Act 2: Dawning Sky - Chapter 64: Night of Reflection - Episode 1

After defeating the Erste Empire and the Black Knight, the crew returns to (Captain)'s hometown of Zinkenstill where they are treated to a hearty welcome. They settle in for the night and listen to Rosetta's explanation on Sky Map pieces. A slight misunderstanding causes an irritated Io to storm off to her room. The crew members spend the night thinking about what they'll do from here forward.

Io: Humph.
Rackam: Hoo...
Lyria: Ah, heh heh... Heh...
Villager 1: Come now! How 'bout some more? We've got plenty of food!
Lyria: Sure! I'll have some more! How about you, Io?
Io: Humph!
Lyria: Oh boy...
Eugen: Look now... This is gettin' to be a real pain.
Katalina: Goodness... This isn't going away anytime soon, either.
Rosetta: But I do understand what's going on. And it's very important, after all.
Lecia: Sooner or later, it must be dealt with.
Vyrn: Good grief... What are we gonna do?
Welcomed into the home of a villager, (Captain) and company sit surrounded by a smorgasbord of food.
Despite the feast laid out before them, Io is pouting and clearly unhappy.
Rackam: Look, Io... I didn't mean anything by it. So could you just... let it go?
Io: Humph!
It seems the problem can be traced back to a few hours ago...
(Captain) and company had foiled Prime Minister Freesia's plans in Agastia.
And in Mephorash, they had settled the score with the Black Knight once and for all.
Then, the crew went to visit (Captain)'s hometown of Zinkenstill in order to assure everyone that (Captain) is doing okay.
Upon their arrival, a crowd of villagers gathered to welcome (Captain) and company.
Villager 1: I heard all about it! You took down the empire, right?
Villager 2: I'm just glad you're alright. We're so happy to have you back, (Captain)!
Villager 3: You leaving the village caused a huge ruckus, but it's good to see you so doing so well.
Villager 4: Well, considering who your father is, it's no surprise you made it through.
Villager 5: Come! Let's have a celebration today!
Villager 5: There's not much to look at, but please enjoy yourselves in our village.
In celebrating (Captain)'s return, the villagers treated the crew to heaps of wonderful dishes.
Lyria: Mmm mmm! This is delicious!
Lyria: I guess you'd call this a taste of home, (Captain)!
Vyrn: To us, this is the best tasting food we've ever known! Right, (Captain)?
Eugen: This'll go well with some wine, I bet. Should've brought myself a few good bottles from Auguste.
Io: The food here's different from anything I've had. On Valtz or anywhere else.
Villager 2: Isn't it, though? The island's small, but we grow some rare veggies here.
Villager 6: Anyways, to think you've gone off and captained a crew of fine skyfarers...
Villager 6: (Captain) has really grown up!
Rackam: Haha! You're makin' us blush with all that flattery.
Katalina: Indeed, looking back to when I first met him, the captain has surely grown since then.
Rosetta: That can only mean the journey was quite an arduous one.
Rosetta: And even so, you saw it through to the end. As I suspected, (Captain) is no ordinary skydweller.
Everyone enjoyed the party well into the night.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, Lecia posed a question to the crew.
Lecia: Now that I think about it... What do (Captain) and you all plan to do after this?
Eugen: Of course we're gonna drink till the sun comes up! Amiright? Hey!
Villager 1: Ha ha ha ha! We've got lots to talk about through the night!
Io: Guess those two are hitting it off pretty well.
Lecia: Well... that's not exactly what I meant.
Lecia: (Captain), are you headed somewhere else on your journey after this?
Lecia: Or are you going to set up a post somewhere and respond to calls for crews?
  1. We're going to Estalucia.
  2. We're going to find my father.

Choose: We're going to Estalucia.
Lecia: You're going to Estalucia?
Vyrn: Wait, didn't we tell you? A long time ago, we got a letter from (Captain)'s father.
Vyrn: And it said, "I'll be waiting for you in Estalucia, the island of the Astrals."
Vyrn: Ever since then, it's been (Captain)'s dream to go to Estalucia!

Choose: We're going to find my father.
Lecia: I see... Didn't (Captain)'s father go off to Estalucia?
Vyrn: Yep! That's why we're headed there to meet him!
Continue 1
Lecia: I understand. So that's the reasoning behind (Captain)'s journey, huh?
Lecia: But going to the island of the Astrals is not so easy, you know.
Vyrn: Heh heh heh! But we've got a bunch of map pieces to guide us there!
Lyria: That's right! It's... these things, right?
Lyria carefully pulls the precious pieces from her bag and spreads them onto the table.
Lecia: So these are map pieces... I've never seen them in person before.
Rackam: But, these map pieces are pretty mysterious, you know.
Rackam: I was sure they'd be some scraps of paper from a map torn apart.
Io: Now that you mention it... How do you use these, exactly?
Io takes a piece and holds it up to the light, staring curiously.
Io: Doesn't look like anything's written inside.
Vyrn: But I've seen your father use the map pieces before!
Vyrn: He had even more pieces than we have now.
Vyrn: When you put them together, there's like a "pow" and the shapes magically unfold!
Lecia: A "pow"?
Io: What's that even mean? Now I'm even more confused.
Katalina: Well alright. We all know that the Astrals left behind more questions than answers.
Katalina: But what are map pieces in the first place? And why do primal beasts possess them?
Katalina: The more you think on it, the more mysterious it all becomes. If only we had a sliver of information... Wait, hold on a second!
Lyria: What's wrong, Katalina?
Katalina: That's it! Primal beasts! Rosetta, don't you know something about map pieces?
Katalina: Don't tell me... You actually possess one as a primal beast?
Rosetta: ...
Everyone looks to Rosetta, eager for her answer, but she shakes her head.
Rosetta: The pieces of the Sky Map... One of the legacies left behind by the Astrals.
Rosetta: Although their primary purpose and even their true name have been lost...
Rosetta: It's widely known that primal beasts, who were abandoned just the same, possess these pieces.
Rosetta: Unfortunately, I don't have one.
Rosetta: Not all primal beasts have a map piece, you see.
Eugen: So what you're sayin' is we'll have to go around to every primal beast till we get all the pieces?
Rosetta: Don't worry. Of course there's no need for that.
Rosetta: Primal beasts with map pieces all have one thing in common.
Io: Something in common? Like, they're big and strong?
Rosetta: Unfortunately, you're wrong. The correct answer is that the primal beast has formed a pact with the island.
Lecia: A pact with the island... Now that you mention it, we'd heard something like that back on Lumacie.
Rosetta: Right. You have a pretty good memory!
Rosetta: Just like her... Like Yggdrasil, primal beasts can form pacts with their islands.
Rosetta: Those who form pacts become the divine protector of the island and can bring out its true power.
Rosetta: Not only that, but its power as a guardian can greatly affect the island.
Rackam: I gotcha. So Tiamat's protection accounts for the wind in Port Breeze, huh?
Eugen: And the seas of Auguste are tied to Leviathan... Well, it makes sense!
Katalina: But, what about Luminiera's power on Albion?
Rosetta: Of course, there are a few exceptions.
Rosetta: Nevertheless, each primal beast with a map piece has a powerful connection to its island.
Rosetta: I once settled down in Lumacie for a while...
Rosetta: But my time was too short. I wasn't allowed to have a map piece for myself.
Vyrn: So that means, we just gotta look for islands under the influence of a primal beast aura!
Rosetta: But at the same time, it means we must come face-to-face with primal beasts to collect map pieces.
Rosetta: Even without the empire on our tails, there's surely danger in reaching for the ends of the skies.
Rosetta: I'd appreciate if you keep that in mind as we go forward.
Everyone seems to gulp at hearing Rosetta's firm warning.
The situation seems pretty tense, but then Rackam decides to try to lighten the mood.
Rackam: But... I mean, you know...
Rackam: Now that you mention danger, maybe it's about time the kiddies take a step back, eh?
Io: !
Io: Are you saying I should go back to Valtz?
Rackam: Huh? No, I mean...
Io: Humph!
Io: Rackam, you're saying you just want me to leave the crew?
Rackam: No, that's not it. After all, the empire's fallen, right?
Rackam: Don't you think they got what they deserved for what happened in Valtz?
Io: Well yeah, but...
Rackam: Then why keep pushing yourself down a dangerous journey?
Io: !
Io: Why would you say that! You blockhead!
Rackam: Hey! Oy!
Lyria: Io...
Io runs away, but no one goes to stop her. An awkward silence falls over the group.
Katalina: ...
Lecia: I suppose it's all true... The Erste Empire really is gone...
Lecia: Prime Minister Freesia, the one who had been pulling the strings, probably won't be showing her face again.
Lecia: And Loki, that self-proclaimed emperor, has gone off somewhere and disappeared.
Rosetta: You're right... That's why now's the time to reaffirm our commitment to this journey.
  1. I won't force you to go.
  2. It's up to you to decide.

Choose: I won't force you to go.
Eugen: Ho ho! By golly... If you'd just ask us, you know what we'd say!
Eugen: But, each of us might need some time to think about it, eh?
With that, (Captain) and company part ways and go to the rooms that the villagers have prepared for them.

Choose: It's up to you to decide.
Rackam: You're right... Just because we're not on the run anymore doesn't mean it's easy sailing from here.
Rackam: We've gotta steel ourselves for the monsters and primal beasts we'll come across in our travels.
With that, (Captain) and company part ways and go to the rooms that the villagers have prepared for them.
Continue 2
And on this quiet night, they look within themselves for the resolve and the will to move forward.

Act 2: Dawning Sky - Chapter 64: Night of Reflection - Episode 2

The night that (Captain) and company are treated to a hearty welcome by the villagers, Rosetta walks in on Eugen maintaining his rifle. Rosetta asks him what he will do now that the Erste Empire and Black Knight have been defeated. A downcast Eugen tells of his disillusionment. Rosetta offers Eugen a suggestion, giving him newfound determination.

Eugen: ...
With a set of tools laid out before him, Eugen looks over his trusty rifle in silence.
His face is stern, as if he's trying to shake off the worries on his mind.
A shadow appears behind him.
Rosetta: You seem very focused. I guess when you use a gun long enough, you grow attached to it.
Eugen turns to the voice, and then shrugs.
Eugen: Look, I know you like to pop in and out of places, but could you knock?
Rosetta: Oh dear. My apologies. The door was open and when I saw you...
Rosetta: ...you seemed lonely somehow.
Eugen: Ha ha ha. So you're worried about this old man, eh?
Eugen: I wouldn't say I'm lonely, but... well...
Eugen shifts his eyes hesitantly, and Rosetta poses a question.
Rosetta: Well... What do you plan to do?
Eugen: What do you mean? Whether I'll stay on this journey or not?
Rosetta: Yes. I'm curious about you, since you no longer have Erste or the Black Knight to worry about.
Eugen: Heh heh. That's a pretty impressive trick you did there. Reading my mind, huh?
Rosetta: You know I can't do that. But it's not hard to figure out.
Eugen: Well... I began this journey after I met (Captain).
Eugen: And I thought that I needed to settle things with Apollo... as a father.
Eugen: But it turned out that... She'd already settled things in her own way.
Eugen: When I think on it, it's as if... a hole's opened up.
As Eugen speaks, his face appears shadowed and spiritless.
Eugen: I keep thinking about it. I came on this trip to chase my past.
Rosetta: Then it's simple. Just continue down this path and chase your future.
Eugen: Hey there now! That's easier said than done!
Eugen: Are you tellin' me I should hold on to my dream, as old as I am now?
Rosetta: Come now... I'm much older than you, don't you think?
Rosetta: If you think yourself old and feeble, now what does that make me?
Eugen: Ho ho ho! Well, you've got me there!
Eugen, in better spirits, poses a question to Rosetta this time.
Eugen: But what about you, Rosetta? What'll you do?
Eugen: Are you going off with (Captain) to the island of the Astrals?
Rosetta: Yes... I want to see this through to the end.
Rosetta: The captain is that man's child. And he left a message for us to come and find him, after all.
Rosetta: I've grown so curious about this crew. Even if they're tossed around, they keep challenging the world.
Rosetta stares off into the distance as she thinks about the young man from her past.
Rosetta: Regardless of the goal, if we're headed for Estalucia, a harsh journey awaits.
Rosetta: I just couldn't let it go without saying anything.
Rosetta smiles, and Eugen decides to share his concerns.
Eugen: You knew (Captain)'s father, and you know this is going to get dangerous, but you won't try to stop (Captain)?
Rosetta: You think a captain like that would listen? Like father like child.
Rosetta: Rather, compared to him, that child is on a much more realistic path, I believe.
Rosetta: That man was rashness and recklessness incarnate.
Eugen: The more I hear 'bout him, the more (Captain)'s father sounds like a rough guy.
Rosetta: Yes... But he was able to accomplish his quest by choosing everything for himself.
Rosetta: What will you do? You're the only one who can choose.
At Rosetta's words, Eugen expression grows stern once again.
Eugen: Well, what do you think? You think I should keep going?
Rosetta: I think you should do whatever you desire.
Rosetta: Besides, even if you're younger than I am, you're still much too old to be satisfied with just doing what you're told!
Eugen: Ha ha... You got me again, eh?
Rosetta gives a mischievous smile as she leaves the room.
Eugen holds his trusty rifle in his hands, which has seen him through many close scrapes before. He begins to mutter.
Eugen: Do whatever I desire...
Eugen reflects on the path he has walked thus far.
And in a flash, new hope and determination flicker in his eyes.

Act 2: Dawning Sky - Chapter 64: Night of Reflection - Episode 3

The night that (Captain) and company are treated to a hearty welcome by the villagers, (Captain) discusses with Lyria, Vyrn, Katalina, and Lecia about what they should do on their journey ahead. Lyria and Vyrn wish to continue their journey to discover their true identities, and Katalina swears an oath to continue protecting Lyria. Lecia too, clumsy as she may be, acknowledges her longing to continue traveling with the crew.

In another room, (Captain), Lyria, Vyrn, Katalina, and Lecia sit in a circle talking about the journey ahead.
Katalina begins to sum up everyone's situations.
Katalina: We have a choice here, but...
Katalina: Since we're no longer wanted by the empire, there's no need to journey beyond the skydom.
Katalina: Lyria, if you want, we can leave and go live somewhere in peace.
Lyria: ...
Vyrn: In peace, huh? That could be really nice! But we'd be a little lonely.
Lecia: But there are plenty of skyfarers who live in one place, too.
Katalina: What do you think, Lyria?
With everyone's eyes on her, Lyria opens her mouth with firm determination.
Lyria: I want to... keep traveling with (Captain).
Lyria: I mean, if it's okay with (Captain) of course...
  1. Of course it's okay.
  2. It'll be dangerous.

Choose: Of course it's okay.
Vyrn: You've been with us all along! Of course we want you around!
Lyria: Thank you, Vyrn... (Captain).

Choose: It'll be dangerous.
Lyria: I know... I know it might get even tougher up ahead.
Lyria: And I can help fight if I borrow a little power from the primal beasts.
Lyria: No matter what, I want to be by your side, (Captain).
Continue 1
Katalina: Well, I guess there was no need to ask.
Lyria: Katalina, did you want to leave?
Katalina: Of course not! I owe a lot to (Captain), and I'd like to continue on.
Katalina: However, you're the one I pledged to protect, Lyria.
Lyria: Katalina...
Lyria: But... But there's no more Erste Empire.
Lyria: No one's after you anymore, Katalina. You've no reason to run.
Katalina: In all honesty, I've decided out of my own volition, Lyria.
Katalina: And I promised, didn't I? I promised I'd show you an endless world.
Katalina: That was not an order from the empire. It was my promise to you.
Katalina: I protect you because I want to. I'm with you because I want to be. Isn't that enough?
Hearing Katalina's words, Lyria smiles in relief.
Lyria: I see. Thank you, Katalina.
Lyria: You're right. That's enough for me...
Lyria mutters softly, and then looks to (Captain).
Lyria: I want to be by your side, (Captain), from now on. I want to be where you are, (Captain).
Lyria: And I also must go to the island of the Astrals... to the ends of the skies.
Lecia: Lyria, you have a reason to go to Estalucia too?
Katalina: That's right. On that island, there may be a way to sever the link connecting (Captain) and Lyria's lives.
Lyria: There's that, but there's one more thing...
Lyria nods in response to Lecia and begins to speak.
Lyria: You know, that one time, I saw something when Akasha was activated.
Katalina: You saw something? You're kidding!
Lyria: I saw... a record of my own past. I thought there might be answers within Akasha, so...
Vyrn: So...? What were they?
Vyrn presses for the answer, but Lyria's expression turns dreary as she shakes her head.
Lyria: I don't know... at all.
Lecia: Huh? But Akasha holds the records of everything in this world.
Lyria: She's supposed to... But she had no past records of me.
Katalina: What does that mean?
  1. Maybe she was broken.
  2. Maybe you're from another world?

Choose: Maybe she was broken.
Katalina: That's unlikely.
Katalina: Indeed, Akasha was specially activated by Freesia.
Katalina: But still, we were able to use Akasha to successfully release Freesia from her pledge.
Katalina: We saw no malfunctions, which means the cause must lie elsewhere.
Lyria: I think that maybe... I was born somewhere that Akasha has no record of.

Choose: Maybe you're from another world?
Lecia: You mean, Akasha's reach is limited only to things existing in this world?
Lecia: But then that would mean... Lyria is...
Continue 2
Vyrn: So... That means Lyria was born outside the sky? On the island of the Astrals?
Katalina: But the Black Knight had said that Lyria was certainly not an Astral.
Vyrn: But! Then she said that she's not a skydweller either, right?
Lyria: I don't know if we can find the answer right now.
Lyria: That's why... I want to keep going. So I can find out for myself.
Lyria: All the answers can surely be found at the ends of the skies.
Vyrn: Heh heh! You're just like me, Lyria!
Lyria: Huh? Just like you, Vyrn?
Lyria listens wide-eyed as Vyrn continues.
Vyrn: I'm not sure just what I am. So I hope to find answers about my true self on this journey!
Vyrn: I ain't no lizard... But, what am I?
Vyrn: To be honest, I'm not sure.
Vyrn: I always thought it was fine not knowing. No matter what I am, (Captain) is with me.
Vyrn: If my memories are sealed, then leave 'em be, I thought.
Vyrn: But that just won't do anymore!
Vyrn gets fired up, and makes a small fist as he speaks.
Vyrn: Once your power and memories are released, there's no turning back.
Vyrn: I dunno why he sealed my power and memories...
Vyrn: ...but I know I'll regret it if I don't try to find out.
Vyrn: That's why I'm also on this journey to search for myself!
Lyria: Vyrn...
Lecia watches Lyria smile at Vyrn, before breaking her silence.
Lecia: It seems Vyrn, Lyria, and Katalina have no doubt in their hearts about moving forward.
Vyrn: You betcha! How about you, Lecia?
Lecia: Huh? Me?
Lyria: Yeah! You're a dear friend to us after all!
Lecia: !
Lecia: I uh...
Lecia: I would like... to travel for a little longer with you and the crew, (Captain).
Lecia: Ah! But! I'll still be a member of the Crew of Enforcers.
Lecia: It's just, through this journey, there's still so much I'd like to learn from you.
Vyrn: Heh heh! If you wanna come with us, you're welcome aboard! Right, (Captain)?
(Captain) nods happily in agreement.
Lecia: (Captain)...
Lecia feels an ease come over her at (Captain)'s reassuring smile.
However, that foreboding line from her father's journal still remains in the back of her mind.

Act 2: Dawning Sky - Chapter 64: Night of Reflection - Episode 4

The night that (Captain) and company are treated to a hearty welcome by the villagers, Rackam visits an upset Io in her room. While Rackam reveals his wishes to continue the journey, it turns out Io has yet to find a reason to stay. Believing strongly in Io's potential, Rackam gives her harsh but solid advice.

Io: ...
Io sits on the bed with a serious look on her face.
Suddenly, there's a knock at the door that echoes throughout the quiet room.
Io: Who is it?
Rackam: Hey, uh... I just wanted to say... I'm sorry about what happened.
Io: Leave.
Io pushes Rackam out of the room, and places her hands against the door.
Rackam: Hold on! You left in the middle of dinner, didn't you?
Rackam: So I... thought you might be hungry.
Rackam shows her a plate of different foods he's brought for her.
Io: Humph...
Io, acknowledging his effort, wordlessly invites him in.
Io: ...
Rackam: I'm sorry. I guess you're still angry.
Rackam: But I wasn't trying to say you should go back to Valtz.
Rackam: I mean... There's no need for you to get tangled up in this. I'm sorry.
Io: Why are you apologizing?
Rackam: Huh? What do you mean, why?
Io: I felt like you were abandoning me, in spite of all we've been through together.
Io: I mean... what you're saying isn't wrong.
Io: But I... I can't think of a reason to keep traveling with everyone.
Io: The empire I chose to fight is gone now.
Io: I have no reason to keep going, but I want to be with everyone.
Io: And it's... It's not fair!
Io balls her hands into fists as she holds back her tears.
Rackam: Io...
Io: Well, Rackam. I wonder what I should do.
Rackam: ...
Io: What'll you do? Will you keep going?
Rackam: Yeah... Well, if I'm gone, there's no way (Captain) will fly that airship.
Rackam: And I want to take the Grandcypher as far as she'll go.
Rackam: Honestly, I'm not sure if it'll make it beyond the sky.
Rackam: But we won't know if we don't try. I guess that's the pilot in me!
Rackam: I've got amazing friends and an amazing airship. If I don't try everything I can, I'll regret it.
Io: That's your reason?
Rackam: You know, pilots and skyfarers are kind of alike.
Rackam: Those who fly high will always love pushing their limits.
Io: Oh...
Io: I guess, I feel the same.
Rackam: Well, that's not for me to say.
Rackam: The journey from here on is gonna get dangerous, just like Rosetta said.
Rackam: When push comes to shove, will you have the same resolve you've got now?
Io: Hmm...
Rackam: There are all sorts of folks in the sky. And everyone's holding onto different things.
Rackam: But those who risk their lives up there, whatever they hold, it'll stay with them to the end.
Rackam: The worst that happens is, the reason you left only ends up as a footnote in some book somewhere.
Rackam: Don't force yourself to find a reason. Just take your time to think.
Io: ...
With that piece of advice, Rackam leaves the room.
Rackam: Hoo...
Rosetta: That was pretty cold, wasn't it?
Rackam: Woah! Rosetta... You startled me.
Rosetta: I was worried about Io, but when I went to see her, you two seemed deep in conversation.
Rosetta: I just couldn't quite jump in, you see.
Rackam: Hey now... Were you listening in? On all of it?
Rosetta: Yes. I wonder why you'd say something so threatening.
Rackam: I didn't mean it that way. All of that was the honest truth.
Rackam: A footnote in some book somewhere. There's no guarantee we won't become that.
Rackam: She might be a kid, but she's got a good head on her shoulders.
Rackam: I know, because I've been by her side during this journey.
Rackam: I won't look down on her and sugarcoat the truth.
Rosetta: I see. And I agree.
Rosetta: But could you be sweeter? Io is a clever young girl indeed, but she's still a young girl.
Rackam: Alright alright...
Rackam absently waves his hand as he walks away.
In her room, Io continues to struggle with her feelings as the morning grows closer.
