Together in Song - Opening

(Captain) and the crew attend a performance of the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra. While there, Elta and Selfira are invited to appear in a disaster relief concert being held in a place called Perfetto Island. Meanwhile on Perfetto Island, a certain lone traveler's heart aches for the islanders as he helps with the restoration efforts.

Narita: ...
The Sky Philharmonic Orchestra—the musical ensemble with the greatest legacy in all the skies.
As the audience applauds, the conductor, Narita, smiles quietly and takes a deep bow before exiting the stage.
  1. Bravo!

Choose: Bravo!
Elta: Wow... That was so intense I'm at a complete loss for words.
Selfira: Yeah, it was an incredible performance. The whole thing felt like a dream.
Vyrn: Seriously. How's it already so late? Feels like the concert just started.
Following the performance, the orchestra members leave the stage one by one.
The thunderous applause finally dies down, and the audience exits the hall, chatting excitedly about the concert.
Lyria: Hehe. My hands hurt from all that clapping.
Selfira: I still can't believe you have friends in the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra, (Captain). Is there anyone in the skies you don't know?
Vyrn: We just happened to run into 'em while we were traveling. Right, (Captain)?
It all began with a concert tour.
(Captain) and the crew had accepted a request to provide security for the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra.
During rehearsal, the music director, Nobiyo, challenged the musicians to allow their music to touch the audience's hearts in a more powerful way.
Nobiyo: I'm going to ask you all to try to remember the emotions that led you on to the path of a musician.
Nobiyo: I want you all to seize the emotions that exist in each and every one of you and create the most magnificent music you possibly can.
The musicians decided to travel in order to rediscover what first led them to pursue music, as well as the emotions they felt at that time.
Their hometown, a fated meeting place—a different destination popped into each member's mind.
Eager to help make the performance a success, (Captain) and the crew agreed to assist them on their journeys.
Elta: I bet Nobiyo sent the tickets to today's performance as a thank-you.
No version of Elta in crew

Elta is a talented minstrel.
He once traveled alone, bringing joy to others with his music, but he had trouble dealing with the monsters he encountered on his way.
He is currently traveling together with the crew at (Captain)'s invitation.
Selfira: Really? Thanks for inviting us to come along, (Captain).
No version of Selfira in crew

Selfira is a musician who plays an instrument she inherited from her great-grandmother, one of the legendary skyfaring minstrels.
In order to protect her home island from the threat of the primal beast Midgardsormr, she and Elta sang a song composed to lull the beast to sleep.
With the crew's help, she succeeded at causing Midgardsormr to fall into a deep slumber.
Selfira then boarded the Grandcypher, setting out from her home island for the first time in order to hone her skills as a musician.
Vyrn: Don't mention it! We knew it'd be an awesome concert, so we didn't want you two to miss out.
Lyria: We were thinking of going backstage to say hello to the orchestra members. Do you two want to come along?
Elta: Can we? Oh boy... This is exciting.
Heading backstage into the staff-only area, (Captain) knocks on the door to the orchestra's dressing room.
Narita: (Captain)! Everyone! It's a pleasure to see you all.
Lyria: It's nice to see you too. We really enjoyed the concert!
Narita: I'm happy to hear it!
Narita: Wait here for a moment. I'll go get Nobiyo and the section leaders.
???: ...
Narita returns with the section leaders in tow.
Novei, the violinist and the concertmaster of the orchestra.
Augusta, the cellist.
Robertina, the tuba player.
Pamela, the flutist.
And Cecile, the trumpet player.
Novei: Thank you very much for coming to our performance today, (Captain).
Augusta: It's been forever since we saw you last! How've you been?
Robertina: I'm so happy you came. Here, I'll give you some snacks to share with everyone.
Pamela: I spotted you all from the stage. I was glad to see you enjoying yourselves.
Cecile: I was watching you the whole time too. Seeing you gave me the boost I needed to put on a great performance.
The musicians greet the crew happily.
Elta: The orchestra members sure draw inspiration from (Captain) and the crew, don't they?
Selfira: I want to tell them my thoughts on the concert, but I'm too nervous...
Nobiyo: Well, look who we have here. You went to all the trouble of coming backstage to visit us?
Lyria: Hello, Nobiyo. That was a wonderful concert!
Narita: Hm?
Noticing a small shadow just visible around the corner, Narita walks over to investigate.
Narita: Niyon! Fancy seeing you here—I know you're not a fan of large crowds.
Niyon is a crew member

Niyon: ...
Vyrn: Oh yeah, I forgot you didn't come with us, Harp Girl. Guess you were busy with other stuff, eh?
Niyon: I decided to go to the concert since (Captain) was going. So here I am.
Niyon: Heheh... You were hiding in the back the whole time, so I'm happy to finally see your face, (Captain).
Niyon not in crew

Niyon: I just felt like it. I was interested to see the orchestra perform, is all.
Nobiyo: Oh? Are you Niyon of the Eternals?
Niyon: Ah... Yes. Um, it's nice to meet you, Nobiyo.
Elta: Th-the Eternals?
Elta: The living legends? Those Eternals?
Niyon not in crew

Selfira: Um... Who are the Eternals?
Elta: The Eternals are an incredibly strong crew made up of ten members. They're as powerful as the Seven Luminary Knights.
Elta: I expected them to be a lot scarier though...
Nobiyo: I've heard a lot about you. You and Narita lived near each other when you were younger, right?
Vyrn: Really? I didn't know that!
Niyon: Yeah. We could always hear each other playing music at home.
Pamela: You know, I don't think I've ever seen Narita play an instrument.
Nobiyo: Narita is a very talented musician. I'm sure that's part of the reason he has such good sense as a conductor.
Augusta: Wow... I'd like to hear you play sometime, Narita!
Narita: Well, it's nothing to write home about.
Cecile glances at a clock on the wall.
Cecile: Hey, do we really have time to be standing around talking like this?
Robertina: Now that you mention it, we have to leave early tonight, don't we? We'd better hurry and pack up.
Lyria: Do you have something to do after this?
Novei: We're scheduled to perform in a relief concert being held at a place called Perfetto Island.
Vyrn: A relief concert? Did something bad happen there?
Novei: They were hit by a natural disaster. A storm caused a huge landslide.
Elta: That's terrible! I hope your performance will be able to lift their spirits...
Nobiyo: By the way, do you and that red-haired young lady play instruments?
Elta: Well, yes we do...
Nobiyo: Would you be willing to help us out?
Narita: The request came so suddenly that we're short on musicians. We'd really appreciate it if you could come along.
Elta: I'd be happy to!
Selfira: Sure, if you think I can help...
Niyon: (Perfetto... That's in the same direction as that melody...)
While Elta and the others are being filled in on the details of the relief concert, Niyon stares off in thought, a serious look in her eyes.
Perfetto Island, the island of the arts. In a town still reeling from the effects of the landslide, the islanders grimly survey the damage.
Musician: Sigh... This house is done for.
Artist's Son: Mother... Sob...
Artist: I couldn't save your mother. I'm so sorry...
???: ...
An eccentric young man reaches down to pick up a fragment of a broken statue, his expression downcast.
???: (And it was such a beautiful town too...)
Instrument Crafter: Say, traveler. Think you could help us clear out this rubble?
???: Of course!
???: (Brooding won't fix anything. I need to focus on doing what I can to help.)
The young man helps the instrument crafter move the debris.
He does so eagerly, desperately—as though propelled by something deep within himself.

Together in Song - Chapter 1: The Relief Concert - Episode 1

The next day (Captain) and the crew land on Perfetto Island, where they witness the aftermath of the landslide firsthand. The relief concert opens with a performance by the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra, much to the delight of the art-loving islanders.

The following day (Captain)'s crew arrives on Perfetto Island, where the relief concert is to be held.
Lyria: I heard that half the island is buried in black dirt and soil. That's just horrible...
Vyrn: Yeah. At least the port made it through okay, or we would've had a rough time landing.
Elta: The streets are littered with soil too, so we'll have to get to the town on foot.
Selfira: There might be areas that are still unstable. Make sure to keep an eye out.
Although restoration efforts are proceeding steadily, the after-effects of the disaster can still be clearly seen throughout the island.
As the concert approaches, the eyes of the islanders reflect the countless hardships they have faced.
(Captain) bids farewell to Elta and Selfira and heads off to watch the concert from a seat at the back of the audience.
A large crowd waits in front of an outdoor stage in the town square, eager for the show to begin.
Musician: Oh! It's starting!
After the orchestra has finished tuning, Narita appears on stage to tumultuous applause.
When he reaches the center of the stage, he takes a graceful bow and raises his baton, turning his attention to the orchestra.
Novei: ...
The musicians focus on Narita, waiting for the moment he waves his baton.
A light spiccato done in unison stirs up excitement, as though setting the stage for a story.
Pamela: ...
A clear, peaceful melody speaks directly to the audience, luring them into the world of the music.
Robertina: ...
A pounding bass line carves out a rhythm like a heartbeat, bringing everything together with a vigor reminiscent of the power of life itself.
Cecile: ...
Carefree high notes leap and dance, highlighting the music with joyful accompaniment.
Augusta: ...
A cello's tenor staccatos give rise to a thrilling sense of speed, drawing the audience in.
Instrument Crafter: So this is what the most famous orchestra in the skies sounds like... Wow.
Artist's Son: Orchestras are really cool! I want to learn to play an instrument too!
Lyria: Hehe. It sounds like everyone's enjoying themselves!
(Captain) and the crew smile upon seeing the sparkling eyes of the islanders.
As the performance continues, the story interwoven by the music moves toward its climax.
Cymbals and timpani ring out, the thrilling tremolo signaling the arrival of the grand finale.
Narita's movements reach a crescendo. His intensity permeates throughout the entire hall, refusing to give the audience members a chance to catch their breath.
The Five: ...!
As soon as the music fades, the concert hall breaks into roaring applause.
Instrument Crafter: Bravo! That was wonderful!
Artist's Son: Bravo! Bravo!
Narita: All right!
Narita puffs out his chest proudly as he hears the cheers filling the hall.
He turns to wave off stage, and Nobiyo calmly walks out to join him.
Nobiyo: Thank you, thank you.
Nobiyo: What a powerful performance. I think I was even more blown away than you were.
Nobiyo smiles kindly as he looks out across the faces of the islanders.
Nobiyo: I know you've all been through a lot, but we've asked some spectacular musicians to come perform for you today.
Nobiyo: I hope you'll enjoy the concert.
Warm applause fills the hall in response to Nobiyo's message.
Nobiyo raises his hand in thanks and exits the stage. The other musicians follow after him, instruments in hand.
Instrument Crafter: Haha. We got to hear something really special today.
Artist's Son: Yeah! I can't wait for the next act!
The excitement in the air is almost palpable as the islanders wait for the next performance to begin.

Together in Song - Chapter 1: The Relief Concert - Episode 2

The relief concert continues as the idol Lilele takes the stage, her song causing the male attendees to lose themselves in their excitement. (Captain) and the others are astounded by the passionate cheers of the audience.

The excitement continues to run high as a tiny silhouette appears on stage and strikes a pose.
Lilele: Hi, everybody!
Artist's Son: I've never seen that flashy girl before. Is she a pop idol?
Lilele: Tee-hee. I'm gonna sing my heart out for you guys, so I hope you'll enjoy my song. It's called Dream-Colored Miracle!
Lilele: I close my eyes and see your smile,

the memory of its radiance undimmed

all this long while.
Lilele: Can you see my new color yet?

The color of the dream you gave me,

the dream-colored miracle that saved me.
Audience: L! O! V! E! Lovely Lilele! Our cute Lilele!
Audience: L! O! V! E! Lovely Lilele! Our cute Lilele!
Musician: Huh? What's gotten into you?
Instrument Crafter: No idea! Her song's got my body moving on its own!
Lyria: Wow... They're really getting into it.
Audience: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Lyria: Aaah!
Vyrn: Whoa! Lyria's gonna get trampled!
(Captain) weaves through the crowd and whisks Lyria back to safety.
Lyria: Urgh... I wasn't ready for that.
Vyrn: Maybe we should go someplace else until the next act. These guys are almost too into it.
Audience: Okay! Here we go!
Audience: All right! All right!
The men in the hall continue cheering for Lilele with every fiber of their being.

Together in Song - Chapter 1: The Relief Concert - Episode 3

Meanwhile during the concert, the young traveler retrieves a ruined painting by a certain artist's wife from beneath the rubble in town. Hearing voices coming from the town square, the young man leaves to check out the relief concert. The artist tosses his wife's painting onto a cart, his expression etched with regret.

???: Ah...
While the others are enjoying the concert in the town square, a young man digs out a painting from beneath the rubble.
???: Hey, you painted this, didn't you?
Artist: Well, yes I did...
???: I knew it! This one was sandwiched between two other paintings, so it managed to survive somehow.
???: Hehe. Amazing! It's a miracle.
Artist: A miracle?
The artist takes the painting from the young man, his face unsmiling. He sets it next to his other possessions.
Artist: By the way, there should have been one of my wife's paintings near this one.
???: A painting of the town, right? I'll check.
???: Ah... I-I'm sorry. I found the painting, but it's caked with mud and dirt...
Artist: There's no reason for you to apologize. Either way, I'll take it.
???: Okay...
???: Huh? Is something happening in the town square?
Artist: A relief concert or something. My son went with a friend of mine to see it.
???: A relief concert... So a music festival?
The young man turns to look in the direction of the voices, intrigued.
Artist: You ought to go check it out if you're interested. I'm sure you're worn out from all this work.
???: You're not going?
Artist: This rubble isn't going to clear itself. And besides, festivals aren't really my thing.
???: Has that always been the case?
Artist: Did you say something?
???: Oh. No, it's nothing.
???: Okay, well, I'm going to go check it out. I'll come back as soon as it's over.
Artist: ...
Without a glance at the young man, the artist unceremoniously tosses the ragged painting onto a cart.

Together in Song - Chapter 1: The Relief Concert - Episode 4

The young traveler is inspired by Elta and Selfira's performance in the relief concert. After the concert, Niyon reunites with an old friend, Narita. Possessing the ability to hear people's emotions as melodies, Niyon reveals that she came to the island to investigate after sensing something strange.

Lilele: Thanks so much for coming out to see the show! See you later!
Lilele's performance ends, and the audience is left in a state of drunken euphoria.
Selfira: Th-that was quite a reception...
Elta: It's pretty nerve-wracking having to follow such an overwhelming performance.
Selfira: You don't look nervous to me...
Elta: I've had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, so I guess I'm used to it.
Elta: If we just perform the way we always do, I'm sure we'll be able to reach the audience. Don't stress out.
Selfira: So this is what a gap in experience looks like... I'm impressed.
Elta: Everyone gets nervous when they're not used to it. I don't mean to sound patronizing, but I was like that when I first started out too.
Selfira: Thanks. Your composure has helped me calm down too.
Selfira lets down her long hair and breathes a small sigh.
Selfira: We're up. Let's go.
Elta: Right!
Vyrn: Oh? There they are!
Elta: ...
Elta and Selfira take a bow, raise their instruments, and begin to play.
???: (Wow... There are so many people here.)
???: (And... what a beautiful song...)
Lyria: They have such lovely voices. Hearing them sing is always so comforting.
Vyrn: Yeah, I like this song best when they sing it together.
???: Wow...
The young man listens attentively to the beautiful voices of Elta and Selfira.
Elta and Selfira: ...
At the end of their duet, the pair flourish their bows in perfect unison.
As the final note is carried away on the breeze, the hall breaks out in applause.
Selfira: I guess that went well...
Elta: Yeah! We did it!
Elta and Selfira each take a deep bow and leave the stage.
???: Huh?
The young man notices a warm liquid streaming from his eyes.
???: Haha... It's been a while since the last time I cried.
???: (This is it... This is what I should do for the people of the island!)
The man wipes away his tears and clenches his fists as he gazes up at the sky, a cheerful expression on his face.
After the relief concert, the members of the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra prepare to make their departure.
Niyon: Oh...
Narita: Niyon! What a surprise. I didn't expect to see you here.
Niyon: Yeah...
Niyon: This island is enveloped by a mysterious melody, so it piqued my interest.
Niyon is known among the Eternals for being able to hear people's emotions as melodies.
Narita: A mysterious melody?
Niyon: I can hear it resounding throughout the island... A solemn harmony, like a prayer.
Niyon: But there's something unsettling about it. It's beautiful, but it makes me feel uneasy all the same.
Narita: Hmm... I see.
Niyon is a crew member

Narita: Oh, right. (Captain) and the crew are in the dressing room...
Niyon: That will have to wait. My duty as an Eternal comes first.
Niyon: Otherwise I won't want to leave.
Narita: All right. I wish you luck, Niyon. Now then...
Narita: I'm afraid I need to leave for our next performance. Feel free to come listen to us play again if the mood strikes you.
Niyon: ...
Replying with a small nod, Niyon heads off elsewhere.

Together in Song - Chapter 2: Arte and the Artist - Episode 1

Following the concert, (Captain) and the crew decide to assist with the cleanup of the island, which turns out to be under the protection of the primal beast of the arts—Arte. The young traveler, named Caro, appears and tells Elta and Selfira how moved he was by their performance. He gives them a painting as thanks, from which Lyria senses a faint magical power.

Following the successful relief concert, the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra and other musicians depart from the island.
But upon seeing the grave state of the island, (Captain) and the crew decide to stay and help with the restoration efforts.
Vyrn: Whew. Hey, what do you want us to do with this rubble?
Instrument Crafter: Oh, you can add it to this pile.
Lyria: Okay!
Lyria: Heave-ho!
Instrument Crafter: I bet you're tuckered out from your long trip. Sorry for making you help out like this.
Vyrn: Don't worry about it! We're skyfarers—this is what we do!
Selfira: You know, there sure are a lot of broken statues around here.
Instrument Crafter: Yep. The area you're cleaning up was a park filled with statues where the islanders used to gather.
Elta: Is that right... I bet that was quite a sight.
Instrument Crafter: This town is under the divine protection of Arte, the primal beast of the arts. It was a beautiful place.
Lyria: There's a primal beast on this island?
Instrument Crafter: Seems that way. According to legend, it's all thanks to Arte that the town's been preserved so perfectly for so long.
???: That's why the people of this island engage in the arts on a daily basis. It's out of respect for Arte.
A young man suddenly appears behind (Captain) and the others, holding an oversized paintbrush in his hand like a broom.
Instrument Crafter: Haha. Listen to you brag.
???: Hehe. Well, I learned from the best.
???: Anyway, I was asked to come tell you that the supplies have arrived.
Instrument Crafter: Oh, thanks! Skyfarers, if you wouldn't mind continuing your work, I'll be back in a jiff.
The man hurries off toward the entrance of the town, a spring in his step.
???: Mind if I help?
Lyria: Oh! Would you?
???: It's perfect timing. I wanted to thank Elta and Selfira.
Elta: Thank us?
???: Yeah. Actually, I haven't introduced myself yet, have I?
Caro: I'm a wandering traveler who just recently arrived on this island. The name's Caro!
Caro tells Elta and Selfira how moved he was by their song at the relief concert and expresses his gratitude.
Caro: Music has the power to encourage people.
Caro: I already knew that, but being on the receiving end made it all the more obvious.
Elta: I'm so happy you were encouraged by our song!
Vyrn: Huh? Did something bad happen to you too, Brush Boy?
Caro: Huh? Well...
Caro: Hmm, maybe it was weird for me to say that when I'm just a traveler.
Lyria: I don't think it's weird at all. Bad things happen to everyone. We all feel depressed sometimes.
Caro: Y-you're right, Lyria. Yeah. Um, I was depressed because something bad happened to me!
Vyrn: Uh, that sounded really forced. Anybody else hear it that way?
Caro: Th-that's not true...
Caro: Oh, I almost forgot! I wanted to give you this as thanks for the song.
Caro pulls a painting out of his bag and hands it to Elta and Selfira.
Elta: Wow. What a beautiful bird painting.
Selfira: Those big, round eyes are adorable.
Caro: Beautiful... Adorable... Hehe. So that's how it looks in your eyes.
Selfira: Did you paint this, Caro? I didn't realize you were an artist.
Caro: I don't know that I'm worthy of being called an artist, but I did pour my heart into painting it. Feel free to hang it in your room if you'd like.
Caro removes the last piece of rubble from the cart and claps his hands together to brush the dust off.
Caro: I guess I'll be heading out. There are some other people I want to give paintings to.
Lyria: Thank you for your help.
Caro: Sure! See you around!
Vyrn: He was kind of a weirdo, huh.
Elta: But he seemed like a good person. Even though it was my first time meeting him, I didn't feel the least bit nervous.
Selfira: Well, that's a surprise. I thought you were pretty shy in front of strangers.
Elta: For some reason I was fine talking to Caro. Maybe it's because I saw that lovely portrait he painted.
Lyria: Huh? That painting...
Lyria peers at the painting in Elta's hands, seeming to have noticed something.
Lyria: It's very faint, but I sense some type of power.
Vyrn: Power? Whaddya mean power?
Lyria: Don't worry—it's not scary. It feels warm and kind.
Vyrn: Hmm? Well, sounds like it's not cursed or anything. Guess it's okay to take it with us.
(Captain) and the crew chat happily as they gaze at the beautifully colored painting.

Together in Song - Chapter 2: Arte and the Artist - Episode 2

(Captain) and company visit an evacuation shelter, where they are touched by the islanders' love for the arts. They inquire about one of Caro's paintings hanging in the shelter and learn more about Caro from one of the islanders. Elta's respect for Caro further increases upon learning that he is not only a skilled painter, but a talented musician as well.

After reaching a stopping point in their work, (Captain) and the crew pay a visit to the evacuation shelter to help bring in supplies.
Selfira: Hrgh... This box is pretty heavy...
Elta: Oh! I'll carry that one. Here.
Ceramic Artist: Thank you. I really appreciate your help.
Elta: Glad to be of assistance! Let me know if there's anything else I can do.
Elta and the others smile back at the grateful islanders.
Elta: (They're all such wonderful people. I want to help them however I can!)
Artist's Son: And this one... can go here...
A boy squats on the ground next to Elta, lining up a colorful assortment of glass fragments.
Ceramic Artist: Oh, that's beautiful! Are you making a mosaic?
Artist's Son: I was just thinking maybe I could make a picture out of pieces of broken glass bottles. So this is called a mosaic?
Ceramic Artist: Yes, it's an artistic technique often used in murals. Did you do all this on your own? I'm impressed.
Artist's Son: Yeah. We lost our art studio, so I figured I wouldn't be able to practice oil painting for a while...
Ceramic Artist: But if you make it on the ground, it's going to get all messed up.
Ceramic Artist: I know! I'll give you some of my clay, and you can put it together on top of that.
Ceramic Artist: My workshop survived the landslide, so when things settle down I'll bake it in the kiln for you. I'm sure it would make a lovely dish.
Artist's Son: Really? Wow, thanks!
The boy thanks the potter, his eyes dancing with excitement.
Elta: Every person on this island, young and old, seems to have a love for the arts and a deep respect for each other.
Elta: I have a feeling that's what made this such a beautiful place to begin with.
Lyria: Hehe. I like the people here more and more every second!
Elta and Lyria are touched by the genial spirit of the islanders.
Lyria: Look, Elta. There's a painting over here.
Lyria points to a portrait of flowers hanging on the wall.
Lyria: This feeling... Did Caro happen to paint this?
Musician: I'm impressed you could tell. He gave it to me just this morning.
Elta: He gave us a painting of a bird earlier too.
Musician: Oh, really? That makes three of us then.
Musician: He said he's painted all of them since coming to this island... He must be really fast.
Musician: Caro's really got it all. He's good at singing and playing instruments too. Just how talented can one person be?
Musician: And that instrument he's always carrying around? He made it himself! And he even writes his own songs!
Elta: That's incredible! He's good at art and music?
Musician: Oh, your song was delightful too! It really warmed my heart.
Musician: To tell you the truth, after everything that happened, I didn't think we had the luxury of enjoying music or art right now.
Musician: But Caro's songs and paintings really cheered me up. It feels like they pulled me out of a daze.
Elta: Caro's a wonderful person. I'd like to have a long chat with him if we cross paths again.
The crew and islanders get to know each other better as they continue their work.

Together in Song - Chapter 2: Arte and the Artist - Episode 3

While the crew is helping at the island's soup kitchen, Selfira is shocked to hear one of the islanders comment that the relief concert was worthless. That night the crew stays in an inn at the islanders' insistence. As (Captain) and the crew get ready to turn in for the night, Elta and Selfira diligently practice their instruments.

Once they've finished organizing the supplies, (Captain) and the crew head over to help at the soup kitchen.
Selfira: Here you go. Careful not to spill it.
Artist's Son: Okay! Thanks.
Vyrn: Hey, Selfira! We brought some more bowls.
Selfira: Great. Could you put them with the ones over there?
Musician: Oh, are you the same Selfira who played in the concert?
Selfira: Yes. I'm happy you remembered.
Musician: Of course I remembered. Hearing your song gave me goosebumps.
Musician: Thanks for sticking around to help. But make sure not to injure those precious fingers of yours, okay?
Selfira: Thanks, I'll be careful.
Selfira: Do you play an instrument yourself?
Musician: Yes. Actually, I play the—
Artist: Hey, if you're going to talk, could you do it somewhere else? You're holding up the line.
Musician: Oh... You're right.
The line moves forward, and an irritated man stands before Selfira.
Selfira: Sorry to keep you waiting. Here you go...
Artist: ...
The man lowers his gaze to the contents of the bowl, but doesn't budge.
Selfira: Um... Was that not enough?
Artist: Humph...
Artist: I was just thinking it's been a while since I had a hot meal.
Selfira: O-okay...
Artist: Thanks. This is a lot more helpful than that worthless concert.
Selfira: ...!
The man spits out the words and strides away.
Musician: Are you okay, Selfira?
Selfira: Yeah...
Selfira: I'm fine. I was just surprised, that's all.
Musician: Don't listen to him. Your performance was wonderful.
Selfira: Thanks.
Musician: Sorry about him. I'm sure he was just in a bad mood. There was no reason to phrase it like that.
Musician: Whoops, there I go talking again. I'll see you around.
Selfira: (Does this mean there were people who didn't want us to do the relief concert?)
Selfira: (I guess that makes sense... Everyone has their own opinions and their own situations to deal with.)
Selfira: (But did he have to call it worthless?)
Ceramic Artist: Excuse me... Could I have some food?
Selfira: Oh, I'm so sorry. Here you go.
Forcing a smile, Selfira hands a bowl to the next person in line.
But no matter how brightly she smiles, the man's words echo in her mind, refusing to let her forget them.
After a day of hard work, (Captain) and the crew head to an inn that escaped damage in the landslide.
Elta: Are you sure about this? Wouldn't it be better to let the evacuees use the inn?
Ceramic Artist: It's fine. We haven't been able to thank you properly for all the help you've given us, after all.
Ceramic Artist: Everyone feels the same way. So please make yourselves at home!
Vyrn: If they're gonna push that much, I guess it'd be rude to turn 'em down.
Elta: True. Let's take them up on their offer.
The woman escorts the crew to their room.
Ceramic Artist: Well then, I'll be on my way. I live in that workshop over there, so let me know if you need anything.
While everyone else is preparing for bed, Elta takes out his instrument and begins to warm up.
Vyrn: Oh, are you gonna play something?
Elta: I just felt like practicing a bit. I'll stop when everyone wants to go to sleep.
Selfira: But it's already late. Don't you think it might disturb the neighbors?
Elta: The innkeeper said this building's on the far edge of town, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Lyria: We're the only ones staying here, so practice away, I say!
Selfira: Hmm... In that case, I'll practice with you.
Bowing. Musical scales. Arpeggios.
They repeat these seemingly tedious tasks with scrupulous care, correcting every minute imperfection until they're completely satisfied.
Lyria: So the reason they're able to play so beautifully is because they practice like this every day, huh.
Vyrn: Yeah. They sure do work hard.
(Captain) and the crew watch the pair rehearse for a while as they get ready to turn in for the night.

Together in Song - Chapter 2: Arte and the Artist - Episode 4

That night Elta has a dream about when he was a child. People used to gather whenever he sang his parents' lullaby, and it was those experiences that led him to become a minstrel. Elta awakens to hear a mysterious singing voice coming from a nearby forest. Lyria senses the power of a primal beast coming from the same direction, and the crew heads into the forest in search of the voice's owner.

That night Elta has a dream about when he was a child.
Girl: Look over there, Mommy!
Girl's Mother: Wow, there are flowers covering the side of that hill. How lovely. Why don't we pick a bunch to give to Daddy?
Girl: Yay! A present for Daddy!
???: ...
A mother playing with her child—a commonplace sight on any island.
But for Elta, who never had parents growing up, it was far from commonplace.
Girl: What are you doing, Mommy?
Girl's Mother: I'm making a flower crown. Would you like to make one with me?
He had people to teach him how to play, people to pat his head at bedtime and tell him they loved him. Kind grown-ups who were always by his side.
But they weren't his parents. Even though they did just as much for him as a parent would—perhaps even more—they were still not his parents.
Young Elta: ...
Why didn't he have parents? The question arose within him like a sudden evening shower, clouding his heart.
He knew it was selfish since he had grown-ups to shower him with love, but he couldn't help but wonder sometimes.
Young Elta: Father... Mother...
Elta would call out to his parents from within his heart, even though he couldn't remember their faces.
Whenever he did so, a certain song would pop into his head, and he would sing along with the melody.
Young Elta: Hehe.
The lullaby his parents left behind was the one and only remaining bond he shared with them.
And he soon discovered that the song had the ability to create new bonds as well.
Girl: Wow! That's a really pretty song!
Young Elta: Huh? You think so?
Girl's Mother: Yes. You're a very good singer. Would you mind singing it again?
Young Elta: O-okay!
People would gather when he sang. At times they laughed, and at other times they cried.
They left a strong impression on Elta, whose interest in music continued to deepen.
He decided he wanted to encourage people using the mysterious power of music.
Elta: Ngh...
Elta: Huh? Is someone singing?
Elta wakes up in the middle of the night and hears the faint sound of singing in the distance.
As though drawn to the mysterious voice, he quietly climbs out of bed and heads out of the inn.
Mysterious Voice: ...
Elta: It's coming from the forest. I wonder if someone lives in there?
Monster: Grrr...
Elta: Aaah!
Lyria: Huh? Elta?
Elta: Oh, I'm sorry! Did I wake you up?
Lyria: Oh, no. I woke up because I sensed a primal beast all of a sudden.
Elta: A primal beast? Do you think it's Arte—the one the villagers mentioned?
Lyria: I'm not sure... I've never sensed it this clearly before though.
Lyria: I wonder if it's related to that song.
Lyria: I'll go wake up (Captain)!
Selfira: Did something happen? I heard someone scream...
Elta: Sorry, that was me... I didn't mean to startle you.
Mysterious Voice: ...
Selfira: Huh? That voice...
Selfira: Is someone singing? They're really good.
Elta: I wonder what the person singing is like...
Selfira: What do you say we go look for them together?
Elta: All right!
Lyria emerges from the inn with a sleepy (Captain) and Vyrn, and they make their way into the forest with Elta and Selfira.

Together in Song - Chapter 3: The Singing Voice - Episode 1

The crew realizes that the singing voice and the primal beast's presence are both coming from the same cave. As they discuss the song they're hearing, they notice that their individual impressions of the music seem to vary wildly. Wondering if that might be the primal's power, they continue making their way through the cave until they finally come upon an unexpected figure.

Mysterious Voice: ...
(Captain) and the crew head into the forest, led by the mysterious voice.
Elta: (I feel like I've heard that voice somewhere before...)
Vyrn: Hey, Lyria. You said you sensed a primal beast, right? Is it where that song's coming from?
Lyria: Yeah. It's coming from the same direction.
Selfira: When you say primal beast, you don't mean a violent one like Midgardsormr, right?
Lyria: Right. The presence feels warm and kind, just like the song we're hearing.
Vyrn: There are all kinds of primal beasts out there. We can trust Lyria when she says this one's okay.
After walking along for a short while, they come across a cave deep in the forest.
Elta: The voice is coming from that cave.
Lyria: So is the presence of the primal beast... Do you think the primal is singing?
Selfira: It's a very cheerful voice. It sort of reminds me of my grandad when he hums.
Lyria: Are you talking about Keehar?
Selfira: Yeah. He has a habit of humming when he's in a good mood. Sometimes he even does a little jig with it.
Elta: He dances? To a song like this?
Selfira: Huh? Well, it's a fun song, so... yeah?
Elta: Um... It sounds calm and quiet to me—like a lullaby.
Selfira: Huh? What do you think, Lyria?
Lyria: Um... It doesn't sound like a fun song or a lullaby to me. It sounds big and free—like the sky.
Vyrn: It reminds me of that song we used to hear on Zinkenstill. What about you, (Captain)?
  1. It sounds majestic, like an orchestra.
  2. It sounds elegant, like a harp.

Choose: It sounds majestic, like an orchestra.
Selfira: Majestic? Like the Sky Philharmonic Orchestra's performance? It's definitely just as beautiful.

Choose: It sounds elegant, like a harp.
Elta: It is very elegant. Perfect for a quiet evening.

Vyrn: But it's like we're all hearing something different... Even though we're listening to the same song.
Lyria: Hmm... Maybe this is the power of the primal beast.
The mysterious singing voice fills the crew with anticipation and uncertainty.
They continue making their way through the cave until they finally come upon an unexpected figure.

Together in Song - Chapter 3: The Singing Voice - Episode 2

The owner of the singing voice turns out to be Caro. (Captain) and company witness him painting a portrait using magic paint and discover that his true identity is that of the primal beast of the arts, Arte. Caro tells the crew that he hid his true identity so he could interact more naturally with the islanders. Suddenly, Niyon makes her appearance.

Led by a singing voice, (Captain) and the crew have made their way through the forest, eventually coming across a cave. Inside they find the wandering traveler, Caro.
Caro: ...
Seemingly oblivious to his surprise visitors, Caro focuses intently on his canvas.
He carefully adds detail to the fur coat of a charming cat, as though breathing life into it.
Lyria: The presence is coming from Caro. I'm sure of it.
Vyrn: You didn't feel it when we met him earlier today?
Lyria: It's possible I just missed it, but I think he was intentionally hiding it.
Caro: Hmm... I think I'll go with a sunset for the background.
He waves his paintbrush, and the tip of the brush suddenly changes color from yellow to red.
Lyria: It looks like he's using some kind of magic paint. The power I felt from those paintings must have been because of that paint.
Caro: All finished!
Lyria: Wow... What a cute kitty.
Caro: Hehe. So that's how it looks in your eyes.
Caro: Huh?
Caro: Gyah!
Vyrn: Whoa! You okay, Brush Boy?
Lyria: Oh no! The painting fell over and got all muddy.
Caro: Haha. Oh well. I can just paint another one.
Caro: How long have you been standing there? You saw that just now, didn't you?
Elta: I-I don't know what you're talking about! We didn't see your paint change colors or anything, no sir!
Vyrn: Geez, you're like an open book!
Caro: Okay. Thank goodness you didn't see it.
Vyrn: Wha! He bought it...
Lyria: Why did you hide it, Caro?
Caro: H-hide what?
Lyria: You're a primal beast, aren't you? I could sense it when you were singing.
Lyria: But now you're hiding your presence. It's like you're sending a clear message that you don't want anyone to find out.
Caro: Huh? Just who are you?
Lyria tells Caro about her ability and about the events up until they reached the cave.
Caro: Wow... You can sense primal beasts? Well, I never.
Caro: But from the looks of it, you're not afraid of me. That's a relief.
Elta: I'm guessing you hid your presence so you wouldn't scare us.
Caro: Yeah. Primal beasts are known throughout the skies as huge, powerful beings, and this island is no exception.
Caro: Being respected is nice and all, but I took the form of a normal person so as not to put up any walls between myself and the islanders.
Vyrn: You seem kinda scatterbrained, just like Elta. I bet you two'd get along real well!
Elta: Huh? I'm scatterbrained?
Caro: Hehe. Don't worry—we can be scatterbrained together!
Elta: O-okay...
Caro thrusts out his hand, and Elta shakes it.
Caro: Well, I guess I ought to formally introduce myself...
Caro: I'm the primal beast Arte. My duty is to protect the hearts of those who love the arts.
Caro: Oh, but please call me Caro. If the islanders found out I was Arte, I'm sure they'd be shocked to say the least.
Vyrn: There are a ton of paintings around here. Did you paint all these?
Caro: Yep.
Caro: This is my studio. Feel free to take a look around.
Lyria: Yay! Thank you!
Caro: You know, I sure have had a lot of visitors today.
Vyrn: Who else came by?
Caro: Huh? She was just here a second ago. Where'd she go?
Niyon: You called?
Elta: Wha! Niyon?

Together in Song - Chapter 3: The Singing Voice - Episode 3

Caro attempts to give the crew his piece of the Sky Map, but his power has been behaving strangely ever since the landslide, and he is unable to do so. Niyon guesses that the disaster changed the hearts of the islanders, causing Caro's difficulty with his power. (Captain) and the crew promise to help Caro resolve his problem.

Caro: Oh, you all know each other?
Niyon nods.
Lyria: How did you know about this place, Niyon?
Niyon: I followed a mysterious melody and ended up here.
Caro: Niyon seems to have quite an interesting ability. She says she heard the melody of my emotions echoing throughout the island.
Niyon: I wondered why I could hear it so clearly, but after listening to your conversation, I finally understand.
Niyon: It's because you're a primal beast. And you have enough power to affect the entire island.
Caro: Yeah. I'm sorry for hiding it from you.
Caro: But I can only affect the island because I have a pact with it. I'm not particularly strong or anything.
Vyrn: You have a pact with the island? Hey, you wouldn't happen to have a piece of the Sky Map, would you?
Caro: A piece of the Sky Map? As a matter of fact, I do. What about it?
Lyria: We're traveling the skies in search of Sky Map pieces.
(Captain) tells Caro about their journey so far, and about their desire to find Estalucia, the Island of the Astrals.
Caro: Wow, that's quite a journey you've been on!
Caro: All right. In that case I'd be happy to entrust your crew with my Sky Map piece.
Vyrn: Wait, seriously? You're gonna hand over the Sky Map piece just like that?
Caro: I call myself a traveler, but the truth is, I've never actually traveled before.
Caro: So hearing you talk about your journey was really exciting! Just think of this as a little thank-you.
Caro touches his chest with his fingertip and closes his eyes.
Caro: Huh? It's not coming out...
Lyria: What? Why not?
Caro: I'm not sure...
Caro: Drat. And after I already promised to give it to you and everything...
Lyria: Don't worry about the Sky Map piece. It's not your fault...
Lyria: But won't it cause you problems if you can't control your power?
Caro: Yeah... Not to mention everyone else on the island.
Caro: I wonder if it's because of the landslide? Something's felt a bit off ever since that day...
Vyrn: I guess it'd make sense you'd be affected since you have a pact with the island and all.
Niyon: The hearts of the people on this island...
Caro: Huh? Their hearts?
Niyon: They've changed, haven't they? I'm sure the island's melody used to be much more beautiful.
Niyon: But now it's overflowing with misery, woe, and regret.
Caro: Well, just look at what they've been through... Do you think their hearts changing is why I'm having difficulty with my power?
Niyon: I don't know, but the melody of the island is quite unpleasant...
Vyrn: So that means we just need to cheer up the islanders to make Caro feel better!
Caro: Hehe. I guess you're right! Let's get me all fixed up so I can hand over that Sky Map piece!
Lyria: We'll do what we can to help you and the islanders cheer up!
Lyria: Isn't that right, (Captain)?
Caro: Hehe. It sure is nice having people I can talk to about my problems!
Niyon not in crew

Niyon: (His melody is the same as always. It sounds slightly pained, but there doesn't seem to be anything concerning.)
Niyon: (The unpleasant melody is the one flowing from the island itself. They're similar, but it seems his own emotions are separate.)
Niyon: (I suppose I should do a bit more investigating.)
Caro thanks the crew, a pleasant smile on his face.

Niyon is a crew member

Niyon: ...
Niyon: Hey. Could I look at more of your paintings?
Caro: Yeah, of course!
Niyon: Let's go, (Captain).
Niyon takes (Captain) by the hand and heads to the back of the studio.
Niyon: Hey, (Captain). This island is currently filled with a strange melody. It feels like something is waiting to happen.
Niyon: I thought that guy was the source of the strange melody, but I was wrong. It's echoing throughout the entire island.
Niyon: I don't know the best way to describe it, but it's very unpleasant. I'm going to try investigating the island a bit more.
Niyon informs the crew that she'll be operating on her own for a while. But (Captain) is worried by her sudden change in demeanor.
Niyon: I appreciate your concern. But don't worry. I won't overdo it.
Niyon: Let's head back.

Together in Song - Chapter 3: The Singing Voice - Episode 4

Caro's power causes his paintings to appear differently to each person who sees them. Elta is impressed that Caro is able to paint multiple pictures in a single night, but Caro tells them that it's all thanks to the inspiration he received from Elta and Selfira's performance. Niyon senses something strange happening in town, and the crew hurries to the relief shelter to find it under attack by a huge monster. A battle ensues.

Caro rights the overturned easel, sets a fresh canvas on it, and begins to paint once more.
A vivid image starts to form on the previously white canvas like magic before the crew's eyes.
Caro: I guess that just about does it.
Selfira: I can't believe it... I've never seen anyone paint so fast.
Lyria: And he didn't even use his power as a primal beast. Every stroke was done by hand.
Caro: My power only affects the heart. It's not for creating works of art.
Caro: But after seeing the islanders' love for the arts, I decided to give it a try myself. So every once in a while I went into town to study.
Caro: Everyone was so gracious and willing to teach me. But I had to limit my visits so they wouldn't find out my true identity.
Selfira: So does that mean you're good at art and music because you practiced a lot? Not because you're a primal beast?
Caro: I guess. I'm pretty sure anyone could do it if they had hundreds of years to practice.
Niyon: But there's something mysterious about each and every one of your creations.
Niyon: The visual images your songs create change depending on the listener... I assume your paintings are the same?
Caro: Shrewd as ever, I see. Whenever I create my works, they become infused with magic.
Caro: The image changes to match the heart of the viewer. If the person thinks it's cute, it becomes even cuter.
Lyria: Wow! Your paintings change when people look at them? How magical!
Caro: But if the person thinks it's bad, it'll become even worse, so it's kind of a double-edged sword.
Elta: ...
Selfira: You haven't said much, Elta. Something wrong?
Elta: Oh, um...
Elta: I was just thinking about how Caro paints several pictures in a single night to give to the townspeople. He's pretty amazing.
Caro: I paint several a night now, but I was on hiatus for a while.
Caro: The relief concert is what inspired me to start painting again.
Selfira: Really?
Caro: I felt refreshed after listening to the concert. And I wanted everyone else to feel the same way.
Caro: You're the ones who helped me figure out what I could do for the islanders. Thank you, Elta. Selfira.
Niyon: ...!
Lyria: What's wrong, Niyon?
Niyon: I hear an unpleasant melody... Something may have happened in town.
Vyrn: Those melodies of yours sure are useful.
Vyrn: Let's get back to town, (Captain)! Quick!
Caro: I'll go with you—
Caro: ...!
Caro grimaces and clutches his chest.
Lyria: Are you okay? Does it hurt somewhere?
Caro: It's nothing. Let's get going.
Monster: Groooar!
They make their way back to the shelter to find a monster breaking in through a hole in the wall.
Musician: Aaah!
Instrument Crafter: It's not safe here! Get outside, everyone!
Monster: Graaah!
Artist's Son: No! Don't step on my father's painting!
The boy frantically dashes over and snatches a painting out from under the monster's feet.
Monster: Grrr!
Artist's Son: Eek!
Artist: Get down!
Monster: ...!
The artist throws a stone to distract the monster and rescues his son.
Artist's Son: Father... That was so scary...
Artist: You skyfarers are a skilled bunch, correct?
Artist: That giant thing is too much for us. Think you could give us a hand?
Vyrn: Sure thing! We're on it!
Artist: You go with Caro and find someplace safe. I'll help the others escape.
Artist's Son: Father, the painting...
Caro: I'll hide it somewhere, so let's get away from here for now. This way!

Together in Song - Chapter 4: Hidden Scars - Episode 1

The islanders have lost a majority of their food supplies due to the monster attack, but (Captain) and the crew offer to help transport additional supplies. The artist who lost his wife lashes out at his son for putting himself in danger for the sake of a painting and throws the painting, tearing it. Feeling a sharp pain in his chest, Caro heads back to his studio with the torn painting, followed by Elta.

Once (Captain) and the crew have driven out the monster, the islanders return to the shelter.
Musician: Whew... We're saved...
Instrument Crafter: I don't know what we would've done if it wasn't for you skyfarers. I can't thank you enough.
Vyrn: All in a day's work! I'm just glad we made it back in time so nobody got hurt.
Elta: The shelter itself wasn't so lucky though...
Elta frowns as he looks around at the toppled wooden boxes, their former contents strewn across the floor.
Musician: What are we going to do? We've lost the majority of our food supplies.
Instrument Crafter: Looks like we have enough for tomorrow, but we'll need to make getting more food a top priority...
The man's shoulders slump as he leans over to begin cleaning up the mess.
Instrument Crafter: If only we could use the wagons... But it's still going to be a while before the road to the port's clear.
Selfira: Is there only one road?
Instrument Crafter: There's another route, but we can't use it since it goes straight through a forest full of monsters.
Vyrn: Then why don't we help you out? If they're like the monsters we just fought, it'll be a piece of cake!
Instrument Crafter: Really? Haha. That'd be great!
Musician: Judging by that fight we just witnessed, I'm confident you lot can handle them. But don't get hurt out there, okay?
Thanks to the crew's offer of assistance, the mood in the shelter lightens once more.
Lyria: Huh? Where's Caro?
Caro and the artist's son emerge from their hiding place, and Caro retrieves the boy's painting from the box where he stashed it for safety.
Caro: See? It's okay!
Artist's Son: You're right! Thank goodness...
Caro: And it's all thanks to your courage. I know it must have been scary, but you kept it together.
Artist: I checked outside, and there were no signs of monsters anywhere. Let's clean up this mess.
Artist's Son: Look, Father! The painting's okay! Aren't you proud of me?
Seeing his son holding up the portrait with sparkling eyes, the man clenches his fists, his face turning scarlet.
Artist: Of course I'm not proud! What were you thinking, fighting back against that monster? You could have died!
Artist's Son: B-but...
Caro: Don't be so hard on him. He was just trying to protect your painting.
Artist: No one asked you! Some silly painting isn't worth getting seriously injured over!
Caro: But he wasn't hurt, so all's well that ends well, eh?
Artist: I couldn't care less about this painting! If I'm going to lose my family over it, I might as well just do this instead!
The man snatches the painting from his son's hands and hurls it across the room.
A piece of broken glass rips a large hole in the canvas.
Caro: ...
It's happening again...
Artist's Son: How could you, Father... Why did you do that?
Artist: Come on. Let me see to your injuries.
Artist's Son: But I'm not hurt! Hey, where are we going, Father? Father!
The artist takes his son by the hand and drags him out into the hallway.
Caro: ...
Caro releases his grip on his chest and picks up the torn painting.
Instrument Crafter: You okay?
Caro: I'm fine. Sorry about that. I didn't mean to start a fight.
Musician: I understand where he's coming from, but he didn't have to go that far! I'm going to go give him a piece of my mind!
Caro: ...
Elta: Caro, are you sure you're all right?
Caro: Oh... Yeah. I'm just worried about that man.
Caro: He used to love art more than anyone... In the past I could have never imagined him throwing a painting the way he just did.
Caro tucks the damaged painting carefully under his arm.
Caro: Since the monster's been taken care of, I'm going to head back to my studio.
Caro: You were a huge help, (Captain). It's all thanks to your crew that no one was killed.
Lyria: Caro looked like he was in pain.
Elta: Yeah... A lot of pain.
Selfira: So that man used to love art more than anyone...
Artist: Thanks. This is a lot more helpful than that worthless concert.
Selfira: (So maybe in the past he wouldn't have said something like that...)
Elta: I think I'll escort Caro back to his studio. He didn't look too great...
Elta: I doubt there's anything I can do to help, but I can't just let him go alone.
Vyrn: H-hey!
Vyrn: Did he forget about the monsters in the forest?
Ignoring the crew's concerns, Elta leaves the shelter alone to follow after Caro.

Together in Song - Chapter 4: Hidden Scars - Episode 2

Caro runs up just as Elta encounters a monster. The pair find kindred spirits in each other as they stroll through the forest, discussing music. Lyria and the others come to fetch Elta, and Caro heads toward his studio to mend the man's painting, declaring that he believes in the power of art.

Elta: Huh? I was sure he went this way...
Elta: Oh no. I must have lost sight of him in the dark...
Monster: Grrr...
Elta: Oh man... Wh-what do I do now?
Elta: I'll try singing to calm it down, and then while it's distracted—
Monster: Grrr... Graaah...
Caro: Elta! I thought I heard a voice. Are you all right?
Elta: Wha!
Elta: A-are you the one who defeated that monster?
Caro: I don't normally show people this, but I can shoot paint with a wave of my brush.
Caro: Hehe. The brush is mightier than the sword and all that, right?
Elta: W-well, yes, but...
Caro: Did you follow me because you were worried about me? I'm sorry for putting you in danger.
Caro: This forest is crawling with monsters. But that makes it the perfect place to live my life hidden from the islanders.
Elta notices the torn painting under Caro's arm.
Elta: Are you taking that painting back to your studio?
Caro: Yeah. I'm going to try fixing it.
Elta: Can it be fixed?
Caro: It won't be as good as new, but I'll spare no effort. I can't stand to just leave it like this.
Caro looks down at the painting, smiling fondly.
Caro: Don't you think it's a lovely painting? It'd be a shame to throw it away.
Elta: I hope that man will take it back...
Caro: Even if he won't, I'll just keep it for myself.
Caro: For some reason I don't really care if he'll accept it or not. I wonder why that is?
Elta: I see...
Caro: Hehe. Strange, isn't it?
Caro: Shall we go for a stroll? I'm in the mood for some conversation.
Caro: Some music would be nice. Could I ask you to hold this painting?
After handing the painting to Elta, Caro takes the instrument from his back and strums the strings gently.
Elta: That song...
Caro: I only heard it once, so I might be getting parts of it wrong...
Caro: Hehe. It really is a nice song.
Elta: A legendary crew of traveling minstrels once sang that song to lull a primal beast to sleep.
Elta: But it holds a different meaning for me. My parents used to sing it to me as a lullaby, back when they were still around.
Caro: Is that so? It must be really special to you.
Caro continues to play, and the forest falls silent as though listening to the music.
Caro: Have you learned most of your songs by ear?
Elta: Yes. I've also been taught a lot of songs by the people on various islands I've visited.
Caro: Learning new songs really lets you feel the warmth and history of the people.
Caro: I actually enjoy reading scores too. I have a collection of them in my studio that I like to peruse from time to time.
Elta: Do you mean musical scores, like the ones orchestras use? I've only ever seen a handful of them.
Caro: They're delightful. I'll show you my collection the next time you visit my studio.
Caro: You can practically hear the music resounding from the notes on the page. And there are terms written throughout like memos—thoughts that couldn't be expressed through notes alone...
Caro: Amabile, cantabile, dolce, legato, fantastico...
Caro: Music is so fleeting, disappearing in an instant like a snowflake in the palm of your hand. So I always wonder what the composers were thinking when they created their works.
Caro: Just imagining it makes my heart pound with excitement. It's like traversing space and time to touch their hearts.
Elta: I know what you mean. Music can't be seen, so it leaves nothing tangible behind.
Elta: That's why you have to search for the meaning yourself, by experiencing the imagery created by the music and the path it's traveled on its way to you.
Elta: And once you finally discover the meaning behind the music, playing it again elicits all kinds of emotions! It feels like you've uncovered the song's true form.
Elta: You can clearly understand the feelings and desires poured into the song. It makes you want to treasure it.
Caro: I knew you'd understand.
Caro: You're the type of person who values every note and lyric of a song. That's why you're able to move people's hearts.
Caro: Especially that particular song... It sounded solemn, like a prayer. That's just my interpretation though.
Elta: Your song sounded like a prayer to me as well. It felt kind and comforting.
Caro: So that's how it sounded to you. You must really enjoy that type of music.
Elta: Oh, that's right... Your songs change depending on the listener.
Caro: But I'm happy to hear you describe it like that, since that's exactly the way I sang it.
Caro: I prayed that my song would bring peace to the hearts of the islanders.
Vyrn: Hey, Elta!
Lyria: Oh, you found Caro! Thank goodness.
Selfira: I can't believe you, running off by yourself. It's dangerous here! It's pitch dark, and there are monsters lurking everywhere.
Selfira: We were able to find Caro since Lyria sensed his presence, but we had no idea where you were.
Elta: I-I'm sorry... You're right. Things might have turned out differently if Caro hadn't managed to find me...
Caro: Looks like your friends are here to pick you up. In that case, I'll get going.
Caro takes the painting back from Elta.
Caro: I believe in the power of art, Elta.
Caro: Art can truly make a difference at times like these. That's what I believe.
Caro: Let's do what we can to help the islanders, Elta.
Elta: Right.
Elta: I hope that man will accept the painting.
Caro: ...!
Caro: Yeah. I'd like that.
Elta: (He obviously does care. Otherwise he wouldn't be fixing the painting.)
Selfira: Weren't you going to escort Caro to his studio?
Elta: Oh, whoops!
Elta: Wait, Caro! I'll go with you!
Caro: I appreciate the thought. But it's already late. You all should head back and get some sleep.
Caro heads deeper into the forest, his footsteps resolute.
Vyrn: Guess there's nothing to worry about. Let's get going.
Selfira: Believe in the power of art, huh...
Elta: Something wrong?
Selfira: No, it's nothing. Let's go.
(Captain) and the crew make their way back down the road and return to the inn.

Together in Song - Chapter 4: Hidden Scars - Episode 3

A few nights later, Selfira tells the crew that the artist's son asked her and Elta to leave the island for his father's sake. She explains that the artist lost his wife in the landslide because of a painting, and as a result he has become unable to tolerate any and all forms of art. In the end Elta and Selfira decide to stay, but Selfira for some reason feels no sense of relief.

A few days later, (Captain) and the crew are transporting supplies using the alternative route through the forest. Meanwhile Elta and Selfira help with the removal of debris.
Elta: Heave-ho!
Elta: Whew...
Instrument Crafter: Nice work! Haha. Now wagons can finally make it here from the port!
Selfira: Transporting supplies will be a lot easier now. All that work finally paid off.
Vyrn: Hey! The supplies are here!
You guys sure sound like you're having fun.
Elta: Welcome back, (Captain). Everyone.
Instrument Crafter: We can finally use the main road again. Thanks, skyfarers. We couldn't have done it without you.
Lyria: Hehe. Let's keep up the pace and get to cleaning up the town next!
Caro: Thank you. It sure is reassuring having your crew around, (Captain).
Lyria: Oh, Caro!
Lyria: I meant to tell you... We saw some of your paintings at the port. They were hanging all over the place!
Ceramic Artist: I saw one by my workshop too! I'm surprised you have the energy to paint all those pictures when you're helping out here every day.
Caro: Hehe. I'll keep painting them as long as they make people happy!
Instrument Crafter: Let's hold off on the chatter until we get that shipment unloaded. We don't want to keep the wagons waiting.
The islanders make their way toward the supply wagon brought by (Captain) and the crew.
Artist's Son: Excuse me, miss?
Selfira: Huh? Are you talking to me?
Artist's Son: Yeah...
Artist's Son: Um... Can I talk to you about my father?
Selfira: Sure, I don't mind. But let's go somewhere else so we don't get in everyone's way.
They continue transporting supplies, clearing debris, and repairing buildings until the sun goes down.
Elta: ...
Elta sits on his bed in the inn, playing his instrument alone.
Lyria: Wow, Elta. You're still practicing? I know you must be tired.
Elta: No, I was just playing a bit to switch gears.
Elta: Besides, I'll get rusty if I don't at least practice with my bow now and then.
Selfira: ...
Vyrn: You don't have to practice, Selfira?
Selfira: Er... I-I guess I ought to...
Selfira opens her case and starts to take out her instrument, but then pauses.
Selfira: How much longer are we going to stay here?
Vyrn: I think we were gonna stay until they could use the road again and get back to business as usual.
Vyrn: Sounds like they've sent out requests to other skyfarers, so I doubt it'll be much longer.
Selfira: I see... I hope you're right.
Elta: ...?
Elta stops playing and turns toward Selfira.
Elta: Is something wrong, Selfira?
Selfira: Well, you see... That artist's son talked to me today.
Selfira: He said he was sorry that his father was mean to me.
Elta: Mean to you?
Selfira: Well... His father said something to me the other day.
Artist: Thanks. This is a lot more helpful than that worthless concert.
Elta: I had no idea...
Selfira: And apparently the islanders got angry and told him to fix his attitude.
Selfira: That kid must have heard them talking and came to apologize on his father's behalf. And he also asked me a favor.
Selfira: He wanted Elta and me to leave the island...
Elta: What?
Vyrn: B-but why? You and Elta didn't do anything wrong.
Selfira: He told me his father is usually very kind, but he gets a scary look on his face when he sees Elta or me.
Selfira: He doesn't want his father to be angry anymore... And he definitely doesn't want to see him throw a painting like that again.
Elta: So that's the reason behind it... But why did his father get so upset?
Selfira: He lost his wife in the landslide.
Selfira: While they were evacuating, his wife went back to the house, saying there was a painting she couldn't bear to leave behind. And, well, you can figure out the rest...
Selfira: I don't blame him for hating that painting. It must hurt to look at any painting—not just that one.
Vyrn: But music doesn't have anything to do with it. So what's his problem with musicians like you and Elta?
Selfira: I guess he's just sensitive to all of it.
Selfira: Anyway, that's why I think it's best if Elta and I leave the island.
Selfira: We could even swap out with a couple of the crew members watching the ship. What do you say, (Captain)?
  1. All right. If that's what you want.
  2. I think you two should stay.

Choose: All right. If that's what you want.
Elta: ...
Elta: Um, (Captain)... I think we should stay here.

Choose: I think you two should stay.
Selfira: Huh? Why's that?
Elta: Actually... I think so too.
Continue 1
Elta: We're here right now as skyfarers, not musicians...
Elta: I think the islanders can use all the help they can get right now.
Vyrn: Yeah, and there are a lot of musicians who live here anyway.
Selfira: That's true. I guess I should focus on my duty as part of the crew.
Lyria: Huh?
The conversation is interrupted by the sound of rain hitting the roof.
Elta: That came out of nowhere. I hope it lets up by morning...
Selfira: (I had a feeling that's how (Captain) and the others would respond...)
Selfira: (Why do I feel so disappointed? Do I really want to leave that badly?)
Selfira: ...
Selfira lets out a small sigh in front of her instrument case, still left hanging open.
Elta: (Selfira's really letting all this get to her...)
Elta: Let's get to bed. String instruments sound muddled on rainy days anyway.
Elta puts away his instrument and starts getting ready for bed.
Selfira: (I made him worry about me... How pathetic am I?)
Following Elta's lead, Selfira quietly closes her instrument case.
Artist's Son: Huh... Is that rain?
Artist: It'll blow over soon. Don't worry. Just go to sleep.
Artist's Son: Okay... Good night.
Artist: ...
Meanwhile tension hangs in the air of the shelter due to the sudden sound of rain.

Together in Song - Chapter 4: Hidden Scars - Episode 4

The islanders come to the inn in the middle of the night, seeking the crew's assistance. They fear another landslide is eminent due to heavy rain loosing the soil, so the crew and Caro head off to help, but they are forced to abandon their efforts due to falling rocks. Selfira is disappointed in herself for her naivety.

Elta: Zzz...
Vyrn: Hehe... I can't eat any more apples... Zzz...
As the night wears on, the storm outside becomes increasingly intense.
But the crew sleeps peacefully, oblivious to the sound of rain hammering on the window.
Musician: Skyfarers! Please help us!
Vyrn: Gyah! Wh-what happened?
Musician: All this rain is loosening the soil. We might have another landslide on our hands!
Elta: A landslide?
Selfira: Wake up! This is serious!
Elta: ...!
Oh no! Let's get moving!
Musician: ...
Caro: (Captain)! Everyone! Oh, you're already awake.
Elta: Caro, the town's in trouble!
Caro: I know. I'll go with you.
Instrument Crafter: The wood for building reinforcements still isn't here?
Artist: Forget about that, and hold this fence up! If it gives way, there won't be anything left!
Ceramic Artist: Put the sandbags over here. Quick!
Lyria: Oh no! The road...
The road that had finally been cleared earlier that same day is now littered with rocks, making it difficult for the wagons to pass through.
Artist: Hurry! We're going to have trouble if we don't get this done quick!
The rain beats down with an angry roar. Elta hesitates, momentarily overwhelmed by the situation.
Elta: What can I do?
Crafter's Voice: Help us over here! We need more people!
Elta: O-okay!
Vyrn: Let's give 'em a hand, (Captain)!
Musician's Voice: Selfira, Lyria, you two help us guide the wagons!
Selfira: Got it!
Ceramic Artist: Caro, you stack the sandbags. Sorry, I know they're heavy.
Caro: Okay, I'm on it!
(Captain) and the others concentrate on their assigned tasks.
Elta: Whoa! Watch out, this area's really slippery!
Vyrn: You'll be in a lot of pain if you fall off this slope. We're pretty high up.
Selfira: The wood's here. But how do we get it up to where Elta and the others are?
Artist: I'll come to you. Make a path.
The man carefully makes his way down the slope to get the wood from the islanders.
Artist: All right, I'll secure the fence with these. Make sure you keep pushing!
Elta: G-got it!
Vyrn: Gyah! Look out for that rock!
A large rock suddenly lands next to Elta and the others, coming to a stop in the middle of the road at the base of the cliff.
Selfira: (No... We'd finally gotten the road cleared...)
Instrument Crafter: Damn it... It's like that night all over again.
Artist: I wouldn't be surprised if a landslide started any moment now...
Artist: Fall back! Our lives come first!
Elta: But we're not finished reinforcing the fence...
Artist: I said fall back! Get a move on!
Elta: O-okay...
Admitting defeat, Elta carefully makes his way down the muddy slope.
Musician: Sigh... The road is blocked again, and we weren't able to get the fence reinforced. Nothing but bad news...
Selfira: ...
Ceramic Artist: I guess we're going to have another disaster on our hands. At least no one was hurt by that rock.
Ceramic Artist: It's not safe here. Let's get back to the shelter. You too, Selfira.
Selfira: O-okay...
Selfira: (I guess it shouldn't be surprising that the same disaster's happening again.)
Selfira: (But the thought hadn't even occurred to me. I was so naive...)
Selfira and the islanders make their way back to the shelter through the pouring rain.

Together in Song - Chapter 5: When It Rains, It Pours - Episode 1

Back at the shelter, Elta prepares to sing a lullaby but is met with a negative reaction from one of the islanders who claims that art is useless at a time like this. Caro argues back, but this angers the artist, who flings Caro aside, the impact causing his handmade instrument to crack. Caro makes to leave the shelter but collapses from the pain in his chest.

Forced to abandon their work due to the strengthening downpour, (Captain) and the crew return to the shelter with the islanders.
Lyria: I set another bucket over there. Are there any other leaks?
Ceramic Artist: No. Wow, look at all those pots and buckets all over the place...
Rain leaks through the roof, which had been previously damaged by the landslide and monster attack.
Ceramic Artist: With all this wind and rain, I guess I won't be able to get back to my workshop...
Instrument Crafter: You should just stay here in the shelter with us tonight. You too, skyfarers.
Lyria: Thank you. Sorry to intrude.
(Captain) and the crew decide to nap in the shelter until morning.
Elta: (Everyone's awake... Even the kids got woken up from all the noise.)
Artist's Son: I'll put this one here...
Artist: What are you doing?
Artist's Son: I'm making a mosaic. I'm sticking pieces of glass onto this clay to make into a dish.
Artist: Quit playing around and get to sleep. What time do you think it is?
Artist's Son: I know, but I can't sleep.
Artist: Well, you'll never fall asleep if you keep messing with that thing. Lie down and close your eyes.
Artist's Son: Okay...
The boy wraps the clay in a damp cloth and curls up under a blanket.
Elta: ...
Artist's Son: Will you sing me a lullaby, Father? The sound of the rain is scaring me.
The man suddenly stops patting his son's head.
Artist: ...
Artist's Son: Where are you going?
Artist: To the bathroom. Go to sleep.
Artist's Son: Why won't he sing to me?
Elta: ...
Elta's heart aches as he hears the boy murmur sadly and roll over.
Caro: ...
Artist's Son: ...?
Elta: Caro?
Caro: Why don't you sing with me? You said this was like a lullaby to you, right, Elta?
Caro: I'm sure it would help calm down that boy. I'll accompany you.
Elta glances around to see the islanders looking his way.
Exhaustion is evident on all their faces. The mood in the shelter is heavy, completely different from how it had been earlier that day.
Elta: (They must have been forcing themselves to act cheerful while we were helping them earlier.)
Elta: (But they're actually exhausted and discouraged. There's only one thing I can do for them at a time like this...)
Caro: I believe in the power of art, Elta.
Caro: Art can truly make a difference at times like these. That's what I believe.
Elta: (How could I forget something so obvious? And I call myself a minstrel...)
Elta rises, his mind made up.
Selfira: Hang on, Elta!
Instrument Crafter: So Elta's gonna sing for us? Haha! Can't wait to hear it.
Ceramic Artist: We don't get this kind of chance every day, so let's move a bit closer. Come on, you too.
Musician: I'll pass. If you want to go, then go.
Elta: Hm?
Elta freezes upon overhearing the conversation.
Ceramic Artist: Wh-what's the matter? Didn't you say you loved Elta's songs?
Musician: I realized something when I went to wake up the skyfarers at the inn.
Musician: This is the only place affected by the disaster. People on other islands are going about their everyday lives, sleeping soundly without fearing the rain.
Musician: When I realized that I got incredibly angry. Why should we have to go through all this?
Ceramic Artist: That's just the way it is. This is where the disaster happened, after all.
Musician: Just the way it is? That's all you have to say?
Musician: You still have a place to go home to. Your workshop—the source of your livelihood—and all your creations are safe and sound.
Musician: I lost my home, reduced to living in a shelter. I'm running on fumes day after day.
Musician: Don't you find that unfair? I wish I still had a home where I could sleep the night away peacefully.
Ceramic Artist: Then why don't we all sing together. What do you say? I think it would cheer you up.
Instrument Crafter: Yeah, that's a great idea. Let's show our respect for Arte in song.
Musician: Enough! Will singing stop the rain? Will it bring my home back? Of course not!
Musician: Arte's not going to do anything... Art is useless at a time like this!
Caro: ...!
Caro: ...
That pain is back...
Instrument Crafter: Hey! Now you've gone too far!
Caro: Huff... Huff...
Musician: Caro? What's wrong with you all of a sudden?
Caro: Arte is worried about everyone on the island. Even now, he's doing what he can to encourage you all.
Caro: Songs and paintings won't bring back what you lost. They won't fill your stomachs.
Caro: Arte understands that much.
Caro: But are those the only things that matter? Art has always been so precious to you, but now it's suddenly useless?
Caro: Urgh...
Huff... Huff...
Musician: H-hey, what's wrong with you?
Caro: In the past you never would have said anything like that. Music was always dear to your hearts.
Caro: Arte wants you to sing happily like you used to!
Caro readies his instrument, as though desperately pleading with the islanders.
Elta: Caro...
Artist: You can't expect us to keep listening to this drivel.
Artist: Where does an outsider like you get off talking about Arte?
Caro: Urgh!
Caro: No!
My instrument... It's cracked...
Vyrn: Hey, what the heck are you doing? Don't you think you're getting carried away?
Artist: Humph! I'm sick of seeing those revolting paintings all over the place...
Artist: Get out! If you want to sing so badly, go do it somewhere else.
Lyria: Please don't say things like that! You see, Caro's—
Caro: Lyria!
Caro shouts as though scolding Lyria, and the previously noisy shelter suddenly falls silent.
Caro: Telling them won't change anything.
Lyria: Caro...
Caro: I'll leave... I'm sorry for raising my voice.
Caro retrieves his cracked instrument and staggers outside into the rain.
  1. Let's go after him.

Choose: Let's go after him.
Elta: Yes! And fast!
Caro: Huff... Huff...
Caro: U-urgh...
Lyria's Voice: Caro!
Lyria: Oh no! Are you feeling bad again?
Caro: Please... Take me to my studio...
Caro: I have a terrible pain in my chest, but I don't know why. It feels like it's being twisted in two.
Elta: Okay. You can lean on (Captain) and me.
(Captain) nods, and together the captain and Elta support Caro as they walk along.

Together in Song - Chapter 5: When It Rains, It Pours - Episode 2

After dropping Caro off at his studio to rest, the crew returns to the inn. Selfira confides in Elta, lamenting her inability to understand the feelings of the islanders. Afraid of hurting someone with her music, Selfira is unsure what to do, and Elta is unable to find the words to console her. As they wallow in their anxiety, they suddenly hear the sound of Niyon's harp.

Caro: Thank you... I think I'm all right now.
Caro reaches his studio and lies down on a comfy bed covered with a blanket.
Niyon: What happened?
Lyria: Niyon! What brings you here?
Caro: Niyon's been coming by from time to time to do research. Apparently there have been cases where primal beasts' powers have gone haywire, bringing on large-scale disasters.
Caro: As an Eternal, she told me she couldn't turn a blind eye to the situation once she found out.
Niyon: When I listen carefully, I can hear a strange sound within your melody...
Niyon: It feels as though you're struggling against someone who's forcefully stretching the string of an instrument... You keep fighting to keep the melody from going out of tune.
Caro: You always describe things in such a peculiar manner. I can't say I followed that completely.
Caro: Sorry... Could I ask you all to let me rest for a bit? I've been painting instead of sleeping for the past several nights.
Vyrn: Makes sense you'd be tired after all that painting. You sure you're not just sick 'cause you haven't been getting enough sleep?
Caro: Hehe. If that's the case, I'll be right as rain once I get some rest.
Caro: You all ought to go back to the inn and get some rest yourselves. It'd be hard for me to sleep with people watching anyway...
Elta: B-but...
Caro: Please... Let me be alone for a while.
Elta: All right.
Elta: If you need us, we'll be at the inn.
Caro: ...
Caro closes his eyes and rolls over on his side. But the distant sound of rain causes his eyes to snap back open.
Caro: Sigh... It's no use.
Caro: I could really use Elta's lullaby right about now.
After returning to the inn, (Captain) and the others start to get ready for bed while Selfira sits by the window, lost in thought.
Selfira: (I can't understand how the sound of rain would be scary...)
Selfira: (I don't understand how the islanders feel at all... Even though all I want to do is help...)
Elta: Um, Selfira? Something's bothering you, isn't it?
Selfira: Elta...
Elta: If you feel like talking about it, I'm all ears. It's the least I can do...
Elta: I'd like it if you'd confide in me. You seem really upset...
Selfira: Well... all right then.
Selfira tells Elta about all the concerns she's had since arriving on the island.
Selfira: I was just thinking that I don't really understand the pain the islanders are going through because of the disaster.
Selfira: The rain didn't bother me at all... But it should have been obvious that the sound of rain would remind them of that stormy night. I just never stopped to think about it...
Elta: I see... Sometimes it's confusing to learn just how deep someone's pain goes.
Elta: I never could have imagined being bothered by the sound of rain either...
Selfira: I was ashamed at myself for being shocked that a second disaster was happening.
Selfira: Some of the islanders are just so positive. They say that even if the road is blocked, all you have to do is clear it again... but I don't have that sort of resolve...
Selfira: It's pathetic for me to be this way when I'm the one who's supposed to be helping.
Elta: Well, I tried to keep working when I was told to fall back. That shows I wasn't taking the disaster seriously.
Elta: It's hard to fully understand what might happen after a disaster, or to understand how the islanders are feeling...
Elta: It's difficult trying to figure out the best way to interact with them...
Selfira: Hey, Elta... What made you suddenly want to sing earlier?
Selfira: Um... I'm only asking since I'm trying to figure out what I can do myself.
Elta: The reason I wanted to sing earlier?
Elta: Let's see...
Elta: I wanted to help that boy drift off into a peaceful slumber. Sleepless nights are tough...
Elta: While traveling as a minstrel, I've had people tell me that my songs cheered them up or calmed them down.
Elta: So I thought a song might be just what people need at a time like this. That's why I wanted to sing.
Selfira: What they need at a time like this, huh. Caro said the same thing.
Selfira: Everyone has something they believe in... But not me...
Selfira clenches her fists and lowers her gaze to the floor.
Elta: Um... Well, that's just one example...
Elta: Support comes in many forms. Whether you're singing or helping with the restoration efforts, there are people out there who will appreciate it.
Selfira: Many forms?
Elta: That's why I think you should figure out what it is that you want to do.
Elta: How do you want to make the people of the island happy?
Selfira: What I want to do, huh...
Selfira: (I think... I want to sing.)
Selfira: (But is it really okay for me to sing when there are people out there who might be hurt by my music?)
Selfira: (I don't want to act selfishly and end up hurting anyone, but I want to do something to help.)
Elta: ...
Selfira: (What should I do? Elta's waiting for my answer. I need to tell him what I want to do!)
Selfira: (But I can't seem to get my thoughts in order... I don't know what I want to do...)
Selfira: (What do I do?)
Selfira: (What do I do? What should I do?)
The more Selfira tries to think of an answer, the more panicked she becomes. Finally, a fierce look appears in her eyes.
Elta: Huh...
Selfira: Sorry. There's no reason to be like this. I have no right to cry when it's the people of this island who are suffering...
Selfira manages to catch her breath and fight back her tears, but her nose remains red.
Elta: Did I say something to hurt your feelings?
Selfira: No. I just don't know what it is that I want to do...
Selfira: I've gotten to where I'm scared that my music is going to spark a fight. I can't sing like you can...
Selfira: I don't want to hurt anyone, but I don't know how to keep from hurting them...
Elta: Selfira...
Selfira: I envy you and Caro. I wish I had something to believe in...
Elta: ...
Elta: (I have a feeling Selfira desperately wants to believe in the power of music. That's exactly why she's suffering...)
Elta: (But I have no right to tell her it's okay to sing... She's right—it's a complicated situation...)
Elta: (I want to be there to support Selfira... But what can I do for her?)
There are so many things that Elta wants to express to Selfira, but he becomes frustrated with himself for not being able to find the words.
The minutes tick by without either of them saying a word. Elta grows more and more impatient, when suddenly he hears a familiar sound.
Niyon: ...
The quiet melody of a harp echoes through the room, as though trying to gently lighten the heavy mood.

Together in Song - Chapter 5: When It Rains, It Pours - Episode 3

Elta and Selfira break down in tears as Niyon's mysterious melody touches their hearts. Elta admits that he clings to his belief in the power of music so he won't be overwhelmed by his fears. Upon learning that she and Elta share the same insecurities, Selfira realizes that she truly wants to believe in the power of music.

Niyon: ...
Elta: Niyon?
Without a word, Niyon begins strumming her harp. A mournful melody flows from her tiny fingertips.
Selfira: What song is that?
Elta: I don't know. It's quite a sorrowful tune...
Niyon: This is the melody flowing within the two of you right now. It's painful to hear, isn't it?
Niyon: But don't worry. All it needs is a bit of tuning...
Niyon continues playing quietly. The melody sounds dark and gloomy to (Captain), but it seems to have quite an effect on Elta and Selfira.
Elta: Urgh...
Selfira: Ah...
Selfira and Elta begin to sob uncontrollably.
Niyon is a crew member

Lyria: That must be thanks to Niyon's power. She can stir a person's emotions by matching her music to their heart.

Niyon not in crew

Vyrn: Wh-what's wrong with them?
Niyon: By listening to music that matches their hearts, the emotions lying deep within them are stirred. So powerfully that it's unbearable.
Lyria: Wow... Is that part of your power?
Continue 1
Selfira: There's nothing I can do... I'm too scared of hurting someone...
Selfira pours out her emotions, unable to keep them bottled up any longer.
Elta: It's no wonder you're scared...
Selfira: Huh?
Elta: I'm scared of making someone angry with my songs.
Elta: But I want to believe that my feelings will reach people. I'm always telling myself that everything will be okay...
Elta: Otherwise I wouldn't be able to sing... I'd be overwhelmed by my fear and be unable to do anything...
Selfira: Really?
Elta: And in the end I wasn't able to do anything to relieve Caro's pain...
Elta: I can't seem to do anything right...
Elta: Just having something to believe in doesn't magically make everything okay...
Elta: Sob... Urgh...
Selfira: Elta... Don't be so hard on yourself...
Niyon: The melody I'm playing represents sympathy toward someone. If it resonates with your heart, you may feel calm or excited.
Niyon: Otherwise you'll feel pain that you can't comprehend. The two of you are crying because of the same melody...
Niyon: Do you understand what that means?
Selfira: We feel the same way, Elta and I...
Selfira: We're both so anxious and worried...
Selfira: That's why we need something to put our trust in...
Niyon: Do you want to believe in the power of music? Try asking yourself one more time.
Selfira: Urgh... Ah...
Niyon guides them with her voice and harp. The emotions unleashed by the melody sweep away idle thoughts so they can focus clearly on a single one.
Selfira: I want to believe.
Selfira: I've been performing for so long... I'd love to be able to save someone with my music...
Selfira: But there are times when I hate it...
Selfira: I don't know if it's okay for me to sing when I can't understand how my audience is feeling...
Elta: Selfira...
Niyon: Good... You're finally in tune with your own heart.
Niyon: It's not the music's fault or your fault or anyone's fault, for that matter. Don't be so hard on yourself.
Selfira: Okay.
Niyon continues playing for a time. Elta and Selfira let their tears flow until they finally regain their composure.
Niyon: The end.
Selfira: Niyon... Thank you. Really.
Selfira: I was so discouraged thinking I was the only one with doubts. It's comforting to know I'm not alone.
Elta: I'd like to thank you too, Niyon. If it weren't for you, I never would have been able to express how I felt.
Elta: I doubt I could have ever comforted Selfira on my own... I'm really grateful.
Niyon: ...
Elta: A-are you okay?
Niyon: I'm tired. Time for me to withdraw.
Elta: I-I guess you would be tired after all that... Sorry for making you wear yourself out.
Niyon is a crew member

Niyon: It's fine.
Niyon: Hey, (Captain). Praise me.
  1. You did great.

Choose: You did great.
Niyon: Yeah, I guess I did.
Niyon: Good night.

Niyon: Good night.

Selfira: I want to believe in the power of music. That's how I really feel.
Selfira: But there's still something bothering me. You'd think I'd be able to understand my own feelings...
Elta: Figuring out how you really feel doesn't make things any less scary...
Elta: Don't push yourself too hard, Selfira. We both have our troubles.
Selfira: You're right.
The night stretches on, with the rain showing no signs of stopping.
Elta and Selfira remain alone with their thoughts as they quietly climb in bed and close their eyes.

Together in Song - Chapter 5: When It Rains, It Pours - Episode 4

Early the next morning, Caro thinks back upon his days spent with the islanders as he works to repair the artist's painting. Suddenly a monster appears, which transforms into Caro's broken instrument when it is defeated. Caro feels an intense pain in his chest as the artwork in his studio begins to vibrate eerily, and he grabs the mended painting and escapes from his studio.

As dawn approaches, Caro immerses himself in his work in order to drive the sleeplessness and loneliness from his mind.
Caro: (I managed to take care of the hole in the canvas. Now to cover it with some paint so it isn't as noticeable...)
Caro brings his brush—covered with magic paint—close to the canvas, but slowly lowers it before making contact.
Caro: This isn't right.
Searching his memory, Caro pulls down one of the wooden boxes stacked in the studio.
Caro: Found them!
Caro: Pigments, oil, and paint additive... My spatula and paint muller are here too.
Mixing oil paints—Caro first learned the technique from one of the islanders several hundred years before.
Islander 1: You want me to teach you how to paint?
Caro: Yeah. I was moved by the paintings of yours I saw hanging down at the port.
Caro: I've always had an interest in painting, but I didn't know where to start. Would you mind teaching me from square one?
Islander 1: You're an odd one, aren't you? Well, whatever. If you're going to paint, first you'll need to prep the oil paints.
Islander 2: Ooh, let me show him! That's okay, right, Papa?
Islander 2: Ack! That's too much oil! How many times do I have to tell you? It's going to ruin the color of the paint!
Caro: Hmm. This is tough. Show me how to do it one more time, Master!
Islander 1: How's it going? Is he getting the hang of it?
Islander 2: He's absolutely awful, Papa. And we haven't even tried anything hard yet.
Islander 1: Everyone's awful when they're first starting out. Practice makes perfect.
Caro: (Mix the oil with the additive and heat them up. Once the mixture's cooled, sprinkle in some of the pigment and mix thoroughly...)
Caro: (I remember everything you taught me. You were so young yet so talented.)
Islander 2: You're really leaving?
Caro: Yeah. I'm a traveler, so I don't stay in one place for long.
Islander 1: Be sure to drop by if you're ever in town again. Take care.
Islander 2: Urgh... Hic...
Caro: (I'll come see you again one day, Master. When you're old and grey and have completely forgotten about me.)
Caro: (Thinking back, I sure have had a lot of teachers in this town. When did I suddenly become the teacher?)
Caro: When you're grinding paints, you should move the paint muller in two circular motions.
Artist's Son: Like this?
Caro: Yeah, just like that.
Artist: Sorry, I'm not too great at teaching.
Artist's Son: Hey, Caro, where'd you learn to paint? Was your dad an artist or something?
Caro: I had a teacher, actually. She was still in training back then, but she went on to paint a number of famous works...
Caro: Okay, this should be enough paint.
Caro sets the artist's painting onto his easel and takes a bit of paint from his palette.
Caro: (It really is a lovely painting. Just looking at it warms my heart.)
Caro: Wow! This painting is beautiful!
Artist: It's a painting of a hill I used to go to with my wife before we got married. It don't think it's anything special, but my wife really likes it for some reason.
Artist's Son: I really like it too! You should hang it up somewhere instead of keeping it cooped up in the studio.
Artist: It's my painting. I can do whatever I want with it.
Artist's Son: You're just embarrassed! You always get a weird look on your face when you talk about Mother when she was younger.
Artist: Humph. Mind your own business!
Caro: Hehe...
Caro: (This painting brings back memories, doesn't it? That's why seeing it was so painful for you.)
Caro: (But you can't just throw it out. I just know you'll come to need it one day.)
Artist: Get out! If you want to sing so badly, go do it somewhere else.
Caro: Ow...
Caro: Urgh... These episodes are becoming more and more frequent.
Caro skillfully mixes the paints to create the perfect shade and brushes over the tear in the canvas.
Caro: (I suppose that will do for now. If the tear's still noticeable once the paint dries, I'll give it another coat.)
Monster: Grrr...
Caro: A monster!
Caro: Whew... I can't believe one of them made it all the way to my studio.
Caro approaches the fallen monster's body, but as he reaches down to move it outside, he gasps.
Caro: This is my broken instrument...
Caro: ...
What in the skies...
The countless paintings and statues filling the studio begin to shake violently in unison.
Caro: ...!
It... It hurts...
???: ...!
The colorful paint covering one of the canvases begins to dissolve and evaporate, turning into dark smoke.
The smoke envelops the canvas and lifts it into the air. It swirls as though alive, filling Caro with a sense of foreboding.
Caro: I have to... get away...
Caro grabs the mended painting off of the easel and half crawls out of the cave.

Together in Song - Chapter 6: Reversing the Distortion - Episode 1

The next day Niyon departs from the island in order to recruit help, sensing looming danger. (Captain) and the crew visit the shelter where they learn that the artist had been trying to destroy a painting while seemingly hallucinating. As the islanders are removing Caro's artwork from the shelter, the paintings and statues begin to vibrate and transform into monsters.

Niyon: He lost?
Niyon: (This is much more than just dissonance... The melody's changing completely.)
Niyon: (There's something wrong with his melody too. It feels unpleasant, just like the melody of the island.)
Niyon dashes outside, clutching her harp. Desperate to fulfill her duty as one of the Eternals, she starts to head toward the source of the strange melody but stops in her tracks.
Niyon: (No... My music alone won't be enough. I need their help.)
Having a revelation, Niyon boards a cargo ship docked at the port and speeds away from the island.
Vyrn: Harp Girl ran off again, huh.
Lyria: Is she investigating the island? She's been gone since early this morning.
Vyrn: Well, I guess she'll come back eventually.
???: Hey! Get me out of here!
Elta: ...!
That voice...
Ceramic Artist: Yes, it's that artist fellow. He started running riot before the sun came up, so we locked him up in the storeroom.
Selfira: You locked him up?
Ceramic Artist: It's not like we wanted to do it. But he was becoming so violent we didn't have a choice.
The woman gestures to a painting in the corner of the shelter. It lies in tatters from what appear to be wild knife slashes.
Elta: He did this?
Ceramic Artist: That's right. He was slashing it to pieces with a murderous look on his face.
Ceramic Artist: It seemed like he was having some sort of hallucination. He was screaming at something to go away and threatening to kill it...
Artist: Why couldn't you people see it? None of this makes any sense! Hey!
Lyria: I wonder what happened to him?
Elta: ...
Elta surveys the room to see the islanders removing the paintings from the walls of the shelter, one by one.
Elta: So that's why you're taking down the paintings...
Ceramic Artist: That's part of it. But ever since all that commotion yesterday, we haven't really been too keen on art as it is...
Ceramic Artist: We're running out of room for all these supplies anyway, so we thought we'd tidy up a bit.
The woman reaches over to remove one of Caro's paintings from the wall.
Selfira: Huh? Was that painting always so dull?
Elta: Now that you mention it... I feel like it used to be a lot more bright and colorful...
Lyria: There's something wrong with that painting. The warmth it had up until yesterday is all gone.
Lyria: It feels threatening, like something's planning to attack at any second. It's really scary.
Vyrn: Whaddya mean? Brush Boy's magic changed or something?
Ceramic Artist: Magic? What do you mean?
Artist: Huff... Huff...
Artist's Son: Huh? Father...
Instrument Crafter: Impossible... Are you telling me he managed to kick down that heavy storeroom door?
The man's eyes are bloodshot, his face twisted with rage. His gaze falls upon the painting in his son's hands.
Artist's Son: Eek!
Instrument Crafter: Hey! Get ahold of yourself, man!
Artist: Get out of my way! That thing's the enemy, not me!
Instrument Crafter: You're seeing things! That's just one of Caro's paintings!
Artist: It's real, I tell you! And it's aiming for my son! I have to do something!
Artist's Son: S-stop! Don't hurt the painting!
Artist: Let go! It's dangerous!
The man wrestles the painting away from his son and flings it across the room. It falls to the floor, where it begins to shake violently.
Vyrn: Wh-what the heck?
The crew and the islanders stare in shock as paint begins to drip off of the painting, from which a pair of tentacles appears.
The paint expands to swallow the canvas whole, transforming into a monster without a trace of the painting's original beauty. It glares at the boy with wicked eyes.
Artist's Son: Huh... What's happening?
Lyria: There are more of them coming... I feel the same presence rising up all over the island!
Monster: ...!
Monsters: ...!
Musician: Aaah...
Ceramic Artist: Stop! Get away!
The paintings and statues within the shelter are all enveloped by black smoke or thick liquid, turning into monsters.
Elta: Wh-what's going on? Who would do such a thing?
Vyrn: Save the questions for after we give these monsters a good whuppin'!

Together in Song - Chapter 6: Reversing the Distortion - Episode 2

Shocked to realize that the paintings and sculptures turning into monsters are all Caro's creations, the islanders begin to distrust Caro and decide to banish him from the island. The crew finds Caro as he is starting to lose control of his power, and he hands Elta the mended painting for safekeeping. The islanders catch up just as monsters attack.

Monsters: ...!
Vyrn: We managed to get rid of 'em somehow...
Lyria: But the paintings and sculptures were all destroyed in the process. It was the only way we could stop those monsters, but still...
Instrument Crafter: So it was true when you said the paintings looked like monsters...
Artist: Guess you finally decided to open your eyes.
After making sure all the artwork has been destroyed, the man calms down and looks around the room at the islanders.
Artist: We should take care of anything else that might attack while we have the chance. There are some others in town still, right?
Artist's Son: M-my mosaic's fine though.
Artist: You can keep that one. The works that turned into monsters were all Caro's.
Musician: You know, you're right...
Ceramic Artist: Listen, the skyfarers mentioned something about Caro using magic to create his paintings.
Ceramic Artist: Wouldn't it be reasonable to think that those paintings turned into monsters because of his magic?
Lyria: Let's not jump to conclusions! He just uses his magic to make paint. It's not a scary power or anything.
Musician: Actually, he calls himself a traveler, but apparently he hasn't been staying in any of the inns.
Musician: I hear he goes into the forest when night falls. Isn't that a bit strange, considering no one else dares to venture there because of all the monsters?
Musician: Maybe he pretends to be friendly, but he's actually some sort of monster. Why else would he go into the woods like that?
Elta: No! Caro wouldn't hurt a fly!
Musician: Then how come he's able to just leisurely stroll into a forest filled with monsters? I bet he's controlling them!
Artist: It all adds up. Maybe the giant monster that appeared the other day was his doing too.
Musician: Maybe he painted those paintings so fast and handed them out all over town so they'd attack us.
Ceramic Artist: I bet he was just biding his time, waiting until he had finished distributing all those monstrous creations of his.
Anxiousness gives rise to doubt, and hostility spreads among the islanders like a defense mechanism.
Artist: I'm going to drive him away...
Artist: Anyone else who wants to come along, follow me! The rest of you finish destroying his creations!
Selfira: How did it come to this? He wants to drive Caro away?
Artist's Son: Stop it! Caro would never attack us!
Artist's Son: Caro's a nice person. He always smiled when you talked about Mother.
Artist: I don't want to believe it, but that smile of his could have very well been fake.
Artist: We have to nip this in the bud. We can't allow there to be any lives lost!
Instrument Crafter: Yeah, let's comb the island and capture that bastard!
The islanders raise their voices in agreement and dash out of the shelter one after another.
Lyria: Wait! Please! There's a reason Caro went into the forest.
Elta: This doesn't look good. They're not in any state to listen to reason right now!
Selfira: Lyria, can you sense Caro's location? If we find him first, we might be able to protect him!
Lyria: I-I'll do my best!
Lyria: ...!
Vyrn: How's it looking?
Lyria: He's coming this way... But something's wrong. I have a bad feeling about this!
Elta: Let's find him! Quick! There's no time to talk.
Caro: Huff.. Huff...
Caro staggers along the road toward the shelter, clutching the mended painting.
Lyria: There he is! Caro!
Caro: Oh... (Captain)... Everyone...
Elta: This is bad! He's covered in sweat and shaking all over!
Caro: My chest has been throbbing with pain...
Face twisted in anguish, Caro hands the painting to Elta.
Caro: Take this painting. I didn't use my magic paint on it, so it won't turn into a monster...
Elta: Turn into a monster? So your magic really was behind all this?
Caro: Seems that way... My studio's in a right state because of it...
Lyria: When I was searching for your presence earlier, it felt like you were about to lose control...
Lyria: I think the reason those things are turning into monsters might be because you can't control your power anymore.
Caro: Losing control, huh... Sounds like something I'd rather avoid...
Having succeeded in entrusting the painting to Elta, Caro crumples to the ground, exhausted.
Caro: Huff... Huff...
Caro: Okay, leave me be. I don't want to get you all caught up in this mess...
Elta: We can't just leave you! Let's find a safe place for you to rest!
Artist: There he is! Over there!
Selfira: Oh no, they spotted him!
Monsters: ...!
Vyrn: We don't have time to deal with you blasted monsters! Let's take 'em out quick, (Captain)!

Together in Song - Chapter 6: Reversing the Distortion - Episode 3

Niyon requests the orchestra's help in order to save Perfetto Island. Meanwhile back on the island, Caro is captured by the artist who tells him that paintings have all appeared distorted to him ever since he lost his wife. Realizing that the paintings started turning into monsters because he and the rest of the islanders started to view them as harmful, Caro begins acting strangely.

Meanwhile Nobiyo and Narita enjoy a relaxing break in a restaurant on an island elsewhere.
Narita: That was a fine performance, if I do say so myself. There's still a day before our next concert, so let's get some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
Nobiyo: You're right. We've had a packed schedule ever since that relief concert.
Nobiyo: You know, I noticed this restaurant has a piano. Why don't you play us a tune?
Narita: I-I can't do that. I'm going to get in trouble if I touch the shop's property without asking.
Niyon: Narita.
Narita: Niyon! What brings you to this island?
Niyon: We need your help. Something terrible is happening on Perfetto Island.
Narita: I'm sorry. You're going to have to be more specific...
Niyon: The melody of the island's primal beast is in need of tuning. But my music alone isn't enough.
Niyon: I'd like your orchestra to accompany my harp.
Nobiyo: Well, we can't exactly refuse a request from one of the Eternals.
Nobiyo: We'll leave immediately! Narita, you gather all the people who can go.
Narita: Of course!
(Captain) and the crew defeat the monsters, but the islanders seize the opportunity to take Caro captive.
Elta: L-let Caro go! He never intended for any of this to happen!
Artist: Those monsters you just fought spawned from his creations. How can you claim he's not behind all of this?
The artist pulls a knife from his pocket and presses the blade to Caro's throat, his hand trembling slightly.
Artist: Tell your monster friends to withdraw this instant. Cooperate, and we'll spare your life.
Caro: Haha... I can tell you're not used to threatening people.
Caro: Please don't point that dangerous thing at me. What exactly do you plan to do if I really start rampaging?
Artist: Cool as a cucumber, aren't you? I don't think you understand the situation you're in.
Vyrn: You're the ones who don't understand the situation!
Lyria: Caro is actually Arte! He can't control his power anymore, so it's making his creations turn into monsters!
Artist: Arte? What are you going on about?
Caro: Guess I can't hide it any longer... What a disaster...
Caro looks up at the man with a pleading expression on his face.
Caro: Tell me... Is it impossible for a guardian deity to become one of the islanders, no matter how hard he pretends to be a person?
Caro: I've never left this island, and yet I'm still an outsider? Is that why I'm unable to understand how you feel?
Caro: Was your guardian Arte—was art itself—truly useless in the end?
Artist: Humph... You've lost your mind.
Artist: If you want me to answer your questions, first answer mine!
Artist: I've always appreciated art out of love and respect for Arte.
Artist: But art stole something precious from me. The moment I saw my wife's tattered painting, I was filled with nothing but regret...
Artist: To hell with Arte... To hell with art...
Artist: If it wasn't for them, our family could have made it through this together!
Caro: I'm so sorry... If it hadn't been for that painting...
Artist: I just can't enjoy art anymore. Sometimes when I see paintings these days, they appear warped and distorted...
Artist: And now they're even turning into monsters... Your magic is tearing our hearts to pieces!
Caro: They look... distorted? Monsters... Distortion...
Caro: Oh... I see... So that's what this is all about...
Weak with exhaustion, Caro collapses against the artist.
Elta: Caro! Stay with us!
Monsters: ...!
Musician: Look out! Another one turned into a monster!
Artist: Enough! Keep this up and there'll be hell to pay!
Caro: You've got it all wrong... You're the ones who are causing the paintings to turn into monsters...
Artist: Huh? We're causing this?
Caro: You thought of the paintings as the source of your misfortune, so they started to look like monsters to you. And when I came to believe it too, they actually turned into monsters...
Caro: I mean... If my creations hurt others, doesn't that make them just as bad as monsters?
Caro: Concerts are worthless... I'd rather just have a hot meal...
Artist: ...!
Caro's strange demeanor strikes fear into the man's heart. He instinctively tosses Caro away and steps backward.
Selfira: Hey... That sounded awfully familiar...
Elta: That's what that man said to you...
Caro: I want to sleep peacefully... I don't want to fear the rain...
Vyrn: Hey, what's wrong with him? He's just repeating stuff the islanders have said before.
Elta: W-well, let's go over to him! They've let him go, so...

Together in Song - Chapter 6: Reversing the Distortion - Episode 4

Niyon and the orchestra members arrive on the island. Niyon explains that Caro had been subconsciously twisting his own magic in order to prevent the paintings from turning into monsters. Niyon begins playing her harp in an attempt to return Caro back to normal, but it's too late and Caro loses control. The islanders assist (Captain) and the others in suppressing Caro.

Elta: Caro, snap out of it!
Caro: Worthless... Worthless...
Selfira: It's no use... He won't respond to anything we say...
Vyrn: What's wrong with him? Can he not see us?
Lyria: He may have lost sight of himself. His presence feels really unstable...
Lyria: It's lost its brightness, as if it has soaked up all the sadness permeating through the entire island.
???: Correct. The mournful melody of the people has flowed into him and changed his heart.
Lyria: Niyon! Nobiyo, Novei, and the others too!
Nobiyo: We rushed here at Niyon's request.
Narita: She has something to tell your crew, (Captain). Will you hear her out?
Niyon: I'd like you all to help us calm down the primal beast.
Elta: Of course we will!
Elta: But do you know what's happened to him?
Niyon: His magic causes his creations to appear differently to each person who sees them...
Niyon: Logically, those who hate paintings see them as warped and twisted. So much so that there's not a shred of beauty left in them.
Niyon: He's been distorting his own magic in order to maintain their original form and prevent them from appearing distorted to that man... And subconsciously at that.
Selfira: That artist did mention earlier that paintings look distorted to him sometimes...
Niyon: I think that's because of the magic cast on the paintings. The man's hatred is so strong that it causes the paintings to twist and distort.
Niyon: It must have been incredibly painful having to restore the paintings, only to have them be twisted again. It's only natural that his power would start acting strangely.
Elta: I see... If Caro hadn't intervened, that artist would have long since gone around destroying all the paintings...
Lyria: Caro's so kind... He's been pushing himself just to protect that man...
Caro: To hell with Arte... To hell with art...
Selfira: So he took all that distortion upon himself, and now he's basically a personification of all the negative feelings of the islanders...
Selfira: Can't we do anything to help him? How can we turn him back to normal?
Niyon: His melody is buried in dissonance... but I can still hear it—ever so faintly.
Niyon: With some tuning we can revert the distortion of his heart, though it's a gamble.
Niyon: Even if I try to reach him with my melody, the foreign emotions within him may interfere.
Niyon: If we don't do this right, he could end up going berserk...
Elta: ...
Niyon is a crew member

Niyon: Please, (Captain). Lend me your help until I can pinpoint his melody...

(Captain) nods vigorously. They distance themselves from Caro, preparing themselves for the worst.
Niyon: Okay, here I go.
Niyon: If you will.
Novei and the other musicians begin to play along with Niyon, following her lead.
Caro: Aah... Augh...
Caro: Urgh... Aaaugh...
Niyon: ...
Caro: It...
Caro: It hurt! It was hard! I was in pain! I was lonely! I was scared!
Caro: I wanted to protect them... I couldn't protect them!
Caro: Aaahh!
Arte: Grrr...
Musician: That form... It's the same one I saw in an old painting...
Artist: What in the skies... I can't believe he really was Arte...
Selfira: He... went berserk...
Lyria: He was enduring the pain for so long... He pushed himself too hard...
Vyrn: We don't have time to sit around being sad! We gotta stop him!
Monsters: ...!
Elta: We've got a problem! Caro's rampage is attracting a bunch of monsters!
Vyrn: Looks like we gotta fight our way through!
Instrument Crafter: This is our punishment for blaspheming the great Arte...
Ceramic Artist: We're so sorry, Arte... Please grant us your forgiveness...
Elta: ...
Elta: Please lift your heads! Caro isn't blaming you!
Ceramic Artist: ...!
Elta: Even when you destroyed the paintings or flung them away, Caro only ever responded with concern for the people of the island.
Elta: He never resented or hated you. He loves you all from the bottom of his heart.
Artist: Arte... Caro...
Artist: That's right... He always had a kind smile on his face, and he never shied away from me, no matter how rude I was.
Artist: He wasn't the type to get angry or place blame on others. Even now he's just full of regret that he couldn't protect us...
Musician: Yes... Caro has done so much for us. He's given us courage in our darkest hour.
Instrument Crafter: Yeah... I bet it would hurt him to hear us say this is Arte's punishment...
Artist: Hey, you're going to save Caro, right? Isn't there anything we can do to help?
Artist: Although... There's not much we can do besides keep the monsters at bay for a short while.
Elta: That would be wonderful!
Selfira: (You're amazing, Elta...)
Monsters: ...!
Selfira: (I need to do something too!)
Selfira begins to play, and the melody composed to put even Midgardsormr to sleep causes the monsters to come to a halt.
Selfira: Now!
Artist: Right! All right, everyone. It's time to protect Caro and this island!
Islanders: Yeah!
The islanders shove aside the monsters who have been slowed by Selfira's performance.
Thus a path is cleared, and (Captain) and the crew at last confront the rampaging Caro.
Arte: Grrr...
Selfira: No turning back now...
Elta: I'll play with everything I've got.
Elta: Let's talk about the music we love so much, just like we did that one night!
Selfira: We won't let you suffer any longer... We'll save you!
Arte: Aaahh!

Together in Song - Ending

Everyone feels a sense of relief as Caro's rampage comes to an end, but it turns out that he must sleep for hundreds of years in order for his frail body to recover. They join together to sing Caro's favorite song as he drifts off to sleep. The following day the islanders tell the crew that they will be all right on their own, so (Captain) and the crew decide to return to their journey.

Caro: ...
After a fierce battle, (Captain) and the crew succeed in suppressing Caro.
Lyria: I'll relieve you of the power that's making you suffer, Caro...
Lyria absorbs Caro's power, causing his rampage to come to an end, as well as breaking the monster-spawning curse on his creations.
Caro: Thank you, Lyria. Everyone...
Caro: I'm sorry for scaring you. I'm so, so sorry.
Vyrn: It's all good! We're used to fighting primal beasts!
Lyria: I'm so glad you're back to your old self! You are too, right, (Captain)?
Caro: Hehe. I was no match for your crew after the amazing journey you've been on.
Niyon: (It doesn't seem like he'll lose control again, but there's something that concerns me...)
Caro: ...!
Elta: A-are you okay?
Caro: I suddenly feel incredibly weak... I wonder why? I can't seem to keep my eyes open...
Lyria: Maybe you just wore yourself out. Why don't you go back to your studio and rest?
Caro: No... I don't think this is anything that's going to be solved by resting...
Caro: Long ago... Who was it again?
Caro: Someone told me my body is like fragile glass.
Caro: They said it takes a long time for my injuries to mend... And if I ever rampaged to the point of exhaustion, I'd probably fall asleep for hundreds of years...
Selfira: No! If you fall asleep, you'll never see these islanders again...
Caro: Correct... How could this have happened? I've made a mistake I can't take back...
Caro: The island will still have the protection of a primal beast even while I'm asleep, but I won't have time to relieve everyone's fears...
Caro desperately tries to stand, but his body won't listen to him, and he ends up collapsing on the ground.
Lyria: Caro...
Caro: I'm sorry. It doesn't look like I'll be able to give you my piece of the Sky Map... I wanted to help you on your journey...
Lyria: Don't worry about that... If only we'd figured out the cause of your condition sooner...
Caro: What was the point of all this?
Caro: Even if I hadn't been around, the people of this island would have been able to get back on their feet all on their own...
Caro: Maybe I just wanted to feel needed. I'm a failure of a guardian deity...
Elta: ...
Caro sighs. Hearing his words, the islanders begin to speak.
Musician: We did need you... Your songs and paintings gave us endless encouragement.
Ceramic Artist: She's right. Your paintings cheered me up every time I saw them hanging up around the island.
Instrument Crafter: And we still didn't trust you... We were so stupid.
Caro: I don't blame you. It's true that I'm not a normal person. And my paintings turning into monsters must have been terrifying.
Artist: You're far too kind for your own good...
Artist: You have every right to be angry with us... especially me. There's no excuse for the way I treated you.
Artist: Just because I'm miserable, that doesn't give me the right to hurt those around me. I forgot something so obvious...
Caro: I'm not angry... There's no way I could be angry...
Caro: I've been watching you all for so long. I know everything about you...
Artist: Well, you are Arte, after all.
Artist: I'm proud to have been blessed to call you a friend.
Caro: Hehe... I don't deserve such... kind words...
Artist: Don't worry. You can sleep peacefully... We'll protect this island until you awaken. You have our word.
Artist: You'll come back to this town again when you wake up, won't you?
Artist: As Caro...
Caro: Yeah... I'll... do that...
Unable to fight off the overwhelming drowsiness any longer, Caro closes his eyes and falls silent.
Elta: ...
The islanders are thoroughly shaken. Elta covers his face, unable to hold back the emotions welling up inside him.
Elta: Sob... Urgh...
Selfira: Is there really nothing we can do but watch? We'll never see him again!
Artist: Let's sing the song he loved so much. I think it went something like this...
Artist: ...
The man begins to quietly sing the melody that Caro sang to himself night after night as he painted.
Ceramic Artist: Yes. We all know that song.
Instrument Crafter: Let's sing.
Instrument Crafter: Whaddya say?
Musician: Could we get someone to accompany us? Our instruments are all back at the shelter.
Elta: I'll do it... It would be an honor.
Artist: We couldn't have asked for anyone better. Don't let us down now.
Firmly wiping away his tears, Elta moves to the center of the group and readies his instrument.
Selfira: We're all going to sing together, right? In that case, the accompaniment ought to be a lot grander.
Elta: Selfira!
Niyon: You all follow my lead.
Novei: Of course.
The Two: ...
Islanders: ...
The islanders begin to sing along with the musicians' accompaniment.
Gratitude, respect, love, friendship—they pour their emotions into every note as they unite their voices in song.
Caro: (I can hear singing... It's beautiful...)
Caro: (I want to sing along... if even just a little.)
Too weary to even open his eyes, Caro uses the last of his strength to join in with the islanders.
Caro: (Thank you... Bravo...)
Elta: ...
Caro falls asleep, fading into light. But the music carries on.
They continue to lift their voices together in song.
The following morning the villagers gather in the town square to begin work on a shrine dedicated to Caro.
Elta: It sounds like the shrine's going to be quite grand. If Caro saw it, I bet he'd get embarrassed and argue that he didn't deserve anything that special.
Musician: Haha. That sounds like something he'd do. But this is also meant to be a warning for ourselves.
Musician: It will be a constant reminder to live each day to the fullest, never forgetting our love and respect for Arte. So we don't repeat the same mistakes.
Selfira: In that case, the grander the better.
Musician: We plan to put a statue of Caro in the town square as well. He promised to come back to the town when he wakes up after all.
Musician: We need to make sure our descendants know what he looks like so they'll recognize him!
Elta: A statue, huh... I guess Caro doesn't need to call himself a traveler any longer.
Nobiyo: Ah, here you are.
Elta: Nobiyo! And the rest of the orchestra...
Novei: I apologize for not greeting you sooner. The truth is, we came to this island at Niyon's request.
Robertina: We were lucky it was right in between performances.
Cecile: We need to be on our way soon, so we can't linger much longer.
Nobiyo: I wanted to speak with you before we left, Elta.
Elta: M-me?
Nobiyo: You seem to have a very strong will. I was very impressed by your words, attitude, and actions.
Nobiyo: As long as there's a courageous young man like you around, the arts will never fade away.
Elta: That was just me getting caught up in the heat of the moment. I got a bit carried away...
Nobiyo: Really? I think that's just who you are.
Nobiyo: And Selfira, that was a splendid performance. I hope you'll continue to gain experience and hone those senses of yours.
Selfira: I-I will... It makes me so happy to hear you say that.
Artist's Son: Look, everyone! We fixed Caro's instrument!
Elta: Oh, that's wonderful! I'm sure Caro will be delighted!
Artist: We needed something to offer at the shrine.
Artist: Though there's still a blemish on the instrument we can't get out...
Nobiyo: Hmm... Would you mind if I took a look at it?
Nobiyo: Oh, what splendid repair work. I think the sound quality will be just like it was before.
Deeply interested, Nobiyo takes the instrument into his hands with a gentle smile on his face.
Nobiyo: It's true that the mark may be visible to the trained eye. But that doesn't make it a blemish.
Nobiyo: I see it as part of your history. Clashing and reconciling, until you found what was important to you.
Nobiyo: Looking at it that way, that mark holds a lot of meaning for the people of this island, wouldn't you say?
Artist: A part of our history...
The man traces his finger down the faintly visible crack as though pondering Nobiyo's words.
Elta: (Each and every one of Nobiyo's words carries a tremendous amount of weight. I have a long way to go.)
Narita: Everyone, it's just about time for us to depart.
Pamela: Is it that time already? I hope this won't be our last meeting, (Captain).
Augusta: We'll get Narita to send you info about our performances, so make sure to come see us again!
The Sky Philharmonic Orchestra members make their way toward the port, waving as they go.
Elta: Oh, right! Here...
Elta takes out the painting Caro had given him and holds it out to the artist.
Elta: Caro fixed it. Won't you take it?
Artist: My painting... I'll have to hang this up where everyone will see it.
Elta: ...!
That would be wonderful!
Instrument Crafter: That reminds me... How much longer are you skyfarers planning to stay on this island?
Lyria: Um... We haven't decided yet.
Ceramic Artist: We've finished cleaning up thanks to you, so I think we can handle the rest ourselves. Why don't you all get back to your journey?
Niyon: The dissonance has died down a lot. Everything should be all right now.
Lyria: Niyon! I guess you're right.
Niyon not in crew

Niyon: Where will you be going next, (Captain)?
Vyrn: Oh, are you gonna come with us? If you're not going too far, we'll let you hitch a ride.
Niyon: No. Not yet, but someday.
Niyon: (Captain)... Even in that hopeless situation, your melody didn't get distorted. I've taken an interest in you.
Niyon: I'm rather fond of the melody that flows within you.
With those parting words, Niyon makes her departure.
Vyrn: Sounds like you've got yourself a fan, (Captain).
Vyrn: Guess it's time for us to get a move-on too!

Niyon is a crew member

Niyon: We can finally go back to the ship.
Niyon: I can still hear the dissonance in my head. I want to use your beautiful melody to make it go away.
Niyon glides over and puts her ear to (Captain)'s heart.
Niyon: That's better.
Elta: (She has quite a soft spot for (Captain)...)
Vyrn: Then if everybody's ready, let's get going!
Continue 1
Selfira: I'm looking forward to seeing what kinds of adventures are waiting for us out there.
Elta: Me too! I'm sure we'll get to meet a lot of new people.
Niyon: (Even though you're asleep, you continue to sing... What a warm, pleasant melody.)
Even when faced with hardships, the people of Perfetto Island—the island of art—steadily pick themselves up and keep moving forward.
Elta and Selfira look down the paths that lay before them, keeping in mind the experiences they had on the island.
They continue on their journey, seeking to discover their purpose as musicians.
