The stolid vice-commander of the Shinsengumi. He is possessive of a strong sense of justice and has little sympathy for wrongdoing. He has earned the nickname "Demonic Vice-Commander," as both terrorists and his fellow officers fear him with sword drawn. He is a heavy smoker and loves mayonnaise. He is often targeted by Sogo Okita, who wishes to take his title. Despite this, they often find themselves working together and hold a mutual respect for each other's ability.
