My Beloved Auguste - Opening

Meg, a girl from a remote island in the Phantagrande Skydom, dreamed for years of visiting Auguste. Having toiled away at a local cafe to save up for the trip, she is ready to make her dream come true and boards an Auguste-bound air cruise liner.

An air cruise liner is moored at the port of a small, nondescript island situated in Phantagrande.
Packed with passengers and sailors, the ship is set to take off soon.
Light, airy footsteps accompany the appearance of a petite figure rushing in from town.
Meg: No, no, no! I'm gonna be late!
Meg: Hey, I'm getting on that ship too! Wait for me!
The girl wildly waves her arms at the cruise liner.
Meg: Meg here! Just your ordinary girl born on this ordinary island!
Meg: Fortunately today's a not so ordinary day.
Meg eagerly shows her ticket to an attendant and boards the ship.
Meg: Because I'm finally taking the trip to Auguste that I've dreamt of forever!
Auguste, the destination of this cruise liner, is an archipelago renowned for its very special beaches.
Meg: Of course, you can't talk about Auguste without mentioning its rep as a famous resort!
Meg: I took a job at the local cafe to save up for this trip. And all my hard work's finally going to pay off!
Sailor: Will you be traveling alone, miss? You came here in such a mad rush...
Meg: Ah, sorry about that. I was so excited about today that I barely got any sleep last night. Ehehe...
Sailor: I see... This'll be your first visit to Auguste?
Meg: Mm-hm!
Meg: Every girl dreams of having the vacation of their lives in Auguste.
Meg: I mean, even all my friends are dying to go. But it looks like I'll be first to see that dream come true!
Meg: Ehehe, I didn't tell any of my friends about this. Can't wait to surprise them with my new tan...
Sailor: Sounds like you're in for a good time.
Meg's lips curl into a triumphant smile as she pictures the envious faces of her friends back home.
Confident that her vacation will be absolutely incredible, she spends the next two and half days in a euphoric mood.
Sailor: Miss, Auguste's come into view. See that island right there?
Meg: Whoa! That's Auguste?
Meg: Look at all that blue... Is that water?
Sailor: Yep. That's all ocean, all right.
Meg: The ocean...
Meg: Wow... It's amazing!
Meg: (I've heard plenty of talk about it and seen it in paintings, but this is my first time actually seeing the ocean in person!)
Her heart thumps with excitement at the breathtaking view.
One unforgettable vacation is about to unfold.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 1: Meg of the Blue Sea - Episode 1

Meg's first stop in Auguste is the beach. The sight of the blue seas and white sand nearly moves her to tears. While taking in the wondrous spectacle among other tourists, someone calls out to her from behind.

Meg steps out into the aquatic city of Mizarea, capital of the Auguste Isles.
The strange yet fascinating new culture here is immediately apparent. Unsurprisingly, it's not her hotel reservation that she checks on first.
Meg: Blue seas!
Meg: White sand!
Meg: And azure skies!
Meg: The beach...
Meg: It's the ocean!
Her outburst draws a host of odd looks from nearby beachgoers. But Meg pays them no heed, her eyes glittering with wonder.
Meg: (Aahhh! It's so beautiful!)
Meg: (I can't believe I'm actually seeing this with my own two eyes...)
Meg: There's so many people here, and it's not even a festival... I wonder if they're tourists like me.
Meg: Somehow everyone looks extra classy just by being in Auguste.
Meg: Wait... Could it be? Do I also look extra cool to everyone?
Meg: (Does that mean boys might try to flirt with me? The thought alone makes my heart beat faster...)
And that's when someone calls out to Meg from behind, breaking her train of thought.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 1: Meg of the Blue Sea - Episode 2

Meg bumps into her childhood friend Mari in Auguste, who teases her for coming alone. Feeling dismayed, Meg runs off to the hotel to check in and wins a free tour of Yudhisthira Island for being the establishment's one millionth customer.

???: That you, Meg? What brings you all the way out here?
Meg: Mari! What are you doing in Auguste!
Mari: Hey, I asked first.
Meg: Right, sorry... I'm here on vacation. I just got off the airship.
Mari: Alone?
Pshh, you're too much! I came with my sweetie-poo.
With a chuckle, Mari turns to the man standing beside her.
Mari: Margaret here's a friend back home. But we call her Meg for short.
Mari's Boyfriend: Sup, Meg. Nice to meetcha.
Meg: H-hello...
Mari: Even when we were kids, she used to talk about Auguste aaaall the time.
Mari: I sure didn't expect her to come alone though.
Meg: (Sigh... I didn't expect to see you here either, Mari...)
Meg: This is Marilyn. Though we usually call her Mari. We've hung out together since we were kids.
Meg: Unlike me, she's the charismatic leader type among our group of friends, and she brings all the boys to the yard.
Meg: She tends to come off a bit strong, which is one thing that the oft-unnoticed me isn't a big fan of.
Mari: You sure went out of your way to keep this a secret from us. Didn't you?
Meg: Huh? What do you mean?
Mari: You were planning on bragging about your Auguste vacation to everyone later, weren't you?
Mari: Then you'd be able to bask in our white-hot jealousy.
Meg: Th-that's not true! (How'd you know...)
Meg: Besides... You didn't tell anyone about coming to Auguste either... Am I right?
Mari: Psh... What I do in my own time is my business.
Meg: What the... (Talk about double standards!)
As if already bored conversing with Meg, Mari turns back to her boyfriend.
Mari: Babe, would you believe Meg's waiting for her Prince Charming?
Mari's Boyfriend: Yeah? Tell me about it.
Mari: She's into blondes with clear eyes who look moody and, hear this, stand for all that's righteous.
Mari's Boyfriend: Pfft... Haha! Your friend knows exactly what she wants!
Mari: Seriously! I know her wish list like the back of my hand after all the times she's told me!
Meg: Ahaha... You're embarrassing me, Mari...
Meg: I just remembered I still have to check into the hotel! Catch you guys later.
Meg turns on her heel and takes off, leaving the couple behind.
Meg: Meh... This sucks... I intentionally came to this resort alone hoping it'd be a life-changing experience...
Meg: (Stay positive, Meg! I'm in the Auguste of my dreams! This is no time to be feeling down!)
Managing to cheer herself up, Meg rings the bell on the hotel reception desk.
???: Hello there. What can I do for you?
Meg: Um... I reserved a room under the name Margaret...
Hotelier: Ah, yes. We've been awaiting your arrival, Margaret. I am the proprietor of this establishment.
Meg: Er, thank you... I'm looking forward to staying here. Please call me Meg.
Hotelier: You must be weary after making such a long trip, but there is something I must inform you of first...
Meg: Huh?
A host of employees bearing party poppers and flowers spring forth and surround Meg.
Meg: What in the... What did I do!
Hotelier: Congratulations, Meg, on being our one millionth customer! What a momentous occasion this is!
Meg: Whaaaat? I-I can't believe it...
Her eyes flutter in astonishment as the staff and other hotel guests give her a big round of applause. The proprietor hands her a giant ticket.
Hotelier: As the grand prize winner of our Thanks-a-Million promotion...
Hotelier: You've earned yourself a special all-expenses-paid tour of Yudhisthira Island—a retreat well known for its incredible seafood!
Meg: Eeeep!
Hotelier: The tour comes with room and board. You're free to use the ticket any time you'd like!
Meg: (No way! How is it even possible to be this lucky!)
Meg: (I've heard about Yudhisthira Island—there was a whole spread about it in the travel guide!)
Meg takes a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking up.
Meg: I-is it okay if I redeem the ticket right away?
The girl nearly corners the proprietor against the reception desk in her excitement, with the Meg-sized ticket clutched in both arms.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 1: Meg of the Blue Sea - Episode 3

Meg has a fantastic time on the beaches of Yudhisthira Island and ends the day with a delightful seafood dinner. Just as she begins to doze off, she hears voices coming from outside.

Meg: Wow... I'm actually on Yudhisthira Island!
Yudhisthira is known for its fishing community and the bountiful seafood available.
Meg: Whoo! As if that weren't enough, I even get a whole cottage to myself and all the food I could possibly want!
Meg: (I was hoping to vacation on Mizarea, but since Mari's there...)
Meg: I'll manage! A change of plans is all part of the fun!
Meg: To be completely honest, being dunked on by Mari earlier got me more motivated than ever to prove myself.
Meg: I could really go for a swim right now! Let's see how well all my practice in the rivers back home works in the Auguste waters!
Meg: Whoo!
An excited Meg runs barefoot onto the beach for the first time in her life.
She quickly takes a liking to this new environment.
Exhausted from a day of swimming, Meg fills her empty stomach with a deluxe course of seafood cuisine before collapsing on a sofa.
Meg: Mng... My tummy's all full... The food was so delicious, I couldn't help myself. It can't be good for my waistline though...
The soft murmur of the ocean waves outside helps to offset the fatigue she feels as she dozes off.
???: Over there! Found it!
Meg: Huh? Who could that be?
Meg is awoken by the sudden commotion outside, an omen of things to come.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 1: Meg of the Blue Sea - Episode 4

Suspecting that there must be a festival going on outside, Meg steps out of her cottage. The horror of a giant fish battling a group of distant figures knocks her out cold. She stays cooped up indoors for the remainder of her vacation.

???: We should go too!
???: Yeah, we've got this!
Meg: Huh? What could possibly be going on out there?
Anxiety overtakes Meg as she listens to the clamor outside. But then she comes to a realization.
Meg: Could it be...
Meg: A festival for the night?
Meg: (Of course it is! This is a resort after all!)
Meg: Let's go have a peek. Maybe I'll join in too.
Meg steps outside to find a giant object before her very eyes.
???: ...
Meg: Huh? What's this? Was this here before?
Puzzled as to what it could possibly be, she rubs her hands across it out of curiosity.
Meg: ...?
As her eyes adjust to the darkness, the shape and features of the "object" become evident.
???: ...!
Meg: Eyaaaaagh!
???: Sig, it went that way!
???: Thanks, leave it to me!
???: ...
???: Take thiiiiiis!
???: ...!
Meg: Bwuh-whuh-zuh?
???: Yeah! We did it!
???: Good going, Sig!
Meg has just witnessed a suspicious group fighting off what appeared to be a giant fish.
Meg: Whaaaat...
Shocked by something so unworldly happening before her very eyes...
Meg faints on the spot.
Meg comes to learn that the giant fish was an Albacore, but that knowledge does little to allay her fears.
For the remainder of this vacation, Meg—paralyzed with fear—stays cooped up indoors until the day of her return home.
Sailor: Well, if it isn't the plucky miss from a few days ago! How'd you enjoy Auguste?
Meg: ...
Sailor: Hm? Miss?
Meg: Fear the Albacore, fear the Albacore, fear the Albacore...
Hotelier: Er, this guest ran into a bit of trouble on Yudhisthira Island. She hasn't been the same since...
Sailor: Yeah? What a shame... She was really looking forward to this.
Hotelier: Yes, it's rather unfortunate. I hope you'll see to her safe return home.
Meg: Fear the Albacore, fear the Albacore, fear the Albacore...
The proprietor leaves Meg in the sailor's care, then gets off the airship and returns to port.
Meg clutches her knees in a corner and mumbles to herself as the cruise liner takes off for her home.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 2: Balmy Breeze and Bubbly Meg - Episode 1

Shrugging off the previous year's incident as a bad dream, Meg takes an air cruise liner to Auguste once more and is determined to make this vacation count.

Meg: Recap time!
Meg: I worked my butt off at the local cafe and saved up enough money for a trip to Auguste!
Meg: It was a dream come true to see the sun shining on the white sandy beach and vast blue ocean with my own two eyes!
Meg: So I tried to leave my cottage, and you know what happened? "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Giant friggin' fish!"
Meg: Boy, was that a total bombshell!
Meg: I kinda remember seeing a bunch of people with it, but... Who knows! Repressed memories are fun, haha!
Meg: Aaanyway, my vacay ended on a not-so-high note... Sniff...
Exactly one year has passed since Meg's trip to Auguste. An air cruise liner is moored at the port, just like it was back then.
A figure rushes in from town, huffing and puffing.
Meg: No, no, no! I'm gonna be late!
Meg: Hey, I'm getting on that ship too! Wait for me!
Meg: I'm Meg, quite possibly the most upbeat, energetic girl to ever visit Auguste two years in a row!
Meg: "Again?" you're probably wondering, to which I respond with a "heck yeah!"
Meg: What happened last year was just a bad dream! After all, whoever heard of fish hanging out on land!
Meg: Whatever the case, I'm gonna have a fabulously good time this year for sure!
With Meg on board, the airship takes off for Auguste.
How her vacation will pan out this time remains to be seen.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 2: Balmy Breeze and Bubbly Meg - Episode 2

The hotelier offers Meg a free trip to a Venera Beach resort to make up for what happened last year. A Harvin named Sierokarte works as a concierge and invites Meg to her beach house. After some time observing the establishment's strange waitstaff, who happen to be members of some skyfarer crew, Meg goes outside only to be hit on by a playboy.

Hotelier: Meg! Come on in! What a pleasure it is to see you again!
Meg: Likewise, Mr. Proprietor. It's been a while.
Hotelier: After what happened last year, I was afraid you'd given up on coming to Auguste for good...
Meg: Last... year?
Meg: Urgh, no...
Beset by a sudden headache, Meg clutches her head with both hands.
Hotelier: A-are you okay?
Meg: Yeah, I'll be fine! Just shaking off this airsickness, is all!
Hotelier: I'm sorry I didn't notice... Just to be safe, it might be better to have you stay in our central building...
Hotelier: Truth be told, I had prepared a special travel plan for you, but perhaps we should refrain from that if you're not feeling well.
Meg: What do you mean?
Hotelier: As the one who presented you with the ticket for last year's Yudhisthira Island tour, I bear some responsibility for what happened.
Hotelier: I offer you my sincerest apologies. As our one millionth customer, you deserved better.
Hotelier: To make amends, I had intended to invite you to stay at our Venera Beach cottage...
Meg: V-Venera Beach? That's one of Auguste's prime locations!
Hotelier: Indeed, it is. I'd hoped you would be able to take pleasure in all that Venera Beach has to offer.
Hotelier: But your health should take utmost priority. Allow me to find you a room here instead—
Meg: I'll go! Venera Beach sounds like a blast! I'm all better now!
Hotelier: Well, that certainly is a relief! Very well, the details for getting there are all written here.
Hotelier: A concierge we've partnered with will be waiting for you there.
Hotelier: If you have any questions or concerns at Venera Beach, that concierge will be able to help you.
And so, Meg sets out for one of the finest locations in the Auguste Isles.
Though she's brimming with excitement, what awaits her upon arrival is a small, childlike figure.
???: Why, hello there! You must be Meg.
Meg: Huh? Are you the concierge? Um, Sear... Searo...
Sierokarte: Mm-hm, Sierokarte, at your service. The hotel you're staying with and I have a business partnership.
Meg: Um... Where are your mom and dad?
Sierokarte: Haha. I might not look it, but I'm definitely older than you.
Meg: Wait, let me guess... You're a Harvin?
Meg: I'm sorry if that came off as rude... It's just that we don't have any Harvins where I'm from...
Sierokarte: No worries! This is your first time seeing a Harvin in person then?
Meg: Hm, I dunno... I came to Auguste last year too... Might've... spotted a few...
Meg: Ngh, sorry! I get a headache whenever anything about my last visit comes up...
Sierokarte: Hey, no need to push yourself. I heard from the proprietor what a harrowing experience it was.
Meg: By the way, you mentioned a business partnership... Do you run your own business?
Sierokarte: Uh-huh, I run a little operation called the Knickknack Shack. And this year, I've decided to open up my own beach house here.
Meg: Wow, a beach house. This is my first time seeing one! It's a great place you have!
Sierokarte: All food and drinks are on the house. You're free to pull oysters from any serving tray, but make sure you don't pull any mussels.
Meg: Huh?
Sierokarte: Pull a mussel... Teehee...
Sierokarte: Well then, please make yourself at home.
As if a cottage in this fantastic location weren't enough, Meg is also free to use the beach house as she pleases.
She orders a few small dishes and relishes every bite. Despite the incredibly fortunate situation Meg finds herself in, something doesn't quite feel right.
Meg: ...
Meg: (I can't put my finger on it, but something really stands out about the staff here...)
Meg: (They're all so polite, but that look in their eyes scares me... Could they be gangsters?)
Though the beach house is bustling with activity, Meg pays particular attention to the waitstaff, partly due to her having no one to talk to.
Meg: Um... Sierokarte? Can I bug you for a moment?
Sierokarte: Of course you can! How's everything going, Meg?
Meg: The workers here seem really... unique, if that makes sense. It got me wondering if they might do something else for a living...
Sierokarte: Mm-hm, you guess right. They're all members of a skyfaring crew.
Meg: A skyfarer crew?
Sierokarte: They're regulars at my Knickknack Shack. They were kind enough to help out here for a while.
A blue-haired staffer walks past them.
Blue-Haired Helper: Your blazing skewers are ready!
Meg: Blazing skewers?
Um...
Staffer?: Hey, Lyria! Didn't this lady ask for juice?
Meg: Aiiee!
Blue-Haired Helper: Oh no! I got the order wrong! I-I'm so sorry!
Staffer?: Our bad, miss! Feel free to kick back and relax! Here's your juice!
Meg: Uh... Thanks... (I can't believe a lizard just brought me juice!)
Overwhelmed by the very distinct staffers, Meg guzzles down her juice and steps outside to the beach.
Meg: Whew... Auguste is really something else with all sorts of people... and non-people.
Meg, who has come out for some fresh air, is approached by someone from behind.
Playboy: What's up. You out here by yourself?
Meg: Uh, yeah...
Playboy: Now we're talkin'! Care to go on a date with me?
Meg: Erm... (I-is he flirting with me?)
Meg: (This is a first for me! Talk about the Auguste effect! But...)
Playboy: Whaddya say?
Meg: (He's not exactly my type... He's not blonde and far from polite...)
Meg: Um, I'm sorry, but I think I'll pass!
Playboy: Aw, don't be a spoilsport! C'mon with me to the beach house down there!
The playboy forcefully grabs Meg by the arm and drags her along.
Meg: Ouch... Let go of me! There's a weird lizard in that beach house, so I'd rather not—
The man ignores her pleas. Seeing this, a passerby promptly rises to action.
???: You. Stop right there.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 2: Balmy Breeze and Bubbly Meg - Episode 3

A woman named Anila drives away the obnoxious playboy. Meg becomes fast friends with her, making the vacation that much more pleasant.

???: Yawn... I was having such a great nap too...
???: Being roused by this disgusting display of chauvinism has really ruined my day.
The half-asleep woman effortlessly brushes the man's arm away from Meg.
Playboy: Whoo! I think I've hit the jackpot!
???: Huh?
Playboy: Babe, let me show you a good time! Just the two of us!
Meg: Wha? (What about me?)
The man immediately forgets about Meg and tries to put an arm over the woman's shoulders.
???: Hands off, creep!
Playboy: Yeeoowch!
Hearing his wrist crack, the man lets out a painful shriek.
???: A callous, insensitive boor who tramples over their partner's feelings and immediately chases after someone else is absolute trash.
Playboy: P-please, lemme go!
Seeing a tiny hint of remorse in the playboy, the woman unhands him.
???: What you need more than a girlfriend is some manners. Shall I beat some into you?
Playboy: Rgh! You'll regret this one day!
???: Haha, I certainly will not. In fact, I bet I'll have forgotten it after a good night's rest.
With the playboy gone, the woman turns to Meg.
???: Are you hurt?
Meg: Uh, I'm okay! Thank you so much! It was my first time being hit on, and I didn't know how to respond...
???: Oh, it's quite all right. I needed to let off some steam anyhow, after having my blissful snooze interrupted.
???: I'm Anila, by the way. Is there anyone else with you?
Meg: I'm Meg. I came to Auguste by myself. How about you?
Anila: I'm here on vacation with friends, but I ended up having to do a few favors for an acquaintance. I was on my break just now.
Meg: (She's so strong, beautiful, and confident...)
Meg: (Wouldn't it be cool if I could be like her someday...)
Anila: Hm? You're giving me an extremely curious look... Is there something on my face?
Meg: Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to stare!
Anila: Now that I've had a better look into your eyes, I see a shine about you.
Meg: A shine?
Anila: Yes, I sense a strong light radiating from within you. Our meeting here may very well have been kismet.
Meg: Kismet? Um, I'm not sure I understand...
Anila: Oh, please don't let it worry you. For now, you can think of my words as a mere jest.
Anila lies back down on the sandy beach and enjoys a pleasant chat with Meg before falling asleep.
Meg, on the other hand...
Meg: (I'm so lucky to make new friends here! It's like my world is getting bigger! What a vacation this is turning out to be!)
Although she did run into some trouble, Meg's first day in Auguste ends on a positive note.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 2: Balmy Breeze and Bubbly Meg - Episode 4

While taking a stroll along a deserted beach, Meg spots Anila and her crewmates battling a giant fish. Meg tries to run away, only to be confronted by another giant fish. She's fed up with Auguste, which is her final thought before she faints.

Meg: Wow! It's so beautiful over here too!
Meg: With so few people around, I could probably use this space as my own private beach!
Partly to make up for the misfortune she experienced in the previous year, Meg is taking great delight in her seaside stroll...
Unaware that she is about to run into some familiar faces.
???: It went that way!
???: Please be careful, Anila!
???: Leave it to me!
Meg: That voice... Isn't that Anila?
Anila: Haha! You put up a good fight!
Meg: (I knew it! Maybe I'll get a chance to chat with her today too!)
Meg: Aniilaaa!
Meg steps out from the shadow of a boulder to greet her new friend.
???: ...!
Meg: Eyaaaaagh!
Anila: Hm? Is that you, Meggie? What are you doing here?
Meg: Fuh-fuh-fuh... F-fish... Al... Al... Albacore...
???: ...!
A battle is unfolding between the giant fish and a slew of warriors.
Anila: That's no Albacore. This tough guy's called a bonito.
Anila: We've already taken out one vengeance-mad bonito, but lesser bonito like this one can be quite a handful as well.
Anila: That's why we're patrolling the shoreline. You be careful, Meggie.
Anila: Haaagh!
Bonito: ...!
The waves make a great splash as Anila unleashes a devastating attack on the rampaging fish.
Meg: A-Anila... How are you and those people you're with all so good at fighting?
Anila: We're a skyfarer crew.
Meg: Skyfarers...
Anila: Meggie. You mentioned coming to Auguste was a dream come true for you, right?
Anila: Well, know that there are times when you have to take action and protect what matters to you.
Meg: Take action? Me?
Anila: It certainly is one path to take. After all, the things one cherishes ought to be protected.
Meg: No way. Not me. Not ever. I can't...
Meg: (I'm not sure what exactly Anila's getting at, but I'm not sticking around to find out!)
Her legs nearly giving way, Meg gets on all fours and makes to crawl back to her hiding spot.
Anila: Stop! Don't move!
Meg: Huh?
A different bonito leaps out of the sea at Meg, scuttling about on land.
Bonito: ...!
As the fish flops about, it manages to score a hit on Meg's cheek with its tail fin.
Meg: Eek!
Anila: Meggie!
Meg: Ngh...
Anila: Meggie! Keep it together!
The sound of the lapping waves and Anila's voice become a blur in her waning consciousness.
Meg: Mom? I think I've had enough of Auguste...
Meg falls unconscious. It will be an entire day later when she finally recovers and opens her eyes.
Meg goes on to spend the remainder of her vacation in perpetual fear of the ocean, staying as far away from it as possible.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 3: A Slice of Meg's Summer - Episode 1

Meg is in low spirits when summertime rolls around the following year. She has no intentions of traveling this time around. But while taking a stroll through town, she lucks out on a raffle and wins a free trip to Auguste. Though at first reluctant to accept, the envy of the surrounding crowd convinces her to change her tune.

Meg: Recap time!
Meg: Yeah, so my second trip was supposed to be Auguste Two: Vacation Harder!
Meg: I got to use a sweet beach house, 'cept a bunch of weirdos calling themselves skyfarers were killing my nerves.
Meg: But on the plus side I got to know a girl named Anila who was really cool!
Meg: Things were all fine and dandy—until more giant fishies came to say hello!
Meg: "Hello, Meg!"
Meg: When it slapped me with its wet, slimy tail, I told myself enough was enough.
Meg: It was time to break up with Auguste for good.
Meg: Or so I thought...
An air cruise liner moored at the port of a small island is about to set sail.
Meg: Why am I always late!
A cheery but out-of-breath Meg dashes onto the ship just in time.
It was about a month ago when she decided to give Auguste another chance.
Meg is working at the local cafe, her mood sunken, unsure of how she should spend the upcoming summer vacation.
Meg: (I think this is the year I finally forget about that place... Auguste just isn't for me...)
Meg: (Sigh... It was supposed to become my favorite place too...)
After two consecutive years of traumatic experiences at the resort destination of her childhood dreams, Meg has lost the passion for Auguste she once had.
Meg is walking listlessly down the shopping district when someone calls out to her.
Shopkeep: Hiya, Meg! You headin' home from shopping?
Meg: Uh-huh... Just running an errand...
Shopkeep: Care to try your luck at the raffle? We're running a special promo right now! You get one free draw for every purchase made in the marketplace today.
Meg: A free draw? I guess it wouldn't hurt to try...
Meg spins the wheel, and out comes a blue bead.
Meg: Oh, I got something.
Shopkeep: A blue one!
Shopkeep: Congratulations! You are the winner of the grand prize!
Meg: What the... Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Curious onlookers gather and form a crowd around Meg.
Shopkeep: Lady Luck smiles upon you, Meg! Kudos!
Meg: Oh my gosh! I'm so happy, I could cry!
Meg: So, um... What did I win anyway?
Shopkeep: The grand prize is... an all-expenses-paid trip to Auguste!
Passersby: Whoo-hoo!
Meg: Bwuh?
Simply hearing "Auguste" is enough for Meg to feel the blood drain from her face.
Meg: A-Au-Auguste!
Shopkeep: Yep! Surely you know of it? Auguste—the ultimate water resort that everyone dreams of visiting!
Meg: (You think I don't know that!)
Meg: Wow, this is all so sudden... I'm not too sure about—
Shopkeep: Whew, I think I've just turned green with envy! You hear that, everyone? This lil' lady's going to Auguste!
The crowd, reveling in the excitement of the moment, showers Meg with congratulations.
Meg: Huh? But I—
Shopkeep: I'm sure you'll have an incredible time, Lucky Meg!
Meg: Lucky Meg?
The jealous look in everyone's eyes stirs a change in Meg's naive heart.
Meg: (What am I going to pack...)
And so for the third year in a row, Meg has her sights set on the clear blue ocean once more.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 3: A Slice of Meg's Summer - Episode 2

Meg is excited to see the beach again, but her enthusiasm drops a few notches when Mari shows up with yet another new boyfriend, this one named Helnar. The couple go off to enjoy themselves, leaving Meg to be by her lonesome.

Meg: Hrgh! Phew...
Meg: Aahhh... I'm as free as a bird here! It's a good thing I decided to come after all!
Meg: (I know I've been through a lot in Auguste, but there's no way I could possibly have a bad experience three years in a row!)
Meg: All righty, I've gotta stay positive! A refreshing swim ought to help!
Mari: Ooh, fancy seeing you here again, Meg.
Meg: Mari!
Two years have passed since the two last crossed paths in Auguste.
Mari: All by yourself again, Meg? You really okay with that?
Meg: What do you mean?
Mari: If you ask me, there's only one thing for gals like us to do in Auguste.
Meg: Um... To swim?
Mari: Ugh, gimme a break. Scoring a hot guy for ourselves in a primo spot like this is everything!
Meg: Guys, huh?
Mari: Ooh yeah. You can bet I've got someone to cuddle with this year too.
Meg: Hm, I'm not surprised... (I bet it's that flirty boyfriend again.)
Just then, someone walks up to Mari.
???: Mari, everything okay? She your friend?
Mari: Oh, Helnar! Where'd you run off to?
Helnar: Sorry, had an errand to run. I'm helping out at the beach house for the summer after all.
Meg: ...!
Meg latches on to Mari's shoulder's in a panic and whispers in her ear.
Meg: Wh-who is that? He's not the same person you introduced me to two years ago.
Mari: Huh? Did I do that? Anyhoo, there's no way I'd remember a guy from that long ago.
Meg: Whew... Mari, a real playgirl...
Mari: I met Helnar today actually, just down there. He came up to me, all manly and fine, asking if I wanted to hang out.
Meg: How... How do you get boyfriends so easily, Mari?
Mari: I dunno, it just happens. I was minding my own business, and bam, now we're a thing... What's a girl to do? Teehee...
Mari: Maybe it's my natural girlish charm? That blessing probably doesn't hurt either.
Helnar: Hey. What's up with you two?
Mari: Oh, it's nothing at all!
Meg: Wait. Mari, what did you mean by "that blessing"?
Mari: Mum's the word on that one! Good luck, Meg!
Mari: I mean, you're free to spend your Auguste vacation however you want; I just think it's a shame to spend it alone.
Meg: ...
Mari: Oh, sorry, Helnar. This girl's Meg. We're childhood friends from back home.
Helnar: Nice to meetcha, Meg. If you don't have any plans for later, you're welcome to come hang out with us at the beach house.
Mari: Whoa, hold up a sec! You asked me first!
Helnar: Meg's your friend, right? A guy with a big heart like me can definitely handle a cutie in each arm.
Mari: Really now, Helnar! Meg mentioned having something else to do, so let's you and I get a move on!
Helnar: Feel free to drop by if you change your mind later, Meg. We've got plenty of watermelon we picked up from a deserted island.
Meg: O-okay... (Watermelon?)
Mari: Hope you find your own Prince Charming soon, Meg. See ya later.
Helnar is about to say something else, but Mari grabs his arm and urges him toward the beach house.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 3: A Slice of Meg's Summer - Episode 3

A relaxing swim helps Meg forget the previous trauma she's experienced in Auguste. As she makes her way back to shore, a giant fish rams into her from behind. The impact knocks Meg into the air, sending her crashing and sinking into the water.

Meg: ...
With Mari and Helnar gone, Meg is left all alone on the beach. She begins to pity herself.
Meg: (No, Meg! You are not pathetic! You came to Auguste for a good time, and darn right you will have one!)
Meg: (My Prince Charming is just waiting for the right moment to make his appearance! It won't be long now!)
Shrugging off her feelings of jealousy, Meg dives into the water and focuses only on swimming.
Meg: Phew! I've come pretty far out.
Meg: This sure does feel nice though. It's a completely different sensation from the rivers and lakes back home.
Meg is comfortably floating on the water, squinting at the woven strands of sunlight in the horizon with a smile.
Meg: Teehee, this is the life. I was worried for nothing.
Meg: I should get back to the hotel soon and enjoy myself a nice meal.
Meg begins swimming back to shore.
???: Watch out!
Meg: Huh?
???: ...!
Meg: Eep—
A giant fish bolting in from behind knocks Meg into the air. It happens so suddenly—she crashes back into the water before she can scream.
Meg: (Huh? What just happened? Am I... drowning?)
Meg: (I... can't... think...)
Meg: (Help... Prince... Charming... Ngh...)

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 3: A Slice of Meg's Summer - Episode 4

Saved by a man named Jin, Meg awakens to learn that it was a rising sunfish which tackled her. Jin introduces himself as a member of a certain skyfarer crew, then runs off to join his allies in battle against the fish. While watching in shock at the scene unfolding before her, she vows to never come back to Auguste.

Meg can sense that she's on the beach before she even opens her heavy eyelids.
The warm, sunbaked sand against her back along with the gentle crashing of the waves rouses her to consciousness.
Of course, there is also the sensation of the firm hand supporting her head from below.
Meg: (It's a man... Did he save me?)
Meg: (Oh no... What do I look like right now?)
She musters enough strength to open her eyes.
Meg: Mng... (I see something white...)
Meg: (Could it be... my Prince Charming?)
As her vision gradually comes into focus, she is able to make out the contours of the white object.
???: Good. You're awake!
Meg: Eeyaaagh!
???: Whoa, now! Quick, sudden movements like that are best avoided in your state. I suggest resting up some more.
Meg: Aiiee... No...
The shock is too great. Meg's heart nearly leaps out of her chest.
???: My name is Jin. I swam out to sea in search of a giant fish that's been terrorizing sunbathers.
Jin: By the time I noticed it racing toward you, it was already too late.
Jin: All I could do was call out to you. Forgive me...
Meg: Um... So you saved me?
Th-thank you...
Jin: Please, don't mention it. In fact I owe you an apology...
Jin: When my group headed to a certain deserted island by boat, we encroached upon the fish's territory without realizing it. That must've provoked it.
Meg: Huh? A deserted island?
Jin: Yes. We went there in search of watermelons.
Jin: Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine we'd have to battle a massive watermelon for the spoils...
As Meg listens in disbelief, a disturbance breaks out nearby.
???: Hey, Jin! We need you here. Looks like the rising sunfish is on the move again!
Helnar: Boy, is it one heckuva fish. If we don't deal with it soon, there won't be a babe left on the beach.
Jin: Very well!
Jin: I apologize for not being able to bring you to a doctor, but I must go!
Meg: I'm okay now... Please do what you have to.
Jin: Thank you! And be safe!
The man heads toward the water's edge.
Meg ponders to herself as she watches the man and his comrades engage in battle.
Meg: (I thought he seemed a bit odd... But it makes sense if he's in with that skyfarer crew...)
???: It went that way!
???: Be careful!
Helnar: Right! I'll draw its attention!
Jin: Take this! Heave-ho!
Rising Sunfish: ...!
Meg: (What is it that drives them to fight so hard?)
Meg: (Especially in a prime vacationing spot like Auguste...)
Meg: (Not like it matters though... Because I won't be coming back to Auguste. It's too painful...)
Meg: (I'll have to say goodbye... to what should have been my beloved Auguste.)
While clutching her knees watching the seaside battle unfold...
Mari: Helnar? Helnar, where'd you go?
Meg catches a glimpse of Mari searching for her summer love.
The vacation would go on to end on a melancholic note, leaving Meg's heart unfulfilled for the third year in a row.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 4: Poacher's Meg - Episode 1

Despite Meg's vow to stay away from Auguste for good, she shows up at the usual hotel again a year later. It turns out when she helped an injured elderly woman get to the hospital, the senior repaid Meg's kindness with a free ticket to Auguste. Unable to turn it down, Meg unwillingly accepted it.

Meg: Recap time!
Meg: I figured my luck couldn't possibly be bad enough for something awful to happen thrice, and so I decided to take another plunge in Auguste!
Meg: But stupid is as stupid does! I went for a swim, and wham—a fish rammed into me out of left field!
Meg: Down I went, sinking into the water... But before I knew it, I was on the beach!
Meg: When I came to, there he was: my Prince Ch—
Meg: Nope! Some guy in tighty-whities!
Gran is the Main Character

Meg: And—surprise, surprise—he's a member of that crew that keeps popping up!
Djeeta is the Main Character

Meg: And—surprise, surprise—he's a member of that crew that keeps popping up!
Meg: Why, oh, why, do my vacations always have to go awry?
Meg: I swore to myself I'd never, ever, eeeever go back to Auguste again!
Meg: ...
Hotelier: Ahem... It's a pleasure to see you again, Meg...
Meg: Haha...
The proprietor takes on a gingerly tone when speaking to Meg, who has just finished checking in.
Her features have changed somewhat, but whether that is due to natural maturation or the series of traumatic experiences in recent years is anyone's guess.
Hotelier: Knowing everything that's happened to you each time you come to Auguste, I... don't know what to say...
Meg: I didn't plan on coming at first. But I have my reasons...
Hotelier: Is that so?
Meg: I think I'll just enjoy a quiet summer at home this year... Yeah, that's probably for the best.
Forgoing a vacation does little to lift Meg's spirits, but she prioritizes peace above all else for now.
While taking a walk across town, she spots someone hunched over by the wayside.
Meg: Um, ma'am? Are you okay?
Grandma: Ah, yes, I'm right as rain... But thank you for asking, dear.
Grandma: Ngh!
The elderly lady lets out a muffled shriek when trying to get up, then falls to her knees.
Meg: Oh no! Let me take you to the doctor!
Grandma: Huh? But...
Meg: It's okay! Here, get on my back!
After making sure that the senior is secured behind her, Meg carefully dashes to the nearest clinic.
Grandma: Thank you for getting me here, miss. The doctor said it was a close call.
Grandma: Fortunately I feel much better after taking some medicine. I can't thank you enough...
Meg: Please don't worry about it. It's nothing really.
Grandma: Even the doctor said you made the right call by rushing me to the clinic...
Grandma: There's something special about you... Really, thank you.
Meg: Oh, I just happen to have a bit of experience with emergencies... Well, I'll be off now.
Grandma: Wait just one second! I have something for you.
The old lady digs into her pockets, fumbling for something.
Meg: Oh, please, there's no need to give me anything! I only did what anyone would—
Grandma: Here you go.
Meg thought it might be an offer of coin, but it turns out to be a scrap of paper.
Meg: Hm? What's this?
Grandma: A round-trip ticket to Auguste, with room and board included.
Meg: ...
Grandma: I was really looking forward to going this summer.
Grandma: But given my condition, I've decided to play it safe and spend the summer with my kids and grandkids instead.
Meg: But I've already been to Aug—
Grandma: I want you to have it. No need to be shy about it.
Meg: I'm not trying to be ungrateful. It's just the mere mention of Auguste makes my mind go blank...
Grandma: Auguste, oh, Auguste... Me and my hubby made a promise in our youth to go there together someday...
Grandma: But we've always been so busy working our tails off that the chance flew us by. He passed away a few years ago...
Grandma: But I'm past that now. What matters isn't Auguste itself, but rather all my precious memories of him.
Meg: ...
Grandma: Enjoy the trip, for my sake too. You saved my life. This is the least I can do for you.
Meg: Sniff... Sob... O-okay, I'll go...
Grandma: Aw, I'm sorry if I made you cry talking about my past, dear. You're such a sweetheart.
The senior completely misunderstands the true meaning of Meg's tears.
Meg: And the rest is history...
Hotelier: So I see...

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 4: Poacher's Meg - Episode 2

By the hotelier's recommendation, Meg goes to Benthic Island for what should be a quiet, relaxing vacation. The sight of Sierokarte and the usual crew there convinces Meg to lock herself in her cottage for the vacation's duration, although it proves quite a challenge for Meg to ignore all the disturbing noise that seeps through the cottage walls.

Hotelier: Have you ever heard of Benthic Island by any chance? It's populated by a large fishing community, and the island's recently undergone development to become its own seaside resort.
Meg: Hm... Benthic Island...
Hotelier: You should be able to relax comfortably enough there. And since they haven't really gotten their name out yet, there won't be too many tourists around.
Hotelier: It just might be the perfect place for you to have a nice, quiet vacation.
Hotelier: If that sounds like something you might be interested in, I can get the paperwork sorted right away... What do you say?
Meg: (He's so nice! Now I feel bad for saying I didn't want to come...)
Meg: Uh... Yeah, that sounds great!
Hotelier: Very well, I will get you set up at once. I hope you'll finally get the vacation you've wanted for so long.
Having completely lost interest in sightseeing, Meg finds comfort in the idea of peace and quiet on Benthic Island.
As long as she keeps to herself there, chances are good that a certain crew won't show up again.
Sierokarte: Why, hello! Long time no see.
Meg: ...!
The very sight of Sierokarte causes Meg to instantly sink to her knees.
Sierokarte: Hm? Is everything okay?
Meg: Why... Why are you here? Why...
Sierokarte: Well, I'm the one in charge of turning Benthic Island into a beach resort.
Meg: Oh... Your business must be quite an empire now...
Sierokarte: My, my. I wouldn't go that far.
Meg: (Screw it... I'm not leaving my cottage until the day of my flight back home!)
Meg: (Nothing bad could possibly happen if I stay indoors!)
Sierokarte: I'll be in the area if you need anything. Let me know.
After being led to her cottage, Meg sees Sierokarte off then shuts the door.
Meg: Okay, now to just while away my time indoors—
Sierokarte: Hey, sorry!
Meg: Eek!
Sierokarte: I forgot to say this, but I should be able to bring you some sea urkins later tonight. They're a delicacy of the island.
Meg: Sea urkins, huh...
Sierokarte: The island's currently having a bit of trouble with urkin poachers, but it's nothing for you to worry about.
Sierokarte: I've asked a crew I know to help deal with them. Things should calm down soon enough.
Meg: A crew? (Sigh... Not those people again...)
Sierokarte: Come to think of it, I think you've met some of their members before.
Sierokarte: Given their skill, they'll resolve the predicament in no time at all. And when they do, I'll fetch you some urkins.
Seeing Sierokarte off once more, Meg pokes her head out the door, looking both ways. She then closes the door and triple checks the lock.
Meg: Okay now, whew... I only just got here, and I'm already exhausted...
The interior of the cottage has a luxurious feel to it, giving Meg ample space and comfort.
Meg: Wow, look at all that fruit! I hope it's okay to eat some. Ooh, there's juice too!
Meg: And so many books about Auguste... I definitely won't be bored staying inside!
Meg cuts some fruit into smaller pieces and carries a plateful of it to the sofa, plopping herself down with a book in hand.
Meg: (Mm, so comfy! Just because it's a resort doesn't mean I have to spend my time outside!)
The relaxed Meg tunes out with some quiet reading time.
But before long, loud voices from far away reach her ears.
???: Hyaa-haa! You're gonna pay for tying us up!
Meg: I think I just heard something...
Meg: Nah, it can't be. I'm sure my mind's just playing tricks on me.
Obnoxious Noise: Hiiyaaa! Prepare to die!
Obnoxious Noise: Hyaa-har-har! Defeat 'n retreat are nah in our vocabulary!
Meg: Mmm! This fruit is so tasty! I ought to peel myself some more!
Meg: Maybe I can buy some for that grandma later as a souvenir!
Obnoxious Noise: Hiiyaaa!
Obnoxious Noise: Hyaa-haha! I'm gon' cut ya all to pieces!
Meg: Sniff... This novel set in Auguste is so moving...
Meg: I didn't expect to find such a great book here... I should try to snag myself a copy at the bookstore before returning.
Obnoxious Noise: Gyahaha! Whodathunk da lass woul' actually gib us da queen's location!
Obnoxious Noise: Maybe we're not the dumbest ones out here after all!
Meg: Whew... This juice is so good! Nothing like rehydrating after a good cry!
Meg: An indoor vacation is the best! There's no one around to bother me, giving me all the peace and quiet I need... Mm-hm...
Meg: That's right... Peace... and quiet...
Meg makes a concerted effort to fully enjoy herself with distractions of food and activity. But it proves a tad bit difficult.
Obnoxious Noise: No mercy! And don't let a single one get away! Capture them alive! Or kill them! I don't care which—just do it!
Obnoxious Noise: Aaarrrgh!
Obnoxious Noise: Hiiiyaaa! You're on! A painful end to every one of these fishers!
No longer able to pretend that she can't hear the violent commotion outside, Meg covers both her ears and mutters loudly to herself.
Meg: Nuh-uh! I don't hear anything, I don't hear anything, I don't hear anything!
Meg: La-la-la! What yummy juice!
La-dee-dah! What a wonderful book!
Meg: Auguste is sooooo muuuch fuuuun! Yaaaaaaaaay!
Unwilling to accept the reality of the situation, she blocks out the cacophonous racket by replacing it with her own screaming until the sun sets.
Meg: Aaaaaaahhhh!

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 4: Poacher's Meg - Episode 3

Meg enjoys a delicacy of Benthic Island known as urkins for dinner, courtesy of Sierokarte. The Harvin offers to formally introduce her to the skyfarer crew, but Meg figures that coming face to face with a group of such unique personalities will make her feel even more inferior and refuses. During a stroll after dinner, a monster shows up.

Meg: It's delicious!
Sierokarte: Haha, I'm pleased to hear that.
Sierokarte has dropped by again at night with a treat of sea urkins, a delicacy of the island.
The sweet, succulent flavor and creamy sensation ease Meg's suffering, helping her come back from the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Meg: It's already flavorful as is, but it goes well with salad too and packs an extra punch when dressed with fish eggs!
Meg: Did you make all of this yourself, Sierokarte? I'm impressed!
Sierokarte: Oh, no, it's the crew that's deserving of your praise.
Sierokarte: They have so many talented cooks among their ranks.
Meg: I see... (Just what kind of people are they...)
Sierokarte: But, Meg, are you really okay being alone?
Meg: Huh?
Sierokarte: If you're even the least bit interested, I can introduce you to the crew. They're a friendly bunch.
Sierokarte: After all, stay cooped up inside for too long, and you might feel like you're in a hole full of water. I hope you know I only mean well... Teehee...
Meg: Me? Hang out with that crew? Are you serious, Siero?
Sierokarte: But of course I am. The more the merrier, right?
Sierokarte: They're all bursting with personality, so I promise you won't get bored.
Meg: Yeah, I know they really stand out... Which is all the more reason for me to refuse.
Sierokarte: Hm?
Meg: I consider myself a plain Jane. I don't have any special talent, I'm not funny...
Meg: Rubbing elbows with extraordinary people would be a constant reminder of how generic I am...
Meg: It's true that I've always wanted to come to Auguste, but part of that was because I wanted an identity.
Sierokarte: Oh? How so?
Meg: "Just another girl—but one who's been to Auguste..." I thought that might be enough to make me stand out.
Meg: In the countryside where I'm from, having been to Auguste is a sort of status symbol. Everyone dreams of coming here!
Meg: But that all went out the window when I saw my friend Mari here too on my very first trip to Auguste.
Meg: I can't call myself that one country girl who's been to the isles anymore.
Meg: Just deserts for my base intentions, I suppose...
Sierokarte: ...
Meg: Sorry if that was a bit much... It's just, I'd rather be alone...
Sierokarte: I understand...
Meg's wish for solitude comes true when Sierokarte takes her leave shortly after.
Seeing that it's also nice and quiet outside, a burgeoning thirst for a bit of adventure takes hold of her.
Meg: Sierokarte mentioned the island's at peace now, so it should be safe for me to take a stroll.
Meg: Wow! It's so beautiful at night...
Meg: The soft murmur of the waves in the darkness is strangely comforting...
Sierokarte: If you're even the least bit interested, I can introduce you to members of the crew. They're a friendly bunch.
The face of the friendly merchant haunts Meg's memory, and she quickly shakes her head in a panic.
Meg: Hey, I've got friends. Who says I don't?
Meg: (Then again, sometimes.... Just sometimes I feel like I've never really fit in with everyone back home...)
Meg: (Which is why I came to Auguste, so that I could become the topic of conversation...)
Meg: Sigh, I'm thinking way too hard about this. I should be enjoying myself more...
Meg: And enjoy myself, I will!
Monster: ...
Meg: Right, Mr. Crab?
Monster: ...!
Meg: Wait a sec! Crabs aren't supposed to be that big!

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 4: Poacher's Meg - Episode 4

A girl named Ferry and her pets save Meg from the monster. She's also a member of the skyfarer crew that seems to pop up wherever Meg goes. Though grateful, Meg passes out in shock from the knowledge that Ferry and her pets are ghosts. The crew has already taken off by the time she awakens the next morning.

Meg: Waah!
Monster: ...!
Meg: I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry! I should've been more careful!
Meg takes off, running from the monster at full speed.
Meg: (Fish, monsters, and who knows what else... Why do my vacations always end up like this?)
Meg: Eep!
Meg stumbles over her own feet in the darkness, landing with a thud. She turns around to find the monster gaining on her.
Monster: ...!
Meg: Ah... Aah... Ahh...
Meg, paralyzed with fear, watches in horror as the monster raises its giant pincers above her.
???: Oh, no, you don't!
Monster: ...!
???: Looks like you're up for a fight! Good—you're gonna get one! Let's do this, guys!
???: ...!
???: ...!
???: ...
Monster: ...!
Dazed by the flurry of attacks, the monster uses the cover of darkness to make its escape.
???: Whew... What a persistent one.
???: Are you okay?
Meg: Um, yeah...
It isn't until the unknown girl helps her up that Meg realizes she is saved.
Meg: I-I thought I was done for!
???: Relax, you're safe now. You're not hurt anywhere, are you?
Meg: I tripped and fell, but it wasn't too bad... So, um, what brings you here?
???: I'm with my crew. We're staying on this island for the time being.
Meg: Ah... You're with that group Sierokarte talked about...
???: Oh, you know her? Well, no surprise there; Siero's really well connected.
Meg: Hey, what's your name? I'm Meg, by the way.
???: Nice to meet you, Meg. I'm Ferry.
Meg: Thank you for saving me, Ferry! Thank you soooo much!
Meg: And I suppose I should also thank your... pets? They seem really clever.
Ferry: Mm-hm. This is Beppo, Fugee, and Geegee. In my arms here is Nicola. There's also Momo, who's not here right now.
Beppo: ...!
Fugee: ...!
Geegee: ...
Meg: Wh-what cute doggies they are... Um, I mean bunnies... Wait, bunnies?
Meg: (Hm... They're not doggies... They're not bunnies either...)
Meg: (Uh... Do animals usually glow blue? I must be going crazy because I can practically see right through them...)
Beppo: ...!
Meg: ...!
Ferry: Beppo's right. You should be more careful when walking around at night.
Meg: Huh? You can understand them?
Ferry: Uh-huh. As ghosts, we're able to communicate with each other.
Meg: Uuummm... Ghosts?
Ferry: Er... There's no need for you to be so alarmed...
Meg: ...
A chilling wind blows in from the sea. Meg starts to tremble, goosebumps rising on her skin.
Ferry: We died a long time ago.
Ferry: But somehow, we're able to remain in this world as ghosts.
Meg: ...
???: Grar!
Meg: Aiiee!
Ferry: Hey! Cut that out, Momo!
Ferry: Sorry... I hope that didn't scare you too much.
Ferry: They were once evil spirits that had taken up residence in abandoned ruins. Maybe that's why they like to scare people.
Meg: Evil spirits?
Ferry: Oh, but that's all in the past! I've made sure to discipline them well.
Ferry: Momo was just really lonely, not having anyone call it by name for an incredibly long time.
Ferry: I guess when you're all alone in a dark place for a long time, you start to change for the worse...
Meg: ...
Ferry: Though nowadays, things are livelier than ever for them.
Ferry: Heck, on hot days they're just about the most popular members of the crew—nothing like a ghost to keep you cool.
Ferry: Hm? Is everything okay? Your face is really pale...
Meg: ...
Ferry: What's wrong? Are you feeling pain anywhere?
Meg: Mng...
The realization that she's conversing with a ghost causes Meg to froth at the mouth and black out.
Ferry: Oh no... I'd better get Siero.
The next morning, Meg wakes up to find herself in the cottage.
She sheepishly asks Siero about the crew, and the Harvin tells her they've already taken off after solving the island's poacher problem.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 5: Bzzt! Megdays Summer Chronicle - Episode 1

Running into Mari again in Auguste, Meg joins her and her latest boyfriend for a trip to Cyrath Island. When their boat is out on the sea, Meg—in a display of fearlessness—jumps into the water for a swim. It isn't long before she passes out from a mysterious electrical shock. A savior comes to her rescue.

A girl has just finished checking in at a hotel situated in Mizarea, the aquatic capital of Auguste.
The speed at which she fills out the paperwork shows that she's very well accustomed to the process.
Hotelier: Greetings, Meg... It's a great pleasure to be able to serve you once more...
Meg: ...
Hotelier: I must apologize for recommending Benthic Island last year... I could not foresee the trouble that would crop up...
Meg: It's okay... None of that is your fault.
Hotelier: So then... What brings you to Auguste this year?
Meg: Feh... I'd like to ask myself that question.
Meg: But if you really want to know, I can tell you. Won't change the fact I'm here either way.
Hotelier: Er, it's okay. I wouldn't want to pry...
Sensing that Meg would rather not talk about it given her self-deprecating tone, the proprietor falls silent.
Meg watches the other vacationers frolicking on the beach while she waits expectantly for some calamity to befall her.
Meg: And of course I'm here alone again—
Mari: That you, Meg? What are you doing way out here?
Meg: Mari...
Mari's Boyfriend: Hey, what's going on?
Mari: Ran into my friend from back home. She always comes to Auguste alone.
Mari's Boyfriend: Howdy, nice to meet ya! You've got guts to come out here by your lonesome!
Meg: Uh-huh...
Mari: By the way, I've been thinking of moving out, maybe trying somewhere new. What do you think of that, Meg?
Meg: Oh yeah? But why?
Mari: There's only so much to do in the countryside; it gets boring. Besides, I wanna like see some change in myself.
Meg: Change in yourself...
Mari: Welp, I guess there's not much point telling you. Anyhoo, what are you up to?
Meg: I got here right before you called out to me actually. I guess I'm just daydreaming for now...
Mari: Daydreaming, huh... You do that an awful lot, don't you, Meg.
Meg: ...
Mari: If you're so free, you could always tag along with us to Cyrath Island?
Mari: They've got a special breed of fish or something that's supposed to be really good and—
Meg: I'll come along.
Mari: Wait, what?
Meg: I mean, you're inviting me, right?
Mari: Um... Sure.
Meg: I don't care what happens anymore. I'm done running. I'll enjoy myself if it kills me.
Mari: Sorry, I don't follow you...
Fed up with all the misfortune that's befallen her, Meg is more determined than ever to enjoy Auguste.
And so she travels with Mari and her boyfriend to Cyrath Island.
Mari's Boyfriend: Rowing a boat's harder than I thought...
Mari: Thank you, sweetie! I think I've fallen for you all over again!
Meg: ...
The three are on a rent-a-boat, taking a pleasure cruise out on the sea.
Mari: Isn't he the coolest, Meg?
Meg: Huh? Oh yeah... Sure... It's because you're blessed, right?
Mari: Haha, that's a secret! How 'bout yourself? Where's your hottie?
Meg: I'm not worried about that right now...
Mari: Seriously? Back when we were kids, you wouldn't stop talking about visiting Auguste and finding your Prince Charming.
Meg: I'm not so concerned anymore about looking for a boyfriend. Besides, I'm not sure Auguste is the place for that.
Mari: What do you mean? A vacation's the prime time for love!
Meg: (I suppose...)
Mari's Boyfriend: Having secret girl talk? Lemme in on the fun!
Mari: Oh, we were just talking about hot guys like you!
Meg: Ugh! No, we weren't.
Meg stands up and takes off a layer of clothes, revealing her swimsuit underneath.
Meg: I'm going for a swim! Hope you don't mind me leaving my clothes here.
Mari: Hold on a sec... Swimming out here? Are you serious?
Mari's Boyfriend: Yeah, like, water looks pretty deep.
Meg: I'll be fine. I love swimming; I can do this.
Without a moment of hesitation, Meg plunges into the sea.
Meg: This feels so good! The sea's just calling out to me!
Mari: Isn't it dangerous? Get back on the boat already.
Meg: Dangerous? Do you know how much danger I've been through? This is nothing in comparison.
Mari: (Meg... You've changed...)
Mari's Boyfriend: Hey, I think there's something moving down there...
Mari's boyfriend points to a large, slender shadow drifting just below the water's surface.
Mari notices it too and gasps in surprise. She then hears a commotion on the beach.
Mari: Is it just me, or did it suddenly get really noisy over there?
???: Have we recovered all the tourists out at sea? Do a roll call to make sure we didn't miss anyone!
???: Check that the number of boats and floats returned match up as well!
Mari: What're they saying? I can't make it out, but things sound pretty dicey...
Mari's Boyfriend: Looks like everyone's leaving the beach...
Meg: What's wrong? You should come down for a swim too.
Mari: You idiot! Get back up here!
???: ...
Mari: Ah! Meg, behind you!
Meg: Huh?
Meg loses consciousness before she can fully turn around.
Electric Eal: ...!
Meg: Guh-guh-guh-guh-guh!
Mari: Meeeg!
Meg: Ungh...
Fainting from electrical shock, Meg's body falls limp and floats on the water.
Mari & Boyfriend: Aiieee!
Mari reaches out to Meg in a frightful panic.
???: Stay out of the water. You don't want to electrocute yourself.
Mari: Huh? Wh-who are you? Why would I be electrocuted?
Mari turns around to find a man standing on another boat.
???: I came out as soon as they said a boat was missing. I should've figured...
???: Haah!
Mari: Wait! I thought you said not to go in the water!
Mari's Boyfriend: Aren't you afraid of being electrocuted?
???: Electrocution doesn't work on me. That's why I came alone. Stay on the boat and away from the edge.
???: ...!
There!
Electric Eal: ...!

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 5: Bzzt! Megdays Summer Chronicle - Episode 2

The man who saves Meg is named Albert, and he matches her qualifications as the ideal Prince Charming. Albert explains it was an electric eal that shocked her earlier, then runs off to help his fellow crew members battle more of the creatures. Fed up with trauma, Meg feels a fire light up inside her—a fire that will stay with her for a long time to come.

Did he save me? Could he be my Prince Charming?)
Meg: (Wait a second. I'm getting deja vu...)
Opening her eyes with trepidation, something white comes into view.
Meg: Hm? Tighty-whities again?
???: You're awake.
Meg: Huh?
???: There's no need to get up right away. What did you mean by tighty-whities by the way?
Meg: Eep!
???: Wha?
Meg: (That blonde hair!)
Meg: (Those clear eyes!)
Meg: (That brooding expression!)
???: What's wrong? Where does it hurt?
Meg: (Ahh! My Prince Charming!)
Mari: Meg, you're up! This man saved you!
Meg: You did? (That must mean he's all about justice! I knew it—this is the man I've been searching for all my life!)
Meg: I see... Thank you for saving me. Can I ask your name?
???: Albert.
Meg: That's a beautiful name... Um, what are your hobbies?
Albert: Look, are you sure you're okay? At least tell me you're thinking straight.
Mari: Sorry! I think her brain's still a bit frazzled from the shock!
Mari: We should probably find her a comfy place to rest up!
Albert: Good idea. Let's take her to the beach house down the road.
Albert gently scoops up Meg in his arms, holding her close to his body.
Meg: (Eeeep! He has me in a bridal carry! Thanks for the assist, Mari!)
Albert: Upsy-daisy.
Meg: (Excuse me?)
At the beach house, Albert sets Meg down on a chair.
Albert: There we go.
Meg: (I think he's older than me... But that's okay. It's part of his charm.)
Meg: (The more I look at him, the more he resembles the Prince Charming I've been waiting for... But there's something about him...)
A dashing blonde man with clear eyes and solemn face who stands for all that's righteous.
Albert fits Meg's description of a Prince Charming to a tee.
However...
Meg: It's strange...
Albert: Hm? So you are injured after all?
Meg: Oh, no, no! I'm okay!
Meg: (What should be the man of my dreams is right here with me. But my gut tells me something isn't right...)
Though Meg's heart at first fluttered at the sight of this handsome fellow...
Now that she's had time to take things in, she realizes she isn't quite as taken with Albert as she had initially thought.
Meg: What happened to me anyway? The last thing I remember is swimming out in the open sea.
Albert: You were knocked out cold by the shock of an electric eal.
Albert: You would do well to drink some water. Let me get you some.
As Albert walks over to the counter, Mari sneaks in to check on Meg.
Mari: Psst, Meg! Your wingwoman did her best to get you hooked up! What are you making small talk for!
Mari: He's totally your type! The ideal Prince Charming that you always talked my ear off about!
Meg: But I have no idea how I'm supposed to act...
Mari: Sigh... Just when I thought you'd finally grown up, you go back to be being the same ol' Meg.
Mari: There's a ton of questions you can ask to get to know him better! Like what does he usually do, where is he staying—anything!
Meg: Good point! You're a lifesaver, Mari!
Mari: I got you here, but you have to go the rest of the way yourself. Best of luck, Meg. I'm off to be with my sweetie-poo. Catch you later.
Meg: (She's right... I can't be spacing out now that my Prince Charming's before my very eyes!)
Albert: Sorry for the wait. Here, drink up.
Meg: Thank you!
Meg: So, Albert, what brings you to Auguste?
Albert: I'm on vacation with friends. But thanks to the problems caused by those eals, this vacation isn't exactly panning out.
Meg: What do you usually do?
Albert: Are you referring to my occupation? I'm the leader of a group of knights in my homeland.
Meg: Gasp! (A knight! He's a literal Prince Charming riding in on a white steed!)
Albert: But due to various circumstances, I'm traveling with a crew at the moment.
Meg: Eh? (A crew? Please don't tell me...)
As Meg's jaw drops in surprise, Albert stands up and glares in the direction of the sea.
Albert: Something's happening out there again...
Meg: Is that so?
???: Albert! We've got more electric eals poppin' up!
Albert: I'm going!
Meg: Huh? W-wait...
Albert bursts out of the house. Meg gives chase.
???: Be careful, everyone!
???: Let's finish this in one go!
Albert: Haah!
Electric Eal: ...!
Meg: ...
"Not again...," Meg tells herself.
She finds herself in a stupor as she watches a battle unfold between that selfsame crew and electric eals.
Her mind flashes back to the many misfortunes she's experienced in Auguste over the years.
???: ...!
Meg: Eyaaaaagh!
???: ...!
Meg: Eyaaaaagh!
???: ...!
Meg: Eep—
Monster: ...!
Meg: I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry! I should've been more careful!
Electric Eal: ...!
Meg: Guh-guh-guh-guh-guh!
Meg: ...!
Mari: Meg, what are you doing here! You'll get caught in the cross fire!
Mari grabs her arm, but Meg forcefully brushes her off.
Mari: Huh... Meg?
Meg: Again, and again, and again...
Mari: Wha?
Meg: Why, why, why!
Mari: Eek!
Meg: All I've ever wanted from Auguste was a proper vacation!
Meg: But no! Everything and everyone keeps getting in my blasted way!
Mari: M-Meg?
Meg: Albasnore, bonicrap, electric poopie—screw you all!
Meg: You're gonna pay for wrecking my Auguste vacation year after year after year!
Meg: I'll make them wish they were never born!
Seething with unbridled anger over all the trauma she's had to face, Meg suddenly recalls the words of someone she considers a friend.
Anila: Well, know that there are times when you have to take action and protect what matters to you.
Meg: ...!
Meg: ...
I'm going home.
Mari: What the? What do you mean you're going home?
Meg: Change of plans. I realized I have something to do.
Mari: I really don't get you sometimes...
Meg makes her way back to the hotel to pack her belongings and takes the first airship back home.
Meg: (Something has to change!)
Meg: (Forget Prince Charming. Change has to start with me—I can't wait for things to just fall into my lap anymore!)
Meanwhile back on the beach...
Albert: Ah-choo...
Vyrn: Hm? Comin' down with a cold from fighting out at sea?
Albert: I don't think so... This is going to sound weird, but it's like that feeling you get when some girl gives you the boot for no good reason...
Vyrn: What?
And so, another vacation passes.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 5: Bzzt! Megdays Summer Chronicle - Episode 3

The following year, Meg returns to Auguste as a warrior with a shark companion. Realizing she could never fully enjoy a vacation as long as she remained weak, Meg underwent a transformation. When Mari's boyfriend instantly falls for Meg, Mari runs off, her pride taking a major blow.

Much time has passed since the electric eal incident. Mari is on the beaches of Auguste enjoying the summer with her boyfriend.
One big change for Mari is that she's since relocated from her rural town to live on another island.
Mari: Mm, that juice earlier was so good.
Mari's Boyfriend: You heard about all the sightings that started popping up last month?
Mari: Sightings? You mean like ghost sightings?
Mari's Boyfriend: Haha, nah. I'm talking about sharks. Lots of 'em.
Mari: No way! Sharks are like those super dangerous fish, right? Should we be worried?
Mari's Boyfriend: I heard the problem's been settled. But either way, don't you worry, babe—I'll keep you safe from any shark attacks.
Mari: Teehee, that's why I love you so much!
Today marks the first anniversary of this loving couple's intimate relationship.
They are about to receive an unexpected visitor.
???: Long time no see, Mari.
From the voice alone, Mari can already tell who it is without turning around.
Mari: Had a sneaking suspicion I'd be seeing you again, Meg. How are you? Everything okay back in—
When she does look back, the sight before Mari leaves her breathless.
Meg: What's wrong?
Meg: Oh, and nothing new back home really.
Meg: Everyone's doing great.
Mari: Do I know you!
Meg: It's me, Meg. How could you not recognize me?
Mari: Wha... You're Meg? No way...
Mari: How did you get like that? Those clothes... Those muscles...
Meg: You still remember those electric eals, Mari?
Mari: Y-yeah, what about them?
Meg: A lot's happened to me in Auguste. But that last incident was the tipping point.
Meg: It made me realize that I could never enjoy a vacation because I was too weak.
Immediately after returning home from Auguste the year prior, Meg heads to the cafe to announce her resignation.
Meg: Thanks for everything. I've decided to seclude myself in the mountains to become a better, stronger version of myself!
Meg: Huff... Huff... This is brutal... I'm in pain all over... But I have to keep going...
Meg: Enough whimpering... The next time trouble comes my way, I'll be the one to resolve it... I love Auguste too much to give up on it!
Meg: Whew, okay... What's next on the training menu?
Meg: I took a one-year correspondence course in martial arts, starting from the basics. I even got the chance to fight some actual monsters.
Meg: It toughened me up good.
Mari: That is one crazy transformation...
As Mari stands with her mouth agape, others on the beach notice a large shadow flying overhead.
Mari: What is that!
They try to follow it with their eyes, but it moves too fast. But then it circles around and lands beside Meg.
???: Sharrrk...
Mari & Boyfriend: Shaaarrrk!
Meg: I picked up this stray shark about a month ago. I call her Ursula.
Ursula: Sharrrk...
Mari: Sh-sh-sharks can fly? How?
Meg: Of course fish fly. This is Auguste.
Mari: Wha...
Mari: What even is a stray shark? How is that a thing? I think I'm going crazy...
Meg: I found her in town.
Days after the shark catastrophe had settled down in Auguste...
A pair of stray cats are rummaging through a back alley for scraps of food.
Stray Cat 1: ...
Stray Cat 2: ...
A third animal joins them in the rummaging.
Stray Shark: Sharrrk...
Stray Cat 1: ...!
Stray Cat 2: ...!
Stray Shark: Sharrrk...
Stray Cats: ...
Stray Shark: Sharrrk...
Meg: Looks like you ended up frightening them off.
Stray Shark: Sharrrk?
Meg: You chose not to attack them even though you could have easily done so. Hm, I didn't think there'd be any shark survivors...
Meg: If you're alone, would you like to come with me?
Meg: A friend once told me that Auguste is best enjoyed with someone else.
Meg: Since we're both alone, why don't we pair up? I think it'll be fun.
Stray Shark: Sharrrk...
Meg: She once had a more earthly form, but that changed after being defeated and barely escaping death.
Meg: I don't know the details about her past, but Ursula and I are vacation buddies now. Don't worry, she doesn't bite.
Mari: ...
Meg: As for myself, I've started wearing clothes with more freedom of movement. So I guess you could say I've had a bit of a makeover.
Mari: Makeover? Nuh-uh. What you are is a paradigm shift!
Mari: Don't you think so too, babe?
Mari's Boyfriend: Damn...
Mari: Wha?
Meg: ...?
Mari's Boyfriend: That grace and poise... Those eyes beaming with confidence... I can't stop looking at her...
Mari's Boyfriend: Is this what you call love at first sight?
Mari: ...!
Mari: What the... Are you saying Meg is better than me? Please tell me you're joking...
Mari: On our first anniversary of all days?
Mari: Ugh, unbelievable!
Meg: Mari!
Suffering a major blow to her pride, Mari runs off, leaving behind her boyfriend and Meg.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 5: Bzzt! Megdays Summer Chronicle - Episode 4

Furious that her boyfriend fell for someone else so easily, Mari vents her anger at a matchmaking shrine and unknowingly awakens the colossal hermit crab slumbering beneath it. Meg, seeing that this creature will cause massive damage to the town, is determined to take it down with her shark companion, Ursula.

Meg: (Mari...)
Mari's Boyfriend: So, Meg. You wanna chill with me on the beach?
Meg: Huh?
Mari's Boyfriend: Wish I'd seen the potential in you earlier... You have no idea how much hotter you are now!
Mari's Boyfriend: I'm serious about you, Meg. I think we could really have something special toge—
Meg: Don't you dare talk to me.
Mari's Boyfriend: Huh?
Meg: A callous, insensitive boor who tramples over their partner's feelings and immediately chases after someone else is absolute trash.
Meg: If I ever see you disrespecting Mari again, you'll be sleeping with the eals. Or would your rather become shark feed for Ursula?
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Mari's Boyfriend: Urk... P-please don't mind me...
Meg: Scumbag...
Though harsh on the womanizer, Meg quickly goes back to worrying about her childhood friend.
Meg: (I hope Mari's okay... Hm, I don't see any sign of that crew either. If anything were to happen now...)
It turns out Mari has gone up the hillside of a mountain on Auguste's central island. The sun is starting to set.
Mari: Unbelievable! What did I do to deserve having my man so easily snatched away by Meg like that!
Mari vents her anger toward an old shrine covered in vegetation.
Mari: Some shrine of matchmaking you are! Is it so hard for you to pair me up with a man who doesn't have soot for eyes?
Mari: You think I like sweating up this mountain just to come pray to you?
Mari: To make matters worse, this is the naive, inexperienced Meg we're talking about!
Mari: Ugh, you suck!
Mari repeatedly stomps her foot on the shrine grounds in anger.
Mari: Useless, useless, useless!
Meanwhile on Auguste's Tono Island...
???: This is amaaazing!
???: Nom, nom... The sourness of the vinegared rice subdues the pungence of the raw fish, melding together with the fat.
???: Nom, nom...
???: Ka-Kappaaaa!
???: Ahaha! Lovin' it already, huh!
The crew is in a faraway place enjoying sushi with kappa.
Mari: Huh? What was that just now...
The rumbling persists, only to suddenly ratchet up with greater intensity.
The people in town and on the beach also sense something afoot.
Meg: What could this be?
Townsperson 1: Hey, look over there! Is it the mountain that's shaking?
Townsperson 2: More like... the mountain's moving...
Townsperson 1: Holy kamoly! You're right!
Townsperson 2: Eek!
As Meg calmly assesses the situation in the midst of this panic, a familiar face standing beside her calls out in surprise.
Sierokarte: Oh dear! Could the mountain be—
Meg: Siero!
Sierokarte: Huh? Is that you, Meg? My, you sure have changed!
Meg: Never mind that! Do you have any idea what that is?
Sierokarte: I believe it to be a divine presence that the people of Auguste have long forgotten... It is, in essence, a colossal hermit crab.
Meg: Hermit crab?
Sierokarte: It once terrorized the populace but eventually fell sound asleep.
Sierokarte: A shrine where people would regularly come to pray was built on it in the hopes that it would remain in deep slumber.
Sierokarte: But somehow that shrine came to be known as a blessing for matchmaking and relationships.
Sierokarte: Long ago, couples from all over visited the shrine while on their Auguste vacation.
Sierokarte: Nowadays though, most people don't know where the shrine is or that it even exists.
Meg: Wait a second... Blessing? Matchmaking?
Sierokarte: Praying to the colossal crab apparently increases your chances of meeting that special someone. A real blessing, wouldn't you say?
Meg: Blessing... Oh no! Mari!
Meg: Siero! What do you think the hermit crab is trying to do!
Sierokarte: It uses a massive mountain as both its home and protective shell.
Sierokarte: Once awakened, the first thing it wants is probably a new place to live.
Meg: A new place to live? In that case...
Sierokarte: Mm-hm... If the records are true, we're going to see some major collateral damage.
Meg: Okay... I'll stop the crab.
Sierokarte: Oh? I'm afraid that may be a bit difficult for one person...
Meg: I'm not alone. Ursula, give me a hand.
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Ursula circles around Meg overhead before charging straight into her.
Sierokarte: Oh my! That is really—
Before Sierokarte can speak her thoughts, Meg has already run off toward the colossal hermit crab.
Mari: Eep!
No longer on the mountain, Mari trips and falls in her rush to evacuate, suffering an injury.
Mari: Ouch...
Colossal Hermit: ...!
Mari: Eep... Help... Someone help me...
She spots a ray of hope among the throngs of people frantically trying to escape.
Mari's Boyfriend: ...!
Mari: Please! Help me! I sprained my ankle and can't move!
Mari's Boyfriend: ...!
The man pauses for a second, only to continue running and abandon his lover.
Mari: No!
Mari: Why! How can any guy just toss me away like this!
Colossal Hermit: ...!
As the hermit crab's legs close in on Mari, a black shadow steps in between them.
Meg: Mari, get down!
Colossal Hermit: ...!
Meg's attack on its leg knocks it off balance, and the hermit crab scuttles a few steps back.
Mari: Meg! What happened to you...
Meg: Thank goodness I found you. Are you okay, Mari?
Meg: You're not hurt, are you?
Mari: What's with your arm!
Meg's left arm, from her elbow to her fingertips, takes on an unusual form.
Meg: I merged with Ursula. She acts as my left arm.
Mari: You merged?
Meg: Something big fell from the sky last month. Ever since then, sharks in the area have been able to change form to an extent, or so she tells me.
Mari: Gah, nothing makes sense anymore! Flying sharks? You growing shark arms? Getting dumped by a guy?
Mari: What are you doing here anyway!
Meg: To save you, Mari! Why else? I'm going to take down that giant hermit crab!
Mari: You came for me?
Mari: Well, I refuse. Go away!
Meg: What are you saying?
Mari: I'm the one it's after. It's angry I kicked the shrine.
Mari: I happened to read about the shrine in an old book, so I went to pray. And next thing I knew, I had a boyfriend. I took it for granted...
Mari: But enough about that. Don't be stupid. You can't defeat that colossus of a crab. I'm ready to accept my fate...
Mari: There's a good chance things will go back to normal if I let it take me. Then Auguste will be at peace again.
Mari: Lucky you, Meg. You'll finally have the peaceful Auguste vacation you've always wanted.
Meg: You're the one who's being stupid!
Mari: ...!
Meg: You're a precious friend, Mari! And I don't abandon my friends!
Meg: You were kind enough to say hello and stop for a chat every time you spotted me in Auguste.
Meg: You could've just ignored me to focus on enjoying the summer with your boyfriend, but you didn't...
Mari: I don't even remember any of that... Not like it's a big deal to say hello anyway...
Meg: That's not the point. It mattered to me. And this is my way of thanking you.
Mari: You've changed so much, Meg. Not too long ago, you were still looking for your Prince Charming...
Meg: Yeah, I was... And I found out that was the wrong way to go about things.
Meg: Meeting Albert last year didn't exactly set my heart ablaze, despite him being everything I told myself I wanted...
Meg: Rather, it was watching him fight to protect Auguste that really got me fired up.
Meg: It made me realize something.
Meg: A Prince Charming isn't someone you wait for. It's someone you become. And so I set my mind to it!
As Mari listens in shocked silence, the hermit crab encroaches on the pair.
Colossal Hermit: ...!
Meg: All right, tough guy... I don't care if you're a deity or whatever, but you're gonna pay big-time for making a mess of Auguste.
Meg: I'm gonna put you back to sleep...
Meg: This time for good!
Meg: Ursula, it's meal time. Eat up.
Ursula: Sharrrk! Sharrrk!
Sierokarte: Meg!
Meg: Siero, good timing. My best friend Mari's hurt... Can I ask you to take care of her?
Mari: ...
Sierokarte: Sure, leave it to me. Are you going to be okay though?
Meg: Yeah, I'll keep Auguste safe. It's what I came to do.
Sierokarte: You're like a completely different person.
After seeing the two evacuate, Meg turns back to the hermit crab, readying both her knife and Ursula.
Meg: Come at me, crab! You calamities have racked up a big tab with me over the years, and I'm finally here to collect!
Colossal Hermit: ...!

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 6: My Beloved Auguste - Episode 1

Meg bumps into her friend Mari in Auguste again the next year. They spot a girl who's lost on the beach and decide to help her out. Just then a monster appears, but some other girl defeats it before Meg can even make a move.

After Meg's triumph over the colossal hermit crab, the seasons cycle until summer comes to Auguste once more.
A group of men swarms around a lone girl in one corner of the beach.
Playboy: Hey, baby. Want me to show you a good time around Auguste?
Mari: Sad losers...
Playboy: Huh?
Mari: You men only want one thing and it's disgusting...
Mari: One look at your faces, and I can tell you wouldn't lift a finger for me when push comes to shove.
Mari: Could you be any more shallow?
Playboy: ...
The bored Mari immediately lights up at the sight of a friendly figure.
Mari: Meg!
Meg: Whoa...
Mari flings herself around Meg's arm, pressing her cheeks against her dear friend's skin.
Mari: Long time no see, Meg!
Meg: Good to see you, Mari. How have you been?
Mari: It was sooo lonely not having you around!
Mari: You know, I've actually been thinking about moving back home. I mean, you're there after all...
Mari: Hey, what's wrong? You're looking at the sea something fierce.
Meg: I'm just keeping my eyes peeled. There's no telling what'll happen this year.
Mari: What do you mean?
Meg: I can't say for sure yet, but there was an incident with deepflight oysters last month—
Mari: Wait, you were here a month ago? I would've come out to see you if I knew!
Meg: I was only watching an eating contest from the sidelines. Anyway, I think I see a child who needs help.
Meg turns her attention to a girl wandering dazed on the beach.
???: ...
Meg: Hey there, everything okay? You've been walking back and forth through the same area for a while now.
???: ...!
Meg: Are you lost?
???: Um, y-y-yeah... I-it's my first time on the beach... I'm scared... Yangtopians everywhere...
Meg: Mind if we help you find whoever you came here with? Three heads are better than one, right?
???: Um... Would that be okay?
Meg: Sure! Come with us. So what's your name?
???: I'm Vikala...
Meg: Nice to meet you, Vikala. (You kind of remind me of the old Meg.)
Mari: (You're not only strong, but kindhearted too... I admire that, Meg...)
Mari: (The disgusting turds who dare call themselves men could learn a thing or two from you.)
As Meg asks Vikala to describe the people she's traveling with, a disturbance breaks out.
Townsperson 1: Aaahh! A monster from the sea!
Sea Monster: ...!
Meg: Sorry, Vikala! Mari, can you watch her?
Mari: Yeah, I've got her! Be careful, Meg!
Meg: Ursula, where are you? It's mergin' time!
A shark appears seemingly out of nowhere and charges straight into her.
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Meg: I'm going to murder that monster dead for trying to ruin a beautiful summer for everyone!
As Meg runs up to the monster, an unfamiliar figure breezes past her.
Meg: Huh?
???: Hahah! Bad boys like you deserve a spanking! Let's go, Dormouse!
Dormouse: ...!
Sea Monster: ...
The monster is defeated before Meg can even reach it.
Who could this mysterious new heroine possibly be?

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 6: My Beloved Auguste - Episode 2

The silver-haired monster-pulverizing girl and the lost girl turn out to be one and the same. Meg correctly guesses that such a unique girl must be a member of a certain skyfarer crew. She finally gets to meet (Captain) and reunites with Anila. Albert shows up too, but Meg isn't fazed in the least at seeing the man she once considered Prince Charming—proving how much she's changed.

Meg: That happened so fast... How did you...
???: Gotta take out rampaging monsters before they can do any damage!
???: Ooh, nice arm. It's so unique!
Mari: Meg!
Meg: Wha... Where'd Vikala go?
Mari: Um, you're talking to her... I'm pretty sure that's her...
Mari points to the silver-haired girl.
???: Mm-hm, Vikala here!
Meg: What the... Your hair color changed too...
Vikala: Hahah! It'd really make my day if you called me Vicky!
Meg & Mari: ...
Meg: (This is no normal girl... Which can only mean... No, don't tell me...)
???: Geez, Vikala! What were you up to this whole time?
Vikala: There you are, everyone! Did you get lost? You should really watch where you're going.
???: Took the words right out of my mouth...
???: We came as soon as we heard there were monsters, but it looks like you beat us to the punch.
Meg: (I knew it. It's them...)
Vikala introduces Meg and Mari to the crew.
Lyria: So you two looked after Vikala when she lost her way?
Vikala: I-I was getting really anxious, so I'm glad they showed up...
Meg: Oh, it was nothing really. (Her hair's black again...)
Vyrn: Sorry for the trouble. We owe you one. Right, (Captain)?
  1. Thanks a ton.
  2. Appreciate the help.

Choose: Thanks a ton.
Choose: Appreciate the help.
Meg: And you are?
Gran is the Main Character

Vyrn: This here's our captain. And my best buddy!
Djeeta is the Main Character

Vyrn: This here's our captain. And my best buddy!
Meg: Ah... So you run this crew.
Anila: Well, if it isn't Meggie. It's been a while.
Meg: Anila! You remember me?
Anila: Of course I do. You've changed quite a bit, but I'd recognize that glimmer in your eyes anywhere.
Anila: Your transformation tells me you've found a spark within yourself and worked really hard to get to where you are.
Meg: I have a long way to go before I reach your level, Anila...
Mari, who is clinging to Meg's arm, begins to feel a bit bored until an old flame enters the scene.
Helnar: Well, if it isn't Mari. Great seeing you again. And isn't that... Meg?
Mari: Wow, Helnar. How long has it been?
Helnar: You've been in my thoughts ever since we got separated that summer.
Mari: Yeah, that happened, didn't it. I see you haven't changed much.
Helnar: What do you say to taking back that summer, just the two of us?
Mari: No thanks. I have things to do.
Helnar: Haha. You have your priorities, I see. I'm sad to hear it, but I can respect that.
Jin: (Captain)! Kaz has shared some watermelon with us!
Meg: T-tighty-whities....
Meg: Ahem... Thank you for saving me that one time.
Jin: I saved you? How I wish I could remember the act...
Meg: You pulled me from the water when a rising sunfish rammed into me. Thank you for not letting me drown.
Jin: Ah yes, I remember now!
Jin: You are most welcome. But I only did what was natural.
Ferry: Hey, everyone. What's all the excitement here—
Meg: Ferry!
Meg: I've wanted to apologize to you for the longest time!
Ferry: Um, I think I've seen you somewhere before. Where was it...
Meg: It's me, Meg! You rescued me from a crab one night!
Ferry: Meg? Oh, now I remember! You look so different though...
Meg: I blacked out when you said you were a ghost, and I never got the chance to apologize. What a rude thing I did after you helped me...
Ferry: No, it's okay. Even I'd be afraid if someone suddenly told me they were a ghost.
Ferry: If anything, I should be the one to apologize. I had to leave the next day, and I just left you there without explaining anything.
Meg: Oh, please don't worry about it. It was all my fault.
Meg: When Sierokarte explained everything to me the next morning, I knew I had to find you one day and apologize in person.
Though Meg was formally introduced to the crew only moments ago, they are already talking fondly about past encounters.
Vyrn: Hold on a sec! How do you two ladies already know everyone except us? And you're even buds with Siero?
Lyria: Yeah, it's no fair! We want to get to know you too! You tell them, (Captain)!
  1. Wanna hang out with us?
  2. We wanna hear more.

Choose: Wanna hang out with us?
Meg: Huh? But we wouldn't want to barge in on your crew vacation...
Vyrn: Not a problem! You helped out Vikala, and we wanna hear more about you!
Vikala: Y-yes... Please join us...
Lyria: Teehee... We want to be friends with you too!

Choose: We wanna hear more.
Vyrn: Yeah! Tell us how you already know everyone! You've got me curious.
Anila: Haha. Usually it's the captain who's introducing new friends to us. We can't miss a rare chance to turn the tables.
Lyria: Ngh... I want to be friends with Meg and Mari too!
Continue 1
Anila: Well? What do you say, Meg?
Meg: Ah, right... We'd be more than glad to! Right, Mari?
Mari: Sure. I'm with you all the way, Meg!
Albert: Whoa, there's a lot of people here.
Mari: ...!
Meg: Ah...
Lyria: Welcome back, Albert. We were just talking to Meg and Mari here.
Albert: I've met her before. During the electric eal incident, I believe.
Mari: Er... Hello again...
Vyrn: Wow, they even know Albert...
Albert: I'm pleased to see you're doing well. I don't recall your friend though. Was she with you that time?
When Albert turns to Meg, Mari decides to speak up.
Mari: Erm... You see, she's actually the girl you—
With a soft smile and shake of the head, Meg gently tugs on Mari's arm to get her to stop.
Meg: Nice to meet you. I appreciate you helping my friend that time. I'm Meg.
Albert: I didn't do much. I'm just relieved everything turned out okay after that.
Mari: Psst, Meg... Why?
Mari: If we get him to remember everything, you can ride off into the sunset with your Prince Charming...
Meg: It's all right, Mari. It's great seeing Albert again, but I've since moved on.
Meg: Besides, didn't I tell you I'd no longer be waiting for my Prince Charming?
Meg: Hm, I've changed a bit, haven't I... Let's keep this between us, Mari.
Mari: Meg... (You've changed more than a bit...)

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 6: My Beloved Auguste - Episode 3

While chatting away with the crew at Sierokarte's beach house, Meg keeps looking into the distance waiting for some major threat to appear. But seeing how relaxed the crew is, she quickly forgets her worries and enjoys fun and games on the beach with (Captain) and company.

Sierokarte: Hello, everyone. I see you've met Meg.
Vyrn: You shoulda told us about her sooner, Knickknack. We just found out you had so many chances to introduce us to her.
Lyria: Yeah! I wish I knew Meg earlier!
Sierokarte: Teehee. That was the plan all along actually, but Meg—
Meg: It was me who kept my distance... You guys had so much personality that it made me feel inferior...
Lyria: Personality?
Vyrn: I guess so. We've got all sorts of people in the crew, but you don't exactly pale in comparison, Meg.
Meg: Other than the fact that my arm can now go into shark-mode, I've always been a plain Jane...
Vyrn: (What's it mean to be plain anyway?)
Anila and Vikala are watching the others from a distance.
Anila: She's a lot like you, y'know.
Vikala: I... I only wish I could speak as confidently and clearly as her...
Anila: Haha. It's all about your frame of mind, sweetheart. Find the confidence within yourself, not in your rat ears.
Vikala: I can't... The beach is a natural habitat for Yangtopians. So it's best I stay out of sight...
Anila: Very well then... You have your rat ears for when needs must. Come to think of it, you tend to disappear during the meetings of the Twelve Divine Generals as well.
Anila: Oh, how I wish I had more time to frolic with you.
Anila puts Vikala's rat-ear headband on her.
Meg: ...
Lyria: Meg, you keep looking outside. Is there something out there?
Meg: Ah, sorry. It's just that I don't know what might show up, and...
Vyrn: Are you expecting something to show up?
Meg: I'm not positive, but there's definitely been a pattern...
Lyria: What do you mean?
Meg: What I've been noticing lately is that summer threats come to Auguste in two waves.
Meg: A month has passed since the deepflight oysters surfaced, so the next threat should be rearing its head very soon.
Lyria: Hm, you really think so?
Vyrn: You sure you're not overthinking it? Let's not forget Auguste is a resort.
Meg: Eh... (Look who's talking!)
Sierokarte: Can you give us an example of a possible threat?
Meg: W-well, let's suppose there's an ancient fish called, um—gee, what's a good name—a matterel that starts rampaging for whatever reason...
Sierokarte: Matterel? Hm, don't think I've ever heard of that one.
Meg: Oh...
Sierokarte: But you do bring up a fair point, Meg. I'll be on the lookout too.
Vikala: Hey, guys! I know you're having a fun time chatting, but what do you say we go for round two of our summer games?
Meg: Vikala... (How does she dye her hair so fast?)
Lyria: Sounds good to me! Can we try a game using a beach ball?
Vikala: I don't see why not, Lyria! Leave it to me to turn the seas of Auguste into a Seatopia!
Lyria: C'mon, Meg, Mari!
Mari: Sure! You up for this, Meg?
Meg: Um, okay...
While remaining vigilant about whatever menace may be waiting to strike, Meg follows the others to the beach.

My Beloved Auguste - Chapter 6: My Beloved Auguste - Episode 4

Meg gets back on the alert once more and hears townspeople cry out for help. Meg takes out a feeble monster and breaks up a petty street fight, dismayed with the anticlimactic end to her summer vacation. Siero comes by with info about a man with a shark for an arm and another man with sharks for both legs.

Meg: Wham!
Meg smacks the ball into a perfect arc, sending it flying toward Lyria.
Lyria: Haah!
Ferry: I got this!
Vikala: Color me impressed! Let's see how you girls handle this next one!
Vikala: Hngh!
Vikala performs a graceful jackknife, kicking the ball before she lands.
Anila: Ooh! Nice one, Vikala!
Ferry: Yowie! I don't think I can take this one...
Vyrn: Welp, there it goes!
A shadow slides under the ball before it hits the ground.
Ursula: Sharrrk!
Lyria: Wow! You did it, Ursula! That was an amazing save!
Meg: Ahaha! Way to go, Ursula.
Wait...
Meg: Why are we playing around like everything's okay!
Vyrn: Huh? What's wrong with having a bit of fun?
Meg: That's not it... I mean this was the goal all along, but...
Meg: Erm, I guess it's okay then? Oh, now I'm all confused...
Mari: Calm down, Meg. Everything's going to be okay. Nothing bad will happen.
Meg: That would be for the best. But I'm here, and...
Vikala: Hm? How does that change anything?
Meg: Because things happen when I'm in Auguste! It's like I'm jinxed...
Vyrn: Haha, that's a good one, Meg! You sure it's not just butterflies in your stomach?
Meg: I'm serious... This is no joke.
Vyrn & Lyria: ...
Anila: Hm... Well, I suppose it doesn't hurt to be cautious, but—
As luck would have it, something unexpected happens.
Townsperson 1: Eeeep!
Meg: Just as I thought... I'm going!
Vyrn: Wait up!
Townsperson 1: Eeeep!
Monster: ...!
Meg: Hraagh!
Monster: ...
Townsperson 1: Wow... Hey, isn't that you, Meg? Thank you so much! I'm lucky you were here!
Meg: Are there any others?
Townsperson 1: Er... As far as I can tell, that was the only one...
Meg: I see...
Townsperson 2: Eyaaagh!
Meg: It came from that way!
Townsperson 2: A fight's broken out!
Playboy: The hell is your problem! No one bumps into me and gets to just walk off!
Meg: Hi-yaah!
Playboy: Urk!
Townsperson 2: That was amazing! Oh, it's you, Meg! You're just as cool as you were last year!
Meg: Um, thanks...
Anila: My, my, aren't you versatile. And you leave quite an impression on people too.
Ferry: You've gotten so much stronger, Meg.
Meg: These small fry are nothing. There's gotta be something bigger!
But as time passes, it seems increasingly likely that Meg's desire for a greater challenge will go unfulfilled.
Vyrn: Guys, we should start heading back soon! Our next assignment could be waitin' for us!
Anila: Oh, is it time already? What a shame...
Lyria: We had so much fun this summer too!
Ferry: Let's come back again next year. There's still plenty of islands we haven't been to yet.
Meg: But...
As Meg stares blankly at the crew, who are preparing to return, a distant voice calls out.
Sierokarte: Big news, everyone!
Lyria: Did something happen?
Vyrn: Uh-oh...
Meg: What is it! Tell me!
Sierokarte: Since Meg seemed really worried, I asked around to see if anything was afoot in Auguste.
Sierokarte: And there was mention of something I think you should know.
All Three: What's that?
Sierokarte: On Yudhisthira Island and Benthic Island...
Sierokarte: One man was spotted with a shark for his right arm, and another had sharks for both legs.
Vyrn: What the!
Lyria: That sounds like...
Meg: Sounds like me!
The news that Sierokarte brings proves to be a shock for the crew.
What could possibly be in store for them?

My Beloved Auguste - Ending

Convinced that the two men who possess Meg's ability to merge with sharks are this year's menace to Auguste, Meg is disappointed to learn they've already left the isles—thus this summer has passed without incident. Though at first troubled that she did little more than muck around this summer, she quickly realizes this is precisely the type of vacation she's always wanted as a child.

Just as the crew, contented with a carefree summer vacation, are about to head back to their airship, worrisome news reaches their ears.
Meg finds it especially concerning.
Vyrn: One guy with a shark for his right arm, and another with sharks for both legs?
Sierokarte: I did a double take myself. I didn't think there'd be anyone other than Meg with such characteristics.
Meg: I knew it... My enemies have come out of the woodwork!
Lyria: M-Meg?
Meg: Hm, they must've tamed their sharks the same way I did.
Meg: So where are they running riot? Tell me, Siero!
Sierokarte: Well, they haven't exactly done anything wrong. In fact, they were on vacation just like you and have already left.
Meg: Huh?
Sierokarte: Given their similarities to you, Meg, I thought you might want to know. But that's pretty much it.
Vyrn: I guess there's nothin' to be worried about then.
Sierokarte: Mm-hm, they had a great time in Auguste.
Meg: Umm...
Lyria: Ahaha, that's a relief.
Vyrn: It was nice being able to take it easy after that eating contest.
Ferry: Yeah, what a relaxing vacation this has been.
Anila: Agreed. It's exactly what I needed to rest my weary bones.
Vikala: (Aw, just when I was finally getting used to the beach, now we have to leave...)
Meg: Wait. Are we really done here?
  1. Something bothering you?
  2. Yep. Kudos to you for keeping the peace.

Choose: Something bothering you?
Meg: It's just that I dedicated myself entirely to training for something big happening in Auguste...
Meg: I thought something along the lines of an epic showdown with those two shark wielders might be in the cards...
Vyrn: That's quite the imagination you have...
Vyrn: Thing is Auguste's safe thanks to your efforts, Meg.
Meg: My efforts? How so?
Lyria: You took out a monster and stopped a fight between beachgoers before it got out of hand.
Meg: Hrm, I suppose you could say that...

Choose: Yep. Kudos to you for keeping the peace.
Meg: Me? But I didn't do anything.
Vyrn: Sure you did. You beat up that monster and stopped a fight between beachgoers before it got out of hand.
Meg: Hrm, I suppose you could say that...
Continue 1
Lyria: Yeah, you should be proud of yourself!
Meg: But sipping Blue Auguste with everyone at the beach house...
Meg: And knocking a beach ball around...
Meg: ...
Meg: Oh my gosh!
Vyrn: Huh? What happened now?
Meg: I just realized this might be the first proper vacation I've had in Auguste!
Mari: ...
Meg: I-I can't believe it... This is all I've ever wanted growing up!
Vyrn: Yep, Auguste's the place to be. I'm not sure why it'd be otherwise...
Meg: Am I making any sense, Mari? The time we spent with the crew today... Would you call it a vacation?
Mari: I sure would, Meg. Congrats on making a dream come true!
Meg: Yeah!
(Captain) and company scratch their heads in bemusement, curious as to why Meg is so moved to tears.
Vyrn: Auguste is the place to go for vacationing after all...
Lyria: Whatever the case...
Lyria: I'm just glad to see Meg and Mari so happy.
After spending the past few summers fraught with trauma, Meg was on the verge of loathing something she admired so much as a child.
But fortunately, her willingness and determination to push past all adversity won her a vacation that she'll hold near and dear for life.
Meg: Meg here! Just an ordinary girl you'll find anywhere!
Meg: Fortunately today was an extra-extraordinary day.
Meg: Because I finally got to have the vacation of my childhood dreams!
Auguste will always be there. Another month, another season, another year—no matter how much time passes...
It will always hold a special place in someone's heart as...
The End
