all stretching with those weight attachments this morning. Pretty amazin' that you wouldn't be totally tuckered out by the time that was all over.
Mejiro McQueen: Yes. That is just a part of our typical warm-up.
Lyria: Really? And you do that kind of training every day? That's really impressive!
Mejiro McQueen: It is absolutely essential for anyone serious about winning a race.
Special Week: It's such an ingrained part of our lifestyles that suddenly being unable to train in the same capacity is making us a bit restless.
Special Week: And I'm afraid that if we were to try running here on the deck, we would end up damaging the paneling...
Vyrn: Ah yeah, I did notice your footprints on land were quite larger than what I typically see.
Lyria: I wonder if we could find a good place for you all to run...
Tokai Teio: Hey, what's up? What're you all talking about?
Lyria: Oh, hello, Teio! Actually...
Tokai Teio also shares in the unease of being unable to freely train and run.
Tokai Teio: It's a shame, but there's not much we can do. Our school was established and constructed with ample training space in mind.
Lyria: I would be worried about suggesting you train on any mountain paths or in the fields as well, due to the risk of potential monster attacks...
Mejiro McQueen: Yes. We cannot expect every world to exist at the exact same standards as our own, I suppose.
(Captain) overhears Vyrn, Lyria, and the girls discussing the matter of training space.
It is hard to imagine the ideal environment they have access to back in their own world.
Choose: It'd be great if we could find a good place.
Mejiro McQueen: Indeed! I appreciate your concern, Captain.
Tokai Teio: In that case, why don't we put our noggins together and think of some good training routines to do while onboard the airship?
Tokai Teio: Spe, remember that one squat routine we did while holding those heavy boxes? Add that to the list!
Special Week: Yeah, good idea!
Special Week and Tokai Teio scurry away smiling.
Mejiro McQueen: Surely we can come up with plenty of other good ideas. We will be fine!
Silence Suzuka: ...
Silence Suzuka is seemingly unable to share in the same enthusiasm as her fellow Umamusume. She continues to pace about, deep in thought.
(Captain) observes the girl's anxiety and wonders if there is anything that can be done.
A few days later, (Captain) receives a certain request from the Knickknack Shack.
The client is requesting the upkeep of a certain plot of wilderness. The crew departs for the area marked on the map.
Special Week: Whoa! This place is so big and wide-open! It reminds me of my hometown back in our world!
Silence Suzuka: I'm sure that running here would feel wonderful!
Mejiro McQueen: I can appreciate how you both feel, but please remember why we've come here. We can't very well go tearing through the place.
Gold Ship: Oh, how about this, then? McQueen! Go grab the shovels! We'll just dig a series of underground tunnels to run in! Bet it'll surprise the subterranean dwellers!
Mejiro McQueen: Will you please stop talking nonsense? We've come here for a very specific purpose.
Vyrn: Hehe, it's good to see those two getting along just as well as ever.
Tokai Teio: So big... There are busted fences all over the place. Was this area used for something else before?
Lyria: Apparently this placed served as a farm many years ago. It's been abandoned.
Vyrn: According to the client, they were about to be penalized with a heavy tax over the land's disuse.
Vyrn: If they can maintain the land and perhaps use it for something, it looks like they can avoid having to pay that fee.
Tokai Teio: Oh? I guess there are some tough parts of being a landowner...
Tokai Teio: Will they use it as a farm again?
Lyria: Well, they haven't exactly decided on that yet.
Vyrn: For now, they just want it declassified as an abandoned piece of wilderness.
Vyrn: Maybe you all can help come up with some ideas for how to use this place too!
Tokai Teio: Oh, sure!
Choose: Thank you!
Tokai Teio: Yeah, no problem!
Tokai Teio: Hmm... I mean, this plot is so big...
Tokai Teio begins a personal investigation on the soil type and quality.
Tokai Teio: Question, Captain!
Tokai Teio: What if us five were to make use of this land after we finish tidying it up?
Lyria: That should be okay! The client was saying something about maybe turning it into a park.
Tokai Teio: Got it. Well, in that case...
Tokai Teio: I wonder if we could make this place into training grounds?
Silence Suzuka: Training grounds?
Tokai Teio: Yeah, and think about this! We could use all the fencing to keep any monsters that show up at bay.
Tokai Teio: We'd be able to train and run in peace!
Special Week: That would be amazing! This is the same kind of dirt that we would practice running on back home, too!
Tokai Teio: We should go all-out and make a track, too! We'll have to measure the distance and make sure we have enough fencing to cover it.
Mejiro McQueen: You've given this quite a lot of thought. Would we really be able to pull it off?
Gold Ship: Sounds like fun! This is what they call "DIY," yeah? I'm ready to put my years of house of cards construction to good use!
Mejiro McQueen: I don't want you to be in charge of any structures.
Tokai Teio: It doesn't have to be anything super fancy. Just as long as we can have a proper track to run on, you know?
Mejiro McQueen: Yes, I do think it's important to have a track of the suitable surface and distance.
Tokai Teio: So whaddya think, Captain?
Tokai Teio: Does this all sound like something we could do?
Choose: I'll discuss it with the client.
Tokai Teio: Thanks, Captain!
Special Week: Isn't this great, Suzuka?
Silence Suzuka: It is. The soil here is great and the air is fresh. I can't wait for the day we can properly run again!
Mejiro McQueen: While we're waiting on the necessary permissions, we may as well start the cleanup process. Let's do something about all this broken fencing and the overgrowth.
The girls nod to each other and begin their work.
Training Grounds in the Sky: Scene 2
The crew gains the permission of the landowner to construct the training grounds. Everyone pitches in to complete the construction with little issue. As the girls are about to run on their new track for the first time, they notice that Gold Ship has gone missing. They find her mining for gold alone in a cave, where she ends up disturbing a fearsome stone monster. It chases them out of the cave and beyond the training grounds.
(Captain) is able to convince the client to allow the Umamusume to transform the abandoned farmland into training grounds.
Tokai Teio takes the lead on the planning and produces a project blueprint with the other girls.
The crew assists the girls with debris removal and construction.
Lyria: I've brought the new rope, Chief! Where should I put it?
Tokai Teio: Great job, Assistant Lyria! Go ahead and put the rope in that crate over there!
Special Week: Chief, Chief! Work on the west side is complete! Where should we start next?
Tokai Teio: Great job! Move on to the north side!
Special Week: Oh, Suzu—I mean... the Surveyor of Turf's location! Roger!
Mejiro McQueen: Your titling scheme seems to be producing results, um, "Chief Engineer of Training Grounds Construction," was it?
Tokai Teio: Yes! It allows us to focus and come together as a cohesive force!
Lyria: I can feel it! It somehow keeps me motivated!
Mejiro McQueen: Perhaps it is a bit excessive? We're essentially hired help at this point, not a contracting company...
Tokai Teio: The Director of Patrol said it was fine, so why not? Are you ready for your next task, Site Foreman?
Mejiro McQueen: The Director of Patrol... is referring to (Captain), right? Oh, fine.
Mejiro McQueen: Rather than a foreman, couldn't I receive a position of... broader authority?
Gold Ship: Ahh! There it is! I can see your competitive side coming out! You're just upset that Teio holds a higher title than you, aren't you?
Mejiro McQueen: N-no, not at all! It's just that I'm not even sure what I should be doing now in my current role...
Gold Ship: Don't worry, the Director of Expedition here will find a great new task for you real quick like. Wait here!
Mejiro McQueen: No, I can manage just fine without your meddling!
Tokai Teio: Ehehe... Anyways, McQueen. Anything to report on?
Mejiro McQueen: (Captain) and some of the other crew members are taking care of lumber procurement.
Mejiro McQueen: Also, Vyrn asked me to pass this along to you.
Mejiro McQueen hands Tokai Teio a small pouch.
Tokai Teio: Oh, these are for the Director of Greenery and Crops!
Special Week: Work on the north side is complete! And did I hear my title just now?
Tokai Teio: Good timing, Director of Greenery and Crops! Here are the seeds you requested. Go ahead and start planting while we wait for the lumber delivery.
Special Week: Wow, this is a nice variety!
Silence Suzuka: That's great, Spe! Think of all the carrots these will yield!
Special Week: Yeah! Though, I do owe the crew a lot of what these will produce...
Vyrn: Hmm? I coulda sworn we had some extra ingredients stored over here...
Special Week: Um, about that... I have to come clean! I was reeeally hungry and I ate a bit too much...
Vyrn: You ate this much, and all by yourself?
Special Week: I'm so sorry! I promise it won't happen again!
Vyrn: I mean, I guess it's fine if you were really that hungry. We received kind of a lot from our last job, too...
Vyrn: And now that I think about it, you have shown us just how much you can eat.
Special Week: Tee hee...
Lyria: You don't have to worry about that! I eat quite a lot too, you know.
Special Week: Even aside from all that, we owe your crew so much for the help you've given us. I'd like to repay you somehow...
Silence Suzuka: Spe used to help her mom with farm work back in our own world. I'm sure that anything she grows for you will be quite delicious!
Special Week: That's right! I'm going to go plant a really huge field!
Tokai Teio: It really is great that we've got so much space to work with here.
Mejiro McQueen: I share the opinion that if we were going to exert all of this effort, we might as well make the most of what is at our disposal and have some fun while we're at it...
Mejiro McQueen pauses as her gaze shifts toward the grounds entryway.
Vyrn: Um... What exactly is she doing over there?
Vyrn looks toward the sky above. Gold Ship can be seen fashioning a kind of scaffold.
Gold Ship: Huh? What does it look like I'm doing? Building a watchtower, of course!
Vyrn: A watchtower? For what?
Gold Ship: Just what do you think you need for an expedition, Lizard Boy?
Vyrn: What did you call—
Rations, a lantern... Things like that?
Rations, a lantern... Things like that?
Gold Ship: What are you talking about? You need an ultra fluffy pillow for sleeping, of course!
Vyrn: But that doesn't have anything to do with a watchtower!
Mejiro McQueen: Everyone seems to have their own addition for the facility.
Tokai Teio: I don't even know when or how some of these things even ended up on the blueprint...
Tokai Teio: Oh well, it shouldn't matter! Just as long as we have our room to train!
Mejiro McQueen: Yes, indeed.
Mejiro McQueen: Let's make the most of our time and help out with the planting.
Special Week: Thanks! Over here!
The group begins to plant the seeds in the location chosen by Special Week.
Time passes as the overall construction work proceeds smoothly.
Special Week: W-we did it...
The Four: All finished!
Lyria: The training grounds are complete! Hooray!
Tokai Teio: We've even finished ahead of schedule, thanks to all of your hard work!
Special Week: The construction work itself even proved to be a good workout. And what's more important, it was actually a ton of fun!
Vyrn: I'm impressed you can link almost anything to training. I can tell you're really serious about your racing.
Silence Suzuka: Heehee. Speaking of, why don't we go for a little run right now?
Special Week: Great idea!
Special Week: But wait, aren't we missing someone?
Mejiro McQueen: Yes, Gold Ship. Goodness, just where could she have gotten off to?
Silence Suzuka: Last time we saw her, she was up in that watchtower...
Gold Ship: Beep, beep. Signal: detected. Coordinates: G-Three. Eastern forest.
Gold Ship: Routing: complete. Ready to start navigation. Awaiting direction from Director of Expedition.
Silence Suzuka: ...?
Silence Suzuka: After that, she jumped down and took off somewhere...
Lyria: Did she go to that forest all by herself?
Vyrn: Wait, that's bad. She could run into a bunch of monsters. We need to go find her, and quick!
Tokai Teio: What's that sound? It's kind of metallic, like swords clashing or something.
Lyria: You're right... I'm worried about Gold Ship!
Seeking out the strange sound, the crew arrives at a cave deep in the forest.
???: Hwah! Hyah!
Walking through the darkness, the crew happen upon a woman single-mindedly chipping away at the walls with a pickaxe.
Special Week: Golshi, you're okay! But uh... what are you doing?
Gold Ship: Hehehe! So you all were attracted by the smell of precious metals too!
Mejiro McQueen: No, we've come down here looking for you. Come on, we're going back to the training grounds.
Gold Ship: Nope, don't wanna go. In fact, I can't go.
Lyria: Hm? Wait, wh-what's wrong?
Gold Ship: It was a dark and stormy day. My men and I were starving, nary a single ration left to go around. We devised a plan to raid the ants' secret stash.
Gold Ship: Time went on, and I started to reflect on the example I would be setting as the boss. However! We crossed both seas most wide and mountains most high to reach this place.
Gold Ship: It is time! A new age, the Gold Rush, is upon us! For dreams. For romance! I shall empty this cavern of all of its riches!
Lyria: The ants'... secret stash? Boss? Riches?
Mejiro McQueen: Lyria, you mustn't encourage her.
Tokai Teio: Come on, let's get going. What'll we do if a monster decides to attack?
Gold Ship: No, the Golshi Radar has picked up on the gold traces. They're just beyond this layer...
???: ...
Gold Ship: Huh? Did the stone here just move?
The stone that Gold Ship had been striking at begins to quake. Two glowing spots appear on the stone's surface.
???: Grr...
Vyrn: Isn't that a monster right there?
Choose: Run!
The Five: Hwa!
Stone Monster: Groooar!
Lyria: Eek!
Choose: Lyria!
The Umamusume dash away with a scream. Shielding Lyria from danger, (Captain) tumbles to the ground with her.
Lyria: Thank you, (Captain). What about the others?
Vyrn: That monster's chasing them right out of the cave. We need to catch up to them!
Choose: Got it!
Training Grounds in the Sky: Scene 3
The Umamusume are able to outsmart the monster and subdue it in the process. After, they discover a natural hot spring near the newly completed training grounds and make quick use of it that evening, sharing a moment of reflection about their time in the Sky Realm.
Special Week and the other Umamusume flee the cave and continue their dash until they are able to exit the forest. The monster is in pursuit, and they run beyond the training grounds.
Stone Monster: Groooar!
Tokai Teio: Eeeek! It's still after us!
Mejiro McQueen: How is that lump of rocks managing to keep up with us!
Special Week: If only I knew it would come to this, I would've eaten more carrots for lunch!
Mejiro McQueen: No, don't say things like that!
Silence Suzuka: (What should we do? We need to shake it off somehow...)
Silence Suzuka: Hm?
Running at the head of the group, Silence Suzuka notices something about the ground beneath her.
Silence Suzuka: (It's incredibly easy to run on this soil!)
Silence Suzuka: Hey, when it comes time to replace the turf at the training grounds, don't you think we should use the soil from around this area?
Tokai Teio: I relieve you of your duties as Surveyor of Turf!
Stone Monster: Groooar!
The Five: Eyaaah!
Gold Ship: Desperate times call for desperate measures!
Gold Ship brings up the rear of the group. She stops in her tracks and fixes her gaze on the stone monster.
Gold Ship: Secret technique! Golshi Hyper Megaton!
Mejiro McQueen: This is no time for games!
The monster closes in with a violent swing. Mejiro McQueen grabs Gold Ship's arm and dashes away right in the nick of time.
Gold Ship: Nice, McQueen! People are going to go back and watch that in slow motion!
Mejiro McQueen: No one is watching us!
Stone Monster: Groooar...
Tokai Teio: Come on, you two. Keep up!
The girls change direction in an effort to throw the beast off. They continue to run with all of their might.
Special Week: L-look at that hill! There's a small opening beneath those rocks!
Tokai Teio: We might just be able to fit! It won't be following through there!
The Five: Haaa!
It is the final stretch; the finish line is in sight. The girls run through the narrow space beneath the rocks.
Stone Monster: Groar!
The monster has no time to react.
Stone Monster: Goh...
After direct impact with the immovable rock formation, the monster's eyes roll back into its head and and it collapses to the ground in a cloud of dust.
Special Week: Pant... It worked...
Tokai Teio: Pant... I definitely don't want to run in that kind of race ever again...
Mejiro McQueen: I feel kind of bad for it. I suppose it was just acting out of instinct...
Silence Suzuka: Hm? What's that sound?
The sound of gushing water can be heard. The stone floor on which the girls stand begins to shake violently.
Gold Ship: That sounds real bad. Let's get outta here!
Lyria: Pant, pant... Oh good, you're safe!
Special Week: Lyria, (Captain)! Yeah, we're all ri—
Choose: Watch out! Behind you!
Special Week: Huh?
The girls turn around to see a large boulder hurtling down toward them.
The Five: Aaah!
The girls scatter in every direction as the boulder approaches. It strikes the very spot where they had been standing.
A column of water bursts forth from the fissure formed by the boulder's strike—droplets rain back down on the crew.
Tokai Teio: Yeowch! Hot!
Tokai Teio: Hm? Sniff, sniff... This smell...
Mejiro McQueen: It smells like... a hot spring?
The crew approaches the impact site to investigate. Steam rises from a pool of clear water.
The stone monster's impact appears to have been the catalyst for thermal activity.
Special Week: Oh my gosh! We've got a hot spring so close to the training grounds!
Silence Suzuka: This will be perfect for relaxing after a long session!
Tokai Teio: A natural hot spring right in our backyard! The temperature is perfect too. This is so awesome!
Mejiro McQueen: It would seem we've not struck gold, but rather water.
Gold Ship: Yeah, you're welcome!
With the monster threat eliminated, the crew enjoys a very special reward.
Later that night...
Silence Suzuka: Ah!
Silence Suzuka emerges from her tent near the training grounds. She gazes at the night sky, and is greeted by a seemingly infinite expanse of twinkling stars.
Silence Suzuka: (I could get used to a night sky that isn't marred by city lights.)
Silence Suzuka: (I imagine the scenery would be wonderful if I were to run right now...)
Special Week: Suzuka? Is something on your mind?
Silence Suzuka: Not particularly. I'm just enjoying the evening breeze. Look up at the stars, Spe. They're so pretty!
Special Week: Ah, you're right! It's as if I were back in Hokkaido!
Silence Suzuka: Hehe, I suppose the twinkling of the night sky doesn't change, no matter where you go.
The two girls stare into the sky for a moment longer, their hair fluttering gently in the breeze.
Special Week: You know, Suzuka... I was worried sick for the longest time.
Silence Suzuka: Oh?
Special Week: To be suddenly transported to a whole new world, not knowing when or even if we could possibly get home... I have races I absolutely must win...
Special Week: But being with all of you really helps to put my mind at ease, and I would be lying if I said that I wasn't having a ton of fun.
Special Week: I woke up one day to find that my worries and anxieties had disappeared.
Silence Suzuka: I understand the feeling. And now we even have a place where we can continue to run and train.
Special Week: Yep!
The girls cherish a moment of happiness as they gaze quietly at the stars.
Gold Ship: Yo! You two whisperin' secrets to each other? Let me in on it!
Silence Suzuka: Oh, no... No secrets. We were just talking about how much fun it's been here in the Sky Realm.
Tokai Teio: It really has been! I think the best part so far has been building our own training grounds!
Mejiro McQueen: Just setting up the fencing was such a laborious process. I do think it made for good experience for us, however.
Gold Ship: The friendships we've forged here cross the species barrier. See?
Stone Monster: Goo!
Mejiro McQueen: Eek! Why are you here too?
Gold Ship: I brought it along! And now I entrust it to you, Director of Monsters McQueen.
Special Week: Huh? Director of Monsters?
Gold Ship: Oh, that's right. Since you guys took your dips ahead of us, you wouldn't know.
Gold Ship: Me 'n McQueen were soaking in the hot springs when it came over with a face that was all like "I wanna bath too!"
Gold Ship: We obliged and even washed its back after that. We shook and made up, and now we're inseparable cosmic friends!
Mejiro McQueen: I never said anything about being its friend, and I don't care who washed whose back!
Stone Monster: Goo!
The stone monster nuzzles up against Mejiro McQueen in an affectionate manner.
Mejiro McQueen: I told you to stop doing that! It hurts!
Silence Suzuka: It really seems to like you.
Gold Ship: Right! That's our Director of Monsters for ya!
Mejiro McQueen: Sigh... Why do I always seem to attract all manners of strangeness?
Tokai Teio: You're in good hands, little one. McQueen is so nice!
The monster spends a few more moments with its newfound best friend before skipping off happily back to its cave.
Tokai Teio: Sigh... It's all kind of hard to believe.
Tokai Teio peers with a smile over the newly constructed training grounds bathed in the moonlight.
Tokai Teio: It all fell into place so suddenly and it was a ton of work, but we really managed to pull it off without a hitch!
Special Week: Yeah, and it was all thanks to your directional skills!
Silence Suzuka: Thank you, Chief Engineer of Training Grounds Construction. I feel a little bad for leaving most of the work up to you.
Tokai Teio: Nah, it was no sweat off my back. Thanks for all your great ideas and for making it all so easy to manage! Plus, we had Site Foreman McQueen on our side.
Mejiro McQueen: Don't you mean "Director of Monsters" McQueen?
Mejiro McQueen: Still, your organization was indispensable to our success. Thank you, Teio.
Gold Ship: Yeah! You have the thanks of the Director of Expedition as well.
Tokai Teio: Hey, that tickles!
Tokai Teio: So much has happened since we came here, and I'm so happy to have experienced it all with you four.
The Four: Yeah!
Yes!
Gold Ship: All right, now seems as good a time as ever for a run!
The joyous chatter of the Umamusume echoes across the grounds as they begin to jog around the track.
Lyria: Hehe, there they go again!
Vyrn: They really do love it! Let's keep an eye out for any potential monster threats until they're finished, (Captain)!
(Captain) nods at Vyrn and turns toward the girls with a smile.
